Abstract:
In 1995, an article by I.P. Zasetskaya and I.I. Marchenko dedicated to the classification of glass kantharoi (skyphos and cups) of the Late Hellenistic and Roman times was published. This work covered vessels, which were kept in various museums around the world, but most of the vessels come from rich Sarmatian and Maeotian burials of the Kuban region. These days many archaeologists have successfully applied this classification. This work is devoted to Maeotian burials from burial grounds of hillforts no. 1 and no. 2 of Lenin and Starokorsunskiy farmsteads with glass skyphos of type IIIb, variant 2 by classification of I.P. Zasetskaya and I.I. Marchenko. The skyphos of the same type bring Maeotian assemblages closer to the Sarmatian burial from Zubovsky barrow 2. The skyphos from Vozdvizhenskaya barrow belonging to type IIIa also has the same variant features. Accepted dating of these assemblages determined the chronology of the existence of the vessel types in general. The skyphos of Vozdvizhenskaya type (IIIa, 2) appear in the second half of the 1st century BC, and of Zubovsky type (IIIb, 2) – at the turn of the era, the period of further synchronous use of both types of vessels lasts until the middle of the 1st century AD. Thus, the time of appearance of types IIIa and IIIb skyphos with handles of variant 2 can supposedly be divided by an interval of about 50 years. The chronology of existence of glass skyphos of the type IIIb, variant 2 is consistent with presence of a silver kantharos, swords with a ring top, iron arrowheads, spearhead and types of beads, gray clay pottery of local production among funerary equipment, which allows to limit dating of the considered burials to the first half of the 1st century AD.

Abstract:
In the Borysthenes collection a fragment of Sub-Geometric skyphos has come to light, which is most likely to have been manufactured in Miletus. The shape of the vessel and the stylistic features of its painted decoration enable us to date it to the second quarter of the 7th century bc. This skyphos, like other vessels in the Sub-Geometric style from barbarian sites in the North Pontic region, was taken there by colonists, who had founded the early apoikiai of Histria and Borysthenes. For this reason, vessels dating from the first half of the 7th century bc cannot be cited as evidence for pre-colonial ties having existed in the Pontic region.

The scene on the Robinson skyphos was wrongly identified for years as a depiction of clay‐working, either in a kiln or other preparation area. Recent scholarship has correctly identified it instead as one related to the grain harvest. This article presents a new examination of the scene, pointing out details the importance of which had not previously been noted. It also brings to bear comparanda from Egyptian art which put the identification of the scene beyond doubt.

Abstract:
The obverse scene of the krater Oxford 526 by the Komaris Painter (Plate VI c) was the subject of J.D. Beazley's first contribution to this journal, an exemplary account from which the relevant passage deserves to be quoted:The space on A is divided by a pillar. To the left of the pillar is the painter's room. A young man dressed in an exomis and seated on a stool is painting the background of a large bell-krater of the same shape as our vase. His left arm is inside the krater, the rim resting on his thigh, and he is applying a large brush to the lower part. At his side is a stand, supporting the skyphos-shaped vase which contains the black paint. In front of the painter a fellow-workman moves to the right carrying a second krater by both handles. He has lifted it from the ground beside the painter and is carrying it out to put it down beside a third krater which stands on the ground at the extreme right of the picture. Presently the batch will go to the furnace. Beyond the pillar is another workman who moves to the right in the same attitude as the last. In his raised right hand he holds a skyphos by the foot. Perhaps he is taking it to join a batch of vases of the same shape, but more probably he has been sent by the busy painter to fetch more paint … A pleasant rhythm is thus imparted to the scene; the first figure is occupied with both vase and paint; the second with vase; and the third with paint.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Management from the NOVA – School of Business and Economics
This Work Project is integrated on SME Competitiveness: internationalization strategy field lab and its aim is to study a Portuguese SME. Abotoa is a small and medium enterprise that sells corporative footwear to a specific niche market – airline industry. The main goal of internationalization of this company is to increase both sales and profitability, which is Skypro’s major short/medium-term goal. Since the Portuguese market has already saturated, Skypro sells to almost all Portuguese airline companies and Skypro has already tried to reach new markets by internationalization. The Middle East appears to Skypro as one of the best regions to expand its sales. It is a region where the majority of the airline companies provide footwear to its employees and where some big companies employ, at least, the same number of the current biggest client of Skypro, TAP. These companies have a great commitment to quality service and the image wear is very important. They are also concerned about providing good footwear to its employees. The airline industry has been having high growth rates. Therefore, we can conclude that it is a very good region to invest/penetrate.

Abstract:
Our time is characterized by the development of new technologies that facilitate communication between people. The need for Video Mediated Communication (VMC) is increasing because people move to other locations due to migration and global mobility. VMC provides the opportunity for millions of people around the world to “hang out” and see each other despite the distance in between. The world is "shrinking" because of the Internet and our perception of distance is changing. VMC is becoming increasingly available, in the form of applications like Skype and MSN for mobile phones and computers, and in addition, it’s practically free. The purpose of this thesis is to render a picture of the way in which people use Skype in the private sphere. We aim to identify possible operational forces and obstacles and their impact on the usage pattern of Skype's video feature. The study showed that Skype's video feature is used mainly to communicate with family members and close friends who are geographically remote. Video communication contributes to a sense of presence and belonging, which motivates users to overcome possible difficulties and obstacles.

A Work Project, presented as part of the requirements for the Award of a Masters Degree in Management from the NOVA – School of Business and Economics
In a world where it is even more important to be a global company to remain competitive, it is important that companies act not only regionally but also in foreign markets. In this report, I will develop an internationalization strategy for a small and medium enterprise, Abotoa, in order that one of its brand, SKYRO SHOES enters the USA market. Since the company already supplies the majority of the Portuguese airlines and has the desire to increase its sales volume and improve its brand awareness, following an internationalization process seems the right way to do this. It is important to note that I will highlight only one brand of the Abotoa, SKYPRO, because it is the one that, presently, has the highest potential for internationalization and that generates higher profits. At the end of this work project, I will provide reliable recommendations and solutions that could be adopted by Abotoa, in order to help this company to achieve its goals.

Correia, Daniel Teixeira. "Internationalization strategy of Skypro Shoes to Japan." Master's thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10362/14893.

Full text
Abstract:
Skypro is a footwear brand targeted at the aviation professionals’ niche market, explored by the Portuguese microenterprise Abotoa Lda..The saturation of the Portuguese market led Skypro to expand to different worldwide countries and to be a footwear supplier of Airlines from the USA, Qatar or Australia, among others. Abotoa aims for its 2014’s exports to represent around 80% of total sales and this Internationalization Plan for Japan represents the possibility of further exploring the Asian market. Japan appears as the 2nd worldwide footwear importer and the 5th footwear consumer, with a high purchasing power – GDP per capita (PPP). This country possesses two enormous Airlines (ANA and JAL) that employ more than 15000 on-board personnel, the world’s 4th busiest Airport in 2013 (Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport) and a geographic structure with more than 6500 islands, implying high frequency of aerial transportation in the medium-run. These aspects make Japan an adequate country to invest in. At the course of this Work Project, trustworthy recommendations are provided for the current state of Abotoa and for the introduction and implementation of this Internationalization Plan. These findings strongly suggest that Skypro should indeed penetrate Japan’s market.

Abstract:
Abstract According to a fairly prevalent Greek view, instability and risk are the very essence of existence, or reality (hyparxis). Heroism is dangerous, but it is through danger that life ceases to be banal. Both tragedy and comedy depend on this insight for their substance and effect. In the following I shall draw on Athenian vase-painting and the evidence of Sophokles and three Presocratic philosophers to explore the Greek attitude to risk, a focal anthropological concept and culturally conditioned idea. My point of departure will be two joining bowl fragments of a Sotadean cup-skyphos in a Swiss private collection. As chance would have it, the two fragments preserve most of the vessel’s picture decoration (Fig. 79, Cat. C3).

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines points of overlap between mythography and Greek vase painting. Although vase painters had different goals from mythographers, they used similar organizational and rhetorical strategies to present and reflect on myth. The chapter shows that the strategies of narrative, catalogue, and pendant can be detected in both vase painting and mythography. The François vase is discussed as an example of visual narrative and catalogue; the “Heroines pyxis” in London is treated as a second instance of catalogue; and Makron’s skyphos depicting the abduction and recovery of Helen is offered as an instance of pendant images. While vase paintings were not strictly mythographic in themselves, the examples considered in this chapter suggest that painters expected viewers to be adept at the same sorts of narration and comparison that made mythographic thought possible. The chapter ends by discussing some limitations of the approach that compares vase painting and mythography.

Abstract:
Airborne particulate matter is one of the main air pollutants. Their impact on mortality, and the occurrence of pulmonary and cardiovascular complications, have been the subject of numerous studies. Airborne particles are complex mixtures of organic and inorganic substances from different sources of particle emissions. Particulate Matter (PM) particles are classified according to their aerodynamic diameter expressed in µm and can vary from coarse (PM 10) to fine (less than PM 2.5). These diameter considerations are fundamental because they condition the penetration of particles into the bronchopulmonary system and the body. In recent years, there has been an interest in so-called “ultra-fine” particles, with a diameter of 0.1 µm (or 100 nm), or PM 0.1. They are nanoparticles and their impact on human health is not yet clear. With more than 1.5 million employees, textiles and clothing is a diverse sector that plays an important role in the European manufacturing industry, producing a turnover of €162 billion. An important component of the solid particles that generate air pollution in the textile industry is microplastics (MP) and nano plastics (NP), which also include microfibers (<5mm) and nanofibers (<100 nm), respectively. The particles released into the air during fiber and yarn processing range from 1 µg/m3 to 50 µg/m3.The paper presents the results of the determination of indoor and outdoor air concentration levels in textile companies, to identify the areas with the highest concentration level, by using an online recording system such as the Laser Aerosol Spectrometer MINI LAS model 11-E. The total concentration level TSP (µg/m3), the fractions PM 10(µg/m3), PM 2.5(µg/m3), PM1(µg/m3), as well as the total number of particles TC (1/l), were shown. It was noted that TSP is approximately at the same level both indoors and outdoors, but the fractions of PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 have much higher values indoors than outdoors with possible consequences on workers' health. The next step was the collection of fibers, namely micro and nano plastic particles from the vicinity of the workplaces of polyester, polyamide, and polypropylene fibers processing units in the textile industry in Romania, to obtain a sufficient quantity for laboratory analysis to determine the size and shape of the particles as well as their chemical composition. Two types of pumps were used, differentiated by their operating parameters: TECORA SKYPOST with airflow of 38 l/min and GILAIRPLUS with airflow 2l/min. Filters made of different materials with different diameters and pore sizes were used, namely: quartz filters (ø 47 mm, and ø 37 mm) on a TECORA SKYPOST type pump, polycarbonate nucleopore coated with a gold membrane (ø 25 mm) and silica filter (ø 9 mm) on GILAIRPLUS type pump.Using descriptive statistics, the calculation of correlation coefficients highlighted a strong correlation between the variables: "Collected mass/ Air concentration" and "Collected mass/ Air volume" for all diameters of the filters. The highest collected particle volume, determined by weighing the filters before and after collection, was obtained with the quartz filters (ø 47 mm) at an airflow of 38 l/min. The particles collected (polyester, polyamide, polypropylene) in the first stage were analyzed by SEM and thermogravimetric and it was found that the quartz filters absorbed the particles inside, with very few remaining on the surface. Thus no known methods can be used to perform analysis for particles collected on quartz filters. The number of particles on the filters was insufficient for analysis either because of the collection parameters used or because of the loss of particles during transport. As a result, in the next step, the use of 9 mm Si filters using the GILAIRPLUS pump at an airflow rate of 2l/min was chosen. To improve the transport conditions and avoid the loss of the particles and keep them on the surface of the filters, two methods were applied:- after weighing the filters were reintroduced into the collection pump holder;- a filtration system for airborne micro-nano plastics was designed and manufactured to selectively collect and transport PM10 and PM1 particles collected on SI filters. In both cases, SEM, Raman mapping, and GS-MS microscopy were used for analysis.Several times more PM10 than PM1 (74.5µg compared to 12.5 µg) was found. In all cases, both particles and fibers showed the same Raman fingerprint. The GS-MS analyses showed some contamination of the workspaces with particles other than the processed fibers. The presence of non-notifiable substances was also observed. The most viable filters are Si filters with a pore size of 10 microns to 1 micron and the use of the selected collection and transport filter system. In the following a filter system will be applied for collection on Au membrane-coated polycarbonate filters.
