Abstract:
Relevance. At present, the implementation of bilateral scientific cooperation programs between Japan and Russia is difficult due to the aggravated international situation. However, scientific contacts need to be developed, as they con-tribute to mutual understanding between the Russian and Japanese peoples, even under the condition of political differ-ences. An appeal to the Soviet experience in the development of interaction between the USSR and Japan in the field of science will allow taking into account the accumulated experience, various forms and ways of establishing a bilateral scientific dialogue between countries at the present stage. The purpose of the study is to determine the forms of Soviet-Japanese scientific interaction in the Soviet period. Research objectives: to identify the contribution of government, public structures, and individuals to the devel-opment of Soviet-Japanese scientific ties, to study the mechanism of scientific interaction between the USSR and Ja-pan. Methodology. The comparative-historical and chronological methods were used in the work. Results. The author traces the activities of governmental and public organizations of Japan and the USSR, the contribution of private companies and individual scientists to the development of Soviet-Japanese scientific ties. The activities of Japanese and Soviet universities to establish bilateral scientific exchange and book exchange have been studied. Conclusion. During the Soviet period, book exchange became one of the forms of Soviet-Japanese scientific cooperation. An effective form of bilateral scientific cooperation has become direct contacts between scientists of the two countries at international scientific conferences and during visits of researchers to the USSR and Japan. The most intensively developing form of scientific interaction was scientific exchanges between Japanese and Soviet institutions. It should be noted the significant contribution of individual institutions and public organizations of the countries to the development of scientific bilateral relations. The factors stimulating the development of scientific exchanges were the study of Russian and Japanese languages, the conclusion of long-term cooperation agreements. In addition, scientific exchanges were significantly intensified by changes in the political and economic situation in the Soviet state in the second half of the 1980s.

Abstract:
AbstractStarting as early as 1951, and with increasing urgency after 1956, Chinese and Indian statisticians traded visits as they sought to learn from each other's experiences. At the heart of these exchanges was the desire to learn more about a cutting-edge statistical method, random sampling, which, while technically complex, held great practical salience for large and diverse countries such as China and India. This paper draws upon unpublished documents, letters, institutional archives, memoirs, oral history and newspaper reports to reconstruct the sequence of these exchanges, their outcomes and the concerns of the participants. The exchanges demonstrate not only the crucial role played by Indian statisticians in the rise of random sampling, but also the amount of resistance these methods generated in places like China (and the Soviet Union). As a clear instance of South–South scientific exchange, they also compel a broadening of our understanding of early Cold War scientific networks, which should no longer be dominated by centre–periphery models that take either the USSR or the US as the centre. Finally, the exchanges hint at the varied nature of post-1949 Sino-Indian history, a subfield still dominated by geopolitics and a focus on the causes, course and legacy of the Sino-Indian War of 1962.

The objective of this work was: To investigate the degree of participation of medical students from a privately managed university in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina, in the recovery activity in October 2021 and the associations they make between the topics presented. The research was developed in a descriptive way with a non-experimental design. The practical work was proposed for the students to do it asynchronously within a week, with daily monitoring by the teaching team. The sample selected in a non-probabilistic way for convenience is 16 fourth-year students studying MethodologyThe most frequent characteristics of the scientific knowledge identified by the students were descriptive, explanatory and predictive It is striking that none recognized the provisional nature of the knowledge that flowed permanently with the information provided by the sources consulted. It is interesting to note that the number of views was 200, therefore if an average per student of 12.5 views of this resource available on the web offers the possibility of a truly enriching exchange. As heads of chairs such as Methodology where students begin to go through the steps of an investigation,it is necessary to look for alternatives within the available resources that motivate students, generating curiosity, synergy and proactivity. Promoting spaces for the exchange of opinions, information transfer is key to strengthen skills associated with critical thinking and communication. New technologies by providing the possibility of asynchrony and synchrony allow a fluidity in the exchanges between the teaching body and the students.

Abstract:
Traditional histories of Early Modern exchange tend to emphasize the dispersion and adoption (or rejection) of European science and culture. More recently, there has been an historiographical trend to see early modern international interactions as multi-direction exchanges in which all parties are altered in each interaction. The 1685 French-Jesuit Embassy to Siam provides an interesting opportunity to explore the implications of this multi-directional approach. Although this exchange had no significant, lasting impact on either Siam or France, the dynamics at play demonstrate how each party’s attitude towards the exchange impacted their ability to achieve their aims. This paper uses Guy Tachard’s first-hand account of the 1685 Embassy, Voyage to Siam, to explore the political, scientific, and religious exchanges that took place between the French and the Siamese. On each of these levels, the French were consistently concerned with their own perception and cultural superiority whereas the Siamese were primarily motivated by a desire for an intellectual exchange. The Siamese successfully gained scientific equipment and knowledge from the French Jesuits whereas the Jesuits failed to convert Siam to Christianity. Thus, this interaction shows how differing attitudes lead to tangible differences in the outcome of this cross-cultural interaction.

Abstract:
The creators of Sydney's botanic garden were a varied group of people with diverse agendas and interests, only some of whom saw themselves as men of science. While several were trying to advance botany, others were more concerned with self-advancement or financial gain. Yet they collaborated, almost unintentionally, to found Australia's first scientific institution. Exchanges of plants were crucial to forming and maintaining the relationships between these different figures. Studying these exchanges allows hitherto neglected figures to take their place in the garden's story alongside well-known ones. This study also takes issue with the notion that British colonial botanic gardens were established as part of a botanical empire, with Kew Gardens at its centre. It also seeks to extend Susan Leigh Star and James R. Griesemer's idea of ‘boundary objects’, by suggesting that relationships based on barter, gift-exchange or patronage rather than cash played a key role in mediating between the participants in colonial scientific institutions.

Introduction. The basis for the advancement of the rank is legislative and normative, legislative acts, regulations, instructive materials, informational staff, and special literature. The gross scientific method for the analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, convergence from the abstract to the concrete were used, as well as specific methods of analysis: grouping, ruling, systematic, etc. The purpose of the article is to justify the development of futures trading and its introduction into the sale of agricultural products in Ukraine in modern conditions. Results. This article proves that an important condition in ensuring the transparency of pricing and sales of agricultural products in Ukraine should be the creation of an exchange market for commodity derivatives for agricultural products. Low volumes of trade in forward contracts in Ukraine make it impossible for small and medium-sized commodity producers to understand better the essence of trade in commodity derivatives for agricultural products. Analysis of the state of the commodity exchange market in the country shows that quantitative and qualitative indicators do not match in Ukraine, according to the State Statistics Committee at the beginning of 2014. 586 commodity exchanges were registered (excluding stock exchanges), which is 95 times more than in 1992 (62 exchanges) and almost 2 times more than in 1999 (300 exchanges). Among these universal exchanges – 107, commodity and commodity exchanges – 391 exchanges, agro-industrial – 25, others – 39. It is highlighted that the Ukrainian stock market has not taken its rightful place as required by the market economy. It was created without a clear legal framework, weak understanding and uncertain behavior of the state in relation to exchange activities, as well as the absence of a state regulator that would coordinate, supervise and organize the work of commodity exchanges. Conclusions. It is proved that the increase in sales of agricultural products on commodity exchanges has been largely achieved through the registration of export contracts on accredited exchanges in recent years, which had no practical impact on the pricing process and stabilization of the agricultural market. Keywords: futures, futures market, agricultural products, agricultural sector, stock market, world market.

Abstract:
Abstract The economic activity of a country is achieved both by domestic activity and by international economic and technical-scientific exchanges. International commercial activity is a necessary one nowadays. This is because there is no state capable of performing an autarchic activity. Regardless of of the technical, scientific, resource, and level of development, any state needs to participate in international economic, technical and scientific exchanges. Through international economic exchanges, the need for resources, means of production, labor resources or goods and services is completed. Also in this economic activity of international exchanges is realized the capitalization of surplus production, goods and services, surplus fixed capital, which is offered for export or as a possibility of cooperation in international projects. Thus, the activity of international exchanges is a necessity for each state. Under the conditions of the European Union, in which Romania is a member, there are a number of facilities and in this respect they are being implemented or are being implemented under the European Directive on trade without borders. In this respect, between the Community countries, in the exchange of goods and services, protection measures such as the import tax are no longer practiced and VAT is no longer charged. The international economic exchanges are a significant role in the final result materialized in the level of gross domestic product achieved in each period of time. The countries that import and do it to supplement domestic needs means that they spend part of the value realized in domestic activity to make imports. The exports are made with surplus goods and services that go to other states. In the European Union there are intra-community economic exchanges, complemented by extra-community international economic relations. The authors have studied this aspect and have found that intra-community economic relations have developed more intensively than non-EU economic relations over the last period. In other respects, states are grouped into two categories, ie states with surplus international economic relations, ie states that export more than imports and the second group, countries with activities in the international deficient relations, which imports more than just exports. Comparison between exports and imports results in net exports that may be a surplus or deficit. Romania has always been a deficit country since 1990 and it has to be analyzed in the sense that, due to the difference in favor of imports, part of the gross domestic product made in Romania diminishes with this deficit. The authors, by analyzing this data, highlight how the activity of international economic exchanges has evolved.

186 Background: Cancer patients and their caregivers are increasingly using social media as a platform to share cancer experiences, connect with support, and exchange cancer-related information. Yet, little is known about the nature and scientific accuracy of cancer-related information exchanged on social media. Methods: We conducted a content analysis of 12 months of data from 18 publically available Facebook pages hosted by parents of children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (n = 15,852 posts), and extracted all exchanges of medically-oriented cancer information. We systematically coded for themes in the nature of cancer-related information exchanged on personal Facebook pages, and two oncology experts independently evaluated the scientific accuracy of each post. Results: Of the 15,852 total posts, 171 posts contained medically-oriented cancer information. The most frequent type of cancer information exchanged was information related to treatment protocols and health services use (35%) followed by information related to side effects and late effects (26%), medication (16%), medical care-giving strategies (13%), alternative and complementary therapies (8%), and other (2%). Overall, 67% of all cancer information exchanged was deemed medically/scientifically accurate, 19% was not medically/scientifically accurate, and 14% described unproven treatment modalities. Conclusions: These findings highlight the potential utility of social media as a cancer-related resource, but also indicate that providers should focus on recommending reliable, evidence-based sources to patients and caregivers.

Abstract:
Natural gas is one of the world's leading sources of primary energy, and gas exchanges are key players in the natural gas market, which ensure its functioning on a liberal basis. Given the current liberalization trends, exchange trading in natural gas is gaining momentum and importance in this market. The main objective of the study was to determine the institutional preconditions and the main stages of the genesis of the exchange segment of natural gas trade. The study showed that gas exchanges and gas hubs are the key institutions of natural gas exchange trading, as they ensure openness and transparency of the market. As a result of the study, the author identified the following institutional prerequisites for the creation of gas exchanges: the need to form a competitive gas market and ensure its availability to third parties, ensuring transparent pricing and setting the market price for gas, simplification of trade procedures and standardization of products, protection of the execution of agreements and limitation of risks, which is manifested in the security and reliability of supplies and increasing the energy security of the state. Identifying the stages of the evolution of natural gas exchange trading, the author distinguished gas trading on mixed commodity exchanges, gas trading on universal and specialized energy exchanges, which began to emerge slowly in the 1990s, and gas market liberalization, accompanied by a boom in the creation of gas exchanges and gas hubs. The recession of 2008-2009, the shale gas revolution, the process of decarbonization of the economy and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia have been the main catalysts for the modern transformation of the natural gas market in recent decades. The author concludes that the latter will significantly affect the natural gas market in the coming years, which will lead to a revision of European policy in this area and the struggle for energy security. This paper is an original scientific study of the evolution of natural gas exchange trading and makes a certain contribution to the study of the peculiarities of the gas market functioning.

Abstract:
Summary The 1958 Lacy-Zarubin agreement on cultural, educational and scientific exchanges marked decades of people-to-people exchanges between the United States and the Soviet Union. Despite the Cold War tensions and mutually propagated adversarial images, the exchanges had never been interrupted and remained unbroken until the Soviet Union dissolved. This essay argues that due to the 1958 general agreement and a number of co-operative agreements that had the status of treaties and international acts issued under the authority of the US State Department and the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the exchanges could not proceed without diplomatic supervision. This peculiarity puts academic and technical exchanges specifically into the framework of science diplomacy, which is considered a diplomatic tool for implementing a nation state’s foreign policy goals determined by political power.

Abstract:
The slowdown in Russian economy caused a drop in demand for exhibition business services. Operating in the segment of trade fairs organizing companies faced a decrease in the intensity of economic exchanges due to the outflow of customers. The paper considers modification of the exchange management in order to intensify the latter. The research methodology bases the provisions of the theory of bilateral markets, theories of management, marketing and logistics, methods of analysis and synthesis, as well as on the experience of exhibition activities. As a result of the study: the expediency of application by linear companies-organizers of the business model “two-sided market” was justified; the interpretation of business model determined by two-component functional two-stage system was given when the platform (service) is prepared within the linear fragment and then the main fragment turns on — two-sided market, providing intensification of exchanges management by means of asymmetric pricing strategies and network effects. Recommendations are formulated for practitioners who are puzzled by the problem of economic exchanges intensification. The combination of these theoretically and practically significant results develops the theory of two-sided exhibition markets, as well as provides scientific support in the format of recommendations and descriptions of tools that help exhibition business practitioners cope with the problem of managing economic exchanges.

The aim of the research is to analyze peculiarities of cultural exchange between Canada and the Ukrainian SSR in the 1960s and 1980s, which took place during the Cold War. The research methodology is defined by an interdisciplinary approach (history, culture, foreign relations) and is based on general scientific and special scientific methods, first of all, retrospection and historical comparison. The scientific novelty of the research is that on the basis of archival materials determined the forms and content of cultural exchange between the Ukrainian SSR and Canada, in particular its propaganda content. The Conclusions. During the Cold War the cultural sphere became an arena of confrontation, and art (or what was meant by it) became part of ideological propaganda campaigns. Cultural exchange was seen by the Soviets as a way of representing «achievements of socialist culture» to Canadian Ukrainians and as an effective propaganda tool. Formally, on the Soviet side, cultural exchanges were carried out by specially created organizations, which, however, were managed and financed through the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the International Department of the Committee of State Security (KGB). The request to maintain cultural ties with the Ukrainian SSR in Canada was largely due to the desire of the Ukrainian community overseas to maintain spiritual ties with the Motherland. Different approaches to the interpretation of cult exchange – from approval to complete denial – have provoked a lively discussion in the diaspora. Adherents of cultural programs from the Ukrainian SSR were Canadian left-wing organizations, such as the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians. The League of Liberation of Ukraine was a categorical opponent of the cultural exchange, whose representatives saw in the artists from the USSR Soviet emissaries called to «destroy» the Ukrainian community in Canada. Organizations within the Ukrainian Canadian Committee (UCC) condemned cultural exchange as a one-sided tool of Soviet propaganda, but viewed cultural ties as a way to influence Soviet artists. Because of one-sided Soviet cultural infiltration, on several occasions the UCC voiced its protest against Canada’s cultural exchanges with this country. Ukrainian Canadian artists, choirs and dance ensembles are not permitted to perform in Ukraine unless they were politically acceptable to the Soviet authorities.

Abstract:
The geographic reach and international integration of modern mathematics expanded dramatically in the wake of the Second World War. I examine the political and logistical achievement of intercontinental mathematics in this period by following the travels of José Luis Massera of Uruguay, Leopoldo Nachbin of Brazil, and Laurent Schwartz of France. The interlocking efforts of mathematicians and bureaucrats in universities, governments, philanthropies, and new postwar formations like the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to build mathematical institutions in Latin America operated with partial information, competing prerogatives, and costly exchanges of materials and personnel, each of which reflected the shifting economic and political constraints of the global Cold War. Drawing primarily on fellowship files and institutional archives, I situate these undertakings in the mechanics and ideals of twentieth-century scientific colonialism, development, and modernization. I explain how the seemingly nontechnical bases for such exchanges related to the specific mathematics being taught and researched by accounting for the particular success of Schwartz’s theory of distributions in Latin America, which owed both to circumstantial coincidences and to a mixture of several of the theory’s superficial, technical, and conceptual features. My analysis stresses the complex, ambivalent, but nonetheless consequential personal and institutional negotiations underwriting midcentury intercontinental mathematics while pointing to the importance of such phenomena for explaining the form and effects of the period’s broader array of global scientific exchanges.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the relationship between national stock markets of China and the United States which results in conclusion about prevalence of indirect psychological connection between them. It also considers the issues related to future prospects of Chinese companies on the US stock exchanges and the risk of their delisting in the context of sharp aggravation of Sino-American relations and active actions of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), aimed at tightening the requirements for auditing, financial reporting and data disclosure by the US-listed foreign companies. The process of forming a new regulatory framework for delisting Chinese companies with adoption of the core Holding Financial Companies Accountable Act (HFCAA) is disclosed. The IPO scheme by Chinese companies through variable interest entities (VIE) is reflected, and related risks are identified. The competitive potential of national stock exchanges in terms of attracting Chinese IPOs is analyzed with conclusion about significantly stricter requirements and lengthy procedures on Chinese exchanges in comparison with American ones. It is assumed that presently the mass delisting of Chinese companies from American exchanges seems an unlikely scenario. At the same time, the full range of delisting scenarios is considered from the most preferred option for investors (conversion of American securities into shares on Chinese exchanges) to the worst (freezing of shares for an indefinite period). The article was prepared within the project “Post-crisis world order: challenges and technologies, competition and cooperation” supported by the grant from Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation program for research projects in priority areas of scientific and technological development (Agreement № 075-15-2020-783).

This study seeks to understand the nature of research communications during the global crisis that occurred due to COVID-19. The velocity of the current knowledge delivery patterns vs the information reliability is considered. The instruments of open science are revealed, the open access to the research results being the most important among them. The academic research networks, citizen science patterns, online and offline research conferences are under consideration as well. The existing academic communications, training, and exchanges are interconnected with the problem of massive carbon footprint. For Russia, the new principlesof knowledge dissemination carry the possibility of increasing the visibility of domestic science even while maintaining the current level of scientific productivity. In order to reach higher visibility Russia has to participate more in global scientific exchanges.

Abstract:
“Naturally, everyone would like to get their hands on kuru brains,” wrote D. Carleton Gajdusek in 1957. A young medical scientist, Gajdusek was writing from his bush laboratory in the eastern highlands of New Guinea, and he had in mind the competition among pathologists in Melbourne, Australia, and Bethesda, Maryland, for the valuable specimens. But he may also have considered his own recent transactions with the Fore people, afflicted with what he thought was the disease of kuru, and on whose hospitality he was then relying. Blood and brains, the germinal objects of his field research, were richly entangled in local community relations and global scientific networks; they could convey one meaning to the Fore, another to Gajdusek, and yet another to laboratory workers in Australia and the United States. These objects could be exchanged as gifts or commodities in different circumstances, or on the same occasion the different parties might confuse gift exchange with commodity transaction. At times, the scientist would try to obtain goods through barter, or even to appropriate them; and, then again, he might find that what he wanted was out of circulation altogether. In the field, Gajdusek had become enmeshed in a complex and fragile web of relationships with the Fore in order to acquire specimens that, through further exchanges with senior colleagues, might yet make his scientific reputation.

Abstract:
AbstractLadle refining plays a key role in achieving the quality of the steel since in this reactor temperature and chemical composition is adjusted, elimination of non-metallic inclusions is performed, and also deoxidation and desulphurization are operations taking place in the refining process. Specifically, the metal-slag mass exchanges have not received much attention through scientific studies. In this work, a rigorous study on the mass exchange between metal and slag is presented through a scaled water physical model. In the model, thymol (playing the role of a solute such as sulfur) is added to the water (playing the role of steel) and silicon oil (playing the role of slag) picks up the thymol, while the ladle is agitated with the central injection of gas. The evolution of thymol concentration in time was measured. Also, a mathematical model was developed and cast into the commercial CFD code Fluent Ansys to represent the fluid flow phenomena and the mass transfer through the solution of the continuity equation, the turbulent momentum conservation equations and the species mass conservation equation. There is a good agreement between the measured and the computed results regarding the thymol concentration evolution in water and consequently the mathematical model was validated regarding the mass species metal-slag exchanges and it may be used to study metal-slag exchanges in the steel ladle such as deoxidation or desulphurization.

This current issue of the Canadian Journal of Sociology studies the dissemination of social science and humanities (SS&H) national literature. Contemporary scientific exchanges—thanks to technology—are instant and global, and the pace of scientific production and dissemination has accelerated like never before in history. What are the consequences of these dramatic transformations for researchers working in SS&H? Two key vehicles for the dissemination of scholarly knowledge in those fields—journal articles and book reviews—are explored here. In particular, how do national journals fare in the new digitalized and globalized era?

Abstract:
Water is a vital resource for citizens’ economic and social development. However, the uses to which it can be put often conflict. Possible solutions to mitigate disputes involve political options, scarce economic resources, and the search for mechanisms to ensure its adequate allocation. For over half a century, countries such as Australia, Spain, Chile, and the western states of the United States have been considering the possibility of using markets for rights of use. They are defined as formal or informal trading exchanges of rights, whose aim is to improve efficiency, ensure security of supply, and make allocations more flexible. In this context, the aim of this article is to show a current picture of the scientific production related to Water Markets using the comparative bibliometric study of the documents indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases as a tool. The advanced search of relevant terms resulted in the retrieval of 261 papers from WoS and 305 from Scopus, with a time limit of 2020, which make up the ad hoc basis of the analysis. From this basis, it can be deduced that the subject of the Water Market has been present in the scientific literature on a more or less regular basis since the beginning of the 1990s. However, it has emerged as a topical issue in recent years, being in a phase of exponential growth, which means that interest in the area is likely to continue in the coming years.

Abstract:
Introduction. The low development level of commodity exchange trade in Ukraine remains a rather acute issue in the domestic economy for a long time. This indicates the need to find new ways to improve the activities of exchanges. The purpose of scientific research is the development of theoretical and methodological aspects of the formation of the organizational and economic pricing mechanism in the commodity exchange market. Results. The essence and the main functions of the price are defined. The economic indicators of efficiency are characterized, which are defined on the basis of the price. Features of market pricing are given. The pricing methodology is outlined. It is established that the pricing mechanism is based on the interaction of supply and demand. The role of legislative and executive bodies in setting and regulating prices through pricing policy is outlined. The methodical aspect of pricing is described. The price model and price methods are determined. The influence of tactical and strategic factors on price dynamics is substantiated. It is proved that companies must use both factors to succeed in the market. The foreign practice of regulation on the basis of price mechanisms is described. This approach helps the company choose the most favorable strategy in the market. The characteristics, features and differences of the cash and futures markets are given. It is determined that commodity exchanges act as a price barometer. It is established that pricing is the main task of commodity exchanges. Determined prices for goods are made public, this information is open to buyers and sellers. The role of international exchange trade is described in the formation of world prices at specific world trade centers. The tools for quantitative assessment of changes in the dynamics and level of world prices are identified. The essence and purpose of exchange quotation are determined. Conclusions. Exchange trade determines the level of commodity prices. Published information on price dynamics allows to make decisions in the process of trade relations between seller and buyer. The exchange helps to concentrate supply and demand within world trade centers. Exchange trade significantly affects the prices of agricultural products. Keywords: commodity exchange, economic mechanism, exchange market, world trade centers, price regulation, agricultural products.
