Abstract:
In the British colony of Natal, laws governing sex for settlers were concerned with reproduction and sexual respectability, which were the grounds for imagining difference amongst imperial populations only recently assembled under colonial jurisdiction. Age of consent laws arose out of these contingencies rather than out of any concern with a liberal politics of social reform. Consequently, colonial age of consent laws governing white settlers bore only superficial resemblance to metropolitan legislative reforms such as age of consent laws. Instead, the Natal state's practices of law-making recognized three discrete and divergent moral economies of sex in the colonial laws governing white settler citizens, Native law which governed the lives of Africans and the consolidated body of laws governing Indian immigrants. In this young colony, not only did ‘age of consent’ laws have to be newly made, but they were conceived separately and contained by ‘colonial law’, ‘Native custom’ and ‘Indian custom’. The sexuality of young white woman was coded in colonial rape laws and used to draw lines of civilizational difference between settler citizens and their Others. For these others, relating sex to exceptional marriage customs excluded from legal codes of civilized common practice was how the state worked to assert difference.

Abstract:
Customary law is something that is very inherent in Indonesian society, because it is still growing and being applied in the midst of society to this day. Among the many customs that exist in Indonesia, the Karo custom is one that is still very heavily applied. Adat Karo has provisions related to the customary culture of its indigenous people, both related to marriage, inheritance distribution, and other customary practices in accordance with the activities carried out. This research method is juridical and normative analysis, data sources are carried out in literature and in the field. Field research conducted interviews in Gongsol Village, Karo District. The purpose of this writing is to find out and analyze the rules for the application of Karo customary law regarding same-sex marriage. The results of this study are that the marriage rules in the Karo custom are in the form of an agreement between the two parties, namely the introduction of the parents of both parties, ngembah belo a sheet, ngantik manuk, ngalari customary debt (party), hitting after the Karo traditional party is finished. In traditional Karo marriages, it is not permissible to marry with the same clan, this has become customary law in Karo customs, and if this happens, they will be expelled from the local village/village.

Abstract:
Is same-sex marriage a recent outcome of concerted political action, or does it have a much longer history? This article critically examines the historical tensions and complexities around same-sex marriage by focusing on the New Zealand context. It argues that same-sex marriage is not simply a matter of legal provisions, but also reflects shared customs and incipient forms of politics that took hold before the era of marriage equality and have since been further transformed. By offering an overview of the New Zealand situation between the mid-19th century and the present day, this article examines the cultural and political complexities of same-sex marriage in order to tease out the intricate intersections between historical continuities and social change.

Abstract:
The Yi ethnic group in Liangshan has a special culture and marriage customs, and is sensitive to words and topics such as "sex". In this context, girls of the Liangshan Yi ethnic group lack access to scientific sexual knowledge, resulting in a lack of sexual education. Through fieldwork and interviews, this paper understands the current situation and problems of sex education for girls in the family, school and society in the Liangshan Yi region, including: women in the Liangshan Yi region equate "sex education" with talking about "sex", such as birth, pregnancy, menstruation, and other taboos that cannot be mentioned in the region; sex education in schools is only about sex physiology, emphasizing how to maintain boundaries with boys and avoid sexually transmitted diseases; influenced by traditional family culture, Yi women do not have a correct attitude toward sexual assault and choose to tolerate it. Based on this, this paper synthesizes the understanding of sex education curriculum in China and other countries, and combines the unique sex culture of the Liangshan Yi region, by designing a sex education activity curriculum as a way out of the current situation of sex education for girls in the Liangshan Yi region.

Abstract:
Since woman is "fair sex", not only helpless defending herself but also destitute and has no voice is silent. She is unaware of the fundamental rights given by Islam. The doors to education are closed on her especially for the women residents of rural areas of my beloved country. That is why aristocratic class of the society imposes "Dark Laws" in the form of custom and values in society. The custom of "Honor Killing or Karo Kari" is most heinous of these customs. This dreadful custom has been taking the toll of women's lives for years. When did this custom start? History is silent about it could be surely termed as ignorance. Islam is the religion of peace and prosperity; it is the religion of justice, fairness, tolerance and unity. This is the only religion of world which is not spread by sword or gun but only due to its gratitude towards others. In Islam's view even killing an ant is apprehend-able, let alone of a human being. Islamic laws and Hudood laws have proper procedure without Hudood can not be implemented. "Honor Killing" has no place in Islam, it is a heinous crime unacceptable in Islam.

Although cultural values reinforce the idea of elderly de-sexualization, sexuality is inherent in human beings, covering all developmental stages, including old age. The body changes as a whole over the year and sexuality also transforms. The aging brings significant changes with regard to physical and emotional aspects, but sexuality is experienced until the end of life. This descriptive, qualitative research aimed to investigate beliefs about the elderly sexuality in the report of ten people with advanced age, of both sexes, who answered semi-structured interviews that were recorded and wholy transcribed for theme content analysis. The analyzed categories were: 1) sex education, 2) family ties, 3) social aspects work, leisure and friends, 4) old age representation, body image and self esteem, 5) sexuality, love and sexual relationships, 6) health and sexual response (desire, arousal and orgasm). The results indicate for the participants, sexuality was perceived as a synonymous of sexual act, demonstrating a restrictive conception of human sexuality. Older people report that they engaged in sexual and romantic relationships after 60 years old and deal with sexuality, lived at his stage, as a natural and necessary act, being important in their lives today and in the past. They also noted changes in sexual response and frequency of sexual activities, however, despite the physical limitations, they hadn't left to live their sexuality in a pleasant way; they pleasantly refer to their own desire and orgasm and of their partner's. We conclude that sexuality is an important aspect in aging, considering its physiological, psychological, emotional and cultural dimensions. It is emphasized that the results are not intended to be generalized because it is a small sample and with specific characteristics: straight and healthy people, coming from middle and... Abstract:
The present study examined gender differences in the emotional tone of written sexual fantasies. Participants included 182 heterosexual men and 206 heterosexual women enrolled in undergraduate clinical and counseling courses at a mid-sized Midwestern university. Data collected on each respondent was derived from five sources 1) a written sexual fantasy, 2) the Extended Personal Attributes Questionnaire (EPAQ), 3) Human Sexuality Questionnaire - The Heterosexual Experience Subscale, 4) the Sexual Opinion Survey (SOS), and 5) the Revised Mosher Guilt Inventory. The Dictionary of Affect in Language (DAL) (Whissell, 1999) was used to obtain two quantitative measures, Activation and Evaluation of the emotional tone of the sexual fantasies. The variables of the study were gender role variables (agency and communion) and sex variables (erotophobia-erotophilia, sex experience, sex guilt, Activation and Evaluation). It was hypothesized that men would score higher on agency, sexual experience, erotophilia, and Activation, which is associated with arousal and action, and women would score higher on communion, erotophobia, sex guilt and Evaluation, which is associated with pleasant feelings. Gender differences were found for all variables except sexual experience and the measures of emotion, Activation and Evaluation. Given the stated hypotheses, canonical correlations were performed to determine the linear relationship of gender role and sex variables for men and women. One significant canonical correlation was found for men indicating that as agency, erotophilia, and sexual experience increase, sex guilt decreases. No significant canonical correlation was found for women. A discriminant analysis was performed to determine if the gender role variables and the sex variables were strong discriminators of sex. Results indicated that communion and erotophobia were the best discriminators for men and women. The study's present findings are discussed in terms of the sexual double standard and the changing social values of women in today's society. Limitations of the study and future directions of research in sexual fantasies and gender differences, specifically in terms of application to counseling are discussed.

Abstract:
This thesis explores issues of subjectivity and gender around ritual activity in Xianyou county, Fujian Province, China. It focuses on three groups of women: Buddhist nuns, mediums and village women engaged in the ritual caretaking of their families. It also examines a spirit writing text from the late Qing dynasty (1644-1911). It is suggested that subject positions and kin positions are to a certain extent coextensive and that participation in certain rituals is what constitutes one as a gendered subject (as a "woman") and in certain kin roles (as wife, daughter-in-law, etc.). Other gendered subject positions (such as that of melancholic lover) are explored in an attempt to complicate any simple determinism that might accompany to easy a correspondence of kin position with sex role.

Abstract:
AbstractThis research was conducted in an IT service provider that provides the installation of information systems for customers. Planned projects often did not meet their target set by both provider and customer. For example, an SAP project that was set to be completed in six months was delayed until two years by some problems in operational activities. So, the CPM methods were conducted to be used in this case to see the efficiency of meeting the target set previously. Generally, these methods are completed in steps such as identifying the scope and breaking it down into components activities; dependency logic settings and development project network; estimating the duration of each activity; identifying critical path, float, and completion time duration; and crashing stage in several activities needed. This will give a result of comparison between the traditional method delivered and the CPM method using units of time completion. The traditional method using a Bar Chart results in 150 days of project schedule and the CPM Method can be faster with 140 days of Project Schedule. The most efficient method will be proposed to be used in time-consuming projects in the future with the additional recommendation.

Abstract:
The Civil War witnessed the triumph of American pornography made possible by two antebellum developments. First, new customs laws and periodic local commitments to stamping out vice helped establish preconditions for a wartime explosion of porn. A group of erotica dealers in New York City stood at the center of this wartime expansion of the market for porn; as they sought ways of avoiding local prosecution, they pioneered in distribution through the mail. Second, anti-slavery reformers produced tracts that muddled attempts to build a consensus about what constituted the obscene, feeding instead an antebellum erotic imagination that helped pave the way for porn’s triumph.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on French essayist Michel de Montaigne, who is considered a logical point of departure since his account of same-sex relationships is by far the most well known today. It recounts the contended process of Montaigne's Journal de voyage as the abbé Prunis found much of its content distasteful. It also cites a passage in Journal de voyage concerning same-sex marriages in Rome that embarrassed Canon Guillaume-Vivien Leydet, just as parts of the manuscript had embarrassed the abbé Prunis. The chapter discusses Montaigne's anecdote that was intended to surprise and amuse the worldly, cultivated visitor in search of diverse customs and unusual happenings. It highlights the influence of Montaigne's Essais on his early free-thinking readers in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Abstract:
Abstract How can we satisfy every customer whim at prices that are no higher than those of competitors who offer only a few products? The following strategies have worked in many circumstances: 1. Analyze the structure of the demand. We need to be able to make what customers do order, not everything they might. 2. Standardize components. Custom products do not always have to be made from scratch. Instead, they can be made from a small number of standard components. 3. Make a catalog with a discrete set of sizes. All shoes used to be custom-made, but today, shoes made in size increments meet the needs of almost all consumers. 4. Postpone customization to the end of the process. Customization happens best at or near the end of the manufacturing process. 5. Identify a common process. Then we can treat custom products like options on standard products. 6. Maintain a database of past designs. It can be an enormous time saver in meeting requirements that appear to be new. 7. Design your custom manufacturing process. While still as a job-shop, the custom workshop must be organized for effectiveness and efficiency. 8. Set up a simple production control system. Cap the number of jobs in process, sequence WIP FIFO, do all priority shuffling prior to job release, and track progress with Ybry charts.

Abstract:
Since certifying the Bell 505 in December 2016, customers on six continents have received delivery of 250 of these light, single-engine aircraft. In three years the worldwide fleet logged more than 35,000 flight-hours, a testament to the Bell 505's customer experience - not only with the aircraft, but with delivery and service. In getting to the 250th delivery, the paper discusses the efforts taken to meet market demand, provide custom finishing, offer kit integration, and even take on additional envelope expansion. Numerous configurations and kits were made available a short time after initial certification, allowing Bell 505 customers to take full advantage of the aircraft capability in a timely manner. The challenges of meeting market demand and transitioning from low rate production to full rate production requires a team effort and this paper shows how it was done for the 505.

Abstract:
Customers’ choice decisions often involve two stages during which customers first use noncompensatory rules to form a consideration set and then make the final choice through careful compensatory tradeoffs. In this work, we propose a two-stage network-based modeling approach to study customers’ consideration and choice behaviors in a separate but integrated manner. The first stage models customer preferences in forming a consideration set of multiple alternatives, and the second stage models customers’ choice preference given individuals’ consideration sets. Specifically, bipartite exponential random graph (ERG) models are used in both stages to capture customers’ interdependent choices. For comparison, we also model customers’ choice decisions when consideration set information is not available. Using data from the 2013 China auto market, our results suggest that exogenous attributes (i.e., car attributes, customer demographics, and perceived satisfaction ratings) and the endogenous network structural factor (i.e., vehicle popularity) significantly influence customers’ decisions. Moreover, our results highlight the differences between customer preferences in the consideration stage and the purchase stage. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first attempt of developing a two-stage network-based approach to analytically model customers’ consideration and purchase decisions, respectively. Second, this work further demonstrates the benefits of the network approach versus traditional logistic regressions for modeling customer preferences. In particular, network approaches are effective for modeling the inherent interdependencies underlying customers’ decision-making processes. The insights drawn from this study have general implications for the choice modeling in engineering design.

Abstract We define the semi-custom manufacturing business as one in which the product is custom configured from pre-designed components to fit the specific requirements of each customer. Application Engineering is an engineering process of crucial importance in a semi-custom manufacturing business. This process deserves increased automation efforts. The cost and risk of such automation can be significantly reduced by using a shell software which has most of the necessary facilities already built-in. We outline how these facilities are integrated in the SPEx shell. SPEx (Shell for Product Expertise) is a reusable shell software designed to meet the needs of a wide range of product configuration and specification applications. We describe our experience with an Application Engineering automation application built using the SPEx technology.

Abstract:
The ability to select a design alternative, from a set of feasible alternatives, that is likely to meet customers’ and designer’s preferences and also account for uncertainties is vital to the success of a product design process. This paper presents a new metric, a Customer-based Expected Utility (CEU) metric, for product design selection that accounts for a range of attribute levels (i.e., the customer range) within which customers make purchase decisions. The metric also accounts for designer’s preferences and uncertainty in achieving a desired attribute level (or a combination of attribute levels). The application of the CEU metric is demonstrated by rank-ordering a set of design alternatives for a cordless power tool. Using this metric, design alternatives that fall outside the customer range will yield a relatively low CEU value, while among those that fall in the customer range, the alternatives with a higher value of the designer’s utility yield a higher value of the CEU metric.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The decade of the 1990s has witnessed a wave of regional integration initiatives in Latin America: more than 14 agreements -free trade areas or customs unions- since 1990 with a handful more in varying degrees of negotiation (see Table 1). However, this was not just a Latin American phenomenon, as regionalism has more than ever become a global trend (Mistry [1996]). Indeed, now Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong are the only World Trade Organization (WTO) members which are not signatories to at least one preferential trade agreement (WTO [1995]). Regional integration is not new to Latin America. Economic integration played an important role in the region¿s early Post-War economic history. The 1960s and 1970s saw a number of very ambitious initiatives inspired by the successful Western European experience (Ffrench-Davis, Muñoz and Palma [1994]). Indeed, at its peak in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the topic of integration was hard to avoid in the discussion of Latin American development. However, disillusionment with integration processes had clearly set in by the late 1970s and the discussion of regional integration was all but silenced by the external crisis of the early 1980s.
