Abstract:
The transcribed quotes on the previous page will serve as aguide of the development of this project, whose main goal is translating the second part of Simone Veil: Destin. After a brief contextualization, where some of the author's biographical data will be presented, I will then try to justify why the epithet peau de pêche/ peau de vacheis applied to Simone. As the chosen methodology for the creation of this project is presented, I will introduce some considerations about this type of text and I'll approach the biographee's personality, followed by the translation of the second half of the book and, lastly, I will showcase the faced difficultiesas well as the decisions taken. Throughout this paper, I will try to justify and defend its titleand also present some thoughts on the translator's profile and the act of translating –an unfinished action, requiring continuous work, that cannot be faced lightly as to make sure both the author and the reader of the translation are not betrayed

Abstract:
This work appeared out of the will to track the roads lived by a person who is, in my point of view, interesting and of great emotional depth - in short, it is the life of a character and even though being only a path written on paper, she remained human (with all the positive and negative aspects that come with it). The figure took shape immediately: Simone Veil. Then remained the choice between choosing a biography or an autobiography, the latter one having already found its mirror in our language – Uma Vida by Simone Veil (translation by Sara Canelhas). It would certainly have been more interesting to go on with a comparative study between the two versions but the preference was given to a not translated text – Simon Veil: Destin by Maurice Szafran. After the choice was made it became urgent to cast a critical and detailed glance over the original writing in order to infer about the very own beating of the text and to start to outline strategies. However only the field study revealed gradually which was the best way to follow. On the one hand this allowed me a reflection about the act itself of translating, and, on the other hand it allowed me to come to the conclusion that this process is a permanent challenge and that its product is systematically unfinished and subject to eternal changes.

Abstract:
A period of triumphant Nazism (in the beginning of XXth century) imposed in all Europe an abrupt stop: it made everything to annihilate the Jewish Diaspora. Outside even of physical destruction, this resolution of the “Jewish issue” is present as demolition at the same time of the heritage and of the Jewish identity. A lack of apogee is cause by a long way of tolerance and a hard work of integration. What changes from then on, is all the social relationships. The feeling of insecurity becomes an obsession and continues to haunt the survivors long after the end of the War. We can see that in the example of “Rodzinna historia leku” (A family history of the fear) it is the impact which has the Holocaust on the future of Polish Jews. Agata Tuszynska, professor, journalist (the second generation of the survivors) had a period of denial and a period of revolt, then came the age of the acceptance, with a desire to restore socio-cultural links between the disappeared and the contemporary world. The refusal of judgment on a kind of anti-Semitic fever, according to the criterion of the good and the bad, makes null the seizure of the correct meaning of the extermination after the War. The silence of the survivors overshadows the centuries of existence of the Polish Jews. It locks the victims into a world of incommunicable suffering. It is thus obvious that, in these circumstances to mourn and come to terms with the genocide can’t be succeeded. What prevents them from making this work of memory, except the psychic defenses, the social incomprehension and the self-forgetfulness. Shoah becomes then a mix of confessions and concepts, where get the space and the nonsense

Abstract:
With this paper I intend to reflect on the inherent duplicity/duality in the translator’s activity. Simultaneously, I seek to raise questions about the importance of said activity: the translator not as a simple “mediator”, but also as an “author”; the responsability derived from its importance; the translator as an agent of cultural “overture” and “enrichment”. Since this text is a biography, I will cover some approaches which are way of transmitting memory, resorting to primary and secondary sources. To define a text approach methodology, I mostly resort to João Barrento’s strata classification (phonologist, lexical, morphosyntactic, semantic, cultural, pragmatic), which correspond to the «several levels of translational competence». I present a very brief note on the biographee’s socio-politic journey, always trying to keep inmind the established connection between the two ways the biographer presents her as (femme granit/femme cristal) and the above mentioned characteristics of the translation itself. While taking note of the faced difficulties and proposed solutions, I searched for representative examples of several categories which means, diverse resources for solving specific problems. I present a glossary containing items that constitute cultural and historic reference points or were kept in their original language.

Sekino, Tetsuya. "Peut-on parler de Dieu aujourd'hui ? : De Wittgenstein à simone weil." Thesis, Lyon, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016LYSE3024/document.

Full text
Abstract:
We are consciously or unconsciously influenced by scientism and logical positivism. So we asked a question: Can we speak of God today? To answer the question, we focus on two philosophers, Wittgenstein and Simone Weil. According to Wittgenstein, “Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.” What he means by that is not that God doesn’t exist or that God is not intelligible as say scientism and logical positivism. What he means by that is that God does exist, but we can’t talk about him because of the limits of our language. But the lack of Wittgenstein is to look away from religious or metaphysical intelligibility. As for Simone Weil, she speaks of God in her writings and letters. What allows her to speak of God? This is our first point of interest. And our second point of interest is to define the mystical experience of Simone Weil, because the use of the word “mystical” in studies of Weil is rather arbitrary. Our third point of interest is to highlight the relationship between “non-reading” and intuition in Simone Weil. Our fourth point of interest is to explore the relationship between Zen Buddhism and the thought of Simone Weil. Through studying them, we will answer this question and, through Weil’s concept of intuition, we propose a worldview that is different from scientism and from logical positivism

Beginning with some of our keywords—authenticity, vernacular, and genre—and one folklorist’s crisis of belief, this opening chapter questions the folklorists’ investment in the tenets of folklore studies by looking behind the curtain of academic discourse to consider our belief in the language we use. Her argument rests on the seemingly simple claim that every mode of thought contains an element of faith. Here, Mullins seeks to peek behind the veil of our articles of faith.

Abstract:
How should a just government distribute resources like jobs, education and healthcare between age groups? How should it ensure that the rules that govern entitlements and restrictions at different stages of our lives are fair rather than age-biased? This chapter answers these questions starting from Norman Daniels’s account of lifespan prudence. Daniels proposes that the unattractive allegory of a war between young and old could be undercut by the simple realization that we can all benefit from some forms of unequal treatment by age. He asks us to convert the interpersonal question into the intrapersonal question “how would an ideally placed agent behind a veil of ignorance distribute scarce resources between different stages of her own life?” This chapter offers an in-depth critical engagement with the framework and offers two resulting principles of age-group justice: lifespan sufficiency and lifespan efficiency.

Abstract:
This chapter critically analyzes Locke’s views on “sensitive knowledge.” Its main theses are: (1) Locke sometimes confuses the legitimate question (Q1), “When we perceive a body, how can we know that we aren’t hallucinating instead?” with the faulty “veil-of-perception” question, (Q2) “How do we know bodies exist, since we can’t perceive them?” (2) When Locke does mention (Q1), he sometimes just dismisses it, because he holds that simple ideas of sensation are by definition produced by bodies. (3) At other times, Locke humors the skeptic, and offers a defense of the senses, in the form of an inference to the best explanation. (4) It’s doubtful that he could successfully rule out other possible explanations of our perceptual experience, like Descartes’s deceiver scenario and its contemporary variants. (5) There are reasons for this weakness, and they carry over to any attempt to defeat skepticism by an inference to the best explanation.

Abstract:
The practice of critical care medicine requires detailed knowledge of the practical aspects of respiratory physiology, including lung mechanics, the physiology of hypoxia, and the control of breathing. Before the lungs can enable gas exchange, air must move from the upper airway down a series of branching small airways and reach the alveoli. In the walls of the alveoli, capillaries form a dense network and receive blood flowing from the pulmonary artery before it flows to the pulmonary vein. Between the capillary network and the alveoli lies a thin blood-gas barrier through which oxygen and carbon dioxide move, chiefly by simple diffusion.

Abstract:
This essay examines the contradiction of classics for all, evident in but not exclusive to the not-for-profit enterprise by the same name (Classics for All) that seeks to promote the Greek and Latin classics in schools across the United Kingdom. Embodying a form like the classics can mean not slavish mastery, but an improvisational artistry that alters the form so that it bends to one’s will. Issues of access, however, problematize the simple assertion of classics for all. The realities that necessitated the Black Lives Matter movement, in contrast to a more hopeful, turn-of-the-twentieth-century Du Boisan notion of the removal of the Veil of segregation, run counter to classics for all. There have been sufficient signs within the twenty-first century of the rejection of a broad, democratic, multicultural movement toward American wholeness symbolized in the election of President Barack Hussein Obama. Nevertheless, economic disparities that separate black and white in the United States remain, and the post-Obama era evidences significant backlash across the “Black Atlantic” world. The classics is caught up in this backlash.

Abstract:
This chapter introduces Richard Rodney Bennett's A Garland for Marjory Fleming for the young, relatively inexperienced performer. Here, the five songs are perfectly balanced to provide contrast of pace and mood. The supple vocal lines are not perhaps quite as simple as they may first appear: rhythms contain a few surprises, and subtle shadings underpin key moments in the text. The central song, ‘On Jessy Watsons Elopement’, in particular, requires good rhythmic articulation and some breadth of range and dynamic. The final piece, ‘Sonnet on a Monkey’, is a gem of artfulness and grace, sure to charm audiences, bringing the cycle to an end in exuberant, tongue-in-cheek vein.

Abstract:
Patch angioplasty with vein or Dacron may be required to prevent narrowing when the arteriotomy is closed following carotid endarterectomy. We studied the effect of such patches on intraluminal thrombus formation by measuring radiolabelled platelet uptake in patients following simple closure and patch angioplasty.Following unilateral carotid endarterectomy in 33 patients, the arteriotomy was closed by direct suture in 23, Dacron patch in 6 and saphenous vein patch in 4. Autologous 111In-platelets were infused on the second postoperative day and platelet uptake over the carotid measured on daily gamma camera images for 3 days. Radioactivity over the operated and contralateral carotids were compared as the Carotid Uptake Ratio.Mean (±sem) counts per gamma camera cell at 24 hours in the operated carotid of 43.6±3.0 were consistently higher than the reference artery of 35.4±2.4 (p<0.001). The overall carotid uptake ratio was 1.21±0.04 with that of 1.41±0.07 in patch angioplasty significantly higher than 1.14±0.04 found following standard arteriotomy closure (p<0.01). All 10 patch angioplasties were easily visible as "hot spots" on gamma camera compared to only 11 out of 23 with simple closure but there was no significant difference between platelet uptake with vein or Dacron patches with ratios of 1.47±0.35 and 1.37±0.15 respectively (p>0.5).The greater local platelet accumulation with patch angioplasty may be due to turbulence from excessive widening of the vessel combined with the thrombogenic surface following endarterectomy. Until the significance of platelet accumulation is established platelet inhibitory therapy should be considered when patch closure is unavoidable.

Abstract:
In differential geometry, a curve is characterized by the curvature properties and so is a point trajectory in curvature theory. However, due to the rolling and sliding between contact curves, the characterization of enveloping curves embedded on rigid bodies in relative motion is not complete without the transfer (or shifting) characteristics of the contact point. This paper presents the new perspectives and the first comprehensive theory on not only the curvature characteristics but also the transfer characteristics between enveloping curves embedded on rigid bodies. The paper contains three parts. In the first part, a point traces a curve on the moving body and consequently traces a curve on the fixed body. Both generated curves form a pair of enveloping curves. This part establishes the foundation of the paper. Because each enveloping curve is treated as a point trajectory. One may examine all aspects of the enveloping process. Essentially this unmasks the veil that has hindered further understanding and observation of the enveloping behavior beyond the fundamental curvature. It represents a significant advancement on envelope theory. In the second part, the moving point is the instant center, which traces the moving centrode on the moving body and the fixed centrode on the fixed body. It characterizes the rolling between centrodes and the transfer characteristics of the instant center on each centrode. It not only offers a simple way to treat the instant center transfer (shifting) velocity but also successfully extends it to any order of motion. The third part is about the rolling and sliding of between enveloping curves embedded on rigid bodies in relative motion. It addresses the transfer characteristics of the contact on each of the contact curves for the first time. The transfer characteristics are functions of the rigid body motion characteristics. This part offers the vital kinematic aspect of enveloping curves distinctly different from the conventional curvature theory that addresses an individual curve. The proposed enveloping curvature theory offers an important model to account for all aspects of the contact and removes the veil that blurs the contact behavior caused by the traditional envelope definition of Fλxy=∂F∂λλxy=0. This is a kinematic solution for envelopes. The proposed theory is illustrated with an example of two rolling cylinders.

Abstract:
This paper looks into the impact forces applied to the joints of a biped walking on an uneven surface. In this vein, impact dynamics of the swing leg are studied by considering a simple two-link planar manipulator model which comes in contact with the ground. The effect of different parameters and factors on the magnitude of the joint impact forces is investigated. Specifically, it is observed how the elasticity of the shoe, the leg configuration, and the muscular flexibility of the joints affect the joint impact forces. The obtained results can be of practical importance in developing bipedal robots and in the diagnosis and treatment of human gait issues related to joint problems.

In XIth International Congress on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. Schattauer GmbH, 1987. http://dx.doi.org/10.1055/s-0038-1642895.

Abstract:
A semi-quantitative RNP using 99Technetium macroaggregated albumin for the evaluation and follow-up of DVT and CVI has been developed. Values were assigned to the deep veins of the calf, knee, tigh and pelvis based upon the localization and the characteristics of the images obtained: stasis, hot spots and collateral circulation. A maximum score of 18 reflected complete thrombosis of all 4 segments. 208 patients (mean age 53.7 years, range 18-92), 161 of whom had a proven risk factor for DVT were studied. 99Technetium was injected into the dorsal foot vein of 407 limbs with appropriate tourniquets and early and late imaging of the limbs, pelvis and lungs was performed. In 48 patients, 83 limbs, X-ray contrast phlebography (CP) was also done. The mean RNP score was 4.1 units (range 0.4-18) and higher in the left than the right lower limb. It was mostly high in patients with proximal recurrent DVT or in DVT superimposed on CVI. The score was easy to follow and helpful in the assessment of the extent of DVT. It was particularly helpful in 3 instances. 1) Assessment of venous patency following anticoagulant therapy. 2) Estimation of recurrent DVT. 3) Differentiation of recent DVT from venous insufficiency. Overall RNP method had a sensitivity of 87.6%, a specificity of 54% and an accuracy of 64.8%. The sensitivity was similar in above & below-knee thrombi. Yet the specificity was higher in above-knee thrombi. The highest accuracy (87.3%) was observed in pelvic and groin thrombi. The distribution of thrombi on CP was 19% below the knee, 31% above it and 50% both above and below the knee. Pulmonary embolism (PE) was initially observed in 54 patients (26%) with no clinical evidence of DVT and therefore untreated. This high level is most probably related to the high incidence of proximal DVT in the patients. 181 patients were treated with heparin & coumadin and the RNP score was decreased to 3.6 units (range 0.4-8.8). PE occurred during treatment in 11 (6.1%) and recurrent DVT in 16 (8.8%) patients. CVI was observed in 23 patients before treatment and in another 24 patients (13.2%) after treatment. These results indicate that the RNP method is a simple, semi-quantitative and useful technique for the evaluation and follow-up of DVT and CVI. It is most helpful in the assessment of the extent of DVT. It is also a rapid, noninvasive and cost effective techniaue.

Abstract:
The microvascular network is a simple but critical system that is responsible for various important biological mechanisms in the bodies of all animals. The ability to generate a functional microvessel in vitro not only makes it possible to engineer vital tissue of considerable size but also serves as a platform for biomedical studies. In this study, we propose a simple method for fabricating customized cylinder micro-scaffolds for the in vitro development of microvascular networks. By integrating micro-electro-mechanical systems techniques with thermal reflow, we design and fabricate a micro-scale hemi-cylinder photoresist template. Then, a replica mold of polydimethylsiloxane, produced by casting, is used to generate microvascular network scaffolds of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA). We selected the human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) as our model endothelial cell, seeded it onto both sides of the PLGA scaffold, and cultured it using a traditional approach with no pumping system. Results from fluorescent staining demonstrate that the scaffold was covered with HUVECs and that the desired microvascular network and pattern was generated in vitro. The proposed method enables the culture of cells on a scaffold using a conventional culture approach and allows continuous monitoring of cell conditions. The cell-covered scaffold can serve as a framework for building large tissues, while the formed microvascular network, after degradation of the biodegradable PLGA cylinder, can be used as the core of a vascular chip for in vitro circulation studies.

Abstract:
Arterial diseases are a common cause of death in the western world. The last two decades has seen vast improvements in scanning, screening, prognosis and symptom recognition, resulting in a greater number of treatments. A common treatment procedure used is bypass grafting which currently utilize synthetic graft materials, internal thoracic artery, and autologous vein. These treatments are invasive surgical procedures and can have low patency. An alternative treatment for these conditions is endovascular surgery. However these devices have problems such as restenois, migration and stent fracture. Improved design and drug elution have been utilized to enhance the performance, with limited success. The application of Tissue engineering scaffolds to enhance device performance has had limited studies. A Number of studies have looked at Small Intestine Submucosa in stenting applications [1, 2]. One study implanted an ECM (SIS) stent-graft into 8 sheep. The study concluded that the ECM stent graft successfully treated simple and ruptured AAA’s. Another study investigated a stent graft arrangement in the femoral arteries of sheep. The study found that SIS coated stent preformed better than that of PTFE covered stent grafts.

Abstract:
Numerous hyper-elastic theoretical material models have been proposed over the past 60 years to capture the stress-strain behavior of large deformation incompressible isotropic materials. Among them, however, only few models have considered the thermal aging effect on model parameters. Having a simple, closed-form equation that includes the effect of aging temperature and time in describing the stress-strain behavior could facilitate fatigue analysis and life time prediction of rubber-like materials. In this vein, this paper defines a new and simple Weight Function Based (WFB) model that describes hyper-elastic materials’ behavior as a function of aging time and temperature variations. More than 130 natural rubber specimens were thermally aged in an oven and tested under uni-axial loading to observe their stress-strain behavior at various temperatures and aging times. The temperature ranged from 76.7 °C to 115.5 °C, and the aging time from zero to 600 hours. The proposed WFB model is based on the Yeoh model and basic continuum mechanics assumptions, and it was applied to the tested natural rubber materials. Moreover, it was verified against Treloar’s historic tensile test data for uni-axial tension of vulcanized natural rubber material, and also compared to the Ogden and the Yeoh models. A non-linear least square optimization tool in Matlab was used to determine all hyper-elastic material model parameters and all other fitting purposes. The proposed model has better accuracy in fitting Treloar’s data compared to the Ogden and the Yeoh models using the same fitting tool under the same initial numerical conditions.

Abstract:
The rapid and specific detection of fibrin monomers (fm) and fibrin degradation products (fdp) is of major importance in the laboratory diagnosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Most methods in use are either time-consuming, needing special techniques, or insensitive and poorly specific. Some time ago, Watanabe and Tullis described a simple and rapid, semiquantitative test to detect fm and fdp in plasma, based on the finding that ristocetin in low concentrations (1.0-1.5 mg/ml) can specifically precipitate fm and fdp. To 0.4 ml ACD plasma, 0.1 ml ristocetin (2.5 mg/ml) is added and vortexed. The mixture is then incubated for 30 min at 20°C and centrifuged at 50xg for 5 min. The test is considered to be positive when fibrin-like strands or small or large pellets are observed on the bottom of the tube. More recently, Pfliegler et al. reported that ristomycin (AGGRISTIN), a structural analogue of ristocetin, can replace ristocetin in this test. Here we report on further results with the ristomycin (AGGRISTIN) precipitation test in 138 patients with various intravascular thrombotic events. The results of this test, performed on ACD plasma, were compared to the serum fdp values detected by immunoelectrophoresis (IEF) and by the haemagglutina-tion inhibition test (HIT). In all 30 cases with serum fdp above 30 ug/ml (HIT) or 28 pg/ml (IEF), the precipitation test was positive; at lower fdp concentrations, as detected by HIT or IEF, the test still was positive in 70 per cent of these thrombosis patients, suggesting a superior sensitivity. In 16 patients with elevated fibrinogen levels (but no evidence of thrombosis), the test was positive in only 3. No false positive results were detected in 16 healthy controls. Preliminary results show that the minor disadvantage of the test (blood collection on acid citrate dextrose) may readily be overcome by the in vitro adjustment of the pH of citrate plasma, commonly used for other haemostatic tests, to between 7.0 and 7.4.On the basis of our results we suggest that the AGGRISTIN (ristomycin) precipitation test is a simple, rapid and reliable method for the laboratory diagnosis of intravascular clotting.

Abstract:
Platelet α-granules and endothelial cells contain an inhibitor of plasminogen activator, which inhibits both t-PA and u-PA. The inhibitor (PAI-1) is detectable after SDS-PAGE and zymography on fibrin/plasmin-ogen/u-PA detector gels. We have purified endothelial PAI-1 by a simple two-step procedure. Serum-free conditioned medium from human umbilical vein endothelial cells, grown in microcarrier culture, was fractionated on Sephadex CM-50, a cation exchanger, followed by gel filtration on Sephacryl S-200. Aprotinin was included throughout the procedure to maintain the activity of the inhibitor. The PAI-1 was purified 2000-fold with a recovery of about 7%. The purified protein had a specific activity of 8500 U/mg protein and the activity could be stimulated 14-fold by 4M guanidine. The purified PAI-1, of M 48000, was a single-chain glycoprotein. The ptoduct wasapparently homogeneous on a silver-stained SDS-polyacrylamide gel, the protein band co-migrating with PAI activity. Further, a rabbit antiserum raised against the purified PAI-1 revealed only a single band on immunoblots of material from each stage of the purification. The immunoglobulin fraction ofthe antiserum, incorporated into the detector gel for zymographic analysis, neutralised the inhibitor from plasma, platelets and endothelial cells, confirming their identity. Preincubation of PAI-1 from these sources with the immunoglobulin prevented formation of a complex with t-PA or u-PA. This purification procedure, in which no denaturants are employed, provides a homogeneous preparation of PAI-1 that is useful for studies on the stimulatory effects of denaturants. The antiserum raised has allowed the development of a sensitive ELISA, specific for PAI-1.

Abstract: The definition of the Modulor as a set of measurements obtained through “universal” rules for composition of the new architecture has a long and complex development, stemming from a combination of studies in architecture, geometry and mathematics, but also from approximation and intuition. The process began in Paris in 1920, was completed in 1946 in New York and its results were published in an autobiographical vein in 1950 in the book entitled Le Modulor completed in 1955 by the book Le Modulor II. In his trip to New York in 1946 as French delegate for the project of the United Nations’ headquarters, his urgency to define the Modulor responded to an immediate need: to create a simple tool and a compositional principle to be applied to the United States’ building programme and to UN reconstruction and recovery programs. Unfortunately Le Corbusier did not manage to find a patron in America. He was unable to apply the Modulor in the USA. Not so in Europe, where work started on building the Unités d’habitation in Marseilles. Abstract:
The Mooshla Intrusive Complex (MIC) is an Archean polyphase magmatic body located in the Doyon-Bousquet-LaRonde (DBL) mining camp of the Abitibi greenstone belt, Québec. The MIC is spatially associated with numerous gold (Au)-rich VMS, epizonal 'intrusion-related' Au-Cu vein systems, and shear zone-hosted (orogenic?) Au deposits. To elucidate genetic links between deposits and the MIC, mineralized samples from two of the epizonal 'intrusion-related' Au-Cu vein systems (Doyon and Grand Duc Au-Cu) have been characterized using a variety of analytical techniques. Preliminary results indicate gold (as electrum) from both deposits occurs relatively late in the systems as it is primarily observed along fractures in pyrite and gangue minerals. At Grand Duc gold appears to have formed syn- to post-crystallization relative to base metal sulphides (e.g. chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite), whereas base metal sulphides at Doyon are relatively rare. The accessory ore mineral assemblage at Doyon is relatively simple compared to Grand Duc, consisting of petzite (Ag3AuTe2), calaverite (AuTe2), and hessite (Ag2Te), while accessory ore minerals at Grand Duc are comprised of tellurobismuthite (Bi2Te3), volynskite (AgBiTe2), native Te, tsumoite (BiTe) or tetradymite (Bi2Te2S), altaite (PbTe), petzite, calaverite, and hessite. Pyrite trace element distribution maps from representative pyrite grains from Doyon and Grand Duc were collected and confirm petrographic observations that Au occurs relatively late. Pyrite from Doyon appears to have been initially trace-element poor, then became enriched in As, followed by the ore metal stage consisting of Au-Ag-Te-Bi-Pb-Cu enrichment and lastly a Co-Ni-Se(?) stage enrichment. Grand Duc pyrite is more complex with initial enrichments in Co-Se-As (Stage 1) followed by an increase in As-Co(?) concentrations (Stage 2). The ore metal stage (Stage 3) is indicated by another increase in As coupled with Au-Ag-Bi-Te-Sb-Pb-Ni-Cu-Zn-Sn-Cd-In enrichment. The final stage of pyrite growth (Stage 4) is represented by the same element assemblage as Stage 3 but at lower concentrations. Preliminary sulphur isotope data from Grand Duc indicates pyrite, pyrrhotite, and chalcopyrite all have similar delta-34S values (~1.5 1 permille) with no core-to-rim variations. Pyrite from Doyon has slightly higher delta-34S values (~2.5 1 permille) compared to Grand Duc but similarly does not show much core-to-rim variation. At Grand Duc, the occurrence of Au concentrating along the rim of pyrite grains and associated with an enrichment in As and other metals (Sb-Ag-Bi-Te) shares similarities with porphyry and epithermal deposits, and the overall metal association of Au with Te and Bi is a hallmark of other intrusion-related gold systems. The occurrence of the ore metal-rich rims on pyrite from Grand Duc could be related to fluid boiling which results in the destabilization of gold-bearing aqueous complexes. Pyrite from Doyon does not show this inferred boiling texture but shares characteristics of dissolution-reprecipitation processes, where metals in the pyrite lattice are dissolved and then reconcentrated into discrete mineral phases that commonly precipitate in voids and fractures created during pyrite dissolution.
