Jessup, Karen J. "Teacher narratives of young people who show sexually harmful behaviour." Thesis, University of Sheffield, 2017. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/19170/.

Full text
Abstract:
Young people who show sexually harmful behaviour is a growing phenomenon. There is a host of research into the characteristics of young people and effective interventions yet there is little if any research into the phenomenon within schools. Underpinned by a social constructionist epistemology this study asks what narratives are available to talk about this phenomenon within schools and how adults in school view their role and the role of the school context. Using a focus group approach this study explores the narratives of a group of adults working in an inner city secondary school. Using thematic analysis, three narratives were interpreted from the group sessions; normal and not normal, identity of young people who show SHB and professional and personal voice. In addition, a theme of uncertainty was interpreted within each theme which offered insight into dilemmas and tensions in the narratives. Teachers in this study were positive about the role of school and recognised a role in supporting holistic needs of these young people. Future ways of working are discussed in relation to schools, teachers and educational psychologists.

Abstract:
Theater
M.F.A.
This thesis documents a production of the French playwright Moliere's comedy Tartuffe at Temple Repertory Theater in Philadelphia. Set in Philadelphia's Main Line, this production provides an updated version of the play that comments on religion in contemporary America. Tartuffe is one of the best comedies written by Moliere. Banned for many years, it deranged people and touched a very tender spot in 17th century French society. America has a very different approach to religion than France. The many churches in existence make this country a deist democracy as opposed to the French secular state. The use of religion in politics, the "in God we trust" on the dollar bill, and seeing people pray in restaurants before their dinner have dictated this production be set in contemporary America. The use of clown techniques helped in finding American archetypes that would fit the characters. Directing choices, designers and actors created a world that tells the story of a rich American family threatened by the extremist religious discourse of a hypocrite. All these choices try to honor the heightened style of Moliere's language and, here, of Ranjit Bolt's very modern and fluid translation.

Abstract:
A certain degree of anxiety amongst children and young people is common given the pressures that children and young people face but it becomes problematic when it starts to affect children’s emotional well being and willingness to go to school. Interventions to support school refusal behaviours have reported success with some individuals, however there are many individuals for whom these interventions are unsuccessful (Lauchlan, 2003). Whilst individualised intervention programmes may be important, the factors associated with successful involvement in cases of school refusal behaviour are unclear. The present study explored factors associated with successful involvement through completing an exploratory case study looking at two successful cases of school refusal behaviour retrospectively. The research sought the perceptions of the young person, their parent, school staff and professionals from health and education to identify what they perceived to be effective, how they understood these factors to be effective and what might have led to more success and why in semi structured interviews. Thematic analysis was completed to identify emerging themes to provide a dynamic and triangulated view about factors which were associated with success.A number of common themes emerged between the two cases and in both cases there were a number of interacting factors which appeared to be associated with successful involvement. These factors have been represented in the ecological model of successful reintegration. This model illustrates the role of psychological factors at the level of the child, factors supporting the psychological factors at the level of the child, factors supporting the family and the role of professionals and systems. In addition, the model recognises the influence of context and how the factors associated with success need to be understood within context. The model is discussed along with the implications of the findings for practice and future research with reflections on the research process made.

Karamagi, Sharon Benna Kyakyo. "'Becoming citizens': young people making sense of citizenship on a South African community radio station youth show." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1002898.

Full text
Abstract:
This research set out to investigate the role that community radio can potentially play as a space in which young people engage with their own role as citizens and, in so doing, participate in discussions that seek to address social problems in a community divided by class, income, gender and race. The study examines how a local community radio station - Radio Grahamstown - developed a youth programme Y4Yin which the producers of the show and its audience came together to negotiate the meaning of citizenship. The study examines whether this interactive programme was able to function as something like a public sphere where in young people were able to develop a greater sense of agency, at least in the realm of citizenship. Using evidence gathered through focus group discussions with a group of young school-going leamers, interviews conducted with the producers of the show Y4Y, and drawing on Dahlgren's elaboration of a functional public sphere, the research concludes that the show provided a useful platform for Grahamstown high school students to develop their own notions of citizenship and to, at least partially and tentatively, build some 'bridges' across the vectors of socio-economic division in the town. However, the research also concludes that the Y4Y producers often failed to use a mode of address contemporary to the youth and often did not use production techniques congruent with young people's cultural tastes. This limited the programme's appeal and its potential as an enabler of discussion about notions of citizenship and as a platform for social bridging. In addition, because of the producers' control over the choice of topics put up for discussion, open interaction was more limited than could have been expected. In addition, the study also concludes that various limitations to the leamers' freedom of expression (including their fear that teachers might be listening in to the shows) inhibited the programme's role as a deliberative public sphere where issues could be aired, common ground found, and solutions discussed.

Danaher, Patrick Alan, and danaher@usq edu au. "Learning on the Run: Traveller Education for Itinerant Show Children in Coastal and Western Queensland." Central Queensland University. Education and Innovation, 2001. http://library-resources.cqu.edu.au./thesis/adt-QCQU/public/adt-QCQU20060830.110820.

Full text
Abstract:
“Learning on the Run” refers to the educational experiences of the primary school children travelling along the agricultural show ‘circuits’ in coastal and western Queensland. This thesis examines those educational experiences by drawing on the voices of the show children, their parents, their home tutors and their teachers from the Brisbane School of Distance Education, which from 1989 to 1999 implemented a specialised program of Traveller education for these children (in 2000 a separate school was established for them). The thesis focusses on the interplay among marginalisation, resistance and transformation in the spaces of the show people’s itinerancy. It deploys Michel de Certeau’s (1984, 1986) concept of ‘tactics of consumption’ and Mikhail Bakhtin’s (1986a) notions of ‘outsiddness’ and ‘creative understanding’ to interrogate the show people’s engagement with their absence of place, the construction of their otherness and forms of seemingly unproblematic knowledge about their schooling. Data gathering techniques included semi-structured interviews with forty-two people between 1992 and 2000 in seven sites in Queensland - Mackay, Bundaberg (over two years), Emerald, Brisbane, Rockhampton and Yeppoon - and document collection. The thesis’s major finding is that the show people’s resistance and transformation of their marginalising experiences have enabled them to initiate and implement a significant counternarrative to the traditional narrative (and associated stereotypes) attending their itinerancy. This counternarrative has underpinned a fundamental change in their schooling provision, from a structure that worked to marginalise and disempower them to a specialised form of Traveller education. This change contributes crucially to understanding and theorising the spaces of itinerancy, and highlights the broader significance of the Queensland show people’s “learning on the run”.

Abstract:
This study aimed to explore perceptions and experiences concerning sexuality, contraceptives, unwanted pregnancy and unsafe abortion among young people in Kisumu, Kenya. The design of the study was inductive with a qualitative approach using personal in-depth interviews. Eight participants (four female and four male) were asked to describe their perceptions and experience concerning sexuality, contraceptives, unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortion. The result showed that culture and norms, misconceptions and gender based power in sexuality are factors that impact Sexual Reproductive Health among young people in Kisumu today. Unwanted pregnancy was described as a shame, a burden and a destroyed life which lead to many unsafely induced abortions. The findings indicate that youth interventions are important, such as engaging young men in unwanted pregnancy and thus unsafe abortions and to empower young women.

Abstract:
Its not rare to find in Brazilian television and radio, transmissions that bring ordinary peoples testimonials commented by experts, mainly psychologists. Marital fights, problems with children, quarrels with neighbors are some of the themes presented. Those are Brazilian versions of programs which circulate around the United States reaching Latin American and European countries, which the thematic, taken by their own national culture industry, diffuses a therapeutic discourse. Although the participants ideas manipulation and the sensationalism in the quest for audience are explanations for placing this kind of transmission, there are other senses that may be attributed when one gets closer to the reasons that mobilize those people to bring out stories and affairs once considered intimate. These other senses were the ones studied here. Thus, an approach close to that of the participants of No Divã do Gikovate (Gikovates Divan, Radio CBN), Casos de Família (Family Affairs, SBT) and Márcia (Marcia, Bandeirantes) guided this research. The social interactions on stage and backstage were ways to reach these two social groups involved in the production and consumerism of these cultural products. The study of these interactions led to different logics of production: a spontaneous demand between those who compose the transmissions cheered by Dr. Gikovate, and a production system of exhibition, which means a productive chain behind the television transmissions that reach professionals formally hired by the networks and people informally involved. Those interactions have also indicated groups with different mental universes, with specific expressive repertoire and affective appeal. Their integrants employ the therapeutic discourse, transforming it into logic of practice to be used in their affective life.

Tsui, Yu-tung Victor, and 徐宇彤. "Comparisons of shoe-length and shoe-width fitness in people with diabetes, diabetes sensory neuropathy and non diabetes." Thesis, The University of Hong Kong (Pokfulam, Hong Kong), 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10722/206513.

Full text
Abstract:
Introduction Ill-fitting footwear is one of the well-known risk factors causing foot ulceration in the diabetic population. Current literature for fitness of foot dimensions is insufficient, especially on foot-shoe length and foot-shoe width measurement in absolute numerical differences. The aims of the study were to compare and identify the footwear fitness in diabetic patients with peripheral sensory neuropathy, diabetic patients without peripheral neuropathy and non diabetes. Materials and Method Diabetes patients were assessed for peripheral sensory neuropathy by two sensory tests, 10-g monofilament test using 10-g Semmes-Weinstein monofilament and vibration perception threshold test using neurotheisometer. Abnormal results of both tests indicated diabetes sensory neuropathy. The dimensions of foot length and foot width were determined by the Brannock device while internal shoe length and internal shoe width were measured by an inside caliper. The mean of internal shoe-length difference and shoe-width difference of three groups were calculated and compared. Reference ranges of 10-15mm of shoe-length difference and 0-7mm were selected from past literature. The values of shoe-length and shoe-width differences were dichotomized into correct and incorrect fit category. Footwear fitness of the three groups was compared. Demographics of patients, information on self foot care, shoe size check and footwear habit were collected for correlation analysis. Results Data was collected from 20 diabetes patients with sensory neuropathy, 60 diabetes patients without neuropathy and 40 non diabetes controls. There were significant difference in shoe-length difference among three groups, with larger shoe-length difference in diabetic neuropathy group (left: 21.9mm, / right: 21.7mm), followed by non neuropathy diabetes (left: 15.2mm, / right: 15.5mm) and controls (left: 13.4mm, / right: 14.5mm) (left p=0.002 / right p=0.008). The shoe-length differences of both diabetes groups exceeded the reference range, indicating long footwear. No significant difference was reported related to shoe-width difference. Analysis of shoe fit category showed around 15-17% of diabetes patients were wearing correctly fit shoes in both length and width. A high prevalence of diabetes patient had ill-fitting footwear while nearly half of them wear shoes with correct width but incorrect length. There is nearly no correlations between shoe-length fit, shoe-width fit and frequency of self foot check, frequency of footwear size check and frequency of diabetic footwear education. Discussion Most diabetes patients wear ill-fitting footwear, especially those with peripheral sensory neuropathy when compared to control group. There is significant difference in shoe-length difference among the three groups, with reference to the 10-15mm range as the gap length allowance. Diabetic patients tend to wear long and loose footwear in this study even they had past foot education and practice proper self foot check regularly. These might imply incomprehensive proper diabetic footwear education and self footwear assessment in current diabetes care pathway. These components are essential in diabetes foot care and people with diabetes are highly recommended to select a pair of good fit footwear. Further research is required to standardize the methodologies of measurement in foot dimensions and footwear fitness as well as investigate on relations of additional foot parameters in shoe fitting.

Chapman, J. D. "Improving the design of the curved rocker shoe for people with diabetes." Thesis, University of Salford, 2014. http://usir.salford.ac.uk/31862/.

Full text
Abstract:
Introduction: Foot ulceration and re-ulceration are a serious problem in people with diabetes as the outcome can be lower limb amputation, reducing quality of life and increasing mortality. The pathogenesis of foot ulceration is multifactorial with neuropathy, alterations in foot structure, callus formation and increased plantar foot pressure. The most effective intervention for reducing plantar pressure is the curved rocker outsole. To date this design has been prescribed from clinical intuition rather than scientific evidence. Therefore the studies within this thesis aimed to improve our understanding of how to best to design, and also prescribe, a rocker sole. Methods: Ethical approval was obtained from the University of Salford and the NHS. Study 1 investigated the independent effect of varying the three outsole design features (apex angle, apex position and rocker angle) on plantar pressure in 24 people with diabetes and healthy participants. In-shoe pressure data was collected using Pedar-x and analysed using Matlab. Study 2 investigated the effect of varying apex position in combination with rocker angle, in 87 people with diabetes, and aimed to establish how many people would receive sufficient offloading when wearing a pre-defined rocker design. Study 3 investigated a new method of prescribing a rocker sole using artificial neural networks with an input of gait variables on 78 people with diabetes. Gait data was collected using Vicon and analysed using Visual-3D and Matlab. Results: The results of Study 1 suggested that fixing apex angle at 95° would be a suitable compromise to offload the high risk areas (medial forefoot). It also suggested that apex position and rocker angle needed more investigation. Therefore, in Study 2 the combined effect of two rocker angles and four apex positions were investigated. Despite some inter-subject variability, this study showed that over 60% of participants received sufficient offloading when walking in a mean optimal design. Furthermore, over 60% of people received sufficient offloading with the smaller rocker angle of 15°. The results in Study 3 showed there was low accuracy when predicting an individual optimal shoe using gait variables as inputs (34-49%). Conclusions: This project has shown it is possible to significantly reduce plantar pressures in people with diabetes with a well-designed rocker shoe (95° apex angle, individual apex position and 15° rocker angle). This finding paves the way for future clinical trials which could provide robust clinical evidence for the use of rocker shoes.

Swart, Jacques. "Leveraging shop floor management to create an organization of self managed people at SA canopy." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/d1013753.

Full text
Abstract:
All world class manufacturing organizations have shop floor management in place. Shop floor management principles and tools are utilised to plan and to react in out of control conditions. Shop floor management is also utilised to involve people in decision making and to encourage continuous improvement. Various shop floor management principles exist and are applied differently depending on the nature of the business, however all these principles are present in all the companies researched. SA Canopy currently applies very little or no shop floor management principles. To be able to achieve its objectives and mission set by the new shareholders, shop floor excellence must be achieved. The objective of the study was to establish shop floor management principles utilised by the automotive industry as well as best in class organizations. To achieve this, a comprehensive literature study was performed on shop floor management. A questionnaire and audit schedule was designed based on guidelines in the literature study in order to establish what shop floor management principles are being utilised in the industry. The researcher used random sampling methods in distributing the questionnaire. An internal audit of the companies was conducted to support the responses in from the questionnaires. The opinions of the various respondents were compared with the guidelines provided in the literature survey in order to indentify shop floor management principles which would be suitable for SA Canopy. The following main recommendations were made: In order for SA canopy to achieve its objectives the company needs to develop a mission statement for everyone to work towards; SA Canopy needs to become more customer and supplier orientated. This will improve the overall performance of the business in respect of cost, quality and output; It is important that SA Canopy promotes teamwork so as to create a culture of continuous improvement; Problem solving skills need to be developed in the organization; Roles of Supervision need to be clearly defined and development programmes need to be put in place for supervision; A management process similar to the “Plan, Do, Check, Action “needs to be put in place to ensure effective actioning and monitoring of improvements and performance of stakeholders.

Full text
Abstract:
Because of the long and entrenched history of Chinese medicine in Taiwan, people have traditionally incorporated this knowledge into their health care. With the appearance and growing acceptance of Western medical practices, multiple medical approaches have become more and more popular. Yet, despite the strong foundations of Western medicine in the treatment of cancer in Taiwan, the use of Chinese medicine continues to be popular (Lin, 1992, p. 114). The focus of this research is the contextual construction of meanings about non Western medicine (NWM). The context for the study is Taiwan, the researcher's home country. The purpose of the research is to explore the motivations for, and the processes by which, Taiwanese people with cancer incorporate NWM into their cancer treatment journey. Utilising a grounded theory approach, this research sought to explore the social processes by which Taiwanese people with cancer come to use non Western medicine. Twenty four in depth interviews were undertaken in the study. The findings of the study demonstrate that the interactions between people with cancer and their use of NWM are complex. Taken-for-grantedness emerges as the core category in the study. The core category situates the use of non Western medicine outside the institutionalised and regulated domains of health care. More specifically, the meanings attributed to NWM are embedded in the philosophical beliefs and social relationships that constitute the lives of the participants. These findings suggest implications for our understanding of the co-existence of NWM and Western medicine by Taiwanese people with cancer and the social processes with which they engage.

The theoretical part describes the physical nature of the technology and then describes algorithms which can be used to monitor using it to monitor the movement of people. In the practical part, I have developed a concrete algorithm which can be used to monitor customer queues and cash registers in shops and inform the cashiers when their presence is needed, as well as gather impersonal GDPR-compliant data about the customer's habits. Afterwards, I have developed a visualization for the Windows platform, which can be used to communicate with the radar, manage its configuration, visualize the events in real time and perform further analysis of the measured data.

Full text
Abstract:
Few students of History understand the derivation and/or origin of the Gqunukhwebe oath "Ndifung' uChungw' efel' ennyameni: I swear by Chungwa who is lying dead at Mnyameni (Alexandria)." A desire to eludicate this point and other related facts inspired me to undertake a close examination of the history of the Gqunukhwebe people, selecting as my main theme the life-work of Chief Kama. In the first chapter I am discussing the creation of the Gqunukhwebe Chiefdom under Khwane by the Xhosa King, Tshiwo. The central theme here is the Black-White confrontation of the 17th - 18th centuries on the Cape Eastern Frontier. As a result of the collision the Gqunukhwebe people were forced to make a home on the banks of the Thwecu River along the east coast. It was here that Kama reached early manhood. The second chapter describes the establishment of Wesleyville Missionary Station by William Shaw in 1823, the first Methodist Missionary Institution in all Xhosaland. In chapter three the discussion centers on the significance of Kama's conversion. An unforeseen outcome of his public profession of the Christian faith was that it not only stigmatized the latter religion as a force destructive of the old order in Xhosa society, but it also reshaped Kama's political image for the good of his religious life. He not only fled from the neighbourhood of his relations and sojourned in a strange land, but also reinforced the Colonial forces in the contemporary frontier struggles. His integrity, self-sacrifice and pro-Colonial inclination eventually won him Middledrift. Chapter four opens with Kama's settling in Middledrift. The theme here is two-pronged. It presents the 'Cattle-Killing' delusion as a source of new trials for the 'priest-chief', and at the same time exposes the Colonial Government's efforts to gain ascendancy above the Xhosa chiefs. Kama's land was the first testing ground in this respect, and the Chief was initially agreeable to the scheme. Chapter five alludes to instances of Chief Kama's unco-operative attitude as signs that his compromising spirit had its limits. An atmosphere of disregard towards Kama pervades the period. But the adversities that threatened to dominate his later life did not by any means shake his Christian principles and convictions. The traces of his good works may to this day be seen in Middledrift, the traditional home of the Kamas.

The object of this study is to establish the relationships between poetics of film, film history and the claim of an interpretation based upon a literary background and a philosophical point of view. A "metafilm" is not just one more "movie-about-themovies". This study will attempt to show how, from show people to fedora, the hollywood tradition provides a real discourse of the film

Abstract:
Primed information is more accessible in memory and can thus easily be recognized. Prerequisites for priming include subliminal perception, goals, reliability, non alert and non habitually. The study aims to gain broader understanding regarding subliminal primings influence. The purpose of this thesis was to see whether the customers in a store could be manipulated, primed, to take a specific colour on plastic bags at checkout and if there are any gender differences in the effect of priming. Participants were 490 customers, of whom 333 men. Two different signs with different colours were placed at the checkout. It was noted if customers chose the primed colour of the plastic bag or not. The results showed a significant difference, the participants chose the same colour on the plastic bag as the sign. No gender differences were found. Research shows that priming effects can be opposed if people make themselves aware of potential unconscious influences.

This study examines the production of podcast by a Singaporean blogger Lee Kin Mun, a.k.a. Mr. Brown. He and his team have been utilizing the outcome of a technological convergence — podcast, in a most creative way to express their political views. By its own unique style of satire, Mr. Brown Show has survived in this city state’s closely regulated Internet sphere. In addition, it emerged as a good example of citizen journalism, providing survival tips for local alternative media. It remains to be seen, however, in what way Mr. Brown Show or its likes can make a difference on Singapore’s online democracy.

The development of Taiwan's television Broadcasting, since 1962 to present, taking the variety program as an example, has evolve from solo and conservative talk show, gradually transformed into multi-dimensional and with vast audience base. In 1995, the TVBS channel introduces the f “2100 Citizens open speech”. It is broadcasted life, and open to audiences to respond, formed the first of the political conversational program which open up the dialogue between the talk show hosts and the audiences. In 2002, with Chung Tien introduction of “2100 Citizen random speech”, In it’s initial period, no matter from the angle of its name, the scenery, the actor, music, even broadcasts time and interval, clearly follow the political commentating talk show of “2100 citizens open speech”. In 2004, the “2100 Citizen Random Speech”, later transform into “Citizen Mix-Pot Speeches of the Random Speeches”, by than the program content has differed from its original “2100 Citizen Open Speeches”, except for its real life broadcasting. It also no longer limits itself in it’s impersonating of the political figures and their dialogue; it has developed into a band-new program of its own. In 2007, the talk show changed its name to “The Largest Party of People”. This third generation talk show label itself as the people’s boss, and is the longest running imitation talk show in Taiwan “The Largest Party of People” although is not Taiwan first show with impersonating as its main theme, it is the first such variety show that poke fun with the politician in an easy and light-hearted manner; an original in its style. This research, by way of observing the evolution of “The Largest Party of People” hope to further analyze the characteristics of life theater and Television programs from the angle of Aristotle’s six elements; main theme, the plot, role, dialogue, music and scenery, as the base of canalization, to proved that the television presentation concise with the theater four big characteristics; real-time life, timing, flow, and artistic contain, achieve a good match when crossing over. This study also hopes that by observing the flow, contain and its artistic contribution of the talk show, ”The Largest Party of People”, to further understand, analysis and study its method of presentation. Also, by way of “Higher level of talk show”, to understand how the production process and development of the program.By method of “Participating and observing”, to observe and record its findings directly. And finally, by applying “Simple and spontaneous” method, analyze it’s contain. The finding of my study is as follow: 1 ” The Largest Party of People”, it’s them and thought is to reflex the voice of people, through the actors’ presentation. 2 The actor’s performance is determined by the role his is to impersonate. 3 The independent, open and smaller stage can give the performers even more room for expression. 4 The flow between actors holds the key for the show to success or otherwise. Keys words:” The Largest Party of People”, Television variety show, Variety program, Imitate, Theatrical factors.

Any individual is able to produce and receive contents anywhere at any time. Live streaming has become the hot ticket in this era with the advent of self-media. Eating is among the variety of topics in live streaming. Eating is our daily routine. Neither can we learn from eating, nor can we gain the excitement from such content on live streaming, but the amazing part is that it can still become a gimmick on live streaming. By reviewing other’s researches on live streaming, most of them take gaming live streamings as their targets to investigate on the audience’s motivation. However, the audience’s purposes of watching different type of streamings are different. Furthermore, most gaming streamings are famous professional E-sport player, eating streamers are nobody at first, making the content more distinctive. Media and diet culture with different characteristics reflect the uniqueness of each era. From television cooking shows to eating streaming, what the relationships among audience, technology and diet are is what this research focus on. This research is based upon two theories: spectacle/performance paradigm and media spectacle theory to analyze the culture of eating streaming. Conducting textual analysis of two different eating streamers’ videos. The research shows that the contents and meanings of eating streamings mostly follow the trend of industrial infotainment. Instant interaction between the streamer and the audiences make the whole streaming diversified. All the participants are both the viewer and the performer. In the meantime, by immersing themselves into eating streaming, they feel the companionship, pleasure, projection, time killed, practicability and the characteristics of streamer. The relax atmosphere is what attract the audiences, but the commercialized content cannot be avoid. Stunning plots are what catches the audiences’ eye.

This paper focus on two levels of Television Rhetorical Criticism, one is “Rhetorical Format”, another is “Rhetorical Vision”. For example of “The largest party of people”, the framework and the research methods are The Rhetoric of Humor by Karyn Rybacki and Donald Rybacki and generic criticism of rhetorical criticism. To generalize four volumes of “Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA)”, I analyzed the frequency of the punch line of 7 humor skills in “The largest party of people”: parody, wordplay, invective, irony, satire, sarcasm, wit. Further to realized what the rhetorical format and rhetorical vision are and the meanings of the presentation of rhetorical properties. The result of “The largest party of people”, “Irony” is used most often. It’s the humor basic pattern of setup and punch line to transfer from the anger and grumble. By poking fun at a practice or belief. The satire can function as a conservator of culture, defending it against people and institutions that threaten its existence. In addition, I also discovered that, at the beginning of three volumes, the topic of the show is criticizing the procedures of ECFA by Ma’s Administration. After the debate between Ma Ying-jeou and Tsai Ing-wen, the topics of the show was changed to the abilities of policy implementation of Ma’s Administration. It’s shows two issues. One is that it’s difficult to appear the political neutrality of producer. Another is that the producer will follow the program rating of audience in Taiwan to change their contents. It seems that the criticism presentation of the program, however, it only copy the original social ideology and follow the point of the most audience.

For nearly a century stretching from the early years of the Republic of China, the Japanese occupation to the retrocession of Taiwan, the ZHANGs worked relentlessly for their shadow show business. In order to demonstrate the so-called absent presence, origin of the traditional script and make the audience be used to watch the show the way people did in old days, the Donghua Shadow Show is making every effort to highlight interpretation and preserving old practices on one hand, on the other, the performance group tries to incorporate its solid essence in different stories arranged in a parallel way, a move that helps reform traditional theater resources by taking in country legends. Eventually, their dramas more attractive. At Donghua, absent presence, a main issue in the traditional Chinese Theater that many times turns out to be embarrassing and hard to deal with, is demonstrated in reformed literature of multiple meaning. Stories in the traditional scripts are written again by incorporating customs of Taiwanese people that help the shadow show carry aestheticism of old days and reflect practicality of present time. In this article, we try to figure out its narration approaches with traditional languages that reflect de confined existence of art. The other issue of study is the demonstration of literal performance in historic scenes. We are talking about artistic demonstration of the common people and materialization of history. According to publications of the Ministry of Education and theaters contributed by sound casting, it is determined that the Donghua Shadow Show is mainly to entertain its audience by following the artistic practices in market rules. Besides detailing changes in the profit-culture interactive system experienced by artists, sorting out culture propagation and brokerage behavior, Donghua highlights the art-generating area in contrast to the commercialized market. Fairy plays and performances required by religion are involved, just as the 3-in-1-religion phenomenon that is common in Taiwan and vivid in shadow shows. Fortunately, based on the schedule of performance, artists have come out with a time section for shadow show scripts without sense of time that fits scripts of both old and new stories. What does not change is people, that is to say, audience is key and history remains as it is. Literature meanings shall not be confined, nor should it be interpreted from the point of culture, the meanings change along with language scenes in the process of construction. Thus will make a shadow show an aesthetic demonstration by a new historian. Eventually, countless performances will reflect understandings and reconstruction of the original view of the script, including questions raised by the writer to the script and other areas involved in the reflection to the script. Understanding of the meaning of a work does not necessarily mean understanding of the nature of the script alone; it involves changes with time and making good use of leisure as a way of living. Amid play and story telling, Taiwan’s popular art performance is in a newly merged horizon. As performance of figures is key to the art of shadow show and sometimes it is more important than the script. Compared to the figurines on the wood engravings of early days, what makes the two common in artistic demonstration is a major issue in this article too. If shadow show were available in computerized animation, would it become more accessible to the youth? Could the 3D surface treatment giving shadow show additional depth be feasible? When such an issue is involved, we would then try to redesign shadow show with computerized animation. Just imagine the scene of a shadow figure in a 17th-Century stage with a large painting as background that deepens the stage itself, an engraving at the same time, the shadow figurines would be playing beyond light and shadow.

Abstract:
" S2Learning on the RunS3 refers to the educational experiences of the primary school children travelling along the agricultural show circuits in coastal and western Queensland. This thesis examines those educational experiences by drawing on the voices of the show children, their parents, their home tutors and their teachers from the Brisbane School of Distance Education, which from 1989 to 1999 implemented a specialised program of Traveller education for these children (in 2000 a separate school was established for them). The thesis focusses on the interplay among marginalisation, resistance and transformation in the spaces of the show peoples itinerancy. It deploys Michel de Certeaus (1984, 1986) concept of tactics of consumption and Mikhail Bakhtins (1986a) notions of outsiddness and creative understanding to interrogate the show peoples engagement with their absence of place, the construction of their otherness and forms of seemingly unproblematic knowledge about their schooling. Data gathering techniques included semi-structured interviews with forty-two people between 1992 and 2000 in seven sites in Queensland - Mackay, Bundaberg (over two years), Emerald, Brisbane, Rockhampton and Yeppoon - and document collection. The thesiss major finding is that the show peoples resistance and transformation of their marginalising experiences have enabled them to initiate and implement a significant counternarrative to the traditional narrative (and associated stereotypes) attending their itinerancy. This counternarrative has underpinned a fundamental change in their schooling provision, from a structure that worked to marginalise and disempower them to a specialised form of Traveller education. This change contributes crucially to understanding and theorising the spaces of itinerancy, and highlights the broader significance of the Queensland show peoples S2learning on the runS3. Clarke, Tyler James. "Diaphragm injury in people shown post-mortem." Thesis, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/10576.

Full text
Abstract:
Exertion induced diaphragm muscle injury has been shown in several animal models, however, substantial evidence in humans is still forthcoming. The purpose of this study was to describe and quantify diaphragm morphology in humans and relate injury to clinical factors including: age, body mass index (BMI), gender, acute respiratory disease, and/or chronic respiratory disease. Biopsies from 59 subjects undergoing autopsy were examined. Full-thickness diaphragm biopsies were obtained from the lateral costal region of the diaphragm and fixed in formalin. Biopsies were paraffin embedded, sectioned at 5 μm and stained with H&E and Masson's trichrome. Diaphragm cross-sections were viewed at 400x using light microscopy and images from multiple fields for each cross-section were captured using a SPOT digital camera and the Image Pro Plus 4 computer program. A 64- point grid was superimposed on each image and the points were assigned to 1) normal; 2) abnormal if the fiber had internal nuclei or abnormal cytoplasm, if it was inflamed, necrotic, degenerated, small or angular; or 3) connective tissue. The area fraction (AA) was determined by summing the points for each category, and dividing it by the total points for the cross-section. Immunohistochemistry was also performed on diaphragm cross-sections using the APAAP method for the monoclonal antibody NP57 against human neutrophil elastase molecule. A retrospective chart review was performed to determine the age, gender, BMI and the presence of acute respiratory disease(s) and/or chronic respiratory diseases(s). Of the 59 subjects, 20 were females and 39 were males. In this group of subjects, two women were undernourished and ten men were obese considering a normal BMI range of 18.5 - 27.3 kg/m² for women and 18.5 - 27.8 kg/m² for men. Mean ages for men and women were 65.5 + 13.7 yrs. and 72.4 + 24.5 yrs. (p < 0.05). Thirty-eight subjects had acute respiratory disease, 33 had chronic respiratory disease, 22 had a combination of acute respiratory disease superimposed on chronic respiratory disease, and 10 had neither acute nor chronic respiratory disease. Analysis by the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test showed the following differences. Men had more abnormal diaphragm (31.6 + 15.8%) and less normal (51.6 + 21.2%) diaphragm than women (19.3 + 10.7% and 65.3 + 15.5%, respectively) (p< 0.015) (Figure 11, upper panel). Men (65.5 + 13.7 yrs.) were younger than women (72.4 +24.5 yrs.) (P<0.049). Men with acute respiratory disease compared to men without acute respiratory disease had more abnormal diaphragm morphology (35.69 +14.34% vs. 24.61 +16.46%) (PO.021) (Figure 11, upper panel), less normal diaphragm (45.08 +18.26% vs. 63.98 +21.6%) (p<0.006), and more connective tissue (19.23 +11.17% vs. 11.40 +6.73%) (P<0.021). Analysis of the whole group of patients (both M & F) showed trends toward more abnormal diaphragm in those with acute respiratory disease (Figure 13, lower panel) or chronic respiratory disease (Figure 11, lower panel) compared to those without (P<0.067 and P< 0.082, respectively). Patients with acute respiratory disease compared to those without showed a trend toward less normal diaphragm (PO.067) (Figure 13, upper panel). Lastly, men with chronic respiratory disease were older (mean age 69.8 yrs) than men without chronic respiratory disease (mean age 58.7 yrs.) (P<0.048). Neutrophils were quantified in the diaphragm of 38 subjects (22 with chronic respiratory disease and 28 with acute respiratory disease). The mean number of neutrophils per fiber was 0.0044 (0 to 0.06) and the mean number of neutrophils per cross-sectional area was 1.46 (0 to 22.8). We conclude that the diaphragm in humans is susceptible to exertion-induced diaphragm injury represented by abnormal diaphragm morphology and inflammatory cell infiltrates. Men are more susceptible to diaphragm injury. Likewise, individuals with acute respiratory disease and/or chronic respiratory disease tend to have more abnormal diaphragm.

Continuous improvement on the shop floor management and teamwork supporting are the main factors for the growth of a mature organization. Therefore, to collect the voice of shop floor people is very important for the manufacturing company. In this study, three scholars, P.Z.B., proposed the concept of measuring internal service quality. According to A Company''s characteristics, there are five dimensions of the questions made into scaled template. Then, through questionnaire survey to the shop floor people within A company, we try to understand their feedback on the perceived internal service quality as following, 1). Whether to narrow the negative affection between staff and supervisor via the implementation of Job Relations program on the basic management skills; 2). Clarify the influence between supporting functions and shop floor people. Finally, through the empirical analysis we find the results as below, 1). Personal competency (tangibles), reaction abilities (responsiveness), service attitude (reliability), problem solving (assurance), and management team’s daily assistance (empathy) have rather impact on the internal service quality satisfaction. 2). On the result of discriminant analysis, each discriminant ratio is above 80% and also demonstrated that the survey can be the effective measures for the future study.

Abstract:
"Shut the Gate" was a project initiated and sponsored by the Beef Cattle sub-Committee of the Mackay and District Agricultural, Pastoral and Industrial Association Inc., in collaboration with Central Queensland University. Its goal was to research, write and publish an attractive, engaging and informative account of the history of cattle showing in Mackay, with particular emphasis on the relationship between the regional industry and the 123 year old annual Mackay Show. While the project throws considerable light on the influence that cattle showing has had on the development ofthe beef industry, and the important role it plays in generating and maintaining a positive awareness of the industry among town folk, it is essentially about people. The book celebrates the trials, tribulations and triumphs of those who breed, raise, and compete with beef cattle in the Mackay district. "Shut the Gate" was a commissioned work, with the Beef Cattle sub-Committee its primary sponsor. The essential brief was to prepare 'a readable social history' for possible publication. This in effect meant that the book needed to be written in a style accessible to its anticipated target audience, such as participants in the beef industry, rural primary producers, regular patrons of the Mackay Show, and local history enthusiasts. Its content and tone therefore, reflects this audience. It is a work ofacademic scholarship presented in the form of a textually accessible local history that is not only informative but also a pleasurable experience for the intended reader. The book is introduced by a dissertation that reflects on the research and writing process.
