Abstract:
Mangrove degradation tend to increase due to excessive human activity such as land conversion, wood extraction for construction and fuel wood and nonmetallic extraction. The utilization of fruit of mangroves-in certain limits- can be an alternative way to convert the destructive utilization into more environmentally friendly one. This study aims to determine three types of flour i.e Sonneratia spp fruit flesh flour (SFFF), Rhizophora mucronata fruit skin flour (RSFF) ; and Rhizophora fruit flesh flour (RFFF). Since the utilization of SFFF is more developed in community than RSFF and RFFF, the SFFF is examined more than the two next. The analysis was conducted at the Laboratory of Center for Agro-Based Industry and Laboratory of Study Center for Biopharmaca, Bogor Agricultural Institute. The examination of SFFF covered antinutrient content (tannin and cyanide acid (HCN)), heavy metal (Pb, Mn, Cu, Hg and As) and biological contaminants (total plate count, Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella sp, mold and yeast). The examination of RSFF and RFFF covered only tannin as antinutrient and Pb, Mn, Cu, Hg and As as heavy metals. The results showed that SFFF met the SNI Standards for tannin, HCN, Hg, As, E.coli, B. cereus, Salmonella sp, molds and yeasts while the Cu and Mn did not. RSFF and RFFF met the standards for tannin, Hg and As, while Pb, Cu dan Mn content did not. These content may be reduced by increasing the soaking and boiling time.

Abstract:
AbstractThe observational study of star formation laws is paramount to disentangling the physical processes at work on local and global scales in galaxies. To this aim we have expanded the sample of extreme starbursts, represented by local LIRGs and ULIRGs, with high-quality data obtained in the 1-0 line of HCN. The analysis of the new data shows that the star formation efficiency of the dense molecular gas, derived from the FIR/HCN luminosity ratio, is a factor 3-4 higher in extreme starbursts compared to normal galaxies. We find a duality in the Kennicutt-Schmidt laws that is enhanced if we account for the different conversion factor for HCN (αHCN) in extreme starbursts and correct for the unobscured star formation rate in normal galaxies. We find that it is possible to fit the observed differences in the FIR/HCN ratios between normal galaxies and LIRGs/ULIRGs with a common constant star formation rate per free-fall time (SFRff) if we assume that HCN densities are ∼1–2 orders of magnitude higher in LIRGs/ULIRGs, and provided that SFRff∼0.005-0.01 and/or if αHCN is a factor of a few lower than our favored values.

In celebration of the Pacific Film Archive at 50, Josslyn Luckett, a former student of PFA programmer and UCBerkeley professor Albert Johnson reflects on the global reach of his career and legacy. One of the founding “co-conspirators” of Film Quarterly, Johnson presented African, Asian, and Latin American cinema at the PFA for three decades, while programming U.S. directors from Vincente Minnelli to Melvin Van Peebles across the globe. While Johnson became known for his iconic “Craft of Cinema” profile series at the San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF), this article highlights under-acknowledged aspects of his film curation and writing, including his early championing of many of the independent Black directors known now as the L.A. Rebellion.

Abstract:
Ovarian growth and function is under the control of pituitary gonadotropins and various local intraovarian factors. The present study has been undertaken to assess the efficacy of crude follicular fluid and steroid free FF taken from bovine ovaries on some hematological aspect as well as ovarian growth and function of mature female Wistar rats. Follicular fluid aspirated from large size Graffian follicles of abattoir – derived bovine ovaries was made cell free by centrifugation and steroid free by charcoal treatment. follicular fluid ‎ has been fractioned using ammonium sulphate precipitation at various saturation levels and then subjected to get filtration chromatography. The 20 – 40% fraction yielded the detectable peak and the average yield of peptide was 0.659 mg/ml of FF . The crude and steroid free FF were tested for effects on some hematological parameters and ovarian and uteri weights, numbers of different types of ovarian follicles and assessment of histophysiological appearance. Twenty four mature female Wistar rats were randomly assigned into three equal groups (control and two treatment groups), injected with normal saline (Control), SFFF (T1) and CFF (T2) for 4 consecutive days. At the fifth day, all female rats were anesthetized, dissected and blood samples were obtained for hematological study and ovaries and uteri were removed , weighted and fixed in formalin 10% for histophysiological study . The results revealed no significant effects in Hb concentration , PCV , AST , concentrations, cholesterol , urea , and glucose concentrations . On the other hand , the result revealed no effect on uteri and ovarian weights , an increment in the numbers of primary and secondary follicles and a decrement in the number of Graffian follicles . Within each group , the results showed that primary follicles recorded the highest number among the different types of ovarian follicles. While the highest total number of the different types of ovarian follicles were recorded in CFF and SFFF groups compared with control . The present study demonstrated no side effect on blood constituents as well as the effect of a bovine intrafollicular factor/s regulating ovarian growth and function in rats , especially the development of primary and secondary follicles unlike Graffian follicles which underwent from the inhibition .

Abstract:
ABSTRACTFatigue behaviour of titanium reinforced with TiB particles fabricated by ‘plasma transferred arc solid freeform fabrication’ (PTA-SFFF) technique was investigated. Rotation bending fatigue tests were conducted following the MPIF 56 standard using the staircase method approach. Experimental data is used to calculate the fatigue strength and construct S-N curves, where the results were compared to a powder metallurgy FC0205 as a benchmark material. The titanium samples were found to exhibit superior fatigue behaviour in comparison to the reference FC0205 material, performing well above 1/3 of its ultimate tensile strength with a 90% survival fatigue strength of 244 +/- 98.3 MPa versus 141 +/- 17.4 MPa. Fatigue failure mechanisms of samples were identified by examination of the fracture surfaces through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) as well as using transmission-electron microscopy (TEM) and focused ion beam (FIB) analysis techniques. Fatigue crack propagation was either arrested or deflected when propagation occurred within the vicinity of the TiB intermetallics. Fracture surfaces of the titanium matrix displayed evidence of striations while the TiB intermetallic experience cleavage fracture.

Abstract:
Flip-flops and latches are important elements of a digital system design in terms of both a delay and energy stand point. The choice of flip-flop implementation is of essential importance in design of VLSI integrated circuits for high speed, low power and high performance CMOS circuits. In this work, low-power pulse triggered flip-flop (P-FF) designs namely Explicit Type Data-close-to-output (ep-DCO), Conditional Discharge Flip-flop (CDFF), static CDFF and a true single phase clock latch based on a signal feed-through scheme (SFTFF) are studied. Former three fall under conventional P-FF and have limitation of long discharging path issue whereas SFTFF design successfully resolves this and achieves better speed and power performance. The timing parameters for Simulation results are obtained using PTM BSIM4 CMOS 90-nm technology, SFTFF design performs better than the conventional P-FF designs in view of data-to-Q delay.

Abstract:
This chapter examines Unheeded Cries, South Korea's official submission to the fourth San Francisco International Film Festival (SFIFF) in 1960, which tells the story of postwar orphans in the slums of Seoul. It discusses the Berlinale, San Francisco, and Asian Film festivals that consistently invited South Korean films to their competition sections during the first half of the 1960s. It also mentions the occupied force's cultural representative, Oscar Martay, who promoted Berlin as the Western cultural showcase of the East. The chapter reviews how SFIFF was organized and managed by Irving “Bud” Levin, whose ultimate aim was to raise his profile to become an international-level figure. It elaborates the Asia Foundation's (TAF) attempt to use SFIFF to showcase non-communist and ideologically correct Asian films for mainstream American society.

Abstract:
The mission of the Transmutation Research Program (TRP) at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is to establish a nuclear engineering test bed that can carry out effective transmutation and advanced reactor research and development effort. UNLV has developed a multi-function software package, TRPSEMPro, to interact with the chemical separation process developed by the Argonne National Laboratories (ANL). As indicated in the Spent Fuel Treatment Facility (SFTF) process requirement, developing a software package system with the capability of optimizing facility process based on the pre-defined objective functions can be valuable for the SFTF. The objective is to further extent the TRPSEMPro framework to integrate chemical separation calculation package AMUSE (Argonne Model for Universal Solvent Extraction) with commercially available system process package (ASPEN-plus). A development concept of middleware is employed to build communication between the AMUSE code and the ASPEN-plus. Since the object-oriented designed ASPEN-plus software package exposes its parameters as well-defined objects, the TRPSEMPro can directly access its variable trees through the object call. Due to the complicity of the system, a scenario-based database system will be developed associated with the chemical separation and system processes. A light-weight MS ACCESS database is selected for easy maintenance and accessibility. The database manages the scenario parameter files with associated separation results and outputs from the system process packages. A comprehensive SFTF process simulation will greatly facilitate the evaluation of overall systems options. Such simulation is gradually becoming important for down-selecting reactor types, fuel types, and multi-recycle modes. Optimization tool associated with the TRPSEMPro system engineering model intends to speedup the possible chemical separation parameters.

Abstract:
The mission of the Transmutation Research Program (TRP) at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is to establish a nuclear engineering test bed that can carry out effective transmutation and advanced reactor research and development effort. TRPSEMPro package, developed from previous project period, integrated a chemical separation code from the Argonne National Laboratories (ANL). Current research focus has two folds: development of simulation system processes applied to Spent Fuel Treatment Facility (SFTF) using ASPEN-plus and further interaction of ASPEN+ program from TRPSEMPro interface. More details will be discussed below. ANL has identified three processes simulations using their separation technologies. The first process is to separate aqueous acid streams of acetic acid, nitric acid, water and a variety of fission product nitric salts. Distillation separation method is used to remove the desired components from the streams. The second simulation is to convert plutonium nitrate to plutonium metal. Steps used for the process simulation are precipitation, calcinations, fluorination and reduction. The third process currently under development is vitrification of fission product of raffinate streams. During the process, various waste streams from the plant are mixed and fed to a process that converts them to a solid state glass phase. The vitrification process used by the Hanford and Savannah River facilities was selected as a guideline to develop the prototype simulation process using ASPEN-Plus. Current research is focusing on identifying unit operations required to perform the vitrification of the waste streams. The first two processes are near completion stage. Microsoft Visual Basic (MS VB) has been used to develop the entire system engineering model package, TRPSEMPro. Currently a user friendly interface is under development to facilitate direct execution of ASPEN-plus within TRPSEMPro. The major purpose for the implementation is to create iterative interaction among system engineering modeling, ANL separation model and ASPEN-Plus process that outputs optimized separation/process simulation results. The ASPEN-plus access interface from TRPSEMPro allows users to modify and execute process parameters derived from the ASPEN Plus simulations without navigating through ASPEN-Plus. All ASPEN-plus simulation results can be also accessible by the interface. Such integration provide a single interaction gateway for researchers interested in SFTF process simulation without struggling with complicate data manipulation and joggling among various software packages.
