Abstract:
Abstract This study aims to define the ways in which the work of Fronto circulated and was used in the intellectual circles of the fourth century A.D. through the testimony offered by the letters of Symmachus. In addressing illustrious members of the senatorial aristocracy of his time, Symmachus echoes Fronto’s work several times. The examination of Symm. Ep. 3.11 to Naucellius, with special reference to the expression spectator tibi veteris monetae solus supersum in Symm. Ep. 3.11.2, allows us to evaluate how Symmachus approaches the work of Fronto. The ways in which the short treatise ad M. Aurelium de orationibus is reprised lead us, further, to conclude that the lexical choices of the fourth-century letter-writer were determined by a textual variant in the text of Fronto available to him.

Abstract:

This paper present under a general manner, a software elaborated by the authors and their research teams, during a research project. So, we have worked out a toolbox (SIMMECH) of an ample program, done by dr. Rusu a few years ago, entitled Pythagoras. Both Pythagoras and Simmech packages was performed using the Java platform. In this stage of research, Simmech toolbox is able to simulate planar linkages and robots only. The simulation of a mechanism or robot of the specified category begins with its building, using specialized buttons on the graphic interface of the program, then we may visualize the movement of the mechanism for a imposed segment of time and we can also visualize the kinematical diagrams of the elements or joints. We hope in future to extend our research to the spatial mechanisms and robots.

Abstract:
Physical examination is a critical component of medical practice yet the focus on efficient patient turnover has impacted the availability of patients with clinical findings willing to be examined by students and skills' teaching is not consistent across clinical rotations. This work evaluates simulation methodologies for teaching of the peripheral arterial examination and evaluates whether skills learnt are transferable to clinical practice.Second-year medical students were taught peripheral arterial examination on a SimMan 3G or with simulated patients (SPs). Both groups were assessed by Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) with outpatients who have been diagnosed with peripheral arterial disease. There was no difference in the pass rate at OSCE between the two groups. SimMan better facilitated repeated practice, group learning, peer teaching and discussion, which were highly valued by the students. Students felt that the SImMan tutorial did not facilitate development of spatial cognition or pattern recognition. They also felt less well prepared to deal with real patients in terms of having practised appropriate language, issuing instructions and attempting to reassure patients. Both methods of simulation teaching have distinct merits and the ideal approach maybe to use the SimMan in combination with SPs.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a fast method for measuring the partial Similarity between 3D Model and 3D point Cloud (SimMC). It is crucial to measure SimMC for many point cloud-related applications such as 3D object retrieval and inverse procedural modelling. In our proposed method, the surface area of model and the Distance from Model to point Cloud (DistMC) are exploited as measurements to calculate SimMC. Here, DistMC is defined as the weighted distance of the distances between points sampled from model and point cloud. Similarly, Distance from point Cloud to Model (DistCM) is defined as the average distance of the distances between points in point cloud and model. In order to reduce huge computational burdens brought by calculation of DistCM in some traditional methods, we define SimMC as the ratio of weighted surface area of model to DistMC. Compared to those traditional SimMC measuring methods that are only able to measure global similarity, our method is capable of measuring partial similarity by employing distance-weighted strategy. Moreover, our method is able to be faster than other partial similarity assessment methods. We demonstrate the superiority of our method both on synthetic data and laser scanning data.

Abstract:
This short report outlines the rationale, design and method of production for a thigh-mounted intramuscular (IM) pad in the thigh of a SimMan 3G manikin. The aim of this project was to create an IM injection site in the manikin’s thigh to allow simulation participants to practise administering IM injections in a safe, supported environment. After creating a prototype from a plastic bottle, a module was designed to use with the SimMan 3G. A mould of SimMan’s leg was created using plaster of Paris, and then a relief was added to this mould to create the shape required to hold the sponge. Once the mould was completed, glass reinforced plastic (GRP) was applied to create the final module. Using an electric rotary tool, a hole was cut in the SimMan’s thigh to enable the module to be fitted. The final product was waterproof, lightweight and strong. It sits discretely beneath the SimMan 3G’s leg skin enabling students to practise high-fidelity IM injections on the manikin’s leg without faculty intervention. This module is a cost-effective solution for allowing participants to practise IM injections on a manikin during healthcare simulation.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to assess the quality of the manoeuvre prediction of a twin-shaft naval vessel by means of a time-domain simulator based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) hydrodynamic coefficients. The simulator uses a modular approach in which the hull, rudders, appendices and propellers are based on different mathematical models. The hydrodynamic coefficients of the hull in the bare and appended configurations are computed using virtual captive tests performed with an open-source CFD code: OpenFoam. This paper demonstrates that the application of the CFD hydrodynamic coefficients led to a good estimate of the macroscopic characteristics of the main IMO manoeuvres with respect to the experimental measures. The adopted test case is the DTMB 5415M frigate both with and without appendages. This test case has been investigated in several research studies and international benchmark workshops, such as SIMMAN 2008, SIMMAN 2014 and many CFD workgroups.

BackgroundOnline simulation provides an alternative approach to hands-on simulation and a number of software packages are becoming available to educators. Lab Tutor™ is an online, immersive learning platform, which aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice, by using real patient case studies along with interactive exercises. We introduced Lab Tutor™ software as an integral part of our year 3 clinical skills module, alongside the use of the SimMan 3G Advanced Human Patient Simulator (AHPS), with the aim of providing students with a more immersive simulation experience.MethodologyWe introduced LabTutor™ to final year nursing students at the beginning of an 11-week clinical skills module. On completion of the module we evaluated the use of the software and whether the students considered that using the interactive software improved their knowledge of disease processes and management of patients.ResultsWe will present the evaluation results from this pilot study. However, early feedback from students indicates that the introduction of LabTutor™ improved understanding of disease processes as well as their management. We are also in the process of developing a number of patient scenarios, using existing LabTutor™ patients, for use on the SimMan 3G AHPS. We also hope to present the early outcomes of this development.

Abstract In this paper, we discuss a software architecture, which has been developed for the needs of the System for Intelligent Maritime Monitoring (SIMMO). The system bases on the state-of-the-art information fusion and intelligence analysis techniques, which generates an enhanced Recognized Maritime Picture and thus supports situation analysis and decision- making. The SIMMO system aims to automatically fuse an up-to-date maritime data from Automatic Identification System (AIS) and open Internet sources. Based on collected data, data analysis is performed to detect suspicious vessels. Functionality of the system is realized in a number of different modules (web crawlers, data fusion, anomaly detection, visualization modules) that share the AIS and external data stored in the system’s database. The aim of this article is to demonstrate how external information can be leveraged in maritime awareness system and what software solutions are necessary. A working system is presented as a proof of concept.

Conclusion: Based on journals that have been reviewed, McGrath® MAC videolaryngoscope provides better and superior results compared to Macintosh in terms of the success rate and visualization of glottis. Also, the intubation time using McGrath® MAC videolaryngoscope is shorten compared to Macintosh both on the normal airway (without complication) and difficult airway. The participants (medical personnel and novice operators) in all studies that reviewed prefer to use McGrath® Mac videolaryngoscope instead of using direct laryngoscope with Macintosh blade for Endotracheal Intubation mainly used for learning or study simulators.

Abstract:
As network information resources grew in size, it was most efficient to process queries and updates at the site where the data was located. The processing accomplished by a traditional client-server network interface constrained the client to the set of queries supported by the server, or required the server to send all data to the client for processing. The former was inflexible and the latter was inefficient. Mobile agents support the movement of the client computation to the location of the remote resource. It has the potential to be flexible and efficient. Mobile agents are capable of suspending their execution, transporting themselves to another host on a network, and resuming execution from the point at which they were suspended. Mobile agents consume fewer network resources and support systems that do not have permanent network connections, such as mobile computers and personal digital assistants. This work described a prototype java based mobile agent environment for the development and deployment of mobile agent applications. The prototype called SIMMAS allowed programmer-developed applications to inherit mobility.

Abstract:
We report on the use of a high fidelity patient simulator (SimMan) within a clinical lab setting to teach learning disability nursing students about epilepsy management. We had previously prepped the students with verbal discussions on epilepsy management and, when the simulator began to undergo a seizure, small groups of students managed the unfolding scenario. We received written feedback from the students on the experience, and with reference to this and to the wider literature we consider the benefits of this approach to patient care. We surmise that lessons learned here will be applicable to trainee professionals from other parts of the register and in other fields allied to healthcare. We anticipate that this will improve care for people with intellectual disability in line with recommendations in Health Care for All (2008).

Abstract:
Abstract The paper presents results of spatial analysis of huge volume of AIS data with the goal to detect predefined maritime anomalies. The maritime anomalies analysed have been grouped into: traffic analysis, static anomalies, and loitering detection. The analysis was carried out on data describing movement of tankers worldwide in 2015, using sophisticated algorithms and technology capable of handling big data in a fast and efficient manner. The research was conducted as a follow-up of the EDA-funded SIMMO project, which resulted in a maritime surveillance system based on AIS messages enriched with data acquired from open Internet sources.

Abstract:
The SIMMAN 2008 workshop was held in Copenhagen, Denmark in April 2008. The purpose of the workshop was to benchmark the prediction capabilities of different ship maneuvering simulation methods including systems- and CFD-based methods through systematic quantitative comparisons and validation against EFD data for tanker (KVLCC), container ship (KCS), and surface combatant (5415) hull form test cases. For the KVLCC test case, two stern shape variants named KVLCC1 and KVLCC2 giving different instability loops were included. Free model test data was compared with systems-based methods and CFD for specified free maneuvers. Some of the systems-based methods used provided PMM and CMT data, and two used CFD instead. CFD-based methods were used to simulate forced motions and were compared with PMM/CMT model test data. The submissions were blind in the sense that the benchmark model test data was not provided prior to the workshop, unless data was required as input to the simulation method. A total of 64 submissions were received for the free maneuver simulations, which included a wide range of the state-of-the-art methods in use today, such as PMM- and CMT-based methods, CFD based methods, system identification, neural network tools and various empirical methods. For the forced motion simulations a total of 16 submissions were received, comprising different CFD-based methods such as RANS, URANS, and DES. This paper gives an overview of hulls, model tests, test cases, submissions, comparison results as well as the most important observations and conclusions.
