Di, Tore Pio Alfredo. "IKeWYSe - I Know What You See." Doctoral thesis, Universita degli studi di Salerno, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10556/1980.
Full textThe project presents a research on perspective taking, aimed to investigate two specific themes: the age when the child leaves perceptive egocentrism, and gender differences in the management of spatial reference systems. The innovative contribution of this work is that it has addressed the issue with a not abused tool for this field: the videogame. The first product of the project was, therefore, a video game prototype, named IKeWYSE, which has been the data collecting instrument for the experimental research project. The paper presents a quick historical overview on the concepts of space, perception and action, introducing the concept of Umwelt, then addresses the issue of the representation of space in the child, from Piaget to neurosciences, describing the reference systems competing in the representation of space and the Piagetian conceptual framework, and reporting the scientific debate on the "three mountains task" and the spatial theory of empathy. Once described the conceptual framework, the text presents the research design, the path for design and development of the videogame, the methods for data collection and discusses the results obtained. Finally, the experimental process has led to observe how the cognitive processes involved in peculiar orienteering activities (map reading, route selection, spatial thinking) are processes also involved in the management of inter-subjective relationship modes, and make the orienteering a sport with great potential in terms of teaching. The final part of the text develops describing orienteering as a sport, stressing the connections with current national guidelines for the first cycle of education, and, in the light of the review of the scientific literature on cognitive processes involved in spatial navigation and management of spatial reference systems, it concludes with a proposal for the spread of orienteering as effective teaching practice in an educational context oriented to inclusion of pupils presenting Special Educational Needs. Full textThe question "What is space?" has always been a central topic for philosophy, and a closely linked crucial question becomes of interest for cognitive psychology and neuroscience, that is "Where am I?" The efforts to answer these two questions are means to better understanding of the complex relation between the outer and the inner space, which is the final goal of this work. The idea is that that our bodily position in the world strongly affects the way in which we encode, store and retrieve a spatial layout. Moreover, this spatial layout serves as a scaffold, binding all the information of our past, present, future and body-related experiences. Within an enactive approach, it is suggested that this continuous synchronization (namely, the “mental frame syncing”) of an allocentric viewpoint-independent representation (i.e. including only abstract object-to-object relations) and an allocentric viewpoint-dependent representation (i.e. comprising information about our current heading) may permit to place current bodily position in the “memorized space" making easy the translation of it into a “lived space” that it is needed to navigate, remember the past and feel the body. On these theoretical premises, four experimental studies will be presented to investigate the role of mental frame syncing as an alignment principle centred on observer the processes of encoding and retrieval of information

Full textThe geodetic reference systems, and the related frames, constitute the basic structure that allows to compare geometric representations of the earth acquired by different surveys. The last century has seen a continuous evolution in the definition of geodetic frames, mainly due to new needs, and possibilities, introduced by the space geodesy techniques. Are changed the scale of the problem, the precision of the measurements and the required accuracies, and also the approaches and definitions. The requirement of a global reference system has imposed the definition of dynamic frames, which follow the evolution of the earth's crust as a whole, so the need for introducing a time coordinate in addition to usual geometric coordinates. The dynamic nature of the Earth involves variations in time of coordinates, when expressed in the global reference system, too quick to be handled in mapping applications on a continental / national scale. So it was necessary the definition of other reference systems, linked to the tectonic plates. Thus, fundamental are the transformation parameters needed to switch from regional systems to global systems, and vice versa. In this thesis the topic of the monitoring of dynamic reference frames has been addressed, in particular the Italian Rete Dinamica Nazionale. The matter of the high residual ETRS velocities that characterize the Italian peninsula has been addressed, and a new ad hoc reference system was defined. The calculation technique of Precise Point Positioning has been investigated, both from the geodetic point of view, addressing the strategies to align the coordinates in the global system, than from the point of view of technical surveys. Finally, the geodetic networks of the Emilia-Romagna Region were analyzed, evaluating their importance in the age of GNSS.

Full textThe PhD research concerns the reconstruction of population dynamics in Northern Italy during the Bronze Age, through the analysis of subsistence strategies within the human-environment interaction and the analysis of the modalities of economic management inside the social system. The research was dedicated to the analysis of anthropic factors involved in subsistence activities: acquisition of plant and animal resources, craft production and description of the basic elements for producing food. In Chapter 1, the state of research on the management of economic systems and ancient food was dealt with particular reference to the Bronze Age in northern Italy, accompanied by a synthetic archaeological framework and a discussion on the study of demography and ancient economy. In Chapter 2 the documentation of plant resources is analyzed, with the collection of published archaeobotanical data with particular regard to cereal production and its relationship with population dynamics. Particular attention was given to the comparison of archaeological data, ethnographic observations and results of archaeological experiments related to ancient crops. Chapter 3 deals with the documentation of animal resources, presenting the archaeological data and comparing them with the examination of farming practices, in order to acquire new data on the diet based on animal proteins, through the consumption of meat, milk and derivates. In Chapter 4 we attempted to deepen the relationship between the production of resources and human food needs, with a general assessment of the relationship between caloric intake and the subsistence of a certain number of individuals. In Chapter 5 we examined the theme of how to prepare food through the study of the artefacts and structures used in the transformation of foods. The conclusions summarizes a comprehension of resource management systems and an analysis of the effect on population, highlighting the ways of interaction between community, environment and resources.
