Abstract:
The project had two intended goals. One was to create a prototype for the proxy component of the Secure Webservice Platform system that can function on the GNU/Linux operating system. The other goal was to evaluate a number of different SOAP security methods in order to determine if any could function as a alternative to the Specifikation för Säker Elektronisk Kommunikation (SSEK) standard. In order to achieve the second goal, an evaluation was performed on the SOAP security methods Transport Layer Security, XML Signature, XML Encryption, Web Service Security, and Web Service Secure Conversation using a set of predefined criteria. In order to be able to evaluate if any of the methods could function as an alternative to SSEK, an evaluation of SSEK using the predefined criteria was also performed. In order to achieve the first goal, a prototype was constructed and SSEK security was implemented using a combination of node.js, libxmljs and xmlsec. The conclusions drawn from the results obtained is that none of the evaluated methods could work as an alternative to SSEK security, although some could come close when combined with others. It was also concluded that while node.js could be used to construct a prototype, due to the limited amount of support for SOAP web service standards provided by node.js as well as the amount of adjustments that needed to be done on libxmljs in order to implement the security, careful consideration should be taken before selecting node.js as a platform for similar projects.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis uses the concept of pleasure as it has been applied to cultural artefacts in order to give a description of various characteristics of the soap opera genre. The concept of pleasure is applied to soap opera narrative, characters, visual style and viewing attitudes. Three soap operas, The Young and the Restless, General Hospital, and Another World, are described in detail according to these various types of pleasures. The Young and the Restless is a soap that relies largely on visual pleasures and melodrama. General Hospital's strongest pleasures are related to its character development and use of humour. Another World, the most traditional of the three soaps, is best at stimulating the pleasures associated with talk. Through analysis of viewer commentary supplied by letters sent to Soap Opera Weekly and Soap Opera Update and Nielsen ratings, it can be concluded that the pleasures that most soap opera viewers seem to value the most are related to visual style, romance and a delicate balance between realistic characters and fantasy in narrative.

Shabalina, Evgenia. "Deformations and instabilities of soap films." Thesis, Rennes 1, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019REN1S035/document.

Abstract:
Liquid foams under shearing exhibit a large effective viscosity, and the understanding of the local origin of the dissipation occurring during deformation is unknown. In the aim to contribute to this important open problem, we tried to describe the behavior of a few connected films under deformation. We created a setup allowing to make an elementary foam sample and to modify each film size by controlling the shape of the deformable frame supporting the films. This original setup together with a combination of optical devices allowed us to reveal processes happening in the film, and especially the competition between film stretch or compression, and extraction of a new film from the menisci connecting the films. Importantly, we show that this dynamical competition in a given film is affected by the deformation of its first and even second neighbors. The unique geometry of the setup gave us the opportunity to discover and describe for the first time a gravitational instability which takes place when a thicker film is on top of a thinner one. We measured the wavelength and compared it to theoretical predictions in the linear regime. These different flows affect the thickness distribution, and may thus play an important role in the viscosity or in the stability of 3D foams. As a perspective, the designed setup could prove to be useful as a liquid film rheometer

Abstract:
Soaps operas, or daytime serials, have long been a staple of American culture. In April 2011, ABC-Disney announced the cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Live. Cancellations propelled the fans of these programs to launch efforts to save not only the shows, but the genre. Through the use of social media, websites, and traditional off-line activities that included calling and letter-writing, fans strived to make their voices heard. The study examines the creation of an online community and discourse through a textual-analysis case study of blogs on two fan activist websites. Dahlberg?s criteria for presence in an online public space and Habermas? public sphere allows for the presentation of ideas within a group to encourage a sense of democracy in a grassroots effort to be heard against corporate interests. The case study will examine a fan website, Sudz.Tv, as a group organized in a virtual public space.

Abstract:
It is desirable that SOAP performs efficiently in environments where there are a large number of transactions. However, SOAP is based on XML and therefore inherits XML's disadvantage of having voluminous messages. Firstly, the performance of different SOAP bindings is investigated. A benchmark of different SOAP bindings in wireless environments demonstrates the unsuitability of HTTP and TCP bindings in limited bandwidth environments. UDP is recommended as an alternative transport protocol for SOAP. Secondly, the thesis examines the use of multicast in reducing the traffic caused by SOAP messages in low bandwidth environments to deal with challenges described. A novel SOAP-level multicast protocol based on the similarity of SOAP messages, called SMP (Similarity-based SOAP Multicast Protocol), is proposed. In particular, issues of traffic, network optimization, response time and scalability are investigated. Lastly, two extensions of SMP are proposed to further improve the performance of SMP. SMP's extensions are two algorithms, greedy and incremental tc-SMP, for traffic-constrained similarity-based SOAP multicast. Tc-SMP optimizes network traffic by building its own spanning trees instead of using the one built by traditional methods, such as Dijkstra's algorithm. A new client is added to a tc-SMP tree through an existing tc-SMP node that causes minimal additional traffic for that connection. Detailed analytical models and experimental evaluations of the proposed methods demonstrate that combining SOAP messages of similar content and multicasting them as aggregated messages can significantly lower total network traffic. These improvements are advantageous for Web service applications that involve a high number of simultaneous similar transactions such as stock quotes, weather and sport event reports.

Abstract:
The main subject is equilibrium properties of 2D and 3D dry soap-like foams. For 2D foams at equilibrium, a star-triangle equivalence is proved using geometrical methods and invariance by inversion transformations. This equivalence states that triangular bubbles can be freely exchanged with threefold stars without perturbing the overall equilibrium; a star is a set of three edges ending at a central vertex. The main implication of the star-triangle equivalence is that the disappearance of a three-sided bubble during coarsening is a continuous topological process [1]. Using Moukarzel's duality, the star-triangle equivalence is extended to general 2D foams where the films have different line tensions. Then, as a corollary, the equivalence implies the so called vertex ``decoration'' theorem for foams with a little liquid [1]. The star-triangle equivalence is also proved for 3D foams provided the films are spherical-caps. Considering an equilibrated foam in contact with a solid, curved and smooth, surface and considering the trace of the films on the surface as a non-conventional 2D foam, the equilibrium equations are established for this 2D foam, generalising the standard case of flat Hele-Shaw cells [2]. The invariance of the vertex equilibrium conditions by conformal transformations is proved. As an application, the configurations of foams in thin interstices between two non parallel plates is analysed in details; we give arguments explaining the resemblance of these patterns with images of Laplace's law lead to an approximate equation relating the plate profile to the conformal map. Solutions are given for the logarithm and power laws in the case of constant pressure. The predictions are compared to available experimental data [3] and to the constant volumes case. [1] M. Abstract:
Modern applications commonly make use of several subsystems, usually a frontend and a backend. The communication link between these subsystems is commonly an API. Different APIs such as REST and SOAP have been around for a long time but with the increasing use of internet, other techniques as GraphQL have been developed to compensate for older techniques. The aim of this thesis is to measure the performance of GraphQL and how it compares to SOAP and REST and how the overhead reduction of GraphQL will affect the performance. The main method used to evaluate the performance differences between GraphQL, REST and SOAP is an experiment. The results show that GraphQL has the worst performance in all test cases. GraphQL has the lowest packet size out of all three APIs when only a few fields are fetched, however the packet size increases rapidly when multiple fields are requested.

Abstract:
To identify key issues concerning the use of Swedish Radio’s podcasts as a vehicle for social marketing to promote integration, a thematic analysis was conducted on podcasts published by the Kurdish department of Swedish Radio (SR) during one week. From a total of 37 published podcasts which were analyzed during the chosen time frame, three central themes were identified: (a) crime and criminality, (b) incidents and events related to different municipalities and at state level in Sweden at the time, and (c) issues related to refugees and immigration in Sweden. Each of these central themes comprised sub-themes, which provided further insights into the type of topics the Kurdish department of SR discussed during the one-week time span. Data from this study suggests that although SR Kurdish has the means to be used as a social marketing tool to promote integration in Sweden, this potential is far from being fully utilized.

Abstract:
Mass produced narratives that have been designed and targeted for predominantly female audiences have been marginalized by dominant culture. Throughout the history of art and English literature, women have been both objectified and misrepresented. All that has been deemed domestic, emotional and of the personal sphere has been declared valueless by patriarchy. The soap opera genre reverses this negative valorization. It is one that perpetuates the feminine tradition of creating communities through words---talk, gossip, testimony. In this work, the American soap opera is discussed as a venue for the exploration of issues that concern women's lives, as a site for the generation of female pleasure, and as the mother of subcultural networks that inform a female community. While the narratives address women's concerns, the soap opera fan magazines and fan clubs celebrate a form that highlights orality, emotion and empathy in a culture that often depreciates them.

Abstract:
Popular feminine narratives, domestic, emotion-based texts through which communities of women have traditionally practiced feminine discourse, have been marginalised by dominant masculine cultures throughout their long history. This continues in the postmodern era, in which the culturally dominant postmodern aesthetic has declared the death of the social, narrative and affect, all intrinsic to the popular feminine narrative. Nevertheless, these narratives persevere in such forms as the daytime television soap opera. Using a reader-oriented model, American soap operas are discussed as a site for the generation of women's pleasure, and as a forum for the raising, sharing and addressing of problems which affect women's lives. Soap opera fan magazines further extend the already social soap opera experience, which celebrates emotion and empathy in a culture which often negates them.

Henderson, Lesley M. "Social issue story lines in British soap opera." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2002. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/6541/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the factors which influenced how social issue story lines were developed in the areas of sexual violence, breast cancer and mental distress in British soap opera in the mid to late 1990's. The soap opera production process was examined by conducting interviews with members of production teams from different programmes. This core study was contextualised by additional interviews with production personnel working in other areas of television (e.g. documentary). Spokespeople from different organisations who consulted on story lines or lobbied around different issues were also interviewed. In total, 64 interviews were conducted. The influence of soap story lines on public understandings of an issue was explored in an audience reception study of sexual violence in Brookside (12 focus groups). The soap opera production study identified a number of factors which influence story line development (socio - cultural positioning of the substantive topic, broadcast hierarchy and commercial imperatives). The comparative study of mental distress identified some cross genre constraints (narrative pace, commercial imperatives) and some genre specific issues (access to people with mental health problems). The audience study revealed that people bring their social knowledge of an issue to their viewing experience. Research participants 'read' the meanings of Brookside's story line in remarkably uniform ways however some participants responded differently to certain elements of the story (rejecting empathy with the 'collusive' mother). The story line was demonstrated to have made a lasting impact on Brookside viewers (in relation to the conflicting emotions of the abused child). There were also identifiable links between the intentions of the production team, the nature of representation and audiences responses.

Brown, L. R. "Woman and telenovelas (soap operas) in northeast Brazil." Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2003. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.597019.

Abstract:
In this dissertation I look at the consumption of one of the most popular forms of entertainment in Latin America: the telenovela. My research is based in Brazil, which has the most successful and most profitable telenovela industry in Latin America. Current research into telenovelas has reached an impasse. It either posits the telenovela as an ideological tool to brainwash the masses, or as a symbolic site at which 'culturally competent' agents negotiate with the text and are involved in the construction of meaning and culture. I argue that this impasse is the result of dependence either on textual analysis or on interviews rather than immersion into a particular context. In order to overcome this, I adopt the technique of ethnographic immersion into the lives of viewers in a particular environment. Moreover, I focus on viewers who have been neglected in the scant account of in-depth work into telenovelas: unemployed women living in low-income neighbourhoods in one of the poorest regions of Brazil, the Northeast. I begin the dissertation with an in-depth description of the women's lives, and I show how the telenovelas are an important form of sociability and pleasure in these lives. Strikingly, the women say that the world of wealth and opportunity portrayed in the telenovelas is like real life. What they find so pleasurable about the programmes is the suffering that the female protagonists have to endure. I investigate this in terms of the Christian glorification of suffering, which I argue is apparent in the women's real lives and in the telenovelas. I connect this cult of suffering to a system of valuation in which women are treated not as whole people but as body parts for others. I then illustrate how the majority of women mobile the telenovelas to overcome this fragmenting system. However, given their conditions of existence this is achieved only at the level of imagination or fantasy. My analysis reveals the gendered ideas and practices that connect the women's real lives to the telenovelas. It also demonstrates how the women use their creative powers to affirm a social world in which they are oppressed.

Under the right conditions, a moving sphere may successfully enter, and leave, a soap bubble without rupturing that bubble. The physics behind this phenomena are not well understood, nor the limiting factors (such as sphere size, speed, etc.). This work, investigating this phenomenon using high speed photography, has produced several results which are presented. First, several distinct regimes, noted while photographing the interactions between the spheres and the bubbles, are classified and discussed. Next a probabilistic examination of the soap bubbles rupture by the moving spheres is presented. Then a conjecture for the limiting sphere sizes and speeds is presented. And finally some interesting phenomena, noted in the course of this investigation, are presented and discussed.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to examine attitudes towards and the practice of cleanliness in the British working classes between 1880 and 1914. This was a period when the quality of cleanliness was highly valued, partly because sanitary reform activity and the emergence of germ theory had established new links between dirt and disease. In the last decades of the nineteenth century a number of other factors began to change the framework within which the idea and practice of cleanliness functioned. New thinking on the causes and cures of poverty provoked unprecedented interest in the working-class home and the mother's role therein, at the same time as improvements in living standards brought about changes in material conditions, and the rapid proliferation of branded and heavily advertised soaps and cleaning products led to the development of a novel and vigorous commercial imagery of cleanliness. The thesis examines cleanliness through three sets of sources: 'authoritative' or 'civilising' sources, such as social surveys and investigations and household advice literature, working- class autobiographies, and soap advertisements. These three sets of sources are juxtaposed, using theoretical insights from the anthropology of consumption and from 'everyday life', to produce a complex analysis both of competing discourses and of the lived experiences of working-class wives and mothers, in particular. A number of central themes emerge, including class stratification, the changing nature of working-class consumption, and women's work. These are explored through such notions as visibility and invisibility, repetition and regularity, maintenance, the idealisation of the working-class mother, and the spatial arrangement of the working-class home. It is argued that soap advertising - a pervasive, diverse and rapidly changing system of imagery - both reflected and distorted ideas of cleanliness originating in other sources, as well as increasingly influencing its material practice. Advertising embraced contradiction, and simultaneously promoted both modernity and tradition.

Bergin, John Philip. "Nature and the Victorian entrepreneur : soap, sunlight and subjectivity." Thesis, University of Hull, 1998. http://hydra.hull.ac.uk/resources/hull:3526.

Full text
Abstract:
At the heart of any philosophical exercise lies an understanding, be it explicated or taken for granted, of Nature. This thesis explores how Nature may have come to be understood as it is in our everyday life in the late twentieth century. The life and work of one Victorian Entrepreneur - William Hesketh Lever, First Viscount Leverhulme of the Western Isles - is explored to reveal a cultural dynamic behind entrepreneurial activity. His personal philosophies, his legacy including Port Sunlight village, the Leverhulme Trust and the product for which he is best known, namely Sunlight Soap, are examined to reveal the extent to which his understanding of Nature impacted on his thought. What he expressed in his philosophy as his thought is questioned and it is suggested that in Leverhulme's life and work can be seen the organising dynamic of subjectivity. Leverhulme, it is suggested, was as subject to this process of organisation as were, and are, the consumers of his products. The symbolism of soap is explored through order, not only in the literal sense of personal and public hygiene but, also, by extension, of order in the wider sense, that of organisation. Thus this thesis extends from the analysis of soap as a product and its marketability through the metaphor of Sunlight, which is taken to stand for an idealized, anthropocentric Nature, an understanding of which underpins the sociology of order upon which much organisation is premised. Soap as an intimate tool of personal organisation, through its contact with the body and with clothing is taken, in Freud's terminology, to be a yardstick of civilization. As a permanent feature of the mass-consumer market it shares the physical intimacies of the body, the domestic economy of the household and, in the wider economy, the technological developments in the saponide industry, the regulation of the governance of the 'environment' as well as impacting on 'popular' culture. As such it is particularly susceptible to analysis through some of the work of Foucault, in particular his work on subjectivity, power/knowledge and technology of the self.

They differ in both context and usage; SOAP is a protocol while REST is architecture. SOAP is a well-developed protocol used in the Web industry and is standardized by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). REST is the outcome of Dr. Roy Thomas Fielding’s 2000 PhD dissertation, “Architectural Styles and the Design of Network-Based Software Architecture.” REST is gaining in popularity due to its simplicity, scalability, and architectural dependence on the World Wide Web. Major software companies, such as Google and Amazon, among others, have started using REST. The main difference between the two methods is SOAP is a tightly coupled system, whereas REST is a loosely coupled system; both have advantages and disadvantages. We built SOAP and REST based Web services that performed the GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE functions on a database. We utilized response time and throughput metrics to compare the performance of these Web services. In comparing the two technologies, we found REST was considerably faster, compared to SOAP, because the response times of REST were better than those of SOAP. As an ancillary outcome, we found building Web services using SOAP was easier, due to considerable tool support, whereas developing Web services using REST was time consuming, as it provides no tool support.

Abstract:
This PhD thesis proposes a possibly new form of theatre therapy, which seeks to elevate concepts of experiential, interactive and applied theatre into the world of soap opera. It all began almost four years ago, when I was going through a rather emotionally challenging period in my life. I did not know how to deal with the situation I was involved in. Desperation resulted in escapism, and I turned to the comfort of my favourite daytime soap opera, The Bold And The Beautiful, which I have been faithfully following for the past eight years. Watching the characters suffering their fair share of tragedy and emotional strife seemed to be rather assuring for me. Amidst all that glamour, boldness and beauty, these characters were constantly besieged by endless problems. One particularly storyline drew my attention. It concerned Taylor Hayes, Ridge Forrester, and Brooke Logan: the ‘eternal love triangle’ that began almost as long as the soap has been running. Taylor returned to Los Angeles, after suffering amnesia from an aeroplane cash, and revealed herself to Ridge and Brooke, who both thought she died. Ridge then had to make the biggest decision of his life: to stay with Brooke, whom he had moved on with, or to return to his ‘back-from-the-dead’ wife, Taylor. When Ridge finally decided to divorce Taylor for Brooke, Taylor was totally heart-broken. Yet, she found the inner strength to move on with her life. It was then that I said to myself, “I can do that.” Since that day, Taylor became my alter ego. identified with her, and her predicament. Using this identification to my advantage, I followed her ‘footsteps’ and emerged from my own emotional tribulation. Yet there was an unquenchable thirst within me that remained unfulfilled. I wanted to share my personal encounter with Taylor. I wanted her to know what I went through, and to let her know that she was not alone. In fact, I wanted her to know that it was she who helped me pull through my personal issue. By watching what Ridge and Brooke put her through, and what she did to help herself out of that situation, it provided answers to my problem. I saw what was depicted, I accepted it, and derived a sense of catharsis through it. It was then that I asked myself: “Just how many soap opera viewers have identified with characters through the years, and have wished to be given the chance to share their real life problems with these characters with whom they identify?” The prospect of giving these viewers the opportunity to share their personal experiences, and to incorporate these experiences into the script of the soap characters, seemed incredibly exciting. Thus, the concept of “Interactive Replay Soap” was born. This PhD thesis guides you on a journey of exploration of this original concept, starting with a brief introduction of applied and interactive forms of theatre, which involves the process of ‘active reviewing’. This is discussed in Chapters 1 and 2 (Personal Stories, Drama and Theatre, and Active Reviewing; Applied and Interactive Theatre). Chapter 3 (Daytime Soap Operas) establishes existing theoretical frameworks which surround the genre of daytime soap operas. Having established that there is such a distinctive genre, I then present a popular American daytime soap opera as a case study in Chapter 4 (A Case Study of ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’), in support of the theories raised in Chapter 3. This is followed closely by Chapter 5 (The First Interactive Replay Soap Opera: ‘Search For Tomorrow’), whereby I introduce a soap opera which I have created. This would be the soap opera that would act as the springboard for the process of Interactive Replay Soap. In Chapter 6 (Viewer Identification and Involvement with Daytime Soap Opera), I attempt to study the parasocial interaction viewers of soap operas have with their alter egos in the soap operas they watch, and to locate and recognise processes of identification these viewers have for their alter egos. I also explore the emotional and psychological connection between viewers and the characters of the soap opera. These theories are measured closely with the statistical data which I have consolidated through an Internet survey on soap opera viewership identification and involvement. This is discussed in detail in Chapter 7 (Internet Survey Analysis). It is in this chapter that I will also explore the possibility for these survey participants to reflect, and to investigate, their real life issues and problems, from which these various identifications stem from. I also studied the level of desire of these viewers to ‘enter into’ the world of soap operas, and to share these same issues and problems with the characters with whom they identify with. In Chapter 8 (The Interactive Replay Soap Process), I seek to present next major step for these viewers to embark on: that is to have the viewers’ real-life issues, problems and experiences incorporated within the performance script of their alter egos. These soap opera characters, thus, ‘replay’ or re-enact these experiences, through the structure and nature of the soap opera. It is, at this stage, that careful guidance, facilitation and direction be conducted to ensure that these viewers, or participants, achieve therapeutic advantages from the process. The praxis of this thesis surrounded the production of possibly the world’s first Interactive Replay Soap (opera), Search For Tomorrow, which ran over a course of eight episodes. This soap opera not only retained elements of the genre, it also paved the way for viewers to establish forms of identification, as well as permitted the interactive nature of allowing the viewers to have their real stories incorporated within their alter ego’s performance script. This experiment attracted four participants from the audience, who contributed major personal stories for five of the eight episodes. The participants achieved immense pleasure as an audience member, impressive knowledge of theatre production as a contributor, and most importantly, generous therapeutic value as an Interactive Replay Soap participant. These feelings and thoughts are described in Chapter 9 (Feedback and Future of Interactive Replay Soap). It is also in this chapter that I discuss the possibility of Interactive Replay Soap occurring within a talk-show framework, thus edging it onto the platform of existing interactive media.

Humberstone, Nicola. "Older people, sexualities and soap operas : representations of lesbian, gay, bisexual sexualities and transgender identity in television soap operas, and older audiences' responses." Thesis, Middlesex University, 2010. http://eprints.mdx.ac.uk/6517/.

Abstract:
The thesis investigates the responses of older audiences to representations of lesbian, gay, and bisexual sexualities and transgender identities in British prime time television soap operas between1986 and 2002. It combines cultural research, in relation to theories of soap opera and audience engagement and social research into the responses and views of older audiences to such representations and the life experiences of the participants which inform their views. The thesis recognises that the voices of older people are underrepresented in socio-cultural research, especially when investigating sexuality. Soap opera constitutes a genre which functions as a vehicle for social issues, including sexualities. Soap operas draw large audiences across generations and gender; they have high profile publicity and intertextual material to engage viewers' interests, and broadly accessible scheduling. They therefore provide an accessible means of engagement with these issues with older people. Chapter 1 outlines the social context of the research and reviews selected discourses and research, noting that much recent research is directed to issues of care and therefore tends to address the needs and preferences of older people rather than their active engagement with, and potential contribution, to popular culture and issues of sexualities and gender identity. Chapter 2 identifies and evaluates cultural theories and issues around textual analysis. The relevance and validity of these general themes are examined in Chapter 3 by means of 'close readings' of two selected episodes with relevant narratives and representations through textual analysis and in relation to everyday social interaction. Chapter 4 addresses the epistemological issues involved in combining cultural research into the meanings and significance of these representations and narratives with social research into the meanings, associations and value derived from them by older audiences. The methodological framework for social research and the qualitative research methods are discussed and evaluated. The research focuses upon five groups of older people, two from an Inner London Drop- in Centre and an Outer London Day Centre and three from Campaign groups who identify as members of a London based Older Lesbian Group, Older Gay Men's Group and Male to Female Transgender Group. More self-conscious readings of the narratives and representations could be expected from groups with a campaigning history or trans-gender identity than the other two groups. Differences and commonalities between and within groups are noted and analysed in Chapter 5 and the analysis of the data is structured by the theories and themes identified and demonstrated in Chapters 2 and 3. The thesis supports and develops recent research which recognises that older people are diverse and demonstrate strong opinions. It also shows that as television audiences and in conversation older people actively engage with issues of non-normative sexualities which are too frequently regarded as peripheral for older people, if not taboo. This could usefully be further investigated.

Be to, jų kūrimo metodas remiasi gerai žinomomis ir senai žiniatinklyje nusistovėjusiomis koncepcijomis.
One of the most known web service technologies today – SOAP Web services, is fairly complicated and inefficient. Other SOAP Web service alternatives become more and more popular. One of these alternatives is REST style architecture application in web service implementations. This type of web services is much simpler and efficient than SOAP Web services. Furthermore, it is based on well-established web concepts. This work describes analysis and implementation of REST style architecture in created multi-user position tracking system. Document provides detailed description of implemented position tracking system possibilities, structure and implementation peculiarity. Finally, experimental proof is given about SOAP and REST service implementations efficiency in this system.

Web Services is one of the latest golden concepts that promise flexibility and unlimited potential for interconnection between systems of the same or different type. The communication is based on SOAP ? Simple Object Access Protocol, which is founded on XML (eXtended Markup Language). We have made experiments with SOAP in a Web Service Environment to find out the performance in response time using SOAP compared to CORBA. Unsurprisingly CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) is significantly faster but with the improvements that we implemented and an intelligent choice of XML parser the response times for SOAP was drastically lowered.

Abstract: Network management is formed by five functional areas: Failure, Configuration, Accounting, Performance and Security. The configuration area is responsible for the network¿s operation and maintenance, following the configuration changes done in each network¿s device. The main management tools available, CLI and SNMP, do not take care of the configuration requirements of current networks. New Web technologies are becoming widespread in network management, with prominence of XML language and HTTP protocol. A new protocol of configuration management named NETCONF has been defined, in the scope of the IETF, in order to apply these new technologies for configuration of networks. This work studies the NETCONF protocol aiming to highlight its advantages and limitations. This work also proposes an architecture of implementation for the NETCONF based on the transport protocol SOAP over HTTP, or HTTPs. Aiming to validate such architecture, we present the implementation of a prototype fully adherent to the NETCONF proposal, for which it has specified a model of data for configuration of VLANs of switches from different manufacturers

Abstract:
In traditional research approaches, soap opera viewing has been studied quantitatively. Such studies ignore the subjectivities, the sociocultural contexts, and life contexts of individual viewers. To account for such shortcomings and to offer a qualitative research approach, an investigation was conducted into the engagement that viewers have with a particular soap opera, The bold and the beautiful. The collective case study research method was used. Three subjects were interviewed using in-depth phenomenological interviewing and the data obtained was subjected to.a hermeneutic method of investigation. This involved using a reading guide that extracted firstly, how pleasure is experienced in soap opera viewing, and secondly how the viewers' interpretations of the soap opera are linked to their everyday life contexts. Pleasure was found to be related to experiencing the soap opera world as real, the social context of the viewer, the openness of the text, selecting textual elements, identification and opening up the viewer's world. The viewers' interpretations were related to their life contexts in terms of the meanings that were constructed around emotions, identities, interpersonal relations and a cultural interface. Most notable for the South African context, is that viewing The bold and the beautiful provides a cultural interface because African identities are brought to this practice.

For integration between application-systems in a global context, interoperability needs to be established on a global level; global interoperability, in turn, is based on a global common application-interface. This is achieved through resolving differences in, inter alia, protocol profiles, among participants in the global network. ebXML is used as the point of departure. A messaging framework, which is based on existing Web technology and standards, is proposed. Certain security and Web service standards are examined to determine specific parameters for an interoperable secure messaging environment. A security based framework comprising a predefined message format and architecture is investigated for a secure interoperable global electronic marketspace.

Abstract:
This thesis has set out to explore the "symbolic world" of images of psychological problems and distress in soap operas in terms of their "cultural" definition in the soap opera community, their models causation, and their semiotic and narratives uses in the storylines. A sample of ten soap operas was recorded for a period of nine months in 1990 and it was analysed with a multi-facet methodology which comprised: a content analysis, a thematic analysis, a narrative analysis, and an interpretative analysis. The most common psychological problems in soap operas were: depressive symptoms (32%) dependence on substances and alcohol (15.2%), masked antisocial behaviour (15.3%), psychosis (11.5%), acute depression (10.7%) and suicidal thoughts (6.1%). The quantitative content analysis has not revealed any important "distortions" of social reality apart from the cases of psychosis and "masked" antisocial reactions. For the majority of cases of distress, their causes were sought into the personal and familial environment while the role of socio-economic factors was played down. The thematic analysis examined the cultural discourses that were not to articulate images of psychological problems in soap operas. A binary methodology of oppositional structures was utilised in order to model the dramatic tensions and decision dilemmas of soap opera characters. The most common cultural discourses which framed discussions about human distress were: women's vision of family life, teenage rebellion, adult deviance, morality, destiny, and neighbourliness. Portrayals of acute depression, for instance, highlighted the role of the community in providing support during personal crises while depressive symptoms pointed out the functional role of women's skills in detecting distress and seeking support. On the other hand, images of psychosis and antisocial reaction were articulated within the discourses of deviance and rule-braking behaviour. Narrative uses of distress, such as presenting false impressions of suicide, using distress as a cliff-hanger device, and giving rise to side-effects and follow-up stories, exemplified the complicated ways in which soap operas treated psychological problems.

Abstract:
This study examines two television soap operas and their consumption by a select group of teenagers. The soap operas in question, Neighbours and Home and Away, are produced in Australia and watched by large audiences in the UK. The study's broadest aim is to discover the nature of the relationship between the programmes and their teenage viewers. In order to meet this aim, the study combines textual analysis and audience research. Following a review of the textual analysis of soap opera, Neighbours and Home and Away are examined in detail as texts. The audience study is then introduced and located. The empirical study involved tape-recording interviews with groups of 13-16 year olds in one Edinburgh High School, and with individual teenagers in their own homes. In total, 50 teenagers were interviewed. The recurring findings of the audience study are analysed in detail. The final two chapters of the thesis contextualize the findings and conclusions of the textual and audience studies. A selective genealogy is provided which theoretically locates Neighbours and Home and Away and their consumption as cultural practices in self-government. It is argued that the two programmes should be understood as integral parts of a broad but specific arena for learning. It is argued that interviewees use Neighbours and Home and Away as cultural resources. They learn how to conduct themselves in intimate and social relationships, and, in particular, learn how to practise and reconstruct their gendered selves. It is argued that the model of analysis elaborated is valuable because: it best explains the specific nature of Neighbours and Home and Away and their consumption; it provides a way of moving beyond something of an orthodoxy in soap opera analysis; and it avoids the binary logic of some recent arguments about popular culture and social change.

Abstract Lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid were purified, then neutralized to arginine soap by arginine. At different temperature, we measure their surface properties, including of krafft point, critical micelle concentration (cmc), surface excess concentration (Γmax), surface efficiency (pCΠ=20), surface effectiveness (Πcmc), and average area per molecule at surface (Amin). The thermodynamic properties of arginine soaps could be calculated from surface tension properties, and little difference was found from sodium soap. The solubility of arginine soaps was more solube then sodium soaps. Besides, we chose some commercial surfactants and measureing the surface activity, wetting, foaming, and lime soap dispersion properties. In this study, the surface activity of commercial surfactants were better than pure surfactant.

Environmental consciousness is pay great attention in recent years. In the detergent section, soap is make from oils and fats, that is more in line with Green Environmental Protection than synthesis detergent. But hard water soap scum is a common problem encountered in homes. Lime soap is a natural consequence of the interaction of the calcium and mineral ions in hard water and the soap chemicals. And traditional soap is usually are solid, for some peoples that used to liquid detergent, it's not convenient. In the experiment, we neutralize alkaline solution and certain ratio lauric acid, Myristic acid and palmitic acid to liquid soap in low temperature. Hydrocarbon chain length, temperature and pH will influence the soap solubility, and soap is solid or liquid. We use Lime soap Dispersing power method to find anion-surfactants that can be lime soap dispersant in hard water. And discuss relationship between dispersion power and surfactants structure, we find the hydrophilic group and ethoxylation of surfactants is the key point to determine dispersion power. When we add specific surfactant in liquid soap using in hard water, the Lime soap appear to be well dispersed, it's not aggregation and separate out.

Recently, SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) has become the most popular technique to develop web service application for electronic commerce. SOAP [MSFT01] is a lightweight and simple XML-based protocol that is design to exchange structured and typed information on the web. Unfortunately, current SOAP architecture is lack of mechanism to build high reliable EC system. The purpose of this thesis is to propose a comprehensive fault tolerant framework based on the current SOAP in order to address the system security issure for EC. These concepts of this thesis are based on fault tolerant CORBA, thought there are similarities and differences between these two techniques. This thesis plan to propose a standard recommendation that outlines a set of interfaces named fault-tolerant SOAP. This thesis has implemented a FT-SOAP prototype on Windows XP. According to the evaluative experiment, FT-SOAP could improve the security of current SOAP by increase a little penalty of performance overhead. The result of evaluation proved FT-SOAP actually works and worthy to be used.

Methods: Cross-sectional, observational study after an Ethics Commission authorization. A questionnaire with open and closed questions, applied to Family Physicians and internees working in health centers in Central Portugal, more specifically, in ARS Centro, was used. All physicians in ACES Cova da Beira were inquired. Descriptive analysis was performed using Excel. Results: Response rate of 56,8 %. Only 11,1 % was internees so their results were discharged. A proportion of 38,6 % consider both S and P as important in consultations. In S, majority put the reason presented by the consultant instead the reason that they believe that brings him to the consultation. When inquired about what is prefered, if encoding or annotation in S, they opinion diverges between encoding (48,0%) and both, encoding and annotation (45,9%). Conclusion: To better understand what happened in previous consultations and which one must be logged regarding future legal, ethical and disciplinary problems the physicians of ACES Cova da Beira prefer encoding in P. Doctors consider A and P important to have good clinical records.
