Abstract:
Hepatocellular carcinoma is today the sixth leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, despite the decreased incidence of chronic hepatitis infections. This is due to the increased diffusion of metabolic diseases such as the metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The current protein kinase inhibitor therapies in HCC are very aggressive and not curative. From this perspective, a shift in strategy toward metabolic therapies may represent a promising option. Here, we review current knowledge on metabolic dysregulation in HCC and therapeutic approaches targeting metabolic pathways. We also propose a multi-target metabolic approach as a possible new option in HCC pharmacology.

Abstract:
Sixth-generation wireless (6G) technology has been focused on in the wireless research community. Global coverage, massive spectrum usage, complex new applications, and strong security are among the new paradigms introduced by 6G. However, realizing such features may require computation capabilities transcending those of present (classical) computers. Large technology companies are already exploring quantum computers, which could be adopted as potential technological enablers for 6G. This is a promising avenue to explore because quantum computers exploit the properties of quantum states to perform certain computations significantly faster than classical computers. This paper focuses on routing optimization in wireless mesh networks using quantum computers, explicitly applying the quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA). Single-objective and multi-objective examples are presented as robust candidates for the application of quantum machine learning. Moreover, a discussion about quantum supremacy estimation for this problem is provided.

Abstract:
Primary liver cancer is the sixth most prevalent cancer worldwide and ranked in third for cancer-related mortality rate. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for about 90% of all primary liver cancers. High vascularization of HCC implies the significance of angiogenesis in the development and pathogenesis of HCC. Several angiogenic pathways have been identified as being dysregulated in HCC, highlighting potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of HCC. In 2007, sorafenib was approved as the standard first-line treatment for advanced HCC, catapulting the therapeutic approach of HCC into the avenue of targeted therapy. In recent years, the approval of several novel targeted drugs and the progress in combination of immunotherapy and targeted therapies provide more alternatives for the treatment of HCC. The progress of anti-angiogenesis therapies in HCC over the past few decades is reviewed and the future prospect of anti-angiogenesis therapy for HCC is also discussed.

Anime Adapting (and Complementing) High Literature. The Suffering of “The Lady from the Sixth Avenue” Abstract: Japanese animation, although gradually, divests itself of its negative connotation. Authors like Hayao Miyazaki have upgraded Anime beyond many prejudices, and some of their works even achieve a psychological and artistic profundity aside from “live” films/movies. This is the case of Gisaburo Sugii and Osamu Dezaki, two authors that, adapting Genji Monogatari respectively, have achieved a broad and complete vision of a vital character to understand the ghostly thing in Japanese culture: Rokujō no Miyasudokoro.

Abstract:
The constituent year effect, a source of relative age disparities, in masters sport has been demonstrated mainly amongst North American samples. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine whether a participation-related constituent year effect exists among athletes (n = 6492) competing in Australian Masters Athletics competitions between 2000 and 2014. The results indicated that a participation-related constituent year effect was observed as the likelihood of participating was significantly higher for masters athletes in their first and second constituent year of any five-year age category (p < 0.0001) and was lower when they were in the fourth or fifth constituent year. The results also indicated this effect is influenced by gender and age. Specifically, the effect was significant for both male (p < 0.0001) and female (p < 0.001) masters athletes; as well during the third, sixth, seventh, and eighth + decades of life (all ps < 0.001). These data demonstrate that despite masters sport being an avenue for promotion of participation and overall health, there is potential for improving how competitive organizational strategies are implemented given the recurring intermittent patterns of participation associated with five-year age brackets which are likely to compromise benefits.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the image of the “socialist cities” of Kharkiv (“New Kharkiv”) and Zaporizhzhia (“Sixth Village”) on the pages of city guidebooks in the second half of XX – early XXI centuries. It is concluded that the images of “socialist cities” in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia have a similar set of markers. Both are built next to the iconic industrial enterprises (KhTP, DniproHES), in accordance with the new principles of urban planning. Life in these cities contributed to the establishment of socialist life of workers. Technical parameters of “New Kharkiv” and “Sixth Village” are also similar: residential areas with developed social infrastructure (schools, hospitals, clubs, etc.), a lot of greenery.During the 1950s – 1980s, the image of the “socialist city” in the cultural landscape of Kharkiv was dynamic and positive. “New Kharkiv” was an independent tourist attraction, the final destination of one of the main tourist routes in the city. Its space was self-sufficient. The activities of KhTP ensured the stability of the meaning of life and the language of description of the “socialist city”. The economic crisis led to the collapse of the social structure of the plant, the meaning of existence of the “social city” blurred, from the space of stay (according to K. Lynch) it transformed into the space of transit. In the 1990s, the functional and ideological significance of “New Kharkiv” was lost. The authors of guidebooks focused their attention primarily on the central areas of the city. This led to its symbolic oblivion and “sealing”. Self-centeredness did not allow the “socialist city” to be inscribed in the symbolic landscape of Kharkiv in the first two decades of independence. On the pages of guidebooks, the “socialist city” of Zaporizhzhia was an exemplary, but transit space. A typical city sightseeing route started from DniproHES and continued along the central avenue to the railway station. Metaphors to describe the “socialist city” (“city of workers’”, “garden city”, etc.) became the basis for the practice of self-representation of Zaporizhzhia. It should be noted that the proper name of the “socialist city” – “Sixth Village” appeared on the pages of guidebooks only during the years of independence of Ukraine. The image of exemplary space, formed on the pages of guidebooks, was used by local authorities as a symbol of successful development of the city. “Socialist city” became a space of residence, and the conversation about it in public discourse began to take place in the discourse of preservation of historical and cultural heritage.

Abstract:
Endometrial cancer (EC) is the sixth most common cancer in women worldwide and is responsible for more than 89,000 deaths every year. Mortality is associated with presence of poor prognostic factors at diagnosis, i.e., diagnosis at an advanced stage, with a high grade and/or an aggressive histology. Development of novel approaches that would permit us to improve the clinical management of EC patients is an unmet need. In this study, we investigate a novel approach to identify highly sensitive and specific biomarkers of EC using extracellular vesicles (EVs) isolated from the peritoneal lavage of EC patients. EVs of peritoneal lavages of 25 EC patients were isolated and their miRNA content was compared with miRNAs of EVs isolated from the ascitic fluid of 25 control patients. Expression of the EV-associated miRNAs was measured using the Taqman OpenArray technology that allowed us to detect 371 miRNAs. The analysis showed that 114 miRNAs were significantly dysregulated in EC patients, among which eight miRNAs, miRNA-383-5p, miRNA-10b-5p, miRNA-34c-3p, miRNA-449b-5p, miRNA-34c-5p, miRNA-200b-3p, miRNA-2110, and miRNA-34b-3p, demonstrated a classification performance at area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) values above 0.9. This finding opens an avenue for the use of EV-associated miRNAs of peritoneal lavages as an untapped source of biomarkers for EC.

Abstract:
Quantitative characterization of surgical movements can improve the quality of patient care by informing the development of new training protocols for surgeons, and the design and control of surgical robots. Here, we focus on the relationship between the speed of movement and its geometry that was extensively studied in computational motor control. In three-dimensional movements, this relationship is defined by a family of speed–curvature–torsion power laws, such as the one-sixth power law. We present a novel characterization of open and teleoperated suturing movements using the speed–curvature–torsion power-law analysis. We fitted the gain and the exponents of this power law to suturing movements of participants with different levels of surgical experience in open (using sensorized forceps) and teleoperated (using the da Vinci Research Kit/da Vinci Surgical System) conditions from two different datasets. We found that expertise and teleoperation significantly affected the gain and exponents of the power law, and that there were large differences between different segments of movement. These results confirm that the relationship between the speed and geometry of surgical movements is indicative of surgical skill, open a new avenue for understanding the effect of teleoperation on the movements of surgeons, and lay the foundation for the development of new algorithms for automatic segmentation of surgical tasks.

Abstract:
As a youngster, Art Rust, Jr., one of New York's first prominent black sportscasters, lived on St. Nicholas Avenue, a stone's throw equally from Minton's and Monroe's, the after-hours clubs where Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk created bebop, and the Polo Grounds, home of the New York Giants. Rust remembered the day in the 1930s when “Billy the Cop,” just off duty, told Rust's father that Giant manager Bill Terry, the last National League player to hit over 400, complained to the precinct commander. Terry didn't want any “nigger cops” patrolling the Polo Grounds, at least not near the executive entrances. Almost twenty years later, in the early 1950s, George Weiss, the general manager of the New York Yankees, a team whose Ruthian dominance prevailed in the Stadium, built with intentional perversity within eyesight of the Polo Grounds just across the East River in the South Bronx, responded to charges that the Yankees had failed to sign black players. In private, Weiss said, “I will never allow a black man to wear a Yankee uniform. Boxholders from Westchester don't want that sort of crowd. They would be offended to have to sit with niggers.” Publicly, in the spring of 1952, he responded that the team had been looking long and hard for a black player, “good enough to make the Yankees.” Weiss's accuser, Jackie Robinson, then entering his sixth season with the Brooklyn Dodgers, rejoined, “Bullshit.”

Abstract:
Background: Guatemala exhibits the sixth highest rate of child stunting worldwide, and stunting disproportionately affects Guatemala indigenous communities. In a country struggling to combat this result of malnutrition, early child nutrition is especially critical. Specifically, early initiation of breastfeeding is important for the development of newborn infants. Understanding beliefs and practices related to early initiation of breastfeeding in Maya Guatemala may provide an avenue to guide nutrition interventions in indigenous communities. Research aim: This study aimed to determine major beliefs and practices associated with early initiation of breastfeeding among Maya mothers in Lake Atitlán, Guatemala. Methods: As part of a larger study to assess child nutrition in the Lake Atitlán region, we created a series of semistructured interview questions to document breastfeeding practices and beliefs among mothers. We conducted and audio-recorded in-person interviews that were translated from Kaqchikel, the local language, to Spanish by a community assistant. Results: We conducted 178 interviews with mothers; 76% practiced early initiation. Early initiation was associated with the village and complementary feeding practices. Mothers held a variety of beliefs about the value of colostrum, and these beliefs were associated with the village. Mothers who held negative beliefs toward colostrum were more likely to delay breastfeeding initiation. Conclusion: Although most Maya mothers practice early initiation, the intervillage disparity in breastfeeding practices demonstrates a need to geographically focus breastfeeding interventions. Our novel insights into the breastfeeding beliefs among Maya mothers will serve as a guide to structure culturally competent breastfeeding education interventions in indigenous communities.

Abstract:
Purpose. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth leading cancer globally, and radiotherapy plays a crucial part in its treatment. This study was designed to identify potential genes related to radiation resistance in HNSCC. Method. We first used text mining to obtain common genes related to radiotherapy resistance and HNSCC in published articles. Functional enrichment analyses were conducted to identify the significantly enriched pathways and genes. Protein and protein interactions were performed, and the most significant gene modules were determined; then, genes in the gene modules were validated at transcriptional levels and overall survival. Gene set variation analysis (GSVA) score was calculated, and the association between GSVA score and survival/pathway was estimated. Immune cell infiltration, methylation, and genetic alteration analysis of these genes was conducted in HNSCC patients. Finally, potential sensitive anticancer drugs related to target genes were obtained. Result. We identified 583 common genes through text mining. After further validation, a four-gene signature (EPHB2, SPP1, SERPINE1, and VEGFC) was constructed. The patients with higher GSVA scores have a worse prognosis than those with lower GSVA scores. Differences in methylation of these four genes in HNSCC tumor tissue and normal tissue were compared, with higher methylation levels of EBPH2 and SPP1 in normal tissue and higher methylation levels of SERPINE1 in the tumor. Immune cell infiltration revealed that the increased expression of these genes was closely related to the infiltration level of CD4+ T cell, neutrophil, macrophage, and dendritic cell. Thirty drugs, including 22 positively and eight negatively correlated drugs that most correlated with related genes, were available for treating HNSCC. Conclusion. In this study, we identified four potential genes as well as corresponding drugs that might be related to radioresistance in HNSCC patients. These candidate genes may provide a promising avenue to further elevate radiotherapy efficacy.

Abstract:
Besides specifying or clarifying the current address of the restaurants and taverns mentioned in the story, it appeared necessary to give a minimum description of this or that eating-house as most of the relevant names and cases of comparing and contrasting some of them say little to a common reader and sometimes to a specialist as well. The study of these restaurants and taverns adds many new details to Shevchenko’s biography. Based on the information of the author’s contemporaries (mostly from the 1830s—1840s), descriptions in the fiction ot the time, as well as city guides and directories, the paper presents characteristics of St. Petersburg restaurants and confectioneries of Alexander, Delli, Dume, Klee, Saint Georges, the Roman cafes Lepri and Greco. The paper proves that Madame Jurgens’ eating-house was located not on the sixth line of Vasilyevsky Island, but the third one, near the Great Avenue, not far from the wine cellar of Ja. Vochts on the second line. It refutes the erroneous localization by M. Morenets who believed that Jurgens canteen worked in a house at the modern address 6 Buzky Lane / 7 the 6th line. In fact, there was a tavern “The Golden Anchor”, which is also visited by the characters of the story. There is evidence that allows assuming that the tavern “Berlin” mentioned in the story as one in the corner of the 6th line and Academic Lane was located at the modern address 3 6th line / 10 Academic Lane, because since the early 19th century there was a wine shop in this particular building, and not in the one at the opposite corner. When not lacking money to pay, Shevchenko and his Academy classmates had lunch mostly in Madame Jurgens’ eating-house. If they could afford it, getting paid for a portrait or something, they visited the restaurant Klee. K. Bryullov could sometimes invite them for dinner at Delli’s confectionery or Alexander’s restaurant. Shevchenko also knew some other aristocratic eating-houses and, of course, just heard of Roman cafes from others.

Abstract:
Abstract Human papillomavirus (HPV)-negative head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most common cancer type in the world and is associated with an overall poor prognosis. The protein methyltransferase SET and MYND domain-containing 3 (SMYD3), which trimethylates H3K4 and H4K20, can stimulate gene transcription and activate several oncogenic pathways, including epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and cell cycle related pathways. Additionally, its expression is associated with a poor prognosis in various cancer types, such as colon and ovarian cancer. This study aims to decipher whether SMYD3 has direct oncogenic effects and relevant mechanisms in HPV-negative HNSCC. Our preliminary results have demonstrated that SMYD3 is significantly overexpressed in HPV-negative HNSCC compared to normal and dysplastic epithelium. SMYD3 knockdown decreased cellular proliferation and clonal capacity in CFAs after siRNA-mediated SMYD3 knockdown in several HPV-negative HNSCC cell lines or CRISPR-mediated SMYD3 knockout. Cell cycle analysis of CRISPR SMYD3 KO cell lines showed a significant decrease in the S phase, supporting that cell cycle arrest may be a mechanism through which this decreased cellular proliferation occurs. Nuclear/cytoplasmic dissociation and western blotting of 6 HPV-negative HNSCC cell lines, and immunohistochemistry for SMYD3 in primary and recurrent/metastatic HPV-negative HNSCC tumor tissues have identified the expression of SMYD3 in both the cytoplasm and nucleus, with greater expression in the cytoplasm than the nucleus. Ongoing experiments aim to investigate the effects of SMYD3 knockdown on the global proteome, as well as its effects on histone post-translational modifications in HPV-negative HNSCC cell lines. Genome-wide mapping for SMYD3, H3K4me3 and H4K20me3 in HPV- negative HNSCC cells using CUT&RUN assays are ongoing with the goal to identify direct downstream gene targets regulated by human SMYD3. Finally, we plan to investigate if SMYD3 knockout decreases tumor growth in NSG xenografts. This study may provide the biological rational to target SMYD3 as a novel therapeutic avenue in HPV-negative HNSCC. Studies of later life assert that sense of usefulness impacts life satisfaction. This study determines what impacts sense of usefulness. The sample consists of 108 older adults, ages sixty through ninety, who were involved with community organizations. The research instrument was a forty-five-item questionnaire. Findings identify five correlates of sense of usefulness: continuity in respect from younger ages ( p < .01), involvement with family ( p < .05), involvement with a significant other ( p < .01), involvement with community ( p < .01), and meeting one's expectations for old age ( p < .01). “Continuity in respect,” “meeting one's expectations,” and “sense of usefulness” combine into a scale that correlates with satisfaction in later life ( p < .001). Results contribute to theoretical understanding of later life development and suggest directions for work with the aging client system.

Abstract:
Identifying take-all pathogens, Gaeumannomyces graminis varieties avenae (Gga), graminis (Ggg), and tritici (Ggt), is difficult. Rapid identification is important for development of disease thresholds. We developed a single-tube, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method differentiating among Gga, Ggg, and Ggt. Nucleotide base sequence analyses of avenacinase-like genes from Gga, Ggg, and Ggt isolates provided the basis for designing variety-specific primers. Sequences from Ggg and Ggt were highly related (99% identity), but Gga sequences were <95% identical to Ggg and Ggt sequences. Three 5′ primers specific for Gga, Ggt, and Ggg and a single 3′ common primer allowed amplification of variety-specific fragments of 617, 870, and 1,086 bp, respectively. Each 5′ primer was specific in mixed populations of primers and templates. No PCR products were amplified from related fungi including Gaeumannomyces cylindrosporus and Phialophora spp. We surveyed 16 putative Ggt isolates using our assay; nine produced Ggt-specific fragments and seven produced Ggg-specific fragments. Five Gga isolates produced Gga-specific fragments. However, Gga- and Ggt-specific fragments were observed from a sixth Gga isolate, RB-W, which indicates a mixed culture or a heterokaryon. Our single-tube, PCR method rapidly differentiates among the important take-all pathogens commonly encountered together in cereal fields.

Abstract:
Crown rust, caused by Puccinia coronata f. sp. avenae (Pca), is the most important disease and yield limiting factor of oat production in eastern Canada. In this study 101 oat genotypes composed of 51 cultivars and 50 breeding lines from eight oat breeding programs across Canada were evaluated for seedling reactions to six common Pca races, as well as reactions to a bulk inoculum of Pca in greenhouse trials and for adult plant resistance (APR) to natural populations of Pca in field trials in 2014 and 2015. Sixty-six genotypes showed resistant reactions to at least one of the six races; of these, 22 were resistant to all six races. These 22 genotypes also showed resistance to the bulk inoculum at the seeding stage and to the natural populations of Pca at the adult plant stage, suggesting that these current and future oat varieties have effective resistance against the common races and Pca populations in the region. Eleven genotypes, including 12ANS03, AAC Bullet, CFA1213, CFA1306, Idaho, OA1301-1w-3, OA1369-5, OA1370-2, OA1371-2, OA1383-2, and Oscar, were susceptible as seedlings but resistant as adult plants. APR is proven to be long lasting and provides broad-spectrum resistance to Pca populations. The 11 oat genotypes identified with APR in the present study are more desirable as sources of resistance for breeding programs developing durable crown rust resistant cultivars for eastern Canada.

Abstract:
Two of the key information technologies with very high expectations to change our contemporary society are the fifth generation broadband cellular network technologies, which are already emerging to markets, and the foreseen sixth generation broadband cellular network technologies currently under research and development. The core promise of these next generation technologies lies especially in lower latency for providing users feedback on their behavior; thus, growing opportunities for influencing users in their everyday contexts. This viewpoint article seeks to discuss how these opportunities may impact future information technology in general and especially persuasive design and research before 2030. In addition, we will address challenges regarding the promise of 5G and 6G technologies. Information and communication technology can support individuals’ behavioral change only if they can access the technology. In this article, we will exemplify this by presenting possible ways to minimize the digital divide between rural and urban areas, wherein lies a general danger that the divide would increase further.

Abstract:
Relationship-oriented questions have always been at the crossroads of ethnoreligious identity, religious freedom, religious conversion, religious prejudice, and religious pluralism throughout Muslim-Buddhist co-existence in the sixth century within the Malay Archipelago. Other faiths could be freely practised except for propagation towards Muslim communities with Islam being the religion of the federation. This study aimed to explore Muslim-Buddhist relation types and the issues underpinning the following themes: history, identity, and concerns. Content and thematic analysis as well discourse analysis were utilised as the study method for data collection and evaluation. The data were thematically analysed with ATLAS.ti, a qualitative analysis software. Resultantly, the Muslim-Buddhist interaction pattern in Malaysia has occurred (culturally and religiously) from the early establishment of both religious communities. This relation, which has shifted in ethnoreligious orientation at every interaction level, opens more avenues and complexities requiring holistic management.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients in remission who present with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) like symptoms pose a diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma that is called post-IBD IBS-D. This syndrome was first reported by Isgar et al. who documented IBS-type symptoms in 33% of their patients with chronic ulcerative colitis (CUC) in remission in 1983. In their meta-analysis of 13 studies incorporating 1,703 patients, Halpin and Ford in 2012 calculated a pooled prevalence of 35% for IBS symptoms among IBD subjects in remission. The post-IBD IBS-D syndrome represents a source of considerable stress, incurs morbidity and impairs quality of life of these patients. The etiology of this syndrome is unknown and may be multifactorial such as environmental, psychological, GI motility disarray, genetic components and possibly by gut microbiome. Methods We conducted a retrospective, single-center study of patients with history of IBD and IBS-D like symptoms. The demographic characteristics, type of IBD, colonoscopy, biopsy findings and empirical medical management outcome were analyzed. Results We have found significantly increased mucosal eosinophils (>50 HPF in both side of the colon examined) in our patients with post-IBD IBS-D syndrome. In this study, 15 CUC patients and 20 Crohn’s disease patients with this syndrome were investigated and showed no clinical, serological, mucosal or microscopic IBD activity. These patients had non-bloody diarrhea (5–20 x daily), lower abdominal cramps (%90), mild weight loss (4–6 lbs) and fecal incontinence (%25) who were placed on the GI-hypoallergenic diet and budesonide therapy. Sixty seven percent of these 35 patients with post-IBD IBS-D responded well clinically to this management. Increased mucosal eosinophils in these patients with post-IBD IBS-D may have eosinophilic colopathy that may be related to intestinal permeability disarray. The epithelium in these IBD patients who are in remission may have the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines by the eosinophils, especially IL-23 and IL-33. This interesting area investigation is in progress by our research faculty. Conclusion In summary, this is an exciting new finding that significantly increased mucosal eosinophils in our patients with post-IBD IBS-D syndrome may have a new avenue, eosinophilic colopathy. Interestingly, these patients have responded to the GI-hypoallergenic diet and budesonide therapy. Obviously, we need more patients in the near future with longer follow-up and we hope that the other investigators may confirm our findings.

Preeclampsia is a disease specific to pregnancy characterised by new-onset hypertension with maternal organ dysfunction and/or fetal growth restriction. It remains a major cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. For sixty years, antihypertensives have been the mainstay of treating preeclampsia and only recently have insights into the pathogenesis of the disease opened new avenues for novel therapies. Melatonin is one such option, an endogenous and safe antioxidant, that may improve the maternal condition in preeclampsia while protecting the fetus from a hostile intrauterine environment. Here we review the evidence for melatonin as a possible adjuvant therapy for preeclampsia, including in vitro evidence supporting a role for melatonin in protecting the human placenta, preclinical models, vascular studies, and clinical studies in hypertension and pregnancy.

Abstract:
In 2021, Adidas celebrated the sixth anniversary of its partnership with Parley for the Oceans (Parley), an organization dedicated to reducing oceanic pollution by repurposing recovered plastic, like fishing nets and plastic bottles. The athletic retail titan has demonstrated a commitment to fighting the issue of plastic waste in the fashion and sport industries. This partnership led to Adidas’ adoption of Parley’s plastic mitigation strategy, AIR: avoid, intercept, and redesign, and serves as an example of how some sport organizations have incorporated environmental concerns into their overall corporate social responsibility initiatives. Serving in the role of Adidas’ Assistant Director of Global Partnerships, students are challenged to understand environmental concerns sport organizations face and propel this partnership forward in new, innovative, and creative ways. Because of their global influence and visibility, sport entities should be particularly invested in their perceived corporate social responsibility as it relates to the natural environment, while also understanding how their business contributes directly to environmental issues. Students will gain an understanding of environmental sustainability within corporate social responsibility, while (a) assessing Adidas’ efforts to strategically combat the world’s plastic pollution crisis and (b) identifying additional avenues for sport organizations to promote environmental sustainability.

Abstract:
AbstractClimate change has become a household term. As the climate crisis grows increasingly pressing, climate litigation has proven instrumental as a driver for change. Brazil is an important jurisdiction for climate matters: It is the sixth largest global greenhouse gas emitter, responsible for 3.2 percent of global emissions,1 and home to the largest extension of the Amazon rainforest. Climate litigation has been gaining traction, but it is still far less frequent than environmental litigation at large. Against the backdrop of the state and trends of climate litigation in the country, this article explores theoretical and practical avenues to further expand the strategic deployment of climate cases in Brazil. First, it analyzes how climate claims can be construed with arguments that are impervious to the political question doctrine. Second, it explores possibilities of bringing claims against private entities, challenging more granular obligations arising out of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks. Third, it discusses the role of lawyers in bridging theoretical and practical gaps, namely those between environmental law and climate law, between scientific experts and courts, and between international and domestic climate change regimes.

Abstract:
Primary liver cancer (PLC) is the sixth most common tumour disease and one of the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide. The two most common types of PLC are hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). Diverse subgroups are described and a manifold number of gene mutations are known. Asymptomatic disease progression and limited therapeutic options are the reasons for the high mortality rate in PLC. Up to date, the multikinase inhibitors sorafenib and lenvatinib are the only FDA-approved first-line treatments for advanced HCC. One of the major drawbacks in the preclinical drug development is the lack of suitable model systems. In recent years, 3D organoid cultures were established from several organs and tumour subtypes, thereby opening new avenues in tumour research. 3D organoid cultures are used to describe the tumour diversity, for cancer modelling in a dish and for therapy responsiveness. The establishment of living biobanks and the development of next-generation matrices are promising approaches to overcome drug resistance and to improve the quality of personalised anticancer strategies for patients with PLC. In this review, we summarise the current knowledge of 3D cultures generated from healthy liver and primary liver cancer.

Abstract:
It is estimated that annually 100,000 to 300,000 youth are at risk for sex trafficking; a commercial sex act induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or any such act where the person induced to perform such an act is younger than 18 years of age. Increasingly, such transactions are occurring online via Internet-based sites that serve the commercial sex industry. Commercial sex transactions involving trafficking are illegal; thus, Internet discussions between those involved must be veiled. Even so, transactions around sex trafficking do occur. Within these transactions are innuendos that provide one avenue for detecting potential activity. The purpose of this study is to identify linguistic indicators of potential commercial sexual exploitation within the online comments of men posted on an Internet site. Six hundred sixty-six posts from five Midwest cities and 363 unique members were analyzed via content analysis. Three main indicators were found: the presence of youth or desire for youthfulness, presence of pimps, and awareness of vulnerability. These findings begin a much-needed dialogue on uncovering online risks of commercial sexual exploitation and support the need for further research on Internet indicators of sex trafficking.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to enhance understanding of how parents are socialized by their children's organized youth sport participation. Five semistructured focus groups were conducted with youth sport parents (N = 26) and analyzed using qualitative methods based on Strauss and Corbin (1998). Sixty-three underlying themes reflected parents' perceived socialization experiences resulting from their children's organized youth sport participation. Each theme represented 1 of 11 subcategories of parental change, which were subsumed within four broad categories of parent sport socialization (behavior, cognition, affect, relationships). Each category of parental change was interconnected with the other three categories. Moreover, six potential moderators of parent sport socialization were documented, namely, child age, parent past sport experience, parent and child gender, child temperament, community sport context, and type of sport setting (individual or team). Together, these findings enhance understanding of parent sport socialization processes and outcomes, thus opening avenues for future research on parents in the youth sport setting.

Abstract:
Scholars of the geography of innovation have produced an impressive body of literature over the last decades. However, until recently this research focused on successful core regions, implicitly assuming that there is no innovation in peripheral areas. This view is being increasingly questioned, which is reflected by a rising number of papers, special issues, and edited volumes on innovation outside of agglomerations. Hence, this rapidly emerging field calls for a critical survey. In order to identify a future research agenda, this article conducts a systematic literature review of the work on innovation in the periphery (1960–2016). As such, it explores the recurring themes and key issues of the field and discusses the various periphery concepts applied, ranging from a geographic to a functional perspective on various scales. In doing so, it outlines options for policy makers and suggests avenues for future research: first, the periphery concept needs more refinement. Second, future studies should include systematic comparisons of regions. Third, an evolutionary perspective might provide new insights. Fourth, future work could explore the benefits peripheries offer for certain kinds of innovation. Fifth, urban–rural linkages might be of higher relevance than assumed. Sixth, research should go beyond the well-known examples. Finally, the analysis could be extended by applying a broader understanding of innovation.

Abstract:
Sixty-eight percent of persons infected with HIV live in Africa, but as few as 67% of those know their infection status. The emergency department (ED) might be a critical access point to HIV testing. This study sought to measure and compare HIV prevalence in an ED injury population with other clinical and nonclinical populations across Tanzania. Adults (≥18 years) presenting to Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center ED with acute injury of any severity were enrolled in a trauma registry. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to compare HIV prevalence in the trauma registry with other population groups. Further, 759 injury patients were enrolled in the registry; 78.6% were men and 68.2% consented to HIV counseling and testing. The HIV prevalence was 5.02% (tested), 6.25% (self-report), and 5.31% (both). The systematic review identified 79 eligible studies reporting HIV prevalence (tested) in 33 clinical and 12 nonclinical population groups. Notable groups included ED injury patients (3.53%, 95% CI), multiple injury patients (10.67%, 95% CI), and people who inject drugs (17.43%, 95% CI). These findings suggest that ED injury patients might be at higher HIV risk compared to the general population, and the ED is a potential avenue to increasing HIV testing among young adults, particularly men.

Abstract:
The effective management of patients with breast cancer (BC) depends on the early diagnosis of the disease. Currently, BC diagnosis is based on diagnostic imaging and biopsy, while the use of non-invasive circulating biomarkers for diagnosis remains an unmet need. Among the plethora of proposed non-invasive biomarkers, circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) have been considered promising diagnostic molecules because they are very stable in biological fluids and easily detectable. Although the discovery of miRNAs has opened a new avenue for their clinical application, the clinical translatability of these molecules remains unclear. This review analyses the role of circulating miRNAs as BC diagnostic biomarkers and focuses on two essential requirements to evaluate their clinical validity: i) Specificity and ii) consistent expression between the blood and tissue. These two issues were analyzed in depth using the Human miRNA Disease Database (HMDD v3.0) and the free search engine PubMed. One hundred and sixty three BC-associated miRNAs were selected and analyzed for their specificity among all human pathologies that shared deregulation (291) and consistent expression in the bloodstream and the tissue. In addition, we provide an overview of the current clinical trials examining miRNAs in BC. In conclusion, we highlight pitfalls in the translatability of circulating miRNAs into clinical practice due to the lack of specificity and a consistent expression pattern between the tissue and blood.

Abstract:
Emergency Department (ED) congestion is a significant problem affecting clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction and hospital costs. Identifying and resolving bottlenecks in the flow of patients from the ED to eventual admission or discharge has the potential to reduce wait times, improve care for individual patients, and increase the volume of patients treated at the hospital over time. Our objective was to review methods commonly used to measure, analyze, and visualize patient flow, characterize drawbacks to these methods, and identify areas in which analysis and visualization can be improved to make bottlenecks easier to identify and resolve. Sixty-five articles obtained from PubMed and Google Scholar searches were reviewed to identify: (1) variables used to measure ED throughput; (2) downstream effects of ED congestion; (3) factors contributing to ED congestion; (4) techniques used to predict or respond to ED congestion; and (5) tools used to visualize data on ED throughput. Hospital resource availability, patient demographics, and environmental factors have all been used to predict contributors to ED congestion. Unfortunately, the hospital practices most critical to ED congestion are unlikely to change as they involve increasing the number of beds and providers or modifying protocols with EMS, insurance, and other care facilities. Therefore, interventions addressing optimization of ED resource allocation and visualization of ED data are the best avenue to yield more efficient ED operation.

Abstract:
Genomics has revolutionized biology, enabling the interrogation of whole transcriptomes, genome-wide binding sites for proteins, and many other molecular processes. However, individual genomic assays measure elements that interact in vivo as components of larger molecular machines. Understanding how these high-order interactions drive gene expression presents a substantial statistical challenge. Building on random forests (RFs) and random intersection trees (RITs) and through extensive, biologically inspired simulations, we developed the iterative random forest algorithm (iRF). iRF trains a feature-weighted ensemble of decision trees to detect stable, high-order interactions with the same order of computational cost as the RF. We demonstrate the utility of iRF for high-order interaction discovery in two prediction problems: enhancer activity in the early Drosophila embryo and alternative splicing of primary transcripts in human-derived cell lines. In Drosophila, among the 20 pairwise transcription factor interactions iRF identifies as stable (returned in more than half of bootstrap replicates), 80% have been previously reported as physical interactions. Moreover, third-order interactions, e.g., between Zelda (Zld), Giant (Gt), and Twist (Twi), suggest high-order relationships that are candidates for follow-up experiments. In human-derived cells, iRF rediscovered a central role of H3K36me3 in chromatin-mediated splicing regulation and identified interesting fifth- and sixth-order interactions, indicative of multivalent nucleosomes with specific roles in splicing regulation. By decoupling the order of interactions from the computational cost of identification, iRF opens additional avenues of inquiry into the molecular mechanisms underlying genome biology.

Abstract:
Introduction: Hepatoxicity is a well known adverse effect of pyrazinamide a commonly used anti tuberculous drug, with no certified remedy. Phytochemicals could be a possible avenue for hepatoprotection. Aims & Objectives: To study the hepatoprotective effect of Nigella sativa in low and high doses on PZA induced liver injury in mice. P lace and duration of study: The study was conducted from April 2017 to June 2017 at Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics & multidisciplinary research lab, Islamic International Medical College, Rawalpindi. Material & Methods: Sixty white albino mice (male) were divided into four groups randomly. Group A served as control group. Oral Pyrazinamide 500mg/kg/5ml glucose saline suspension was administered for 6 weeks to Group B (hepatotoxic group) alone and to Groups C and D in combination with Nigella sativa in a low dose of 500mg/kg and high dose of 1000mg/kg respectively. The extent of hepatotoxicity was determined by measurement of serum ALT, ALP and GGT. Results: PZA alone resulted in markedly elevated ALT, ALP and GGT (82.8, 319.1 and 37 U/L respectively) as compared to control group i.e (ALT=27.4U/L, ALP=96.4U/L, GGT=9.3U/L). In groups C and D a non-significant increase of biochemical markers i.e, (ALT=38.4±7.89U/L, ALP 185±39.74, GGT24.1±5.89 U/L) and (ALT=36.7U/L, ALP=93.5U/L, GGT=15.8U/L) respectively. Conclusion: Nigella sativa has hepatoprotective effects against PZA induced liver injury in both low and high doses.

Abstract:
Wireless magnetic sensor networks offer an attractive, low-cost alternative to inductive loops for traffic measurement in freeways and at intersections. In addition to providing vehicle count, occupancy, and speed, these sensors yield information (such as non-axle-based vehicle classification) that cannot be obtained from standard loop data. Because such networks can be deployed quickly, they can be used (and reused) for temporary traffic measurement. This paper reports the detection capabilities of magnetic sensors on the basis of two field experiments. The first experiment collected a 2-h trace of measurements on Hearst Avenue in Berkeley, California. The vehicle detection rate was better than 99% (100% for vehicles other than motorcycles), and estimates of average vehicle length and speed appear to have been better than 90%. The measurements also yield intervehicle spacing or headways, revealing interesting phenomena such as platoon formation downstream of a traffic signal. Results of the second experiment are preliminary. Sensor data from 37 passing vehicles at the same site are processed and classified into six types. Sixty percent of the vehicles are classified correctly when length is not used as a feature. The classification algorithm can be implemented in real time by the sensor node itself, in contrast to other methods based on high-scan-rate inductive loop signals, which require extensive off-line computation. It is believed that if length were used as a feature, 80% to 90% of vehicles would be correctly classified.

Abstract:
Objective: Determine the normal value of shoulder muscle strengh, in an adult population divided in six groups between 20 to 86 years, without known shoulder pathology. Materials and Methods: 523 individuals, 1046 shoulders, had their muscle strengh evaluated in two different positions, in 90 abduction and 90º fowarf flexion in the scapular plane. Three measurements were performed and the aveage one was recorded. Patiens with known shoulder pathology, reumathoid diseases, cancer were excluded. The patients were divided in six groups according to age, from 20 to 29 (68 patients), 30 to 39 (92 patients), 40 to 49 (109 patients), 50 to 59 (103 patients), 60 to 69 (91 patients) and 70 to 90 (60 patients). The strengh eas measured in pounds. Results: Average mucle strengh was 17,64 at the scapular plane and 16,82 lb at 90ª (p<0,0001)For the right shoulder, the average muscle strengh of the second decade group was 22 lb at scapular plane and 20,73 at 90º. The third decade was 19,93 and 18,50 respectively. The fouth decade values were 20,45 and 19,58, on the fifth decade 17,83 and 17,07. On the sixth decade was 15,57 and 15,23 and for the seventh decade was 11,40 and 11 lb respectively. The values for the left shoulder were for the second decade 21,53 om the scapular plane and 20,53 at 90º. On the third decade were 19,33 and 18,17, on the fourth decade 19,62 and 18,95, on the fifth decade were 16,8 and 16,2 , on the sixth decade 15,57 and 15,23. And for the final group 11,4 and 11 lb. Significant differences were seen between both shoulders ,sex (p<0,0001), position of the arm at time of measure (p0,0001), dominace (p0,001) Conclusion: The objective measurement of the muscle strengh of the shoulder varies significantly with age, sex and position of the arm at time of measure, putting in dout the validity of the contralateral shoulder as a value to compare against.

Abstract:
Background: Psychosocial stress, have been implicated as risk indicators for periodontal disease. Minimal evidence in literature exists to assess the effect of stress reduction therapy (SRT) in the outcome of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT).Objective: Hence, we aimed to explore the possibility of employing SRT in stressed patients as an adjunctive intervention in the management NSPT.Materials and Methods: Sixty male patients divided into Group 1 comprised of 20 unstressed chronic periodontitis patients receiving non-surgical periodontal therapy alone, Group 2a (20 stressed chronic periodontitis patients) received intervention focused on SPT with NSPT and Group 2b (20 stressed chronic periodontitis patients) received only NSPT without SPT. Their stress level was evaluated using a standard questionnaire method and salivary cortisol levels, at baseline and 3 months along with periodontal parameters. Results: There was significant reduction in stress parameters for Group 2a patients. The reduction of total periodontitis affected sites was highest in Group I patients (55.4%), followed by Group 2a patients (53.2%) and Group 2b patients (38%).Conclusion: SRT may result in comparable treatment outcome to unstressed chronic periodontitis patients. This study opens new avenues to investigate the effects of stress management as an adjunctive to conventional NSPT, which should be explored further.
