Abstract:
It is safe to say that Schumann was a kind of personification of the "romantic hero": rather secretive and shy in his personal life, at the same time, he was in a constant flame of creative excitement. The composer's music is imbued with an amazing wealth of psychological nuances; it is rebellious and agitated, unconditionally rendering the heightened and subtle reactions experienced by the creator. The author analyzes the features of R. Schumann's creative body of works, reveals the specifics of his compositional writing, and shows the features of the performance of his works. The material presented in the article may be useful in the preparation of performing musicians.

Abstract:
Mune: Guardian of the Moon is a children’s animated film about a series of misadventures resulting in a lighthearted good-versus-evil plotline. This movie attempts to be imaginative and original, and succeeds in some ways, through positioning slight-figured, compassionate, shy Mune as the hero of the story and using dreams of transformation instead of fists to defeat evil. However, it falls short through its stereotypical depictions of masculinities and gendered dynamics. Rather than portraying diverse and alternate ways that masculinity can be performed, Mune utilizes normative gender roles and hegemonic masculinity to emphasize that even small, unassuming young men can adequately fulfill typical masculine leadership roles, so long as they are most powerful and ultimately win the girl.

Abstract:
In the summer of 1941, Sergeant James Allen Ward was awarded the Victoria Cross for climbing onto the wing of his Wellington bomber 13,000 feet above the Zuider Zee in Holland to extinguish a fire in the starboard engine. Secured only by a rope around his waist, he managed not only to smother the fire but also to return along the wing to the aircraft's cabin. Churchill, an admirer as well as a performer of swashbuckling exploits, summoned the shy New Zealander to 10 Downing Street (for our American friends that's like the British White House). Ward was struck dumb with awe in Churchill's presence and was unable to answer the Prime Minister's simplest questions. Churchill surveyed the unhappy hero with some compassion. “You must feel very humble and awkward in my presence,” said Churchill. “Yes sir,” stammered the young flyer. “Then you can imagine how humble and awkward I feel in yours,” said Churchill. Dubinina, Tatiana G. "THE MIRACLE OF PARENTAL LOVE: A.P. CHEKHOV`S SHORT STORY "THE BISHOP" AND I.S. TURGENEV'S NOVEL "FATHERS AND CHILDREN"." Proceedings of Southern Federal University. Philology 26, no. 4 (December 22, 2022): 119–26. http://dx.doi.org/10.18522/1995-0640-2022-4-119-126.

Abstract:
The article considers the question of the influence of I.S. Turgenev's novel "Fathers and Children" on A.P. Chekhov's story "The Bishop". The relevance of the work lies in the perspective of the study, which assumes not just a comparison of the images of mothers in the works, but also allows us to talk about child-parent relations as an important problematic core of texts. Despite the fact that Chekhov's interest in this novel is known to everyone, the "Bishop" did not become an object of interest to the scientist in the proposed way. Common features in the "mother-son" collision are revealed. Mothers are similar in relation to their sons – they love children very much and are shy to show this love at the same time. Their affection is manifested in facial expressions, gestures, and eye expressions. The problem of tragic loneliness of heroes is touched upon. If in Turgenev's novel Bazarov opposes himself to the world, then in Chekhov's story the world seems to repel the hero, who has no one to talk to sincerely. Even the strong and sincere love of the mother does not save the hero from loneliness. The finales of the texts turn out to be fundamentally important. They find themselves converging on one thing – private death does not disrupt the general course of life. Both Turgenev and Chekhov avoid didactics. However, in the finale of the novel "Fathers and Children", the parents' funeral prayer for their son sounds. The idea of the saving power of parental love is affirmed. It will be the key to the hope of eternal life for their son. The finale of Chekhov's story is tragic. Despite his sincere faith in God, the hero is experiencing an existential catastrophe, and maternal love is not able to prevent it. There is no triumph of life over death.

Abstract:
Holden Caulfield, the major character in Jerome David Salinger’s most rewarded novel The Catcher in the Rye, long stood as the innovative and leading figure for such distinctive and revolutionary traits in a character he presented in 1959s’ America literary domain. Salinger media-shy and no interview policies led the public to spread out the idea of the author’s being the whole genius behind the sheer novelty of Holden Caulfield character by making a myth out of the author who turns down any kind of publicity and is finally lionized. This student-friendly hero who denigrate respectability and” phoniness” with his cynical attitude and obscene language, in one way or another, is kept being compared to such huge characters like Huckle Berry Finn whose universal popularity is barely deniable; but the question is that, could at any rate, J.D.Salinger be the sole innovator behind this genuineness? On the other hand, are there any other social and environmental factors, which came to pave the way for any kinds of Holden to be born and well liked? The main purpose of the paper is to answer these questions by a kind of critical theory as New Historicism and survey through the history as a discourse in this method. The results and findings indicate that, apparently, there was a specific social context for the emergence of this novel, with which the author had to interact. By opening up the environmental condition of those days and considering the facts, which affected Holden’s birth and popularity in that era. This essay will point out the fact that criticizing America’s 50s in such aforementioned ambience was inevitably and to some extent predictable.

Abstract:
The article examines the traditional images of comparison, characterizing diminutive dendronyms in the language of the Russian poetry of the 19–21st centuries, from the perspective of the relationship of ‘cultural-stereotypical (traditional) – author’s individual’. The analysis of 725 fragments from the Russian poetic works of the 19–21st centuries reveals the ways of word formation and the composition of diminutive dendronyms, as well as the composition of folk poetic, general poetic and individual author’s images of comparative tropes representing these diminutives as subjects of comparison: girl; love attraction, longing; to cry (tears), to grieve, to yearn; fertility; separation; bitter, unhappy fate, orphanhood; gold, silver; emerald; smoke; clothing; fire; pattern, mesh product; infantas by Velasquez, ermine coat; calico; fidelity. The referencedenotative features of the corresponding realia, motivating the choice of figurative associations are determined: a thin trunk, flexible branches, serrated, heart-shaped leaves, flowering trees, fruit trees. The techniques that help make stereotypical images of comparison in the Russian poetic language individualized are established: the inclusion in the composition of an extended anthropomorphic metaphor; updating by means of occasional epithets, lexical variation of the components of the trope. The stable semantic connotations of diminutive dendronyms are singled out: ‘shy’, ‘timid’, ‘meek’, ‘slender’, ‘tall’, ‘gentle’, ‘curls’, ‘braids’, ‘thin figure’, ‘beauty’, ‘breasts’, ‘captivate’, ‘innocence’, as well as the ways of their representation in poetic contexts: extended metaphors ‘autumnal withering of a tree – withering of female beauty’; memories of the lyrical hero about close people; parallelism of the images of a tree and a human condition; conventional epithets (weeping, bitter); features of the situation of a literary text. The results of the study allow us to improve the understanding of how comparative tropes with diminutive dendronyms develop dynamically in the Russian poetic language.

Abstract:
ErbB3 (HER3), a unique member of the ErbB receptor family, lacks intrinsic protein tyrosine kinase activity and contains six Tyr-Xaa-Xaa-Met (YXXM) consensus binding sites for the SH2 domains of the p85 regulatory subunit of phosphoinositide 3-kinase. ErbB3 also has a proline-rich sequence that forms a consensus binding site for the SH3 domain of p85. Here we have investigated the interacting domains of ErbB3 and p85 by a unique application of the yeast two-hybrid system. A chimaeric ErbB3 molecule containing the epidermal growth factor receptor protein tyrosine kinase domain was developed so that the C-terminal domain of ErbB3 could become phosphorylated in the yeast system. We also generated several ErbB3 deletion and Tyr → Phe site-specific mutants, and observed that a single ErbB3 YXXM motif was necessary and sufficient for the association of ErbB3 with p85. The incorporation of multiple YXXM motifs into the ErbB3 C-terminus enabled a stronger ErbB3/p85 interaction. The proline-rich region of ErbB3 was not necessary for interaction with p85. However, either deletion or mutation of the p85 SH3 domain decreased the observed ErbB3/p85 association. Additionally an ErbB3/p85 SH3 domain interaction was detected by an assay in vitro. These results were consistent with a model in which pairs of phosphorylated ErbB3 YXXM motifs co-operate in binding to the tandem SH2 domains of p85. Although a contributing role for the p85 SH3 domain was suggested, the N- and C-terminal SH2 domains seemed to be primarily responsible for the high-affinity association of p85 and ErbB3.

Abstract:
Though the workforce in the United States is comprised of more than 50% women, women hold only 26% of professional computing jobs, and at some companies the percentage is even lower (National Center for Women & Information Technology, 2011). This study aims to examine whether employees within the tech industry have an implicit association between the concepts of “maleness” and “tech”. Participants will complete a priming task, an Implicit Association Test, and a survey about existing sexist beliefs and their jobs. The Expectation States Theory (Eagly, Beall, & Sternberg, 2004) suggests that all participants will have an implicit association between these concepts, though participants primed with an article about a man in tech and participants from companies with more men overall, in leadership, and in tech positions will have a stronger bias. Additionally, the Unified Theory (Greenwald et al., 2002; Smeding, 2012) suggests that the proposed results will show that women working in tech positions have a slightly weaker bias, and priming about a woman in tech will not reverse the bias. If implicit biases are addressed within the tech industry, these fixes can help the field maintain its upward trajectory by becoming an inclusive space for men and women.

Kacka, Katarzyna. ""When she hath spacious ground to walk upon, Why on the ridge should she desire to go?": The influence of the Herod-Mariamme myth on Elizabeth Cary's The Tragedy of Mariam." Doctoral thesis, Università degli studi di Padova, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/11577/3421798.

Full text
Abstract:
The scholarly studies on The Tragedy of Mariam (1613), the first original five-act closet drama written in English by a woman, Elizabeth Cary, still raise questions about the author's inspirational impetus for her revised version on the Herod-Mariamme myth. Cary appears to have heavily borrowed from Flavius Josephus's works, The Antiquities, completed circa 93-94 A.D., and perhaps also The Jewish War, completed earlier, between 69 and 79 A.D., for the plot of Mariam, but a number of differences in the action development as well as the characterization of some protagonists between the primary sources for the play and Cary's version has led scholars to suppose that she might have been inspired by other works. This thesis, in fact, argues for a recognition of the significance of a larger use of the biblical and early English dramatic sources, till now little explored, that appear to be at the heart of many exiting details added by Cary to the account of the Jewish historian on Herod the Great and his second marriage. The first chapter offers a survey of the critical studies on the tragedy which, starting from its first modern 1914 Malone Society edition by Arthur Cyril Dunstan and Walter Wilson Greg and through a growing number of books and essays with various approaches to the text throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, seeks to emphasise a scholarly growing interest in the subject matter and the structure of the text, the circumstances in which Cary composed and published her play, as well as the meaning and the importance of this literary work for contemporary readers and spectators. The second chapter constitutes a study of Cary's educational background, mostly reconstructed on the information about her family life and works, included in her biography, which while presenting Cary as a young omnivorous reader of the time, able and encouraged to think critically, explores the historical and literary contexts of the play. The chapter concludes with an updated review of the present state of scholarship on the possible influential material on Mariam, preparing the ground for the literary analysis, respectively, in the third chapter, of the main source of Mariam, and in the fourth chapter, of probable sources for the tragedy, including the Bible and the early English dramas about Herod. The third chapter examines Cary's use and manipulation of the most probable and already quite well-explored historical sources by Flavius Josephus. It focuses upon the ways in which Cary selected the historical events and personalized them as well as the characterisation of some protagonists, constructing her own version of the story of Herod's marriage to Mariamme. This chapter, while discussing Cary's creativity in retelling the Herod-Mariamme myth, highlights her apparently strong alignment with the literary and social conventions of the period. The last chapter is an examination of evidence I have used to support my hypothesis that Cary might have blended more contents and characterizations to enliven the comparatively stark figures of the historical sources, and therefore, their actions. In this section, in fact, I explain in what ways the writer appears to go beyond the historical accounts, pointing to the similarity between Cary's dramatization of Herod, in particular, to different biblical Herods as well as the model of the biblical angry and paranoid stage villain built in early English dramas, and thus, emphasising that Mariam may be considered a compelling example of emerging literally experimentation on the Herod-Mariamme myth.

Abstract:
Thesis (MA (English))--University of Stellenbosch, 2010.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis analyses six novels by different women writers, each of which rewrites an originally androcentric biblical story from a female perspective. These novels are The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, The Garden by Elsie Aidinoff, Leaving Eden by Ann Chamberlin, The Moon under her Feet by Clysta Kinstler, The Wild Girl by Michelle Roberts and Wisdom’s Daughter by India Edghill. By classifying these novels as feminist revisionist fiction, this study considers how they both subvert and revise the biblical narratives they are based on in order to offer readers new and gynocentric alternatives. With the intention of establishing the significance of such an endeavor, the study therefore employs the findings of feminist critique and theology to expose how the Bible, as a sexist text, has inspired, directly or indirectly, many of the patriarchal values that govern Western society and religion. Having established how biblical narratives have promoted and justified visions of women as marginal, subordinate and outside the realm of the sacred, we move on to explore how feminist rewritings of such narratives might function to challenge and transform androcentric ideology, patriarchal myth and phallocentric theology. The aim is to show that the new and different stories constructed within these revisionist novels re-conceptualise and re-imagine women, their place in society and their relation to the divine. Thus, as the title suggests, this thesis ultimately considers how women writers ‘steal’ the original biblical stories and transform them in ways that prove liberating for women.

Abstract:
The understanding, I draw from this inquiry has come through a muddy, and complex entangledprocess. I have been re-turning like a "Baradian" earthworm, to experiences of being, in spacesof not-knowing. Digesting the mud, moving it, once more, like worms do, through the body.By doing an agential cut, into two spaces, eventually three strong agents unfold: Risk,Vulnerability, and Trust. Out of this result, an ethical and pedagogical question arise: How totake account of Vulnerability and Trust when encouraging our students to Risk?Entering a space of not knowing is at the foundation of my art practice. When as an arteducator,I went to China to inquire into the educational strategies of Chinese Classical Painting,I found myself thrown into a multitude of spaces of not knowing. This thesis, is an inquiry intohow being in such spaces, perform knowledge. To explore this, I return to the field-notes andvisual material including a report in the form of a visual essay of the study from 2011. I re-turnto this material with new tools and concepts inspired by Karen Barads metaphors of diffractionand earth-worms approach, as well as my artists tools: brush, water colours, ink, and paper;inrtoducing painting as a tool for analysis. As a theoretical approach, I entangle the flat ontology of Deleuze and Guattari, and theonto-epistem-ology of Barad, with the philosophical traditions in China of Buddhism and Dao.From an onto-epistem-ological perspective, I ask the question: "If we know about the worldbecause we are of the world," what knowledge then appear, when we experience our being in theworld as a space of not knowing. In this study, I have found that a space of not knowing performlearning through experiences of Vulnerability, Risk and Trust. The art part of this thesis is connected to Risk as well as to Vulnerability and Trust. Itfeatures a rope hanging from the ceiling to the floor. It is a rope that has been used during severalyears by a Circus artist during performances; hanging high up in the ceiling — demanding focusand presence from him. The installation at Konstfack spring-show 2018 featured the Circus artistrope together with a painting made in the context of Buddhist Vipassana meditation, entanglingmy tactile approach in art, with the text of this thesis.

Liver plays an important role in human metabolism and detoxification. When the metabolic pathways in liver fails, diseases occurr. Traditional Chinese herbal medicine has been a spotlight of research interests in recent years. This study focused on the effect of chi-hu-shu-gan (CHSG) powder, a traditional Chinese herbal medicine commonly used in the treatment of liver diseases by doctors, on hepatic antioxidation system and detoxification system of Sprague-Dawley rats whose chronic or acute liver injury had been induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). Animals were divided into four groups, including normal control group, CCl4-treated only group and two herb-treated groups with CHSG low (1.26 g/Kg) and high dose (6.23 g/Kg). In chronic liver injury model, rats received 50 % CCl4 (1 ml/Kg) orally twice a week for eight weeks while in acute liver injury model after ten days of herbal treatment the rats received a single dose of 50 % CCl4 (2 ml/Kg). The detoxificative and hepatoprotective effects were evaluated by following analyses: (1) lipid peroxidation analysis, (2) antioxidative enzymes assays, including catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), (3) detoxification enzyme analyses, including cytochrome P450s (CYP) of phase I and GST of phase II, (4) activity assays of liver-specific cytosolic enzymes AST, ALT. In chronic liver injury model, the data showed that high dose of CHSG significantly increased AST, ALT and CAT activity and prevented CYP2E1 from degradation as compared with the CCl4 group (p<0.05). Besides, the GST activity of the CHSG low dose group was higher than that of the CCl4 group (p<0.05). In the acute liver injury model, the GPx activity of high dose CHSG group was much higher than that of the CCl4 group (p<0.05). All together, it suggested that the hepatoprotective effect of the modified-CHSG powder was resulted from the enhancement of the activities of some antioxidative enzymes and modulation of detoxification system, which in turn may lower the damage caused by CCl4.

Abstract:
Edith Tudor-Hart, a photographer working in Britain from the 1930s to the 1950s, became exceptionally good at photographing children. Her final series of images, published in a classroom text called Moving and Growing (1952), were created through a collaborative method she developed by combining her teaching experience and her training as an artist with her political conviction that photography is a democratic medium. The results are dynamic photographs that capture children moving, risking and creating. Shortly after Moving and Growing was published, Tudor-Hart abandoned photography and destroyed her catalogue of negatives fearing she was about to be prosecuted as a spy. As a consequence, her work was largely forgotten, but her images and working methods deserve to be recalled and studied. In our highly visual age, Edith Tudor-Hart’s powerful images have much to say about the relationship between photography and images of childhood.

Abstract Alcmene, fearing Hera’s jealousy, exposed her newly-born child in a field outside the walls of Thebes; and here, at Zeus’s instigation, Athene took Hera for a casual stroll. ‘Look, my dear! What a wonderfully robust child!’ said Athene, pretending surprise as she stopped to pick him up. ‘His mother must have been out of her mind to abandon him in a stony field! Come, you have milk. Give the poor little creature suck!’ Thoughtlessly Hera took him and bared her breast, at which Heracles drew with such force that she flung him down in pain, and a spurt of milk flew across the sky and became the Milky Way.

Kelso earned regional fame as a hunter of rebel bandits and bushwhackers. Stories about him spread by word of mouth and lingered into the later nineteenth century. Rebels called him a cruel monster; Unionists hailed him as the Hero of the South West. He was remembered as a polite, scholarly man who read books of philosophy or German grammar in camp, rode a charmed horse named Hawk Eye, and carried an oversized shotgun. He was renowned for his “individual heroism,” his fearlessness, and for fighting like a “tiger” in hand-to-hand combat. In the summer of 1863, however, his luck temporarily ran out when he was hit by a shotgun blast and crushed beneath his fallen horse.

Abstract:
Abstract The twenty poems included in this chapter represent the words of women and men in solitude, speaking to themselves, to their own hearts, to the moon; sighing out their desires, regrets, and memories into the blank, lonely night. The first seven poems are spoken by women and are quite straightforward in expression and meaning. The remaining poems are all spoken by men (the commentators occasionally remark that these poems are either “spoken by the hero to his own heart, or alternatively, to a male confidante” or to a travelling com¬ panion. Poems 13.8 and 13.9 are the words of men who are totally undone by the artifices and charms of their lovers. Poems 13.10 and 13-11, the first a Prakritgatha, the second a Tamil poem from Kur.untokai, reflect the heroes’ befuddlement at finding their lovers bold by night, but shy or indifferent by day. Poems 13.12-13.18 are all heroes’ recollections-either tortured or fond, sometimes both--of past sexual pleasures, of returning to their homes to embraces after long journeys, and of acutely painful moments of parting. Poem 13 .19 is a man’s soliloquy about his lover’s growing indifference, and the final poem, from the Tamil anthology Kur.untokai, is an outburst of despair set in the marutam landscape, that of horrible quarreling and infidelity after marriage. According to U. Ve. Caminataiyar, the spealcer has been consorting with other women, and he speaks this poem to his own heart but within earshot of his wife.

Abstract:
Having in mind today's growth of information sources, both in terms of their number and of their size, whether we are referring to the Internet, a corporate intranet, or a library information retrieval system, we can say that manipulating information is not a trivial task. The user is not often being catered for in distributed information systems. He/ she seems to be interacting with systems that do not recognize his/her uniqueness and thus do not offer an individualized treatment. As a result, User Modeling is a core, essential factor in achieving personalization. We present here an intelligent way of inferring user related information that is not available, a situation that is very likely to occur due to sparseness of relevant data. This method can be very useful in recommender systems and this is illustrated with an example.

Nissan, Ephraim. "A naming situation captured in episodic formulae: how a publisher accepted his funder’s suggestion as to how to name his small press (and later found out the Italian word had been the name of a little dog that ketchup heiress used to have)." In International Conference on Onomastics “Name and Naming”. Editura Mega, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.30816/iconn5/2019/62.

Full text
Abstract:
Episodic formulae are a representational technique that emerged from artificial intelligence in order to capture the gist of situations and epistemic states in a narrative plot. Arguably, this formalism can be applied as well to complex situations of name-bestowing and evolving perceptions of the name adopted. In the situation we analyse with epistemic formulae in this paper, the Manhattan entrepreneur who had launched a literary magazine and then found a very affluent funder for also starting a book operation, expectably felt obliged to accept her suggestion of a name for his firm. At the time, in New York City he could be expected to find out easily that the name Ecco was the Italian adverb ecco for ‘here is…’ or ‘here you go’ and so forth. Eventually, he found out that the ketchup heiress who funded him had suggested to him the name of her beloved little dog that she once owned. This time, it was private knowledge, rather than available knowledge. One can figure out (from general patterns of how people feel or behave) that she wanted a memorial for her dog, and the publisher could be expected to have made sense of that once aware, but it also brought to the fore how their balance of power affected what she could afford vis-à-vis him. The set of formulae shown here illustrates the potential for onomastic research to develop a rigorous representation for situational constellations of name-bestowing and bearing a name that thus far it could explain just informally in narrative form.

In XIV Congresso Paulista de Neurologia. Zeppelini Editorial e Comunicação, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.5327/1516-3180.141s1.682.

Full text
Abstract:
Endemic in Brazil, sporotrichosis usually presents in its cutaneous form. Meningeal involvement is rare and generally affects immunocompromised hosts. Here we describe a case of meningeal sporotrichosis in an immunocompetent patient without concurrent skin lesions. A 78-year-old woman, previously healthy, developed cognitive deficits with fluctuating mental confusion over the course of three months, until she went to the emergency department with fatigue and stupor. Laboratory workup showed severe hyponatremia due to inappropriate ADH secretion. She was treated with fluid restriction and discharged. Two months later, she was referred to a neurologist because of persistent mental confusion in spite of controlled sodium. She had no headache, fever, seizures, or focal deficits. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis revealed chronic meningitis: 232 cells (95% lymphocytes), elevated protein (3.021 mg/dl) and low glucose; cultures and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for Mycobacterium were negative. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed basal meningeal enhancement. She was hospitalized and empirically treated for meningeal tuberculosis, with no clinical nor CSF improvement after one month. In a careful history review, we found out that one year earlier she had been exposed to cats who died from sporotrichosis. One month after that, she had had a single skin lesion which spontaneously disappeared, followed by polyarthritis, which also resolved. At the time of our evaluation, she had no cutaneous lesion nor arthritis; CTs of the chest and abdomen were normal. PCR for Sporothrix in the CSF came out positive. She received liposomal amphotericin for 1 month, followed by a 6-months use of itraconazole. She fully recovered her cognitive capacities; follow-up MRI showed no alterations; her late CSF was nearly normal (5 cells, protein 55 mg/dl, no glucose consumption). Our report draws the attention to atypical neurological presentations of sporotrichosis, a treatable condition that may unrecognized.

Abstract:
We present a real-time algorithm to automatically classify the behavior or personality of a pedestrian based on his or her movements in a crowd video. Our classification criterion is based on Personality Trait theory. We present a statistical scheme that dynamically learns the behavior of every pedestrian and computes its motion model. This model is combined with global crowd characteristics to compute the movement patterns and motion dynamics and use them for crowd prediction. Our learning scheme is general and we highlight its performance in identifying the personality of different pedestrians in low and high density crowd videos. We also evaluate the accuracy by comparing the results with a user study.

Abstract:
Introduction: Progression-free survival in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer was significantly improved after administering dual block (DB) associated with docetaxel when compared with trastuzumab and docetaxel. This case report is about a patient with malignant breast cancer — HER2 positive — and metastatic lung and liver disease. Objective: The aim of this study is to report the positive response to the oncologic treatment. Case Report: A 43-year-old woman was diagnosed in 2011 with malignant breast cancer in early stage, i.e., cT1N0M0, with acute liver lesion not detected by tomography. She underwent upfront surgery, adjuvant chemotherapy with AC-TH schedule plus 1 year of Herceptin, and adjuvant radiotherapy. The tumor was developed again in 2015 through physical examinations, revealing metastatic lung and liver disease. She underwent first-line chemotherapy with docetaxel, Herceptin, and pertuzumab with DB maintenance. After additional physical examination, she presented an excellent response to treatment, remaining on maintenance with DB since October 2015 with an exceptional response to oncologic therapy. Discussion: It was observed an excellent response to treatment. Despite the poor prognosis, the patient presented a complete clinical improvement, and the treatment ensured much longer than average survival and an outstanding quality of life. Conclusion: Using docetaxel, Herceptin, and pertuzumab in patients with breast cancer, HER2 positivity improved the median overall survival of the patient; this confirms, albeit as an isolated case, the data from the Cleopatra study.

This case study is on a 59 year old female patient who was admitted to the medical ward due to severe abdominal pain. Four years ago, she was diagnosed with Carcinoma in the Ovary. She underwent – Total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH), bilateral Salpingooophorectomy (BSO) and Omentectomy. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments followed the surgery. She had been diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension too. This patient mainly showed significant pain, abdominal distension, and gastrointestinal dysfunction. Apart from the other physical symptoms, she showed psychological and spiritual problems too. During the assessment her eyes were full of tears. She was highly worried about her health condition & worried about her elder son who is unable come the see her because he lives abroad. The sensitive aspect of this patient was her psychological status. More attention must be paid to alleviate anxiety and depression. The holistic approach is very important in caring for a patient on palliative care. There was a problem found with her caregiver at home. Because she lives with her husband and her younger son is at home. A Caregiver plays a major role in caring for this palliative patient. Therefore, it is essential to assess the caregiver condition for preventing caregiver burden. In providing nursing care for this patient to relieve pain and other physical problems they used pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions. Though her pain & other physical problems were relieved by the day her psychological status was deteriorating. This may have caused depression and anxiety. It is suggested to take care of the patient's mental health and to implement appropriate psychological strategies, nursing interventions, and precautionary measures to minimize the level of psychological distress and to increase patient’s quality of life. Abstract:
The paper is focused on the correlation between the psychological archetype of a film character and the linguistic elements composing their speech. The Nurturer archetype is represented in the film Inside Out by the personalized emotion Joy. Joy is depicted as an antropomorphous female character, whose purpose is to keep her host, a young girl Riley, happy. As the Nurturer, Joy is completely focused on Riley’s happiness, which is expressed by lexico-semantic group ‘happy’, positive evaluative tokens, exclamatory sentences, promissive speech acts, and repetitions. She needs the feeling of connectedness with other members of her family, which is revealed by lexico-semantic groups ‘support’ and ‘help’. She is ready to sacrifice everything to save the girl in her care, which is demonstrated by modal verbs, frequent word-combination ‘for Riley’, and directives.

Verdisco, Aimee, Jennelle Thompson, and Santiago Cueto. Early Childhood Development: Wealth, the Nurturing Environment and Inequality First Results from the PRIDI Database. Inter-American Development Bank, July 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0011753.

Abstract:
This paper presents findings from the Regional Project on Child Development Indicators, PRIDI for its acronym in Spanish. PRIDI created a new tool, the Engle Scale, for evaluating development in children aged 24 to 59 months in four domains: cognition, language and communication, socio-emotional and motor skills. It also captures and identifies factors associated with child development. The Engle Scale was applied in nationally representative samples in four Latin American countries: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Peru. The results presented here are descriptive, but they offer new insight regarding the complexity of child development in Latin America. The basic message emerging from this study is that child development in Latin America is unequal. Inequality in results appears as early as 24 months and increases with age. There is variation in inequality. For example, correlations with the socio-economic characteristics of the home and maternal education are stronger for cognition, and language and communication than for motor development. The environment within which children develop and the adult-child interactions predominant within this environment ¿ referred to in this study as the nurturing environment - is important for all domains of child development utilized in this study, although stronger associations appear for cognition, language and communication, and socio-emotional development. For all domains measured by the Engle Scale, the nurturing environment bears a statistically stronger correlation than the socio-economic endowment of the home or maternal education. Gaps between the development of children in the top and low extremes in these factors matter. By 59 months, the development of a poor and under-nurtured child will lag by as much as 18 months behind her richer and more nurtured peers. For this child it will be more difficult to recognize basic shapes like triangles or squares, count to 20, or understand temporal sequences. She will also have gaps in her basic executive functioning and socio-emotional skills, including empathy and autonomy. She will not likely be ready for school and may not have success once there. Notably, however, if this same child, in the same poor household, were to benefit from a nurturing environment, her level of development would rise and would start to approach levels found in children in richer but less nurtured households. The nurturing environment thus appears to mitigate the negative association lower levels of wealth have with the domains of development included in this study.

Abstract:
Kristi Shaw has completed an exceptional piece of research, providing critical analysis and originality in her dissertation Creating appreciation and community support for mothers caring for a child with anxiety disorder. She has completed a substantial dissertation that would achieve the goal of a thesis at a higher credit level. Shaw’s inside knowledge of caring for a child with anxiety disorder has been applied to this project. The research involves an ambitious application of appreciative inquiry to the task of supporting a group of mothers to take action on the needs of their children with high anxiety. She has made a strong case for addressing the problem of people globally experiencing increasing levels of anxiety and targeting the unique challenges for parents who have children living with the ‘invisible’ impairment of anxiety.
