Abstract:
Monsters have an established presence on screen as a cipher for queer identities. However, such presentations are often limiting, with queer monsters being either irredeemably evil or eliciting viewer sympathies for their helpless monstrous condition. Both forms of queer monster are highly queerphobic, but the issue this article takes with this representational binary is that it stifles the depictions of monstrous queer characters. To offer a counterpoint, I draw attention to BBC America’s Killing Eve (2018–22) and its queer monster Villanelle (Jodie Comer). I argue that Villanelle presents a new vision of the queer monster, where queerness and monstrosity are not interlocked parts of her characterization – a disconnect that allows her to be a more compelling monster and express her queerness in a plethora of ways. In this article, I focus on two ways in which Villanelle’s queerness manifests in the show: her fashion and style; and her sense of humour. I demonstrate that Villanelle’s queer humour and style provide her with a means to be a more dangerous and effective assassin, whilst also facilitating a means for expressing her queerness in complex ways. Her style, for example, enables her to dip in and out of both butch and femme aesthetics as she pleases and her humour provides a means to disarm her targets. In all, this article points towards Villanelle’s mercurial character as a positive form of queer representation, for her constant flitting creates a queer character who can be awful and provides a means for queerness to be displayed through multiple, yet legible, ambiguities.

Abstract:
What inspires people to become artists, athletes, scientists, and possibly even mathematicians? What ignites the spark of curiosity that drives young minds to explore science and mathematics so that they can try to unravel the mysteries of the world around them? How many of us have been profoundly affected by a passage in a book, the colors in a pain or an encounter with the elegant beauty and astounding power of mathematics? These questions suggest an approach that might be helpful to young students, many of whom are simply not motivated by the applications of mathematics to everyday life. An overview of mathematics, presented in a dynamic, compelling way, can give students new reasons to persevere in their studies. Although most people are aware of the utility of mathematics and its use in the sciences, relatively few know of its role in the development of Western culture, its influence on philosophy and the arts, and that it is a continually expanding field in which new and exciting things are being done.

Abstract:
There are stories people can tell you and there are stories that can only be experienced. When she stopped working as a journalist full time, writer and photographer Lynell George re-trained her focus—making the backdrop, the forefront—dusted off her camera and began taking notes, this time visual ones. Her project was to understand how often-used—but often poorly understood—terms like redlining, white flight, outmigration, gentrification, nostalgia, post-riots had shaped the look of Los Angeles landscapes. Her photography shows that some change happens so imperceptibly that we don’t yet have language for it.

Abstract:
The purpose of our study was to understand the nature of the reality show phenomenon in the system of mass communication through analysis of Ukrainian media market of reality shows. For this purpose we have used a broad methodological base: a descriptive method for identifying the features of reality show and journalism, a bibliographic method for processing scientific sources, an inductive method to determine the functioning of reality show, the method of comparative analysis to understand relationship between journalism and reality show, historic-typological method to classify reality shows, methods of generalization and structuring to develop a modern structure of mass communication. The main results of the research are the following: we found that reality show is a product of journalistic activity; the concept of “reality show” and “reality television” is clearly determined. Reality show is a format of a television product in which the actions and emotions of true people in real-life or in specially modelled situations are observed, characterized by accomplishment of unusual actions and constant commentary on everything that happens to them. This category includes competitions, dating, makeover, etc. Reality TV is a type of television program that demonstrates non-played situations in which real people, whether ordinary citizens or politicians and stars of show business, find themselves. The value of our research is that the correlation between reality show, its types and reality TV is clearly established. Reality TV consists of: 1) reality shows; 2) studio/gaming shows (talk show, late night show, game show), 3) broadcasting events (sports, music events, awards ceremony, etc.). Reality TV belongs to the category of entertainment television. In this study the classification of reality shows has been improved, a whole series of functions of the reality show programs has been identified (entertainment, information, recreation, education, social integration and public control), it is proved that reality show has a great potential in the context of mass communication.

Full text
Abstract:
We have used a 3-D studio to generate a situation of virtual aircraft landing with the object of investigating if everyone can solve this task successfully. A virtual surface was covered with green texture which had large grains. Landing had to be done at an angle of about 30°. The space above the surface was divided into seven adjacent layers. Landing began from the first layer and went through all the layers, the seven layer being adjacent to the surface. The task of the subject was to stop the virtual landing in a given layer by pressing a key and using only visual cues of approaching the surface. Seventh subjects participated in the experiment; each made about 180 – 300 trials. Two subjects showed the highest score (A-group); three could not solve this task at all (they worked at the level of guessing) (B-group); the remainder produced intermediate scores. At the same time all subjects were tested by means of standard verbal and nonverbal tests to evaluate the type of thinking. Subjects from the B-group had a clear verbal or mathematical type of thinking. On the contrary, subjects from the A-group had the highest scores in the Kettel and Raven tests (tests for nonverbal thinking). Moreover the two subjects from the A-group had the highest level of driver skill in comparison with the others. Thus individuals with poor nonverbal thinking appear to perform worse at sensory-motor activities such as driving and aircraft landing.

Abstract:
This article discusses a humor show which was initially aired on YouTube channel entitled “Bocah Ngapa(K) Ya”. This show particularly brings out humorous content with local dialects and exhibits local nuances of the Ngapak-speaking community. This phenomenological quality expressed by the Ngapak-speaking community as ‘self’ is understood as locality through which it connects the identity of the Ngapak-speaking community with a wider audience (global society). However, the locality displayed through such kind of shows can potentially perpetuate stereotyped identity. Thus, this article examines locality displayed in a particular humor show namely “Bocah Ngapa(K) Ya” which offers an alternative identity of the Ngapak-speaking community. Central to the analysis is an argumentation that the depiction of Ngapak people in “Bocah Ngapa(K) Ya” subverts their stereotyped identity. The purpose of this study is to reveal hierarchical identities and to present an alternative to view this local identity based on the local context and humor delivery in the humor show. The method employed is cultural studies approach in order to view this cultural phenomenon. Through this study, it is found that the locality performed in this humor indicates a contemporary identity for the Ngapak people in the current era, which posits Ngapak people beyond their prevailing identity.

Abstract:
In the modern world, tourism is a very dynamically growing industry with significant impact on the eco-nomic prosperity of many regions or even countries. The paper presents the geotourism potential of the 12 show (com-mercial) caves in Poland before and during the current pandemic time. Survey results demonstrate that caves are major geotourist attractions. In 2019, they were visited by a total of almost 950,000 people. The attendance might have exceed-ed even a million if the popular Mroźna Cave in the Tatras had not been temporarily closed to visitors due to a rockfall in winter period 2018/2019. In 2020, all the show caves combined were visited by a more than 390,000 people, which amounted to about 41% of the total attendance recorded for 2019. The most visited cave proved to be Smocza Jama (Dragon’s Den) in the centre of Kraków, which recorded almost 422,000 visitors in 2019. A preliminary assessment of the attractiveness of the caves as geosites is given. The most attractive caves as geosites were identified as: Bear Cave, Upper Wierzchowska Cave, and Bat Cave. It is possible to confidently assert that the celebration of the International Year of Caves and Karst (IYCK) in 2021–2022 will increase interest in caves and translate into a revival of cave tourism.
