Abstract:
Prefabrication technologies have been used in the building industry since the 19th century. The technologies vary from the innovative materials to novel techniques of construction and the prefabricated systems range from individual components to the entire structure. The major prefabrication technologies prevalent today include sandwich panel walling elements, hollow core slabs, light gauge steel frames as well as modular housing. Even though prefabrication technologies have been widely used in slabs, beams and columns, prefab foundation system is still a relatively new concept. The construction of foundation is the most important part of building process and hence a sound prefabricated foundation system is the need of the hour. In this paper, an attempt has been made for construction of a portable prefabricated reinforced concrete foundation which can be used in buildings up to three storeys.

A lack of knowledge of the history of architecture and town planning in the 19th century resulted in underrated regard towards this historic period and consequently in a devastation of urban and architectural heritage of the 19th century. This research was intended to clarify some segments of the history of architecture and town planning in the 19th century based on the example of Subotica. Research has shown that the basic types of ground floor houses built during the 19th century in Subotica were mutually compatible and that by a simple addition of rooms on the simple base house, more complex base houses could be built. In the same way rural houses could also be transformed into urban ones. This pattern allowed for utmost rationality of the construction of individual houses as well as of the whole town. The town, due to the application of compatible house plans, reflected a semblance of order which improved year on year, because every house at any given moment represented a finished structure. Simple attachment of building parts also allowed the houses that were located in the middle of the lot to be elongated to the street regulation line. Compatible house plans, as an auxiliary means, facilitated the application of building rules, the realization of regulation plans and provided continuous development of the town of Subotica in the period of over 150 years.

AbstractThis article retraces Lisbon's urban evolution, both planned and spontaneous, from the beginning of the Age of Discovery until the first decades of the 19th century. It highlights the 1755 earthquake as a powerful agent of transformation of Lisbon, both of the city's image and architecture and of street life. The article begins by summing up urban policies and urban planning from Manuel I's reign (1495-1521) to João V's (1707-1750); it goes on to depict Lisbon's daily life during the Ancien Regime, focusing on the uses of public and private spaces by common people. The Pombaline plans for the rebuilding of Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake are reappraised, stressing the radically original morphology and functions of the new streets and housing types. The contrast between pre- and post-1755 Lisbon's public spaces is sharp, in both their design and use, and gradually streetscape became increasely regulated in accordance with emergent bourgeois social and urban values. More than a century later, the city's late 19th- and early 20th-century urban development still bore the mark of Pombaline plans, made just after 1755, for the revived Portuguese capital.

So far, 19th-century architecture in any of the three parts of the divided country of Poland has received virtually no attention from Western (and that includes German) architectural or town-planning historians. Lodz was undoubtedly the most important Polish town developed in the 19th century. The rapidity of the growth, especially in the later 19th century, was astonishing even by western European standards; the degree of preservation of late-19th-century industrial buildings-understood to include not only factories, but also workers' dwellings and factory owners' mansions-is considerable. After examining more briefly the early development of the textile colonies, which were supported very much by the State, the article deals in more detail with large industrial buildings erected by the most important entrepreneurs, Scheibler and Poznański. An attempt is made to relate the particular configuration of workers' houses and mansions to the social set-up locally and generally.

The foundation of architectural acoustics as an independent science is generally referred to Sabine’s early studies and their application. Nevertheless, since the 16th Century, a great number of authors wrote essays and treatises on the design of acoustic spaces, with a growing attention to the newborn typology of the Opera house, whose evolution is strongly connected to the cultural background of the Italian peninsula. With roots in the Renaissance rediscovery of Vitruvius’s treatise and his acoustic theory, 16th- to 19th-Century Italian authors tackled several issues concerning the construction of theatres—among them, architectural and structural features, the choice of the materials, the social meanings of performances. Thanks to this literature, the consolidation of this body of knowledge led to a standardisation of the forms of the Italian Opera house throughout the 19th Century. Therefore, the scope of this review paper is to focus on the treatises, essays and publications regarding theatre design, written by pre-Sabinian Italian scholars. The analysis of such literature aims at highlighting the consistencies in some 19th-Century minor Italian Opera houses, in order to understand to what extent this scientific and experimental background was part of the building tradition during the golden age of the Italian Opera.

Abstract:
Zgierz, a town located in the central part of the Łódź Province, has a unique urban complex in the form of a craftsmen’s town built from scratch in the first half of the 19th century. This was a result of a settlement operation carried out in Congress Poland to boost the economy of the newly created state. The settlers were mostly cloth makers of Polish and German descent, primarily from the territory of the Prussian Partition. Regular arrangement, with symmetrical streets and a market square in the middle, on a high river bank, went hand in hand with aesthetic and functional late classical architecture, which is why this centre can be called a Biedermeier town. Even though durable materials were preferred, most houses that have survived are made of wood, and yet decorative elements can still be seen on many of them. Today, the houses, divided into numerous flats and inhabited by qualifying occupiers, are used contrary to their original purpose and inappropriately for their status. So far, two attempts to revitalise the area in question have been made. In consequence, the Town of Weavers Culture Park was established, seven of the houses were renovated, and fragments of two streets were restored to their former appearance. The paper presents the past and present situation of the historic development of the New Town considering its social context, and attempts to summarise the revitalisation activities performed to date.

Research into personal book collections of the NM within the NAKI project (2012–2015), including besides the historical book collection also books from the 19th and 20th centuries, has provided valuable information on the history of the entire book culture. The PROVENIO database is an important source of information and knowledge in terms of book owners and ownership provenance, library history, bibliophilia and the reception by readers, as well as the history of book binding, book publishing houses and book trade of the given period.

This thesis represents the first effort to catalogue extant timber slab houses of 19th century Canberra and its outlying regions. From an archaeological viewpoint, it looks at slab houses as above-ground artefacts that possess ingrained information about the culture that built them and analyses them as material culture through an investigation of their: history, material, construction, function and design. It is inspired by the work of folk historian, Henry Glassie, and focuses on form and pattern, through a comparison of floor plans, in order to understand the needs, minds and behaviours of early Canberrans. The thesis also draws on the historic documentary record of a similar local group of houses, those resumed by the Commonwealth in 1912-13.

This study examines the relation between gender and genre in four novels that chart the development of American domestic life from the Colonial to the Gilded Age. In these novels, the presence in the house of women--mothers, daughters, sisters, servants, slaves--often threatens the fathers' dynastic ambitions and subverts the formal intentions of the narrative. These women represent familiar but strange forces of the uncanny which lurk beneath the apparently placid surface of domestic narrative. In "house" novels by Hawthorne, Stowe, Alcott, and James, interactions of the uncanny feminine with dynastic concerns threaten not only the novel's social message of destiny and dynasty, but the traditional form of the novel itself. In The House of the Seven Gables, Hawthorne constructs a narrative in which patrician fathers and domestic daughters struggle for control of the House and its story. Slavery disrupts domestic life in Uncle Tom's Cabin, inverting and thereby perverting traditional notions of home and family and producing monstrous mothers and failed households. Alcott details the abuses and dangers of reified gender roles in family life, while depicting a young woman's attempt to reconstruct domesticity as a female community in Work. Finally, James displaces domestic concerns entirely from The Other House, portraying instead the violent nature of feminine desire unrestrained by tradition, community, or family. Story and telling work at cross-purposes in these novels, creating a tension between Romantic structures and realistic narrative strategies. These authors depart from the tropes of their times, using gothic devices to reveal monstrous mothers, uncanny children, and failed or fallen houses within the apparently conservative domestic novel. Such gothic devices transcend literary historians' distinctions of romance and sentimental fiction as respectively male and female stories and reveal the fundamentally subversive nature of domestic fiction. For these writers, the uncanny presence of the feminine produces a counternarrative of gender, class, and race, redefines the cultural boundaries of home and family, and exposes the fictive nature of social constructions of gender and domesticity.

Culture and all of its aspects are best reflected in the home environments. Home is not only a house which is a shelter but a place with social, psychological and emotional associations, and manifests in the continous use of a house. Continuity of use in the home environments is both conceptual and physical, and this can be observed in traditional or historical domestic contexts, to which the Ottoman vernacular house is an example. This study introduces the village of MenteSbey and its 19th century vernacular home environments within their socio-cultural context. MenteSbey was once a prominent center for kadis, Ottoman state officials and judges. The profession of kadilik played an important role in the social development of the village that in turn affected the domestic architecture, which can be grouped into two as kadi and standard houses. MenteSbey houses constitute a good example for tracing "

status"
in the Ottoman house as some are still inhabited by the families descending both from the lineage of kadis and other families of the 19th century. Seventeen of these houses are documented with their plans, photographs and inhabitants in the study. This study is also an initial step for the possible cultural, architectural and historical studies in and around MenteSbey in the future, and most of all for preserving MenteSbey and its houses for the coming generations.

Doctoral thesis Evolution of wooden architecture of manor houses in Lithuania (from the middle of 16th century till the middle of 19th century) explore and present an evolution of the wooden architecture of manor houses since the middle of the 16th century till the middle of the 19th century. The thesis investigates the existing and not existing (known from the sources) wooden residential buildings of Lithuanian nobility, identifies their dominant types and reasons, which influenced the change of architecture, and reveals the singularities of the architecture and the relation of a manor’s house with ethnic and professional architecture. The research has shown that the architectural evolution of the manor house owned by nobility of different rank was developing differently. The development of great and middle-class nobility’s manor house was intense, especially influenced by the changes in style architecture. The small noblemen‘s houses were changing a little, their construction followed the ethnic traditions. According to the layout and shape of structures and forms of the buildings set on the manors of great and middle-class nobility, three stages of their architectural evolution were singled out: the period of early formation (till the middle of the 17th century), “baroque” period (from the middle of the 17th century till the seventh decade of the 18th century) and the “classicism” period (from the end of 18th century till the end of the 19th century). Disertacijoje nagrinėjami Lietuvos bajorijos mediniai gyvenamieji pastatai, darbe vadinami ponų namais. Darbo tikslas – išaiškinti ir pateikti Lietuvos bajorų namų medinės architektūros raidą nuo Valakų reformos iki 1861 Valstiečių reformos. Darbe tirti esami bei neišlikę (žinomi dėka šaltinių) mediniai bajorijos namai, nustatyti vyravę pastatų tipai, priežastys, lėmusios tipų kaitą, atskleidžiami architektūros ypatumai, ponų namo santykis su etnine ir profesionaliąja architektūra. Tyrimai parodė, kad skirtingų bajorijos sluoksnių ponų namų architektūros raida vyko skirtingai. Stambių ir vidutinių bajorų namų raida buvo intensyvi, ją ypač veikė stilinės architektūros pokyčiai. Smulkių bajorų namai kito mažai, statyboje laikytasi etninių tradicijų. Abstract:
This paper concerning the regional architectural term known as the Tjust Empire style analyses manor houses built in the Tjust area by the east coast of Småland in the period 1810-1860. The term Tjust Empire style was invented in 1937 by PhD. Manne Hofrén in his dissertation on architecture in Kalmar län in the period 1650-1850. The aim of the paper is firstly to determine whether there is a distinct difference between the regional Tjust Empire style in architecture and the common Swedish empire style or as its Swedish equivalent is known; the Karl Johan style. Secondly, the paper strives to analyse why and how the Empire style became so popular in the area during this period, focusing on architecture as a means to express social identity and status. My disposition is grounded in an ethnological viewpoint on architecture where culture is seen as created by and part of human existence. In order to give my analysis substance two case studies have been done of two manor houses in the area; Casimirsborg and Blekhem, in order to compare these with architecture representative of the Swedish Empire/Karl Johan style. The manor houses have been chosen partly because they represent the architectural style of the period well and partly due to them being accessible. As material concerning the construction of the two buildings, such as plans and sketches is sparse the opportunity to examine and analyse them at the spot has been invaluable. When I have been able to, I have used plans and fire insurance documents available. For a general view of the architecture during the period I have had to rely on material already written concerning the architecture of the time, the patrons, their architects and master builders. This has shown that the Tjust Empire style is in fact very closely tied to the common Swedish Empire or Karl Johan style and that it directly strives to commit to it. I have also been able to show that the the reason for the Tjust Empire style being so popular in the area in the period lies in a unique economic and social situation at the time; as well as, a relationship between the patrons and their favoured architects.

The 19th century was a time when a large number of voluntary associations were being formed both in Sweden and in Europe as a whole. Their ambition was to engage in health care and poor relief issues as well as in the educational system. Furthermore, the general idea was to promote temperance and foster a sense of thrift among the poor and the working class population. While the starting-point of the thesis was the question as to why the voluntary associations founded various charitable activities as well as how the philanthropy was designed, organised and modified throughout the century, the aim has been to elucidate the motive force and incentives for their social reforms. In order to answer the two main questions of the dissertation, the association De Badande Wännerna (the DBW), which engaged in several philanthropic activities in the Swedish province of Gotland as early as the 1810s, has been selected for a case study. In the literature a number of different reasons have been stressed as to why voluntary associations chose to engage in charitable activities. In order to shed light on what factors that underlay their philanthropic work, the process of negotiation regarding the various institutions established by the DBW, as well as the practical layout of the establishments, have been analysed from the perspectives of a theoretical model based on affinity groups. The study has shown that the incentives of philanthropy were complex. Furthermore, the incentives changed concurrently with the expansion of the public poor relief and educational system, which from the middle of the 19th century took over many of the humanitarian efforts hitherto run by the voluntary associations. The result of this development was that the voluntary associations created new spheres of activity. They continued to fulfil important societal functions, but their establishments also fulfilled a more internal desire for pleasure and delights.

La réflexion engagée dans la thèse propose une archéologie des représentations collectives se rapportant à l’espace domestique de l’écrivain et à son œuvre au moyen d’une socio-critique des textes où elles prennent corps. À partir de la notion de « maison-musée », la maison-musée de l’écrivain est considérée comme un lieu réel et comme une structure mentale et matérielle où s’inventent, s’organisent, s’exposent et sont conservées des « images d’écrivain » qui, quoique variées, voire hétérogènes, définissent un imaginaire et une imagerie cohérents de la figure de l’écrivain. Dans la thèse, la dimension discursive de la « paratopie » du lieu d’écriture est mise en perspective avec les approches posturales et scénographiques centrées sur la figure de l’écrivain. Pour ce faire, l’étude postule que l’agencement des objets dans les maisons-musées s’appuie sur ces « scéno-mythographies ». Des dispositifs d’exposition divers les transposeraient par la suite dans l’espace muséal. Partant, la thèse montre que les mises en scène de l’écrivain à demeure constituent un levier essentiel des appropriations mémorielles collectives des écrivains et de leurs œuvres parce qu’elles cristallisent des représentations mythiques à succès qui s’actualisent dans l’esprit du temps. Plus largement, elles participent à l’écriture de l’histoire littéraire qui s’institutionnalise au XIXe siècle : elles mettent l’accent sur certains écrivains, sur une mythologie de la création littéraire et sur des œuvres qui ont vu le jour dans de « hauts-lieux littéraires ». The reflection undertaken in the thesis offers an archaeology of the collective representations relating to the writer’s domestic space and work, by means of a socio-criticism of the texts in which they materialise. From the notion of “house-museum”, the writer’s house-museum is considered a real place, as well as a mental and material structure where « images of the writer » are invented, organised and displayed. Albeit varied, even heterogonous, these images define a coherent imagination and imagery of the writer’s figure. In the thesis, the discursive dimension of the writing place′s “paratopia” is put into perspective with scenographic and postural approaches that are centred on the figure of the writer. To that end, the study predicates that the arrangement of objects in house-museums is based on these ‘‘sceno-mythographies,’’ which are then transposed into the museum space thanks to various display devices. Right from the start, the thesis shows that the writer’s stagings perpetually constitute an essential lever of the writers’ collective memorial appropriations and their works because they crystallise successful mythical representations, which are actualized in the spirit of the age. More broadly, they take part in writing the literary history that is institutionalised in the 19th century: they put the emphasis on certain writers, on a mythology of the literary creation, and on works that came to life in “high literary places.” Finally, the thesis tackles the issues of poetics and reception that link the writers’ houses to their literary work

Le tourisme peut-il être une solution à la préservation du patrimoine palatial privé et de la mémoire des nombreuses générations qui l’ont occupé?Cette thèse propose d’aborder plusieurs domaines, le tourisme, le patrimoine, architecture, la littérature dans le but de comprendre quel peut-être le devenir du patrimoine palatial qui est situé dans des espaces ruraux construits sur un modèle colonial. A partir de plusieurs sources d’information (interviews, observations sur le terrain, guides, journaux, vidéos, média, réseaux sociaux, etc.) et un état des lieux des maisons seigneuriales privées ouvertes au tourisme, nous avons pu essayer d’évaluer l’atout tourisme pour la préservation du patrimoine palatial privé rural ?Nous avons travaillé sur trois régions rurales lusophones (Vale do Paraíba (Brésil), Ponte de Lima (Portugal) et Goa (Inde)) où un nombre significatif, en termes quantitatifs et qualitatifs, de palais se sont construits jusqu’au XIXe siècle. Ils ont connu leurs jours de gloire, puis le temps a effacé leur importance historique dans la mémoire collective nationale. Ils sont pourtant, par leur architecture, leur production agricole, les pratiques de leurs habitants, les témoins directs de notre histoire. Ces palais connaissent de nos jours des difficultés d’entretien, voire même de survie. Il est utile de confronter les trois lieux sélectionnés: ils sont pareillement menacés de disparitions tout en cherchant des solutions très diversifiées dans leur approche d’une conversion dans le tourisme
How can we preserve a threatened heritage? Should we neglect it and lose our memory of national and local history? Can tourism be a solution to preserve architectural private wealth?This thesis explores several fields, such as tourism, heritage, architecture and literature in order to determine what can be the future of architectural wealth in rural areas. Using various sources (interviews, field research, guides, video, media, social networks, etc.), and starting with an overview of the situation, we have arrived at the following question: can tourism be a solution to preserve architectural private wealth?Our study focuses on three Portuguese-speaking regions (Vale do Paraíba – Brazil, Ponte de Lima – Portugal and Goa - India), where many palaces were built until the 19th century. After a period of magnificence, their importance gradually faded in collective memory. They stand as witnesses of our history. Nowadays, it is more and more difficult to maintain these buildings. It is interesting to compare these three areas: their common point is the disappearance of their heritage, but they differ greatly in their tourism policies.The first part of this study describes the architectural heritage in Portuguese-speaking areas, and explains how it grew up and why it is now in danger. The second part analyses solutions offered in terms of rural tourism, and how family memory is thus preserved

Abstract:
Using GIS, this study creates a predictive model of a distinct population of French-Canadian settlers, highlighting shared environmental characteristics of known sites that may have factored into their decision-making process as they chose locations for their farmsteads. While traditional historic and archaeological research has been conducted on French Prairie, the advent of GIS and readily available data sets facilitated this first multivariate, statistical, predictive model of French-Canadian settlement. This study explored theoretical and logistical issues of predictive modeling and determined that this population may be uniquely suited to predictive modeling. Here, however, substantiating a previous settlement pattern was problematic and the variables used produced a weak predictive model. One by-product of this research was the digitalization, rectification and analysis of 1852 GLO maps of the French Prairie during the development of the "known sites" data theme. As an initial attempt at modeling, this study points to the need for ongoing archeological testing and modeling efforts as development on and around French Prairie threatens archaeological resources. The study suggests other environmental and social variables for further testing.

v anglickém jazyce Abstract This thesis focuses on the type of balcony access house in the context of urban development of Žižkov. First, the development of mass housing in general is outlined, followed by the developement of the balcony access house itself, in which was considered also historical perspective of material and social environment of the Žižkov area. The core of the thesis is the analysis of the Žižkov balcony access house with aim to determine its specific features and to show how it get along with the increasing requirements for quality of living, how it has been adapted, as well as how the balcony access house had to retreat. The final chapter establish the impact of the balcony house to the genius loci of Žižkov and demonstrate its understanding on the arts of contemporary architecture. The end of the 19th century in England and France was a time of active growth for publishing houses, newspapers, magazines, and printed materials in general. This contributed to the emergence of a huge number of artists who specialised and occasionally participated in the design of books. These artists won their places through constant competition based on the quality of their drawings. England and France were the centres of the new art of the book, but the views and approaches of representatives of this type of graphics differed from each other in these countries. Thus, the purpose of this report is to demonstrate the difference between the canons and principles of English and French book design at the turn of the twentieth century.

Abstract:
At the end of the 18th century, only 3-4 % of the cultivated area was covered with vineyards. However, the importance of viticulture was not proportionate with the extent of its territorial size - due to the poor public health conditions, most of the waters were non-drinkable, so people usually drunk wines with a 4-5 % alcohol content. The wine production was 13-17 million hectoliters in the first third of the 19th century. During this period, several large estates switched from the former taxation approach to income-oriented market production, in which winemaking played a key role, as it had been an important vital market product before. According to Kaposi, lordships’ cellar economy of lordships was engaged in the storage and treatment operations of wine community customs duty, ninth wine, the supply of wine to inns and public houses, and other wine sales.1 In our study, we examined the most important characteristics of the viticulture and wine sector of the Keszthely-based Festetics estate in the period between 1785-1807, both in terms of production and profitability. We concluded that the share of income from wine within the total income decreased at the beginning of the 1800s, besides high production fluctuation characterized the production of lordships as well as production of the estate; however, the production of the lordships could compensate each other to confirm the diversified production in space.

“The Beginnings of the Summer Camp Movement” presents the early history of the summer camp as background for understanding the circumstances confronted by the new social work profession around the turn of the 20th century. The emergence of summer camps was influenced by the changing economy and industrialization, immigration, health issues, the growth of a transportation network, school vacations, and the rise of a middle socioeconomic class with increased leisure time. The Fresh Air Movement, created by mid-19th century religious, health, and charity organizations, provided daily excursions and weeklong trips to the country for children living in poverty. Early settlement houses initiated informal summer programs for their members. Private camping programs began for upper socioeconomic class boys and, later, girls. Youth-serving organizations including the Ys, the Scouts, and the settlement houses started organized camp programs for children from middle- and lower-socioeconomic class families. Camp directors soon established membership associations.

Another diversion is necessary to acknowledge the return of Guy Fawkes in the present day. No, it’s not his Second Coming, but there is awareness of Guy Fawkes as a role model for modern-day activists and protesters. It has come particularly from Alan Moore and David Lloyd, creators of the graphic novel “V for Vendetta,” a serial first published as a book in 1988. It imagines a ruthless Fascist regime in England in the 1990s, opposed by a lone rebel who calls himself simply V, and who always wears a mask that is a simplified adaptation of the sketches of Guy Fawkes back in the 1600s, but with a smile. The resemblance to Fawkes is emphasized at the very beginning, where unlike Fawkes he casually blows up the houses of Parliament after reciting “Remember, remember, the fifth of December” to a young woman he has just rescued from the police. The story became a movie with Hugo Weaving as V and Natalie Portman as the rescued girl Evey. The masks were used by Occupy protesters and others early in the 21st century. Rather than an arch-villain, V and the mask now signal opposition to government tyranny. This chapter briefly cites Guy Fawkes’s 19th-century adaptations and references, including the beginning of Thomas Hardy’s 1888 novel, Return of the Native.

Typological process, theorised by the Italian Typological School as a continuous transformation process of types, has been frequently discussed in the field of urban morphology. It was widely acknowledged in the field that the identification of typological process can be problematic for three reasons. First, the judgement on the degree to which the transformation of types is determined continuous is largely subject to individual researchers’ opinions. Second, there is no agreement on the exact typological characteristics that are considered in the transformation process. Third, there is limited empirical studies on typological process at articulated scales. This paper attempts to shed some light on the definition of typological process in a rigorous manner through an empirical study of the transformation of Turkish houses. The research compares eight selected housing developments from five morphological periods of distinctive socio-economic, political and cultural conditions in Ankara since the late 19th century. First, a typological frame involving a set of spatial characteristics defining the types is established at the building, street and neighbourhood scales. Then, these spatial characteristics are compared in a chronological order. According to the number of typological characteristics showing continuous, partial continuous or mutational changes, typological process at the three scales are identified. This paper demonstrates a methodological advancement on the definition of typological process in relation to the aforementioned problems. It reduces the ambiguity in the definition of house types in Turkey and can be applicable to other contexts.

The Institute of Mechanism Theory and Machine Dynamics of RWTH Aachen University houses a large collection of more than 200 mechanisms and models. Partly they are used to illustrate and visualize kinematic basics and methods taught to students. Furthermore these models are also used as a basis for mechanical designers looking for a solution to their motion tasks in different machinery such as packaging or processing machines. These models span a wide arch from historic models showing e.g. sewing machines from the late 19th century, typewriters from the early 20th century and acrylic glass models still used today in university lectures where they are placed on the overhead projector. With the swift development of the internet as the major base for information retrieval, new ideas about knowledge presentation have come up. Today it is obvious that fast and easy access to information is a major success factor in most areas both economics and science and is therefore of eminent importance. New developments in information technology and related software have created new possibilities for the presentation of scientific knowledge also in mechanism theory [1]. In this paper the IGM-Mechanism Encyclopaedia and the Digital Mechanism Library will be presented. Both use the possibilities of the internet to make basic and specific knowledge for the analysis and synthesis of mechanisms available to a broad public.
