Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Aim:Intraoperative allogeneic blood product transfusion (ABPT) in cardiac surgery is associated with worse overall outcome, including mortality. The objective of this study was to evaluate the ABPTs in minimalized extracorporeal cardiopulmonary (MECCTM) compared with standard open system on-pump coronary revascularization. Methods:Data of 156 patients undergoing myocardial revascularization between September 2008 and September 2010 were reviewed. 83 patients were operated by the MECC technique and 73 were treated by standard extracorporeal circulation (sECC). ABPT and overall early postoperative complications were analyzed. Results:Operative mortality and morbidity were similar in both groups. ABPT in the MECC group was significantly lower than in the sECC group both intraoperatively (7.2vs.60.3% of patients p<0.001) and during the first five postoperative days (19.3vs.57.5%; p<0.001). “Skin to skin”- (214 ± 45vs.232 ± 45 min; p=0.012), cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) - (82 ± 25vs.95 ± 26 min; p=0.014), and X-clamp- times (50 ± 16vs.56 ± 17 min; p=0.024) were significantly lower in the MECC group than in the sECC group. Length of ICU (intensive care unit) - and hospital stay were also significantly lower in the MECC groupvs.the sECC group (26.7 ± 20.2vs.54.5 ± 68.9 h; p<0.001, and 12.0 ± 4.1vs.14.5 ± 4.6 days; p<0.001).Conclusion:Application of MECC as on-pump coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) results in significantly lower ABPT as well as shorter ICU and in-hospital stay. In order to achieve these benefits of MECC autologous retrograde priming, Bispectral index (BIS) monitoring, intraoperative cell salvage, meticulous hemostasis and strict peri- and postoperative volume management are crucial.

Abstract:
Antecedentes y Objetivos: Cosmos secc.

Abstract:
The present work is a study on the status attributed to youth by the french medieval literature of the centuries XI-XIII. The literary images connected to this age of life both in the Old-french texts and in the Provençal ones are, in fact, referable to the archetype of warrior youth and to its renovated use in feudal times. After an introduction dedicat-ed to the reconstruction of the historical-critical debate on the issue, my thesis is divided into three chapters: the first one is based on the study of the vocabulary concerning young people; in the second chapter I examined the most interesting literary works in which the relationship between the young and the warrior take place; the third chapter is dedicated to the relationship between youthful narrative and narrative structures. In con-clusion, I try to interpret the phenomenon of the feudal restoration of the warrior youth myths as a whole.

Baró, i. Cabrera Robert. "Escrivans a Vallès. Segles X i XI." Doctoral thesis, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/669440.

Abstract:
During the 10th and 11th centuries, the Vallès region was the hinterland of the County of Barcelona: it was under the control of its sovereigns, but far enough from the capital to develop autonomous dynamics. A large quantity of original medieval documentation from this territory has been preserved in the rich archives of its ecclesiastic and civilian institutions. As a result, it is the ideal place to identify certain people, the scribes - those who authenticated documents with their signature in order to make them public. The present study is divided into three sections. The first focusses on the description of documentary sources and the methodology used to obtain and process the information. In the second, the scribes are identified, presenting an inventory and study of each of them, as well as a prosopography of about forty of them. The third section focusses on the topography linked to these scribes, showing the information sources and tools used for the analysis, as well as cartographic results and files of the topographic units that allow us to sense how the scribes were connected with the territory. Evidence shows that during the 10th and 11th centuries the great majority of the scribes were secular clerics, and the ecclesiastic career of some of them can be followed through the sources. During the 10th century, regular clergy are practically absent, while they appear signing a small proportion of documents in the 11th century. Inversely, during the 10th century there is a significant contingent of secular scribes, which reduced considerably during the 11th century. It can be concluded that the scribes authenticated the documents in performative acts, not merely assertive ones, by virtue of a public authority that distinguished the professions and made incompatible that of the judge and that of the scribe. Documentary homogeneity, long careers, a wide presence over the territory and, above all, the ability to change vocabulary in a short time span, are signs that there was a stable link between the public authority and the scribes long before the reception of the Jus commune and the introduction of the notary institution. During the course of the fourth decade of the 11th century there was a rapid change in the vocabulary used to designate holy places and adjacent spaces, a new form generated in a Carolingian theological context. It was probably the result of the executed plan of the count authority, promoted specifically by Ermessenda of Carcassone, and accompanied by the judge Bonshom and the bishops Pere Roger of Girona and Oliba of Vic, who consecrated their respective cathedrals in 1038. In Barcelona, a change of vocabulary can be found too, in this case at Santa Maria del Mar. There, on the occasion of the renovation of the Canonical cathedral (between 1009 and 1019), a direct intervention of the counts can be attested. A few years later, during the rebellion of the lords of the March in the middle of the 11th century, the scribes continued acting under the rule of a public authority. Their function was used to consolidate the new social and economic connections, based on the private use of violence, which was exploited too through written documents.

Abstract:
This work is placed inside a large project of research, that intends to reconstruct in a systematic way the liturgical-musical tradition used in the Church of Ravenna between the XI-XII century. In the latest years the so-called “Ravenna notation” has been discovered and analyzed. From the ‘Ravenna notation” this study moves, because it has been the main way to identify the liturgical-musical sources to attribute to the Ravenna area. Sixty-eight sources in Ravenna-notation have been collected: among them thirty-one for the Mass liturgy and thirty-four for Office liturgy. In order to make the collected information available and to begin the study and the analysis of the repertories: - a descriptive form has been drown up for each of the identified sources; - the list of chants in each source related to the Mass in XII century, in which the relations between Ravenna source and reference repertories are indicated. The following studies are included in the preliminary chapters: - the history of the Church of Ravenna in order to point out the way in which liturgical tradition was formed; - specific aspects of calendar and liturgy emerged from the sources; - characteristics of Ravenna notation; - characteristics of decoration of the sources.

Abstract:
The main aim of this research is the catalogue of the Early Medieval stone sculpture of the Dioceses of Padova and Chioggia (6th - 10th Century AD). The catalogue entries give a detailed description of each stone and a discussion of its date and art-historical connections (both within Veneto region and beyond). Furthermore numerous reconstruction drawings of the liturgical furniture accompany the critical analyses. This thesis also includes a discussion of the historical and archaeological context of the stones and the reconstruction of the parish church system during the Early Middle Ages by using all the sources available (historical documents, archaeological data, inscribed stones and stone sculpture, the church titles, pastoral visiting). A chapther is expecially focused on the provenance identification of white marble elements from the Cathedral and the church of Santa Giustina in Padova (6th c.). 17 marble samples have been macroscopically described and investigated by means of mineralogical and petrographic observations of thin sections and stable isotope ratio analysis of carbon and oxygen.

Abstract:
The subject of this work is to study and compute the elasticity of the type R=A+XI[X] domains where I is an ideal of an integral domain A. In a first chapter, we compute the elasticity of R is finite if and only if the ideal I is a product of distinct primes ideals which one all principal but at most one. On the other hand, we compute the elasticity of R according to the GCD decomposition of I. We finish by showing that the elasticity of R can't be realised by a factorisation (except if R is HFD). In the second chapter, we investigate the elasticity of R when A is a Dedekind domain. First, we prove that its elasticity is finite if and only if the elasticity of A is finite and I is a radical ideal. Then we bound the elasticity of R using the number of prime ideal in the factorisation of I and some Davenport-type constants. In some special cases we derive the exact value of the elasticity. In the last chapter, we investigate the elasticity of domains of the type R=A+XI(1) ++XI(k)[X]. We obtain some necessary conditions for the elasticity to be finite when A is integrally closed and some sufficient conditions when A is ACCP. We finish by proving that when A is a UFD or a Dedekind domain, the elasticity of R is finite if and only if the elasticity of T= A+XI(k) [X] est finie et les quotients [I(k)/I(i)] sont finis

Abstract:
During the past several years, we have initiated studies to determine the role of plasma factors and platelets, and the properties of the blood vessel, which influence the activation of the coagulation mechanism on the subendothelium. Studies were performed by exposing everted segments of de-endothelialized rabbit aorta, mounted in a perfusion chamber, to non-anticoagulated human blood for 5 to 10 minutes under a range of flow conditions, and measuring fibrin and platelet deposition on the subendothelium, and fibrinopepstide A (FPA) levels in post-chamber blood. In normal subjects, platelet deposition increased progressively with increasing shear rates (50-2600 sec-1 ), whereas fibrin deposition and FPA levels decreased sharply at shear rates greater than 650 sec-1 . To examine the role of plasma coagulation factors, we utilized a shear rate of 650 sec-1 to study patients with severe deficiencies of factors XII, XI, IX or VIII. In contrast to the partial thromboplastin time (PTT), which was most strikingly abnormal in patients with factor XII or XI deficiency, fibrin deposition and FPA levels were greater in patients deficient in factor XII or XI than in those with factor VIII or IX deficiency. In addition, we observed smaller platelet thrombi in hemophilia (but not afibrinogenemia), suggesting that thrombin influenced the formation of platelet thrombi under these shear conditions. The findings suggested that tissue factor-Vila activation of factor IX could be important in mediating fibrin deposition on subendothelium and might explain why patients with factor XII deficiency (and some with factor XI deficiency) do not bleed. Initial studies to demonstrate tissue factor activity in subendothelium were inconclusive. More recently, utilizing shorter (1.5, 2 and 3 min) perfusion periods, we have observed decreased fibrin deposition and FPA levels in patients with factor VII deficiency and we have obtained further support for the presence of tissue factor in subendothelium in experiments utilizing a monoclonal antibody to tissue factor. Our studies suggest that activation of factor IX by tissue factor-Vila could account for the results obtained in patients with plasma coagulation defects. Direct experimental verification of this hypothesis will require more extensive studies on the kinetics governing the activation of coagulatjon factors on the subendothelium. In subsequent studies, we examined the role of platelets in mediating fibrin deposition. At a shear rate of 650 sec-1 we found (utilizing patients with thrombocytopenia) that platelets were required for fibrin deposition ; little or no fibrin was deposited on the subendothelium when platelet adhesion was less than 4%, corresponding to blood platelet counts less than 5000/ul. Studies performed in patients with functional platelet disorders provided additional information on the specific platelet properties that contribute to fibrin deposition at this shear rate. Decreased fibrin deposition was observed in a patient with Scott Syndrome, a disorder characterized by an impaired capacity of the platelets to catalyze the conversion of factor X to factor Xa (in the presence of factor IXa and VIII) and prothrombin to thrombin (in the presence of factor Va), the latter defect owing to a decreased factor Xa-binding capacity of the platelets. In contrast to the findings in Scott Syndrome, both fibrin deposition and FPA values were completely normal (and possibly increased) in patients with glycoprotein Ilb/IIIa deficiency. In patients with glycoprotein lb deficiency, the major defect was an impaired association of fibrin with platelets, but not subendothelium. The findings in patients with functional platelet disorders indicate that a monolayer of platelets (including those deficient in glycoprotein Ilb/IIIa) is completely active in promoting fibrin deposition on subendothelium. In addition, they suggest that an agent capable of inducing a platelet defect similar to that observed in Scott Syndrome might prevent platelet-fibrin thrombi at shear rates (200-800 sec-1 ) comparable to those in the coronary circulation. Studies performed at a variety of shear rates in both normal subject^ and patients with platelet disorders suggested that, under the conditions used, platelets were essential for fibrin formation at intermediate (650 sec-1 ), but not low (50 sec-1 ) shear rates. Since platelets have been shown to bind activated coagulation proteins (such as factor Xa, Va, and IXa) to their surface, the presence of adherent platelets on the subendothelium could, with increasing shear rates, serve to maintain activated coagulation proteins in the .boundary layer at a concentration that would otherwise be reduced through convective diffusion in their absence. Thus, at low shear rates (50 sec-1 ), the concentration of activated coagulation factors in the boundary layer might be sufficient to support fibrin deposition despite the absence of platelets, whereas at very high shear rates (2,600 sec-1 and above), even the presence of platelets is insufficient to maintain the required concentration. The shear-dependent defect of fibrin formation that we observed in Scott Syndrome is consistent with such a theory. The results of our various studies demonstrate the complex role of blood flow, plasma coagulation factors, specific platelet properties, and the procoagulant properties (tissue factor) of the vessel in mediating subendothelium-induced coagulation and suggest further experiments for studying the mechanisms involved.

Abstract:
Standard salinity management theory, derived from blending thermodynamic and semi- empirical considerations leads to an erroneous perception regarding compensative interaction among salinity stress factors. The current approach treats matric and osmotic components of soil water potential separately and then combines their effects to compute overall response. With deficit water a severe yield decrease is expected under high salinity, yet little or no reduction is predicted for excess irrigation, irrespective of salinity level. Similarly, considerations of competition between chloride and nitrate ions have lead to compensation hypothesis and to application of excess nitrate under saline conditions. The premise of compensative interaction of growth factors behind present practices (that an increase in water application alleviates salinity stress) may result in collateral environmental damage. Over-irrigation resulting in salinization and elevated ground water threatens productivity on a global scale. Other repercussions include excessive application of nitrate to compensate for salinity, unwillingness to practice deficit irrigation with saline water, and under-utilization of marginal water. The objectives for the project were as follows: 1) To develop a database for model parameterization and validation by studying yield and transpiration response to water availability, excessive salinity and salt composition. 2) To modify the root sink terms of an existing mechanism-based model(s) of water flow, transpiration, crop yield, salt transport, and salt chemistry. 3) To develop conceptual and quantitative models of ion uptake that considers the soil solution concentration and composition. 4) To develop a conceptual and quantitative models of effects of NaCl and boron accumulation on yield and transpiration. 5) To add a user interface to the water flow, transpiration, crop yield, salt transport, chemistry model to make it easy for others to use. We conducted experiments in field plots and lysimeters to study biomass production and transpiration of com (Zeamays cv. Jubilee), melon (Cucumismelo subsp. melo cv. Galia), tomato (Lycopersiconesculentum Mill. cv. 5656), onion (Alliumcepa L. cv. HA 944), and date palms (Phoenix Dactylifera L. cv. Medjool) under salinity combined with water or with nitrate (growth promoters) or with boron (growth inhibitor). All factors ranged from levels not limiting to plant function to severe inhibition. For cases of combined salinity with water stress, or excess boron, we observed neither additive nor compensative effects on plant yield and transpiration. In fact, yield and transpiration at each combination of the various factors were primarily controlled by one of them, the most limiting factor to plant activity. We proposed a crop production model of the form Yr = min{gi(xi), where Yr = Yi ym-1 is relative yield,Ym is the maximum yield obtained in each experiment, Xi is an environmental factor, gi is a piecewise-linear response function, Yi is yield of a particular treatment. We selected a piecewise-linear approach because it highlights the irrigation level where the response to one factor ceases and a second factor begins. The production functions generate response "envelopes" containing possible yields with diagonal lines represent response to Xi alone and the lines parallel to the X-axis represent response to salinity alone. A multiplicative model was also derived approximating the limiting behaviour for incorporation in a hydrochemical model. The multiplicative model was selected because the response function was required to be continuous. The hydrochemical model was a better predictor of field-measured water content and salt profiles than models based on an additive and compensative model of crop response to salinity and water stress.
