Abstract:
Mangrove degradation tend to increase due to excessive human activity such as land conversion, wood extraction for construction and fuel wood and nonmetallic extraction. The utilization of fruit of mangroves-in certain limits- can be an alternative way to convert the destructive utilization into more environmentally friendly one. This study aims to determine three types of flour i.e Sonneratia spp fruit flesh flour (SFFF), Rhizophora mucronata fruit skin flour (RSFF) ; and Rhizophora fruit flesh flour (RFFF). Since the utilization of SFFF is more developed in community than RSFF and RFFF, the SFFF is examined more than the two next. The analysis was conducted at the Laboratory of Center for Agro-Based Industry and Laboratory of Study Center for Biopharmaca, Bogor Agricultural Institute. The examination of SFFF covered antinutrient content (tannin and cyanide acid (HCN)), heavy metal (Pb, Mn, Cu, Hg and As) and biological contaminants (total plate count, Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella sp, mold and yeast). The examination of RSFF and RFFF covered only tannin as antinutrient and Pb, Mn, Cu, Hg and As as heavy metals. The results showed that SFFF met the SNI Standards for tannin, HCN, Hg, As, E.coli, B. cereus, Salmonella sp, molds and yeasts while the Cu and Mn did not. RSFF and RFFF met the standards for tannin, Hg and As, while Pb, Cu dan Mn content did not. These content may be reduced by increasing the soaking and boiling time.

Abstract:
AbstractThe observational study of star formation laws is paramount to disentangling the physical processes at work on local and global scales in galaxies. To this aim we have expanded the sample of extreme starbursts, represented by local LIRGs and ULIRGs, with high-quality data obtained in the 1-0 line of HCN. The analysis of the new data shows that the star formation efficiency of the dense molecular gas, derived from the FIR/HCN luminosity ratio, is a factor 3-4 higher in extreme starbursts compared to normal galaxies. We find a duality in the Kennicutt-Schmidt laws that is enhanced if we account for the different conversion factor for HCN (αHCN) in extreme starbursts and correct for the unobscured star formation rate in normal galaxies. We find that it is possible to fit the observed differences in the FIR/HCN ratios between normal galaxies and LIRGs/ULIRGs with a common constant star formation rate per free-fall time (SFRff) if we assume that HCN densities are ∼1–2 orders of magnitude higher in LIRGs/ULIRGs, and provided that SFRff∼0.005-0.01 and/or if αHCN is a factor of a few lower than our favored values.

In celebration of the Pacific Film Archive at 50, Josslyn Luckett, a former student of PFA programmer and UCBerkeley professor Albert Johnson reflects on the global reach of his career and legacy. One of the founding “co-conspirators” of Film Quarterly, Johnson presented African, Asian, and Latin American cinema at the PFA for three decades, while programming U.S. directors from Vincente Minnelli to Melvin Van Peebles across the globe. While Johnson became known for his iconic “Craft of Cinema” profile series at the San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF), this article highlights under-acknowledged aspects of his film curation and writing, including his early championing of many of the independent Black directors known now as the L.A. Rebellion.

Ovarian growth and function is under the control of pituitary gonadotropins and various local intraovarian factors. The present study has been undertaken to assess the efficacy of crude follicular fluid and steroid free FF taken from bovine ovaries on some hematological aspect as well as ovarian growth and function of mature female Wistar rats. Follicular fluid aspirated from large size Graffian follicles of abattoir – derived bovine ovaries was made cell free by centrifugation and steroid free by charcoal treatment. follicular fluid ‎ has been fractioned using ammonium sulphate precipitation at various saturation levels and then subjected to get filtration chromatography. The 20 – 40% fraction yielded the detectable peak and the average yield of peptide was 0.659 mg/ml of FF . The crude and steroid free FF were tested for effects on some hematological parameters and ovarian and uteri weights, numbers of different types of ovarian follicles and assessment of histophysiological appearance. Twenty four mature female Wistar rats were randomly assigned into three equal groups (control and two treatment groups), injected with normal saline (Control), SFFF (T1) and CFF (T2) for 4 consecutive days. At the fifth day, all female rats were anesthetized, dissected and blood samples were obtained for hematological study and ovaries and uteri were removed , weighted and fixed in formalin 10% for histophysiological study . The results revealed no significant effects in Hb concentration , PCV , AST , concentrations, cholesterol , urea , and glucose concentrations . On the other hand , the result revealed no effect on uteri and ovarian weights , an increment in the numbers of primary and secondary follicles and a decrement in the number of Graffian follicles . Within each group , the results showed that primary follicles recorded the highest number among the different types of ovarian follicles. While the highest total number of the different types of ovarian follicles were recorded in CFF and SFFF groups compared with control . The present study demonstrated no side effect on blood constituents as well as the effect of a bovine intrafollicular factor/s regulating ovarian growth and function in rats , especially the development of primary and secondary follicles unlike Graffian follicles which underwent from the inhibition .

Abstract:
ABSTRACTFatigue behaviour of titanium reinforced with TiB particles fabricated by ‘plasma transferred arc solid freeform fabrication’ (PTA-SFFF) technique was investigated. Rotation bending fatigue tests were conducted following the MPIF 56 standard using the staircase method approach. Experimental data is used to calculate the fatigue strength and construct S-N curves, where the results were compared to a powder metallurgy FC0205 as a benchmark material. The titanium samples were found to exhibit superior fatigue behaviour in comparison to the reference FC0205 material, performing well above 1/3 of its ultimate tensile strength with a 90% survival fatigue strength of 244 +/- 98.3 MPa versus 141 +/- 17.4 MPa. Fatigue failure mechanisms of samples were identified by examination of the fracture surfaces through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as well as using transmission-electron microscopy (TEM) and focused ion beam (FIB) analysis techniques. Fatigue crack propagation was either arrested or deflected when propagation occurred within the vicinity of the TiB intermetallics. Fracture surfaces of the titanium matrix displayed evidence of striations while the TiB intermetallic experience cleavage fracture.

Abstract:
To succeed at developing a nationwide Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS), stakeholders in academia, government, and industry must forge and maintain strategic partnerships. The South Florida Ocean Measurement Center (SFOMC) is such a partnership model and mutually beneficial collaboration that is conducting year-in and year-out major at-sea operations, sustaining the operation of a complex array of sub sea sensors, and providing the maintenance and the shore-based infrastructure to support both. The transformation of a longstanding, narrowly focused, and somewhat antiquated (but highly capable) Navy test and evaluation facility is described. Formerly plagued with a decreasing customer base and increasing operational costs, the Center's transformation into this now fully integrated coalition has mitigated these forerunners of extinction while answering both Navy and academic needs. The successful partnership has resulted in modern facilities, a broad customer base, and steadily decreasing costs of operation. Examples are provided that demonstrate the ability of the Navy's South Florida Testing Facility (SFTF) to realize user cost savings and to aid in the convergence of interest and capabilities among a variety of user groups toward the solution of problems of national concern, including naval research, homeland security, and environmental stewardship.

Abstract:
The brain-computer interface provides the excellent potential to address nervous system-related activity. The function of the nervous system work between internal brain control and external human body physical structure. Some parts of the human body cannot generate the signal for the processing of the human brain, cannot recognize and identify human body parts' activity—the motor imagery EEG classification approach helps resolve such types of critical illness cause of death. The dimension and structure of motor imagery-based EEG data are very high and unsupported behaviors. The machine learning and another classification algorithm cannot handle these variants of EEG data directly. For the process of better classification of motor imagery, EEG needs transformation and extraction. The transform-based feature extraction process such as DCT, DWT, SFTF and some other harmonic frequency-based applied. In this paper presents the details analysis of feature extraction and classification algorithms for motor imagery EEG classification. The machine learning provides three types of an algorithm for classification, supervised, unsupervised and semi-supervised. This paper mainly focuses on the supervised machine learning algorithm. For the analysis of machine learning algorithm use BC competition-IV dataset. MATLAB software is used as a tool for the code of algorithms and measures standard parameters such as accuracy, sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract:
In this work, fatigue improvement through shot peening of an additive manufactured Ti–TiB block produced through Plasma Transferred Arc Solid Free-Form Fabrication (PTA-SFFF) was investigated. The microstructure and composition were explored through analytical microscopy techniques such as scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM, TEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). To investigate the isotropic behavior within the additive manufactured Ti–TiB blocks, tensile tests were conducted in longitudinal, diagonal, and lateral directions. A consistent tensile behavior was observed for all the directions, highlighting a nearly isotropic behavior within samples. Shot peening was introduced as a postmanufacturing treatment to enhance the mechanical properties of AM specimens. Shot peening led to a localized increase in hardness at the near-surface where stress-induced twins are noted within the affected microstructure. The RBF-200 HT rotating-beam fatigue machine was utilized to conduct fatigue testing on untreated and shot-peened samples, starting at approximately 1/2 the ultimate tensile strength of the bulk material and testing within low- (<105 cycles) to high-cycle (>105 cycles) regimes. Shot-peened samples experienced significant improvement in fatigue life, increasing the fitted endurance limit from 247.8 MPa for the untreated samples to 318.3 MPa, leading to an increase in fatigue resistance of approximately 28%.

Abstract:
The utility of polymers in the present decade is consistently increasing, giving scope to many applications from automobiles to prosthetics. Polymers used for solid free-form fabrication (SFFF), also known as 3D printing, comprise a quick fabrication process adopted by many industries to increase productivity and decrease the run time to cope with the market demands. In this research work, pure polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) and multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-PETG with an electroless metal layer coating and without a coating are discussed. The effect of the electroless metal layer coating on the reinforced PETG-MWCNT results in improved mechanical, tribological, and other surface properties. Pure PETG was incorporated with MWCNT nanofillers at 0.3 wt.% and extruded as a filament through a twin screw extruder with a 1.75 mm diameter and printed on ASTM standards. Tensile testing was performed on all four types of un-coated pure PETG, PETG-MWCNT, and metal-layer-coated PETG and PETG-MWCNT with a coating thickness of 26, 32, 54, and 88 μm. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed that the coated PETG-MWCNT had the highest storage and loss modulus. The heat deflection temperature was improved to 88 °C for the coated PETG-MWCNT. The wear volume against the sliding distance at a load of 40, 50, and 60 N showed that the coefficient of friction decreased with an increase in the load. The scratch test results revealed the lowest penetration depth and lowest friction coefficient for the coated PETG-MWCNT sample. The water contact angle test showed that a greater coating thickness makes the sample surface more hydrophobic, and the microhardness test indicated that the indentation hardness value for the PETG-MWCNT was 92 HV. The study revealed that the metal-layer-coated PETG-MWCNT had better performance compared to the other specimens due to a good metal layer bonding on the PETG substrate. It was concluded that adding MWCNTs to a metal layer electroless coating improved the surface and mechanical properties of the PETG, and this may be suitable for many applications.

Abstract:
The downstaging of gastric cancer has recently gained particular attention in the field of gastric cancer surgery. The phenomenon is mainly due to an inappropriate sampling of lymph nodes during standard lymphadenectomy. Hence, collection of the maximum number of lymph nodes is a critical factor affecting the outcome of patients. None of the techniques proposed so far have demonstrated a real efficiency in increasing the number of identified lymph nodes. To harvest the maximum number of lymph nodes, we designed a protocol for on-site macroscopic evaluation and sampling of lymph nodes according to the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association protocol. The procedure was carried out by a surgeon/pathologist team in the operating room. We enrolled one hundred patients, 50 of whom belonged to the study group and 50 to a control group. The study group included patients who underwent lymph node dissection following the proposed protocol; the control group encompassed patients undergoing standard procedures for sampling. We compared the number and maximum diameter of lymph nodes collected in both groups, as well as some postoperative variables, the 30-day mortality and the overall survival. In the study group, the mean number of lymph nodes harvested was higher than the control one (p = 0.001). Moreover, by applying the proposed technique, we sampled lymph nodes with a very small diameter, some of which were metastatic. Noticeably, no difference in terms of postoperative course was identified between the two groups, again supporting the feasibility of an extended lymphadenectomy. By comparing the prognosis of patients, a better overall survival (p = 0.03) was detected in the study group; however, to date, no long-term follow-up is available. Interestingly, patients with metastasis in node stations number 8, 9, 11 or with skip metastasis, experienced a worse outcome and died. Based on our preliminary results, the pathologist/surgeon team approach seems to be a reliable option, despite of a slight increase in sfaff workload and technical cost. It allows for the harvesting of a larger number of lymph nodes and improves the outcome of the patients thanks to more precise staging and therapy. Nevertheless, since a higher number of patients are necessary to confirm our findings and assess the impact of this technique on oncological outcome, our study could serve as a proof-of-concept for a larger, multicentric collaboration.
