Abstract:

Con il presente lavoro si propone la ricostruzione di un complesso funerario di età romana scoperto a Roma, nei pressi di Porta Maggiore, sul finire del XIX secolo (1871). Lo studio è stato condotto attraverso l'analisi critica dei dati offerti dalla documentazione di scavo, dalle foto d'archivio, dalle indicazioni topografiche e dai materiali epigrafici. L'articolo prende in esame le iscrizioni sepolcrali scoperte all'interno di questi ambienti, pubblicate nel sesto volume delCorpus Inscriptionum Latinarum(CILVI, 5961–6148). Grazie al ritrovamento di due fotografie, scattate durante gli scavi del 1871 da John Henry Parker, si è ora in grado di restituire all'originario contesto sepolcrale un gruppo di epigrafi, cui era stata finora attribuita un'erronea provenienza. L'obiettivo del presente lavoro è quello di contribuire, attraverso l'utilizzo di fonti diverse, alla comprensione dello sviluppo archeologico e topografico di quest'area, ripercorrendo le successive fasi di occupazione del sepolcreto che qui fu prese forma.

IL MAUSOLEO DI Q. APULEUS MAXSSIMUS A EL AMROUNIIl mausoleo di El Amrouni (Tunisia), nel mostrare associati elementi pertinenti ad ambiti culturali tra loro differenti, fornisce una testimonianza di grande interesse per la conoscenza della “civilizzazione del limes”. Il proprietario del sepolcro e la sua famiglia, di origine indigena, sono ricordati in due iscrizioni: una in latino, l'altra in neopunico. Il monumento, in forma di torre, presenta grandi bassorilievi con scene mitologiche di ispirazione greco-latina piuttosto che non semitica od orientale (Orfeo con animali selvaggi; Orfeo agli Inferi; Ercole ed Alcesti), insieme al ritratto dei defunti. Altre scene mitologiche ornavano l'epistilio (Licurgo nell'atto di tagliare le viti; figura di un genio e rami di acanto). Agli angoli della torre si trovano pilastri di stile corinzio. Gli elementi epigrafici e la decorazione architettonica permettono di collocare il mausoleo alia fine del I sec. d.C. o nel primo terzo del II sec. Il sepolcro di questa famiglia associa dunque elementi culturali tra loro contraddittori rivelando così la propria pertinenza ad una cultura punico-libica nella lingua e greco-romana nella iconografia.

P. FAIANIUS PLEBEIUS, FORUM NOVUM E TACITOUn'iscrizionedi Forum Novum(CILIX 4786) menziona l'attività evergetica di un P. Faianius Plebeius, personaggio eminente e magistrato del municipio all'inizio dell'impero. Si tratta esclusivamente di opere idrauliche (un acquedotto, fontane), in gran parte realizzate a spese di Faianius, utilizzando l'acqua di sorgenti di sua proprietà. Il percorso dell'acquedotto, in parte conservato, permette di identificare il sito di queste sorgenti e il fundus relativo, di cui fanno parte una villa e un grande sepolcro ad esedra. La rarità del gentilizio e una serie di altri indizi giustificano la possibile identificazione del personaggio con il Faianius menzionato da Tacito (Annales 1.73.1-2), accusato di maiestas nel primo anno del regno di Tiberio.

Abstract In 1776, the convent of Elizabethan Nuns in Prague’s New Town was commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of two events: the profession of the former Mother Superior M. Deodata a Presentatione B. V. Mariae OSE (née Anna Justina von Klausniz) and the laying of the foundation stone of the convent building. The celebrations of this dual anniversary were also reflected in the institution’s musical life. There was a performance at the convent of a congratulatory cantata with a libretto by the ex-Jesuit Rochus Elinger, and music was composed for it by the local choirmaster M. Juliana a Septem BB. Patribus OSE. On Holy Saturday, there was a performance of the sepolcro Der verlorne Sohn (The Prodigal Son), composed by Emilián Rickert OCist. from the monastery in Zbraslav. That same year, Jáchym Štěpanovský, the cantor from České Budějovice, also dedicated his works to the Mother Superior.

Abstract:

Il saggio ricostruisce la vicenda della Milizia di Terra Santa, svoltasi a margine della prima guerra arabo-israeliana nell'estate 1948. Di fronte ai pericoli che incombevano sui Luoghi santi di Gerusalemme, in alcuni ambienti cattolici sorse l'idea di inviare una spedizione di volontari cristiani a difesa dei santuari. Tutte le proposte in tal senso, avanzate dall'Ordine di Malta, dai Cavalieri del Santo Sepolcro e dalla delegazione romana di Terra Santa, fallirono e nessuna delle progettate spedizioni ebbe un'attuazione pratica. Ciň nonostante, questi episodi, e in particolare quello della Milizia francescana, richiamarono l'attenzione della stampa internazionale e delle diplomazie. Sconfessata dal Vaticano e dall'ordine minoritico e osteggiata dalle diplomazie occidentali, la progettata Milizia non ebbe seguito. Tuttavia il grande successo presso fedeli e pubblica opinione dimostra come l'idea, collegando il tema della protezione dei santuari a un possibile ruolo italiano nella regione, riuscisse a riscuotere notevoli consensi. Proprio per questo, l'episodio appare un punto d'osservazione privilegiato per valutare come il mondo cattolico italiano si confrontň con la nascita d'Israele e il tramonto dell'influenza europea nel Levante.

In 1972 Fr Charles Coüasnon, O.P., gave the Schweich Lectures to the British Academy on this subject. As consultant architect to the restoration work he seemed well qualified to do so. But work continued until 1980, and it was not until 1982 that Fr Virgilio Corbo, O.F.M., published a definitive account of the work, Il Santo Sepolcro di Gerusalemme, in three handsome volumes. I did not succeed in obtaining a copy until 1984. Thus it was not surprising that Canon Ronald Brownrigg's Come, See the Place: the ideal companion for all travellers to the Holy Land, 1985, still treats Fr Couasnon as having had the last word, and prints plans some of which are erroneous. Only since then has an article in Le Monde de la Bible, Mars-Avril, Paris, 1984, no.33, in a number devoted entirely to the Holy Sepulchre, by Fr Florentino Dfez Fernandez, O.S.A.,3 reached me, describing in a summary form his excavations for the Greek Orthodox Community on the site of Golgotha, and for the Armenian Community behind the Crusader Chapel of St Helena. A definitive account of his work is eagerly awaited, for his work adds to our knowledge and corrects some previous misconceptions of the chronology of the site.

Abstract:

During his sojourn in Rome from 1524 to 1527, Rosso painted a panel of a dead Christ with angels for his friend Leonardo Tornabuoni, bishop of Borgo San Sepolcro. Vasari saw the painting in the house of Giovanni della Casa at mid-century, but subsequently it was lost from general sight until the 1950s, when it was acquired by the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (Fig. 1). The panel has been assessed by art historians as one of signal importance, at once a high water mark in Rosso's own work and masterpiece of the early Roman maniera, a painting remarkable for its great beauty and artfulness, composed after long study of Michelangelo and the antique. The first considered estimation of the work emphasized its sculptural qualities, its formal tensions in pose and color, and its artistic virtuosity, suggesting that the subject was a version of the imago pietatis, reworked into a resurrecting Christ, emblematic of the patron's titular see. Although still impressed with the suavity of the panel in relation to Rosso's previous work, a subsequent critic was more conscious of its ambivalences, discerning a continuity with the young Rosso's individualistic and eccentric sensibilities, finally identifying the subject as an assertion of the eucharistic real presence. Analogies with language have been advanced, among them an allusion to the intensely equivocal nature of the painting. For one scholar the artfulness of the panel and Rosso's artistic attitudes were separate from their religious purpose; for another, they were absolutely at odds.

Abstract:

El documento analiza el papel desempeñado por los status symbols en el funeral de los reyes de Sicilia. Esta investigación aplica el conocimiento arqueológico, antropológico y histórico, para contar la acción de la corte siciliana, que resuelve las cuestiones sobre los problemas de representación del funeral real. De esta forma, se evalúan las estrategias de comunicación orientadas al timor reventiae, que configuran las costumbres funerarias de los soberanos de Sicilia. Por lo tanto, se abre un nuevo horizonte de investigación para la fenomenología del dolor. This contribution analyses the role of status symbols during the burial of the kings of Sicily. This research applies archaeological, anthropological and historical knowledge. Information reported to the work of Sicilian sovereigns’ entourage, which solved those issues related to the problems in representing the royal funeral. In this way, communication strategies of the timor reverentiae, which shaped the funerary customs of Sicilian sovereigns, were studied. Therefore, a new horizon in the research regarding the phenome nology of grief has opened up.

Abstract:

L’Ordine di antica origine, costituito, riordinato, ampliato ed arricchito di privilegi dai Sommi Pontefici. Rioganizzato da Pio IX (1847 e 1868) e da Leone XIII (1888); San Pio X (1907) riservo al Sommo Pontefice il Gran Magistero, e Pio XI uni ad esso L’Opera della Preservazione della Fede in Palestine. Successivamente Pio XII (1940) diede all’Ordine un Cardinale come „Patrono”; il 14 sett. 1949 istitui un Cardinale come „Gran Maestro dell’Ordine”, affidandogli il governo del medesimo, e fïssando la Sede centrale dell’Ordine Equestre in Roma, mentre la sede storica è a Gerusalemme. Giovanni XXIII, con Breve dell’8 die. 1962, approvo l’aggiornamento degli statuti, e Paolo VI, in data 8. lu. 1977, ha concesso la Sovrana approvazione al nuovo Statuto. L’Ordine é „laica Associazione di Fedeli sotto la protezione della Santa Sede”. Adesso lo statuto propone due finalità fondamentali: 1. rafforzare nei suoi Membri la pratica della vita cristiana in assoluta fedeltà al Sommo Pontefice; 2. sostenere le opere e le istituzioni della Chiesa Cattolica in Terra Santa, particolarmente quelle del Patriarchato Latino di Gerusalemme. L’organizzazione centrale dell’Ordine é cosi strutturata: l.il Gran Maestro; 2. il Gran Priore dell’Ordine; 3. un Ufficio di Presidenza; 4. un Gran Magistero; 5. la Consulta. L’organizzazione territoriale si configura in Luogotenenze e Delegazioni Magistrali, ciascuma guidata a sua volta da un Luogotenente e Delegato Magistrale laico, da un Gran Priore e da un Consiglio. La consistenze numerica dei Membri dell’Ordine si aggira sui 18.000 tra Cavalieri, Dame ed Ecclesiastici, ripartiti in poco meno di 50 Luogotenenze e Delegazioni Magistrali, di cui grosso modo una ventina nell’Emisfero Occidentale (prinzipalmente Stati Uniti e Canada) e altrettanto in Europa, di cui 4 in Italia. Quanto al modo con cui si divente Membri dell’Ordine, le procedure sono sostanzialmente due: su richieste e per cooptazione. Oggi l’Ordine del Santo Sepolcro gode di buona salute. II numero dei suoi Membri e delle sue Luogotenenze aumenta in misura ragionevole, il livello delle risorse economiche raccolte cresce ogni anno. II morale e l’entusiasmo dei aderenti, la loro fedeltà al Sommo Pontefice ed al Gran Maestro sono esemplari e stimolanti.

Abstract:

AbstractHistorical air temperatures at three karst caves in Slovenia have been compared to current data time series. In Postojnska Jama (PJ), the most visited show cave in Slovenia, the significant temperature difference between historical and modern measurements at the Pulpito site relates to the months April to November. Mean monthly temperatures measured at the Sepolcro site (PJ) in the modern period (2016–2019) are year round significantly higher than in the historical period (1935–1937). The temperature increase over the last 85 years in PJ is attributed to outside temperature rise and additional heat input from visitors, especially for Sepolcro site. A comparison of current (2017–2019) and historical (1956–1957) temperature data in touristically poorly visited Predjama Cave shows lower increase as in PJ and is completely related to outside cave conditions. In the case of Škocjanske Jame (Tiha Jama), air temperature has not significantly increased since the historical 1928 measurements because the monitoring site looks to be morphologically isolated from significant impacts of outside climate and visitors.
