Abstract:
Background/Aim. Children with type 1 diabetes typically spend one-third of the day in school and they should achieve the same level of diabetes management there as they do outside the school environment. The aim of this study was to identify problems in diabetes management in children with type 1 diabetes at school according to the perceptions reported by children and parents. Methods. This crosssectional survey was carried out at nine public hospitals in Serbia with a cohort of 6-18-year old children/adolescents. The parents were personally informed about the objectives of the survey and the necessity to involve their children. The self-reporting questionnaire included demographic information as well as some questions that helped to evaluate the general situation of children with type 1 diabetes at school. Results. The obtained results show that not all children test blood glucose levels at school (50% of children in the 6-10- year-old age group and 67.3% in the age group over 11 years) and that not all children receive insulin at school (81.1% vs 18.9%, and 57.7% vs 42.3%, respectively). The frequency of severe hypoglycemia was 2.7% in children and 3.3% in adolescents. A high proportion of teachers did not have diabetes training. Conclusion. This brief report about problems in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes at school in Serbia indicates what happens in the school setting and suggests how to improve control of this disease and facilitate the complete integration of children with diabetes at school.

The problem of use of the motor games for the formation of the hoter harmoniously developed personality af the primary school age is considered in the article. The experience of the eminent scientists in the above – entioned problem is analyzed. The theoretical and metho-dologecal foundations of the system of Junior schoolchildren training by means ofphysical education, the general characteristics of the growing organism, the methods of development of the physical abilities, the pedagogical technology of the motor games activity development by means of the motor games are determind. The main modes of the motor games using in the physical culture lessons with junior schoolchildren are distinguished. The condifions of efficiency of the junior schoolchildren training process are defined as well. They have in full to solve the educational and health problems of the lessons, to remove mental and physical train by primary school students, to activate their motor activity. The authors present the results of the study of 122 Slovyansk general school pupils of the 3‐rd – 4-th forms. The possibilities of managment of the motor skills developing process of junior schoolchildren by the means of the special motor games with taking into account the number of repetitions ans rest are determind. It is proved, that the systematic use of sport games suitable varieties for development of motor abilities will contribute to the fomation of the physically healthy personality. The prospects fot futher researches in this area namely in elaborating the system of combination motor games and interactive teaching technologies introduction in the physical culture lessons are outlined.

Abstract:
Providing the evidence-base to establish whether mindfulness for young people is beneficial is undoubtedly more challenging than it has been for adults. First of all there are the practical difficulties in training teachers to deliver mindfulness well. Yet this is what needs to be done; teachers with the class managment and pedagogical expertise are best placed to deliver mindfulness training to students with whom they have built trust. Secondly, it is difficult to measure the outcomes, particularly for teenagers, because unlike the positively predisposed adult participants ofMindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) training, adolescents, particularly if drafted into research at school, are less likely to focus on gaining understanding of the techniques, let alone actually practise them. Thirdly, a Whole-School drive and parental involvement, to promote mindfulness practice, may seem necessary to get students to spend enough time mindfully to see measurable benefits, but may actually have counterproductive effects. Students, parents and even teachers can react badly to such initiatives from leadership, which means any null results from formal studies may not be valid. The upshot of this is that clear evidence may be some time away. In the meantime the low risk of adverse reactions to mindfulness needs to be mitigated through the use of guidelines and training for educators. In search of solutions to the challenges to research validity, randomised controlled trials using teachers (not researchers) who have training and credibility to deliver mindfulness training, will paint a clearer picture of its effectiveness for young people.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengeolaan arsip untuk menunjang akuntabilitas sekolah, hambatan-hambatan apa saja yang dihadapi dalam pelaksanaan pengelolaan arsip untuk menunjang akuntabilitas sekolah, dan upaya dalam mengatasi hambatan-hambatan yang dihadapi dalam pelaksanaan pengelolaan arsip untuk menunjang akuntabilitas sekolah di SMK Negeri 1 Kudus. Sumber data penelitian diperoleh dari 11 informan terdiri dari Kepala Sekolah, Wakasek, K3, Kepala Tata Usaha, Petugas Arsip, Guru, dan Pegawai Tata Usaha. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu kualitatif. Teknik penentuan informan menggunakan snowball sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Prosedur penelitian ini meliputi tahap pra-lapangan, pelaksanaan lapangan, dan analisis data. Analisis data dilakukan dengan cara pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui bahwa pengelolaan arsip meliputi kegiatan penciptaan, penyimpanan, penggunaan, pemeliharaan, dan penyusutan arsip. Pelaksanaan pengelolaan arsip ditemukan tidak adanya kegiatan pencatatan arsip pada setiap penciptaan dan penggunaan arsip, sehingga arsip sulit untuk diidentifikasi, kemungkingan terjadi pendempulan data, dan arsip sulit ditemukan kembali. Hambatan-hambatan yang dalam pelaksanaan pengelolaan arsip yaitu instansi terkait belum mempunyai ruangan dan petugas khusus di bidang kearsipan. Upaya yang telah dilakukan dalam mengurangi hambatan tersebut yaitu pendelegasian siswa jurusan Administrasi Perkantoran dan memberikan pelatihan kepada pegawai Tata Usaha terkait menata arsip sekolah. This study aims to see the process of record management to support the school-accountability, to know about the constraints in implementation of record management to support the school-accountability, and the efforts to overcome any contraints in implementation of the record management to support the school-accountability. This research using qualitative study. The data research obtained form informats namely Principal, Vice Principal, K3, Head of Administration, Officers Archives, Teachers, and Administrative Staff. The techniques of data collection using observation, interviews, and documentation. The procedure of this research include pre-field stage, field implementation stage, and data analysis phase. Data analysis using a data collection, data reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The result of this study is knowing that the management of record includes the creation activities, storage activities, use activities, maintenance activities, and depreciation activities. In the managment of record is not using a registration record on every creation and use of record, so the record was difficult to identify. The constraints in the implementation of the record management have no room and special officers in the record. The efforts in reducing the constraints was the delegation of students majoring in Office Administration and provide training to administrative staff to manage the school-record.

Abstract:
This paper uses data collected for an MA Thesis to explore the effects of slum upgrading on security management in Soweto slums, Roysambu sub-county in Nairobi, Kenya. The study was guided by three objectives to establish social effect of slum upgrading on security management in Kahawa Soweto slums; to examine the economic effect of slum upgrading on security management in Kahawa Soweto slums; and to establish the challenges of security management in the slum upgrading programme for Kahawa Soweto Slums. The study adopted a descriptive research design and random sampling to select 318 respondents (main respondents) and 10 Key informants (K.I). Questionnaire was the main method of data collection while interview was used to collect data from K.I. Data collected was organized, and systematically interpreted thematically by use of graphs, frequency tables, and percentages. This study established the relationship between slum setting and rise of crime and insecurity in Kahawa Soweto slums in Roysambu sub-county in Nairobi, Kenya with 69.2% of respondents agreeing to this count. According to this study, poor roads, high poverty levels, low education levels, poor spatial designs/environmental design of slum area and housing, absence of police station and poor lighting predisposed the slum dwellers to crime and insecurity. According to this study slum upgrade will reduce crime and insecurity, given that special aspects such as improvement in spatial designs/environmental design of urban areas and housing with enhanced modern lighting will significantly reduce crime in slums by eliminating criminogenic and insecurity risk factors. Additionally, improved economic effects of slum upgrading on slum dwellers would build resilience to crime and insecurity. This includes; Job creation, provision of educational facilities such as vocational training institutes (polytechnics), basic education institutions (primary and secondary schools) as well as other skills enhancement institutions. Community empowerment aimed at income generating activities, construction of police station to provide security to the slum dwellers (77%), and construction of better roads (55.3%) were recommended to reduce crime and improved security management in Kahawa Soweto slums in Roysambu sub-county in Nairobi, Kenya.

This importance is even more significant as yacht furniture manufacturing is the second largest cost item in yacht building after engine equipment.Yacht furniture manufactoring has important position in the yacht industry, in the future this importance will be understood better. It is significant to make researches on yacht furniture manufactoring’s technology use, quality, institutionalization, efficiency, employment, added value, branding and design will help to develop and improve our economy. When The Turkish Yacht Furniture Sector is compared to its competitors it has a cheap but qualified workforce and a central location close to all markets. Using results obtained from this study; although companies mostly solve their design and production drawings with architects and engineers in their own design offices, the most important problem is production managment and planning. Also the most crucial problem about production side is that qualified workers do not have sufficient skills. For those problems, the sector should be introduced correctly and yacht educational schools should be increased. In our country, yacht furniture sector which is sub-sector under the yacht building industy that is dynamicly developing in last decate despite the contraction in developed countries.

Las clases virtuales son una modalidad de estudio a distancia que ha sido aplicadas por más de 10 años. Son utilizadas principalmente en universidades para abarcar las necesidades de sus estudiantes que no pueden acceder al sistema presencial. Al encontrarnos en una emergencia sanitaria por el COVID-19, la aplicación de las clases virtuales alrededor del mundo se volvió una obligación para precautelar la vida de los estudiantes. Es por esto que la población universitaria tuvo que adaptarse a nuevas condiciones de estudio como: las clases, trabajos y exámenes en línea con el fin de no detener su aprendizaje. Sin duda, esto desencadenó inconformidades e inquietudes al estudiar por primera vez bajo esta modalidad. En este trabajo se evaluó la satisfacción sobre clases virtuales tomadas el primer semestre del 2020 a estudiantes de la carrera de Ingeniería Industrial de la Universidad de las Américas con edades entre 18 a 20 años. Para ello se realizó una encuesta de 15 ítems los cuales evaluaron las distintas condiciones que se presentaron en las clases virtuales durante el periodo de pandemia, con datos validados por un alfa de Cronbach 0,92. En este trabajo se obtuvo como resultado que gran parte de las personas encuestadas aprobó el software aplicado para la realización de las clases virtuales debido a que es una herramienta de uso intuitivo y de fácil acceso, por otro lado, están en desacuerdo con la modalidad de evaluación del conocimiento adquirido. Abstract:
The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) requires public schools to manage asbestos containing materials. Twenty five years after AHERA was enacted public schools continue to struggle with documenting and managing asbestos containing material assets. In addition, the manufacturing of lead based paint (LBP) was banned over thirty years ago yet public schools continue to have to manage LBP assets with no guidelines specific to public schools. When compared to current civil infrastructure asset management systems, AHERA and the HUD guidelines lack a rating system based on visual inspection data. The development of a condition index algorithm and risk of failure model would provide school planners an efficient management tool to predict the future condition of asbestos containing material and lead based paint assets. As a result, school planners would be able to prioritize maintenance, repair, and abatement projects based on the risk to the indoor air quality of their facilities and more efficiently utilize their limited resources to mitigate such risks. This paper presents initial work toward the development of a visual condition index algorithm and a risk of failure model to support prioritization of maintenance, repair, and abatement projects. The condition assessment categories provided by AHERA and HUD were adapted and incorporated in an evaluation form created to assist in rating the various stages of accessibility, deterioration, and detection of typical ACM and LBP building components. The evaluation form can be utilized by inspection and school personnel when reclassifying ACM and LBP components during semi-annual inspections of their facilities and also ensure the repeatability of the condition assessment and risk of failure methodologies. A risk of failure model was developed utilizing the FMEA process, specifically the calculation of a risk priority number (RPN). Three schools were selected for a field pilot study to develop the accessibility, deterioration, detection, and RPN algorithms and evaluate for repeatability. The algorithms will provide a quantitative and consistent means for documenting the condition and RPN of asbestos containing material and lead based paint assets and allow the condition of these assets to be monitored and reclassified over a period of time.

Abstract:
This study examined the effect of a leadership driven anger management group on angry middle school students. Twenty-five participants from a local middle school were nominated by school faculty to be participants in the study. Twenty individuals participated and eighteen completed the study. The eighteen participants were assessed at pre and post test on measures of anger, anger control and personal relationships. Three research questions were tested: (1) Does a short term leadership focused anger management group reduce youths' overall anger? (2) Does such a group increase angry youths' ability to control anger urges? (3) Does this group reduce youths' expressed anger towards others? Study results indicated that the leadership driven anger management participants showed a significant reduction in overall anger. Although participants in the study had a significant increase in anger control expressed outwardly (AC-O), they did not show a significant internal perception of an increase in anger control (AC-I). Furthermore, results indicated that participants showed significant reduction in their expressed outward anger in their relationships (AX-O), but did not show significant differences in their perception of expressed internal anger in relationships (AX-I). A discussion follows explaining the possible reasons for this discrepancy, as well as limitations, modified procedures, and implications for this study. Lastly, the study completes with recommendations for future research in the field of counseling and anger management.

The purpose of the study is to explore the views of educators with regard to the promotion of female educators to management positions at primary schools in Lulekani Circuit in the Mopani District, Limpopo Province. Specifically, this research sought to identify the factors perceived by both men and women in management positions and those who are not in management positions to be the cause of the ongoing under-representation of women at school management level. At present there are many more female educators at primary schools in the Lulekani Circuit than there are male educators. However, to date in the circuit there are many more male educators occupying management positions at these primary schools than there are females. A qualitative research method in the form of semi-structured face-to face interviews was used in this study to investigate the perceived and actual barriers and challenges which impede the promotion of female educators to management positions at primary schools in the Lulekani Circuit in the Mopani District, Limpopo Province. Twenty participants, who included both male and female educators, from five primary schools participated in one-on-one, face-to-face interviews for the purpose of this study. The sample included educators who occupy management positions (principals, deputy principals and heads of departments) and those who do not occupy management positions. The study revealed that the under-representation of female educators in management position is a highly complex issue which is influenced by factors ranging from women’s lack of confidence, lack of support from colleagues and family, gender stereotyping, family commitments and pressure from conflicting roles. The exclusion of female educators from management positions is matter of concern because, not only does it exclude a significant section of the South African community from participating in decisions that directly affect them, but it also violates the principles of equality and of the creation of a non-sexist society which are enshrined in the South African Constitution. It is recommended that urgent steps be taken by all stakeholders to ensure equal representation of both male and female educators in management positions at schools. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Public sector reform has been around since the 1980s and was a result of criticism against traditional public administration for being too slow and inefficient to address public needs. Although Public sector reform is common in developed countries, evidence of public sector reform has rarely been seen in developing countries. The purpose of this investigation is to determine whether there is any evidence of public sector reform in a developing country such as South Africa. The author divides public sector reform into three categories, namely: new governance, regulatory governance and new public management (NPM). Based on the theoretical information analysed, a list of qualifying criteria for public sector reform is compiled. The author then focuses on the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB), a statutory organisation acting as a service provider for the perishable products export industry and a regulator on behalf of the South African government. The author analyses the model on which South African perishable exports are based and studies the organisation‟s history, strategies, operational structure and its relationship with government. The information gathered is then compared to the list of qualifying criteria compiled for public sector reform. It was found that the model, and specifically service delivery strategies by the PPECB, provides conclusive evidence of new governance, regulatory governance and NPM. It was also found the model is a hybrid between traditional public administration and public sector reform, as it contains characteristics of both. The study takes the form of a literature review. Research was conducted through studying various literatures pertaining to new governance, regulatory governance and new public management. In addition, the author gathered relevant information from within the PPECB, the South African Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) and the export industry. Further information was also collected by means of unstructured interviews with senior individuals employed by the PPECB.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Openbare hervorming bestaan sedert die jare tagtig en het basies ontstaan as gevolg van kritiek omdat tradisionele openbare administrasie te traag en onbevoeg was om openbare behoeftes aan te spreek. Hoewel openbare hervorming in ontwikkelde lande stewig gevestig is, is daar ook bewys daarvan in ontwikkelende lande. Die doel van hierdie ondersoek was om vas te stel of daar enige bewys van openbare hervorming in ‟n ontwikkelende land soos Suid-Afrika bestaan. Die outeur het openbare hervorming in drie kategorieë verdeel, te wete nuwe regeringsbestuur, regulatoriese regeringsbestuur en nuwe openbare bestuur. Op grond van ‟n analise van die teoretiese inligting, is ‟n lys van kwalifiserende kriteria – gerig op openbare hervorming – saamgestel. Die outeur het vervolgens op die Bederfbare Produkte Uitvoerbeheerraad (PPECB) gefokus – dit is ‟n statutêre liggaam wat as diensverskaffer vir die bederfbare produkte uitvoernywerheid en as ‟n reguleerder namens die Suid-Afrikaanse regering optree. Die outeur het ‟n analise gedoen van die model waarop Suid-Afrikaanse bederfbare uitvoere gebaseer is en voorts die organisasie se geskiedenis, strategie, operasionele struktuur en sy verhouding met die regering bestudeer. Die inligting wat ingewin is, is vervolgens met die lys van kwalifiserende kriteria – gerig op openbare hervorming – vergelyk. Daar is bevind dat die model – en spesifiek diensleweringstrategie by die PPECB – voldoende bewys lewer van nuwe regeringsbestuur, regulatoriese regeringsbestuur en nuwe openbare bestuur. Daar is ook bevind dat die model ‟n hibridisering is tussen tradisionele openbare administrasie en openbare hervorming aangesien dit karaktereienskappe van albei bevat. Die studie is in die vorm van ‟n literêre oorsig gedoen. Navorsing is uitgevoer deur die bestudering van verskeie geskrifte oor nuwe regeringsbestuur, regulatoriese regeringsbestuur en nuwe openbare bestuur. Daarbenewens het die outeur relevante inligting binne die PPECB, die Suid-Afrikaanse Departement van Landbou, Bosbou en Visserye en die uitvoernywerheid, ingesamel. Nog inligting is ook bekom deur ongestruktureerde onderhoude met senior werknemers van die PPECB te voer.

Abstract:
This research sought to investigate middle management‟s roles in implementing the new curriculum at grade 10 -12 levels; it involved a small qualitative study of two schools in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands. At a policy level, the role of middle managers at school level in South Africa has changed. The transformation of the curriculum in South Africa placed a need in all spheres of the education system to be flexible and innovative in accepting change. In fact this need for change is mostly required by the middle management of the schools who bear the brunt of working with teachers and learners in implementing the new curriculum. Hence this qualitative study was undertaken to investigate their roles. In investigating the topic the following three questions were considered as of critical importance in understanding middle managers roles in the new curriculum. The first question explored middle managers‟ main roles in implementing the new curriculum. Secondly it explored how middle managers responded to the current reform process at the FET level, and lastly it investigated how middle managers intertwined assessment in implementing the new curriculum. The review of the literature focused on curriculum implementation internationally and locally and also explored the role of the middle managers as leaders and managers in the curriculum implementation process. The study took place in two rural schools and participants included four middle managers (three heads of department and one principal). Data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires and interviews. A selection of documents (planning and teaching documents) was also collected for analysis. In a nutshell analysis revealed that endeavours were made towards the planning process. There was a presence of the subject framework, work schedule and the lesson plan. This indicated that the initial process of designing the learning programmes was being done. However, data revealed that middle managers fulfilled a management rather than leadership function. Their roles consisted largely of curriculum implementation processes at the expense of curriculum innovation and change. Barriers included a lack of time for proper planning and innovation due to a full teaching load as well as a lack of training by the Department of Education in the area of curriculum development and innovation.

Abstract:
An authoritarian and bureaucratic ethos adopted by South African Schools prior to 1994 continues to be adopted in many schools. It may be assumed that with the advent of the new South African democratic government in 1994 there would be more freedom given to schools to adopt different leadership styles that were relevant to their school context. Given the top-down culture and authoritarian leadership structures of schools that were designed and developed during the apartheid era, secondary school principals and school management teams have struggled to adopt a more democratic approach to running a school since 1994. In the previous dispensation, school decision making was mostly not a collective effort, and involved a minimum of consultation and sharing of ideas, with staff not being seen as having the role or potential to positively influence significant school decisions. The national Department of Education (2003) refers to this as “… the entrenched bureaucratic and hierarchical management practices inherited from apartheid traditions.” However, greater choice and autonomy of thought are part and parcel of the democratic paradigm. A comprehensive literature review on the Community of Enquiry (CoE) methodology, a resource developed by Matthew Lipman, revealed a more open and inclusive approach to thinking together and embraces the principals of choice and autonomy. It is proposed that this methodology could be used to help school management teams (SMTs) become more collaborative and democratic in their approach to decision-making. Particular attention will be paid to the democratic values that underpin a CoE, in particular the values of equality, justice and freedom will be discussed with specific reference to the South African context. Bureaucratic, autocratic and democratic leadership styles may be adopted by the SMTs in various schools and each leadership style could influence the decision making process as well as the culture within a school. The CoE methodology could work in conjunction with a democratic leadership style to allow SMTs to be more collaborative and inclusive in the decision making process.

Abstract:

This thesis provides an account of how one primary school in the Capncomia Region of the Queensland Education Department set about implementing Central Office Policy, 'Managing Behaviour within a Supportive School Environment' (1993), by developing their own management plan to deal with the occurrence of disruptive and antisocial behaviour in a school environment. This work presents a basis for critical understanding of strategies for developing such a plan. The study provides a focus from which future policy, professional development and community education programs seeking to improve behaviour management in a primary school may be accomplished. Through a reflective analysis of key issues arising from one school's experience. the study raises questions and experiences that heighten the awareness of the problems and issues involved in school based policy implementation. The methodology employed a qualitative case study framework with a critical interpretive intent. Analysis of the data generated several practical recommendations for the successful implementation of Education Department policy at a school management level.
