Abstract:
Scientific and research periodicals play an extremely important part in popularizing (and promoting) results of research studies, though this role is not equally appreciated across different domains of science. This becomes apparent if we compare the number of traditional and electronic titles of periodicals in such disciplines as medicine, natural science and exact science on the one side, and those that represent the humanities, broadly understood, on the other. The advantage of electronic content in the former group is overwhelming. Nowadays, we use two terms in relation to periodicals available online and launched on the electronic platform. The terms make a distinction between a degree of their involvement in the cyber space. “Digitalization” means a certain transitory state between traditional periodicals in print and virtual publications; in other words, a product of “digitization” is an electronic copy (e.g. a scanned text) of a text originally published in print, whereas the notion of “digital authorship (the author as digital producer), in Polish: cyfryzacja” deals with an entirely electronic publication with specific properties underlined by multimedia and hypertext capabilities. Digital research information as an entirely new quality has not been yet appropriately appreciated. The history of education as a discipline of research does not have its own electronic platform that would offer peer-reviewed research papers in Open Access (OA), e-books or electronic document repositories. For the time being, the most recent Polish periodical within this discipline, i.e. Biuletyn Historii Wychowania, has only a front page, ToCs and a masthead available online, without access to full-text electronic content.

Abstract:
This article discusses serialised novels published before 1918 in the Polish émigré press in the United States of America. These works were a popular feature of dailies and weeklies, but the periodicals’ regular financial difficulties meant that it was books published several years or indeed several decades earlier in Europe which were most often serialised. Consequently, most of the works that appeared in the periodicals failed to reflect contemporary literary trends while also overlooking subjects relevant to the everyday lives of Poles abroad. Still, the prevailing patriotic and historical themes complemented the values that many editorial boards subscribed to.

Abstract:
The main directions of the International Conference «STI 2017: Open indicators: innovation, participation and actor-based STI indicators» (Paris, 6-8 September 2017) were the following according to the author's opinion: survey of geographical features, patterns of the science development and a choice of adequate indicators to evaluate these features and patterns; as well as development of new methods for data processing, sharing, analysis and use to assess science and technology. As the conference was held in the format of 4 parallel sessions being carried on simultaneously, the author was compelled to choose the presentations closest to his interests, namely, presentations on scientometrics and related issues. Such a choice was not subjective, because the author being an employee of the Belarusian National Technical University Scientific Library, is engaged in evaluating research activity of scientific organizations and universities (which have long been regarded as an objective of research libraries by serious library specialists of Belarus and Ukraine), as well as of scientific periodicals, and therefore is most interested in information about indicators of research activity of scientific organizations and universities and, especially, about indicators of value and quality of academic periodicals. The presentations that the author has managed to listen to and the discussions that he participated in, transferred via this mini-review seem to be helpful in further bibliometric studies conducted in the Belarusian National Technical University Scientific Library and to be of an interest to the readers of the journal.

Abstract:
Although policy studies frequently focus on legislation, researchers should not overlook the importance of regulations in their analyses. This article introduces policy researchers to a variety of online data sources available for studying federal regulatory policy. Sources range from electronic versions of federal periodicals to online repositories of public comments to more interactive Internet resources, all of which provide rich data for understanding regulatory policy. This article also explores how qualitative methodologists have conceptualized online research methods and provides a template for an online data source research protocol that may be useful for policy researchers. Finally, this article uses the U.S. Department of Education’s Borrower Defense Rule as an application case to illustrate how to make use of online data sources in regulatory policy studies.

Abstract:
A Review of: Turcios, M. E., Agarwal, N. K., & Watkins, L. (2014). How much of library and information science literature qualifies as research? Journal of Academic Librarianship, 40(5), 473-479. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.acalib.2014.06.003 Objective – To determine how much of the literature in a library and information science (LIS) periodical collection qualifies as research. Design – Content analysis. Setting – The LIS periodicals collection of an academic library that supports an established LIS graduate program at a college in the United States of America. Subjects – Of the 177 identified periodicals with LIS content that fell within project scope from the local collection, researchers analyzed 101 journals that include academic/scholarly content and an additional 4 journals with relevant trade content. This study excluded open access (OA) journals. Methods – Using the most recent issue of each subject journal from the fiscal year 2012-2013, the authors performed a content analysis on all indexed content items, and then classified each content item as research or non-research. For content identified as research, researchers identified the research method (or methods) used. The data collection tool also captured identifying information and keywords for all content. Main Results – Within the journals meeting the scope of this study, researchers identified 1,880 articles from 105 individual journal issues. Only 16% (n=307) of articles met the authors’ established definition to qualify as research. Within the subset of research articles, the authors further identified 45% (n=139) that used a single research method. An additional 36% (n=112) of identified research articles used two research methods and 15% (n=46) used three methods, with the remainder using four or more methods. Surveys were the most frequently used research method, accounting for 49% (n=66) of the single method studies. The researchers discovered that surveys remained popular even in mixed-method studies, with 21% (n=117) of all identified research articles using surveys. This is closely followed by 20% (n=109) of studies reported as using the general category of “other” methods, for research that did not meet one of the predefined methods. The next two most popular identified methods were case studies at 13% (n=73), followed by content analyses at 13% (n=71). For the eight other research methods identified, none saw a frequency above 10%. Focus groups and usability studies tied for the least frequently used method among the 307 articles, both at 2% (n=9). The keyword analysis focused on two categories, one for research article keywords and another for non-research article keywords, for all 1,880 articles identified. Non-research articles had less reliance on keywords, with authors reporting keywords appearing on 73% (n=1156). Within these, authors discovered 120 separate keywords used 10 or more times across non-research articles. The top ten keywords among non-research articles were reported as primarily related to books and publishing, with “non-fiction,” “adult,” and “libraries” as the top three. By comparison, research articles heavily favour the use of keywords, with 94% (n=290) of research articles having keywords. Analysis of the individual keywords found 56 keywords appearing 10 or more times across research articles. The top ten keywords are primarily practice related, with “information,” “libraries,” and “library” being the top three. When comparing shared keywords across both categories, the same top three keywords reported for research in the previous sentence apply to the collective set. Conclusion – The authors note that the nature and size of the local collection both benefited and limited this study. Compiling and maintaining a comprehensive list of LIS periodicals is a challenging task across a large body of potential sources. Within the resulting periodicals studied, a mere 16% of analyzed LIS literature met the criteria to qualify as research, and that only after the study had eliminated virtually all trade periodicals from the population. Had that trade literature been included, the percentage qualifying as research would have been even lower. The popularity of surveys as a research method among LIS research reflects other recent findings, though the frequency of studies falling into the general “other” category suggests that LIS research is changing. Based on this research, the authors conclude that there is still much to be learned from content analysis of literature published in LIS periodicals. Future analyses could further examine the frequency of research methods used within LIS research.

Abstract:
The main objectives of this research are: to summarize the studies in women’s press carried out by Ukrainian and Russian scientists in the late XX and early XXI centuries; to identify the main trends in research on this issue; to identify the common and different trends in Ukrainian and Russian studies; to define the ground for strengthening research interest to a segment of women’s press. The source base for this study consists of the Ukrainian and Russian dissertations, monographs and research articles. Methods. For this study the authors used the following methods: bibliographic; methods of comparison and classification; theoretical-typological and historical-typological methods; secondary analysis of data derived from other studies. Within the bibliographic review we analysed the academic works by Ukrainian and Russian scientists, who explored the women’s press. With that, the main focus was on those scientific works, which significantly contributed to the studies in women’s press or strongly indicated the formation of new trends in the relevant research process. The following electronic resources were used as the main source to find academic publications devoted to the women’s press: “Elibrary.ru”, “Man and Science – Library of Dissertations on Humanitarian Sciences”, “Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine”. The scientific papers devoted to the studies in women’s press were classified in accordance with the issues they mainly focused on. The papers were presented in chronological order, within the corresponding thematic areas. Comparison and classification methods were used to identify the similar and different trends in development of the studies in women’s press in Ukrainian and Russian science. Theoretical-typological method made it possible to correlate the research results with the typological conceptions of women’s periodicals. Historical-typological method was used to show the role of contemporary studies in the history of women’s press. Results and Conclusions. A bibliographic review of Ukrainian and Russian academic works dedicated to women’s press was performed. The authors analyzed research papers of the late XX and early XXI cent.; identified the main trends in research on this issue; found common and different trends in Ukrainian and Russian studies; defined the ground for strengthening research interest to a segment of women’s press. At present, the women’s press is a subject of many humanities studies in Ukraine and Russia; women’s periodicals are studied by philologists, historians, sociologists, in cultural studies. The strengthening of research interest to the field of women’s periodicals in Ukraine and Russia was mainly stimulated by the following factors: the developments in socio-political situation that influenced the system of media as a whole; and the expansion of women’s press segment, strengthening of its economic significance and of its impact on the audience. Some similar trends are observed in the development of women’s press in two countries that stipulates the similar trends in research on this subject. Scientists of the both countries mostly conduct the theoretical-typological, historical-typological, philological, gender, linguistic and sociological analysis of the women’s periodicals. Developments in the segment of women’s press and changes in its impact on the audience define the key areas of research process. During the first decade of the XXI century, scientists focused their studies on the typological transformation of the system of women’s press and on the developed of classification of the women’s periodicals. Later, the main interest refocused on the impact of women’s press on mental, behavioral and communication characteristics of the audience. The Ukrainian scientists perform better in the scientific theory of women’s press, because their studies are based not only on own theoretical experience, but also take into account the results of Russian colleagues, contributing to the breadth and quality of research, and making it possible to pay more attention to the new areas of research. At the same time, the majority of Russian scientists use in their research on women’s presses a narrower set of academic sources that leads to the certain uniformity and similarity of the results. The generalizations and conclusions of the current research can supplement the theoretical knowledge in the field of women’s press, facilitate tracing the dynamics of research interest on the corresponding subject in Ukraine and Russia, and contribute to the determination of the prospective areas of studies in women’s press.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to report results of a study which investigated the growth of open access (OA) journals across the world with reference to the Asian region. Details of 117 OA journals were collected from the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) to determine the geographic distribution, language of publication and growth of periodical year-wise. The study makes detail analysis of four OA periodical published from India, Iran, Pakistan and Taiwan. Pattern of authorship and contribution according to nature of professional work were analyzed. The study reveals that most contributions were made by teaching professionals in comparison to working library and information officers. Single-authored contributions dominated (44 per cent) in all periodicals of the Asian region, indicating low amount of teamwork/collaborative contributions to library and information science (LIS) research by the authors of this region. To know the subject distribution of articles, the study was limited to 27 subfields within the broad spectrum of LIS. Annals of Library and Information Sciences (ALIS) published in India carried the highest number of articles (165) followed by Journal of Library and Information Sciences (JLIS) from Taiwan. The findings of the study also indicate that there is varied distribution of topics within the Asian LIS literature published in OA journals. Most popular areas of writing among authors in OA journals have been found to be bibliometics, webometrics, research productivity or research methods besides information seeking pattern, information need of users and digital libraries. Design/methodology/approach – To gather data for the present investigation, survey of OA e-journals was made across the Web. The collection of data from OA journals and content was accompanied by searching the DOAJ. After selecting the OA journals, these were analyzed using the descriptions on their content page and key words chosen from each contribution. Selection of additional key words, i.e. words not in the title, was also made. Analysis of this data is discussed in this paper. Findings – OA removes restrictions that exist on access to scholarly information and knowledge, it empowers the readers to read, download, distribute and make use of relevant literature, besides giving authors and their work fairly good visibility, readership and impact. The OA movement is gaining importance and the scholarly community is now realizing that tolled or subscribed access is creating a barrier and preventing their work from wider accessibility and readership. A number of journals across the world are now being published in OA mode. The present study attempts to map the growth of LIS literature in OA journals with special reference to periodicals published from Asian countries. The finding of this sample study suggests that many counties are promoting OA journals. While USA ranks first in publication of OA journals in the world. Taiwan publishes the highest number of articles in Asia. Majority of OA journals are published in English, and English appears to be most popular language for communicating research information. Of the four OA LIS journals analyzed in detail, it is observed that single-authored contributions are most popular. Collaborative contributions to LIS research were not so evident among authors of the Asian community. The teaching professionals or LIS teachers contributed the greatest number of articles, except for the Indian journal ALIS, demonstrating that working professional are more actively involved in writing and they outnumber the teaching community. Contributions from research students in all OA journals have been fairly significant. Research students may be encouraged to publish their master’s and doctoral research work in OA periodicals for better visibility, readership and impact. The study further reveals that ALIS from India and JLIS from Taiwan carried the highest number of articles. While areas like bibliometrics, webometrics and e-resources and OA are most popular areas of writing among Indian authors, information-seeking pattern, information need, digital and virtual libraries have been popular among authors from Taiwan. Webology from Iran has predominant articles on Web study or evaluation and social networking. Universities and LIS need to come forward to take a need-based approach to LIS research, suggesting ways for improving existing LIS services in their respective countries. To get the correct picture of growth of OA journals in the Asian region, more exhaustive and extensive study may be required. Researchers interested to carry further investigation will have to adopt appropriate measures to overcome the limitations mentioned in the study, for example, the source of data DOAJ may not be very extensive to give correct picture of OA journals. It is likely that some journals may not have been included in this directory. Researchers interested to carry further investigations will have to adopt appropriate measures to overcome these constraints. Research limitations/implications – Scope and limitation access to data and timely completion are the two vital factors for the success and accomplishment of the objectives of any investigation. Hence, considering the vast range of literature from every geographical region and limited time to complete research, the present study adhered to the following limitations. The study covers in its scope literature published in the period of five years (accessed from March 28 to May 25, 2011, only). The study includes only those publications/journals contributed by authors in English. The study includes four OA journals having full-text articles in English, abstracts not included. It considers those publications primarily inclined and relevant to library and information services. The study includes only those OA LIS journals listed or included in DOAJ. Originality/value – The present study has been taken with view to analyze the growth of OA journals in LIS with special reference to Asian countries. While several studies have been conducted on growth and publishing of traditional LIS journals, the present study is perhaps an interesting attempt to make a comprehensive review of the phenomena. The finding of the recent study will be of interest to many LIS professionals, researchers and academicians as it demonstrate the growth of OA journals.

Abstract:
This article presents a description of the source base for studying the Russian direction of the Prussian Kingdom's foreign policy on the eve and during the years of German unification: 1851—1871. Taking into account the current state of German and Russian historiography, the author draws attention to the fact that only a comprehensive study of public documents, official correspondence of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both Prussia and Russia, a significant part of which is stored in the archives of Germany and Russia, periodicals and documents of personal origin can contribute to the widest coverage of this topic. The vast majority of these documents has not been introduced into scientific circulation before, so their use will enrich the study of Prussian-Russian relations on the eve of the formation of the German Empire with new information.

Abstract:
Abstract This study explores the representation and use of Victorian visual aids, specifically focusing on how the design of spectacle and eyeglass frames shaped ideas of the ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal’ body. It contributes to our understanding of assistive technologies in the Victorian period by showcasing the usefulness of material evidence for exploring how an object was produced and perceived. By placing visual aids in their medical and cultural context for the first time, it will show how the study of spectacle and eyeglass frames develops our understanding of Victorian society more broadly. Contemporaries drew upon industrialization, increasing education, and the proliferation of print to explain a rise in refractive vision ‘errors’. Through exploring the design of three spectacle frames from the London Science Museum’s collections, this study will show how the representations and manufacture of visual aids transformed in response to these wider changes. The material evidence, as well as contemporary newspapers, periodicals, and medical texts, reveal that visual aids evolved from an unusual to a more mainstream device. It argues that visual aids are a unique assistive technology, one that is able to inform our understanding of how Victorians measured the body and constructed ideas of ‘normalcy’ and ‘abnormalcy’.

Abstract:
Background. The efficacy of acupuncture for acute ankle sprain (AAS) is controversial. This study aimed to critically assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for AAS. Methods. Parallel-group randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included regardless of language or publication date. Participants with AAS were included regardless of age, sex, race, nationality, or diagnostic criteria for AAS. Experimental interventions included acupuncture alone or in combination with traditional therapies. Control interventions included no treatment, placebo, or traditional therapies. The primary outcome was the Kofoed ankle score. The secondary outcomes included visual analogue scale, duration of pain, use of painkiller, ankle circumference, effective rate, cure rate, and adverse events. PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Digital Periodicals, and Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals database were searched to identify potentially eligible studies from inception to September 10, 2020. World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (WHO ICTRP), ClinicalTrials.gov, Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR), and the reference list of eligible RCTs were checked to identify ongoing or unpublished studies. Risk of bias was assessed by the Cochrane Collaboration’s tool. Statistical analyses were performed by RevMan 5.3 software. P < 0.05 indicated statistical significance. Results. Seventeen eligible studies were included for the statistical analysis. There was no statistically significant difference of Kofoed ankle score between acupuncture and Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation (RICE) group ( P = 0.75 ). However, acupuncture could significantly relieve pain ( P = 0.02 ) and increase cure rate ( P = 0.004 ) compared with RICE. Moreover, acupuncture plus RICE could also significantly relieve pain ( P < 0.00001 ) and increase cure rate ( P = 0.01 ) compared with RICE alone. Acupuncture combined with massage could significantly relieve pain ( P = 0.04 ) compared with massage alone. Acupuncture plus Chinese medicine might be more effective for relieving pain ( P < 0.00001 ), reducing the duration of pain ( P < 0.00001 ), and increasing cure rate ( P = 0.0002 ) compared with Chinese medicine alone. Two studies reported no adverse reactions. One study reported that a participant suffered from mild drug-related allergic reaction and was healed without treatment. Conclusions. The findings of the present study suggest that acupuncture may be beneficial for AAS. However, more large-scale and well-designed RCTs are warranted.

Abstract:
Research on the influence of accessibility on land use and landscape patterns is one of the most important subfields in landscape ecology and transportation geography. In this review article, we use CiteSpace and VOSviewer to analyze relevant information, including the number of published papers, highly cited literature, high-frequency keywords, periodicals, and the leading countries conducting research on this particular field. Based on the mapping knowledge domain theory and summarizing method, this research, using an extensive review of the existing literature to analyze the influence of accessibility on land use and landscape patterns, the following conclusions have been reached: first, most of the relevant studies are conducted by applying theories on landscape ecology rather than on transportation geography, and the measure index of accessibility is relatively simple. Second, while accessibility has played a key role in analyzing the interactions between transportation, land use, and landscape patterns, studies on the long-term effect of transportation on land use and land patterns are extremely important. Also, different road types have been found to impose different effects. Third, research on the functional landscape in inner cities has become a significant research focus, particularly with the progress in big data. And fourth, improvements in data acquisition and processing have greatly benefited the field, specifically with recent advancements in GIS and RS technology. However, studies on landscape patterns with regional perspectives have largely been insufficient, especially those conducted over long time scales.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the experience of development of electronic scientific journals in Russia and Bulgaria in the context of general trends of digitalization and transformation of the sphere of science management in recent decades and also the implementation of a strategy to increase the competitiveness of science in the global scientific community, which is reflected in the activities of scientific journals. The main problem that draws attention of the authors is how universal digitalization changes the usual view of science, affecting the development of periodicals, and how, on the contrary, the network form of social institutions of science affects its development, what place such journals occupy in the general view of science. The article examines the potential of journals in Russia and Bulgaria to promote the achievements of scientists, increase the credibility of representatives of individual scientific and educational institutions, meet the requirements of scientometrics, reflect the trends of transformation of the global scientific landscape, and fight against “fake” science. The object of the research is a number of journals in the fields of political science, philosophy, history, cultural studies, sociology, psychology, communications and information technologies published in Russia and Bulgaria, which originated as a network or use the network form as one of the main ones in their activities. The main method used in the study is an expert survey. The guide of the expert interview includes 18 questions in Russian and Bulgarian. A total of 12 interviews are conducted with editors-in-chief and members of editorial boards of 9 Russian journals, and 8 interviews with editors-in-chief of Bulgarian journals. The comparative analysis reveals similarities and differences in the goal setting of creating electronic journals, their advantages and disadvantages, the role of scientometrics, the choice of access forms and technological solutions for communication, and development prospects. The role of electronic journals in the digital socialization of scientists – authors, editors, and reviewers, and in the transformation of the usual forms of research activities of modern researchers is shown. The question of the key role of electronic journals in the fundamental change in the global scientific landscape at the same time identifies the problem of the crisis of confidence in e-magazines related to as with tradition, accepted by the scientific community, and with inadequate understanding of goal setting of electronic periodicals and their differences from print publications.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The use of methods to evaluate cortical activity in neonates has great importance in modern medicine, as it allows the observation and evaluation of several clinical aspects, which guarantees that the health team has knowledge about possible intervention measures that may be necessary in the treatment of newborns. Objective: This systematic review aimed to compare the main technologies available for the evaluation of brain functions in neonates, among them: the conventional electroencephalogram (EEG), the amplitude-integrated electroencephalogram (aEEG) and the geodesic sensor net EEG. Methods: A search was conducted forarticles from national and international periodicals included in the Web of Science, LILACS, SciELO and Medline electronic databases. Results: The search found 39 among 155 articles of interest and the analyses indicated that, in the clinical environment, the use of both conventional EEG and aEEG is highly recommended, as the combination of their functions allows, for example, a greater number of subclinical seizures to be detected. Conversely, the use of a geodesic sensor net EEG could be of great value, as it allows a large amount of data to be analyzed. Conclusion: This analysis may be useful in studies and research related to diseases and symptoms, such as seizures, a current challenge for neonatal neuromonitoring, as well as aspects of neurological development and functional studies. However, despite many advances in technology, electroencephalography in preterm neonates remains a challenge worldwide and still requires more robust research and efforts towards the best clinical assistance in this extremely early stage of life.

Abstract:
Organisms use incomplete information from local experience to assess the suitability of potential habitat sites over a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Although ecologists have long recognized the importance of spatial scales in habitat selection, few studies have investigated the temporal scales of habitat selection. In particular, cues in the immediate environment may commonly provide indirect information about future habitat quality. In periodical cicadas ( Magicicada spp.), oviposition site selection represents a very long-term habitat choice. Adult female cicadas insert eggs into tree branches during a few weeks in the summer of emergence, but their oviposition choices determine the underground habitats of root-feeding nymphs over the following 13 or 17 years. Here, field experiments are used to show that female cicadas use the local light environment of host trees during the summer of emergence to select long-term host trees. Light environments may also influence oviposition microsite selection within hosts, suggesting a potential behavioural mechanism for associating solar cues with host trees. In contrast, experimental nutrient enrichment of host trees did not influence cicada oviposition densities. These findings suggest that the light environments around host trees may provide a robust predictor of host tree quality in the near future. This habitat selection may influence the spatial distribution of several cicada-mediated ecological processes in eastern North American forests.

Abstract:
This article explores the reception of the Decadent artist Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898) in Russia concentrating on new gendered meanings acquired by ‘Beardsleyism’ in modernist Russian culture. While the so-called ‘Beardsley Woman’ became a widely discussed literary construct and journalistic trope in Britain, the imagination of Russian artists and literati was captured by a ‘Beardsley Man’. Due to the circulation of the artist's portraits and descriptions by modernist periodicals such as Sergei Diaghilev's Mir iskusstva (1899–1904), a specific form of male (self-)representation emerged in the homophile art circles of St Petersburg and Moscow. Exploring this new urban Russian masculinity, I use the case studies of four men who were compared to Beardsley or used Beardsley as a model in their work and self-fashioning: artist Nikolai Feofilaktov, poet Georgii Ivanov, writers Mikhail Kuzmin and Iurii Iurkun.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Background Intergenerational interaction is the communication which occurs between people from two or more generations and known benefits include improved psychological wellbeing and decreased social isolation. Intergenerational programs therefore have the potential to decrease risk of loneliness for older people. Public spaces are accessible and open for use to all people, irrespective of age or ability, and are therefore an important environment to consider for intergenerational interaction development. The aim of this review was to identify factors which impact non-familial intergenerational interaction within public spaces. Methods An integrative review of qualitative and quantitative peer reviewed literature was completed, from inception through January 2019. Academic Search Complete, Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, CINAHL, Science Direct, SCOPUS, Social Sciences Citation Index and Web of Science were searched. The search yielded 488 articles, 16 of which were included. Research studies were critically appraised using the Crowe Critical Appraisal Tool and key data were extracted and synthesised to identify the factors which impact non-familial intergenerational interactions in public spaces, through a method of constant comparison analysis. Results Three key themes were identified: ‘Comparing naturally occurring non-familial intergenerational interactions with structured intergenerational programs’; ‘Barriers to non-familial intergenerational interactions in public spaces’ and ‘Successful non-familial intergenerational interaction achieved through shared activity’. Conclusion The findings highlighted that structured intergenerational programs have a greater chance of facilitating positive intergenerational interaction, as the presence of a group facilitator directly enabled non-familial intergenerational interactions. Successful non-familial intergenerational interactions were achieved through shared experiences of fun and meaningful activities. Barriers to non-familial intergenerational interaction in public space included lack of opportunities, negative attitudes held of different generations, age stereotypes and age segregation. Older people have the potential to benefit most from non-familial intergenerational interaction, due to increased risk of loneliness and high participation rates in non-familial intergenerational interactions in public spaces.

Abstract:
Introduction. The paper analyses the Russian public sphere during World War I. Special attention is paid to the peculiarities of the functioning of the periodical press under the conditions of military censorship. The paper demonstrates how censorship restrictions regulated the discussion of issues that were of special political importance and transformed the publicity regime in the country. Methods and materials. The presented work is based on the principles of historicism and objectivity. The methodological framework for writing the article is the public sphere model proposed by J. Habermas, as well as special methodological approaches developed in the works of N. Luhmann. With a view to understanding and analysing the processes taking place in the public sphere, the research method of case studies is used. The source base of the study, in addition to publications in periodicals, consists of official documents regulating the activities of military censorship institutions in Russia. Analysis. The study reveals and demonstrates the possibilities of the periodical press to create a special sphere of publicity in the country through the information impact on the population. The article states that the press at the early stage of World War I did not differ in the variety of opinions, made no attempt to develop an objective overview of what was going on. First of all, the issues of the “fair war” and “inevitable victory” were brought up, which fueled the atmosphere of patriotic euphoria. At the same time, the military censorship suppressed any attempts to discuss the possibility of making peace between belligerent countries, even if they came from the supporters of military conflict, as it was the case with the article by P.A. Sorokin. The same trend was observed both in 1915 and 1916. Mentioning peace on the pages of the periodical press was equated with violations that the enemies could use to their advantage. Results. Thus, the press acted as only one, albeit very important, element of the public sphere within which the formation of public opinion took place during World War I. The mechanisms of the public sphere fulfilled one of the key tasks: due to its influence the population was mobilized in all areas of its practical activity. At the very beginning of the war, the press stood in solidarity with the authorities regarding the inevitability of the future victory of Russia and the need to protect the Fatherland from enemy attacks. The question of the duration of hostilities and the advent of peace was more complicated. However, as the war continued and the internal political crisis grew, the attitude towards the early conclusion of peace was changing, gradually transforming into hatred of all the actors of the war in the public sphere, with its own authorities taking the place of the enemy governments. Throughout the war, the pressure on the media by the censorship striving to maintain a pro-government publicity regime increased. However, at some point the transformation of the public sphere became irreversible and in many ways predetermined the events of 1917. The authors’ contribution. E.А. Antyukhova has defined the methodological approaches to the interpretation of the documents of the periodical press of World War I in terms of the public sphere, demonstrated its possibilities in the formation of public opinion. V.F. Blokhin has analyzed the existing points of view in the domestic and foreign historiography on the features of the functioning of the periodical press under the conditions of World War I, demonstrated the work of military censorship at different stages during the military conflict.

Abstract:
This publication is dedicated to the Russian China Studies in Tianjin by Ivan Innokent’evich Serebrennikov (1882–1953, Tianjin, China) and his wife, Alexandra Nikolaevna (1883 – 1975, San Francisco, USA), who left considerable traces in the literary life of Russian China. He was an active member of the East-Siberian department of the Russian Geographical Society, the secretor of the City of Irkutsk Duma, the minister in the Siberia Government and in A. Kolchak’s Government. His wife graduated from the Irkutsk women’s high school, worked for the “Sibir” newspaper, after the February revolt she was elected as a deputy for the City of Irkutsk Duma. Ivan Serebrennikov and his wife arrived in Harbin in March 1920 intending to go in for literature, researches, studying China. He published some historical works on the civil war history alongside with his memoirs. That period his diaries were not regular, he made notes but occasionally. The obvious reason for that was the spouses didn’t know where to live. In spring 1922 having come to Tianjin both Serebrennikovs started teaching. A. Serebrennikova worked as a teacher of Russian language and literature, she also did lecturing and published her articles in some periodicals. Since 1937 she had been busy with translating Chinese poetry from English into Russian using British editions. The main interests of I. Serebrennikov were in history and orient studies. He analyzed the political and economic situation, prepared materials for American scholars. Some of them – Harold H. Fisher (Stanford Univ., Hoover Inst.), Charles P. Howland (Yale Univ.) – used Serebrennikov’s analyses in their researches. But the main I. Serebrennikov’s work is his diaries which remain unpublished up to now. Since 1931 he had made his notes daily – at first with a straight and beautiful handwriting. Then, after he had got a stroke, the letters became uneven and looked like unreadable signs. At last his wife wrote for him under his dictating. The diaries keep the evidence of many events, such as the civil war in Russia and the beginning of communists’ regime, ethnical conflicts in China, the influence of Japan, USA and other countries. Also, in this article the oriental journal “Vestnik Azii Herald of China” is described.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the press coverage of the development of the educational process in Kyiv in the Central Rada period. The relevance of the study is conditioned by the lack of a comprehensive research of the educational environment in Kyiv in this period with the use of periodicals. The daily Kyiv editions «Nova Rada» and «Kyivlyanyn» have been used as a source base. Being different in terms of materials, methods of presenting information, style of writing and ideological orientation, these news papers covered different issues of education in the city. Qualitative and quantitative analysis, namely content analysis, which is a formalized method of interpreting texts, allows to increase the information content of such an inexhaustible source as the press. In the context of this research, the qualitative and quantitative analysis is useful to study advertising and reference sections of news papers, determined by the consistency and relative homogeneity of the content, with the goal of stating the frequency of indication. With the help of news paper publications, the changes that took place in Kyiv education have been revealed, the factors that influenced its democratization and Ukrainization have been clarified, and the challenges faced by participants in the educational process during 1917 and early 1918 have been identified. The possibility of reconstruction of everyday life of Kyiv students, schoolchildren and teachers with the help of periodicals has been proved. The impact of revolutionary changes on the Kyiv educational environment has been studied through the prism of everyday life, and their consequences for the functioning of educational institutions have been assessed. On the basis of advertisement on the pages of the press, the conditions of admission to higher and secondary schools, the specifics of education, the social and gender component of potential entrants, the introduction of mixed education have been determined.

Objectives To review cross-sectional studies on the prevalence of sleep disturbance in Chinese adolescents and use a meta-analysis to explore the factors that may explain the heterogeneity between estimates of the prevalence. Methods We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis and searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, Scopus, Web of Science, SinoMed, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, and VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals databases from their inception through June 30, 2020. Analysis of the abstract, full-text, and data were conducted independently with uniform standards. Sub-group analyses and meta-regression analyses were performed to explore the associations between prevalence and gender, sex ratio, mean age, area, studying stage, sample size, survey time, response rate, assessment tools, PSQI cut-off, and quality score of the study. Results A total of 63 studies (64 groups of outcomes) were included in our analysis, covering 430,422 adolescents across China, of which 104,802 adolescents had sleep disturbances. The overall pooled prevalence was 26% (95% CI: 24–27%). Adolescents in senior high school (28%, 95% CI: 24–31%, p<0.001) had a higher prevalence of sleep disturbances than those in junior high school (20%, 95% CI: 15–24%, p<0.001). Studies with effective sample size of more than 1,000 and less than 3,000 had the highest prevalence of 30% (95% CI: 24–35%, p<0.001). The prevalence of sleep disturbances was not affected by other factors. Conclusion This systematic review and meta-analysis revealed that sleep disturbances are common in Chinese adolescents, and effective psychological and behavior intervention may be needed to help adolescents solve their sleep problems.

This review considered studies reported in English or Chinese, and studies that were conducted between January 2000 and December 2019 in view of the launch of International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning. The literature search will be conducted by two independent reviewers, and any disagreement will be adjudicated by discussion or with a third reviewer. The two independent reviewers will use the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist for Qualitative Research to assess the methodological validity, following which the JBI standardised data extraction tools will be used to extract relevant data. The JBI meta-aggregation method will be subsequently used to synthesise the data, eventually forming themes, categories and synthesised findings. The final synthesised findings will establish confidence levels based on the JBI ConQual approach.Ethics and disseminationThis review does not require formal ethical review since it is based on available published literature. Findings will be disseminated through publication in a peer-reviewed journal, and, if possible, presented in scientific conferences.

Abstract:
The publication aims to introduce into scientific use the letter written by Russian geneticist Yuri A. Filipchenco. It was sent to the head of the Institute of Experimental Biology, Nikolai K. Koltsov on 29 August 1923. The published document thematically falls within the field of the history of science — Soviet biomedicine — in the early Soviet period. One of the documents attached to the letter was the Yu. A. Filipchenco’s response to the Rejuvenation: Collected papers published under N. K. Koltsov’s editorship in 1923. The collection included works of leading foreign specialists who had studied aging processes and rejuvenation in the second half of the 19th and early 20th century. The popularity of the idea of rejuvenation increased and scientists attempted to achieve it venturing into methods of biology and medicine. Their efforts contributed to the development of scientific disciplines focusing on the idea. By early 1920s, rejuvenation had become one of the most popular ideas — there were numerous publications in periodicals devoted to biomedical methods for preventing aging processes. The major scientific center was Institute of Experimental Biology founded in 1917. Another document attached to the letter was Yu. A. Filipchenco’s review of the work of American geneticist R. Goldschmidt. By contrast to the Rejuvenation: Collected papers, this work directly related to his professional interests, as in collaboration with N. K. Koltsov he took part in institutionalization of genetics and eugenics in the first post-revolutionary years. The unpublished materials deposited in the archives of both scientists are important for history of Soviet science in 1920s. The published document has been found in the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ARAN) in the fond of N. K. Koltsov (fond 450). The letter adds to the history of national genetics and rejuvenation studies in the early Soviet period. It also illustrates some nuances of the scientists’ everyday life, as they are mentioned in the letter. The document is published in compliance with current spelling and punctuation rules. The author’s notes and underlining are preserved. Information on the mentioned persons and works is given in the footnotes. Commentary, preceding the publication of the document, assesses its significance.

Abstract:
In the conditions of the modern world order, studies on gas weapons are increasingly appearing in medical periodicals. To date, self-defense gas weapons and special means, with various modifications of the delivery methods of gas weapon components, which are in service with law enforcement agencies, are allowed to be used. Despite the increasing interest in this issue, the development of diagnostic algorithms for the examination of these patients is not found in the articles. In the presented article, we consider the question of the informativeness of optical coherence tomography for the diagnosis of lesions of the rabbit cornea with gas self-defense weapons in experimental conditions. We have identified changes in the reflexivity of the signal from the corneal tissues that correlate with the clinical manifestations of eye lesions and their dynamics during therapy. Changes in the structure of the cornea have been confirmed by pathomorphological studies. We have shown that optical coherence tomography is a highly sensitive method of examining the cornea in cases of damage to the organ of vision with a gas self-defense weapon, which allows tracking the development of the lesion in dynamics. Based on the results of the work carried out, it can be concluded that the use of optical coherence tomography for the diagnosis and evaluation of treatment in affected laboratory animals is quite acceptable and effective. Keywords: the eye trauma, gas weapon of self-defense, chemical eye burn, the ocular trauma, non-lethal weapon, optical coherence tomography, oleoresin capsoicin, ortochlorbenziloidenmalonodinitrile, cornea burn.

Abstract:
Background. Whether additional benefit can be achieved with the use of L-carnitine (L-C) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) remains controversial. We therefore performed a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the effects of L-C treatment in CHF patients. Methods. Pubmed, Ovid Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, Wanfang database, Chinese Biomedical (CBM) database, and Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals database (VIP) until September 30, 2016, were identified. Studies that met the inclusion criteria were systematically evaluated by two reviewers independently. Results. 17 RCTs with 1625 CHF patients were included in this analysis. L-C treatment in CHF was associated with considerable improvement in overall efficacy (OR = 3.47, P<0.01), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (WMD: 4.14%, P=0.01), strike volume (SV) (WMD: 8.21 ml, P=0.01), cardiac output (CO) (WMD: 0.88 L/min, P<0.01), and E/A (WMD: 0.23, P<0.01). Moreover, treatment with L-C also resulted in significant decrease in serum levels of BNP (WMD: −124.60 pg/ml, P=0.01), serum levels of NT-proBNP (WMD: −510.36 pg/ml, P<0.01), LVESD (WMD: −4.06 mm, P<0.01), LVEDD (WMD: −4.79 mm, P<0.01), and LVESV (WMD: −20.16 ml, 95% CI: −35.65 to −4.67, P<0.01). However, there were no significant differences in all-cause mortality, 6-minute walk, and adverse events between L-C and control groups. Conclusions. L-C treatment is effective for CHF patients in improving clinical symptoms and cardiac functions, decreasing serum levels of BNP and NT-proBNP. And it has a good tolerance.

Abstract:
Insomnia, one of the most common sleep disorders, is thought to have an adverse effect on cognitive function. At the same time, people with cognitive dysfunction are more prone to insomnia. At present, pharmacotherapy is the main treatment for insomnia, but there are some shortcomings such as poor long-term efficacy and potential dependence. There is some evidence that acupuncture has some advantages in alleviating insomnia and improving cognitive function. This study is aimed at investigating the effects of acupuncture and drugs on cognitive function in patients with insomnia and evaluating the efficacy and safety of these two interventions, providing strong evidence for clinical decision-making. The study will retrieve eight major databases: China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals, SinoMed, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library. Dissertations, conference papers, and ongoing experiments will also be retrieved for supplement. Literature screening and data extraction will be completed by two authors independently (JJ and X-QW). If there were any disagreements, they would be discussed or referred to a third person for adjudication (W-ZW). Authors will use Cochrane risk of bias tool to assess the included studies. The Review Manager Statistical (RevMan) software is used to conduct the statistical process of meta-analysis, and funnel plot is used to evaluate reporting biases. Abstract:
Hiatal hernia amounts to 90% of all diaphragmatic hernias. According to data obtained from large-scale epidemiological studies in Europe and the USA, esophageal hernias may be revealed in 30-40% of the population, 15% among which require surgical treatment. The occurrence rate equals 91% for small hernias, 6% for large hernias and 3% for giant hernias. The article presents a review of literature dated 2011-2020 and devoted to results of operative treatment of hiatal hernia of different sizes. The search for the publications was performed in the following databases: Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, e-library, Ulrich's Periodicals Directory, Google Scholar and AGRIS. There is a large number of methods for surgical correction of diaphragmatic hernia. However, strict indications to their application have not been developed to the date. Alloplasty provides for improvement of the clinical picture and of the patients’ quality of life, but bears quite a high risk of recurrence. To this day, treatment of hiatal hernia frequently involves application of various prosthetic materials with their certain advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, the search for optimal surgical methods for treatment of diaphragmatic hernias of different sizes continues and requires further investigation.

Abstract:
The purpose of this publication is to highlight the urbanization processes of Yakutia in the 1960s through the prism of the ethnosocial development of the indigenous peoples of the North. The article examines the main factors that influenced the formation of the migration landscape of the studied region, re-introduced into scientific circulation the data of sociological studies conducted in the 1970s by the staff of the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the SB Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and gives a modern interpretation of the trends that occurred at that time. The methodological basis of the article was the historical method of analysis of archival data, periodicals, and scientific literature related to the research topic. The use of historical-comparative, historical-system, problem-chronological and statistical methods also allowed the most complete analysis of the processes studied. Based on the collected materials, the content of the urbanization processes that took place among the small peoples of the North in the 1960s was revealed for the first time and it was revealed that at that time their manifestation was expressed in the penetration of elements of urban life, including infrastructural and social innovations into the daily life of rural communities, and not in their migration activity and moving to larger settlements. It is indicated that these trends were the result of the state policy on the consolidation of collective farms, which caused a change in the general settlement structure in the republic and the active industrial development of the region, which caused a powerful influx of immigrants from other regions accompanied by an increase in the number of urban settlements. Abstract:
Abstract Alternative logics have been invoked periodically to explain the systematically different modes of thought of the subjects of ethnography: one logic for ‘us’ and another for ‘them’. Recently anthropologists have cast doubt on the tenability of such an explanation of difference. In cognitive science, [Stenning and van Lambalgen, 2008] proposed that with the modern development of multiple logics, at least several logics are required for making sense of the cognitive processes of reasoning for different purposes and in different contexts. Alongside Classical logic (CL) — the logic of dispute), there is a need for a nonmonotonic logic (LP) which is a logic of cooperative communication. Here we propose that all people with various cultural backgrounds make use of multiple logics, and that difference should be captured as variation in the social contexts that call forth the different logics’ application. This contribution illustrates these ideas with reference to the ethnography of divination.

Abstract:
The purpose of the survey study was to characterize the state of affairs in sociohydrology, the concept of which began to actively gain positions in the world in the early 2000s. The publication of 2012 by M. Sivapalan et al. is considered to be the reference in the appearance of a statement about a certain systematic design of sociohydrology. In it, the authors defined sociohydrology as a new science that studies dynamic interactions and feedbacks between water and humans. A significant number of researchers have taken up the idea of new science. Analysis of publications in international journals on topics related to sociohydrology showed that in scientific periodicals during 2012–2020. About 180 articles were published, cited about 4000 times according to the Web of Science. The main content of research in the field of sociohydrology boils down to three aspects: compromise in the interconnected system “man – water”; interests in water resources management; virtual research of water in a connected system “man – water”. However, the scientific hydrological community did not unanimously accept the idea of the emergence of new science. Some hydrological scientists believe that sociohydrology is a field of hydrology. They note that there is a tendency in sociohydrology publications to borrow fashionable syntaxes and popular concepts from other fields, but it does not take into account the previous and current advances in the study of human-water related systems, which have already been obtained in hydrology. As a conclusion to this review article on sociohydrology, one can support the opinion of K. Madani and M. Shafiee-Jood, who note that the valuable contribution of sociohydrologists lies not in their “new science”, models, ambitious statements, but in their persistence and reminding hydrologists of the need to take into account the human factor. With regard to the Ukrainian realities in the context of sociohydrology, or studies of the “man – water” system, practical and scientific aspects can be noted: a) practical – after the signing of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement (2014), a system of integrated water resources management is being implemented in Ukraine by implementing the provisions of the EU Water Framework Directive into the practice of water relations; by 2024, river basin management plans should be developed, which to a certain extent take into account the interrelated manifestations of the linked system “man – water”; b) scientific – Ukrainian scientists need to use the world experience in applying research methods to integrate hydrological and socio-economic aspects of water resources planning, given that there are social, economic and hydrological subsystems in socio-hydrological systems that are causally related; such an approach would allow, for example, to give a clear answer to the question about the significance of the Dnieper cascade of reservoirs for the country.

Abstract:
Os termos da busca incluíram: “Caatinga species and water use efficiency”, “Intrinsic water use efficiency of caatinga species ecophysiology”, “Seasonal dry forest and water use efficiency”. Water Use Efficiency for Caatinga Species: A Review for the 2009-2019 Period A B S T R A C TThis review is divided into two parts: The first seeks to contextualize the aspects related to the climate in the Semi-arid region, and the occurrence of water deficit in its influence of the Caatinga species, and in the water use efficiency (WUE). The second is a systematic review by means of an excerpt for studies developed in the last decade (2009-2019) that sought to understand, how were studies related to the WUE carried out for Caatinga species? How were these exploited? What are the most studied species? In order to carry out this review, a search strategy was used in order to identify articles in which the efficiency of water use has been analyzed for Caatinga species in the period from 2009 to 2019, based on articles: Capes Periodicals, Google Scholar and the ScienceDirect database. The search terms included: “Caatinga species and water use efficiency”, “Intrinsic water use efficiency of caatinga species ecophysiology”, “Seasonal dry forest and water use efficiency”. All works that were not related to native species were eliminated, in addition to duplicates. After this analysis, 20 works were included in total. As a result, it is observed that the largest number of articles published between the years evaluated was in 2015 with 25% of the works. The species of Fabaceae and Euphorbiaceae were the most studied with 42.8 and 10.7%, respectively. The most frequent treatments were those related to water deficit, especially at the leaf level, with information at the ecosystem level being incipient. Information of this nature is important for planning the environment and can serve as a basis for a better understanding of the adaptation of these species to different environmental stresses, so they should be encouraged. Keywords: dry deciduous forest, ecophysiological parameters, environment, resilience, drought.

Abstract:
The main aim of this study was to assess the determining factors, such as storage capacity, water quality and public policies, involved in the publication of scientific articles. It also sought to investigate the influence of Brazilian legislation on particular systems for harnessing rainfall in Brazil. The methodology entailed conductinga bibliographical research of the municipal, State and federal legislation in force in Brazil for the governance of technical standards and the scientific articles about the harvesting of rainwater. A total of 6 technical standards were analyzed, together with 56 legal referrals and 63 articles from national and international periodicals taken from the Google Cloud Platform for Education, SciELO, Science Direct and CAPES, and based on the principal keywords such as a “system for harnessing rainfall” and “rainwater harvesting systems”. The results show that the works that predominated were studies on the qualitative and quantitative features of rainfall and that around 80% of the publications analyzed, addressed/made use of the main legislative instruments with regard to storage, water quality and the construction and operation of systems. All the Brazilian States with the exception of three (Minas Gerais, Roraima and Pará), have at least one incentive policy for the creation or installation of catchment systems, storage and the harvesting of rainwater in the country. It can be concluded that the laws sanctioned in Brazil for rainwater are of recent origin and that they provide mechanisms for offering incentives and ensuring their enforcement in accordance with technical criteria. However, they need updating so that there can be a broader understanding of the question of how policies for the management of water operate in the country.

Abstract:
In this experimental study the characterization of 2 industrial wastewaters, coming from an ice cream production industry (IW1) and a beet-sugar factory (IW2), with respect to their readily biodegradable fraction and denitrification potential, has been performed. To this end physical-chemical and biological characterization methods, both anoxic and aerobic, were used. Moreover a pilot scale SBR fed with municipal wastewater was started to verify the effect of the gradual addition of the concentrated organic wastewaters during the anoxic phase. The SBR was initially fed only with a primary municipal wastewater, then the organic load was increased by adding to the feed, during the anoxic phase, a small amount of the IW1 (second period). Once the initial conditions were restored the load was again raised using the second industrial wastewater (IW2) (third period). With those additions the nitrogen removal efficiency increased from 26% to 50%, in the case of the IW1 and from 23% to 53% in the case of the wastewater IW2, without any negative effect on the global performance of the system. In addition, periodical kinetic studies of denitrification and nitrification in the SBR, were performed.

The scientific topicality. Bibliography as a specific branch of human activity is directly included in the information and communication processes of society, which requires a theoretical understanding of its role and place in the information environment. In this sense, important thing is scientific and practical substantiation of topical issues of bibliography and bibliographic processes on the pages of professional periodicals, which are powerful means of generating and disseminating new knowledge in social and professional communication. An important place in the collection is given to bibliographic issues, among which there are publications of theoretical and practical content, and with the help of their analysis the dynamics of modern bibliographic science in Ukraine can be traced. The purpose is to perform content analysis of publications on bibliographic topics published on the pages of the leading professional publication “Visnyk of Kharkiv State Academy of Culture” to study leading directions in the development of bibliographic studies. The methodology of the research consists in the use of methods of content analysis, generalization and bibliographic method. The results. Content analysis, conducted on publications published in the journal, showed, that 5% of articles are devoted to the theory of bibliography, and bibliography and practical bibliographic activities, and 95% are devoted to library science. The scientific novelty of the article consists in summarizing the thematic characteristics and main directions of research on bibliographic topics on the pages of professional collection over the past 14 years. The practical significance. The research results contain a table with thematic headings that can be used in further research on the chosen topic. The conclusions. Bibliographic publications on the pages of “Visnyk of Kharkiv State Academy of Culture” publication are of a theoretical nature, which indicates a certain gap between the theory and practice of bibliographic activity. The presented brief review of scientific articles allows us to trace the main trends in the development of bibliography and bibliography.

Maslak, Volodymyr, Yevhenii Lashko, and Olga Chencheva. "Theoretical and practical aspects of the identification of the bladed weapon on the example of the SG 98/05 bayonet to the Mauser rifle based on metal science research." History of science and technology 11, no. 1 (June 26, 2021): 191–211. http://dx.doi.org/10.32703/2415-7422-2021-11-1-191-211.

Abstract:
The article examines the studies of the bayonet fragment with severe damages of metal found in the city Kremenchuk (Ukraine) in one of the canals on the outskirts of the city, near the Dnipro River. Theoretical research to study blade weapons of the World War I period and the typology of the bayonets of that period, which made it possible to put forward an assumption about the possible identification of the object as a modified bayonet to the Mauser rifle has been carried out. Metal science expert examination was based on X-ray fluorescence spectrometry to determine the concentration of elements in the sample from the cleaned part of the blade. Analysis of the chemical composition showed that the blade was made of hardened carbon steel alloyed with silicon, chromium, manganese, nickel and copper. Measure results of the chemical composition of the object correspond to steel for castings of grade 55L with an average blade hardness of 42 HRC. Manufacturing technology of the casting corresponds to the end of the XIX – the beginning of the XX century with the use of converter production. The bayonet blade was subjected to strengthening heat treatment in the form of hardening and medium tempering. Metallographic analysis showed that the research object of blade fragment suffered corrosion cracking between crystals or along the body of grains, indicating a long stay in silty deposits. The identification of the research object has been carried out using applied technologies based on visual inspection with a description of the state of conservation and comparison with the results reflected in scientific periodicals; metal science expertise; determination of weight and size characteristics and their compliance with the original, including experimental reconstruction, which identifies the preserved fragment with the original drawing at the control points. A comparison of the chemical composition of the blade steel and the “Haenel” steel, differing in concentration and additional alloying elements has been made. The remains of the royal monogram imprint of the stamp and the absence of the regimental stamp have become the basis for searching through catalogs of registered bayonets. This allowed the identification of the object under study as part of the German imperial modified bayonet model 1898/1905 for the Mauser rifle, which was manufactured in the period from 1915 to 1918. Prospects for further research are seen in an increase in the number of metal science examinations for more accurate identification of discovered specimens.

Abstract:
Introduction. Contemporary Russian-U.S. relations have reached freezing point, but expert community continues to analyze possibilities and produce recommendations for the Russian policy of the incoming administration. The study of the debate is important not only for the political and diplomatic purposes but also for better understanding of the mechanisms shaping Russia’s image in the United States. Methods and materials. The article provides an analysis of the exchange of expert opinions published in the USA in August – November of 2020, including five open letters published on Politico web site, report of the Atlantic Council and several articles addressing similar themes on the pages of American periodicals. Analysis. Texts of the letters are analyses for their argument and recommendations and compared between each other. The author underlines the difference between the groups of the signatories, depending on their relative experience in working in and on Russia or in the Eastern Europe and suggests correction to the Tsvetan Todorov’ approach to the understanding of links between knowledge about and practice towards the “Other”. Results. The author notes the existence of the centuries-old legacies of the American approaches to Russia: similar descriptions of Russia persist from the late 19th century to 2020. He also highlights an absence of a Russian position in the debate, while positions of Eastern Europeans and Ukrainians were provided by separate letters.

Abstract:
Összefoglaló. Bevezetés: Az időalku (time trade-off) egy nemzetközileg széles körben alkalmazott életminőség- és egészséghasznosság-mérési módszer. Az időalkuval mért hasznosságértékek az egészségügyi technológiák költséghatékonysági vizsgálatakor az életminőséggel korrigált életév (quality-adjusted life year, QALY) mutatószám számítására használhatók. Kevés ismerettel rendelkezünk arról, hogy Magyarországon milyen betegségekben állnak rendelkezésre időalkuval mért hasznosságértékek. Célkitűzés: Célunk szisztematikus irodalmi áttekintés keretében összefoglalni és katalogizálni az időalku módszerrel mért hasznosságértékeket közlő publikációkat Magyarországon. Módszer: 2020 januárjában szisztematikus folyóirat-keresést végeztünk a PubMed, Web of Science és Matarka elektronikus adatbázisokban. A hazai időalku-vizsgálatok többsége megfelel a nemzetközi minőségi követelményeknek. Az időalku módszer alkalmazása javasolt más krónikus állapotokban is, a felmért hasznosságértékek segíthetik az egészségügyi technológiákkal kapcsolatos finanszírozói döntéshozatalt. Orv Hetil. 2021; 162(14): 542–554. Summary. Introduction: Time trade-off (TTO) is a widely used method to assess health-related quality of life and health utilities for economic evaluations of health technologies. Little is known about the use of TTO in the Hungarian context. Objective: To systematically summarize the existing literature on the method in Hungary. Method: In January 2020, we conducted a systematic literature search in three electronic databases (MEDLINE, Web of Science and the Hungarian Periodicals Table of Contents Database). Our inclusion criteria were: (1) original publications, which (2) measured utilities by using TTO, (3) from a Hungarian sample. Results: Nine publications containing seven original studies were included that reported utilities for 23 different health states in seven chronic diseases (age-related macular degeneration, chronic migraine, Crohn’s disease, pemphigus, primary dysmenorrhoea, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis). Sample sizes ranged from 108 to 1996 respondents. Two studies used general population samples, another two used patient groups and three studies used both. Six studies used a form of conventional TTO and one used composite TTO method. The most frequent timeframe was 10 years (71%). The lowest mean utility was 0.34 (uncontrolled pemphigus vulgaris), while the highest was 0.94 (mild primary dysmenorrhoea). The overall proportion of non-traders ranged between 0 and 29% across studies. Conclusions: A growing number of studies are using TTO to assess utilities for chronic conditions from the general population or patients in Hungary. The majority of Hungarian TTO studies have met international quality standards. The assessment of TTO utilities is recommended also in other chronic conditions to assist health technology assessment.
