Abstract:
In this work, we study the growth features, as well as the structural and optical properties of CaSi2 layers formed in the process of successive deposition of Si and CaF2 on a Si (111) substrate with simultaneous irradiation with high energy electron beam. The Raman spectra recorded in the regions of the electron beam action showed peaks characteristic of crystalline CaSi2 layers. The study of the surface morphology of the grown structures demonstrated that, under the chosen synthesis conditions, the formation of CaSi2 layers during electron irradiation occurs according to a two-dimensional layer mechanism. The photoluminescence spectra measured in the region modified by the electron beam have significant differences from the spectra measured outside this region.

Abstract:
Protein biosynthesis is inherently coupled to cotranslational protein folding. Folding of the nascent chain already occurs during synthesis and is mediated by spatial constraints imposed by the ribosomal exit tunnel as well as self-interactions. The polypeptide’s vectorial emergence from the ribosomal tunnel establishes the possible folding pathways leading to its native tertiary structure. How cotranslational protein folding and the rate of synthesis are linked to a protein’s amino acid sequence is still not well defined. Here, we follow synthesis by individual ribosomes using dual-trap optical tweezers and observe simultaneous folding of the nascent polypeptide chain in real time. We show that observed stalling during translation correlates with slowed peptide bond formation at successive proline sequence positions and electrostatic interactions between positively charged amino acids and the ribosomal tunnel. We also determine possible cotranslational folding sites initiated by hydrophobic collapse for an unstructured and two globular proteins while directly measuring initial cotranslational folding forces. Our study elucidates the intricate relationship among a protein’s amino acid sequence, its cotranslational nascent-chain elongation rate, and folding.

Abstract:
The doped quantum dots (QDs) that feature dual emission in one nanocrystal and long fluorescence lifetime have gained great interest in biosensing and bioimaging applications. In this work, we report the synthesis and functionalization of copper ion-doped indium phosphate (Cu:InP) QDs that exhibit simultaneous green InP emission and red Cu[Formula: see text] emission. The oil-soluble QDs were synthesized by adsorbing Cu[Formula: see text] onto InP core, followed by growing zinc selenide (ZnSe) shell via the successive ion layer adsorption reaction. During the synthesis, fluorescence ratiometry (and resultant multiple fluorescence colors) can be generated by changing either the dopant amount or the shell-growth time, but they act in a different manner: increasing the Cu[Formula: see text] amount results in quenched InP emission and oppositely improved Cu[Formula: see text] emission; the increase of shell-growth time leads to continuously improved Cu[Formula: see text] emission relative to constant InP emission. Further, functionalization of the oil-soluble Cu:InP QDs with dihydrolipoic acid-polyethylene glycol (DHLA-PEG) via ligand exchange produces the water-soluble and biocompatible dual-emission QDs. The PEGylated Cu:InP QDs present desirable charge neutrality and excellent thermal stability and photostability, thereby holding high potential in a diversity of biomedical applications.

Abstract:
In India, the worst problem is population. In day-by-day it is increasing along with that construction sites or buildings also increase. This is affected to the free space. For doing the construction people cuts the trees and finishes the forest. People also occupy the place which is reserve for the waste management. So that we are doing the project on Solid waste management. There are various methods to manage the waste. In our project we use the technique called Pyrolysis. In pyrolysis process consist of both simultaneous and successive reactions when carbon rich organic material is heated in a non-reactive atmosphere. Pyrolysis is the thermal degradation of organic materials in the absence of oxygen. The main products obtained from pyrolysis of municipal wastes are a high calorific value gas (synthesis gas or syngas), a biofuel (bio-oil or pyrolysis oil) and a solid residue (char). Pyrolysis can be performed at relatively small-scale which may help in reducing transport costs and handling costs.

Abstract:
In the present study, it is demonstrated that cloned surface IgM-positive human B cells can be induced to proliferate and to switch with high frequencies to IgG4 and IgE production after a contact-mediated signal provided by T cell clones and interleukin 4 (IL-4). This T cell signal is antigen nonspecific and is provided by activated CD4+ cells, whereas activated CD8+ or resting CD4+ T cell clones are ineffective. 15-35% of the B cell clones cultured with cloned CD4+ T cells and IL-4 produced antibodies; 35-45% of those wells in which antibodies were produced contained IgE and IgG4. In addition to B cell clones that produced IgG4 or IgE only, B cell clones producing multiple isotypes were observed. Simultaneous production of IgG4 and IgE, IgM, IgE, and IgM, or IgG4 and IgE was detected, suggesting that during clonal expansion switching might occur in successive steps from IgM to IgG4 and IgE. In addition, production of only IgM, IgG4, and IgE during clonal expansion indicates that this isotype switching is directed by the way a B cell is stimulated and that it is not a stochastic process.

Abstract:
There has been a growing interest and practical importance in producing implants such as artificial joints, bone fixators and spinal fixators with titanium. In order to achieve good bone/implant fixation while avoiding the problem of bone absorption, it is mandatory to reduce the Young’s modulus of titanium while keeping the high strength so as to achieve the compatibility in these mechanical properties with human cortical bone. We have tried to fabricate porous titanium with directional pores by the use of the method based on Selective Laser Melting (SLM), in which complex three-dimensional parts even containing designed shapes of pores can be produced by sintering successive thin layers of metal powder with a laser beam. Here we show that porous titanium with directional pores aligned in the longitudinal direction of the ingot is successfully produced through the use of the SLM process and that high strength and low modulus comparable to those of human bone are simultaneously achieved when these properties are measured in the longitudinal direction of the ingot.

Full text
Abstract:
The difficulties connected with the idea of synthesis do not originate with the fact that as soon as he starts to elucidate the laws that have been formulated in general terms, Schoenberg postulates a musical space that only has two dimensions, the horizontal and the vertical. The scientific origin of these concepts could tempt one to think of this space (strictly geometrically) as a plane surface, and then to imagine it as comprising the paper on which music is notated, the dimensions then comprising the directions of the notation itself or of reading. But this is not yet musical space, and only if one tries to imagine a synthesis on this plane surface does one tend towards the concept of a diagonal. The inadequacy of the ‘diagonal’ seems to have been sensed by those authors who directed attention to the temporal aspect of music and who (perhaps by a popularizing analogy with the idea of time as the fourth dimension) attempted to locate the synthesis within the domain of ‘time’—say, the rhythmic domain. Schoenberg—and Webern followed him in this—distinguishes with terminological exactitude: wherever vertical and horizontal appear as concepts on their own, the explanation is always added: ‘The elements of a musical idea are partly incorporated in the horizontal plane as successive sounds and partly in the vertical plane as simultaneous sounds’; or: ‘In accordance with this [law], harmony and melody, vertical and horizontal, form a musical unit, a space, in both of whose dimensions the musical substance is deposited’, and similarly in the draft for the Princeton lecture. The conception of the dimensions of musical space is therefore connected with ‘harmony and melody’—without ‘vertical’ and ‘harmony’, or ‘horizontal’ and ‘melody’, thereby being identical. But how do matters stand on this plane with the ‘unit(y)’ that primarily interested Schoenberg and with the ‘synthesis’ upon which Webern apparently directed his attention?

Full text
Abstract:
Simultaneous measurements of acropetal and basipetal efflux of natural auxin from the cambial region of a series of successive sections from <em>Pinus silvestris</em> stems revealed an unknown until now variation of polarity expression in the transport of auxin, which occurs in short cycles along the stem. It is suggested that the direction of phase synchronization of this oscillation between the neighboring cambial cells determines the fronts of the auxin waves. Modulations of the auxin-wave caused by apical application of synthetic IAA were shown to depend upon changes in the polarity expression in respect to natural auxin transport. Some evidence of a direct involvement of the exogenous auxin in the mechanism responsible for oscillations of the polarity expression was also obtained in experiments, in which 14C-IAA was applied directly into the phloem of living trees of <em>Pinus taeda</em> L. Transport of labelled auxin was very slow however, and its direct involvement in polar transport (the oscillation of which was measured) extended only for a short distance from the place of aplication. Simultaneously, the natural auxin wave measured by bioassays extended to further distances. The results corroborate the hypothesis that oscillations of the polarity expression responsible for generation of the auxin wave in cambium depend primarily upon a system autonomous to cells of the cambial region, independent of the direct contribution of the molecules of auxin produced at distant sources. On the other hand, such external to cambium sources of auxin modulate the auxin-wave parameters affecting the system responsible for expression of the polarity in the regions close to their synthesis. These modulations are than propagated in the cambial zone.

Abstract:
In this paper, Au and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were successively deposited on fluorine-doped SnO2 transparent conductive glass (FTO, 1 × 2 cm) via a facile and one-step electrodeposition method to form a clean interface and construct a three-dimensional network structure for the simultaneous detection of nitrite and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). For nitrite detection, 3D Au-rGO/FTO displayed a sensitivity of 419 μA mM−1 cm−2 and a linear range from 0.0299 to 5.74 mM, while for the detection of H2O2, the sensitivity was 236 μA mM−1 cm−2 and a range from 0.179 to 10.5 mM. The combined results from scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction measurements (XRD) and electrochemical tests demonstrated that the properties of 3D Au-rGO/FTO were attributabled to the conductive network consisting of rGO and the good dispersion of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) which can provide better electrochemical properties than other metal compounds, such as a larger electroactive surface area, more active sites, and a bigger catalytic rate constant.

Abstract:
This study addresses the criticism leveled at A.C.T. Mathematics teachers with regard to their failure to use any other method of teaching than chalk-and-talk. By considering the changed needs of society for mathematics and the changed perceptions by society of education, the criticism is placed in context. The importance of spatial ability for mathematics is examined in the context of theories of cognitive abilities and its current under utilization within the classroom. On the basis of the increased need to utilize more talent the study was designed to operationalise in the classroom the constructs of simultaneous and successive synthesis, derived from Luria's model of brain functioning. The question of gender differences in mathematics achievment and spatial ability is addressed. The possible role of the maturation of language in determining differences in the acquistion of ability to form simultaneous synthesis is briefly discussed. The study was designed to utilize and enhance simultaneous synthesis. By demonstrating an Aptitude-Treatment Interaction it was intended to confirm that students, who function at a high level in simultaneous synthesis but at a low level in successive synthesis, would achieve more with experience with spatial activates than in a more traditional chalk-and-talk classroom. Gender differences in achievement were not found. Gender differences in successive/simultaneous profiles were found in accordance with theory predictions. The need for the duration of longer treatment periods is briefly discussed in the context of funding and the appearance of greater efficiency of traditional teaching methods when the students are functioning at the highest level of symbolic thought.

Brunton, Virginia. "Innovation in systematic review methods : successive developments in framework synthesis." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2017. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/10039022/.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: Systematic reviews are used increasingly to synthesise research for policy and practice decisions. Systematic reviews use transparent, explicit and consistent methods to identify, appraise and integrate research evidence, to inform existing assumptions. Traditionally used to examine the effects of health care, systematic review methods have evolved to address more complex issues across health and social policy. Framework synthesis is one systematic review method employed to address such complexity. Adapted from framework analysis used in primary research, framework synthesis begins with an a priori conceptual framework, which develops iteratively as new data are incorporated and themes derived from the data. Framework synthesis has been used increasingly in qualitative and mixed-method systematic reviews, sometimes incorporating stakeholder consultation to describe and interpret review findings. Aims: This thesis will demonstrate how my development of framework synthesis methods is situated within, and contributes to, wider debates about research synthesis methods in systematic reviews. Methods: I conducted an overview of systematic reviews. A systematic review of the literature discussing or employing framework synthesis methods was conducted. Included studies were ordered and synthesised using framework synthesis methods. The resulting conceptual framework structured the assessment of each of the submitted publications (the ‘thesis reviews’). Findings were subsequently incorporated into the conceptual framework and higher order themes derived using constant comparative analysis. Results: This thesis distinguishes two key approaches to framework synthesis: one approach that constructs a framework (often in discussion with stakeholders) to accommodate research from across academic disciplines and/or policy sectors; and the ‘best-fit’ approach that borrows a framework from a related area to initiate synthesis within a narrower disciplinary or policy scope. Its utility is demonstrated in handling mixed methods and mixed sources reviews, using diverse data types and synthesis methods in order to generate, explore and/or test theory in collaboration with stakeholders. I conclude that framework synthesis is a very flexible research synthesis method that can meet the complex conditions and epistemology arising from public health policy issues.
