Abstract:
Administrative effectiveness in secondary schools is germane to making education relevant to the growth of the society. The operational processes and functions in school administration depend on the good management of the documented activities of the school programs, infrastructures, staff and students found in school records for successful executions. Previous studies found that school records were basically created in paper formats which ran into many volumes with the problems of inadequate storage and in-effective preservation methods among others, although the studies did not use the records life cycle in the appraisal of the records management practices. These reported poor records management practices made the retrieval of school records difficult and sometimes impossible resulting in in-effective school administration. This paper examines the influence of records management practices on administrative effectiveness in public secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted for this study and the instrument for data collection was a questionnaire administered on a sample size of360 administrative team members in public senior secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. Data analysis was done using frequency counts and simple percentages to answer the research questions while regression analysis technique was employed to test he hypotheses. Research findings revealed that the schools have all the statutory and non- statutory records for proper and adequate administrative duties, the records management policy manual was available and the records management practices were based on the records life cycle in the public senior secondary schools in Lagos State. Additionally, the study found that the records creation stage was well managed while the maintenance and use stage were fairly managed and the disposition stage was poorly managed. Based on the findings, the study recommends the provision of equipment that would ensure that school records are properly stored, preserved and disposed to achieve best practices in records management for effective school administration.

Abstract:
One of the 21st century learning skills needed is communication skills. Communication skills have crucial roles to help students in facing global competitive and digital era nowadays. However, most of learnings at the middle and senior high schools ignore it but teachers still apply conventional learning methods to achieve it. Due to the problems, this study aims to build students' communication skills, and to find out the implementation of lesson study on students’ communication skills in learning English at senior high school through lesson study. It is a descriptive qualitative study conducted at Senior High School of 10 Kota Ternate. 100 students were selected through purposive sampling as the research samples. Data were collected by applying lesson study activities in 4 cycles through direct observation in learning process using communication skills instruments developed by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Communication skill indicators focus on 6 indicators. Data were analysed using a Likert scale of 5-1. Based on the result of analysis, the study showed that students’ communication skills are improved and developed gradually. In addition, lesson study has given a positive impact toward students ‘communication skills in learning English. It was proven that students’ communication skill develops significantly and linearly from cycle I (43.33) into cycle II (63, 33). Thus, the students’ communicative skills were improved as well from cycle III (76, 66) into cycle IV (93,33). Therefore, this study can be concluded lesson study activities in learning English are alternative solution to build students' communication skills, learning English through the implementation of lesson study has a positive impact on the development of communication skills, and students' communication skills through lesson study develop gradually and linearly and convey significant development.

Abstract:
The paper considers the experiment on practical approbation of the technique, accepted in foreign practice, of training of the students of high schools on a cycle adjusting lectures-independent work-consultations-testing with reference to study of a subject "Material Science". The experimental technique is tested on two grade levels: by the students of younger courses getting base knowledge, that is necessary for the students of all specialities, and at training the students of the senior courses for the special chapters of material science with reference to their future speciality. By results of experiment the conclusion is made that it is early to enter an experimental technique into practice of training of the students of younger courses, and for the students of the senior rates the foreign technique can serve as addition to a traditional technique of teaching.

Abstract:
Choosing a career can be hard when you have no idea what you want to do. However, there seems to be paucity of studies on career choices among senior high schools’ students in Ghana in general and Wa Municipality in particular. This study was intended to find out the career choices of students of Wa Senior High Technical School in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region of Ghana. A descriptive survey design was employed for the study. Data was collected from a sample of 80 students and 20 teachers using questionnaire. All respondents responded to the questionnaire. The data were presented in tables and charts and analysed using frequencies and percentages. The study found out that, the students needed career information, employment information, interpersonal needs, educational needs and self-understanding. The top career guidance needs of students as expressed by teachers and the school counsellor include educational information, study habits, interpersonal information, educational needs and career needs. The study also found that, the factors that influence students’ choice of career are extrinsic and interpersonal factors and they include perception of colleague/peer pressure, teachers’ influence, societal perceptions, availability of further training and occupational security. This helps students learn about and explore careers that ultimately lead to career choice. This played a critical role in shaping students career choice. It was recommended that Career Education and Guidance should be introduced in the primary school to enable children to explore the world of work as young people need to make a smooth transition from primary school to the initial years of Senior High School and the Ministry of Education should allocate fund for a Guidance and Counselling activities in all basic and second cycle schools. This will enable the guidance coordinators to function effectively at their various levels of work. Keywords: Career Choices, Challenges, Senior High Technical School, Students, Wa, Ghana.

The population was 728 senior high school teachers from the Nantou County, and using the cluster random sampling to select 348 teachers for the study. After providing informed consent, participants were asked to respond to background questionnaire, family life cycle questionnaire, leisure needs scale, leisure participation scale, and leisure satisfaction scale. All of collection data has been analyzed by using one-way multivariate analysis of variance, product-moment correlation analysis, and stepwise regression analysis. The results as follows: (1) The leisure needs was significant differences among the different family life cycle teachers. Post-hoc test revealed that the “marriage stage” and “above adolescent stage” had higher need of community learning and self-satisfied than “family with youth children stage” and “family with adolescent stage”. (2) The leisure participation was significant differences among the different family life cycle teachers. Post-hoc test revealed that the “marriage stage” had higher participation frequency of self- entertainment and popular ordinary activity than other family life cycle stage. The “above adolescent stage” had higher participation frequency of social involvement activity than “children couple stage”. The “family with adolescent stage” had higher participa- tion frequency of outdoor fitness activity than “children couple stage” and “family with youth children stage”. (3) The leisure satisfaction was significant differences among the different family life cycle teachers. Post-hoc test revealed that the “marriage stage” had higher satisfied with relaxation and peace of mind than “children couple stage” and “family with youth children stage”. (4) The significant correlation among leisure needs, leisure participa- tion and leisure satisfaction in different family life cycle teachers. The relationships among leisure needs, leisure participation and leisure satisfaction was positively in “pre-marriage stage”, “marriage stage”, “family with youth children stage”, “family with adolescent stage”, and “above adolescent stage”. But the relation- ships among leisure needs, leisure participation and leisure satisfaction was negatively in “children couple stage”. (5) The leisure needs and leisure participation could significantly predict leisure satisfaction for the senior high school teachers. Furthermore, the leisure needs predicted of leisure satisfaction was positive; the leisure participation predicted of leisure satisfaction was also positive. Mapotse, Tomé Awshar. "The teaching practice of senior phase technology education teachers in selected schools of Limpopo Province : an action research study." Thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/7717.

Full text
Abstract:
This is an Action Research (AR) study with the senior phase Technology teachers at selected schools of Limpopo Province. The study was motivated by the fact that Technology Education is a foreign concept to many teachers and a new learning area in school curriculum both nationally and internationally. This was exacerbated by the many educational changes that took place in South Africa in the last 18 years. These changes include the overhauling of curriculum, which was the strategic and symbolic change since the first democratic election of 1994, but followed by its review. Thus, a new curriculum known as Curriculum 2005 (reviewed twice already) was developed in which Technology was introduced as a new subject. These changes drastically affected Technology Education and teachers’ coping demands on both the subject content and pedagogy escalated. In this study, AR, a strategy for a systematic, objective investigation with Technology teachers’ who are un- and under- qualified to teach Technology was considered. The study aimed at establishing intervention strategies to empower and emancipate senior phase Technology teachers in Mankweng Circuit from the said challenges above. Thus, the study sought to address the question: How could action research intervention be used to improve the teaching of senior phase Technology teachers who are un- and/or under-qualified? The intervention strategies were implemented through the AR cycles in spiral activities of planning, implementation and observation, action and reflection, whose principles were operationalized to develop participants from the situations that they face in their Technology teaching contexts. The study was designed from both critical theory perspective and participatory paradigm. The following instruments were used as a means to gather data: observations, interviews, questionnaires, field notes, video recording of lesson plans and logs of meetings. The study managed to come up with guidelines to develop and kick start AR with teachers. From the ii findings an AR model was developed to emancipate the un- and under-qualified Technology teachers. Themes from the challenges and AR were used to draft a six weeks plan to empower incapacitated Technology teachers. This investigation was shaped by the initial reflection or preliminary study conducted with the participants called reconnaissance study which revealed specific challenges that Technology teachers encountered daily in their classes. These challenges were turned into the themes, which together with the findings from the preliminary study and interview reflection per cycle were used to design the intervention strategies for the next main cycle. The findings of the study from both the preliminary investigation (presented in Chapter Two) and main AR (presented in Chapter Five) reveal an improvement in the teachers’ understanding and implementation of Technology – they were emancipated to a greater extent from the challenges prior to the AR intervention and post the AR intervention. It is true that coming together as AR co-researchers was the beginning of Technology teaching practice problem identification; keeping together was progressive in Technology teaching; but working together remains our success in Technology teaching then, now and in the future – post doctoral studies.
