Abstract:
Since the second half of the 19th century, a new committee was created to prepare for the transformation of the spiritual and educational institutions. The new committee in the devel-opment of the charter took into account the suggestions of the special Committee for the prepara-tion of the «Draft charter of 1862». The new charter includes the definition of an educational institution and the evaluation of the education it provides: general, special. The disciplines and the number of hours, the coherence of subjects with theological lessons were determined. A problem-atic issue of the Tambov Seminary at that time was a large number of state-serving students and the constant growth of eparchial funds for the maintenance of the seminary, the decision of which was taken up by the newly created temporary committee for improving the life of the seminary. The year 1860 in the Tambov Seminary became transitional, from which gradual preparation began for changes in the teaching and educational processes of the seminary, including the search for additional funds for household needs, the introduction of new and the abolition of certain subjects, as well as the development of programs in those subjects that remained in a seminar course. The participation of the Seminary pedagogy corporation in the preparation of the new charter inspired teachers and contributed to the fact that already in the first half of the 1860s they aimed to update many aspects of the life of the Tambov Seminary.

Educating Teachers for Northern Norway – the Institutions in Trondheim 1717–1732

In this article I will give an account of the seminaries between 1717 and 1732 in the cathedral city of Trondheim, Norway. Key questions that the article seeks to answer are who initiated and supported these seminars, and also how they were organized and how staff and seminarians were recruited. Seminarium Scholasticum was initiated by the Danish Society for promoting Christian knowledge (Misjonskollegiet) in Copenhagen. The seminary was located at the Cathedral school in Trondheim and the seminarians were also students here. The purpose of Seminarium Scholasticum was to educate missionaries, catechists and teachers for the Sami population in the northern county of Finnmark. The seminary also served as a pre-school for the University of Copenhagen. Seminarium Domesticum was a private seminary instigated by Thomas von Westen and located in his home in Trondheim. His wealthy wife, Anna von Westen, assisted him and paid the expenses. The two institutions represented two different educational paths. Whilst the prior qualified for positions as missionaries, catechists and teachers, von Westen’s seminary qualified for post as assistants for catechists and teachers.

Abstract:
Abstract: This research is based on the thought of a saint, St. Benedict, contained in a rule made in the context of monastery, the Rule of St. Benedict. This rule has shaped the spiritual life of God's people for dozens of centuries. The strong emphasis on the balance of ora et labora, prayer and work, made this pattern relevant till date. This rule is also used as an approach to the forming of the patterns of spiritual formation in seminaries. Theological education is closely related to the growth of God's people. Thus, seminary as one model of theological education needs to have a good pattern related to the spiritual formation of everyone in it. The condition of seminaries in the present era with a tendency to show more attention to academic formation than to spiritual formation can cause imbalance in the life of seminarians. The Rule of St. Benedict can be a reference model so that seminaries can carry out a balanced theological education process to ensure that the academic quality exists as a part of the wholistic spiritual life. Keywords: ora et labora, seminary, spiritual formation, the Rule of St. Benedict. Abstract:
Taking into account the actual problems of time, the article presents materials related to the history of the architectural complex of the Greek Catholic theological seminary in Lviv. The research is based on the works of famous Ukrainian and Polish scholars, archival documents, maps of Lviv and graphic works of graphic artists of the nineteenth century which are stored primarily in the funds of the Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine named after V. Stefanyk. The plans of the side building of the Greek Catholic Seminary in Lviv is introduced in a scientific revolution with rooms for the economist, cook and services, which was prepared by a well-known in Galicia builder of the first half of the nineteenth century — Yuriy Glogovsky in 1826 and 1828. Today they is located in the Central State Historical Archives of Lviv city. The plans best reflects the part of the interior of a seminar house which today has very little information. Being the only known source of this kind, the documents is analyzed in details. The article separately gives the reason for their appearance. In addition, all the premises that underwent reorganization over a period of two years were examined in detail. This made it possible to show the needs of those for whom they were intended, the general direction and nature of the work of the Construction Directorate. It was emphasized that the legacy of Y. Glogovsky is a powerful base for studying the architecture of Lviv in the first half of the nineteenth century, her history. Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract: The foundation of the Bitola Seminary was to a great extent possible due to efforts of Bishop Josif Cvijović (1878–1957), so its fate was tied to him. The idea to open a seminary arose shortly after his enthronement, in the summer of 1921. The seminary was built in very difficult conditions because Bitola, as a border town on the outskirts of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, was largely destroyed and devastated. On the other hand, there was a lack of material resources because opening this new school was not foreseen in the state budget. Bishop Josif, in his efforts to open a seminary, was extremely supported by the then Bishop Nicholai of Ohrid. Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich (1881–1956) has supported the Bitola Theological Seminary since the efforts to establish this seminary in 1921. In order to enable the opening of the Bitola Theological Seminary, the collecting of contributions in money and things for the basic needs of the school and boarding school has begun in 1921. The American Commission to Serbia (Commissioner Dr. Rudolph Rex Reeder (1859–1934)) was the first to send abundant aid, thanks to Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich who interceded with the scientist Mihajlo Pupin (1854–1935) on this issue. As the diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Ohrid and Bitola, Bishop Nicholai took special care of the Seminary of St. John the Theologian in Bitola in the period from 1932 until 1938, when he moved to the Diocese of Žiča. Key words: Bitola Theological Seminary, Diocese of Ohrid and Bitola, Bishop Nicholai Velimirovich (1881–1956), Bishop Josif Cvijović (1878–1957), Bishop John [Maximovitch] of Shanghai (1896–1966).

Abstract:
The article investigates the historical ties of Subcarpathian Rus with one of the theological institutions in the Balkans - the St. John the Theologian seminary in Bitola. The deficient educational level of the Orthodox clergy in the early 1920s is characterized. The network of Orthodox seminaries in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes during this period is shown. Based on the documents of Serbian and Ukrainian archives, the stages of attracting students from Subcarpathian Rus to study in the Kingdom's secondary and higher spiritual and theological institutions are clarified. The role of the bishops-delegates of the Serbian Orthodox Church, who served the most for the departure of entrants to study in Macedonia, is assessed. For the first time in historiography, the names of the Transcarpathians who graduated from the seminary and were ordained as priests were established. The article also mentions other seminarians who were expelled for failure or transferred to other educational institutions. The article describes the seminary's curriculum, extracurricular activities, incentives system, and students' leisure time. The annual reports of the seminary also provide an opportunity to trace the way of reforming the educational institution's curriculum, increasing and decreasing the number of hours in certain subjects. The author concludes that Bitola Theological Seminary trained about 30 priests for Subcarpathian Rus and was among the most popular and respected in the region. The Orthodox clergy who graduated from the studios in Macedonia were highly educated and able to unite the faithful in the parishes. On this basis, the diocesan hierarchs entrusted the "Bitolians" with large parishes or problematic parishes where it was necessary to normalize the situation. The conclusions outline the prospects for further research.

Abstract:
The Seminary influence on the governorate social life development was an integral part of social processes in the period of 1867-1884, which formed the prototype of the modern education practice. Identification of the Seminary role in the Tambov Governorate social life of the 19th century is a research component of this study, which affects the knowledge of the spiritual and moral education of society current state. Manuscript drafting source was the archival data of Tambov eparchy clergy activities of the late 19th century, the periodical press data of the same period. We interpret the obtained sources in the logic of the general civilized approach to the study of Seminary as an institution of social life characterized by regional aspects. Studies of the role of Seminary in social life have shown the sequence of its formation and development, its further socialization in the social life of the governorate. Special importance is attached to the Tambov Seminary in the years of transformations. Spiritual and moral influence of the Seminary on contemporaries, its increasingly active participation in the public life of the city, the change of its moral appearance contributed to the increase in the authority (role) of the Seminary in the social life of the Tambov Governorate.

Abstract:
Abstract It is widely granted that in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Princeton Theological Seminary had come to be recognized as an international bastion of evangelical and Reformed orthodoxy. Students, drawn to Princeton from across the USA and many points across the globe, returned home to teach and preach the Christian faith as Princeton had relayed it to them. Since the denominationally-mandated reorganization of this seminary in 1929, conservative evangelicals have circulated a narrative describing the seminary as undergoing a ‘death’ in that year. This essay seeks to show both that the theological reorientation of this seminary was much more gradual than this now-customary narrative would allow, and that the graduates of this seminary from both before and after 1929 went on exercising a wide national and international evangelical leadership for decades beyond the reorganization.

Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to highlight some aspects of the development of the Katerynoslav Theological Seminary in the context of its achievements and problems in the early 20th century. Research methods: descriptive and retrospective. Their use made it possible to recreate the vast majority of historical plots relaing to the activities of the Katerynoslav Theological Seminary during the specified period. Main results. The historical conditions and features of the activity of the Katerynoslav Seminary at the beginning of the 20th century are analyzed. The role of diocesan bishops and rectors in the development of the educational institution is investigated. It is noted that the seminary achieved significant achievements thanks to the efforts of the first rector, later Katerynoslav Archbishop Agapit (Vishnevsky), in the 20th century. The set of documents used in the work makes it possible to reconstruct the position of the seminary during 1906–1914, during the rectorship of Archpriest Andrei (Odintsov). It is stated that the educational process in the theological seminary at that time was under the control of Katerynoslav Bishop Simeon (Pokrovsky). The main achievements and problems that arose during this period are analyzed. The leadership of the seminary failed to protect the institution from the penetration of revolutionary sentiments that arose in society. The author shows the formation of free thought among students, which led to their violation of discipline and the charter of the seminary. In 1910 the activities of a secret group of 16 seminarians were revealed. Their purpose was to create a general seminary union and spread national revolutionary ideas. Punishments of violators of discipline and the fight against manifestations of free-thinking did not save the educational institution from further historical realities. It is established that during the rectorship of Joseph Krechetovich (1915–1918) the Seminary had all the opportunities for its further development. Confirmation is the growth in the number of students by 1917 and the high level of its financial support. Thus, the Katerynoslav Theological Seminary for 18 years of its activity in the 20th century passed an active phase from the rise of its development to the closure of the educational institution. The active position of Katerynoslav hierarchs, rectors and teachers contributed to the scientific and educational development of the seminary, which rightly occupied an important place among other theological educational institutions in Ukraine. However, the historical events taking place in this period could not but affect the life of the teaching staff and seminarians. The closure of the seminary was the result of revolutionary transformations in the country. Practical significance. The main provisions of the article can become the basis for further scientific research. They are recommended for those who are interested in this problem. Originality is due to an unbiased approach when considering the used scientific works of researchers and archival sources. Scientific novelty. For the first time, a comprehensive study of the peculiarities of the development of the Katerynoslav Theological Seminary through the prism of the activities of its rectors in the context of historical events of the early 20th century is proposed. Type of article: theoretical.

Seminary is a place for Christian religious education to form and educate prospective Christian clergy. The seminary is equipped with various educational support facilities, because it is a special education that focuses on theological/religious education. Seminary facilities in the Pontianak City area are currently considered to be less than optimal, both in terms of quantity/quantity, and quality of facilities. The purpose of this design is to produce the design of educational facilities and religious tourism that is able to accommodate the needs of users and visitors in the form of facilities and infrastructure. The design object focuses on the Bukit Doa Psalm 21 area, Anjongan, Mempawah. The method used in this design is observation, comparison, and analysis. The author will conduct field observations at seminaries and retreat houses in Pontianak, as well as interviews with related parties. The design focus is on identifying seminary facilities and the need for infrastructure. The theme that will be focused on this design is contextual architecture which focuses on linking new buildings with the environment. References to contextual architecture and similar buildings are taken from various sources. The collected case studies will later become a design guide, ideas and solutions to design problems. The seminary design concept is in the form of a spatial program schematic and site analysis which results in the identification of the required facilities and a schematic design of the seminary area and building. The final result of the design of the West Kalimantan Psalm 21 High Seminary is the the seminary area and building that has complete infrastructure that is able to accommodate educational activities and religious tourism, but also has a connection with the surrounding environment.

Seminarians inside the Seminary experienced many difficulties. One of them is the experience of loneliness. The present research examined the ways of enduring the loneliness inside the Seminary. The purpose of this study is to help improve the commitment in the priesthood. The researchers used a qualitative transcendental phenomenological approach in exploring the experiences of nine college seminarians. Phenomenological is an approach to qualitative research that describes the meaning of several individuals' lived experiences, which in this research talks about the seminarians' loneliness inside the Seminary. The forms of loneliness experienced by the seminarians are classified into three themes: 1) Seminary-Related Loneliness; 2) Living away from the family, and 3) Being alone. The seminarians deal with their experienced loneliness through Social Interaction, Prayer, and making the Self Busy. The results reveal that loneliness inside, although inevitable, can be prevented through prevention measures. Future researchers may conduct a further study on how to improve the seminarians' lives inside the Seminary to help the seminarians be more committed to the priesthood.

Abstract:
The language of the liturgy will always be a little different from the language of common speech, however carefully the drafters of ritual aim to make it understood by the people. It has in it a strand of poetry, and the nature of reverence carries inside itself a healthy dislike of bathos. Therefore: if ministers of a liturgy are expected to preach to the people, they will need instruction in how best to teach or to speak, not to mention education so that they have something to say and are not windbags. But even if a minister of a liturgy is not expected to preach, but is only there as voice to go through the set text, it will be done better if he does it with understanding; and therefore the minister will need the education to understand what is read, which in the western centuries where all this started would be in Latin. The minister also needs instruction on how not to drop the baby at baptism, and how to behave with a coffin, and what to do to a dying person. It is therefore expected that this will be an educated person, even if for much of the Middle Ages the sort of education for many ministers would be that which we should think specially appropriate to a sacristan rather than to a professional preacher. And since some such qualification was essential to do the job, bishops hardly liked to ordain persons who could not pass some sort of an educational test.

Abstract:
The main claim of the present article is that a Shia theological seminary, contrary to the common depiction presented, is a multivocal institution. The tradition of multivocality does not appertain only to ʿulamāʾ. Young clergy and seminaries also have very different ideas concerning religious thought. Evidence of this can be found in the present article in the form of examples of the dramatic discrepancy between ʿulamāʾ in essential theological beliefs, political theology, juridical methodology, issuing fatwas, and historical events relating to Shia identity. Moreover, the multivocality of young seminary students was empirically tested in Howzah ʿlmiyyah of Qom in Iran. The findings of this survey demonstrate the existence of four distinct schools of religious thought in the Shia seminary. At the end of the article, the educational, political and technological factors which have led to the formation of different intellectual trends within the contemporary Shia clergy institution are discussed.

Shortly before this, the Seminary rector, archimandrite Kirill (Lopatin) submitted the report to the Kazan archbishop Arseny (Bryantsev) in which he described difficult sanitary and hygienic situation of seminary and that it negatively affects the educational process. The document reveals a heavy student life: extreme overcrowding, lack of rooms, high humidity and lack of fresh air. As a special problem, absence of own bath was mentioned, forcing students to visit city baths, that led to increase of number of contagious diseases cases. The petition of the seminary students, handed over to the Kazan archbishop, confirmed that radical moods of pupils were motivated by worsening sanitary conditions in educational institution. However, despite recommendations of the bishop to the Seminary Board to find a solution of the problems rising, no efforts were made due to different reasons. The commission appointed for investigation of incidents, consisted of teachers, but didn’t include a medical worker, that indirectly indicates authorities’ formalistic approach to the problem. On the other hand, the considerable fault in sanitary and hygienic situation deterioration in Seminary lays on students, who by the end of the XIX century were not yet aware of simple sanitary rules importance.

Abstract:
After Poland regained its independence in 1918, the Polish Roman Catholic Church needed to be reunited, so that thoroughly educated priests could be deployed to work in the newly established dioceses. The system of teaching had to be reorganized and this issue was finally regulated by the 1925 Concordat which guaranteed the possibility of creating a seminary in each diocese. A special situation took place in Krakow, where in the 1920s, in addition to the existing diocesan seminary, the Częstochowa Seminary and the Silesian Seminary were located. The article outlines the circumstances in which the seats of these institutions were established outside home dioceses and draws attention to the cultural context of the events of that time, whose material reflection remains as the two modernist buildings preserved in the center of Krakow.

Abstract:
The study, based on archival sources and scientific publications, identifies a number of issues related to the history of the formation of women's educational institutions in Galicia in the early twentieth century. Coverage of the peculiarities of the formation and development of women's seminaries for teacher training in Ukraine as a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is considered on the example of the State Women's Teachers' Seminary in Berezhany. It has been found that the introduction of new educational institutions – men's and women's teachers' seminaries had been based on the Austrian state school law of 1869, which introduced significant changes in the process of teacher training. From the results of the article it has been identified that women's educational institutions had been created in the Austro-Hungarian Empire to provide public (primary) schools with teachers and aimed at professional self-realization of women. The research focuses on the women's teacher's seminary in Berezhany which was opened in 1910/1911. The article analyzes archival documents from the collection of the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in L’viv, in particular the materials of the fund № 179 "Curator of the L’viv School District", case 1111 "Case of transfer of premises in Senyavsky Castle in Berezhany by the local city community for a women's seminary". Based on the documents of the case on the transfer of the Senyavsky Castle in Berezhany by the local city community for the women's seminary, the content of the official correspondence of state and local authorities regarding the location and financing of the women's teacher's seminary in Berezhany during 1913-1926 has been revealed. It has been found that before the war, the magistrate of Berezhany had handed over a house and 1 ½ of morgue - land in the center to the needs of the seminary, but the construction of the seminary building had not been started due to the war. On March 5, 1915, the Ministry of Religion and Education in Vienna granted the Berezhany community an annual subvention of 6,000 kroons as donations to a house on a needs of a teachers' seminary. The war made it impossible to further pay that subvention in the school years from 1914/1915 to 1918/1919. Therefore, the school regional council, expressing a request to the magistrate of Berezhany, appealed to the Ministry of the Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth to support the commitment of the Ministry of Finance regarding the annual subvention payment for 1919 and 1920. The Polish government refused any legal obligations to the Berezhany community to pay debts. subventions for the years 1914-1919 instead of the Austrian government. In the case of the seminary in Berezhany, the curator of the Lviv school district, in a letter dated January 4, 1923, proposed to accept the gift of the castle in Berezhany proposed by Mr. Yakub Potocki for the use of the teacher's seminary, which was rejected by the Ministry of Education of the Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, based on a careful analysis of the condition of the monument. As a result of an agreement with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Religion and Education decided to distribute the community of Berezhany the amount of 20,000 Polish marks for the needs of the teachers' seminary. The article reveals that the historical experience of the formation and development of women’s education in Galicia on the example of the Berezhany Teachers’ Seminary as an important asset of Ukrainian science and education.
