Abstract:
Close on the thematic heels of her groundbreaking Sex after Fascism, Dagmar Herzog offers us in her new book Cold War Freud: Psychoanalysis in an Age of Catastrophes a further elaboration on her earlier thesis about the complex relationship between sex and politics. Sex after Fascism made an immensely productive but counterintuitive argument, one that crucially relied on the proposition of three historical periods, each defined by its particular relationship with sex(uality). Herzog claimed, first, that German fascism was not sexually repressive; second, that the immediate postwar environment was, on the contrary, sexually repressive; and third, that the “sexual revolution” beginning in the late 1960s and expanding into the 1970s was consciously contesting fascist repression, while in fact it was actually and unconsciously in dialogue with the more immediate past of the postwar era. Her tour de force argument here was that this historical sequencing had the overall effect of obscuring, indeed repressing, the sex-positive policies of the Nazis and therefore “misunderstanding” not only fascism itself but also—and especially—fascism's (sexual) appeal. Herzog suggested that not only did the generation of the 1968-ers espouse a politics of the missed object; more nefariously, the repression of fascism's sexual appeal also opened the road to all sorts of varieties of historical revisionism.

Abstract:
How do clinical observations of repression square with experimental evidence suggesting that emotionally arousing memories are especially enduring? This discrepancy can be understood by examining three kinds of memory distortions that give the impression in a clinical context, of repression. Potentially traumatic events such as childhood sexual abuse (CSA) may be subject to ordinary forgetting. Recent research suggests people who fail to understand the sexual nature of CSA report that they remember it less well. In other words, the event occurred and it was forgotten, but not “repressed.” In addition, people may be wrong about experiencing a period of forgetting, i.e. the event occurred but was never forgotten. Finally, people may believe that a particular traumatic event occurred and was repressed when, in fact, it did not happen in the first place. Under certain circumstances, some combination of these distortions could lead to situations that are mistakenly interpreted as repression.

Abstract:
Palavras-chave : Relação pedagógica; educação; cuidado de si; cuidado dos outros; emancipação Sexual relationship and pedagogical relationship: about the care of the self and the care of the others Abstract: Can we draw from Michel Foucault's work a theory of education and of education as emancipation? And what place could the history of sexuality have in this framework? In this article, we focus on the philosopher's last lectures, which give way to a theme of autonomy and freedom with the theses on "concern for the self". We discuss the possibility of considering the epimeletic relation as a form of pedagogical relation, and we ask why and how the question of sexuality allows us to re-evaluate the pedagogical question, shifting the problematic of repression and domination to that of subject formation. We first return to the previous discussions around the repressive hypothesis (I). Then we consider how the equation between epimeletic relation, erotic relation and pedagogical relation is set up in Subjectivity and Truth (II). Finally, we address the problematic of the "concern for the self" in The Hermeneutics of the Subject in relation to the "concern for others", to the political question and to institutions (III). Culturing conditions have been found that engender flocculation of strains 975h+ and 972h− of the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe Lindner. Both strains separately exhibit asexual self-flocculation and together, sexual co-flocculation. Flocculation is glucose repressible, but that repression is leaky, because self-flocculation can occur during the late logarithmic phase of growth before either of the C or N sources are depleted.

A major debate exists within the mental health field regarding the authenticity of recovered repressed memories involving childhood sexual abuse. Since it is difficult to document events that occurred years ago, a study was conducted in which polygraphy was utilized to test alleged child abusers accused on the basis of recovered memories versus those abusers whose purported victims experienced no repression. The former group was found to be deceptive in only 4% of the cases, in contrast to 78% for the latter subjects. These findings strongly argue against the validity of the concept of repression for acts that might have persisted for years.

It is generally accepted that Qing China (1644–1912) was a straitlaced, sexually repressed society. Robert H. van Gulik, for example, ended his study of sexual life in China with the fall of the Ming dynasty, in part because he believed that Chinese attitudes toward sexuality became much more repressive after the Ming, and the generalizations he made in his book were not appropriate for the Qing (1961:333–36). This dramatic change in attitude has been attributed to the resurgence of Cheng- Zhu Neo-Confucianism, with its strict view of sexual relations in general, and female sexuality in particular (Ropp 1981:120–24).

ABSTRACT Methionine added to minimal medium overcomes the repressing effects of ammonium and cyclic AMP (cAMP) on sexual development and efficiently induces mating and sporulation in homothallic strains ofSchizosaccharomyces pombe. In heterothallic strains it induces G1 arrest when cells enter stationary phase. We show that methionine reduces the intracellular cAMP pool and induces the expression of at least two cAMP-repressible genes, includingfbp1 and ste11. The easiest interpretation of the results is that methionine induces sexual development via a cAMP-dependent ste11 signalling pathway.

Abstract:
In the american popular imagination, the 1950s and 1960s stand in stark juxtaposition. The conformity of the 1950s contrasts with the rebelliousness of the 1960s. Consumerism was undermined by the challenge of youthful antimaterialism. Repressed sexuality gave way to sexual liberation. Political centrism yielded to polarization. A homogeneous mass culture fragmented into balkanized cultures. Consensus broke down into irrepressible conflict. For conservatives, the 1950s serve as a symbolic “golden age,” an era that atavistic (and terribly forgetful) Americans evoke when pondering current economic, cultural, and social problems. For those on the Left, the 1950s remain the “dark ages” of repression, corporate domination, and racial and sexual subordination.

This dissertation seeks to analyze the socio-spatial dynamics of prostitution in the city of Francisco Beltrão, Paraná, in its earliest manifestations, in specific moments, and at present, at another time, and alterations in the forms, functions, structures and processes of this activity, here understood as an economic activity. Part of the overall scale of the sex industry in a globalized world, of international trafficking of people, and the forms of organization of this activity in the city of São Paulo, to give a more precise cut of this activity on the scale of Francisco Beltrão. It attempts to analyze the explosive mix of sex, money and prejudices just as a socioeconomic activity in the light of the categories of Economic Geography.

The research aimed to study the novel Crônica da casa assassinada (1959), by Lúcio Cardoso. Its focus is Meneses’ family, a patriarchal family, once aristocratic, found in financial and moral decay at the moment of the narrative. The present work will explore time and space in the narrative, the patriarchal family, gender issues and the role of women in that historical context, modern and postmodern aspects of the novel. In the theoretical part we had the support of Pierre Bourdieu, Judith Butler, Zygmunt Bauman, Regina Dalcastagnè, among others that constitute fundamental parts of this research. Through analysis and theoretical support it was observed how the patriarchal family constituted itself and how the patriarch influenced the lives of all who surrounded him. In the theoretical-literary part we verify how the novel was shaped and some aspects of the author's writing.

There are several means by which repression against female sex, so pungent in many moments of human trajectory, is demonstrated in literature, being the guilty conscience one of the oldest ways these representations take and perhaps the most tragical. Admitting the importance of this feeling as the main basis for delineation of Lúcia’s story, from José de Alencar’s novel, Lucíola, this work aims to answer how the social and cultural factors, specially gender inequalities and their consequent dual morality standard, are articulated so that it results in the protagonist’s repression by herself. It is divided in four chapters. The first intends to verify how some of the historical female domination processes took their forms, including there symbolic domination that sees guilty as one of its most effective instruments. Also, some psychosocial aspects of this feeling and how it transfigures in prostitute’s stigmatization promoted by themselves will be analysed. In the second chapter, Romanticism is focused. It examines the importance of this movement in the crystallization of patterns that limited even more female sex as well as the place José de Alencar holds in this context with his singular protagonists – these ones formed with dense psychological bagagge. In the third chapter, the analysis of Lúcia’s sense of guilt take shape with specific attention to Christianity’s blaming methods and their assimilation by Maria da Glória. The fourth chapter, finally, reveals the way Maria’s sense of guilt results in Lúcia’s conception and, from a psychoanalytic and gendered perspective, studies the mechanisms involved in the development of this feeling, just like its consequences, all this ruled by observations of nineteenth century woman’s idealization that contributed to sinuosities of relation female/guilt. To the accomplishment of these studies some authors were essencial, like Pierre Bourdieu (2014), Thomas Bonnicci (2007), Jonathan Culler (1999), François Furet (1999), Heinrich Heine (1991), Antônio Cândido (2006), but mainly, Freud (2011), Nietzsche (2009) and theorizations of Alencar himself, always having in mind a better contribution to the studies of different roles both sexes represent in literature and the processes of symbolic domination that have as their goal the achievement of these gaps – namely the process of guilt internalization.
No segundo capítulo, o Romantismo ganha foco.

For approximately 27 years, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been plagued by armed conflicts, currently persisting in the eastern part of the country. Thousands have lost their lives, and women and girls have endured various and exceptional harms from sexual violence, compounded by stigma and social ostracization. Despite progressive national and international legal frameworks, impunity persists, denying victims access to the right to redress. The dysfunctional national judicial system, guided by conventional criminal and reparative principles, reveals the weakness of the domestic response to the implicated international crimes. In the context of transitional justice revival, traditional national approaches to criminal justice and reparations prove inadequate in the dual national and international setting. A unique comprehensive approach addressing international crimes, focusing on the autonomy of sexual violence as a weapon of war in the DRC, gives rise to a transitional justice mechanism encompassing both judicial and extrajudicial aspects. In a geopolitical landscape marked by UN disengagement and the erosion of international responsibility, the prospect of a judicial mechanism constructed with a crescendo approach to the internationalization or denationalization of concurrent jurisdiction between national courts (Judicial Special Chambers) and the Special Criminal Court for the DRC, an international tribunal, constitutes the innovation of this thesis

_______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This dissertation attemps an analytical reading of sexual repression, focusing on the transmission from mother to daughter in the literature, more specifically in Verão no Aquário, O Espartilho and As Meninas, by Lygia Fagundes Telles. It is relevant to take into account how sexual repression is put into practice by the mother, and how the reactions of the daughter manifests itself. Taking into account that this is a troubled relationship, when it comes to the establishment of identitary frontiers, since mothers and daughters are intimately connected due to women social roles that bind their identiy to motherhood. This intimate relationshiop is why the transmission of sexual repression happens at an inconscious level, and is reproduced until these days. Social, psychoanalytical and gender theories give support to the study on how these relationships are established in the social and familial milieu, at the individual as well as at the social level, and are shown through women's writings.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The model of a woman expected in health services is as follows: adult, mother, and heterosexual. Any woman who breaks this pattern is invisibilized or goes through services that are not adequate for her particular demands. Most of the time, lesbian women go unnoticed in health services, and the identification of their sexual orientation does not occur directly, in consultations with the women, but by the identification of others of characteristics considered as male gender, such as short hair, masculine way of walking, and type of clothes. Objective: This study aims to understand the meanings attributed by a lesbian couple to the discrimination suffered in health services. Methodology: This is a qualitative, cross-sectional, descriptive, exploratory study that had gender studies as theoretical references. One woman with breast cancer and her partner participated. An in-depth interview was conducted with each of the participants and, subsequently, the data were analyzed and discussed from the perspective of the inductive thematic content analysis. Results: The participants reported more than one experience of discrimination with the health professionals they encountered throughout the cancer treatment: sexist comments, invisibilization, and denial of the relationship of the two as a couple, among others. It can be said that women are taught, since they are born, to be mothers, to take care of others, and to “give pleasure to the other.” Thus, the sexuality of women is denied, repressed, and feared. These gaps invisibilize lesbianities within the healthcare system. Conclusion: The findings of this study also allow us to look toward the health issues of lesbian women, whose vulnerabilities are amplified by the need to defend their dissident identities and sexualities when they are in contact with health services. Fighting the inequities experienced by lesbian women in the health sector is a challenge for the effective implementation of health rights, with respect to citizenship and dignity.
