Abstract:
The proliferation of surcharges in service pricing raises theoretical and pragmatic questions regarding their impact on consumers. This research investigates how surcharges influence consumer responses to a service price increase. We propose that various kinds of surcharge information act in concert to drive blame attributions for a price increase: Internal (vs. external) surcharges increase blame attributions and minimize the influence of other drivers captured in surcharge information such as temporal stability, surcharge benefit, and more than one kind of surcharge. In comparison to all-inclusive pricing, we find that (i) surcharge pricing is detrimental to service firms when surcharges cue internal locus of causality, regardless of the temporal stability or surcharge benefit, whereas (ii) surcharge pricing is beneficial when surcharges cue external locus of causality, particularly when the surcharges are permanent and high benefit; (iii) consumers are more sensitive to increases in the magnitude of internal (vs. external) surcharges; and (iv) in the case of mixed surcharges, internal surcharges are more prominent and minimize the buffering effect of adding external surcharges. Based on our findings, we make recommendations to managers on the optimal design of surcharge pricing to mitigate negative blame reactions when communicating service price increases to consumers.

Abstract:
In-line holography was Gabor's idea to record the interference patterns between the directly transmitted beam and the diffracted beams (hologram), and subsequently to determine the amplitude and phase of the object from the hologram by some reconstruction procedures. As has been pointed out by many authors, a fundamental limitation of in-line holography is that the reconstruction will produce two superimposed images, the desired real image of the object and a defocused, aberrated, conjugate image. Although this conjugate image could be completely removed by introducing off-line holography, efforts continued to reconstruct in-line holograms with the least conjugate image disturbance. Lin and Cowley suggested that by using the scanning ability of STEM, it could be possible to reduce this disturbance. Here we want to further check and develop the applicability of this method.

Abstract:
Abstract Objective: Biased information processing towards negative content is associated with depressive disorders and may be reduced by training attention away from dysphoric stimuli (attention bias modification training, ABM). Empirical findings are mixed concerning ABM outcomes within depressed clinical and analog samples, which may reflect methodological differences (e.g., reaction time- vs. eye-tracking-based measurement), and individual attention-shifting differences. This study tests attention-shifting as a moderator of ABM outcomes among adults with depression histories via reaction-time and eye-tracking-based paradigms. Method: Adults (N=197, Mage=26.83, 46% female, n=28 depressed) completed psychiatric interviews and received dot-probe-based ABM (n=126) or sham training (SHAM-ABM) (n=71) in 3 laboratory sessions. Across training conditions, respondents viewed sad-neutral same-actor face pairs with incongruent trials (probe following the neutral face) comprising 85% of the 288 session trials in ABM vs. 50% in SHAM-ABM. Training effects reflect pre-to-post-training change in average reaction times to incongruent (vs. congruent) image-probe trials via another dot-probe task and times to first visual fixation across same-actor sad-neutral face-pairs in response to visual prompts (i.e., a shape framing the target face) collected through E-prime 3.0 and the Tobii x2-60 system. Attention-shifting indexes time-to-first-fixation across neutral-neutral face-pair trials. Results. Pre-training attention-shifting differences moderated training effects when shifting attention away (but not towards) sad faces (F=3.98, p=.047): slow attention-shifting predicted rapid sad-face disengagement for those in SHAM-ABM (ΔM=-61ms, F=7.96, p=.005), but not other conditions. No other training effects emerged for eye-tracking and reaction time indices. Conclusion: Findings support the utility of measuring attention processes via eye-tracking methods, and the need to account for individual attention-shifting differences.

Abstract:
This paper uses a risk-shifting model to analyze policy responses to asset price booms. We show risk shifting leads to inefficient asset and credit booms in which asset prices can exceed fundamentals. However, the inefficiencies associated with risk shifting arise independently of whether the asset is a bubble. Given evidence of risk shifting, policymakers may not need to determine if assets are bubbles to justify intervention. We then show that some of the main candidate interventions against asset booms have ambiguous welfare implications: tighter monetary policy can mitigate some inefficiencies but at a cost, while leverage restrictions may raise asset prices and lead to more leveraged speculation rather than less. Policy responses are more effective when they disproportionately discourage riskier investments. (JEL D82, E23, E32, E44, E52, G01, G12)

Abstract:
Dahari, Zainurin. "The effect of price and health information in shifting young children [sic] preference towards healthier food." UWA Business School, 2007. http://theses.library.uwa.edu.au/adt-WU2008.0011.

Abstract:
Young children have becoming an important target by marketers. Marketers have used many strategies to influence their food choices including advertising and free gifts. According to literature, young children, are cognitively vulnerable and may make unhealthy decisions about their food choices that could lead to serious problems associated with being overweight and obese. This thesis examines whether price and health claim information can shift young childrens' choices towards healthier foods. Most of the previous published research literature has focused on adults. Those findings, using surveys and experiments, suggest that adults' food preferences and choices can be influenced by setting price and by providing health information. These findings suggest that these strategies may have a potential effect in young children decision making. The literature on Children Socialization and Information Processing Theory in consumer behaviour suggests that most young children under 8 are not cognitively skilled to use price and health claim information for their decision making. Nonetheless, most 5 to 8 year olds are making purchases of food at their school canteen several times a week. In order to test for the effects of price and nutrition information, several experiments that used discrete choice modelling were conducted to determine their choices, the reliability of their choices and the between their experimental choice behaviour and their choice in the market place. More than one hundred young children, aged from five to eight years old, completed the discrete choice experiments conducted in two primary schools in the suburbs of Perth. The choice experiments on subjects that had previous experience with the food items, but did not know their relative nutritional value, showed a strong positive effect of price. In other words, higher priced options were often in more demand. Although this may appear a poor response to price by an observer, children have little knowledge of food costs, so they may use price as a surrogate for quality. Price level was also a main effect in reducing the share of unhealthy choices. The results of the analyses also show that young children can provide reliable choice decisions within 5 months of experiment. However, their experimental choices were not associated with their later choices in the canteen. These findings provide evidence of the effectiveness of price and health claim information in changing young childrens' preference toward healthy choices, and the potential usefulness of using discrete choice techniques to shift children to more healthy food options.

Abstract:
Among the Executive Functions (FE), the capacity of set-shifting that is the ability to quickly and flexibly program responses changing during the course of work (Best et al., 2009), is poorly investigated in the developmental age. To date, there are no data about set-shifting skills in Italian school-age children. Moreover, the role of the Executive Functions (EFs) in dyslexia is still unclear. In the recent literature several studies find dyslexia to be associated with an EFs impairment (Beneventi at al. 2010; Willcutt et al., 2005), whereas other authors don’t find any association between dyslexia and difficulties in EFs tasks (Marzocchi et al., 2008). Moreover, the main studies evaluating EFs both in typically developing children and dyslexics have mainly focused on planning and problem solving, and working memory (e.g., Best et al., 2009; Reiter et al., 2005) while only few studies have focused on set-shifting. The set-shifting seems to have a central role in the linguistic elaboration, because it permits to rapidly switch between tasks or mental sets (Best et al., 2009). The aims of our study is to administer the alternate verbal fluency test of Costa et al. (2014) to a large sample (n=879) of children and adolescents (from eight to eighteen) in order to collect normative data referring to the developmental age and to investigate the ability of set-shifting in 72 students with a diagnosis of developmental dyslexia (DD). Three abilities were assessed: the Phonemic Fluency (PF), Semantic Fluency (SF) and Alternate Fluency (AF) (Costa, 2014). The results suggest that set-shifting ability of children and adolescents improves with age. Data show a significant difference between the two groups (DD and ST) in two of three tasks (PF and AF). We found a lower performance in DD with respect to controls (PF, p = .039 and AF, p < .001). Moreover, both the two groups, compared to what is shown in adulthood (Costa et al., 2010), showed more difficulties in the PF task rather then in the SF and AF tasks. In conclusion, this study supports the hypothesis of difficulties in the executive component represented by set-shifting in adolescents with dyslexia. These data underline the importance of considering this EF in the clinical evaluation and in the description of the cognitive profile of these children and adolescents.

Abstract:
The electricity price changes depending on the time of the day in most countries. In Sweden there is a spot price that changes every hour while China uses Time of Use (ToU) tariff. To avoid the most expensive hours this degree project investigates the feasibility of using lithium- ion batteries to shift the load of an industrial air compressor. The Depth of Discharge and the State of Charge (SoC) for the battery are analyzed to find the optimal use of the battery. Through simulations in MATLAB the degradation-curve and State of Charge were analyzed, which was further used for economics analysis. The feasibility of the system is evaluated by using payback time and Net Present Value (NPV). Results show that a battery has a slightly longer lifetime when it is working in a SoC of 50-70%, but a larger SoC is more profitable from the perspective of NPV. For the SoC of 0-100%, the NPV is about ~9683 US$. Compared to Sweden, using batteries to shift load is more profitable in China, which is mainly due to the high electricity prices. For the same air compressor, the payback time is 5 and 15 years for the investment of batteries in China and Sweden respectively.

The most popular investment and financial tool in today sociality is stock market, the stock market is the place with public and transparent environment to make deal. However, it’s really exsiting “asymmetric information” phenomenon. The information revealed after stock price going up/down that it against information property – information spreading process and effectiveness. In this situation, it’s not beneficial for the retail inventors who relaying on this information to do investment. In this study, it will investigate how it effect on firm’s revenue and stock pricing when blockholder shareholding ratio shifted in short period. The result shows: (1). The blockholder shareholding ratio shifting duration with 3 months and 6 months, the shareholding shifting ratio at +-5%~10%, +-10% ~20%, or above +-20%, that it would have significant difference at YoY revenue growth ratio for coming 3 months. (2). the blockholder shareholding ratio shifting for 6 months and shareholding shifting ratio above +-20% that would have significant difference at stock pricing for coming 3 months. The result of this study will be a useful reference for investors who would like to understand what significant difference between the blockholder shareholding shifting ratio in short period, firm’s revenue and stock price.

Abstract:
AbstractIn 2009, Guadeloupe experienced a historic 44 day-long strike against the high cost of living. The union-led collective (LKP) leading the strike used calculations and figures as a weapon to prove that players holding dominant market positions captured undue profits (“pwofitasyon”). Also, official price indexes were subjected to radical political criticism by the LKP actors. Yet, by using averages, these calculations could not account for the existence of individual abusive prices. The “statactivistic” momentum resulted in a shift of the legitimate price measurement methods. Calculation was, however, also the collective’s Achilles heel. LKP members’ use of numbers established only a temporary favourable balance of power in the negotiations. It was not enough for them to compete with the state’s calculative skills on an equal basis.

Abstract:
This chapter studies another central feature of prose poetry: the use of metonymy and metaphor. Metonymy allows writers to use phrases or individual words in ways that suggest an array of meanings, enriching and adding complexity to their writing — and there are many kinds and examples of metonymy, just as there are many kinds of metaphor. Metonymy is especially important to prose poems because it complements, enhances, and complicates their literal and metaphorical meanings. The chapter then discusses the importance of such figurative language to reading and interpreting individual works, allowing an understanding of the ways in which many prose poems simultaneously present a variety of possible (often shifting) interpretations. It also looks at prose poetry's resonant employment of intertextuality to enrich its content.

Abstract:
Abstract Multi-speed transmissions with 2–3 speed are considered to be an effective and compact equipment for pure electric vehicles’ (PEV) dynamic and economical improvement. However, the characteristics of fewer gears and larger speed ratio gap not only request uninterrupted shifting quality but also smooth pedalpower pattern to derive demand power of motor from drivers’ input. Due to these features of multi-speed transmissions for PEV, using one fixed pedal-power pattern in conventional ways will cause output torque shock after shifting or force drivers to passively adjust the pedal for constant acceleration. A speed-based unified pedal-power pattern (SUPP) is proposed to interpret the demand power of motor according to the vehicle speed instead of motor speed. The SUPP contains three components including a base, a feedforward and a feedback part to satisfied the different dynamic request under different gears and different speed. Furthermore, the SUPP is integrated with the innovative clutch-to-clutch shifting algorithm which achieves uninterrupted shifting on PEV, and realizes in optimal trajectory of motor operating points during and after shifting. A case study of SUPP is conducted with a two-speed transmission for PEV through both simulation and experiments. The simulation and experimental results prove that the SUPP is able to obtain uninterrupted wheel torque during and after shifting with constant drivers’ intention, and prevent drivers from unnecessary adaptation.

Abstract:
We are pleased to present the proceedings of Rangahau Horonuku Hou – New Research Landscapes, an online research symposium collaboratively organised by Unitec and Manukau Institute of Technology in December 2021. Although face-to-face interactions are usually considered preferable, shifting to an online symposium during the Covid-19 pandemic facilitated a high degree of engagement from Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics across the mōtu, and enabled greater ease of attendance and programme navigation for participants. Unitec’s blended online and face-to-face 2020 symposium received 21 presentations from outside Unitec; this collaborative symposium received 65, including those from MIT. Along with the highly successful national ITP symposium hosted by Weltec/Whitireia and Open Polytechnic, this testifies to an increasing trend toward research collaboration across the sector. This is particularly encouraging as we enter into the final stages of integration and the full formation of Te Pūkenga, at the time of writing.

Abstract:
Abstract Traditional intervention operations with coiled tubing (CT) in extended reach horizontal wells might be difficult to access due to lockup from frictional forces and operational inefficiencies. Using conventional shifting tools requires multiple runs to shift open and close multiple sliding sleeve doors (SSD). This paper is a case study of an electric-line powered shifting intervention operation to shift open an SSD, circulate fluids though the sleeve and into the annulus, and then close and repeat this for another SSD in a long horizontal well—all in a single run. The paper discusses the different methods that can be used to efficiently seek and latch onto the shifting profiles using a tractor, wireline cable, and the shifting tool itself with an inchworm motion. The electric-line shifting tool monitored and verified the opening and closing of the sleeves in real time using its onboard sensors. These techniques were effectively deployed in multiple wells that required the annulus to be displaced with fluid after running smart completions. The completions were installed in the well with the SSDs in a closed position, and the shifting intervention consisted in opening the SSD, pumping fluids through the sleeve, and closing the SSD. The tool was anchored in place in the wellbore during the entire circulating operation, and the SSD was subsequently closed. This operation was then repeated on the second SSD in the wellbore, and the entire operation was completed in a single run. Also, no additional caliper run was needed as the shifting tool verified the position of the SSDs. These methods were used in a long horizontal well with the help of real-time measurements. The tool measurements identified if the SSDs were in open or closed position or anywhere in-between. The shifting tool provided confirmation via its measurements that the sleeve was not partially open. This was particularly important when pumping fluid through the annulus to achieve the maximum flow through the sleeve. Operating using electric-line was extremely efficient and eliminated the need to perform multiple runs, thus achieving time savings on the rig. This is the first time that a paper discusses the different seek methods that can be used for carrying out a electric-line mechanical intervention operation. It represents a novel method using a shifting tool as a caliper to probe and measure the completion inner diameter changes while seeking for the profile. It provides a valuable method for reliably and confidently locating and latching onto a shifting profile. Finally, this is the first time that a paper correlates the theoretical mechanics of shifting a sliding sleeve with consistent results from system integration tests and downhole measurements from the real job.

In this work, a mechanical optimization to generate uniforms spaced phase-shifts for extracting the phase difference between a reference and a probe object in a double aperture common path interferometer, is proposed. Analytical calculations and simulations of the mechanical gear system are shown. The transmission system was designed to increase the precision and control of the transverse translation of a diffraction grating in order to obtain homogenous phase-shifting.

Abstract:
This paper describes investigations into unsteady flow phenomena in a high turning linear cascade with a nominal steady flow. A fast response five hole probe was used to obtain time-accurate measurements. Since a single probe was used to traverse an entire measurement plane, the results were obtained as discrete points and were not synchronous. One method used to address this issue is to traverse the measurement plane point by point and record the signal of a reference probe simultaneously. Synchronization can be performed during post processing by analyzing the reference signal for a common periodic component and phase-shifting all signals with respect to the reference phase of that flow feature. This paper presents results from the application this unsteady reconstruction technique to the so-called Durham Cascade 28% downstream of the trailing edge in order to provide insight into the nature of the dominant unsteady mode. It was found that there was significant temporal variation in the strength of the passage vortex but the position of the vortex remains fixed.

Abstract:
This map is situated in the Hyland Plateau, west of the Mackenzie Mountains, southeast Yukon. The area was inundated by the Cordilleran Ice Sheet during the Late Wisconsinan glaciation. Ice advanced east to northeast across the rolling bedrock terrain, producing dense networks of sometimes cross-cutting bedrock flutings and drumlinoid ridges. During deglaciation, ice flow became increasingly topographically constrained, shifting to more northward flow along major valleys. Meltwater flowing north initially crossed the divide into the Nahanni River basin. Later, as ice retreated south and eastwards, ice-contact deltas and kame terraces formed along the retreating margins. The area is largely covered by till veneer, with bedrock exposed along most ridge crests and glacially-incised valley walls. Shale units within the Besa River and Mattson formations appear prone to failure, and large rotational landslides are common.
