Abstract:
Administrative effectiveness in secondary schools is germane to making education relevant to the growth of the society. The operational processes and functions in school administration depend on the good management of the documented activities of the school programs, infrastructures, staff and students found in school records for successful executions. Previous studies found that school records were basically created in paper formats which ran into many volumes with the problems of inadequate storage and in-effective preservation methods among others, although the studies did not use the records life cycle in the appraisal of the records management practices. These reported poor records management practices made the retrieval of school records difficult and sometimes impossible resulting in in-effective school administration. This paper examines the influence of records management practices on administrative effectiveness in public secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted for this study and the instrument for data collection was a questionnaire administered on a sample size of360 administrative team members in public senior secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. Data analysis was done using frequency counts and simple percentages to answer the research questions while regression analysis technique was employed to test he hypotheses. Research findings revealed that the schools have all the statutory and non- statutory records for proper and adequate administrative duties, the records management policy manual was available and the records management practices were based on the records life cycle in the public senior secondary schools in Lagos State. Additionally, the study found that the records creation stage was well managed while the maintenance and use stage were fairly managed and the disposition stage was poorly managed. Based on the findings, the study recommends the provision of equipment that would ensure that school records are properly stored, preserved and disposed to achieve best practices in records management for effective school administration.

The paper considers the experiment on practical approbation of the technique, accepted in foreign practice, of training of the students of high schools on a cycle adjusting lectures-independent work-consultations-testing with reference to study of a subject "Material Science". The experimental technique is tested on two grade levels: by the students of younger courses getting base knowledge, that is necessary for the students of all specialities, and at training the students of the senior courses for the special chapters of material science with reference to their future speciality. By results of experiment the conclusion is made that it is early to enter an experimental technique into practice of training of the students of younger courses, and for the students of the senior rates the foreign technique can serve as addition to a traditional technique of teaching.

Abstract:
Choosing a career can be hard when you have no idea what you want to do. However, there seems to be paucity of studies on career choices among senior high schools’ students in Ghana in general and Wa Municipality in particular. This study was intended to find out the career choices of students of Wa Senior High Technical School in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region of Ghana. A descriptive survey design was employed for the study. Data was collected from a sample of 80 students and 20 teachers using questionnaire. All respondents responded to the questionnaire. The data were presented in tables and charts and analysed using frequencies and percentages. The study found out that, the students needed career information, employment information, interpersonal needs, educational needs and self-understanding. The top career guidance needs of students as expressed by teachers and the school counsellor include educational information, study habits, interpersonal information, educational needs and career needs. The study also found that, the factors that influence students’ choice of career are extrinsic and interpersonal factors and they include perception of colleague/peer pressure, teachers’ influence, societal perceptions, availability of further training and occupational security. This helps students learn about and explore careers that ultimately lead to career choice. This played a critical role in shaping students career choice. It was recommended that Career Education and Guidance should be introduced in the primary school to enable children to explore the world of work as young people need to make a smooth transition from primary school to the initial years of Senior High School and the Ministry of Education should allocate fund for a Guidance and Counselling activities in all basic and second cycle schools. This will enable the guidance coordinators to function effectively at their various levels of work. Keywords: Career Choices, Challenges, Senior High Technical School, Students, Wa, Ghana.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate and review how the practices of Lesson Study fare in enhancing the professional capabilities of mathematics teachers when introduced as part of a pilot project in reforming the post-primary mathematics curriculum in Ireland. Design/methodology/approach – Totally, 250 mathematics teachers teaching Junior and Senior Cycle mathematics in 24 post-primary schools constitute the population of this study. The schools which participated are representative of the range of all post-primary schools in Ireland. Findings – Lesson Study has an important role to play in the continuing professional development of teachers in the 24 post-primary schools and beyond in Ireland. An investigation of the maths teachers’ engagement with Lesson Study reveals some considerable initial resistance. Reasons for this resistance are examined and the lessons learned from the steps taken to deal with this are reviewed. Lesson Study is an innovation that teachers need to understand deeply and to practice regularly through mutual support if they are to avail of it fruitfully. Accordingly, further approaches need to be explored, not least the important role of school leadership, to adapt Lesson Study more fully and more productively to the professional cultures of teaching in Ireland. Originality/value – An analytic and evaluative account of the challenges and complexities involved in introducing Lesson Study to post-primary schools in Ireland is presented for the first time.

Abstract:
The paper investigates teachers’ and principals’ experiences of implementing a pilot of an ethical education (EE) curriculum to a senior cycle programme in Educate Together secondary schools in Ireland. The development of this curriculum was informed by the Integrative Ethical Education Model (Lapsley and Narvaez, 2004). Thirteen teachers and two school principals were interviewed about their experiences of this curriculum and its impact on school culture and organisation. An implementation science approach informed a thematic analysis of transcripts that interrogated the perspectives of participants, and revealed the systemic factors that included barriers to, and facilitators of, EE curriculum implementation. Interviews were analysed inductively, by exploring participants’ experiences, and deductively, using Narvaez’s framework of ethical skills. Results were presented within the domains of school setting, wider school setting, curriculum characteristics and teacher characteristics, reflecting an implementation science approach. Findings suggest that this curriculum nurtured a positive school climate where students identified as having a greater sense of school belonging as a result of access to this curriculum.

Abstract:
Background Adolescents often experience menstrual irregularity in the first few years after menarche. Abnormal menstrual cycles may increase the risk of polycystic ovary syndrome. Objective To determine the menstrual cycle patterns of adolescent females in Indonesia and associated factors. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted at two senior high schools in Surakarta, Central Java, from September to October 2016. Subjects were healthy female students whose parents have given written informed consent. Girls taking hormonal drugs or with chronic diseases were excluded. Subjects filled questionnaires on menstrual cycle, diet, ethnicity, and physical activity. All subjects underwent anthropometric measurements (height and weight). Kruskal-Wallis test was used for data analysis. Results Four hundred and forty-four subjects met the inclusion criteria. Mean age at menarche was 12.27 (SD 1.08) years. Mean menstrual cycle length was 31.1 (SD 6.5) days. Abnormal menstrual cycle occurred in 30.6% of subjects (24.5% oligomenorrhea, 5.9% polymenorrhea, and 0.2% amenorrhea). Ethnicity (Javanese, Chinese, or Arab) was significantly associated with menstrual cycle category (P<0.05). Girls with Chinese ethnicity having the largest proportion of oligomenorrhea. Other factors (body mass index, age, age at menarche, nutritional status, physical activity, and fat intake) were not found to be associated with menstrual cycle abnormalities. Conclusion Menstrual abnormalities, especially oligomenorrhea, are common in Indonesian adolescent girls. Oligomenorrhea is more frequent in girls of Chinese ethnicity, compared to those of Javanese or Arab ethnicity.

Abstract:
Students at vocational high school are expected to have proper English proficiency along with their vocational skill. However, Indonesian government has already set the teaching model to be Text-based Instruction (TBI) which is same with senior high school. As a result, English lesson for vocational school indicated as less purposeful. Therefore, this paper is intended to design appropriate teaching model in ESP to be integrated with the teaching cycle in TBI. By reviewing underlaying theories from TBI, and Teaching model in ESP, this paper proposed two teaching model combined with TBI. The first integration is integrating TBI with the practices of Flipped Learning Model in which the activities are divided into two phases namely before classroom time and inside classroom time. The second integration is integrating TBI with the phases of Project Based Learning in which the activities will be divided into four phases. The two proposed teaching model will be useful for promoting writing activities for students. Finally, by proposing those teaching models, it is expected that the practice of English lesson in vocational school will meet its objectives.

This article outlines a study to examine if newly qualified teachers (NQTs) who had incorporated iPad within pedagogical practice during initial teacher education, continued to do so in their first two years of teaching, and also to identify the challenges to integration that emerged. Findings show that use of iPad in teaching, learning and assessment by NQTs during induction year was followed by a significant fall in Year 2. Deeply embedded external barriers at both system and individual school context level are shown to exert significant influence on the use of iPad within pedagogical practice. It is concluded that NQTs require ongoing support to maintain and develop their practice with technology, and also that significant reform is required at senior cycle in Irish secondary schools to enable technology integration.

Abstract:
This pioneer study unravelled the economic implications of Senior High School (SHS) curriculum to parents in the rural area of Jolo and the urban center of Zamboanga City. Finding out the significant difference of said implications to parents clustered according to: Area Status, and Children’s Grade Level and Children’s School Type, and SHS-Associated Factors causing financial difficulty to them in both areas are also within the confine of this endeavour. As an expose facto cross-sectoral and evaluative survey, this research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. One hundred twenty seven (127) respondents comprising of parents and senior high principals/coordinators/directors were determined through a Purposive sampling method. Weighted Mean, t-test (Independent Sample-Test), and Ordinal Scales were utilized in analysing the data. The findings are forwarded - The economic implications of the curriculum to parents in both areas are as follows: more spending for school and non-school needs of children, compromised other household expenses and needs of the family, difficulty to support the education of senior high and non-senior high children, compromised expenses on non- senior high children, increased in educational expenses, costly secondary education, increased of daily expenses, financial burden, difficulty to manage income, difficulty to deal with tuition and miscellaneous fees, difficulty to save money, compromised personal and social expenses, need to generate extra income and borrow money to support the education of children, difficulty to extend financially assistance to needy relatives and friends (rural respondents), and difficulty to attend to social obligations on regular basis (rural respondents). As to the extent/intensity of the implications, parents in SCT-SHS and NDJC-SHS in rural area are more affected by the curriculum than the rest. While in urban center, parents in DPLMHS-SASHS and TTNHS-SHS are more affected than those in the four senior high schools. Generally, the extent/intensity of the economic implications of the curriculum to parents in both areas is slight. Income and tuition fee are among the top-ranking pre-determined SHS-Associated Factors causing financial difficulty to parents in rural area and urban center, and in the twelve senior high schools in both areas. Specifically, parents are shelling-out an average of PhP35,000 to 45,000 every year for the senior high education of their children. From the study findings, the researcher developed a model dubbed as Cycle of Despondency. The curriculum increases the private costs of education and burgles effluent family of two years of indispensable child’s contribution in terms of labor opportunity cost. Above all, it is taxing to parents beyond their financial capability to cope. Scrapping it, however, is indubitably not an astute plan. Instead, immediate and sweeping review and modification are prudent stratagems to undertake since it is already running for four years now. Program mitigating its pecuniary repercussions to parents have to be devised, along with inflexible regulation of school fees and charges. The Civil Service Commission (CSC) and corporate entities have to amend some job “educational requirements” to accommodate senior high graduates in the labor market. Studies on the economic aspect of the curriculum must be launched by various social divides - to spot genuine recommendations in aid of legislation and curriculum planning in general and map out alternative methodologies to minimize its impacts to family in particular. Otherwise, the curriculum will completely end up in fiasco.

Abstract:
The social awareness of students is seemingly diminishing, as indicated by the lack of care and respect for others, alongside individualism and tendencies to act emotionally and swear. These attitudes have engendered insensitive, intolerant, and uncaring behaviors amongst students. Therefore, social sensitivity is a critical attitude that should be instilled in schools. This is because education facilitates the academic, psychological, and social growth of children and ensures they become smarter, wiser, and more humane. Using a collaborative learning approach in the Islamic Religious Education discipline, the research aimed to build students' social sensitivity by activating learning activities that motivate mutual help, respect, honesty, and collaboration. The participants in this Classroom Action Research (CAR) were 24 students from class X MIA2 Senior High School State 2 Bima City. The data collection was conducted via the test approach, comprising a pre-test and post-test, and complemented by observations, interviews, and documentation. Quantitative and quantitative techniques were used to analyze the results of the primary and secondary data sources, respectively. Subsequently, the research findings indicated that the students' social sensitivity increased by 20.84% from cycle I (70.83%) to cycle II (91.67%). In the pre-test, 8 students (33.33%) showed complete learning, increasing to 13 students (54.17%) in the first cycle (I) and 21 students (87.5%) in the second cycle (II). These findings can help Islamic Religious Education teachers understand the importance of new context-based learning methodologies and models. Allowing students to explore and discuss ideas in groups can also stimulate a love of learning and increase their social awareness. As a result, classroom experience and the importance of content in everyday life can serve as the basis for students' understanding and can be directly applied in their social life.

Abstract:
One of the traditional utilization forms using diverse plants was a self-care ritual, which was anciently previously found in the tradition performed by women in the Qadriyah Palace of Pontianak Sultanate. The self-care ritual was aimed to treat either health-related problems or common diseases. Therefore, this ethnobotany study of the women self-care ritual was purposely implemented through a folding poster media in the tenth-grade sub-material of Senior High Schools, regarding the utilization of biodiversity in the field of cosmetics and medicines. The learning activity was collaboratively carried out with the teachers, so that students can recognize and preserve the varieties of beneficial plants in their environmental surroundings. The class selected as the subject of this study was class of X IPA 2. The collaborative learning process took place in two meetings; beginning with plan 1, performance 1, reflection 1; and plan 2, performance 2, and reflection 2 simultaneously in each meeting, with a duration of 90 minutes. The first cycle successfully implemented the ethnobotanic self-care-based folding poster media, previously performed by women in the Qadriyah Palace of Pontianak Sultanate’s environment, which had previously been validated by lecturers and teachers and was declared fit for use. Meanwhile, in the cycle 2, the media used was a flipbook. The results showed that collaborative learning using ethnobotany-based media can promote an environmental caring attitude amongst the tenth-grade students of SMAN 10 Pontianak.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of 7E-Learning Cycle Model (7ELCM) and Lecture Method (LEM) as well as gender influence in promoting secondary school students’ critical thinking skills in chemistry. Two research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design with an overall sample of 146 (66 boys & 80 girls) Senior Secondary Two (SS2) chemistry students of public schools in Lagos State of Nigeria. Data were collected using Lesson Plan on 7ELCM and LEM (LP7L) and adapted Cornell Critical Thinking Test (CCTT). Validity of LP7L and CCTT were determined by two experts in chemistry education. KR 21 was used to determine the reliability of CCTT which gave a reliability coefficient of 0.87. Mean and ANCOVA were used in data analyses. The results showed that secondary school chemistry students exposed to 7E Learning Cycle Model (7ELCM) had higher mean score than students exposed to Lecture Method (LEM) in promoting critical thinking skills. Also, male students taught with 7ELCM and LEM had the highest mean scores than the females in promoting Critical Thinking Skills in chemistry. The study equally showed a significant interactive effect of 7ELCM and LEM on secondary school chemistry students but there was no significant interactive influence of male and female (gender) in promoting critical thinking skills among the secondary school chemistry students taught using 7ELCM and LEM respectively. The paper concludes that chemistry teachers should provide learning opportunities that would make students take ownership of their learning by compelling them to learn meaningfully, think critically, and criticize constructively as a team in solving problematic tasks through the application of 7ELCM irrespective of gender roles and recommends that Ministry of Education and school administrators should organize Train-the-Trainers workshop for all the secondary school chemistry teachers on how to incorporate 7ELCM pedagogy in promoting 21st century skills and improving chemistry students learning outcomes in Lagos State of Nigeria.

Abstract:
Naturally, code-switching occurs in a normal conversation between bilingual speakers who are familiar with the spoken languages as an intellectual trans-languaging process. A puzzling process, still in a positive way, that has been under the attention of linguists for decades regardless of the ethnographic or geographic characteristics of the spoken languages and/or their speakers. This research study explored this phenomenon from a pedagogical aspect that is directly linked with the Omani teachers of English Language of Cycle One (C1) Muscat Basic Education Schools (BES) as native speakers of Arabic. For the first time, yet beyond the classroom borders, the issue of code-switching is locally tackled from the continuous professional development outlook; the post lesson discussion (PLD) or as also known, the post classroom observation discussion. Qualitatively, the researchers investigated this controversial phenomenon, in the world of foreign languages, from the perspective of the English Language Supervision; Supervisors and Senior Supervisors, in specific, in relation to its functions and the driving reasons, potential pros and cons and how it could be handled properly. The findings of this case study address future educational implications to the best practices of the PLD interaction language as well as to promote heightened understanding of the C1 EFL teachers’ code-switching nature to manage it for the greater good of their continuous professional development (CPD).

Abstract:
COVID-19 has transformed education delivery and doubled the challenges of learners with special needs (LSENs) due to inaccessible assistive technologies and limited face-to-face interaction with special education teachers. Consequently, their parents were forced to teach without formal training (World bank, 2020). Thus, this sequential mixed method study aimed to improve the learners' selected Life Science competencies in animal reproduction, genetic engineering, animal survival, and evolution through Parent-Assisted Learning Plan (PALP). The PALP is a 3-week home instruction cycle introduced to the participants where the teacher who created the self-learning modules met one-on-one with the home learning facilitators (HLFs) to discuss the various concepts covered in the modules emphasizing real-world applications and demonstrating strategies in teaching the concepts to the participants at home. Six Grade 11 LSENs from Ferdinand E. Marcos Senior High School participated in this study. The data came from validated 50-item teacher-created tests and focus group discussions. Frequency, percentage, means, and t-test was used to analyse quantitative data, while thematic analysis was applied for qualitative data. The t-test results show that PALP effectively improves learners' selected Life Science competencies. However, the participants also faced problems, including the difficulty of lessons, poor information retention, and a lack of formal sign language training among home learning facilitators. It is then recommended that schools may adopt and implement the PALP to help LSENs cope with the new learning delivery.

Abstract:
AbstractObjectives: In an earlier qualitative study we explored the attitudes of young men aged 15-19 (Group A) to mental health and, in particular, to engaging with the various mental health services available. We found that the participants perceived stigma in connection with mental ill health and they displayed particularly strong negative attitudes in relation to both doctors and medication. The investigation was then repeated with students who had been given a short (less than two-hour) programme called ‘Beat the Blues’ (BTB) about mental health (Group B) in order to assess the effect of that exposure by comparing the attitudes of the two groups of students. This present phase of the analysis is a quantitative examination of the written responses by both Groups A and B to an administered questionnaire. Methods: A total of 42 young men took part in eight focus groups held in boys-only Dublin secondary schools, described in Burke et al. A questionnaire, administered to each participant, examined the students' attitudes to depression and mental illness. The results were analysed by computer using SPSS to search for any trends and any contrasts between groups A and B and among the different socio-economic groups (SEGs) within the sample. Results: Almost no statistically significant differences were found between groups A and B. However, some differences were found among the SEGs. In particular, very significant differences (p < 0.01 in each case), were found in attitudes towards depression, with increasing support for statements such as “People with depression just need to snap out of it”, “Drinking alcohol can help cure depression” and “Depression is only an excuse for laziness” found among the lower SEGs. A very high percentage of students indicated their desire to talk to someone in times of personal stress; this was almost always their best friend or their mother. However, most students said they would be uncomfortable if a friend raised such a topic. Conclusion: The main conclusion – that a single exposure to a positive programme about depression produces little or no effect – is hardly unexpected. Nonetheless, there are indications of a great willingness among older secondary students to learn about and discuss mental health issues. Furthermore, the highly negative attitudes among students from the lowest socio-economic group in this study would seem to indicate that the greatest need for education about mental health lies with working-class adolescents. Hence, it is recommended that a programme of multiple interventions be introduced into the senior cycle of secondary education.

Abstract:
Participatory decision-making in schools has been identified as a key tool for improving teachers* professional development. However, not much has been done in terms of scientific research to find out the nature, level and areas of teacher participation in making school decisions. Therefore, this study sought to establish the areas and ways of involving Senior High School teachers in decision-making in schools in the Mampong Municipality. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The purposive and stratified sampling techniques were adopted to select the participants for the study. Questionnaires were used to collect data from 252 randomly selected professional teachers. It was observed from the study that teachers were always involved in curriculum and instructional activities and occasionally engaged in school operational activities and decisions that promoted school-community relationship. However, teachers were never involved in decision making on student admission and placement, staffing and financial matters. Teachers were involved in school decision-making through delegation, school meeting, school Board of Governors, and school committee systems. It is, therefore, recommended that the heads of schools should decentralise decision-making in their schools to allow greater teachers’ involvement in decision-making.

Abstract:
The issue in this study is the low student learning outcomes, particularly in the method of underpassing volleyball. According to the findings of the researchers' observations, the poor motivation of students when participating in learning has an effect on their below-average KKM completeness score. This study used classroom action research, which consists of two cycles with four stages of action: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. 32 students from only one class participated in this study. This study's data collection instrument consisted of teacher and student observation sheets as well as a grid-based assessment instrument for the movement process containing beginning attitude stages, implementation attitudes, and final attitudes. Using the playing approach, students' volleyball under-passing skills improve, with pre-cycle mastery only reaching 25%, cycle I increasing to 63%, and cycle 2 increasing to 78%. Thus, it can be stated that a Ketapang senior high school's volleyball under-passing talents can be enhanced by employing the playing approach.

Abstract:
In this research, the researchers used Responding, Correcting and Guiding (RCG) Strategy with Power Point (PPT) to solve the students’ problems in writing Report Text. The researchers designed the research problem as follows: How can RCG Strategy with PPT improve writing skill on report text for senior high school students? After applying RCG Strategy in cycle I, the students’ average score result in this cycle was 72.5%. This result was still not satisfying. 55.33% or 8 students could not reach the mean score target of 75. Therefore, the research should continue to the next cycle. In cycle II, the students’ average score was 82.33%. There were only 13.33% or 2 students who got bad scores, it meant that the criteria success had been met and this cycle should be discontinued. Based on the findings, the English teachers were recommended to use RCG for enhancing students’ writing skill by applying all the ways in this strategy, they were: Reacting to the Students’ Work, Correcting to the Students’ Work, Responding to the Students Work, Peer Review, Training Students to Self-Edit and Self-Correct and Making Homework Successful.
