AbstractTo study the effect of magnetic fields on lithium depletion and explain the characters of lithium evolution in solar-type stars, stellar models including Tayler-Spruit dynamo-type field are constructed. We compare the theoretical results with the time scales of lithium depletion suggested by Sestito & Randich (2005) and obtain very good agreements.

In the framework of the stochastic formulation of quantum mechanics we derive non-stationary states for a class of time-dependent potentials. The wave packets follow a classical motion with constant dispersion. The new states define a possible extension of the harmonic oscillator coherent states. As an explicit application, we study a sestic oscillator potential.

Die doel van die ondersoek was om die ‘Maslach Burnout Inventory’ (MBI) in Afrikaans te vertaal, sekere items by te voeg en die betroubaarheid en geldigheid van die vraelys te bepaal. Die steekproef het bestaan uit 82 N.G. Kerk-predikante van die Wes-Transvaalse Ring. Die MBI, Sestien-Persoonlikheidsfaktorvraelys, IPAT-Angsskaal, ‘Personal Orientation Inventory’ en 'n semi-gestruktureerde vraelys is as meetinstrumente gebruik. Die voorlopige gevolgtrekking word gemaak dat die aangepaste MBI 'n betroubare en geldige meting van uitbranding is binne die konteks waarin dit geëvalueer is.

Kurva unjuk kerja pompa umumnya hanya menggambarkan kemampuan pompa dalam menaikan cairan beserta laju aliran volumenya dari sisi tekan ( discharge) saja. Padahal dalam kenyataan nya sehari- hari terutama untuk keperluan rumah tangga ada informasi lain yang sering kali justru lebih dibutuhkan, yaitu unjuk kerja pompa dari sisi hisap (suction) yang menyatakan kemampuan pompa dalam menghisap air dari kedalaman tanah sebagai upaya memenuhi kebutuhan air sehari-hari, hal ini tidak digambarkan dalam kurva unjuk kerja pompa pada umumnya. Dalam tulisan ini akan dijelaskan unjuk kerja sisi hisap pompa serta faktor-faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi tinggi hisap pompa, yaitu : gesekan pada pipa hisap, pengaruh temperatur kerja, kerugian pada sisi masuk, serta penggunaan Jet Booster pada pompa. Which is the performance from suction sestion, that tell the capability to suck fluid from the depth, in fact, the pump performance are not provided with this information, yet are more important so that people can clearly choose the pump with appropriate capability term to they need. In this paper will be explained performance of suction section, and several factors that influenced that is: friction, the contribution of work temperature, losses of inlet section and also the using of Jet Booster

The speech in defense of Sestius (oratio pro Sestio), delivered in 56 B. C., is one of the most fascinating pages written by Cicero, among his huge literary production, especially for the passion and vigor with which the speaker wields the words to defend his client and to express his impressions on the troubled political moment experienced by the Roman Republic in the end of the first half of the first century B. C.. The defense strategy established by that attorney in a cause that already seemed to be lost reveals to us a mature orator with long experience, forged in the long years of forensic practice. Concerning that specific point, the aim of this report is to study the rhetorical strategy, built by Cicero, in the oratio pro Sestio, to defend his client, from the primary use of a common topic (ός ός) to the three discursive genres of rhetoric, that is: the amplificatio (ὔς). The use of this argumentative resource allows to build a positive amplification, that occurs by increasing the figures of Sestius, of Cicero and of the optimates, along with a negative amplification, which happens through the decrease of the images of Clodius, Gabinius and Piso, contributing to the success of the speaker in winning the jury's adhesion to his thesis. And it is precisely for this reason that we consider, in this work, the amplificatio as an important key of interpretation of the argumentative strategy adopted in the judicial discourse analyzed here. We assume as theoretical framework the Aristotelian conceptions defined in his Rhetoric work, with the support of other works of classical rhetoric and new studies of rhetoric that corroborate the analysis of the text which is object of this research. With the aid of these analysis tools, the argumentative scheme of the oratio pro Sestio has been presented here starting from the átekhnai and éntekhnai proofs (non-technical or inartistics proofs and technical or artistic proofs), which were used by Cicero in the judicial discourse analyzed here, placing the amplification (amplificatio) in this Aristotelian division; we define the procedure of amplification according to the canons of classical rhetoric and the new studies of rhetoric; We identify in the text the techniques of amplification adopted by Cicero from the resources pointed out by Aristotle in Rhetoric; We identify in the style (elocutio), other linguistic resources that support amplification, such as the use of adjectives, nouns and verbs. Under a general perspective, this work reflects on the meanings of this argumentative resource in the work under study, seeking to know what justifies the adoption of this strategy and what are the subliminal messages of Cicero's arguments in promoting such amplifications. In the same way, this work also considers, in a transversal way, if this resource is related to a possible political project for the Republic.
O discurso em defesa de Séstio (oratio pro Sestio), pronunciado em 56 a. C., constitui uma das mais belas páginas escritas por Cícero em sua vasta produção literária, sobretudo pela paixão e pelo vigor com que o orador empunha as palavras para defender seu cliente e exprimir suas impressões sobre o conturbado momento político vivido pela República romana no final da primeira metade do século I a. C.. A estratégia de defesa estabelecida pelo advogado em uma causa que já parecia perdida revela-nos um orador maduro, detentor de larga experiência, forjada nos longos anos de prática forense. Observando particularmente esse ponto, a presente dissertação tem como objeto de estudo a estratégia retórica, construída por Cícero, na oratio pro Sestio, para defender seu cliente, a partir da utilização primordial de um tópico comum (òς ός) aos três gêneros discursivos da retórica: a amplificatio (ὔς). O emprego desse recurso argumentativo permite erigir uma amplificação positiva, que se dá por aumento das figuras de Séstio, de Cícero e dos optimates, ao lado de uma amplificação negativa, que se realiza pela diminuição das imagens de Clódio, Gabínio e Pisão, contribuindo para o êxito do orador na conquista da adesão do júri para sua tese de que Séstio merecia a absolvição. Daí, considerarmos, neste trabalho, a amplificatio como importante chave de interpretação da estratégia argumentativa adotada no discurso judicial em tela. Assumimos como arcabouço teórico as concepções aristotélicas definidas em sua obra Retórica, com o apoio de outras obras da retórica clássica e dos novos estudos de retórica que corroboram a análise do texto objeto desta pesquisa. Com o auxílio dessas ferramentas de análise, apresentamos o esquema argumentativo da oratio pro Sestio a partir das provas átekhnai (não técnicas ou inartísticas) e éntekhnai (técnicas ou artísticas), empregadas por Cícero no discurso judicial em tela, situando a amplificação (amplificatio) nessa divisão aristotélica; definimos o procedimento de amplificação segundo os cânones da retórica clássica e dos novos estudos de retórica; identificamos, no texto, as técnicas de amplificação adotadas por Cícero a partir dos recursos apontados por Aristóteles na Retórica; identificamos, na elocução (elocutio), outros recursos linguísticos que corroboram a amplificação, tais como o uso de adjetivos, substantivos e verbos. Numa perspectiva geral, este trabalho reflete sobre os sentidos desse recurso argumentativo na obra em apreço, perquirindo o que justifica a adoção dessa estratégia e quais as entrelinhas da argumentação de Cícero ao promover tais amplificações, bem como, pondera, de modo transversal, se tal recurso guarda relação com um possível projeto político para a República.

Die stand punt word gehuldig dat bestuurders wat reeds hoer vlakke van selfaktualisering bereik het oor die persoonlikheidskenmerke (intrapersoonlike, interpersoonlike en werkskenmerke) beskik wat tot bestuursukses lei. Hierdie standpunt, wat gegrond is op die uitgangspunte van die humanistiese benadering, is nog nie in finansiele instellings nagevors nie. Die volgende literatuurdoelstellings is in hierdie navorsing bereik: 'n Ge"integreerde beskouing van die vernaamste humanistiese persoonlikheidsteoriee, wat dien as metateoretiese raamwerk vir hierdie navorsing, is daargestel. - Die konsep selfaktualisering is omskryf en die persoonlikheidskenmerke van die selfaktualiserende persoon is ge"identifiseer. - Die konsep bestuursukses is omskryf en die persoonlikheidskenmerke van die suksesvolle bestuurder is ge"identifiseer. - Meetbare bestuursukseskriteria asook meetinstrumente vir die meet daarvan is ge"identifiseer. 'n Psigometriese toetsbattery is saamgestel uit die Algemene Gesondheidsvraelys, Verstandelike-helderheidstoets, Sestien-persoonlikheidsfaktorvraelys, Persoonlikeorienteringsvraelys, Rottervraelys, RGN Gevallestudietegniek-enbesluitnemingsvraelys en die Biografiese vraelys. Hierdie meetinstrumente is as klassifikasieveranderlikes gebruik om die meetbare komponente van die konstruk selfaktualisering by bestuurders van 'n finansiele instelling te meet. Besuursukses, as kriteriumveranderlike, is met die prestasiebestuurevaluering- en werknemer -effektiwiteitsvraelys gemeet. Uit die statistiese analise (meervoudigeregressie-analise) blyk dit dat 15 klassifikasieveranderlikes met bestuursukses verband hou. Die meervoudige korrelasie R (aangepas vir getal gevalle en getal klassifikasieveranderlikes) is gelyk aan 0,54. Daar is dus in hierdie navorsing 'n verband gevind tussen die konsepte selfaktualisering en bestuursukses soos gemeet by bestuurders van 'n finansiele instelling. Verskeie klassifikasieveranderlikes toon 'n paraboliese verband met bestuursukses. Dit dui daarop dat 'n relatiewe aanwesigheid of sterkte van spesifieke persoonlikheidskenmerke noodsaaklik is vir bestuursukses. lndien 'n sekere optimale punt egter oorskry word, het dit 'n nadelige effek op bestuursukses. Die gevolgtrekking word gemaak dat die evalueringstegnieke en psigometriese instrumente wat in hierdie navorsing gebruik is en wat 'n verband (reglynig of parabolies) met bestuursukses getoon het, binne die finansiele instelling gebruik kan word om bestuurders met bestuurspotensiaal te identifiseer. Aanbevelings is ten opsigte van die gebruikswaarde van die konsep selfaktualisering vir die praktyk en vir verdere navorsing geformuleer.
This thesis examines the self-actualisation approach to management success within a financial institution. The premise is that managers who have already reached high levels of self-actualisation possess the personality traits (intrapersonal, interpersonal and work traits) that lead to management success. This premise, which is based on the points of view of the humanistic approach, has not yet been researched in a financial institution. The following literature objectives were achieved in this research: - An integrated view of the major humanistic personality theories, which serve as metatheoretic framework for this research, has been compiled. - The concept of self-actualisation has been defined and the personality traits of the self-actualising person identified. - The concept of management success has been defined and the personality traits of the successful manager identified. - Measurable management success criteria as well as measuring instruments for measuring these criteria have been identified. A psychometric test battery has been compiled from the General Health Questionnaire, Mental Alertness Test, Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire, Personal Orientation Questionnaire, Rotter Questionnaire, HSRC Case Study Technique and Decision-making Questionnaire and the Biographical Questionnaire. These measuring instruments were used as classification variables to measure the measurable components of the selj-actualisation construct among managers of a financial institution. Management success, as a criterion variable, was measured using the performance management evaluation and employee effectiveness questionnaires. From the statistical analysis (multiple-regression analysis) it is evident that 15 classification variables relate to management success. The multiple correlation R (adjusted for number of cases and number of classification variables) equals 0,54. A relation has therefore been found in this research between the concepts of selfactualisation and management success as measured in managers of a financial institution. Several classification variables show a parabolic relation to management success. This indicates that a relative presence or strength of specific personality traits is essential for management success. However, when a certain optimal point is exceeded, this has a detrimental effect on management success. The conclusion is reached that the evaluation techniques and psychometric instruments used in this research, which showed a relation (whether rectilineal or parabolic) with management success, may be employed at a financial institution to identify managers with management potential. Recommendations in respect of the usefulness of the self-actualisation concept for the practical environment and for future research were formulated.

Chapter 2 examines imagery of medicine and disease in late-republican oratory and their use as a means of conceptualizing disorder and persuading and justifying a range of actions. After a brief overview of medical imagery in republican politics, including in earlier periods, the chapter turns to a consideration of Roman preconceptions about medical knowledge and practice. Republic images of disease are also distinguished from similar Greek imagery. Commonplace appeals to salus rei publicae, “the health or wellbeing of the state,” as justifications for violent interventions are also read through the lens of medical necessity. It is argued that imagery involving medicine was useful in part for its capacity to characterize disparate courses of action, no matter what they actually were, as salutary for the republic, while enabling the interests of one’s political enemies to be written off as causes of harmful disease. A close reading of the arguments of Cicero and his opponents in the Pro Sestio shows these tendencies in action.
