Abstract:
It is well known that the concept of left serial ring is a Morita invariant property and a theorem due to Nakayama and Skornyakov states that “for a ring [Formula: see text], all left [Formula: see text]-modules are serial if and only if [Formula: see text] is an Artinian serial ring”. Most recently the notions of “prime uniserial modules” and “prime serial modules” have been introduced and studied by Behboodi and Fazelpour in [Prime uniserial modules and rings, submitted; Noetherian rings whose modules are prime serial, Algebras and Represent. Theory 19(4) (2016) 11 pp]. An [Formula: see text]-module [Formula: see text] is called prime uniserial ( [Formula: see text]-uniserial) if its prime submodules are linearly ordered with respect to inclusion, and an [Formula: see text]-module [Formula: see text] is called prime serial ( [Formula: see text]-serial) if [Formula: see text] is a direct sum of [Formula: see text]-uniserial modules. In this paper, it is shown that the [Formula: see text]-serial property is a Morita invariant property. Also, we study what happens if, in the above Nakayama–Skornyakov Theorem, instead of considering rings for which all modules are serial, we consider rings for which every [Formula: see text]-serial module is serial. Let [Formula: see text] be Morita equivalent to a commutative ring [Formula: see text]. It is shown that every [Formula: see text]-uniserial left [Formula: see text]-module is uniserial if and only if [Formula: see text] is a zero-dimensional arithmetic ring with [Formula: see text] T-nilpotent. Moreover, if [Formula: see text] is Noetherian, then every [Formula: see text]-serial left [Formula: see text]-module is serial if and only if [Formula: see text] is serial ring with dim[Formula: see text].

Abstract:
We define prime uniserial modules as a generalization of uniserial modules. We say that an [Formula: see text]-module [Formula: see text] is prime uniserial ([Formula: see text]-uniserial) if its prime submodules are linearly ordered by inclusion, and we say that [Formula: see text] is prime serial ([Formula: see text]-serial) if it is a direct sum of [Formula: see text]-uniserial modules. The goal of this paper is to study [Formula: see text]-serial modules over commutative rings. First, we study the structure [Formula: see text]-serial modules over almost perfect domains and then we determine the structure of [Formula: see text]-serial modules over Dedekind domains. Moreover, we discuss the following natural questions: “Which rings have the property that every module is [Formula: see text]-serial?” and “Which rings have the property that every finitely generated module is [Formula: see text]-serial?”.

As a proper generalization of injective modules in term of supplements, we say that a module M has the property (SE) (respectively, the property (SSE)) if, whenever M ( N, M has a supplement that is a direct summand of N (respectively, a strong supplement in N). We show that a ring R is a left and right artinian serial ring with Rad(R)2 = 0 if and only if every left R-module has the property (SSE). We prove that a commutative ring R is an artinian serial ring if and only if every left R-module has the property (SE).

Abstract:
AbstractDedekind domains, Artinian serial rings and right uniserial rings share the following property: Every cyclic right module is a direct sum of uniform modules. We first prove the following improvement of the well-known Osofsky-Smith theorem: A cyclic module with every cyclic subfactor a direct sum of extending modules has finite Goldie dimension. So, rings with the above-mentioned property are precisely rings of the title. Furthermore, a ring R is right q.f.d. (cyclics with finite Goldie dimension) if proper cyclic (≇ RR) right R-modules are direct sums of extending modules. R is right serial with all prime ideals maximal and ∩n ∈ ℕJn = Jm for some m ∈ ℕ if cyclic right R-modules are direct sums of quasi-injective modules. A right non-singular ring with the latter property is right Artinian. Thus, hereditary Artinian serial rings are precisely one-sided non-singular rings whose right and left cyclic modules are direct sums of quasi-injectives.

In this paper, we design and implement general parameterized IP (Intellectual Property) cores of convolutional encoder with SMIC 0.35μm CMOS technology, serial structure and parallel structure respectively. And analyze each of the power dissipation using Synopsys PTPX tool. The result shows the parallel circuit structure saves 14 percent power dissipation compared to that of serial circuit structure, with the same encode radio. Meanwhile, computing speed of parallel structure with 8-bit parallelism is 8 times than that of serial structure under the same clock frequency. Certainly, serial circuit structure has their particular characters such as easily realized and less resource consumption.

Analysis of the partner situation illustrates phenomena in society that many do not understand the legal consequences of serial marriages, including regarding the inheritance and legal status of children from serial marriages. The problem that arises is when there are still residents who carry out serial marriages (not recorded), and then issues arise regarding inheritance rights when the husband dies, as well as joint property rights when there is a divorce. The approach to solving partner problems is the lecture and question-and-answer method. The evaluation results showed that community understanding increased significantly after being given socialization, with evaluation accuracy reaching 98%. The purpose of this socialization is to increase the understanding of the community of SMP Islam Muqorrobin Malang regarding the legal consequences of serial marriage.

Abstract:
Based on the sample of serial M&A of Chinese listed companies from 2010–2019, this paper intends to investigate the impact of serial M&A on innovation performance and the impact of financing constraints and digital inclusive finance (DIF). The empirical results show that an inverted U-shaped relationship exists between serial M&A and innovation performance that first goes up and then goes down. The results of mechanism analysis show that financing constraints play a mediating role in the inverted U-shaped relationship between serial M&A and innovation performance, while DIF plays a moderating role in the mediating effect of serial M&A on innovation performance through the financing constraint. The heterogeneity analysis finds that the inverted U-shaped relationship between serial M&A and innovation performance is more significant in firms with non-state ownership property, a higher business environment index, and medium and large-scale firm size. The research results not only help to promote the in-depth analysis of the impact of serial M&A on innovation performance, but also help to provide targeted theoretical reference and practical guidance for corporate management decision making.

Abstract:
The focus of the present study is on managerial organization employed for serial properties registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The research examines a specific type of cultural heritage, precisely the sites, which combine architecture and landscape design, such as princely estates, palace and park ensembles or villas. Widely spread in Europe, they reflect upon historical past of the countries, evoking ideas of a nation state and identity. The research examines former Imperial residences turned museums located in the suburbs of St. Petersburg. Six palace and park ensembles are included into the UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS): ‘Historic Center of St. Petersburg and related groups of monuments’ [WHS №540bis]. On one hand, these estates are uniformly perceived as a whole, due to their association with the Russian Imperial family, their uniform inscription as a serial property within a single UNESCO world heritage site and a brand of ‘the Golden/Emerald/Green Necklace/Ring of St. Petersburg’. On the other hand, disproportionate differences in administration, territorial subordination, state of conservation, services and offers, promotion and visibility demonstrate the residence museums to be separate parts of a disintegrated system. Consequently, the research aims to analyse the model of St. Petersburg suburban residence museums’ in its functioning, taking into consideration multiple aspects, such as legal status, administration, management, visitors, services, etc. Accordingly, to provide a comprehensive study of the St. Petersburg model and to examine some of its components in depth, an extensive analysis of relevant European practices is implemented. The examples selected in Germany and Italy comprise: Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin [WHS N. 532ter, 1990], Residences of Ludwig II in Bavaria (nomination resubmitted); The Residences of the Royal House of Savoy [WHS N.23bis, 1997], Medici Villas and Gardens in Tuscany [WHS N.175, 2013].

Abstract:
The aim of this research project is to analyse the evolution of the heritage development process in time and space. It sets out to study the transformations and urban reproductions of the historic centre of Bologna from the period of the unification of the new Italian state to the inclusion of the city's porticoes on UNESCO's World Heritage List. It takes as its starting point the renewed representations and practices of the city's inhabitants, and the parallel institutionalisation of urban heritage at different scales. The history of this urban area and its gradual integration into a wider municipal territory demonstrates the diversification of cultural properties over the period in question, from national monuments to the diffuse heritage that forms the basis of local typicality. It reveals a heritage system made up of interconnected and polarised architectural and town-planning elements. This composition is the result of the stratification and articulation of heritage developments, of which the historic centre is the archetype.Following a geohistorical approach, this thesis sets out to compare, in time and space, the relationships between actors and their cultural properties. The aim is not only to gain a deeper understanding of the increasing complexity of heritage, but also to examine heritage development as a socio-spatial dynamic that interacts with spatial planning and territory management

AbstractWe define two simple systems of rules, i.e. calculi with a global condition on the order of rule instances in a proof, for the modal logics of shift-reflexive and Euclidean frames respectively. Cut-elimination, and therefore the subformula property, can be derived directly from the cut-elimination property of adjacent logics. We compare our system to the calculus of grafted hypersequents, which has previously been used to capture both logics. We then discuss an attempt to obtain similar ‘modular’ cut-elimination proofs in other systems of rules. This general attempt is carried out for two more logics, namely the modal logic of serial frames and the intermediate logic axiomatised by the law of the weak excluded middle.

Abstract:
In this paper the stability and observability of a controlled serial kinematic chain are analyzed with reference to a characterization of observability and stability for a stochastic system grounded in the application of Shannon theory to controlled systems. This approach was proposed in 2004 by H. Touchette and S. Lloyd. In particular it is analyzed in depth the case in which errors on the joints follow (concentrated) Gaussian distributions. In this case the property of Lie Groups (and related tangent space Lie algebra), studied from G. Chirikjian et al., allow to carry out the study of stochastic serial kinematic chains in a simplified way and to properly identify stability and observability conditions from a Shannon information standpoint.

Abstract:
Property Directed Reachability (PDR) is a relatively new SAT-based search paradigm for classical AI planning. Compared to earlier SAT-based paradigms, PDR proceeds without unrolling the system transition function, and therefore without having the underlying procedure reason about potentially computationally expensive multi-step formulae. By maintaining a queue of obligations - i.e., a state at a timestep - and knowledge about what is possible at each planning step, PDR iteratively evaluates whether an obligation can be progressed by one step towards the goal. We develop and evaluate two new distributed PDR algorithms for planning, and additionally implement serial and portfolio PDR algorithms for planning. We are the first to consider distributed PDR for planning and the first to consider PDR based on incremental SAT solving in that setting. Our first new algorithm, PS-PDR, evaluates many obligations independently in parallel using a pool of incremental SAT workers. PS-PDR is unique amongst distributed PDR algorithms in centrally maintaining a single queue of obligations, enabling an efficient focused search compared to a PDR portfolio. Our second new algorithm, PD-PDR, sequences subproblems according to the compositional structure of the concrete problem at hand. Subproblems are solved independently in parallel, with a concrete plan obtained by combining subproblem plans. Our experimental evaluation exhibits strong runtime gains for both new algorithms in both satisfiable and unsatisfiable planning benchmarks.

Bone tissue properties in nearly all rodent studies are thus limited to estimates from flexural tests of long bone diaphyses. In addition to the inaccuracies imposed by the bending stress state itself, these material property estimates are further confounded by the non-uniform geometry of long bones along the diaphyseal length. The goal of this work was to develop a series of techniques to improve the accuracy and precision of material property measurements in rodent long bones, with explicit mathematical correction for geometrical complexity and multiple measurements from individual bones. In combination, these techniques provide a pragmatic serial test routine for collecting multiple direct measurements of cortical tissue elastic modulus and strength, with a potential for improving sensitivity and statistical power in skeletal studies using rodents.

Abstract:
Transverse-regularity is a point-wise manipulator property, ensuring that the singular set Σ is locally a smooth manifold. A generic manipulator is one which is transverse-regular in any configuration. The contribution of this paper is a necessary and sufficient condition for transverse-regularity. The condition is based on the manipulator’s joint screws and their screw products. An expression for the tangent space to Σ at transverse-regular singularities is derived. It is shown that a manipulator is non-generic if it can attain a pose where the rank of the manipulator’s screw system together with the screw products is not the maximal rank of the Jacobian. A necessary and sufficient criterion for degree-one singularities is given in terms of the mechanism’ joint screws. In particular, any non-redundant manipulator is transverse-regular in a degree-one singularity.

Abstract:
Consistent process control of wheel hardness and residual stresses developed during heat treatment are particularly important considerations for service life and safety of railway wheels. This paper details the process controls strategically located throughout an integrated, fully automated heat treatment system that can heat treat up to 65 railway wheels per hour. New, innovative technology such as in-line temperature measurements that control key process steps, uniform wheel heating and cooling, and quench water temperature and pressure control have resulted in wheel hardness and residual stress values with less statistical variation than older, traditional heat treat methods. Automatic serial number tracking and temperature measurement allow for statistical analysis of heat treat processes. Two years after the commissioning of this $18M facility, the quality and productivity benefits realized are discussed.

Abstract:
In an effort to identify alternative and beneficial use placement strategies for dredged sediments from the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW), the US Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District (SAS), and the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) performed a series of physical property tests of 34 core borings from the SAS AIWW. Physical property testing found that 14 of the borings were non-cohesive sandy materials that may be suitable for potential beach renourishment or berm construction. The remaining 20 borings had mud contents sufficient enough to result in cohesive behavior. A subset of six of these materials from across the geographic region were further evaluated to characterize their erosion behavior. Following a self-weight consolidation period of 30 days, erosion testing showed that the tested cohesive sediments had critical shear stress values that ranged from 1.7 Pa to 2.9 Pa, suggesting that these sediments would likely be resistant to erosion in most wetland environments after placement. Additionally, the cohesive sediments were found to produce gravel-sized mud clasts. These clasts could account for 20% or more of the eroded mass and significantly reduce the amount of silts and clays incorporated in suspended plumes during and immediately following placement.

Abstract:
Over the last decade, Chile has undertaken remarkable reforms and transferred publicly owned utilities to the private sector either by selling the assets or through concession agreements. Because of the reforms the country has been able to attract private participation in the provision of public services like energy, transportation, telecommunications, potable water and sewage. In this paper, the authors analyze a series of post-privatization disputes and renegotiations that have taken place in Chile since the late 1980s in the electricity sector. This sector was chosen because the privatization process was, to a large extent, completed a decade ago, providing enough time to properly evaluate negotiations and disputes. The paper also assesses how lessons learned in the reform of electricity were internalized in the design of the regulatory framework for other concessions.

Full text
Abstract:
Backward erosion piping is a form of internal erosion that endangers the structural stability of levees and dams. Understanding the factors that influence this form of erosion can result in improved risk assessment and more appropriate modifications to new and existing structures. Historically, it has been assumed that the presence of silt size particles would reduce the gradient required for erosion. This study investigated the influence of fines content on backward erosion piping through a series of laboratory experiments on silty sands. Laboratory results show that as the fines content increased in the samples, so too did the gradient required to produce and progress piping to failure. The results indicate that a new factor is needed to properly account for silt content in backward erosion piping (BEP) risk assessment of silty sands.

Chantilly, Virginia: Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), January 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.55274/r0011772.

Abstract:
Much work has been done to assess constraint effects on the crack-driving force for specimens and cracks in pipes. The material's transition temperature where the fracture process changes from ductile tearing to cleavage fracture at crack initiation is affected by the constraint conditions but is a material property that cannot be determined analytically. This paper presents a methodology to account for constraint effects to predict the lowest temperature where ductile fracture initiation occurs and relates that temperature back to Charpy impact data for X60 and lower grades, particularly for older vintage linepipe materials. The method involves a series of transition temperature shifts to account for thickness effects, strain-rate effects, and constraint effects to give a master curve of transition temperatures from Charpy data to through-wall-cracked or surface-cracked pipes (with various a/t values) under quasi-static loading. These transition temperature shifts were based on hundreds of pipe tests and thousands of specimen tests over several decades of work by numerous investigators. This method is being validated by examining 1927 and 1948 vintage linepipe steels. In addition, data have been developed on the 1927 vintage pipe material to assess the effect of the bluntness of a corrosion flaw on the lowest temperature where ductile fracture will still initiate under quasi-static loading. An additional transition temperature shift occurs as a function of the bluntness of the flaw.
