Abstract:
La région charnière est une courte séquence des chaînes lourdes (H) d’anticorps liant le Fab (fragment antigen binding) au Fc (fragment crystallisable). Les propriétés fonctionnelles des quatre sous-classes d’immunoglobulines d’isotype G (IgG) résultent en partie des différences de séquence de leurs régions charnières. En effet, certains acides aminés de la partie C-terminale de ces régions charnières (« partie basse ») sont situés au sein ou à proximité des sites de liaison de la molécule C1q de la voie classique du complément et des récepteurs pour la région Fc des IgG (RFcγ) sur les chaînes H d’IgG. Les régions charnières sont également sensibles au clivage protéolytique par de nombreuses protéases du microenvironnement tumoral et/ou inflammatoire pouvant altérer les réponses fonctionnelles. Le format optimal de la charnière reste donc un défi majeur pour le développement de nouveaux anticorps thérapeutiques.

Abstract:
Une enquête séroépidémiologique, réalisée sur 789 équidés (400 élevés au Nord-Est de la Tunisie, 389 dans la région du Sahel et du Centre), a permis de détecter, par le test de fixation du complément, des anticorps spécifiques contre le virus de la rhinopneumonie équine. Les résultats ont montré que 15 équidés (1,9 %) étaient séropositifs, avec des taux variables d'anticorps fixant le complément. Ces résultats sont discutés en relation avec ceux obtenus par d'autres auteurs en Tunisie et dans les pays voisins.

Abstract:
Les Encéphalopathies Spongiformes Transmissibles (EST) sont des maladies neurodégénératives caractérisées par l’accumulation dans le cerveau d’une forme anormale de la protéine prion, la PrP. La PrP cellulaire est une glycoprotéine membranaire qui a deux sites de glycosylation. La susceptibilité des moutons à la tremblante, la plus répandue des EST, est sous le contrôle d’un polymorphisme génétique en position 136, 154 et 171 de la protéine PrP. Différents travaux ont montré que l’efficacité de la conversion de la PrP normale (PrPc) en PrP anormale (PrPsc) pouvait être influencée à la fois par son degré de glycosylation et par sa séquence primaire en acides aminés. Au cours de notre travail de production d’anticorps monoclonaux dirigés contre la PrP ovine, nous avons obtenu de nouveaux anticorps discriminants les différentes formes glycosylées de la PrP. Parmi ces anticorps, nous avons montré que certains présentent une affinité différentielle vis-à-vis des allèles de la PrP, essentiellement en position 171. Cette position est connue pour jouer un rôle majeur dans le contrôle de la résistance (Arginine, R171) et de la sensibilité (Glutamine, Q171) des moutons à la tremblante. Ces anticorps représentent de nouveaux outils pour étudier la relation entre le niveau de glycosylation de la PrPc et sa capacité à être convertie en PrPsc. Ils nous permettront également une analyse plus fine du profil électrophorétique des différentes glycoformes de la PrP anormale dans le cadre du typage de souches de prions. Enfin, ces anticorps peuvent être utilisés pour le génotypage rapide des moutons en vue d’une sélection d’animaux résistants à la tremblante et pour la compréhension des bases moléculaires de la résistance à la tremblante conférée par la présence de l’Arginine en position 171 de la PrP.

Abstract:
Le récepteur β-adrénergique des érythrocites de dinde a été identifié et caractérisé par deux approches, l'une biochimique et l'autre immunochimique et des nouveaux outils ont été développés pour l'étude des relations structure-fonction du récepteur. Le récepteur β-adrénergique des membranes d'érythrocites de dinde a été identifié par le ligand photoactivable iodocyanopindolol-diazirine marqué à l'iode 125. Deux polypeptides de masse moléculaire apparente 50kDa et 42kDa ont été marqués de manière spécifique. Le polypeptide de 42kDa provient du polypeptide de 50kDa par une protéolyse qui s'accompagne de la perte de la chaine glycosylée située sur l'extrémité N-terminale de la forme 50 kDa. Après solubilisation par la digitonine, le polypeptide de 42kDa a été purifié à homogénéité en deux étapes : par chromatographie d'affinité sur un gel où a été immobilisé l'antagoniste alprénolol, puis par électroélution d'un gel de polyacrylamide. Le site de fixation du ligand photoactivable iodocyanopindolol-diazirine a pu être localisé dans la région contenant les domaines transmembranaires VI et VII et serait un résidu acide aspartique. Des anticorps ont été produits contre les récepteurs β-adrénergiques. Après immunisation avec du récepteur β₁-adrénergique partiellement purifié à partir des érythrocites de dinde, un anticorps monoclonal a été sélectionné; celui-ci immunoprécipite le récepteur marqué par affinité et reconnait le récepteur en immunoempreinte. Il semble dirigé contre un épitote intramembranaire ou cytoplasmique. Après la détermination des séquences des récepteurs β₁-adrénergiques de dinde et des récepteurs β₁ et β₂-adrénergiques humains, des anticorps ont été produits contre des peptides synthétiques dérivés de ces séquences. Ces peptides sont situés sur des boucles intra-ou extracellulaires d'après le modèle de repliement transmembranaire des récepteurs β-adrénergiques qui a été proposé d'après le profil d'hydropathicité de ces protéines. Ces anticorps reconnaissent les récepteurs entiers dénaturés. Les anticorps dirigés contre la deuxième boucle extra-cellulaire du récepteur β₁-adrénergique humain interfèrent avec la liaison du ligand agoniste isoprotérénol sur le récepteur. Ces anticorps anti-peptides, ainsi que le marquage par affinité, ont été utilisés pour caractériser les récepteurs β-adrénergiques exprimés dans la bactérie Escherichia coli après fusion des génes codant pour les récepteurs β-adrénergiques avec le gène lamB codant pour la protéine de la membrane externe de la bactérie LamB. Ainsi ont également pu être localisés la protéine de fusion et le récepteur actif dans les différents compartiments cellulaires de la bactérie.

Abstract:
Les anticorps catalytiques associent les propriétés de reconnaissance des anticorps aux propriétés de catalyse des enzymes. Différentes approches ont été envisagées pour leur faire mimer les enzymes : analogues d'états de transition, copie du site actif par le réseau idiotypique, ingénierie des protéines. De nombreuses enzymes s'associent avec des métaux pour assurer leurs fonctions. Le zinc est un élément intéressant dans ce cas car retrouvé dans plus de 300 enzymes. Ces sites de fixation étant bien caractérisés, ils ont pu semir de modèle en biotechnologie dans l'ingénierie des protéines. L'approche que nous proposons est basée sur la biosynthèse de nove du site de fixation du zinc catalique. Pour cela, nous nous appuyons sur les règles de reconnaissance de l'IDA-Zn (Il) par les protéines (IMAC). L'immunisation d'un animal contre l'IDA-Zn(ll) devrait produire des anticorps présentant au niveau de leur paratope une structure de ligands capable de fixer un ion métallique dans une conformation catalytique. Pour développer ce type d'anticorps, une nouvelle méthode ELISA a d'abord été développée. L'utilisation d'un présentateur dIhaptène non protéique (le PEG bifonctionalisé) nous permet d'éviter toute réaction croisée avec la protéine de trans ort utilisée pour l'immunisation. Les anticorps anti-IDA-Zn(ll) ont ensuite été réalisés selon deux tech¬niques. D'abord la méthode des hybridomes nous a permis d'isoler à partir de 1152 clones 14 clones présentant de bonnes affinités. Ensuite, le répertoire immunologique de la souris immunisée contre l'IDA-Zn(ll) a été exprimé en banque de phages (banque de scFv). L'avantage d'une telle banque réside dans l'expression de tout le répertoire immunologique de la souris immunisée, ce qui offre la possibilité de "screener" des spécificités plus vastes vis-à-vis d'autres métaux, chélates métalliques ou d'autres antigènes. Enfin, la production de ces anticorps anti-chélate métallique à grande échelle nous a fait apparaître la nécessité de développer une méthode de purification douce, respectueuse de la structure tridimensionnelle des anticorps. Une méthode, faisant appel au ligand pseudobiospécifique l'histidine, a été développée au laboratoire. Pour valider son utilisation aux anticorps catalytiques, nous avons décidé de l'appliquer à la purification des anticorps catalytiques naturels présents dans le sérum des malades afteints de maladies auto-immunes. Les résultats sont comparés avec les méthodes classiques protéine A et protéine G, en termes de pureté des fractions et d'activité catalytique.

Abstract:
Les sites de fixation des facteurs de transcription ou éléments régulateurs sont impliqués dans la régulation de l'expression des gènes. Une meilleure connaissance de l'architecture des promoteurs est aujourd'hui accessible via l'annotation des génomes et les données transcriptomiques. Certains éléments régulateurs sont conservés à une position préférentielle dans les promoteurs. Chez A. thaliana, nous avons mis au point une approche pour caractériser de tels motifs. Ce travail a permis de proposer une cartographie des promoteurs en identifiant 5105 motifs caractérisés par une sur-représentation locale dans les promoteurs proximaux. L'étude du promoteur central où est observée la boîte TATA, élément régulateur conservé entre eucaryotes, a été approfondie. Une liste de 15 variants fonctionnels de la boîte TATA a été identifiée, ainsi qu'une nouvelle classe d'éléments régulateurs qui sont caractérisés par des mêmes contraintes topologiques que la boîte TATA : les motifs-TC. Ils sont conservés chez A. thaliana et le riz, Oryza sativa, mais absents chez les mammifères. Les 18% de gènes d'A. thaliana contenant un motif-TC ont tendance à être exprimés dans des conditions expérimentales spécifiques. Ces éléments pourraient participer à la régulation de l'expression des gènes. L'étude de l'élément initiateur YR chez A. thaliana a mis en évidence une extension de ces 4 dinucléotides dans l'UTR 5'. Des associations entre ces éléments régulateurs peuvent montrer une collaboration fonctionnelle. La recherche de caractéristiques fonctionnelles communes aux gènes possédant une même organisation d'éléments régulateurs pourra permettre de contribuer à l'annotation fonctionnelle de ces éléments.

Abstract:
L'exploitation des propriétés d'image interne des anticorps anti-idiotypes nous a permis d'obtenir des anticorps catalytiques (abzymes) par une approche réellement enzymologique. L'anticorps monoclonal 9A8 a été sélectionné contre l'anticorps monoclonal AE2, dirigé lui-même contre le site actif de l'acétylcholinestérase de l'érythrocyte humain. Selon la théorie du réseau idiotypique, l'anticorps monoclonal 9A8 représente l'image interne du site actif de l'acétylcholinestérase. L'hydrolyse de l'acétylthiocholine par l'anticorps monoclonal 9A8 présente un comportement cinétique de type michaëlien. La valeur de la constante catalytique (kcat égal 81 s 1) est plus faible que celle de l'enzyme naturelle alors que la valeur de la constante michaëlienne (Km égal 0,6 mM) est plus élevée. Cependant le taux d'accélération (kcat/kuncat égal 4,15 X 10) est plus élève que dans le cas des anticorps catalytiques obtenus par la voie des analogues d'état de transition. Par ailleurs, l'anticorps monoclonal 9A8 représente une spécificité relâchée vis à vis des substrats et inhibiteurs connus des estérases. Cette approche anti-idiotypique permet également d'étudier différentes copies structurales et fonctionnelles du site actif de la même enzyme afin de pouvoir étudier les relations structure fonction. De plus, la production d'anticorps anti-idiotypes à partir des enzymes modifiées chimiquement au niveau de leur site actif permet d'obtenir des copies protéiques des catalyseurs mais possédant une nouvelle activité enzymatique.

Abstract:
The effects of genetic drift usually assume an idealized population of constant size. This chapter shows how the population size for such an idealized population can be replaced with an effective population size for populations with age structure, unequal sex ratios, a history of expansion or contraction, inbreeding, and population subdivision. These demographic features impact the entire genome more or less equally. A relatively recent understanding is that selection at a site can dramatically reduce the local effective population size experienced by nearby linked sites (the Hill-Robertson effect). This can arise from background selection to remove deleterious new mutations or from selective sweeps wherein favorable new mutations are driven toward fixation. The Hill-Robertson effect is a general way to describe the fact that selection at a site makes selection are other linked sites less efficient, and, therefore, more neutral. This chapter discusses the implications of this finding for genome structure.

Abstract:
Language education policies are pivotal in nation-states’ negotiation of a globalizing economy and a diversifying population. But certainly in urban, non-elite schools, where pupils’ linguistic diversity is pronounced, the fixation on language separation and multi-monolingualism produces salient sites of linguistic friction. Much scholarly work has successfully problematized this friction, producing an avalanche of criticism and ample calls for changes in schools’ approach to pupils’ primary linguistic skills and mixed language use. This chapter argues that while such calls are pedagogically exciting and justified on principle, a significant number of them reproduce some of the main assumptions behind the policies that they denounce, or invite problems of their own. Consequently, many calls for change may underestimate the difficulties of policy implementation, exaggerate their own effects, and overstate their critical character. This necessitates a reconsideration of the received relation between sociolinguistics and language education policy, and a revision of reform initiatives.

Abstract:
This chapter deals with the kind of revolution France was undergoing during the Siege, and particularly how the book publishing industry—which created more lasting, less ephemeral literature than other sites of production—conceptualized this revolutionary moment. Publishers tended to look towards the past, rather than the future, to find their way out of the political instability of the Siege. Incarnated in the revival of the eighteenth-century libelle, the fixation on the perceived crimes of previous governments created an artificial revolution in print, one in which future change seemed unnecessary. This was a decidedly anti-revolutionary politics that attempted to build complacency rather than incite action. To make a break with the past, to turn public opinion against the politics of the Second Empire that had just fallen, Parisian publishers turned to the etymological definition of publication: to make matters public. The Siege saw the publication of hundreds of books that claimed to expose secrets and shed light on lies. The accusatory publications of the Siege exposed the crimes, both real and imagined, of the Second Empire.

Abstract:
The distal radius is a common site of fracture with volar plates and screws as the current clinical practice for fracture fixation [1]. Local measurements of bone quality at the sites of screw insertion aid in providing the most stable fixation with the least amount of hardware, minimizing the risk of construct failure and irritation to soft tissue [2, 3]. The clinical standard for pre-operative bone mineral density (BMD) assessment uses dual x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). However, DEXA scans provide global BMD values and cannot accurately predict variations in BMD within a given anatomical site [4]. Furthermore, patients frequently present without a pre-operative DEXA scan, so intra-operative assessment would be ideal. We developed a simple sensor system that would be appropriate for assessing local BMD intra-operatively. The system consists of a “smart” Weber clamp instrumented with a single uniaxial strain gage that provides real-time feedback regarding the local BMD.

Abstract:
Localized adhesion of peripheral blood leukocytes to the vessel wall is an essential component of inflammatory reactions. There is increasing experimental evidence that vascular endothelial cells play an active role in this process. Our laboratory has been especially interested in defining endothelial-dependent mechanisms of leukocyte adhesion, and the role of leukocyte products in their modulation. We have reported1 that purified natural human monocyte-derived interleukin 1 (IL-1) can act directly on cultured human endothelial cells (HEC) to dramatically increase the adhesiveness of their surfaces for human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN), monocytes and the related cell lines HL-60 and U937. This effect was concentration-, time- (onset≅30 min; peak≅4h) , and protein/RNA-synthesis-requiring, and, in selective pretreatment/fixation experiments, was shown to be mediated primarily through the endothelial cell. To better define this inducible endothelial pro-adhesive mechanism, we have developed a series of murine monoclonal antibodies directed against monokine-stimulated HEC surfaces. One of these antibodies (H4/18) recognizes an endothelial cell surface structure which is induced by IL-1 (and certain other cytokines)2 in a similar fashion (kinetics, concentration - dependence, sensitivity to metabolic inhibitors) as the pro-adhesive surface change for leukocytes. H4/18 partially blocks HD-60 cell adhesion to monokine-treated HEC, and, in vivo, labels human vascular endothelium at sites of experimental delayed hypersensitivity reactions4. A second monoclonal antibody (H18/7)5 significantly blocks the adhesion of both HL-60 cells and PMN to monokine-treated HEC. Monoclonal antibodies H4/18 and H18/7 appear to recognize the same inducible surface structure as assessed by immunoprecipitation of extracts of metabolically labeled, monokine-stimulated HEC. We have designated this monokine-inducible, endothelial-leukocyte adhesion molecule "E-IAM 1". IL-1 treated HEC cultures (in contrast to sham-treated control cultures) generate a soluble leukocyte adhesion inhibitor (LAI)6,7. LAI acts on PMN to inhibit their adhesion to hyperadhesive endothelial monolayers as well as to serum-coated plastic surfaces, but does not inhibit PMN activation by chemotactic stimuli (LTB4, f-met-leu-phe). IAI appears to differentially inhibit adhesion of peripheral blood leukocytes, isolated from the same donor, to hyperadhesive HEC (PMN > monocytes; lymphocytes, no effect), and does not inhibit HL-60 cell-HEC adhesion. Endothelial production of IAI is time-dependent (peak 5-6 h.), and blocked by cycloheximide but not by aspirin. Preliminary characterization indicates that LAI is nonsedimentable (250,000 xg, 45 min), nondialyzable (>10 kD), stable to heat (80°C, 30 min) and acid (pH 2) and is precipitable by ammonium sulphate (60-80% saturation). Thus, this endothelial-derived inhibitory activity, which appears to be distinct from PGI2 or other cyclooxygenase products, blocks leukocyte adhesion without globally suppressing leukocyte function. Further characterization of the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating the endothelial expression of E-LAM 1 and LAI should contribute to our understanding of the active role of the vascular wall in the inflammatory process.1. Abstract:
Abstract The testing begun in the framework of the CEC project ECP-4 “Decontamination technologies and strategies” have allowed to develop and to test new technology of the polluted soils decontamination by removal of the thin turf layer by the vibrating blade of the special machine (Turf-Cutter). The experiments were conducted at the radioactively contaminated soils of Ukraine and Belarus during 1992–2000. The machine “TURF HARVESTER” (USA) was used in the experiment. The first testing of the method was conducted on the well turfed radioecological polygon “Buryakovka”, 4 km from the Chernobyl NPP, with levels of contamination: 100 Ci/km2 by Cs-137, 80 Ci/km2 by Sr-90, 7 Ci/km2 by Pu-239. As the preliminary researches have shown, about 95% of the radionuclides were concentrated in the upper layer of the unploughed soil. In an outcome of tests on a selected plot the decontamination factor (Fd) 25–40 for different radionuclides was obtained. After removal of turf and opening the soil surface, the wind soil erosion and secondary resuspension the radionuclides was expect. It has not taken place, as special researches on an evaluation of the wind resuspension of radionuclides by the soil particles after the turf harvesting. This can be explained as follows. The vibrating blade does not decondence and decompose the soil layer remaining. At the same time, the thin turf and soil layer removal saves the vegetation regenerating organs and roots, which allows the grass restoration and surface fixation within one month after the experiment. The second test of a method was conducted on a polygon “Chistogalovka”, 3 km of the NPP. A high level of the radioactive contamination (150 Ci/km2 by Cs-137) and the weak turf cover of the rugged sand surface characterized the polygon. The turf removal at this polygon has allowed to receive Df = 10–15. Another testing was made at the Belorussian part of the Zone, which have demonstrated the possibility of the selected turf removal under the spotty radioactive contamination. The field gamma-spectrometer “Corad”, produced by the Kurchatov Institute (Russia), was used for the operative definition the highly contaminated spots. The selected removal of the mostly contaminated spots decreased the mass of the turf removed by 70%, obtaining the Df = 5–7. Next testing was conducted at the village Miliach (Rivne Province, Dubrovitsa district, Ukraine) at the pasture “Stav” with the contamination level by Cs-137 about 5 Ci/km2. This pasture was not influenced by any post-accident countermeasures. After the radioactive turf removal (Df = 15–20), the fodder grass was sow. The grass contamination was 15 times less, comparing to the control. The experimental fattening of 10 cows by a grass, skewed on the decontaminated plot, within 10 days, was carried on. A comparison the contamination of the milk from the experimental cows, which were fed by a grass of the turf-harvested plot, and the milk of the control cows, has shown the milk Df about 11 in 1993. The data obtained show high efficiency of the decontamination technology for the polluted soils based on the turf removal by the vibrating blade. Decontamination factor about 7–15 for the sandy and dusty-sandy soils with a weak turf layer up to 20–40 for the organic and wet silty soils with a strong turf layer was obtained. Important thing is, the best Dfs were obtained for the soils, which are critical on the intensity of the root uptake of the radionuclides. The high ecological and radioecological safety of the Turf-Cutter technology of the soil decontamination is also to be considered. The thin turf and soil layer removal does not deteriorate dramatically the migration situation and at the same time does not avoid the damaged ecosystem self-restoration. The volume of the matter harvested is comparatively low, because of the thin cutting. Being stored in the walls 2,5 m height, it occupies less 5% of the territory decontaminated, and the risk of migration the radionuclides outside the storage sites is comparative to those of the primary soil layouts. The field testing of the Turf-Cutter technology show correlation of its efficacy to the soil types, vegetation cover and the landscape conditions of the contaminated territory. It allowed, using some elements of the GIS-technologies and cartographic modeling, to prepare special evaluation and zonification the territories contaminated on the efficacy of the Turf-Cutter technology, and to identify the areas best for it’s mostly effective application. Following investigations confirm stable, long-term character of the improvements carried out. The sampling of 2000 at Miliach experimental plot shows the decontamination factor 10–11 for the grass and about 8 for milk. Moreover, as the Cs-137 still remains at the upper part of the soil profile, the Turf-Cutter technology is still actual for the territories of the post-Chernobyl radioactive contamination. Obviously, it can be suitable also for the removal of any other surface pollutant from the soil.

Abstract:
The sweet potato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) is a major pest of vegetables, field crops, and ornamentals worldwide. This species harbors a diverse assembly of facultative, “secondary” bacterial symbionts, the roles of which are largely unknown. We documented a spectacular sweep of one of these, Rickettsia, in the Southwestern United States in the B biotype (=MEAM1) of B. tabaci, from 1% to 97% over 6 years, as well as a dramatic fitness benefit associated with it in Arizona but not in Israel. Because it is critical to understand the circumstances in which a symbiont invasion can cause such a large change in pest life history, the following objectives were set: 1) Determine the frequency of Rickettsia in B. tabaci in cotton across the United States and Israel. 2) Characterize Rickettsia and B. tabaci genotypes in order to test the hypothesis that genetic variation in either partner is responsible for differences in phenotypes seen in the two countries. 3) Determine the comparative fitness effects of Rickettsia phenotypes in B. tabaci in Israel and the United States. For Obj. 1, a survey of B. tabaci B samples revealed the distribution of Rickettsia across the cotton-growing regions of 13 sites from Israel and 22 sites from the USA. Across the USA, Rickettsia frequencies were heterogeneous among regions, but were generally at frequencies higher than 75% and close to fixation in some areas, whereas in Israel the infection rates were lower and declining. The distinct outcomes of Rickettsia infection in these two countries conform to previouslyreported phenotypic differences. Intermediate frequencies in some areas in both countries may indicate a cost to infection in certain environments or that the frequencies are in flux. This suggests underlying geographic differences in the interactions between bacterial symbionts and the pest. Obj. 2, Sequences of several Rickettsia genes in both locations, including a hypervariableintergenic spacer gene, suggested that the Rickettsia genotype is identical in both countries. Experiments in the US showed that differences in whitefly nuclear genotype had a strong influence on Rickettsia phenotype. Obj. 3. Experiments designed to test for possible horizontal transmission of Rickettsia, showed that these bacteria are transferred from B. tabaci to a plant, moved inside the phloem, and could be acquired by other whiteflies. Plants can serve as a reservoir for horizontal transmission of Rickettsia, a mechanism that may explain the occurrence of phylogenetically-similarsymbionts among unrelated phytophagous insect species. This plant-mediated transmission route may also exist in other insect-symbiont systems, and since symbionts may play a critical role in the ecology and evolution of their hosts, serve as an immediate and powerful tool for accelerated evolution. However, no such horizontal transmission of Rickettsia could be detected in the USA, underlining the difference between the interaction in both countries, or between B. tabaci and the banded wing whitefly on cotton in the USA (Trialeurodes sp. nr. abutiloneus) and the omnivorous bug Nesidiocoristenuis. Additionally, a series of experiments excluded the possibility that Rickettsia is frequently transmitted between B. tabaci and its parasitoid wasps Eretmocerusmundus and Encarsiapergandiella. Lastly, ecological studies on Rickettsia effects on free flight of whiteflies showed no significant influence of symbiont infection on flight. In contrast, a field study of the effects of Rickettsia on whitefly performance on caged cotton in the USA showed strong fitness benefits of infection, and rapid increases in Rickettsia frequency in competition population cages. This result confirmed the benefits to whiteflies of Rickettsia infection in a field setting.
