Abstract:

From 2011?2015, The Master?s Touch ministry has been the formal agency for the work of visiting the sick and shut-in at the Mount Moriah A.M.E. Church in New York. The purpose of this study is to determine any correlation between the visitations themselves and the level of local church commitment by the visited family members over these four years. This study is important because persons visited receive the benefits of pastoral care, while the impact on their families may not be as apparent. This research will focus on data from interviews conducted with family members in order to ascertain if there is any change to their level of local church commitment.

Abstract:
Pastoral care in the context of hospital visiting is entitled hospital chaplaincy. The initial three chapters of this paper analyze themes which are the biblical theological foundations of hospital chaplaincy. The first deals with the concept of taking care, the meaning of this action and its importance towards human life grounded on the theology of imago Dei, according to Genesis1.26-27. The second part of the paper presents the human being based on the biblical anthropology and the concepts of soul, heart, flesh and body. These anthropological notions present the human being solely in terms of existence and as a live unit animated by God. The third part describes the features of pastoral action related to the concept of pastoral care. The term refers to the metaphor of pastoralising the herd of God and is founded by the biblical image of God-shepherd and Christ as the good shepherd. Therefore, the chapter sheds light to conceptualizing, mainly from John 10, the pastoral ministry of Christ, as well as it introduces the pastoral care ministry as a means of expression of the Christian community along the history of the Church. The fourth chapter is briefly developed under a historical perspective of the hospital, it aims at grounding the hospital assistance as a human act from the theme of human dignity. Moreover, it leads to the necessity of integral care to the patient. The paper finishes by approaching the beginnings of Clinical Pastoral Training and its borders to psychology, it also ends by presenting the contents which were described in the previous chapters as biblical theological foundations of hospital chaplaincy: the human dignity, the biblical anthropology and the pastoral ministry of Christ.

Abstract:
The investigation work proposed by this thesis is none other than the objective analysis of the difference between the religious counseling and the psychoanalytical method of the unconscious approach. Yet what may seem simple at first sight leads to mazes and intricacies much more likely to confuse than to clarify the ideas already troubled in the historical moment that passes the humanity. This thesis seeks to prove the importance of the two segments to which it is exposed the human being in an attempt to self-perception, as this operation includes searching for meaning for themselves and each other. So the religion becomes important in any scientific segment based on the principle of the search of the common good, since the contemporaneity did not remove the existential repertory of the human religiosity, which remains inseparable from him. The method developed by Sigmund Freud, notably recognized as one of the methods that are more pointed and influenced the cognitive sciences over almost two centuries, presents, although young as an inspiring source of investigation in the Human Sciences in general. The question which is to be answered is: would be possible a balanced hearing, by the pastoral counseling and psychoanalyst, if both religion and psychoanalysis, formed by the raw material of the unveiling of the meaning of life through thought, could help the maturation of the human being as a person? What would be the possible answers to this question? This research seeks to contribute to the unveiling of these unknowns.

Abstract:
The problem addressed by this research project is expressed in two parts. Firstly an examination of the pastoral care needs of students at a particular independent secondary school. Secondly, an examination of the needs of the teachers (as providers of pastoral care) who are attempting to understand and deal with the pastoral needs of the students. The research takes the form of a bounded case study, employing techniques of data gathering and analysis from each of the positivistic and naturalistic paradigms. As such then the study is described as mixed - mode research allowing for the triangulation (Jick, 1979. p.602) of both qualitative and quantitative data. Data were gathered from students by means of an attitude survey and through the use of personal interviews. Information was collected from teachers by means of two rounds of interviews and through a whole-staff seminar. Methods of analysis of these data were appropriate to the types of data involved. The quantitative data were analysed via the application of a computer-based data analysis programme and the qualitative data were analysed through emergent categorisations. The findings from each set of data were then examined side by side to provide a broad understanding of the case. The findings of the research, provided useful information about the attitudes of the students to a wide range of aspects of school-life, and highlighted general and specific areas of pastoral care related need. Similarly, for the teachers, attitudes, needs and indications of strengths and weaknesses of the school's pastoral care provisions became apparent. Significant amongst the specific needs of teachers was the need for increased and improved training in pastoral care skills at both the pre-service and in-service levels.
