Full textThis dissertation utilizes Merleau-Ponty’s theory of the Flesh and Jung’s theory of self-realization as a way to integrate the gained understanding into the current approach of psychotherapy as an altered attitude for the treatment of the psyche. The theories of Flesh and self-realization are used to approach a fundamental drive that leads to pathologies and wider consciousness (Merleau-Ponty, 2012; Jung, 1928/1977). This allows for the treatment of the psyche in consideration of this natural drive that enables the client’s transformation toward wholeness through the individuation process (Jung, 1959/1969, 1928/1977, 1951/1978). The Flesh is described by Merleau-Ponty as an elemental general manner of “being” (Merleau-Ponty, 1968), while self-realization is described by Jung as wholeness. This philosophic hermeneutic research recognizes the importance of gaining greater understanding of the phenomenon of self-realization. Merleau-Ponty and Jung understood the significance that opposites and their relationship with one another play in this developmental process, that is, reversibility and tension of opposites (Merleau-Ponty, 2012; Jung, 1928/1977). Jung’s depth psychological and Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenological understanding of the symbol’s capacity synthesize the opposites, thereby widening consciousness ultimately to self-realization are presented.

Full textMy understanding of faith is that it must be living faith, like living tissue, and this is true in the obvious sense that it is a life lived. Starting from the view that no individual's existence is self-justifying, what is presented is an existential analysis of our actual encounters with faith, brought to show up through the individual's active struggle in responding to the call of her own question-begging existence. This is the process of the making of the identity I have called transcendental faith.

Full textIn the blooming era of the Internet of Things (IoT), trust has become a vital factor for provisioning reliable smart services without human intervention by reducing risk in autonomous decision making. However, the merging of physical objects, cyber components and humans in the IoT infrastructure has introduced new concerns for the evaluation of trust. Consequently, a large number of trust-related challenges have been unsolved yet due to the ambiguity of the concept of trust and the variety of divergent trust indicators, models and management mechanisms in different IoT scenarios. In this PhD thesis, my ultimate goal is to propose an efficient and practical trust evaluation for any IoT ecosystems. To achieve this goal, the first important objective is to augment the generic trust concept and conceptual model of trust in order to come up with a comprehensive understanding of trust, influencing factor and relevant Trust Indicators (TI) in the context of IoT. Following the catalyst, as the second objective, a trust model called REK comprised of the triad Reputation, Experience and Knowledge TIs is proposed which covers multi-dimensional aspects of trust by incorporating heterogeneous information from direct observation, personal experiences to global opinions. Knowledge TI is as “direct trust” rendering a trustor’s understanding of a trustee in respective scenarios that can be obtained based on limited available information about characteristics of the trustee, environment and the trustor’s perspective using a variety of techniques. Experience and Reputation TIs are originated from social features and extracted based on previous interactions among entities in IoT. The mathematical models and calculation mechanisms for the Experience and Reputation TIs also proposed leveraging sociological behaviours of humans in the real-world; and being inspired by the Google PageRank in the web-ranking area, respectively. Things are expected to live in different “domains” and “contexts” during their lifetime. Information generated/associated with Things should be manageable by multiple, diverse stakeholders with different roles, information and functionalities with many access levels, ecosystems with different trust level and security primitives. In that sense, as third objective of this thesis, a novel blockchain-enhanced IoT data-sharing framework named Semantic Smart Contract (SSC) is proposed taking full advantage of the provisions offered by the blockchain and semantics. The feasibility and effectiveness of the REK model, based on the proposed trust indicator, and associated Trust sharing mechanisms are proved not only by the theoretical analysis but also by real-world applications deployed in our Wise-IoT and SMESEC EU projects

Full textThe study is based on the personalistic point of view and the evaluation of a person. The theme of self-developing, conscious actualisation of man’s value without loss of human nature is a matter of great relevance of modern-day problems, such as lack of opportunity and ability to live humanly, loneliness, every kind of national, cultural conflict, war etc. In this work the essence and features of a person’s value, and the sense of the process of this consciousness and actualisation are analysed. In this study God’s presence is not denied, but the religious question is not touched. To reach the aim, the work starts with the foundation of the theme on philosophical arguments. E. S. Brightman’s, M. Buber’s, E. Mounier’s, J. Lacroix’s explanations of the person are investigated and a thesis is formulated: The value of person is his self - creation based on human nature, pursued consciously, in relationship with others and always oriented towards the person. Secondly, the evaluation of psychological humanistic approach to the person was analysed. Emphasis was placed upon the individual continuous effort of attention to a person, moral relationship, connection of understanding, memory, fantasy with a man’s value, exact action and at the same time unlimited love and maturity. Self- esteem is grounded on objective evaluation of person and his actualisation together with others. The third part is dedicated to discussion about social issues (political... [to full text]

Nowadays it is not enough for them to take care of the house and children, to study at universities, to run their own business. Women take part in different political or social organizations, associations and clubs. What are their expectations? Having so little free time, they waste it on improving our imperfect world. And they have been doing it for more than two hundred years, since one of the earliest and most influential of women's clubs Sorosis was founded in New York City in 1868. As there were no studies in women's club movement in Lithuania, this paper aims to find out what are the expectations of women self-realization and self-actualization, and how they could be fulfilled participating in club activity.

The present work intends to investigate the foundations for Axel Honneth’s Recognition Theory. In order to reach our goal, the text is divided into two central parts. Firstly, we analytically present Hegel’s Jena Lectures, aiming to approach the origins of the concept “recognition” and its theoretical involvement in the honnethian development of a “fight for recognition”. Secondly, we present and analyze the honnethian arguments for an update of Hegelian concepts which have enabled a normative ethics reconstitution. Honneth’s comprehension of recognition experience allows us to revise the model for the occurrence of intersubjective relations of self-realization. Herein, we evince these relations according to three spheres of recognition, namely, Love, Rights and Solidarity and their forms of self-realization.

"Reflecting self : an exploration of drawing trace as reciprocity between self and life-world, with reference to my own drawing and selected works of Diane Victor." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/96943.
Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: The study postulates that drawing functions as a valuable vehicle that facilitates reciprocity between the drafter and her life-world. This relationship of exchange can bring about transformation of the self. The study is a qualitative study that aims to establish an understanding of how drawing functions as a vehicle facilitating reciprocity between the drafter and her life-world. In order to effectively research the transformative potential of reciprocity between artist, drawing, and life-world, theoretically and practically, the study is divided into two main parts. Firstly, it constitutes a theoretical section, which forms the foundation for further exploration in the second part of the study. Secondly, the study focuses on the practical manifestation of the theories as manifest in my drawings and in selected drawings of Diane Victor, whose work primarily functions as ‘a third person perspective’ in relation to my own work. The study is rooted in a psycho-analytical framework, focusing on Self psychology and Intersubjective Psychoanalysis of personality psychologists such as Jung, Miller, Goldberg and McAdams, amongst others, as well as the writings of philosophers, art historians and drawing theorists such as Jacques Derrida, Catherine de Zegher, and Suzi Gablik. Valuable links are forged between the transformative potential of drawing, the psychological and the spiritual. Parallels are drawn between notions derived from self-psychology and theology, based on the premise that human beings constitute body (physical aspect), soul (mind and emotion) and spirit, three components that are hardly divisible and that work together in drawing, effecting the transformation of the self. I argue that a failure to acknowledge the significance of the interactivity between these facets limits and inhibits the transformative potential of the drawing process. Through interactivity between the self and her life-world through drawing, moments of ‘recognition’ and ‘knowing’ occur - concerning hidden ‘truths’ of the self, which could affect personal transformation. In this study, life-world comprises inner and outer world, a visible and invisible world. The visible world focuses on the interaction of the self with nature and culture, and the invisible world focuses on the interaction of the self with a psychic world, which includes the workings of the conscious and unconscious mind in drawing and their connection with a spiritual dimension. The spiritual aspect in drawing is researched through the notions of transformative “presence” and the “transcendent function” of drawing. The study explores the psychological and spiritual value of drawings as transformative selfobjects to address the general neglect of the spiritual. I affirm that there exists a mutually conducive potential and influence that the interplay between the spiritual and the psychological in the drawing process bring about. As a “selfobject”, a drawing attains its own ‘silent visual language’ replacing or assisting the role of the therapist, becoming pivotal in a transformative ‘interpersonal dialogue’. Lastly, Jung (Miller, 2004:4) claims that the unification of the conscious and unconscious eventually results in “a living birth that leads to a new level of being, a new situation” (Miller, 2004:4).

This activity can be various. Prforming activity is very important to children in the music school which helps them to improve, gives opportunities for self-exprssion, to know better the music language and it is one of musical culture training factor. Unfortunately, not all the children has a possibility of self-axpression in the performing activity because usually more gifted pupils are prepared to take part in concerts suitable for their age and inducing to take part in them as well. It is necessary to organize the learning process through the activity involving to it not only very gifted pupils, but less gifted to music pupils as well, and to induce them to attend concerts more often. It is very urgent pedagogical problem. The research aim is to investigate the influence of performing activity to musical culture training of primary class pupils in music school. The research objekt is performing activity of primary class pupils in music school.
The background of this study emanates from individuals’ change in relation to their social context, such as leisure time activities, family, and friends, which they participate in and take part off. This study takes it starting point in examining the possible influence of advanced studies in higher education on personal development. The aim is to investigate whether there is any relation, on basis of the student’s motivation for higher studies, between higher education and the way to self-realization. The empirical data consists of interviews with students, from different faculties at the University of Karlstad, who has at least 2 years (80 credit points) of university training off which 60 points concern of specific scientific subject. The interview questions address the relationship between the student and their family and friends. Personal development has been assessed in relation to Charles Taylor’s self-realization theory. The analysis shows that the influence of higher education on self-realization varies. Most respondents in the survey group experienced personal growth during their study time although their studies, in some cases did not seem to have had any effect. Some respondents did not experience personal growth at all.

Full textuses of nature and the way these writers treat nature. This critical overview eventually affirmed that the relationship between the individual and nature is central to these writers&rsquo
uses of nature. Being modernist writers, D.H. Lawrence and Virginia Woolf are both interested in the psychology of individuals. Although they differ in their ways of depiction, they employ natural imagery to depict the psychology of the individuals, which can be defined as their Romantic sensibility toward nature. In both writers, though nature is more central to Lawrence&rsquo
s works than to those of Woolf&rsquo
s, nature is of great importance in the creation and representation of characters. Through their contact with nature, their characters experience self-realization as they reveal their hidden selves and as they find ties between their selves and nature. More specifically, this study tries to examine how Lawrence and Woolf depict nature in order to reveal the psychology of characters in relation to their experiencing self-realization in Lawrence&rsquo
s Women in Love (1920) and The Plumed Serpent (1926) and Woolf&rsquo
s The Voyage Out (1915) and Orlando: A Biography (1928).
