Abstract:
Abstract This study investigated relationships between self-compassion, self-efficacy, and self-esteem, as well as age and sex differences and other sociodemographic variables in relation to self-compassion. Four-hundred and thirty-two Brazilian adults (50% women) from nearly all country states participated in the study filling out a sociodemographic survey and three scales: self-compassion, self-efficacy, and self-esteem. Comparisons of means between self-compassion and pairs of groups designed by sociodemographic data showed higher self-compassion in men, people aged from 31 to 66 years-old, not under psychiatric medication, without a job, and with children. Results also showed that self-compassion is highly correlated with self-esteem and self-efficacy. We highlight that results are sample dependent and further studies on self-compassion need to be conducted in Brazil.

Abstract:
Abstract. This project examined the proposal that self-concepts integrate aspects of self-knowledge in relation to activities. The proposed integrated model was applied to self-concepts about current and future performance, natural talent, effort, and task difficulty of reading, number, and drawing. The participants were 5- to 12-year-old children in Study 1 (N = 241) and Study 2 (N = 225). Responses were unbiased by order effects and socioeconomic indicators. Study 1 showed that the integrated model was a good fit to the responses. Alternative models about the person and about activities did not fit the responses well. The few effects of age and gender self-stereotyping were on particular aspects and not across all aspects of activities. Study 2 replicated the findings. Results supported the integrated model of children's self-concepts that provides a sound basis for brief, meaningful, and useful self-concept inventories for children. The model is readily extended to other activities, with applications to education and clinical settings.

Abstract:
A sandpile model on the square lattice with periodic boundary conditions is studied as a problem of variable density of grains per site. We define an order parameter and we show the existence of a critical density. This model is the closed version of the deterministic BTW model and belongs to the "Fixed Energy Sandpiles" class. An algorithm identifying the periodic states of the system permits us to have a good estimation of the order parameter, which is free from transient effects. The universality of the model with respect to two different forms of oriented flows is studied and compared with that of the isotropic flow. We find two universality classes characterized by different critical exponents. The Manhattan flow appears to belong to the same universality class as the isotropic flow. However, the directed flow gives a completely different critical behavior. The complexity of the model for densities larger than the critical is also studied. It is observed that, both the Manhattan model and the isotropic model have an interesting structure characterized by several plateaus. The right edges of these plateaus are characterized by a sudden increase of the order parameter, giving rise to new critical points. The directed flow model has a simple structure without plateaus.

Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to compare self-reported handedness with the directly tested hand preference using a 10-item battery in sample of 1223 students. The question assessing self-reported handedness was whether you are a left- or a right-hander or you use both hands equally. Responses indicate that self-reported handedness is a crude but possible method of measurement. Female right-handers showed the best agreement.

Abstract:
In the article we propose new decision support tools for region energetics development. The method is based on analysing complex system’s state and comparing it with the self-organized criticality (SOC) class that characterize the long-term system’s stability. We start with urban system modelling using cellular automata (CA) with the best fit to real data and then we raise hypothesis about adequacy of urban and energetics system elements distribution. The urban data analysis shows that it is in SOC state for wide rank of countries. We calculate required parameters for energetics system, which are used in decision making for the system long-term development.

Abstract:
This paper revolves around two main results. First, we propose a "hom-set" type categorification of virtual braid groups and positive virtual braid monoids in terms of "locally" braided objects in a symmetric category (SC). This "double braiding" approach provides a rich source of representations, and offers a natural categorical interpretation for virtual racks and for the twisted Burau representation. Second, we define self-distributive (SD) structures in an arbitrary SC. SD structures are shown to produce braided objects in a SC. As for examples, we interpret the associativity and the Jacobi identity in a SC as generalized self-distributivity, thus endowing associative and Leibniz algebras with a (pre-)braiding. A homology theory of categorical SD structures is developed using the "braided" techniques from [Lebed, Homologies of algebraic structures via braidings and quantum shuffles, to appear in J. Algebra], generalizing rack, bar, Leibniz and other familiar complexes.

Abstract:
Objective: To review the literature on self-induced epileptic seizures and apply psychiatric knowledge to define possible causes and treatment recommendations. Methods: A review of MEDLINE literature on self-induced epileptic seizures was conducted, followed by cross-referencing with the relevant neurologic, psychiatric and paediatric books and journals. Results: The reported prevalence of self-induction varies depending on the setting. In most instances, self-inducers are people affected by photosensitive primary generalized epilepsy, in whom self-induction is by intermittent photic stimulation or, more rarely, pattern stimulation or eye closure. Self-induced seizures are most commonly absences with spike-wave, though eyelid myoclonia and generalized myoclonic jerks occur. Earlier studies indicate that the majority of self-inducers were of subnormal intelligence but more recent ones indicate that as a group they could not be considered mentally retarded. Monitoring in a well-lit environment is indicated in any therapy-resistant photosensitive patient to determine whether or not selfinduction occurs. Self-induced epilepsy is notoriously resistant to therapy and reasons for this resistance are discussed. An explanatory model for the initiation and maintenance of selfinduction behaviour is also included. Conclusions: It is difficult to determine from published papers just what level of clinical difficulty self-induction of seizures actually posed to the patients and clinicians. In some cases there is contradictory evidence as to the degree of willfulness or self-induction. Self-induced epileptic seizures may be an important aspect of poor seizure control in a subgroup of epilepsy sufferers. These seizures might be modifiable by psychiatric intervention or behavioural modification.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the results of five studies carried out in the Novosibirsk region for the purpose of research of the possibilities of the switch to self-employment of unoccupied population that apply to employment service regarding provision of employment. The paper studies the dynamics of the main social indicators favoring the choice of self-employment and varying under the influence of this choice: hope and trust in the state regarding provision of employment status, periodicity in loss of work, recession of income level and capability of providing oneself and family; influence of the reference groups on the choice of self-employment (their success); assessment of labor as social value; social feeling of unoccupied people and family support. Several trends were revealed: faith in the state as the guarantor of full employment provision weakened significantly; civil activity regarding securing self-sufficiency increased; the share of the people who lost work for the first time is reducing and the number of unemployed who lost work two or more times is increasing; the number of the people who have to save on the most needed and who are not in difficulties for money is decreasing; the number of the people who feel pity for unemployed people regarding their unemployment is decreasing and the number of indifferent people is increasing; family support grows. A conclusion was drawn regarding the possibility of employment of unemployed people via the development of self-employment, necessity of provision of assistance and support to them on the part of the state; it will allow people to overcome a welfare mentality and discover their own business development strategy.
