Abstract:

Bien que les poèmes de Saint-Denys Garneau aient attiré l’attention d’un bon nombre de traducteurs et de traductrices anglophones, les deux qui ont le mieux réussi sont F. R. Scott et John Glassco, deux poètes associés au groupe de McGill, lequel était actif à l’époque de Saint-Denys Garneau. Leur rapport avec le poète québécois sera abordé en deux volets. Dans un premier temps, je décris les contextes historiques reliés à l’émergence de la poésie de Saint-Denys Garneau. S’il a fallu plusieurs années pour que sa poésie soit dûment reconnue par les lecteurs francophones, son accueil par le milieu littéraire anglophone fut encore plus lent, et il est même frappant que ce dernier n’ait jamais accordé au poète le statut qui lui revient. En dépit du fait qu’une traduction complète de ses poésies par John Glassco soit disponible, son absence dans le monde littéraire anglophone serait due à la fois à ses traductions et à l’incapacité des lecteurs anglophones à comprendre sa poésie. Il y aurait une différence d’imaginaire entre les lecteurs canadiens et québécois. Pour éclaircir cette différence, je me sers, dans le second volet de la réflexion, de la distinction qu’établit Pascal entre l’esprit de géométrie et l’esprit de finesse, dont le premier caractériserait le lecteur canadien et le second, le lecteur québécois. Même si, en somme, Saint-Denys Garneau avait la bonne fortune de trouver une traduction vraiment réussie, ce qu’il n’a pas pour le moment, une telle traduction ne trouverait que peu de lecteurs.

Abstract:

An opinion piece by Ben Macintyre entitled ‘Sorry, Scott fans: noble death is so last century’ appeared inThe Times(London) on 20 September 2013. In this, Macintyre argued not only that Ernest Shackleton should be explicitly contrasted against his contemporary and rival Robert Falcon Scott, but that Shackleton should be found superior to Scott in virtually every way. It was a dispiriting piece, strongly suggesting that that the media's understanding of Scott has not greatly advanced since the savage, cod-psychological and often unsubstantiated attacks upon Scott's character and reputation in the 1970s–1990s. Sadly, all too often polar history is reduced to a zero-sum game where praise for Shackleton is directly proportional to insults directed at Scott.

Bevezetés: A súlyos férfi terheléses inkontinencia a radikális prostatectomia után kialakult leggyakoribb szövődmény, sebészi kezelésében „gold standard” a művi záróizom-beültetés. A készüléket dr. Brantley Scott fejlesztette ki és ültette be először 1972-ben, majd az évtizedek során számos fejlesztésen ment keresztül. A ma is használt formája 1982-ben került forgalomba AMS 800 néven, amely azóta több, mint 250 ezer esetben került beültetésre. Az irodalmi adatok alapján a leggyakoribb szövődmény magának az eszköznek a meghibásodása, uroinfekció, húgycsőlézió, illetve hibás méretválasztás. Ezekben az esetekben a műsphincter cseréje, illetve eltávolítása szükséges. A relatíve magas szövődményráta ellenére is a súlyos esetekben elsőként választandó műtéti terápiás megoldás, mivel a betegek 79%-ánál a kontinencia jelentős javulása érhető el. Betegek és módszerek: Munkacsoportunk által 2010 és 2022 között 21 betegnél került beültetésre AMS 800 műsphincter. Összefoglalónk célja az volt, hogy az általunk végzett beavatkozások szövődményeit összehasonlítsuk az irodalmi adatokkal. Eredmények: 21 beteg nyomon követését végeztük, 16 esetben radikális prostatectomia, míg 5 esetben transurethralis prosztatareszekció után történt AMS 800 beültetése. 6 beteg adjuváns irradiációban is részesült. Az esetek 9%-ában infekciós szövődményt észleltünk, emellett 9-9%-ban húgycsőatrófia, illetve húgycsőerózió került felismerésre. A készülék meghibásodását az esetek 19%-ában észleltük. Az adjuváns irradiáción átesett betegeknél a sebészei reintervenció szignifikánsan gyakrabban vált szükségessé. Következtetés: A jelentős és tartós kontinenciajavulás miatt a gyakori szövődmények ellenére a súlyos férfi terheléses inkontinencia kezelésében a műsphincter-implantáció a „gold standard” megoldás. A gyakori szövődményarány miatt ezen betegek rendszeres utánkövetése alapvető fontosságú.

Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é analisar as anotações e opiniões sobre os romances de Walter Scott presentes em cartas escritas pelo imperador Pedro II. Para isso, serão utilizadas como fonte as missivas enviadas pelo imperador à princesa Isabel e ao conde de Gobineau, entre os anos de 1860 e 1880, e que hoje fazem parte do Arquivo Grão-Pará do Museu Imperial de Petrópolis. A análise das práticas de leitura retratadas nessas cartas teve como base três aspectos principais: de que maneira a obra de Walter Scott era vista no século XIX, qual eram os pensamentos de Pedro II sobre esses livros e como o imperador e a princesa Isabel realizaram a leitura do romance Ivanhoé. Ao final do trabalho, conclui-se que a leitura de livros de Walter Scott era bastante valorizada pela crítica do período e por outros membros da aristocracia. Pedro II também admirava as qualidades literárias dos romances de Scott, que, segundo ele, eram uma ótima ocupação para os momentos de descanso e lazer. Além disso, em suas cartas, ele indica a leitura de diferentes obras do escritor, como Ivanhoé e Waverley, com base em critérios que também eram utilizados pela crítica especializada do período, como a qualidade das descrições, a verossimilhança, a construção das personagens e a capacidade dos romances de entreter e instruir os leitores.Palavras-chave: Walter Scott; família imperial brasileira; Ivanhoé, carta; leitura.Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze the notes and opinions about Walter Scott’s novels written in letters by Emperor Peter II. The corpus of the study are the missives sent by the emperor to Princess Isabel and to the Count of Gobineau between the years 1860 and 1880 and which are part of the Grão-Pará Archive of the Imperial Museum of Petrópolis. The analysis of the reading practices represented in these letters is based on three main aspects: how Walter Scott’s work was seen in the 19th century, what were Pedro II’s thoughts about these books and how the Emperor and Princess Isabel read the novel Ivanhoe. It is concluded that the reading of Walter Scott’s books was highly valued by critics of the period and by other members of the aristocracy. Pedro II also admired the literary qualities of Scott’s novels, which, according to him, were a great occupation for moments of leisure. In his letters, he indicates the reading of different works of the writer, such as Ivanhoe and Waverley, based on criteria that were also used by specialized critics of the period, such as the quality of the descriptions, the construction of the characters and the capacity of the novels to entertain and instruct the readers.Keywords: Walter Scott; Brazilian imperial family; Ivanhoe; letter; reading.

This research aims to analyze and describe the management of Scout extracurricular activities at SDIT Al-Mumtaz Pontianak, focusing on the aspects of planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising. The method employed is a case study approach within the qualitative research paradigm as proposed by Spradley. Data collection techniques encompass structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentary analysis. The findings indicate that the management of Scout extracurricular activities at Gudep 05.047-05.048 Umar bin Abdul Aziz Fatimah Az-Zahra Pangkalan SDIT Al-Mumtaz Pontianak can be outlined as follows: (1) Planning, involving mentor meetings at the beginning of each academic year to discuss activity plans; (2) Organization, where the Front Cluster leadership is held by Kamabigus, overseeing the male and female Gudep mentor leaders; (3) Implementation: Overall, the execution of Scout activities at SDIT Al-Mumtaz Pontianak reflects a unique approach and a strong commitment to Islamic values; (4) Supervision, carried out collaboratively by several parties, including mentors, coordinators, and the Deputy Head of Student Affairs.

Dua web series Indonesia, yaitu Sore: Istri dari Masa Depan dan Filosofi Kopi The Series: Ben and Jody dianalisis menggunakan teknik cliffhanger menurut James Scott Bell. Dua web series tersebut paling banyak mengakhiri episode dengan pengambilan keputusan oleh tokoh, yang berpengaruh pada plot di episode berikutnya. Selain itu, pola cliffhanger yang juga sering digunakan adalah pemberian surprise.

Cette recherche se propose d’analyser l'effet de la perception des contextes éducatifs de la classe et de la troupe scoute sur les attitudes et capacités de leadership (value-based leadership) des adolescents de 15 et 16 ans. L'étude a été menée sur un échantillon de jugement, composé de 600 élèves et 231 Scouts inscrits en 4e et 5e secondaire à Rome. Les instruments utilisés sont l’Educational context perception questionnaire -ECPQ, et la Socially responsible leadership scale-SRLS à laquelle a été ajoutée une échelle de Capacités de leadership. Les analyses confirment l'hypothèse que le contexte éducatif a un impact sur le développement du leadership des adolescents. Cet article décrit les résultats en termes de leadership, de perception du groupe classe et scout et d’impact du contexte éducatif sur les attitudes et capacités de leadership. Les différences liées au genre, au fait d’assumer ou non des responsabilités au sein de l’établissement scolaire, d’aimer ou non l’école, d’être perçu comme un bon ou mauvais élève, sont aussi présentées.

Previous to 2001, Islam was a mere flicker on the radar of popular xenophobic paranoia. A decade and a half and the world’s first global moral panic later, this situation has changed entirely, apparently by design. As the editors of Global Islamophobia point out, the Terror Scare has elevated Muslims to ‘transnational folk devil,’ foisting the logic of ‘if you think for yourselves the terrorists win’ on the public realm in the name of defending democratic values. Em pesquisa anterior na base de dados da SBPJOR (Associação Brasileira de Pesquisadores em Jornalismo) (MARTINEZ; LAGO; LAGO, 2016), que cobre o período 2010-2014, apontamos para um possível boom das pesquisas relacionando jornalismo aos estudos de gênero. Neste presente levantamento, realizado na base de dados dos grupos de pesquisa de jornalismo da Intercom nos últimos cinco anos (2016-2020), comprovamos este aumento quantitativo dos trabalhos. Apesar do incremento, permanece uma relação tênue na questão da integração teórica dos dois campos de estudo, na medida em que boa parte dos trabalhos apresentados não incorpora de forma consistente a vasta perspectiva dos Estudos de Gênero, mantendo um tipo de pesquisa com caráter descritivo (PERUZZO, 2018), não aprofundando a possibilidade de utilização do conceito de gênero enquanto uma categoria de análise (SCOTT, 1995) operacional para entender o campo do Jornalismo.

Abstract:

Molecular genetic markers of various PCD (programmed cell death) variants during xylo- and phloemogenesis have been identified for the first time in Scots pine under lingonberry pine forest conditions in Northwest Russia (middle taiga subzone). PCD is a genetically determined process. Gene profiles of serine and cysteine proteases (endopeptidases), endonucleases, and metacaspases families are often considered markers of the final xylogenesis stage. In the present study, we examined the gene expression profiles of the BFN (bifunctional endonuclease) family—BFN, BFN1, BFN2, BFN3, and peptidase (cysteine endopeptidase, CEP and metacaspase, MC5) in the radial row, in addition to the vascular phloem and cambium (F1), differentiating xylem (F2), sapwood (SW), and transition zone during the active cambial growth period of uneven-aged pine trees (25-, 63- and 164-cambial age (c.a.) years old). We have shown that the expression patterns of the PCD-related genes did not depend on the cambial age but were largely determined by plant tissue type. In the radial row F1-F2-SW, we studied the activities of enzymes, including sucrose in metabolism (sucrose synthase, three forms of invertase); antioxidant system (AOS) enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase); and peroxidase andpolyphenol oxidase, which belonged to AOS enzymes and were involved in the synthesis of phenolic components of cell walls. The activity of the enzymes indicated that the trunk tissues of pine trees had varying metabolic status. Molecular genetic PCD regulation mechanisms during xylem vascular and mechanical element formation and parenchyma cells’ PCD during the formation of Scots pine heartwood were discussed.

As fibras vegetais são utilizadas de diversas formas e maneiras, gerando emprego renda e cidadania. O artesanato é uma atividade que gera renda com base no manejo responsável das matérias primas. O objetivo principal deste estudo foi analisar o artesanato com fibras vegetais comercializado no município de Boa Vista, Roraima, visando identificar as principais espécies e partes vegetais utilizadas e como são elaboradas as peças artesanais. Os dados sobre as espécies vegetais, os utensílios fabricados e sua utilização, foram obtidos através de entrevistas semiestruturadas com os comerciantes e vendedores. Foram identificadas sete espécies, distri- buídas entre seis gêneros e quatro famílias. A família Arecaceae apresentou três espécies: Astrocaryum aculeatum G. Mey., Mauri- tia flexuosa L.f. e Desmoncus polyacanthos Mart.; Marantaceae registrou duas espécies: Ischnosiphon obliquus (Rudge) Körn. e Ischnosiphon arouma (Aubl.) Körn., enquanto que Araceae apresentou apenas a espécie Heteropsis spruceana Schott. A família Sapindaceae registrou a utilização de uma espécie do gênero Serjania. Os principais órgãos das plantas utilizadas são as raízes, folhas e caules. As fibras são comercializadas na forma de jóias, móveis, objetos decorativos e em sacolas com diferentes pesos.

The development of the Arabic language curriculum is the planning of Arabic language learning which includes the planning of the components of the objectives, content, strategies and evaluations to bring learners to the desired objectives of the Arabic language learning. Pedagogic competence of lecturers is the ability of lecturers in managing student learning which among the aspects is curriculum development. This research is qualitative research that aims to find out how the development of the Arabic curriculum in ma'had Umar bin Al-Khattab (MUBK) and how to achieve the development of the Arabic language curriculum in improving the pedagogic competence of lecturers. In the process, this research uses data collection techniques in the form of documentation, interviews and observations. The data obtained is analyzed by data reduction, data presentation and conclusion examination. It is known from the results of data and analysis that the development of the Arabic curriculum in (MUBK) following the opinion of Audrey Nicholls and Howard Nicholls affirmed by Michaelis, Grossman, and Scott. The achievement of the development of Arabic curriculum in ma'had Umar bin Al-Khattab can improve the pedagogical competence of lecturers in the aspect of curriculum refining. The increase was 87.5% in the making of RPS, 50% in making teaching plans at each meeting, 0% in teaching materials in order and teaching materials following the provisions set by 2.5%. If calculated, the improvement of pedagogic competence of lecturers in developing the curriculum by 35%.

A aplicação de técnicas de investigação de alta resolução, com base em métodos Direct Push, para caracterização litoestratigráfica de áreas contaminadas, vem possibilitando a obtenção de modelos conceituais mais consistentes. Para avaliar a aplicação dessas técnicas em ambientes aluvionares, adotou-se como área de estudo o campus da USP Leste, no município de São Paulo. Foram analisadas três técnicas de campo: ensaios com sensor de condutividade elétrica da sonda MIP, ensaios com o sistema Soil Color Optical Screening Tool (SCOST) e amostragem de solo pelo método Dual Tube. Adicionalmente, procedimentos laboratoriais foram adotados para caracterização granulométrica e análises do teor de matéria orgânica das amostras de solo. Os perfis obtidos em campo pelo MIP e pelo SCOST apresentaram boa correlação qualitativa com as descrições litológicas e com os perfis granulométricos, refinando a caracterização litoestratigráfica. Já as análises do perfil de matéria orgânica mostraram a presença de camadas com elevado teor orgânico, indicando elevado potencial metanogênico, principalmente nas camadas de argilas e siltes orgânicos em meio aos sedimentos quaternários. As técnicas Direct Push adotadas demonstram um grande potencial para a caracterização litoestratigráfica em alta resolução de ambientes aluvionares.

Manguezais são ecossistemas de grande importância ecológica e econômica, devido aos serviços ecossistêmicos que oferecem para as comunidades humanas. Diversas áreas de manguezal estão localizadas próximas a regiões urbanizadas, o que contribui com a degradação desses ambientes, devido a inúmeros impactos antrópicos. O conhecimento sobre as características morfológicas do solo é essencial para auxiliar propostas de conservação e restauração desses ecossistemas. Dessa forma, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o crescimento de propágulos e plântulas das espécies Rhizophora mangle (mangue vermelho), Avicennia schaueriana (mangue preto) e Laguncularia racemosa (mangue branco) em diferentes tipos de sedimentos. O experimento utilizou um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, contendo três tratamentos (A: 100% areia; L: 100% lama; e misto, M: 50% areia + 50% lama), com três repetições cada, totalizando nove propágulos por espécie e 27 mudas no total. As amostras foram mantidas em ambiente com boa iluminação, regadas com água doce e medidas semanalmente, durante 15 semanas (de agosto a novembro de 2022). Todos os propágulos tiveram 100% de germinação nos três tipos de sedimento. Para verificar se os tratamentos tinham efeitos significativamente diferentes no desenvolvimento das mudas, foi realizada uma análise de variância e o Teste de Scott-Knott. Foi observado que os substratos lama e misto mostraram os melhores resultados de crescimento para as três espécies. O sedimento misto pode ser uma boa alternativa para o cultivo de mudas de mangue e projetos de restauração de manguezais, uma vez que demanda menos sedimento fino (lama) do próprio ecossistema.

The extent of variability in acid extract viscosity and its relationship to total soluble and insoluble β-glucan was determined in hulled (Bonanza) and hulless (Tupper and Scout) cultivars of barley grown at several locations on the Prairies. Acid extract viscosity was influenced significantly by cultivar, year and location in the Saskatchewan Agricultural Development Fund Regional Variety Test and by cultivar in the Hulless Barley-Wheat Comparison Test. The cultivar ranking for the 2-yr mean extract viscosity was Bonanza < Tupper < Scout. Total and soluble β-glucan were determined with an endo-β-glucanase purified from a crude bacterial α-amylase preparation (BAN 1000 S). Soluble β-glucan, on average, formed 32.7%, and the insoluble (calculated by difference) the remainder 67.3% of the total β-glucan content of barley. Acid extract viscosity was positively correlated (r2 = 0.83, n = 15) with total β-glucan content. The correlation between total and insoluble β-glucan content was + 0.68. Perchloric acid extraction of the meal followed by enzymatic hydrolysis of the extract was the most rapid and convenient procedure for the determination of total β-glucan content of barley.Key words: Barley (hulled, hulless), β-glucan, soluble β-glucan, insoluble β-glucan, acid extract viscosity

Objetivou-se avaliar e selecionar híbridos experimentais F1 de tomate de mesa do grupo salada quanto ao desempenho agronômico em condições de campo. Conduziu-se o experimento na Estação Experimental da Nunhems do Brasil, em Paulinia-SP, de fevereiro a junho de 2008. Obtiveram-se híbridos experimentais entre dez linhagens do BAG de tomate da Nunhems. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental blocos casualizados com 36 tratamentos, quatro repetições e dez plantas por parcela. Com base no agrupamento de médias pelo teste de Scott-Knott, os resultados do desempenho agronômico dos híbridos experimentais para sete características avaliadas mostraram grande variabilidade entre os genótipos para comprimento de fruto e largura de fruto, com quatro grupos de médias. Os híbridos mostraram boa variabilidade para produção de frutos por planta e altura de planta, com três agrupamentos cada e, para as características número de frutos por planta, número de pencas por planta e distância da primeira penca do solo, mostraram-se menos divergentes, com dois grupos de médias. HE-38 e HE-14, com valores heteróticos positivos, destacaram-se como os mais produtivos em relação ao híbrido-padrão Aplauso.

Os estudos de gênero têm trazido contribuições importantes para a historiografia, principalmente no que diz respeito ao papel feminino na História. Dessa forma, este trabalho procura demonstrar como a Igreja Católica tentou dominar os corpos e mentes de mulheres, utilizando-se de discursos normalizadores para atender seus interesses religiosos, culturais e sociais. Para demonstrar como esse fenômeno ocorreu, analisaremos um veículo de imprensa que circulava em Recife no período em questão, a revista “Maria”, ligada diretamente a associação da Pia União das Filhas de Maria. Esta revista direcionada para as mulheres das classes média e alta da cidade do Recife. Portanto, nossa pesquisa analisa o período de 1937 a 1945, com o intuito de mapear e analisar quais matérias, colunas e poemas representam exemplos de discursos normalizadores, com o interesse de imprimir nas suas leitoras os deveres de uma boa católica. Nesse sentido, utilizaremos como referenciais teóricos os estudos de gênero proposto pela historiadora Joan Scott e conceito de normalização desenvolvido pelo filósofo Michel Foucault; como proposta metodológica, utilizaremos as contribuições da historiadora Tania Regina de Luca para o uso e análise dos periódicos.

Cover crops between rows of coffee contributes to the promotion of a sustainable production. The objective of this work was to evaluate the improvement of the chemical and physical attributes of the soil and coffee production using cover crops between the coffee lines. This study was at Boa Esperança Farm, Serrania – MG. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks, with 7 treatments and 4 replications: control, no cover plant, with traditional farm management (chemical and mechanical weed control); crotalaria (Crotalária spectablis); cuandu (Cajanus cajan); cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.); mix of crotalaria + cuandu + cowpea; Brachiaria brizanta (Urochloa brizantha) and Brachiaria ruzizienses (Urochloa ruzizienses) as cover plants. The data were submitted to analysis of variance by the Scott-Knott test at 5% probability. Results confirm that cover crops promote cycling and nutrient accumulation in the soil, maintain a mild temperature and promoted better moisture maintenance. It also demonstrated that although the population dynamics of weeds have a positive result, only the use of cover crops is not enough for 100% weed control in the coffee crop. Besides, they have a contribution to the development and production of coffee and to reduce the phytonematoid population.

A Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Nim) é uma espécie nativa da Ásia e da África, possui boa distribuição em regiões de clima tropical e subtropical, como o Brasil. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a propagação clonal pela técnica de miniestaquia da Azadirachta indica A. Juss em função de substratos compostos por materiais alternativos disponíveis na região de Patos-PB. Avaliaram-se seis tratamentos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em parcelas constituídas de três miniestacas, com três repetições. O experimento foi realizado utilizando propágulos vegetativos de um minijardim clonal da espécie, localizado no Viveiro Florestal, na Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (UFCG), Campus Patos-PB. Coletaram-se no minijardim brotações, confeccionadas miniestacas e as mesmas foram plantadas em tubetes contendo os substratos a serem avaliados. Foram coletados dados de massa seca de raízes, da parte aérea, massa seca total e agregação do substrato às raízes. Submeteram-se os dados ao teste de normalidade de Lillierfors (D), apresentando distribuição normal. Realizou-se a análise de variância, teste F e a comparação das médias pelo teste de Scott-Knott. Em relação aos parâmetros coletados, os melhores resultados foram obtidos pelo substrato composto por 50% de casca de coco verde + 50% do coproduto resultante da extração de vermiculita.

A determinação da umidade das sementes pode auxiliar na preservação de espécies florestais, pois a umidade é um dos fatores que influenciam no processo de deterioração das sementes. Assim, o objetivo desse trabalho foi definir o teor de umidade de sementes de Ficus adhatodifolia armazenadas por mais de dois anos no Laboratório de Sementes da UNESP/Botucatu/SP. Para isso, utilizamos o método de estufa proposto nas Regras de Análise de Sementes. O teor de umidade para sementes de F. adhatodifolia foi de 8,50 ± 0,16%, indicando que estas sementes podem estar em boa qualidade para serem utilizadas na propagação da espécie, pois para armazenamentos por períodos maiores que 12 meses, a literatura relata que as sementes devem apresentar teores de umidade inferiores a 11%, como podemos verificar em nosso estudo. Mesmo assim, o teste de germinação deve ser realizado para verificar a qualidade das sementes armazenadas.

A queda natural de frutos maduros da bananeira, resultado da separação individual de frutos da coroa da penca, também chamada despencamento, é uma característica indesejável, que pode limitar o lançamento de uma nova cultivar. O fruto destacado da penca tem vida de prateleira reduzida, além de não demonstrar boa aparência aos olhos do consumidor. Os objetivos do presente trabalho foram quantificar a suscetibilidade à queda natural dos frutos de bananeiras de grupos genômicos e ploidias diferentes, e identificar correlações entre a queda natural e diversas características físicas dos frutos. Foram utilizados 37 genótipos de bananeiras. De acordo com análise de variância e teste de Scott-Knott, os resultados evidenciaram a alta resistência ao despencamento dos genótipos pertencentes ao grupo genômico BB (Butuhan, Piraí e BB França), Terra (AAB), Poteau Nain (tipo figo) (ABB) e Thap Maeo (AAB), enquanto Prata-Anã (AAB), Grande Naine (AAA), Ambrósia (AAAA), Ouro (AA) e FHIA 18 (AAAB) obtiveram valores intermediários de resistência ao despencamento. Com relação às bananeiras suscetíveis, destacam-se os híbridos melhorados Pioneira (AAAB), YB42-21 (AAAB), Buccaneer (AAAA) e Calypso (AAAA) e a cultivar Ouro da Mata (AAAB). Verificou-se associação de 74% entre a firmeza do fruto e a resistência ao despencamento. Os estudos de grupos genômicos e ploidias indicaram maior resistência ao despencamento das bananeiras pertencentes ao grupo BB e dos genótipos triplóides ABB e AAB.

Abstract:

Abstract Trisomy 21, Down Syndrome, results in a constellation of symptoms including increased risk for leukemia. In contrast, mounting evidence indicates that people with Down Syndrome have lower rates of numerous solid tumors, particularly carcinogen driven cancers, even when adjusted for age. The mechanisms that dictate why this occurs are not well understood but could potentially yield actionable targets for treating or preventing cancer formation. We hypothesized Ts65Dn mice, a murine model of Down Syndrome, would be protected against BCa formation and could be evaluated as a genetic basis for the discovery of novel therapeutic targets in bladder cancer. Using the well characterized N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN) chemical carcinogen bladder cancer model we initiated tumors in Ts65Dn and WT mice. After 16 weeks BBN exposure, TS65Dn mice were found to have smaller bladder tumors by weight with a trend toward lower stages as compared to WT animals. RNA-sequencing was used to assess broad genomic changes in the tumors. Reactome analysis of the RNA-sequencing data indicated pathways associated with mitosis and the cell cycle were most affected in Ts65Dn mice, including downregulation of pathways associated with Aurora Kinase B (AURKB). AURKB is a pro-tumorigenic kinase known to enhance cell survival and proliferation. Bioinformatics analysis indicates that while AURKB is broadly expressed in most tissues, it is potently upregulated in bladder cancers, offering a potential therapeutic target. Using the AURKB specific inhibitor barasertib-HQPA we evaluated drug sensitivity in a set of BCa cell lines. Cell lines associated with a basal subtype gene signature (5637, HT-1376) were largely susceptible to barasertib with IC50 values in nM concentrations, whereas other BCa cell lines (HTB-5, T24) had IC50 values nearly 1,000X higher. We next assessed histone H3 phosphorylation, a known substrate of AURKB, to validate drug efficacy. Interestingly, inhibition of histone H3 phosphorylation was noted in all cell lines at nM concentrations, indicating that while barasertib is functionally active in both sets of cells, the anti-proliferative activity is not dependent upon phosphorylation of histone H3, but rather other factors that we have yet to determine. In conclusion, we have found Ts65Dn mice have reduced tumor formation when exposed to the BCa carcinogen BBN and furthermore, have identified AURKB as a potential therapeutic target. Abstract:

Taro [Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott] corms from 57 vegetatively propagated cultivars were evaluated for yield, physical and chemical characteristics, and either microwaved, microwaved and ground into poi, or fried. Poi color ranged from purple to orange or yellow and the dry matter content from 18.3 to 48%. The taste panel preferred poi made from a number of other cultivars than that made from the most common cultivar `Lehua Maoli' used in Hawaii, and a darker bluish-red poi was preferred. Corm total soluble solids were positively correlated to corm specific gravity and dry matter, and to the taste preference of microwaved corm and poi. The fried cultivars varied widely in yield and corm color varied from cream to white. Additionally, some cultivars did not have purple vascular bundles, and others were acrid after frying. Chip oil content was negatively correlated to corm weight, dry weight, and chip yield. The `Bin Liang' cultivar was judged the best overall in fried chip taste. Considerable variation in corm yield and quality characteristics existed in this widely cultivated vegetatively propagated tropical crop.

Abstract:

Smoking is one of the most avoidable cause of death and disability. Smoking not only affects smokers but also nonsmokers who are involuntarily exposed to smoke raising a serious concern for public health, safety, and welfare. Concerns regarding secondhand smoking came to the ground after various medical scientific researches and publications quantified and confirmed the health risk of passive smoking after exposure with it, which drew the public attention. The turning point for the government to introduce a ban of smoking at public and workplaces to protect the right of nonsmokers to enjoy fresh air, came as a 2006 Health Act in UK after it was strongly backed by the recommendation given by SCOTH regarding SHS. Through this policy, the government also supports internationally recognized comprehensive tobacco control standard. UK was first among the FCTC parties to introduce comprehensive smoke free legislation. The major objective of this policy is to limit the preventable epidemic of smoking. This policy is based on the Health Policy Triangle which considers the interaction of all four elements (Content, Context, Process and Actors) to structure policymaking. For agenda setting Kingdon model was used and for implementation phase of the policy Top-down approach was used. The major stakeholders that supported 2006 Health Act were Labour party, The Royal College of physicians (RCP), Action on smoking and Health (ASH) and research and evidence-based news while Tobacco industry and hospital trade was against the Act. The evidence suggested that risks of heart disease in secondhand smoker was double than what was known before. SHS became an agenda when in 2003, around 11,000 adults exposed in home and 617 people exposed in workplace died in UK because of exposure to SHS. People want to quit smoking and wanted help from government to make favorable environment. Following the public consultation white paper was published, Choosing Health: Making Healthy Choices Easier, in November 2004. It set the target that by 2008 all enclosed public places and workplace would be smoke free with some exceptions. Act was supported by labour party and department of Health Economist was of the view that ban would not have any immediate benefits on passive smoker instead it will discourage the young from starting. After publishing the white paper in 2004 there was the consultation period till 2005. There was a voting in parliament and majority of voted for ban on smoking in public places. As a result, Health Act 2006 was introduced on 1st July 2007. Smokers were against the ban, but the purpose of the ban was to focus on protecting health of people from SHS not make smokers quit. Reports disseminated after inspection from local bodies confirmed high levels of compliance with smoke free legislation. The data showed there were 2.4% reduction in hospital admission in a year for heart attack and almost 7000 fewer admission due to childhood asthma. Thus, Smoking ban policies have shown effective public health interventions for the prevention of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and respiratory mortality and preserve the health of children.

Abstract:

The objective in the present work was to evaluate the genetic diversity among 15 indigenous populations of camu-camu plants, identifying important characteristics in the evaluation of genetic divergence, based on the initial characteristics of the seedlings. Seeds extracted from fruits deriving from fifteen indigenous populations of camu-camu were collected. The experimental design was entirely random, with fifteen treatments (populations), and fifteen repetitions (each sub-sample), considering 30 seeds per subsample as an experimental unit. At 40 days after sowing the following were evaluated: the percentage of emergence, the index of emergence velocity, the average time of germination, the height of the seedling and the number of leaves. The data obtained was submitted to variance analysis, and the averages were grouped by the Scott and Knott (1974) test. The genetic diversity was studied according to the Tocher grouping method, based on the Mahalanobis distance (D2ii) and canonical variables. The fifteen populations are divergent among themselves and the Rio Branco Estirão do Veado, Rio Branco Onofre and Igarapé Agua Boa populations are indicated to have hybridization with other populations due to the high divergence, as well as the rates of emergence and vigor of the seedlings. The height of the seedlings, percentage and speed of emergence, are those that most indicate genetic divergence. The measuring techniques of genetic divergence, canonical variables Mahalanobis distances are useful and corroborating in the evaluation of genetic divergence of the camu-camu plant.

Neste colóquio, cujo tema central é o estudo da personagem como categoria fundamental do discurso literário, propomo-nos a revisitar a personagem Gatsby, personagem principal do romance The Great Gatsby publicado em 1925 pelo escritor norte-americano Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. Gatsby encanta gerações de leitores há décadas, tornou-se uma personagem ícone não apenas na Literatura dos Estados Unidos mas uma personagem emblemática no panorama dos estudos literários pelos debates que suscitou e, ainda suscita, a respeito de valores individuais e coletivos, uma personagem que desafiou o mito do sonho americano e que conquistou notoriedade internacional imprimindo o seu nome na galeria das grandes personagens. A popularidade de Gatsby rompeu as fronteiras do literário migrando para outros espaços mediáticos, entre eles: o cinema, a televisão, o teatro, a banda desenhada, os jogos de computador, o balé e a ópera, apenas para citarmos alguns exemplos dessas produtivas relações intertextuais e interdisciplinares que emergiram a partir da leitura do romance de Fitzgerald. Em sendo assim, este ensaio baseado nas teorias da narratologia pós-clássica – especialmente a desenvolvida por Henriette Heidbrink que estuda as personagens em diferentes media – tem como objeto de estudo a reconfiguração da personagem Gatsby das páginas da literatura para as telas do cinema demonstrando que a sobrevida da personagem, e sua excelente receção junto ao público, deve-se, em boa parte, pela sua imensa capacidade de reconfiguração em diferentes media, fator este que explica os 88 anos de um esplendoroso sucesso de uma personagem que literalmente sobreviveu à morte do autor.

Encerrando o ano de 2019 a Revista Brasileira de História & Ciências Sociais – RBHCS – comemora sua primeira década de existência! A RBHCS surgiu como uma aposta de pesquisadores e pesquisadoras interessados em assuntos transversais entre a História e os diversos seguimentos das Ciências Sociais. Abstract:

Este estudo apresenta um levantamento florístico e a caracterização dos diferentes tipos fisionômicos de uma restinga localizada no município de Tamandaré, em Pernambuco, além de analisar a similaridade de sua flora com outras restingas ao longo do litoral nordestino. Foram identificadas 104 espécies, distribuídas em 88 gêneros e 54 famílias. As famílias que apresentaram um maior número de espécies foram Myrtaceae (sete), Fabaceae e Cyperaceae (seis) e Euphorbiaceae (cinco). A área apresentou três tipos fisionômicos distintos: campo aberto não inundável, fruticeto aberto não inundável e floresta aberta não inundável. O campo não inundável é caracterizado pelas seguintes espécies mais representativas: Abildgaardia scirpoides Nees, Borreria verticillata (L.) G. Mey., Cuphea flava Spreng. e Cyperus hermaphroditus (Jacq.) Standl.; enquanto o fruticeto aberto não inundável com Abarema cochliacarpos (Gomes) Barneby & J.W. Grimes, Byrsonima gardneriana Juss., Byrsonima sericea DC., Croton sellowii Baill. e Stigmaphyllon paralias A. Juss. As espécies mais representativas da floresta não inundável foram Andira nitida Mart. ex Benth., Manilkara salzmannii (A. DC.) H.J. Lam., Pera glabrata (Schott) Poepp. ex Baill., Protium bahianum Daly e Saccoglotis mattogrossensis Malme. A análise de agrupamento mostrou que existem dois grupos florísticos distintos, um grupo formado pelas restingas de Pernambuco (Sirinhaém, Tamandaré e Paiva (Cabo de Santo Agostinho) e outro formado pelas restingas de Pernambuco e Alagoas (Boa Viagem - Recife e Maceió).

DESEMPENHO DE GENÓTIPOS DE FEIJÃO PRETO NA REGIÃO DE CAMPO NOVO DO PARECIS - MT O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho agronômico de genótipos de feijão comum, grupo comercial preto, cultivados na região de Campo Novo do Parecis – MT.O ensaio foi instalado e conduzido, entre os meses de fevereiro e maio de 2016 e 2017, na área experimental do setor de produção do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Mato Grosso – IFMT Campus Campo Novo do Parecis, cujas coordenadas geográficas são latitude S 13°40’31’’ longitude O 57°53’31’’ e altitude média de 574 m. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com 12 tratamentos (nove linhagens e três padrões) e três repetições. Foram avaliadas as características agronômicas altura da planta, diâmetro do caule, dias para o florescimento inicial, dias para a maturação fisiológica, número de vagens por planta, número de grãos por vagem, número de grãos por planta, massa de cem grãos e produtividade de grãos. Os dados submetidos à análise de variância e ao teste de média Scott-Knott, ambos a 5% de probabilidade. O feijão comum preto é uma cultura que se desenvolve bem no chapadão do Parecis, permitindo a colheita mecanizada pela boa resistência ao acamamento. A produtividade de grãos pode ser satisfatória, desde que não ocorra estresse hídrico na fase reprodutiva. Entre os genótipos pesquisados, o BRS FP403, CNFP 15697 e CNFP 15684 se destacaram no desempenho produtivo. Para obter um bom rendimento é necessário investimento, pois a cultura é exigente em água.Palavras-chave: melhoramento genético vegetal, Phaseolus vulgaris, valor de cultivo e uso. ABSTRACT: The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance of common bean genotypes, black commercial group, grown in the region of Campo Novo do Parecis, state of Mato Grosso. The experiment was set and conducted from February to May 2016/ 2017 in the experimental area of the production sector of the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Mato Grosso – IFMT Campus Campo Novo do Parecis, at the geographical coordinates 13°40’31” S latitude and 57°53’31” W longitude and an average elevation of 574 m. The experimental design was complete randomized, with 12 treatments (nine lines and three standards) and three replications. Plant height, stem diameter, days for initial flowering, days for physiological maturation, number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod, number of grains per plant, mass of one hundred grains and grain yield were evaluated in this study. Data were submitted to analysis of variance and to the Scott-Knott mean test, both at 5% probability. Black common bean is a crop that grows well on the Parecis’s region, allowing mechanized harvesting for good resistance to lodging. Grain yield may be satisfactory as long as there is no water stress in the reproductive phase. Among the evaluated genotypes, the BRS FP403, CNFP 15697 and CNFP 15684 showed good productive performance. Investment is necessary to achieve a good yield because the crop is demanding in water.Keywords: cultivation value and use, genetic plant breeding, Phaseolus vulgaris.
