Abstract:
The development of Superelastic nickel-titanium archwires has simplified the alignment phase of orthodontic treatment by permitting the use of highly flexible, resilient archwires and avoiding the need for complex loops. The majority of relatively high cost has led to sterilization and recycling of these wires by some clinicians. This study way designed to examine the effects of currently used infection contorl procedures on the mechanical properties of superelastic nickel-titanium alloy (SENTA®) archwires. One-hundred-and-forty lengths of a SENTA® wire were subjected to various sterilization and disinfection procedures. These included cold disinfection in 2 per cent glutaraladehyde solution for 3-and 24-hour cyles, and steam autoclaving. Single and double cycles were used. The properties investigated were the 0·1 per cent yield strengh, the ultimate tensile strength, and the flexural regidity. No statistically significant differences were found between the groups or against an untreated control.

Abstract:
Strength based design is commonly used in the design of resisting earthquake building. It is analyzed by linear elastic method so that it can’t describe the seismic behaviour of the structures. For that reason, the design of structure needs to consider performance based design. Irregularity of structure play important role for the results of Structure Performance. This paper uses five models of 20 storey reinforced concrete building with same height(76 m) and areas(750m2) with different plan configurations: rectangular, T, L, U, and H-shaped. Non linear time history method is used to investigate the seismic behaviour of the structures, using finite model with ETABS2016. Dimension of structures are column (600 x1000 mm), shear wall (400mm), couple-beam (400x900 mm), slab (140mm). Recorded accelorogram used in this paper are Altadena, Array, Corralit, LACC, and Yermo because it has almost same earthquake mechanism, magnitude, and epicentrum distance, so that they are used as an artificial accelorogram that is synthesized using Wavelet Function according to SNI 1726-2012.Result shows that the story drift and plastic hinges for collapse prevention (CP) are: rectangular (story drift is 0.59% and amount of CP hinges are 8), H-shaped (1.58%/23), L-shaped (2.41%/30), U-shaped (4.59%/35), T-shaped (5.8%/58).

Abstract:
The Correlation between metabolic syndrome and physical fitness in elderly AbstractThe prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the elderly is quite high. One way to prevent metabolic syndrome is by being physical active. Physical activity can also improve cardiorespiratory fitness, joint flexibility, balance and muscle strength. This study aimed to determine the relationship between metabolic syndrome and cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, strength, and balance in the elderly. This study was a cross sectional study with a consecutive sampling technique on 118 elderly people in Yogyakarta. Metabolic syndrome was defined based on the diagnostic criteria from the Adult Treatment Panel. The instruments used to collect the data were a 6-minute walking test, sit and reach, hand grip dynamometer, leg and back dynamometer and standing on one leg. The analysis technique used the Spearman correlation test. The results of the study showed that 32 elderly had metabolic syndrome. Seventy out of 118 people had complete data for correlation analysis. There was a correlation between metabolic syndrome and leg muscle strength (r = -0.295, p = 0.013) and balance (r = -0.282, p = 0.018), but there was no correlation between metabolic syndrome and hand grip strength. back muscle strength (p = 0.405), cardiorespiratory fitness (p = 0.103) and flexibility (p = 0.488). It can be concluded that the elderly who are diagnosed with metabolic syndrome tend to experience weakened leg strength and decreased balance. Therefore, the elderly need to do physical activity to improve leg muscle strength and balance.

Abstract:
In this modern world of construction, the usage of cold formed steel has developed and started to widely used for main structures such as columns and beams. Cold formed steel is manufactured by folding a thin steel plate into desired model. This result in its relatively large width-to-thickness ratio. Therefore, the use of cold formed steel as a column to withstand compressive axial force is deemed ineffective because of its vulnerability to buckling failure. One of the ways to overcome buckling failure is to use built-up profile. The profiles in which are examined are R and 2R with the effective length of 2950mm and variated between fixed-fixed roller end and pinned-roller end. Whereas R profile is the combination of C and U channel. MIDAS FEA is a finite element-based software which is used to model the desired structures in this study. The results of the study showed calculations using MIDAS FEA are closer to the theoretical calculations of AISI S100-07 on the fixed-fixed roller end. The 2R profile provided 250% greater compressive strength value compared to the R profile. The fixed-fixed roller end resulted in 147% higher compressive strength compared to the pinned-roller end. The results using MIDAS FEA resulted in closer results to AISI S100-07.ABSTRAKPada dunia konstruksi modern penggunaan baja canai dingin sudah berkembang dan penggunaannya mulai banyak digunakan untuk struktur utama seperti kolom dan balok.

Abstract:
Scholars are often studying emojis as pure visual elements or as essential textual parts. Theories in this study bridge these subfields and examine emojis in both fields. This bridging understanding of emojis is applied to hashtag activism in the discursive Black Lives Matter debate to increase the comprehension of the impact of emojis. Emojis can be used in various hashtag activism as reinforcing visual elements that help put a figurative meaning to political movements. Emojis can also be used to change the intonation or meanings in computer-mediated communication and thereby be essential for understanding the textual meaning as a whole. The study is conducted with quantitative content analysis of tweets relating to two, here considered oppositional, hashtags; #blacklivesmatter and #alllivesmatter with the aim of receiving a comprehension of how the support of emojis affect the written statements. The study presents results and a thorough discussion that brings the conclusion of emojis having an immense impact, as both visual and textual support on the tweets written in this political online debate.

Abstract:
This chapter explores how congressional campaigning changed for PRI candidates from the hegemonic to democratic era. Under hegemonic conditions, PRI candidates had huge resource advantages, and enjoyed the benefits of weak opposition parties and strong party identification. Under these circumstances, one should expect that the candidates for the hegemonic party would campaign as little as possible: that is, they would shirk. However, the agents sent down from the national party headquarters monitored their campaigning performance and obligated them to remake and strengthen the ties between local leaders and the national party. Once competition drove up uncertainty, PRI congressional candidates worked hard to win their election even though they could not hope for a second term. Despite their resource restraints, they campaign actively, while the national party headquarters has taken over national media appeals and strategies on programmatic promises. Governors were and continue to be important components in congressional campaigns, as they are able to support their co-partisan candidates.

Letters sent in this year detail Formakov’s efforts to smuggle mail out of the camp, his two-week stay at a “house of rest” that gave favored inmates a chance to rebuild their strength, and his transfer from a relatively privileged indoor work assignment to a general work detail outdoors. During this period, Formakov’s wife sent him regular parcels of newspapers, which he bartered for money and food. Formakov also writes about his efforts to celebrate personal and religious holidays in camp and about the holiday programs staged by the Cultural-Educational Sector of Kraslag. Formakov comments on war news periodically in the correspondence. A special letter sent on May 9, 1945, records Formakov’s reaction to the Nazi capitulation.

The aim of this study is to identify/evaluate current labour satisfaction of the employees to analyse strengths and weaknesses of the labour conditions that will allow the suggestion of some improvement actions to the managers and test whether the proposed scale based on the EFQM model is a valid measurement scale for measuring job satisfaction in organizations. A descriptive analysis was used as methodology, and a questionnaire was sent to 55 employees of the thermal centre with the aim to collect data; the response rate was of a 76.36%. The obtained results show that the employees are satisfied with the organizational climate, 4.09 points in average, and the measuring instrument was tested and validated. Furthermore, it shows areas with possibilities of improvement are training, internal communication, knowledge and identification of objectives, and organization and change management, on the other hand, the areas that need to improve are the work conditions, the perception of the executives and salary. The Originality this paper is detect the dimension's strengths and weaknesses of the labour.

Abstract:
The previous chapter focused on changes in the education and roles of women in early twentieth-century eastern Europe and on later developments in the West. We considered the women and girls of Satmar, Bais Yaakov, and Habad, with some attention to the Habad sheluḥah, the empowered woman who, with her husband, was sent by Rabbi Menachem Mendel to strengthen Judaism and create a Habad outpost in a locale often far from the organized hasidic or haredi community where she was brought up. In this chapter I examine some of the details of this process, in which young hasidic women are transformed into charismatic sources of Jewish inspiration for their communities and sometimes further afield.

Abstract:
There were two sections which worked on the German military cipher known as ‘Fish’. One was called Mr Newman’s section and consisted mainly of civilian mathematicians assisted by Wrens and by the embryonic computers. Their task was to strip the first layer of disguise off the intercepted messages. This they did purely by the techniques of probability mathematics, for their product had no more obvious meaning than their raw material. Having got this far they sent the half-deciphered messages over to us in Major Tester’s section. (The Major existed, but was always a shadowy figure, neither much encouraging nor admonishing, nor indeed performing great feats of cryptography himself.) We were a more mixed bag, army officers if we were already so, RSMs (Warrant Officer Class I) if not (this saved time; the rank, at least equally well paid, could be conferred without officer training), one American lieutenant, and a few civilians who were nominally on the strength of some section of the Foreign Office. We were assisted by ATS girls, but by no analytical machines, for our task was the more intuitive one of seeing the clear German (or at least German obscured only by Wehrmacht jargon) under the second layer of cipher, and this was thought to be beyond the help of machines. I would guess, however, that what we did could now be easily computerised. Another retrospective reflection from the perspective of half a century on is that it was very odd that in both sections, despite the fact that the processes called for no strength of physique or even exercise of authority, the question of giving women other than subordinate jobs simply never arose. Tester’s section was divided into two parts. There were the ‘breakers’ and the ‘setters’. The breakers were obviously the elite. They were like matadors compared with picadors, except that they did their work first. Setting was relatively routine. You had to know all the properties of the cipher which had been discovered during the past three years or so, and work with logic and precision. But, if you did this, output for any individual was more or less predictable.

Abstract:
Chapter 4 discusses Walker’s gift of political and social activism and her leveraging of the number and voices of her agents to challenge Jim Crow. In a manner reflective of leading black women’s clubs and fraternal organizations of the day, Madam Walker organized her sales agents into local clubs and a national umbrella association to legitimize beauty culture as a profession, strengthen relations between them, and enlist them in doing charity and advocacy work in their communities that would last long after her death. The National Beauty Culturists’ and Benevolent Association of Madam C. J. Walker Agents, Inc., developed a model of associationalism, ritualism, and activism that galvanized Walker agents to serve their communities and the cause of racial uplift. Through it, agents regularly donated money to black schools and other organizations, held fundraising events, organized programs, and cared for the vulnerable in their communities. Together, they sent a resolution to President Woodrow Wilson demanding legislative action against lynching. The chapter reviews Walker’s unique ability to interact with black women across class differences, as exhibited by her engagement of working-class women in her agent clubs and the elite black women of the era through the National Association of Colored Women (NACW). Through these clubs and their rituals, Walker agents staked claims for themselves as respectable professionals, performed charitable works in black communities, and used their formidable numbers to speak out against lynching and Jim Crow.

Abstract:
The ductile cracking behavior of girth weld joints, in X80 and X100 grade linepipe, was investigated using single edge notched (SENT) specimens, notched round bar (NRB) specimens and wide plate (WP) specimens. FE analyses were carried out to evaluate critical conditions for ductile cracking at the notch tip. The effect of Y/T ratio of base material on ductile cracking for welded joints was also studied. Ductile cracking from the notch tip in WP specimens can be estimated by using the critical equivalent plastic strain, which can be obtained from SENT or NRB specimens. In addition, a simplified prediction method for ductile cracking by using effective opening displacement was proposed and its validity demonstrated by comparison to the equivalent plastic strain at the notch tip. With respect to the influence of material properties on ductile cracking behavior, deformability of joint to ductile cracking was enhanced by reduction of Y/T ratio of base material. Based on the experimental results and FE analyses, pipe design to prevent ductile cracking from surface flaws under large deformation was discussed.

Abstract:
In pipe-laying and reeling operations, high levels of plastic deformation may occur in the pipe wall. The effect of plastic deformation should be investigated and quantified in order to qualify a steel material for a given pipe-laying process. This paper presents a numerical modeling approach for realistic simulation of ductile fracture, including results from FE welding simulations. A 3D model of a SENT specimen is adopted, where crack propagation is modelled using a Gurson model. An elastic-plastic hardening model is used to capture the global deformation of the specimen. Results compare well with experiments. This work is part of an effort to develop an experimental and numerical framework where the influence of welding (HAZ properties, residual stresses and hardening) in fracture assessment. Preliminary results show that there is no influence of residual stresses on fracture strength of an X65 ductile steel.

Abstract:
During installation operations offshore pipes are often strained beyond yielding. Due to the high loading condition and the high costs of these operations it is important with accurate defect assessment analysis to avoid delays caused by unnecessary repairs or failure because of flaws that should have been detected and repaired. There is therefore a need for an accurate assessment procedure that can be a tool for defect assessment analysis for this application. It is commonly accepted that the fracture toughness is dependent on the geometry constraint at the crack tip. The traditional single edge notch bend (SENB) specimens have a high geometry constraint, and give lower bound fracture toughness for all geometries. For reeling operations these fracture toughness values are often too low to be used in defect assessment of reeling operations. The same is the assumption of plastic collapse when the net section stress is equal to the average between the yield strength and tensile strength. In this paper, the single edge notch tension specimen (SENT) is presented as an alternative fracture mechanics specimen. This specimen has a geometry constraint that is much closer to flaws in pipes than SENB specimens, which will give more realistic fracture properties of the pipe. In the procedure for defect assessments we present, both the fracture toughness and plastic collapse properties are taken from testing of SENT specimens. FE simulations and full scale testing verify the procedure.

Abstract:
The study of rapid ductile crack propagation and crack arrest is a central point if one wants to reach a higher safety level in pipelines. Correlations between Charpy tests and full scale burst tests proved to be unsuccessful in predicting pipe burst for recent high strength steels. This paper presents an experiment which allows to test large SENT specimens under dynamic loading, and to characterize steel resistance against rapid ductile crack propagation by a classical energetic parameter, called the crack propagation energy, R, proposed by Turner. The R parameter proved to be characteristic of the rapid crack propagation in the material, for a given specimen and loading configuration. Failure of the specimen under dynamic conditions occurs by shearing fracture which is the same as in a full scale burst test. An example is given for an X65 ferritic-pearlitic steel loaded under static and dynamic conditions. A fracture mode transition is shown following the loading rate. From a metallurgical point of view, shearing fracture occurs by nucleation, growth and coalescence of voids, as for classical ductile fracture.

Abstract:
This work focuses on the evaluation procedure to determine the elastic-plastic fracture toughness J-integral and CTOD based upon the η-method for welded SENT fracture specimens with clamped ends. The primary objective is to gain additional understanding on the effect of weld strength mismatch on estimation techniques to determine J and CTOD fracture parameters for a wide range of a/W-ratios and mismatch levels. Very detailed non-linear finite element analyses for plane-strain and 3-D models of SENT fracture specimens with center cracked, square groove welds provide the evolution of load with increased crack mouth opening displacement and load line displacement which are required for the estimation procedure. The results show that levels of weld strength mismatch within the range 10∼20% mismatch do not affect significantly J and CTOD estimation expressions applicable to homogeneous materials. The present analyses, when taken together with previous studies, provide an extensive body of results which serve to determine parameters J and CTOD for different materials using SENT specimens with varying geometries and mismatch levels.

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, the fatigue crack growth behavior of Zr702/TA2/Q345R composite plate with a through-wall crack and a crack normal to interface for SENT specimen are studied. For the through-wall crack, the mutual interference in fatigue crack growth rate is found. The crack growth rate of the through-wall crack on both sides in Zr702/TA2/Q345R composite plate depends on the difference of stress intensity factors amplitude caused by the different positions of crack tips on both sides and the crack growth rate in corresponding homogeneous material. For the crack normal to interface, two crack propagation directions are taken into account. When crack initiates from the lower strength material side, the crack growth rate decreases to the minimum before crack penetrates the interface. After crack penetrates the interface, crack growth rate accelerates continuously. When crack initiates from the higher strength material side, the fatigue crack growth rate generally increases with the crack length. For both crack forms, all experiment results demonstrate that the crack growth rate is dependent on the competition of the stress intensity factor amplitude, the crack growth rate in corresponding homogeneous material and the interface strength. Besides, finite element results show that elastic mismatch results in a significantly change in the distribution of stress intensity factor amplitude.

Abstract:
High-strength pipelines (API 5L grade X70 and above) provide viable economic options for large-diameter and high-pressure transmission of energy products. To facilitate the understanding and potential use of high-strength pipelines, the tensile strain capacity (TSC) of X80 and X100 girth welds was evaluated through a series of mechanical tests and analytical/computational modeling. The experimental tests include tensile, Charpy, SENT, and curved-wide-plate (CWP) tests. The TSC measured from CWP tests is compared with the prediction from TSC models developed at CRES. The TSC of the girth welds is assessed by comparing experimentally measured values with the expected TSC from similar welds. The assessment confirms that this particular set of X80 and X100 girth welds provide very good tensile strain capacity.

Abstract:
Fracture mechanics SENT testing and FE simulation to establish hydrogen influenced cohesive parameters for X70 structural steel welded joints have been performed. Base metal and weld simulated coarse grained heat affected zone have been included in the study. The base metal did not fail at net section stresses lower than 1.29 times the yield strength and reveals low sensitivity to hydrogen embrittlement. The weld simulated coarse grained heat affected zone was prone to fracture at stresses above 64% of the yield strength, which indicates hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility. The cohesive parameters best fitting the experiments are δc = 0.3 mm and σc = 1700 MPa (3.5·σy) for the base metal and δc = 0.3 mm and σc = 2100 MPa (2.6·σy) for the coarse grained heat affected zone.

Abstract:
In the framework of a pressurized water reactor primary loop replacement, elbows of different types were produced in cast austenitic stainless steel grade Z3CN 20-09 M. For that type of component, acceptance tests to check the sufficient mechanical properties include room and hot temperature tensile tests, following the RCC-M CMS – 1040 and EN 10002 specifications. A large test campaign on standard 10mm diameter specimens was performed and exhibited a high scattering in yield stress and ultimate tensile strength values. As a consequence, some acceptance tensile tests failed to meet the required minimal values, especially the ultimate tensile strength. Optical and electronic microscopy revealed that the low values were due to the presence of very large grain compared to the specimen gage diameter. However, tensile tests strongly rely on the hypothesis that the specimen gage part can be considered as a representative volume element containing a number of grains large enough so that their variation in size and orientation gives a homogeneous response. To confirm the origin of the scattering, a huge experimental tensile test campaign with specimens of different diameters was conducted. In parallel, FE calculations were also performed. From all those results, it was concluded that it was necessary to improve the RCC-M code for that type of test for cast stainless steel: to do so, a modification sheet was sent and is being investigated by AFCEN.
