O biodiesel é um combustível biodegradável e alternativo ao diesel de petróleo, constituído de ésteres alquílicos de ácidos graxos. Os ésteres alquílicos são produzidos a partir da transesterificação de óleos vegetais ou gorduras animais com álcool na presença de um catalisador básico.
