Abstract:
This thesis is focused on assessing the impact of retrofitting dielectric All Dielectric Self-Supporting Cable (ADSS) to existing MV overhead line. This type of optical cable is a means of future strengthening of the communication infrastructure of the distribution network. However, its mechanical properties are significantly different from the properties ACSR cable, due to which its installation can be problematic in terms of meeting the requirements of the PNE 33 3301 standard. In practical part, this work deals with the design of the ADSS installation on the existing MV line and the determination of its impact based on the assessment of the results of this design.

Utvecklingen av appar för smartphones har blivit allt viktigare och har vuxit explosionsartat de senaste åren. Marknaden har varit väldigt fragmenterad. Det innebär att man har behövt utveckla en app specifikt för varje mobil plattform. I April 2009 kom PhoneGap, som är ett ramverk för utveckling av mobila appar som fungerar på de flesta mobila plattformar. Syftet med det här examensarbete var att göra en jämförande analys av utveckling med iOS SDK och PhoneGap. iOS är Apples egna operativsystem som iPhone, iPod och iPad använder. Programmeringsspråket som används i iOS är Objective-C. PhoneGap är ett ramverk som är gjord för att passa till olika mobila plattformar som stödjer HTML5. PhoneGap är baserat på HTML5 och JavaScript. Analysen genomfördes genom att en app av SmartSells webbutik utvecklas med hjälp av iOS SDK, samt en liknande app med hjälp av ramverket PhoneGap. SmartSell är ett företag som hjälper privatpersoner och företag att sälja sina begagnade saker på Internet och appen är i stort en listning av tillgängliga annonser. Analysen undersökte följande; skillnaderna mellan utvecklingen i iOS och PhoneGap och vad är för- och nackdelar med utvecklingen av de två apparna i de olika ramverken. Slutsatsen som jag kom fram till är att valet mellan iOS och PhoneGap till stor del beror på vad för typ av app man vill utveckla. Om den ska publiceras på flera plattformar ska man välja PhoneGap, åtminstone om det är en enklare typ av app. Annars är iOS ett bättre val då det är enklare och det finns mer information att tillgå.

This thesis aims generally at getting positives and negatives of popular operating system Android running on development kit Tiny6410 which is a part of FriendlyARM family. The operating system and development kit are designed to be used in user multimedia embedded applications with communication features. The goal of this thesis is to take a look on this framework and to measure main parameters of the operating system, specifically to measure switching context time and time for allocation and operation of memory block. Next goal is to create user application which will control and monitor connected oscilloscope DSO-2150 by Hantek via USB interface. This application will also demonstrate positives and negatives of all programming enviroments, which are available, for user application development with consideration of their optimal use.

The Internet and the Web are the dominant communication methods nowadays. There is also a trend in using web technology to replace or supplant the more traditional communication methods, for example using the internet to make Voice over IP telephone calls.

This thesis proposes an efficient solution to integrate VoIP/SIP call controlfunctionality into Web containers. It presents the communication convergence of Web technology, VoIP networks, and PSTN circuit switched (CS) networks.

The Web Call Software Development Kit (SDK) is the implementation of thissolution. It consists of three sub-projects: a SIP Call Control Component, a web application, and a Java ME Client Application. Using the SDK it is possible to easily implement SIP call functionality in Java EE web containers and other Java applications.

In this thesis, there are discussed use-cases of NoSQL database MongoDB implemented as a datastore for user data, which is stored by Datastore stubs in Google App Engine SDK. Existing stubs are not very well optimized for higher load; they significantly slow down application development and testing if there is a need to store larger data sets in these storages. The analysis is focused on features of MongoDB, Google App Engine NoSQL Datastore and interfaces for data manipulation in SDK - Datastore Service Stub API. As a result, there was designed and implemented new datastore stub, which is supposed to solve problems of existing stubs. New stub uses MongoDB as a database layer for storing testing data and it is fully integrated into Google App Engine SDK.

I den här uppsatsen presenteras en utgåva, d.v.s. en transkription och översättning, av Riksarkivets diplom SDHK-nr 21846. Därtill analyseras skrivarens kasusbruk i texten. Diplomet är utfärdat i Stockholm 1432 och tillhör en tid då kasusböjningen i Mälardals-området snart skulle komma att upphöra. Analysen visar att flera drag av fyrkasussystemet är bevarade i diplomet. Det främsta tecknet på dess försvagning är istället svårigheten att fastställa kasus morfologiskt. Om man borträknar förekomsten av dativ i vissa formuleringar med karaktären av stående uttryck, framstår dessutom ackusativ som det enda kasuset i prepositionsfraser. Detta skulle i sådana fall tyda på att brevets skrivare tagit ett steg mot upplöst kasussystem. Abstract:
Modern day structures are reaching higher, spanning longer and undergoing new design methods. In addition to regular loads, it is becoming increasingly important to consider the potential risks of intentional and accidental explosions on structures. In the case of reinforced concrete buildings, critical elements such as beams and columns must de designed with sufficient strength and ductility to mitigate against the effects of blast loads to safekeep the public and prevent progressive structural collapse. Recent advancements in structural materials have led to the development of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) with high compressive strength, tensile resistance, toughness and energy absorption capacity, properties which are ideal for blast protection of structures. Combining UHPC with high-performance steels, such as and high strength reinforcement is another potential solution to enhance the blast resilience of structures. This experimental and analytical research program investigates the advantages of combining high performance materials to increase the blast capacity of reinforced concrete beams. The experimental program includes tests on 21 beam specimens, fourteen of which are subjected to extreme blast loading using the University of Ottawa shock-tube, with seven companion specimens tested statically. Parameters investigated include: effect of concrete type (NSC vs. UHPC), effect of steel reinforcement type (NSR vs. HSR), effect of longitudinal reinforcement ratio, effect of fiber type/content and effect of transverse reinforcement on structural performance under static and dynamic loads. The experimental study includes three series having specified material combinations as follows: series 1 (NSC & NSR), series 2 (UHPC & NSR) and series 3 (UHPC & HSR). Each dynamically tested beam specimen is subjected to gradually increasing blast shockwaves until reaching failure. Performance assessment criteria included; maximum and residual displacements, overall blast resistance and resistance to secondary fragmentation. Results show that the specimens detailed with UHPC can resist greater blast loads with reduced mid-span displacement and debris generation when compared to beams built with conventional concrete. The combination of UHPC and high strength reinforcement further enhances blast performance and delays failure as both high strength materials balance themselves for optimum efficiency. Similarly, for specimens subjected to static loading, the use of UHPC increased the maximum load resisted by the beams, although failure mode alters from concrete crushing to rebar rupture. The combination of UHPC and high strength reinforcement further heightens beam resistance, at the expense of reduced specimen ductility. The analytical component of this thesis presents an analysis program called UO Resistance which is capable of predicting structural element resistance curves and conducting a dynamic inelastic single degree of freedom (SDOF) analysis of members subjected to blast loads. Resistance curves generated using UO Resistance were compared to data obtained through static testing and were found to effectively predict specimen response. Similarly, dynamic analysis methods implemented in UO Resistance prove to be effective at predicting specimen response under blast load. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of various modeling parameters on the static and SDOF dynamic predictions of specimen response.

A necessidade do ser humano por novos meios de comunicação, tanto entre seus semelhantes, quanto na relação do homem com a máquina, nos traz novos desafios. Este trabalho avalia o "kit" da Microsoft de reconhecimento de fala. Esta ferramenta propõe facilidades para projetos que necessitam utilizar o reconhecimento de voz. Neste estudo são abordados vários conceitos, podendo assim o leitor ter uma boa conceituação sobre os tópicos descritos. Os principais assuntos relacionados na revisão bibliográfica são o reconhecimento de padrões, inteligência artificial e a voz. Finalmente apresenta-se o Microsoft Speech SDK e suas características. Após são apresentadas as avaliações e conclusões obtidas sobre o uso da ferramenta utilizada. The human being need for new communication means so much among its fellow creatures as in the relationship man machine this brings us new challenges. This work evaluates the kit of Microsoft of speech recognition. This tool proposes means for projects that need to use the voice recognition. In this study several concepts are approached, being able to not like this the reader to have a good concept on the described topics. The main subjects related in the bibliographical revision are the recognition of patterns, artificial intelligence and the voice. Finally it introduces it Microsoft Speech SDK and its characteristics. After healthy presented the evaluations and conclusions obtained on the use of the used tool.

This paper evaluates major features of PTC’s augmented reality SDK Vuforia, available for Android, iOS and the Unity3D game engine. The performance of these features are evaluated in terms of frame rate and power consumption and the testing prototypes are developed using Unity3D. Augmented reality is a rapidly growing medium and the Vuforia SDK is very popular with over 325 000 registered developers and thousands of published applications. Despite being used to such extents, there are surprisingly few works evaluating different aspects of its performance. This paper provides an introduction to augmented reality and describes the technology used by the Vuforia SDK to deliver said features. This paper shows that Vuforia is capable of maintaining sufficient performance with interactive frame rates over 20 Hz in most cases. The power consumption of these features reduces the battery lifetime to acceptable levels, suitable for hand-held devices. In some cases, however, the performance in terms of frame rate reaches levels lower than recommended. These cases should be considered by developers looking to use Vuforia.

High-pass filtering that is one of the most efficient methods in removing long-period noise of accelerograms is investigated for its effect on nonlinear oscillator deformation response. Within this context, uncertainty in filter cut-off periods that would significantly modify the low-frequency content of accelerograms come into prominence for obtaining reliable long-period displacement response. Analog and digital ground-motion records from recently compiled Turkish strong-motion database are used and these records are high-pass filtered with a consistent methodology by randomly generated filter cut-offs that represent different filter cut-off decisions of the analysts. The uncertainty in inelastic spectral and residual displacements (SDIE and SDR, respectively) due to variations in filter cut-offs is examined to derive the usable period ranges where the effect of high-pass filtering is tolerable. Non-degrading, stiffness degrading and stiffness and strength degrading oscillator behavior are considered in these analyses. The level of nonlinear behavior in single degree of freedom (SDOF) response is described by varying the yield strength (R, normalized yield strength) and displacement ductility (µ
) levels. The usable period ranges that depend on magnitude, recording quality, level of inelasticity and level of degradation are determined for SDIE through robust probabilistic methodologies.

Axons are directed along stereotypic pathways to their targets by cues arrayed in the extracellular environment. Identifying the cellular and molecular nature of these signals is of high interest and the developing optic pathway is a useful model system for achieving this. Although previous studies have identified several molecules essential for optic pathway formation, in vivo only subsets of retinal axons rely on them. I focused on the Dscam (Down’s syndrome cell adhesion molecule) and Sidekick (Sdk) cell adhesion molecules for potentially playing crucial roles in this system. In situ hybridisation in the embryonic mouse visual system showed Dscam and Sdk-1 expression in the RGC layer of the retina, along the optic pathway and in the visual targets. Sdk-2 was detected in the glia of the optic nerve and optic chiasm, marking the pathway that RGC axons follow, but not in RGCs. No DscamL1 was detected in RGCs or the optic pathway at the stages investigated and it was discounted from future analysis. In vitro, DSCAM promoted RGC axon outgrowth, whereas SDK 1 was inhibitory. SDK 2 had no effect on RGC axon outgrowth, suggesting it does not play a direct role in their pathfinding. Repeating this assay using retinal explants from the Dscamdel17 mouse mutant, showed that DSCAM enhanced retinal axon outgrowth, at least in part, through homophilic interactions. Analysis of visual system development in Dscam mutants showed DSCAM involvement in RGC axon fasciculation and in enhancing their growth, particularly within the ipsilateral optic tract. Retinal cell counts revealed that DSCAM played diverse roles in controlling cell number. Pre- and postnatal retinas lacking DSCAM contained more RGCs and mitotic cells. Postnatally, Dscam-/- retinas also show decreased cell death. In many cases, defect severity was dose-dependent, with an intermediate phenotype in the heterozygous mice, implicating DSCAM in the neurological defects of Downs’ Syndrome patients.

Com o objetivo de consolidar e de aplicar os conhecimentos adquiridos ao longo da parte curricular do Mestrado em Gestão de Recursos Humanos (GRH), optei pela realização de um relatório de estágio como Trabalho Final de Mestrado. Surgiu, assim, a oportunidade de estagiar como Consultora Júnior na SDO Consultoria, uma empresa prestadora de serviços na área da Consultoria de GRH. Este estágio possibilitou-me a aquisição e o desenvolvimento de competências alocadas a diversas vertentes da GRH, nomeadamente nas áreas da Formação, da Seleção e Integração de Trainees, e da Análise e Descrição de Funções. No que se refere à estrutura do presente relatório, na primeira parte são desenvolvidas do ponto de vista teórico as áreas da Formação, da Gestão de Talentos através de Programas de Trainees e da Análise e Descrição de Funções. Num segundo momento, é apresentada a caracterização da SDO Consultoria. Em seguida, realiza-se a descrição das atividades realizadas ao longo do estágio curricular, nomeadamente as responsabilidades e tarefas desenvolvidas alocadas a cada uma das áreas e projetos. As atividades realizadas inserem-se nas áreas da Formação, do Assessment e Integração de Trainees, e da Análise e Descrição de Funções. Por fim, é apresentado um balanço crítico do estágio na sua globalidade, através da reflexão acerca das atividades desenvolvidas na empresa e da sua articulação com os conteúdos abordados ao longo do enquadramento teórico.
I opted for an internship as Final Work of Master in order to apply the knowledge acquired during the course of the Master in Human Resource Management (HRM). SDO Consultoria, a service company of HRM Consulting, gave me the opportunity to be a part of their team and work as Junior Consultant. This internship allowed me to acquire and develop skills allocated to various aspects of HRM, particularly in the areas of Training, Trainees' Selection and Integration, Analysis and Job Descriptions. Regarding the structure of this report, Training, Talent Management by Trainees' Programs, Analysis and Job Descriptions were developed in the first chapter. Secondly, the characterization of the SDO Consulting is presented. The description of the activities carried out during the internship, particularly the developed responsibilities and tasks allocated to each of the areas and projects, are presented next. The activities are part of the areas of Training, Trainees' Selection and Integration, and Analysis and Job Descriptions. Finally, a critical assessment of the stage as a whole is presented through the reflection on the activities of the company and its relationship with the content covered during the theoretical framework.

I studien, vilken omfattade 177 svenskfödda studenter, utvecklades och kontrollerades enegenkonstruerad enkät: SAPS. Även könsskillnader i fördomar mot okända personers etnicitetoch kön samt könsskillnader i Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) undersöktes. Fördomarmättes med SAPS och SDO mättes med en svensk översättning av SDO scale (Pratto et al.,1994). SDO scale användes också som validitetskontroll av SAPS. Statistisk prövning medSpearmans Rho visade på en negativ korrelation mellan SAPS och SDO scale. The single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) transformation factors as tabulated in John Biggs’ textbook (Biggs 1964) are accepted as the equivalent factors for simplifying and analyzing a component's response to blast. The study validates the stiffness and mass transformation factors through multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) numerical methods. After validating the transformation factors, the MDOF numerical method is used to create new stiffness and mass transformation factors for loading cases not already included in Biggs’ textbook. The validated factors, as well as the newly developed factors are used in SDOF analyses. The deflections from the SDOF responses accurately predict the MDOF responses as long as the component behaves elastically; however, the deflections diverge when inelastic behavior is involved. The diverged deflections indicate that the SDOF inelastic response analysis method can be improved.

Abstract:
Recent interest in sustainable design has resulted in timber products being considered for a variety of construction projects. This has especially been the case for engineered wood products (EWPs), such as glue-laminated timber (glulam) and cross-laminated timber (CLT). Research into the performance of these massive timber products has been ongoing, where the methodology employed has generally favoured experimental approaches on undamaged members, combined with simplified analytical methods. Relatively little attention has been given to more sophisticated numerical methodologies and to the effects of repeated loadings on the same specimen. This study intends to contribute to the literature by investigating the viability of full-scale finite element models to simulate the behaviour of timber elements at high strain rates and proposing a generalized structure for dynamic models that is capable of adequately recreating realistic failure modes. Three glulam specimens and three CLT specimens were subjected to simulated blast loads under four-point bending with simply supported boundary conditions using the University of Ottawa Shock Tube Test Facility. The behaviour of the glulam specimens during the dynamic testing was consistently linear-elastic until flexural failure was reached. Conversely, the failure behaviour of CLT panels was more complex and included flexural failure, rolling shear failure, or a combined behaviour where both modes developed simultaneously. Single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) and finite element analysis (FEA) methodologies were used to predict the behaviour in terms of displacement-time histories and failure modes. The inputs for the analytical methods relied on values sourced from literature or manufacturer data. A finite element (FE) material model was implemented into ABAQUS/Explicit through a dynamic user subroutine (VUMAT). The model used continuum damage mechanics to alter the material stiffness matrix once the elastic strengths were exceeded. SDOF analysis was shown to effectively predict the maximum mid-span displacement of glulam members subjected to blast loads, within a 20% error margin. However, the model was found to be incapable of consistently predicting the displacement and time of failure, especially for CLT panels, where up to 50% error was observed. This degree of error was attributed to the model’s inability to account for multiple failure modes, namely rolling shear and flexural failure. The resistance curves implemented in the SDOF models generally agreed with experimental results, particularly with regard to initial stiffness, and were deemed sufficiently accurate from the perspective of design. The finite element models simulated specimen ultimate behaviour reasonably well. Relatively accurate analytical predictions were also obtained for both maximum mid-span displacements and corresponding times. However, computational issues with damage transfer prevented the modeling of repeated tests on CLT panels. The FE model was capable of producing resistance-displacement relationships which correlated well to experimental results, despite the presence of numerical fluctuations. This is a significant outcome for the potential application of FEA to blast behaviour of timber components, since SDOF models require resistance curves as input and are unable to predict the force-displacement response of members.

Taip pat yra įţvelgiama, kad pasirinktas programavimo įrankių komplektas (Android SDK) nėra iki galo išdirbtas programų kūrimui, tačiau nelabai yra iš ko rinktis, kadangi alternatyvios programavimo aplinkos reikalauja jos įdiegimo. Reikia pridurti, kad testavimui yra būtina naudoti realius fizinius įrenginius. Taip pat norėtųsi paminėti, kad šiai OS buvo rastas tik vienas programinis įrankis (FuturEye), skirtas šilumos pernešimo uţdaviniams spręsti.
The main purpose of this work is to make an analysis of abilities of tools for development of Android operating system programs. In the view of the work results, we can conclude, that this OS has the biggest part of the market share by sales. Also we can see, that we are left with only one choice for development tools (Android SDK) of Android programs, because all other programming environments require that Android SDK must be installed. For a more accurate programming results, one should test applications on real devices. In addition, we should say, that only one programming tool (FuturEye) was found for heat transfer problems evaluation.

I detta examensarbete undersöks hur ett gantrysystem konstruerat i stål påverkas hållfasthets- och vibrationsmässigt av en längre räckvidd, samt hur en lösning skulle kunna konstrueras i ett alternativt material för ovanstående goda egenskaper. Arbetet är utfört på ett företag, vilket är världsledande inom tillverkning av industrirobotar samt el- och servomotorer. Gantrysystemet är ett system som har i uppgift att förlänga en svetsrobots arbetsområde i upp till tre dimensioner. Svetsroboten monteras på gantrysystemets ena axel och kan med dess hjälp förflyttas och arbeta kring svetsobjektet. Gantrysystemet har idag en begränsad räckvidd som önskas förlängas med 1m i ena riktningen, kallad x-riktningen. Balken som önskas förlängas kallas för x-balken. Dagens konstruktion har problem med vibrationer som uppstår under drift, vilka främst uppkommer vid hastiga inbromsningar. Vibrationerna medför väntetider för svetsroboten, då vibrationerna måste dämpas ut så att svetsroboten är i stabilt tillstånd då den fortsätter att svetsa. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att ge gantrysystemet en ökad prestanda genom att möjliggöra ett större arbetsområde för svetsroboten och alternativt i framtiden en högre transporthastighet. Dagens gantrysystem är en stålkonstruktion men önskas kunna konstrueras i ett alternativt material för att bredda konstruktions- och designmöjligheterna. För att besvara examensarbetets problemformulering har statiska FEM-analyser och frekvensanalyser utförts i Solidworks, samt enklare modellering i form av Single Degree of freedom system. Kompositmaterial har studerats som alternativt material, då materialtypen var ett önskemål från företagets sida samt utefter undersökningar har ansetts som lämpligt för sitt ändamål. Två kompositkoncept har resulterats, vilka har använts för att besvara problemformuleringen. Slutsatser från arbetet är att en förlängd x-balk i stål förvärrar vibrationsproblemen i olika grad beroende på studerat system medan hållfastheten inte försämras i någon större skala. En kompositbalk anses ha potential att uppnå hög hållfasthet och god vibrationsdämpning. Dock har inte kompositkoncepten visat sig vara lika styva som stålbalkarna och därmed har inte en förbättring av vibrationsmotståndet kunnat säkerhetsställas genom metoderna använda i detta arbete. Författaren av detta examensarbete rekommenderar därmed att läsaren ser detta arbete som en förundersökning och förordar i och med det vidare utveckling med slutsatserna från detta examensarbete som grund.

En Internetbaserad enkätundersökning med 355 deltagare genomfördes för att undersöka om ett antal personlighetsdrag predicerar klassiska dominansattityder mot hundar. Dessutom undersöktes om samma variabler plus klassiska dominansattityder predicerar en överseende attityd till plågsamma metoder för att uppnå hundlydnad. Av variablerna visade sig manligt kön och klassiska dominansattityder vara de viktigaste för att predicera en överseende attityd till plågsamma metoder. För att predicera en hög grad av klassiska dominansattityder var manligt kön och en hög grad av social dominansorientering viktigast.

Da qui si avverte la necessità di un design d’interfaccia utente efficace e pratico che renda il rapporto uomo/macchina semplice ed intuitivo. Negli ultimi anni questo proposito è stato accolto da sviluppatori e progettisti che si sono affacciati nel mondo della “Realtà Aumentata”, una nuova visione d’insieme nel rapporto tra mondo reale e virtuale. Augmented Reality (AR), propone infatti di sviluppare nuove interfacce uomo-computer, che invece di mostrare le informazioni digitali su display isolati, immergano i dati stessi nell’ambiente concreto. Sfuma così una distinzione marcata tra il reale e il virtuale, ma anzi si cerca di combinare in modo naturale la coesistenza di quest’ultimi, permettendo la creazione di interfacce utente semplici e intuitive anche per applicazioni complesse. Il proposito che la tesi vuole andare ad affrontare è proprio quello di indagare lo sviluppo di nuove applicazioni basate su questa tecnologia. Nel primo capitolo verrà analizzatala storia, i campi di applicazione, i device più importanti sui quali è implementata e le varie tecniche di Tracciamento. Nella seconda parte della tesi andremo a interessarci del sistema vero e proprio sul quale regge questa tecnologia. Quindi nel successivo capitolo vedremo esempi di architetture e di piattaforme che offrono questa realtà di sviluppo, soffermandoci su un particolare caso di studio: Metaio; di cui nel terzo e ultimo capitolo indagheremo framework, SDK e API messe a disposizione.

The ionospheric response to solar EUV variability during 2011 - 2014 is shown by an EUV proxy based on primary ionization calculations using combined solar spectra from SDO/EVE and SolACES on board the ISS. The daily proxies are compared with global mean TEC analyses. At time scales of the solar rotation and longer, there is a time lag between EUV and TEC variability of about one to two days, indicating dynamical processes in the thermosphere/ionosphere systems. This lag is not seen at shorter time scales. When taking this delay into account the TEC variance at the seasonal and short-term time scale explained by EUV variations increases from 71% to 76%.
Die ionosphärische Antwort auf Variationen des solaren EUV im Zeitraum 2011-2014 wird anhand eines Proxys dargestellt, welcher die primäre Ionisation auf der Basis gemessener solare EUV-Spektren beinhaltet. Die täglichen Werte werden mit Analysen des global gemittelten Gesamtelektronengehalts verglichen. Auf Zeitskalen der solaren Rotation und länger findet sich eine Zeitverzögerung zwischen der EUV-Variation und des derjenigen des Gesamtelektronengehalts von ein bis 2 Tagen, welche auf dynamische Prozesse im System Thermosphäre/Ionosphäre hinweist. Die Verzögerung ist auf kurzen Zeitskalen nicht zu sehen. Wenn diese Verzögerung berücksichtigt wird, erhöht sich die durch EUV-Variationen erklärte Varianz des Elektronengehalts von 71% auf 76%.

Reinforced Concrete (RC) bridge piers, RC columns along exterior of buildings or those located in parking garages are designed to support large compressive axial loads but are vulnerable to transverse out-of-plane loadings, such as those arising from impacts or explosions. To address a lack of understanding regarding blast and impact response of RC members and the need for retrofit techniques to address deficiencies in existing structures, a multi-disciplinary team including various institutes of the National Research Council and the University of Ottawa has initiated work towards developing a fibre reinforced polymer composite protection system for RC columns subjected to extreme shocks. This thesis will focus on the impact program of the aforementioned project. An extensive literature review was conducted to gain a better understanding of: impact loading and associated dynamic effects; experimental testing of RC members subjected to impact; experimental testing of axially loaded members; and retrofit methods for the protection of RC under impact loading. Five half-scale RC columns were constructed and tested using a drop-weight impact machine and two additional specimens were tested under static loading. Deflections, strain distributions within the columns, impact loads and reaction loads were measured during the testing of the built RC members. Comparisons of experimental datum were established between members with differing levels of axial load and between a retrofitted and a non-retrofitted member. Single-degree-of-freedom analysis was used to obtain the predicted response of certain columns under impact loading allowing for comparisons with experimental data.

Ever had an experience of forgetting to do something very important on a place you just past?. Remembering, on arrival at your destination afterward, requires an action to return to the task location. This can be unproductive and perhaps result to frustration. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a “Location Task-To-Do manager” an android mobile application that will efficiently organizes task-to-do list and remind an individual to perform a task at a pre-defined location through notification and alert messages. The methods used includes,  investigation of pre-existing systems, requirement elicitation survey technique, three-tier architecture design pattern, iterative development life-cycle model, acceptance test plan and a sets of other technology such as  Java SDK, Android APIs, TCP/IP protocol, object oriented programing techniques and MySql relational database. The result showed that, installed “Location Task-To-Do manager” application on individual mobile devices/smartphones were capable of creating task, adding task, editing task, deleting task, sharing task and setting task location through its user friendly graphical interfaces. Users are able to receive notification to perform a task within a minimum distance of 1km to the exact task location.

The threat of terrorist bombings and accidental industrial explosions motivates the need for more economical and efficient blast-resistant construction techniques that offer enhanced levels of protection at reduced component damage levels. Despite having a high strength-to-weight ratio and being chemically inert, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcing bars are not currently used in blast-resistant reinforced concrete due to their brittle nature and lack of ductility. However, the innovative use of blended mixtures of FRP and steel rebar as tensile reinforcement promises to address these limitations through self-centering behavior that provides reductions in residual damage and enhancements in flexural performance. This thesis presents the results of an experimental and analytical investigation on the effect of hybrid arrangements of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) and conventional mild steel reinforcement on the blast performance of reinforced concrete beams. Seven large-scale reinforced concrete beams with different combinations of tensile steel and GFRP rebar were designed, constructed, and tested under progressively increasing blast loading generated using the Virginia Tech Shock Tube Research Facility. The effect of hybrid reinforcing on the blast performance of the beams was evaluated based on the global response, failure mode, damage pattern, mid-span displacement, and support reactions of the tested beams. The results demonstrated several benefits in using hybrid arrangements of steel and GFRP reinforcement. Beams with hybrid reinforcing experienced reduced overall residual displacements compared with similar conventionally reinforced concrete members. This was attributed to the elastic nature of GFRP rebar which was found to produce a self-centering behavior that assisted in returning the hybrid members to their original undeformed position. This permitted the hybrid beams to safely experience larger maximum displacements at substantially less damage than all-steel construction. Furthermore, if the GFRP reinforcement did rupture, the presence of steel arrested hazardous component failure and provided additional energy dissipation and redundancy. Accompanying the experimental tests was an inelastic single-degree-of-freedom analysis to predict the displacement time-history response of the beams. Reasonably good predictions of response were obtained when the advanced material models and the effects of accumulated damage due to repeated blast testing were incorporated into the analytical predictions. Finally, a series of protective design recommendations and a new proposed response limit, that describes the level of damage achieved after a blast event, were established to encourage use of hybrid GFRP/steel reinforcement in blast-resistant construction.

This thesis focuses on the dynamic and static behaviour of reinforced concrete beams built using high-strength concrete and high-strength steel reinforcement. As part of this study, a total of 8 high-strength concrete beams, built with and without steel fibres, and reinforced with high strength ASTM A1035 bars are tested under simulated blast loading using the University of Ottawa shock-tube, with an additional 3 companion beams tested under quasi-static loading. The variables considered in this study include: concrete type, fibre content, steel reinforcement ratio and steel reinforcement type. The behaviour of the beams with high-strength steel bars is compared to a companion set of beams reinforced with conventional steel reinforcement. The criteria used to evaluate the blast performance of the beams includes: overall blast capacity, maximum and residual displacements, secondary fragmentation and crack control. The dynamic results show that high strength concrete beams reinforced with high-strength steel are able to resist higher blast loads and reduce displacements when compared to companion beams with conventional steel reinforcement. The results also demonstrate that the addition of steel fibres is effective in controlling crack formation, minimizing secondary blast fragments, reducing displacements and further increasing overall blast capacity. However, the use of high-strength steel and high-strength concrete also shows potential for brittle failures under extreme blast pressures. The static results show that specimens with high-strength steel bars do not increase beam stiffness, but significantly increase peak load carrying capacity when compared to beams with the same ratio of conventional steel reinforcement. The analytical research program aims at predicting the response of the test beams using dynamic inelastic single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) analysis and includes a sensitivity analysis examining the effect of various modelling parameters on the response predictions. Overall the analytical results demonstrate that SDOF analysis can be used to predict the blast response of beams built with high-strength concrete and steel reinforcement with acceptable accuracy.

Il dolore rappresenta una problematica rilevante sia per l’invecchiamento della popolazione, sia per l’aumento dell’incidenza dei tumori. E' quindi forte la necessità di sviluppare nuove strategie per la gestione del dolore. A questo scopo, una risorsa che la tecnologia offre è quella della realtà virtuale. Approfondimenti sulle modalità con cui realtà virtuale può offrire supporto a pazienti oncologici non ospedalizzati, sono stati portati avanti dalla fondazione ANT. Tuttavia, una delle problematiche riscontrate nella conduzione degli studi consiste nel fatto che questa tecnologia, allo stato dell’arte, non è concepita per finalità di ricerca. Questa tesi ha come obiettivi la presentazione dello stato dell’arte tecnologico e clinico e la modifica, dell’applicazione Oculus 360 Videos SDK al fine di agevolare la fase di raccolta dati nell’ambito di studi sull’efficacia della realtà virtuale nel trattamento del dolore oncologico. Nel primo capitolo viene trattata in generale la tecnologia della realtà virtuale, saranno descritti i suoi componenti principali e il problema della cybersickness ad essa legato; nel secondo capitolo vengono approfondite le basi neurobiologiche della riduzione del dolore mediata dalla realtà virtuale e presentati gli studi più rappresentativi fino ad ora condotti in questo campo; nel terzo capitolo invece viene spiegato l’intervento di modifica apportato a livello software al modello Samsung Gear VR allo scopo di agevolare l’avanzamento della ricerca.

Jag har under min tid på Blekinges Tekniska Högskola jobbat som timvikarie på ett LSS-boende för personer med olika funktionsnedsättningar på Olofströms kommun i Blekinge. Där kom min tanke fram att jag ville slå ihop mitt jobb och skolarbete för att skapa något för en väldigt specifik men ändå bred målgrupp. Det har alltid funnits ett intresse hos mig i att skapa applikationer till handhållna enheter såsom surfplattor och smartphones, och att de inte bara används till saker som att ringa och skicka sms utan att de även används som hjälpmedel och läromedel. Jag har använt mig utav metodologin deltagande design, där jag har jobbat tillsammans personer som har kognitiv funktionsnedsättning vilket innebär att man har någon form utav funktionsnedsättning i hjärnan. Under utvecklingen har dessa personer varit med ända från början till idé ända fram till prototyp, då jag behövde ha deras erfarenheter jag själv inte besatt för att veta hur jag skulle forma applikationen runt just deras behov. Med all erfarenhet som dessa personer gett mig i arbetet så har jag skapat en mobilapplikations-prototyp utifrån deras känslor och idéer. Idéer som har kommit upp under våra workshops, där vi diskuterade vilka vardagliga aktiviteter de själva tyckte var roliga att göra utomhus samt inomhus, och hur hade man kunnat göra dessa vardagliga aktiviteter roligare? Två idéer som vi sedan slog ihop till en vilket var promenader och picknick. En applikation där det är tänkt att de ska ha möjligheten att kunna bjuda sina vänner och familj på picknick, genom att göra en slags lista över vad de vill ha med sig på picknicken och göra ett evenemang av det hela
During my time at Blekinge Institute of Technology I’ve worked at a LSS housing facility in Olofström, Blekinge. It was there I got the idea to merge my job and schoolwork to create something for a very specific target group. I have always been interested in creating applications for hand-held devices such as tablets and smartphones that are used as aids and teaching materials. I’m using the methodology participatory design, and along with people that lives with cognitive disabilities, meaning they have some form of disability in their brain, I developed a prototype. I needed their experience and knowledge because I don’t know how I would shape the application to fit their needs otherwise. With all the experience these people gave me, I created a prototype based on their feelings and ideas, ideas that have been brought up in our workshops. In the workshops we discussed the everyday activities they thought were fun, outdoors as well as indoors, and what could make those activities even more enjoyable. The two ideas that we emerged with, and later merged, were walking 4 and picknicking. The idea is for an application where you have the opportunity to invite your friends and family to a picknick. You make a list of what you want to include on the picknick and then create an event.

Denna uppsats har två övergripande syften. För det första gör jag en utgåva – det vill säga en transkription, översättning och kommentar – av det medeltida diplomet SDHK nr 12636. Detta gör jag för att bidra till Svenskt Diplomatariums löpande publicering av de bevarade medeltidsbreven. För det andra undersöker jag variationen i utformningen av ett antal brevformler som ingår i tio medeltida diplom utfärdade i Vadstena socken mellan åren 1374 och 1423. I denna del av studien lägger jag fokus vid fem formler ur det brevideal som stundom kallas Ars dictandi. I dessa fem formler tittar jag på en rad variabler för att undersöka förhållandet mellan konstans och variation. Detta görs ofta med utgångspunkt i stereotypa formuleringar och jag studerar både hur dessa har använts och deras inre variation. Resultaten pekar på att nästintill samtliga undersökta formler realiseras med stereotypa formuleringar, vilket innebär att det studerade materialet innehåller en tämligen stor grad av konstans. Icke desto mindre kan formlernas utformningar varieras på detaljnivå.

Abstract:
The Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) is an emerging SAE standard for messaging between and within unmanned systems, enhancing interoperability, code reusability, and modularity. To date, most JAUS implementations have been produced by developers in the JAUS Working Group, who have an intimate understanding of the intent of the specification. As a result, the standards documents produced by the Working Group sometimes omit key implementation assumptions the developers had in mind.

The work described in this thesis is intended to provide objective feedback from the viewpoint of a developer who began implementing JAUS independent of the standards committee and is now embedded in the Experimentation Task Group.

This paper presents the lessons learned through this journey, from development of the first-ever JAUS software development toolkit for the LabVIEW programming language, through participation in Experimentation Task Group interoperability exercises 2.75 and 3.0, and to the establishment of the first internet-based testing environment for JAUS.

The results of this experience are presented as a collection of recommendations to the standards committee, organized in a series of diverse implementation case studies.

Underground coal mine explosions pose a significant threat to infrastructure such as mine seals and refuge alternative chambers. After a mine seal failed in the Sago mine disaster, which took the life of 12 miners, design requirements were reexamined and improved. However, most research being completed on the analysis of mine structures during an explosive event focuses solely on peak pressure values, while ignoring the impact of pressure duration. This study investigates the impact pressure duration, waveform shape, and impulse have on structural displacement, while also exploring what pressures and duration can be expected during a mine explosion. Additionally, the use of high explosives to simulation conditions experienced during a mine explosion is examined. Results from this study are produced through experimental testing using a scaled shock tube and theoretical studies using finite element analysis.

La tesi proposta tratta di Realtà Aumentata. Grazie ad essa si è in grado di inserire componenti virtuali all'interno del mondo reale, aumentando così il numero di informazioni e la semplicità di ottenimento di esse da parte dell'utente. La nascita della tecnologia è riconducibile al 1957 tramite l'invenzione della macchina Sensorama. Da questa prima idea la Realtà Aumentata ha avviato un processo di evoluzione fino ai giorni nostri. Quest'ambito di innovazione è in stretto contatto con altre due tecnologie: la Realtà Virtuale e la Realtà Mista. Per quanto in relazione presentano caratteristiche individuali. Oggi, la Realtà Aumentata, è utilizzabile su diversi dispositivi quali smartphone e visori, e la qualità dell’esperienza è un fattore che determina la differenza tra queste due strumentazioni. Per lo sviluppo di un'applicazione AR esistono diverse possibili scelte da consultare, ognuna propone determinate caratteristiche. La scelta che influirà maggiormente sullo sviluppo dell’applicativo è definita dal SDK selezionato. Gli utilizzi attuali di questa tecnologia sono svariati: l’istruzione, la formazione, l’arte, lo sport e il mondo dei videogiochi sono solo alcuni degli ambiti. Dispositivi sempre più efficienti e confortevoli, e applicativi sempre più realistici, è ciò che si può aspettare dal futuro della Realtà Aumentata, ma è di fondamentale importanza tenere a mente e risolvere le problematiche che possono insorgere da uno sbagliato utilizzo.

En la actualidad, no existe gran variedad de herramientas que permitan a la comunidad de desarrolladores Android implementar aplicaciones orientadas a entornos de múltiples pantallas y que, adicionalmente, les permitan cumplir con lo descrito por Ensemble Interactions y los patrones de diseño definidos para estos entornos, los cuales, en conjunto, son conceptos que proponen el trabajo en conjunto de todos los dispositivos disponibles en un mismo entorno. Por otro lado, de las pocas herramientas que permiten el desarrollo de este tipo de aplicaciones, algunas han sido implementadas por grandes empresas desarrolladoras de dispositivos móviles que limitan sus herramientas para que funcionen únicamente con los dispositivos que le pertenecen. Por todo ello, este trabajo busca implementar una herramienta que permita a la comunidad de desarrolladores Android desarrollar aplicaciones móviles orientadas a entornos de múltiples dispositivos y que se alineen a lo definido por Ensemble Interactions y los patrones de diseño. Dicha herramienta basará la interacción entre los dispositivos sobre una red Wi-Fi sin la necesidad que esta cuente con acceso a internet. Asimismo, esta herramienta estará disponible en dos versiones, una para el desarrollo de aplicaciones Android y otra para el desarrollo de aplicaciones en Samsung Smart TVs. A continuación, en el primer capítulo se expondrá el proyecto y su gestión. Luego, se dará paso al marco teórico sobre el que se basa este trabajo. En el tercer capítulo se analizará a detalle la situación actual de todas herramientas y tecnologías que permiten desarrollar aplicaciones orientadas a entornos de múltiples pantallas. A continuación, en el quinto capítulo describirá la metodología de trabajo empleada en el desarrollo de este proyecto y los resultados obtenidos. En el sexto capítulo se presentará el producto final del trabajo y las medidas de gestión tomadas a lo largo de su desarrollo. Finalmente, se listarán las conclusiones y recomendaciones propuestas con este trabajo.

Cílem práce je vytvoření podpory pro editovaní videa v HDR formátu. Pro editaci videa je zvolen program Adobe Premiere Pro a na dosažení požadovaného výsledku je vytvořen plugin do zmiňovaného softwaru, který poskytuje požadovanou funkcionalitu. V práci jsou vysvětleny principy vytváření, zobrazení a ukládáni obsahu z rozšíreným dynamickým rozsahem. Zároveň jsou vysvětleny principy vytváření pluginů pro Adobe Premiere Pro za pomoci SDK verze CS6. V praktické části této práce jsou vysvětleny detaily implementace, problémy, které byly řešené, a popis samotného pluginu. Návrh pluginů je vytvořen tak, aby byla možná další práce na tomto softwaru, přidaní další funkcionality a pro umožnění využití tohoto díla na rozvoji obsahu s rozšíreným dynamickým rozsahem.

This, in turn, has changed end-users’ expectations and experiences in the recent years in terms of available services, which have made mobile applications (apps) to find their place in daily life. In line with the significant growth of smartphones, as the iPhone and Android phones, is also the development of mobile applications exploded. Mobile use has - with this - fundamentally changed and much of what customers used to do on the computer, they do now on their mobile. It makes of course requires that third-parties have a mobile presence and correct utilization, this new arena enormous business opportunities. Hence, as mobile devices become a more visible business tool, it becomes important for organizations to develop applications to meet customer needs and stay competitive. Third-party development is relevantly in the core of software development nowadays. The introduction of smartphones and tablet devices, the associated products, and services in the form of apps has significantly changed software developments practices for developers. The aim of this research formulated to study the development process and practices associated with third-parties and their effects on dealing with various mobile platforms and boundary resources (SKDs and APIs). Qualitative study and exploratory design are extensively conducted for data collection and analysis. Primary data is gathered based on experiences, opinions, and insights from the experts in the subject, and secondary data is gathered from literature, which constantly supports the primary data and ensures the research credibility. The main contribution and results of this study are the factors and development process that third-party developers take into consideration when developing apps for iOS and Android such as ecosystem, programing language, platform, programing model, tools, development process model, supply chain, and submission apps. The success of the digital ecosystems and platform knowledge adopted by Apple and Google has gained a lot of attention from developers in the last years concerning mobile application development. This, in turn, was the key factor of their success at the smartphones market and the portal for developers from all the world.

WM-data tillhandahåller en lösning för mobil arbetsorderhantering. Lösningen innehåller planeringsverktyg med ärenden, personal och karta och möjlighet att leverera arbetsorder till fältpersonal. Den innehåller dessutom handhållna mobilenheter, vilka fältpersonalen använder för att ta emot aktuella arbetsorder.Vissa kunder önskar ytterligare en modul i denna mobila lösning. Den nya modulen skall användas för att kontinuerligt rapportera in genomförda åtgärder i snöröjningssammanhang.Detta examensarbete går ut på att utveckla den här modulen för att registrera snöröjning respektive sandning. Applikationen exekveras på en PDA, en så kallad Pocket PC med Windows Mobile 5.0. Anledningen till att just Windows Mobile 5.0 skall användas är att detta operativsystem har inbyggt stöd för GPS-positionering. Ett önskemål av WM-data var att detta inbyggda stöd skulle undersökas, rapporteras och användas i applikationen.Resultatet blev en applikation där man via en Pocket PC kontinuerligt sparar undan fordons GPS-position, arbetsåtgärd samt tidpunkterna när GPS-positionerna togs. Denna information är sedan anpassad för att kunna skickas vidare via GPRS till en befintlig databasserver under vissa tidsintervaller.Applikationen utvecklades med hjälp av programmeringsspråket C Sharp (C#) i Visual Studio 2005.
