Denna uppsats fokuserar på röstspärren i lag (1973:1150) om förvaltning av samfälligheter 12 och 49 §§ (SFL). Röstspärren liknar den 20%-regel som fanns i gamla ABL och som togs bort därifrån år 1999. Bägge reglerna stoppar någon med andelar högre än en femtedel vid en om-röstning. Denna likhet väcker frågetecken om en gemensam bakgrund trots skillnaden mellan aktiebolag och samfälligheter. Den väcker också frågor kring varför röstspärren anses befogad vid omröstning på delägarsammanträde/föreningsstämma men inte längre vid en bolagsstäm-ma. Detta arbete har därför gått bakåt i tiden och undersökt ett eventuellt släktskap mellan de båda reglerna. Uppsatsen har också försökt utröna om röstspärren har någon effekt för samfäl-ligheter i dagens Sverige. Det kan ju vara så att röstspärren utgör en ”blindtarm” i SFL, precis som den gjorde i ABL innan den togs bort. De områden där röstspärrens effekter undersökts är i storkvarter, tredimensionellt avgränsade fastigheter, ägarlägenhetsfastigheter samt enskil-da vägar.
I detta arbete har visats att röstspärren såsom den ser ut i dagens SFL, har sina källor i vat-tenlagen från år 1918. Därifrån har regeln tagits från 1910-års ABL som i sin tur bygger på bolagsordningar från 1800-talet. Röstspärren och 20%-regeln har alltså gemensamma rötter i 1800-talets bolagsordningar. I detta arbete finns också klara indikationer på att röstspärren används i väldigt liten omfattning idag. Några vittnesmål om att röstspärren skulle fungera som ett effektivt skydd har inte hittats. Däremot finns det många betänkligheter kring regelns eventuellt negativa effekter för samfälligheter där ägarlägenhetsfastigheter och/eller tredimen-sionella fastigheter ingår. Detta arbete har således fastställt en historisk koppling mellan två lagregler som ej längre tillämpas i någon högre grad. Den ena är upphävd, den andra lever kvar men börjar bli omdebatterad. Slutsatsen av detta arbete är därför att regeln bör ses om och förslagsvis, i ett första steg, göras dispositiv och i förlängningen avskaffas.

Full textThere has been a great deal of research exploring Halliday’s (1978, 1994, 2004)Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) approach. However, there has been little work that specifically targets SFL to explore African discourse. Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) views language as “social semiotic”, that is, language is functional in terms of what it can do or what can be done with it; and semantic in that it is used to make meanings (Halliday’s, 1978). This study explores SFL to analyse narratives of identity as told by Yoruba students at three Western Cape Universities: University of the Western Cape (UWC), University of Cape Town (UCT) and University of Stellenbosch (SUN). This research is both quantitative and qualitative in outlook and results of the study are presented. I used the qualitative method to collect and analyse the data; but a certain amount of quantitative analysis was presented as well in order to determine the predominant identity options favoured by the students. A total of 14 Yoruba students were interviewed for data collection which was analysed with SFL interpersonal metafunction theoretical approach. Specifically, the study examines linguistic choices that the students utilize to maintain and reconstruct their identities in Cape Town. This concentrates on the aspects of Mood component combining Subject and Finite element, Residual component comprising Predicator, Complement and Adjunct as well as Modality in participants’ narratives. Besides, an important aspect of the study was the consideration given to ethical issues. Analyses are presented on tables showing the frequencies of the interpersonal elements as configuration for preference use of different Subjects, Finites, Predicators, Complement and Adjuncts to either strengthen or weaken positions. Equally, the metaphorically expressions of objectivity to highlight the continuities and contradictions in the students’ narratives of identity in the diaspora was considered. These serve as interpersonal elements used by participants for stylizing and personalizing different identities options. Also, the study presents how the students organize their message for cohesion/coherence in their narratives. Thus, SFL establishes how the linguistic choices of the students reflect identity options in their new environment. The study shows the strengths of systemic-functional approach in its integration of what the students said, with what they might mean within the situation in which they said them. Finally, I conclude that these elements of interpersonal metafunction framework make participants’ narratives coherent while revealing the different identities they appropriated in the diaspora.

Full textUm obstáculo à maior transferência industrial do processo de Soldadura por Fricção Linear (SFL) são os defeitos nas juntas soldadas. Os defeitos na raiz são os mais significativos, designadamente, a falta de penetração e o alinhamento de óxidos, ambos consequência do deficiente fluxo visco plástico de material na extremidade inferior do pino da ferramenta. Estes defeitos são os mais importantes porque são os mais difíceis de evitar e os mais difíceis de detetar. Contudo, a sua existência reduz drasticamente a resistência mecânica das juntas soldadas, sobretudo sob esforços de fadiga. O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver e testar uma nova variante do processo de SFL, tendo em vista reduzir ou eliminar os defeitos na raiz. A variante proposta consiste em adicionar externamente uma fonte de energia suplementar na raiz da soldadura para aumentar o fluxo visco plástico de material nessa zona. Propôs-se a geração de calor por efeito de Joule, fazendo passar uma corrente elétrica de elevada intensidade para facilitar a deformação plástica do material. Foi produzido um protótipo funcional, envolvendo ferramentas e acessórios de SFL dedicados, instrumentação e software. Foram desenvolvidos modelos analíticos e numéricos para simulação do processo, e foram realizadas várias soldaduras na liga AA6082-T6 para validação da metodologia. As simulações confirmam a validade do conceito para intensidades de corrente elétrica da ordem de 800 A, e o protótipo cumpriu os requisitos inicialmente estabelecidos. Contudo, os resultados da análise metalográfica apenas revelaram uma redução significativa dos defeitos em um dos ensaios. Os resultados das medições de microdureza e de mapeamento de condutividade elétrica não evidenciaram alterações metalúrgicas devido ao efeito de Joule. Este trabalho permitiu estabelecer um importante conhecimento processual nesta variante da SFL, bem como identificar as futuras medidas corretivas, tendo em vista a melhoria dos resultados.

Full textDen här undersökningen handlar om hur flickor respektive pojkar i en årskurs fem använder värderande uttryck i sina narrativa texter. 22 elevtexter, 11 skrivna av flickor och 11 skrivna av pojkar, har analyserats enligt Appraisal framework. Jag har undersökt hur många och vilka typer av värderande uttryck eleverna använder och även hur de har fördelat uttrycken över texterna i förhållande till den narrativa berättelsestrukturen. Resultaten visar att flickorna använder värderande uttryck i större utsträckning än pojkarna. Fördelningen över de olika typerna av värderande uttryck liksom fördelningen av uttrycken över texten är dock ganska likartad för flickorna och pojkarna.
This study concerns the use of evaluation in narrative texts written by pupils in fifth grade. More specifically the focus is on the way that boys and girls use evaluative language in their texts. 22 texts, 11 written by boys and 11 written by girls, have been analysed according to the so-called Appraisal framework. I have examined what types of evaluations the pupils use and how they adopt the use according to the narrative text structure. The results indicated that the girls used a larger amount of evaluations than the boys did. On the other hand the boys spread their evaluations among the different types of evaluations in quite a similar way as the girls. Boys and girls also spread their evaluations over the text in quite the same way.

Full textWriting is an essential tool for creating meaningful communication and as such it must be taught beginning in elementary school. Although in the past 100 years writing has become more common in our everyday lives, methods of teaching writing and teacher education have not kept pace with changes (National Commission on Writing, 2003). As a result, teachers are underprepared to teach writing and do not teach it enough (Gilbert and Graham, 2010). The goal of this study is to understand how teacher-researcher relationships can facilitate the development of a teacher's knowledge of the theoretical foundations of teaching writing through systemic functional linguistics (SFL) and the teaching and learning cycle (TLC), and how that understanding affects the implementation of meaningful writing instruction that supports bilingual students as they learn to write. Using a modified action research methodology (Herr and Anderson, 2005; Reason and Bradbury, 2001; Zeichner, 2001) the data were collected over the course of one school year and analyzed utilizing the action research spiral by examining interactions between a teacher and a researcher through seven vignettes, including planning lessons, teaching, and reviewing lessons. These vignettes reflected particular instances of support, the evolution of the teacher's understanding of teaching writing informed by SFL, and changes in instruction relating to the TLC. Student writing was also analyzed using rubrics informed by SFL theory. The findings suggest that a complex relationship exists between teachers and researchers and that multiple factors are involved in successful change initiatives. The factors include the process of change through individualized support over time, negotiation, and two types of tension: disequilibrium and resistance. In the current study, these factors helped develop the teacher-researcher relationship in ways that promoted changes in the teacher's practices and, to some extent, her beliefs about writing instruction which resulted in the creation of a hybrid pedagogy. While this pedagogy did not demonstrate a full implementation of instruction informed by SFL theory, it did improve the quality of writing instruction and the resulting student writing

Full textNo processo de soldadura por fricção linear (SFL), o conhecimento em relação à libertação de nanopartículas é, ainda, reduzido. O processo tem sido considerado como limpo, ou seja, sem emissões de fumos. Contudo, estudos recentes apontam para a existência de partículas com dimensões inferiores a 100 nm. As nanopartículas têm uma elevada capacidade de deposição alveolar, provocando assim uma diminuição da capacidade respiratória dos indivíduos. Este estudo tem como objectivos a determinação das áreas superficiais de nanopartículas depositadas na região alveolar do pulmão, níveis de emissão, morfologia e composição, resultantes de diversos parâmetros operacionais, assim como avaliar a necessidade de propor formas para a minimização de emissões de nanopartículas neste processo. A SFL foi realizada nas ligas de alumínio, AA 5083 e AA 6082, com velocidades de rotação diferentes, sendo efectuadas medições para determinar a área superficial das partículas depositadas na zona alveolar, a sua granulometria, e caracterizar as nanopartículas em microscopia electrónica. Os resultados confirmam a existência de emissões de nanopartículas com capacidade de deposição alveolar e a existência de relações entre os parâmetros de soldadura e a área de deposição no pulmão. Concluiu-se também que a sua composição química está directamente relacionada com os materiais utilizados no processo.

Full textA company with financial problems, according to the Swedish Company Reorganisation Act, is to be given the opportunity to reconstruct the business through a particular procedure, a company reconstruction. The purpose of the institute is to ensure that viable companies with temporary financial problems get back on their feet and thereby avoid bankruptcy and value-destruction. A successful company reconstruction is often beneficial to several stakeholders: the company as such, employees, creditors and society at large. There is, therefore, an explicit goal that companies should be reconstructed if the prerequisites for a successful company reconstruction exist. Under the corporate and tax laws, there are certain action-based liability rules for the company's representatives, as a counterweight to the corporate law principle of freedom from personal liability. Chapter 25 of the Swedish Companies Act contains the so-called Capital Shortage Rules which stipulate that, in order to avoid personal liability for the company's obligations, the Board must act in a certain way when the company's equity capital is less than half of the registered share capital. There is also the so-called Tax Liability of Representatives in Chapter 59 of the Swedish Tax Procedures Act, which means that a representative of a company may become jointly and severally liable for the company's tax liabilities not paid on the due date unless the representative has taken effective measures to wind up the business. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and analyse the liability rules in relation to the ability to reconstruct viable activities under the Company Reorganisation Act. This is done by establishing a debtor perspective and a creditor perspective on each regulatory framework to investigate how well different interests are met. In the thesis, a legal dogmatic method is used. The conclusion is that a representative must take into account all the regulations and that the liability regulation negatively affects the prospects for successful company restructuring. Furthermore, it is stated in the analysis that it would be possible to exclude, in the context of the courts, the capital shortage rules in Chapter 25 of the Companies Act and representative responsibility in Chapter 59 of the Tax Procedures Act during an ongoing company restructuring as the Company Reorganisation Act meets both the debtors interest and creditors interest in an equivalent or better way. It is also proposed that all regulations should be reviewed within the framework of a joint Swedish Government Official Report.

Full textThe ability to express meaning in prose is a foundational skill in our society. Given the importance of being a competent writer, concern with the quality of writing instruction is a recurring theme among American educators (Cutler & Graham, 2008; Gilbert & Graham, 2010; National Commission on Writing, 2003, 2004, 2006). Research shows that teachers are unprepared to teach writing (Gilbert & Graham, 2010) and devote limited amounts of time to it (Cutler & Graham, 2008; Gilbert & Graham, 2010). In addition, national assessment data indicates that most students are not proficient writers (Salahu-Din, Persky & Miller, 2008). An embedded case study design (Yin, 2009), using mixed methodology (Greene & Caracelli, 2003a, 2003b; Hesse-Biber, 2010), was employed to determine whether a school-university partnership enacted systemic functional linguistics theory guided writing intervention changed fourth and fifth grade teachers' writing instruction over the course of three years in an urban elementary school. The study further investigated changes to 41 fourth and 27 fifth graders' writing performance during the third year of the invention. Examination of the relationship between students' performance in writing and the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test in English language arts was conducted. The study also explored how teachers articulated their experiences with the partnership. Findings showed the content of teachers' instruction changed involving the use of metalanguage and the teaching of genre, language, and tenor. Similarly, instructional strategies evolved regarding negotiating field and deconstruction of text. Findings also indicated a significant improvement in writing performance for all students, and bilingual students had more growth over time than monolingual peers. Also, a moderate positive relationship existed between writing performance and MCAS performance, which suggests understanding of genre may support reading comprehension. Overall, teachers positively experienced the partnership and found value in the professional development. Implications of these study findings will benefit teacher education, administrators and policymakers, and allow for improved school-university partnerships

Full textResearch on EFL students has received increased interest in recent years (Elachachi, 2015; Al- Zubaidi, 2012; Awad, 2012; Eldokali, 2007; Wahba, 1998). Although much research attention has focussed on the EFL classes and practices, very little research has focussed on the Arab students and the resources used for teaching them English abroad. In particular, the linguistic and cultural barriers Arab students face when seeking higher education in a foreign country, in this case South Africa, where they have minimal to no exposure to the language of instruction used by the host institution, have not received much attention. The study investigated the academic writing skills in English of Arab students and evaluated the efficacy of the EFL teaching materials used at selected English schools in Cape Town for those intending to study in South Africa. The researcher did a text-based analysis on written essays by the Arab students, using Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) as a theoretical and analytical framework. The study also evaluated course books used by private language schools to teach EFL students in Cape Town. The textbooks were analysed by means of Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA, an offshoot of SFL to explore the different modes used in the teaching material as aspects of cultural social semiotics. It was found that the selected course books used in Cape Town language schools were focusing on teaching conversational English rather than written academic English, which was critical for essay writing required at tertiary level education. The essays showed that Arab students writing lacked in English academic writing conventions, and often resorted to adopting and adapted their first language style, which often led to unsatisfactory writing. Thus, it was concluded that the schools did not adequately prepare the students to face the academic requirements at institutions of higher learning. The study recommends a number of pedagogical measures on how to improve academic writing, as well as infusing Arabic cultural modes in the teaching material to contextualise learning and aid meaning making and consumption.

Full textI denna rapport jämförs renderingsprestandan mellan multimediabiblioteken Allegro, SDL och SFML. Den högsta prestandan uppnås genom att skriva kod direkt till en lågnivå-API för grafik, men det kräver mycket mer kod än att använda ett multimediabibliotek. Därför är det vanligt att använda ett multimediabibliotek eller något med liknande funktioner för visualiseringsarbeten. Jämförelsen bestod av att räkna det totala antalet skärmbilder som renderades under en sekund för statiska, semitransparanta, rotarande och rörliga bilder. Varje test kördes med 50 till 10 000 bilder som renderades samtidigt, och programmen testades på sex olika datorer, tre bärbara med integrerade GPUs och tvåkärniga energieffektiva CPUs, och tre stationära med externa GPUs och fyrkärniga CPUs med upplåst klockfrekvens. Allegro presterade bäst på bärbara datorer under en hög belastning, men var upp till 50% sämre i alla övriga tester. SDL presterade bäst på stationära datorer, därför är det ett bra val för krävande grafiska program på stationära datorer. SFML presterade bäst överlag, vilket gör det till det bästa valet för att skapa grafiska program som är tänkta att köras på olika starka datorer.

Full textFöreliggande studie undersöker maktrelationer, textuell genre och attityder till matchningsprocessen på arbetsmarknaden i Arbetsförmedlingens publicerade debattartiklar under perioden 2009–2014. De maktförhållanden som framkommer i debattartiklarna mellan arbetsgivare, arbetssökande och privata arbetsförmedlare utgör studiens huvudsakliga fråga. Studiens teoretiska utgångspunkter är hämtade från Faircloughs kritiska diskursanalys (1992, 2001, 2010), där den diskursiva praktiken består av Arbetsförmedlingens produktion av debattartiklar under en pågående lågkonjunktur. Den sociala praktiken utgörs av de lagar och författningar som utgör statens åtgärder för att minska arbetslösheten i samhället. Metoden är hämtad från Hallidays (1994, 2002) systemisk-funktionella lingvistik. Analysen bygger på teorins 3 metafunktioner, där analysen görs på interpersonell, ideationell och textuell nivå. Resultatet visar att Arbetsförmedlingen har en tydlig agenda som de vill förmedla till debattartiklarnas mottagare. De söker legitimitet för sitt arbetssätt genom att förklara orsaker till de bristande resultaten. De gör även repliker på kritiska debattinlägg från ledande politiker och debattörer, där de försvarar sitt nuvarande arbetssätt. Debattartiklarna redogör också för hur arbetslösheten kan minska i samhället om arbetsgivare och arbetssökande följer deras instruktioner. Arbetsförmedlingen driver en egen agenda till orsakerna bakom arbetslösheten som de vill förmedla genom sina debattartiklar.

Full textInternational students arriving at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) from other African countries find themselves in a position of having to negotiate their identities and positions with their South African counterparts. The local students too are faced with the prospect of doing the same since they have to coexist with the former. This study aims to investigate how, in a discussion about xenophobia, a selection of UWC students perform face-work and negotiate or construct their identities as well as those of their coparticipants and position themselves in relation to each other. I was interested in exploring how the participants, who were representative of the two groups that clashed in the xenophobic attacks of 2008, would engage with each other while discussing this sensitive topic.The data was gathered during an open-ended discussion among four UWC postgraduate students in a casual, relaxed setting (my room on campus). The transcribed data was then analyzed using a combination of theoretical frameworks from Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) and Discourse Analysis. In particular, the SFL theory of modality(Halliday 1994) and Engagement (Martin and White 2005) and Goffman’s (1999[1967]) notion of face were used as tools of analysis.The analysis reveals that participants use a variety of linguistic choices and discourse strategies to maintain face during the discussion of this sensitive topic of xenophobia. The participants make an effort to take care of each other’s face (desires to be appreciated and left free of any imposition) and keep conflicts to a minimum even when they at times disagree and give incriminatory information about each other. It also reveals that the participants, in addition to maintaining face, also construct and negotiate identities which in turn help build in-group solidarity and provide a sense of belonging to them.

Full textThis doctoral thesis, framed in the field of Experimental Phonetics applied to the acquisition of second languages, aims to provide accurate data on the acquisition of Spanish vowels by Chinese speakers and on the phenomena that this process causes in the set of the phonic string. The ultimate goal of this research is to make a contribution to the complete phonetic-phonological process that consists of acquiring the pronunciation of a foreign language. The studies that focus on the acquisition of Spanish by Chinese speakers use, in general, Contrastive Analysis to predict these speakers’ errors and difficulties concerning the Spanish phonetic system. These work consider that the vowels do not hinder the intelligibility of the message, and, therefore, they are not considered as a problematic sound. However, as it is shown in this research, the study of the vowel system acquisition process must analyse and describe the articulatory and acoustic characteristics of the students’ pronunciation. The corpus designed for this thesis enables to state all aspects of the acquisition process and demonstrate the influence exerted by different variables on the articulation of the vowels and describe their characteristics. The control group of this research consists of female Spanish speakers, and those of the target group are Chinese speakers. The auditory analysis has allowed to establish, qualitatively, which are the influences exerted by different independent variables such as accentuation, the consonants ant the syllabic structure on the timbre of the vowels. The acoustic analysis has allowed, on the one hand, to describe the influence of the qualitative variables on the duration of the vowels produced by Chinese speakers. On the other hand, the analysis of the timbre of the vowels has made it possible to verify that the performances of the Chinese speakers are, in general, less homogeneous and present greater variation than those of the control group. In addition, this analysis has shown that, sometimes, this speaker’s pronunciation of the Spanish vowels is far from native Spanish speakers’. The results obtained in this investigation show that the study of the acquisition of a sound does not depend exclusively on the intrinsic characteristics of the sound itself; in order to understand the reasons that lead the Chinese speakers to pronounce the Spanish vowels in a different way to the natives, all the factors that influence the realization of them must be considered.

Full textThis study seeks to find answers to whom, in terms of which gender group, is given space on the QX magazine cover. Primarily with focus on text elements, secondarily the visual aspects. The study is created in the traces of gender researcher Yvonne Hirdman's theories concerning the male dominance that is generally found in society, and which gives women a lower social status. Hirdman points out that this inequality is being created and recreated, as well as Embretsén and Palmberg's study "A Monochrome Rainbow" presents an underrepresentation of women in QX magazine. The research material consists of 36 covers from the QX magazine, published between 2015 and 2017. The study is based on systemic-functional linguistics, discourse analysis and a multimodal analysis to cover both the ideational meanings of the texts as well as how messages are presented visually. The result shows an even frequency of gender distribution, but an uneven design in which QX turns on stereotypes of female and male, which is based on a ruling male point of view.

This master's research aims to describe and analyse the lexical-grammatical features of attitude in comments in order to understand how the public blogs for Portuguese teaching evaluate the process of teaching and learning in its various aspects, especially those that relate directly to the issue of education offered in them. These assessments are fundamental to understand, in general, the operation of non-institutional educational blogs for mother tongue teaching, for only the participants can measure the quality of this process, necessarily to be the target audience of these blogs.
Esta pesquisa de mestrado tem como objetivo a descrição e análise dos recursos léxico-gramaticais de atitude em comentários, a fim de compreender como o público de blogs para o ensino de Língua Portuguesa avalia esse processo de ensino-aprendizagem em seus mais diversos aspectos, sobretudo os que se relacionam diretamente à questão do ensino neles oferecido. Essas avaliações são fundamentais para entender, em linhas gerais, o funcionamento dos blogs educativos não institucionais para o ensino de língua materna, pois somente os participantes podem mensurar a qualidade desse processo, necessariamente por serem o público-alvo desses blogs
