Abstract:
Abstract This study aimed to isolate the causal agent of white mold on eggplant caused by the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, and it was examined microscopically and molecularly. The pathogenicity of 16 isolates of the pathogenic fungus was evaluated from soil and plant residues, eggplant and cucumber plants (ScE1– ScE8) and (ScC1 – ScC8), respectively, from fields in different areas of Baghdad governorate of Baghdad (Abi Ghraib/Zidan, Al-Yusufiyah, Mada’in/Tuwaitha and Jadiriyah / University of Baghdad). The results of testing the pathogenicity of isolates of the pathogenic fungus showed that all isolates had a significant effect in reducing the percentage of seed germination compared to the control treatment in which the germination rate was 100%. The isolate ScE2 isolated from eggplant plants significantly outperformed the rest of the isolates, followed by isolates ScE1, ScC2, ScE3, ScE4, ScE2 and ScE5, followed by the rest of the isolates with a significant effect, the percentage of germination for the rest of the isolates ranged between 20-30%. The identificationof the two most pathogenic isolates was confirmed by PCR technology on eggplant and cucumber based on the ITS1 and ITS4 gene. The two isolates were deposited in (NCBI) under accession numbers MZ424307 and MZ424308.

Abstract:
Two experiments were conducted to assess the effects of media pH and mixtures (SCEF) of live yeast [Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC)] and lactic acid bacteria [Enterococcus faecium (EF)] on gas production (GP), dry matter disappearance (DMD), and volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentrations in batch culture using either high-forage (HF) or high-grain (HG) diets. Diets were evaluated in separate experiments, each as a complete randomized design with 2 (media pH 5.8 and 6.5) × 5 (control, three SCEF, monensin) factorial arrangement of treatments. The SCEF had varying ratios of SC:EF: 0:0 (control), 1.18:1 (SCEF1), 1.25:1 (SCEF2), and 1.32:1 (SCEF3), added on a log10 basis. For the HF diet, supplementation of SCEF had greater GP (P = 0.03) at pH 6.5 and greater DMD (P = 0.03) and VFA concentration (P < 0.01) at pH 5.8 and 6.5 than control. For the HG diet, acetate:propionate (A:P) ratio at pH 6.5 was greater (P = 0.05) for SCEF than control. Increasing ratio of SC to EF in SCEF linearly (P < 0.01) decreased GP and DMD and linearly increased acetate percentage at pH 6.5. These results suggest that optimizing the SC:EF ratio in a mixture of SCEF can help improve rumen fermentation.

Abstract:
In this investigation, the terminal double bonds of the side chain epoxidized cardanol glycidyl ether (SCECGE) molecule were further epoxidized in the presence of Oxone® (potassium peroxomonosulfate) and fluorinated acetone. Regular methods for the double bond epoxidation are not effective on the terminal double bonds because of their reduced electronegativity with respect to internal double bonds. The terminal double bond functionality of the SCECGE was epoxidized to nearly 70%, increasing the epoxy functionality of SCECGE from 2.45 to 2.65 epoxies/molecule as measured using proton magnetic nuclear resonance (1H-NMR). This modified material—side chain epoxidized cardanol glycidyl ether with terminal epoxies (TE-SCECGE)—was thermally cured with cycloaliphatic curing agent 4-4′-methylenebis(cyclohexanamine) (PACM) at stoichiometry, and the cured polymer properties, such as glass transition temperature (Tg) and tensile modulus, were compared with SCECGE resin cured with PACM. The Tg of the material was increased from 52 to 69 °C as obtained via a dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) while the tensile modulus of the material increased from 0.88 to 1.24 GPa as a result of terminal double bond epoxidation. In addition to highlighting the effects of dangling side groups in an epoxy network, this modest increase in Tg and modulus could be sufficient to significantly expand the potential uses of amine-cured cardanol-based epoxies for fiber reinforced composite applications.

Abstract:
The physical and mechanical characteristics of seawater coral sand engineered cementitious composites (SCECC) were examined through uniaxial compression, three-point bending, and splitting tensile tests. The mechanical properties were scrutinized under varying fiber volume fraction conditions (V = 0%, 0.575%, 1.150%, 1.725%, and 2.300%). The experimental results indicated that the compressive strength, three-point bending strength, and split tensile strength of SCECC tended to increase with the rise in fiber volume fraction. The strengths attained their maximum values of 45.88, 12.56, and 3.03 MPa when the fiber volume fraction reached 2.300%. In the compression test, the compressive strength of the 7-day specimen can achieve more than 78.50% of that observed in the 28-day specimen. Three-point bending test has revealed that SCECC exhibits favorable strain-hardening and multi-crack cracking characteristics. Fracture patterns of SCECC exhibited variations corresponding to changes in fiber content, as illustrated by their load–deformation curves, the addition of PVA fibers can change the damage mode of cementitious composites from brittle to ductile. The fracture energy of SCECC further attests to its elevated toughness. This is due to the fact that the fibers delay the formation of microcracks and prevent crack expansion, thus significantly increasing the deformability of the material. By verifying its strength, deformability, fracture energy, and other key performance indicators, the feasibility of SCECC in coastal construction projects has been clarified. The successful development of SCECC provides an innovative and high-performance option for the construction of future island projects.

Abstract:
Cardanol is a renewable resource based on cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), which consists of a phenol ring with a C15 long aliphatic side chain in the meta position with varying degrees of unsaturation. Cardanol glycidyl ether was chemically modified to form side-chain epoxidized cardanol glycidyl ether (SCECGE) with an average epoxy functionality of 2.45 per molecule and was cured with petroleum-based epoxy hardeners, 4-4′-methylenebis(cyclohexanamine) and diethylenetriamine, and a cardanol-based amine hardener. For comparison, cardanol-based diphenol diepoxy resin, NC514 (Cardolite), and a petroleum-based epoxy resin, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) were also evaluated. Chemical and thermomechanical analyses showed that for SCECGE resins, incomplete cure of the secondary epoxides led to reduced cross-link density, reduced thermal stability, and reduced elongation at break when compared with difunctional resins containing only primary epoxides. However, because of functionality greater than two, amine-cured SCECGE produced a Tg very similar to that of NC514 and thus could be useful in formulating epoxy with renewable cardanol content.

Abstract:
The main objective of this study is to develop a socio-economic development index (SCECDI), which is composed of social development index (SCDI) and economic development index (ECDI). For the analysis, we have included 14 Islamic countries which are Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and U.A.E for the years 2010 and 2015.Pakistan’s spending on education and health is quite low during last five years on average, while value added agriculture is the highest among all Muslim countries. Meanwhile, spending on health and education in Saudi Arabia is quite high, besides having quite high export value added and capital formation. These are required for better economic development. Highest educational profile is observed in Malaysia, while the employment rate is highest in Kuwait among all. We have diversified the summary profile for all countries of the variables included for the analysis in the study. Expected outcome is that those Islamic economies which have better economic conditions, will have more than 0.50 values for SCECDI, while others may have the value in between 0-0.50. We also demonstrate the importance of SCECDI focusing the dynamic characteristics of all Islamic countries included in the study.

Abstract:
Previous studies have shown that glaucomatous Schlemm’s canal endothelial cells (gSCECs) are stiffer and associated with reduced porosity and increased extracellular matrix (ECM) material compared to SCECs from healthy individuals. We hypothesised that Schlemm’s canal (SC) cell stiffening was a function of fibrotic changes occurring at the inner wall of SC in glaucoma. This study was performed in primary cell cultures isolated from the SC lumen of human donor eyes. RNA and protein quantification of both fibrotic and endothelial cell markers was carried out on both healthy and gSCECs. Functional assays to assess cell density, size, migration, proliferation, and mitochondrial function of these cells were also carried out. Indeed, we found that gSCECs deviate from typical endothelial cell characteristics and exhibit a more fibrotic phenotype. For example, gSCECs expressed significantly higher protein levels of the fibrotic markers α-SMA, collagen I-α1, and fibronectin, as well as significantly increased protein expression of TGFβ-2, the main driver of fibrosis, compared to healthy SCECs. Interestingly, we observed a significant increase in protein expression of endothelial marker VE-cadherin in gSCECs, compared to healthy SCECs. gSCECs also appeared to be significantly larger, and surprisingly proliferate and migrate at a significantly higher rate, as well as showing significantly reduced mitochondrial activity, compared to healthy SCECs.

Abstract:
Single-coil eddy current sensors (SCECS) form a separate and independent branch among the existing eddy current probes. Such sensors are often used for aviation and aerospace applications where the conditions accompanying the measuring process are harsh and even extreme. High temperatures (up to +600 °C in the compressor and over +1000 °C in the turbine of gas turbine engines), the complex shape surfaces of the monitored parts, the multidimensional movement of the power plants’ structural elements, restrictions on the probes number and their placement in the measuring zone are the main factors affecting the reliability and accuracy of the measurement results obtained by the sensors. The article provides an overview of the relevant approaches and methods for reducing the impact of influence factors on the measurement results from SCECS based on the extensive experience of more than 30 years of research and development being carried out in the Institute for the Control of Complex Systems of Russian Academy of Sciences. The scope of the solutions discussed in the article is not limited to SCECS measurement systems only but can also be extended to the systems with primary transducers of other designs or other physical principles.

Abstract:
The earth construction is identified as a green construction by using locally available materials with low environmental impacts and superior thermal performance. Besides all the advantages of this construction material, the casting process can be very time and energy consuming due to the nature of dynamic compaction. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of achieving self-consolidating earth concrete (SCEC) with introduction of its potential challenges and investigating its rheo-thermomechanical performance. As the first challenge, the presence of fine particles in earth, especially clay, can hinder the flowability of SCEC. Promoting the setting time is the second challenge due to the low cement content. The last challenge comes from the diversity of earth with different behaviors which makes it difficult to propose a comprehensive guideline to design SCEC.Potential solutions were introduced to achieve SCEC and address the inefficiency of earth materials. The main objective was to understand the efficiency of different chemical admixtures in presence of various ternary powder systems (i.e., clay, silt, and cement). A new concrete-equivalent mortar (CEM) approach was introduced in the Phase 3. Accordingly, the CEM and concrete mixtures were investigated to verify the feasibility of SCEC. The hygrothermal and microstructural characteristics of the selected SCEC mixtures were investigated. This novel material offers a new microstructural system, hence leading to a different hygrothermal performance compared to conventional earthen materials

Abstract:

Plants have developed a sophisticated regulatory system to adapt to various environmental stresses. The Arabidopsis ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTOR 1 (ERF1) is a downstream component of jasmonic acid (JA) and ethylene (ET) signaling to positively regulate pathogen defense and is also involved in abiotic stress response. We found that ERF1 protein became unstable and was degraded through the 26S proteasome pathway under darkness. A yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) screening has identified 51 proteins that could interact with ERF1. Among these candidates, we were mostly interested in UBIQUITIN-CONJUGATING ENZYME 18 (UBC18) and SUMO-CONJUGATING ENZYME 1 (SCE1) which participate in ubiquitylation and sumoylation, respectively. Pull down assays and bimolecular fluorescence complementation assays were carried out to further confirm the interactions between SCE1, UBC18 and ERF1. When ERF1 and UBC18 were coexpressed in tobacco leaves using agro- infiltration, the increment of UBC18 coincided with the decrease of ERF1, indicating that UBC18 is required for the degradation of ERF1. Furthermore, we found that more ERF1 protein accumulated in ubc18 knockdown mutants, whereas less ERF1 protein accumulated in UBC18 overexpressers compared with that of wild type. These results suggest that UBC18 may mediate ERF1 degradation under darkness. We also found that sce1 knockdown mutants showed stress-sensitive phenotype while ubc18 knockdown mutants displayed stress tolerant phenotype. Taken together, UBC18 may interact with ERF1 to promote its degradation through 26S proteasome pathway in the dark. By contrast, SCE1 may interact with ERF1 to increase its stability via sumoylation in the light.

Changes of light and various stress signals are essential for plant physiological determination. ERF1(Ethylene Response Factor 1) is a component in both jasmonic acid(JA) and Ethylene(ET) signaling, and has been reported undergoing degradation under dark condition. Our previous study showed ERF1 could differentially regulate stress-related genes by binding to their promoters in response to different stress signals. However, the underlying mechanisms of degradation and downstream regulation of ERF1 remain unclear. Here, we confirmed that ERF1 was degraded under dark through 26S proteasome system. Using yeast two-hybrid(Y2H) screening, an E2 ligase, SCE1, and a mediator subunit (At4g25210) were found to physically interact with ERF1. Bimolecular fluorescence complementation(BiFC) assays were carried out to further confirm the interactions between ERF1 and its interacting candidates. Y2H also confirmed the interaction between ERF1 and COP1, which is an important negative regulator and an E3 ligase in light signaling. Moreover, our quantitative reverse transcription PCR(qRT-PCR) results revealed that the direct downstream genes of ERF1, such as delta1-Pyrroline-5-Carboxylate Synthase 1(P5CS1), would be down-regulated under dark. The higher proline level in ERF1 overexpressing plants quickly decreased under dark, which resulted in the less-tolerant phenotype to salt stress in short-day condition. These results indicate that the degradation of ERF1 under dark might be regulated by COP1, and ERF1 regulates the proline level rhythmically by directly activating P5CS1 expression.

Abstract:
Abstract The lexicographical scene1 of a society is a complex thing to describe. A true portrait implies the study of the sociological conditions in which dictionaries are called for, then designed, produced, and finally used. The following questions should be answered: What sort of dictionaries are the most common in that particular society? What sort are rare, or do not exist at all? What dictionaries are remarkable, for their originality, or for their quality? The lexicographical scene of the English-speaking countries, for very obvious reasons, is characterized by the quantity and the variety of the dictionaries that are produced. Probably no other language in the world has produced so many dictionaries of so many different types, and none produces as many at present. In 1969, according to Barnhart (1969: 176), there were more than 60 general dictionaries available on the market. In 1977, Kister described 343 monolingual dictionaries of English available on the American market: this included dictionaries for children, for adolescents, or for foreign students, but excluded not only bilingual or multilingual dictionaries but also terminological, highly specialized dictionaries (Kister 1977). No doubt the figures would be even higher fifteen years later.

Abstract:
This study is an extension of the British OCPM (Optically Connected Parallel Machines) collaborative project funded through the LINK Optoelectronic Systems Programme [1]. In a recent paper, we described the particularities of our project with respect to the OCPM project [2]: the wavelength is the usual telecommunication one (λ=1.55µm), the input and output fibers are single-mode (in order to provide a realistic telecommunication demonstrator). The routing is performed by the key-component, a Silicon Backplane Spatial Light Modulator (SBSLM) [3]. This SBSLM is a CMOS 1µm Integrated Circuit (IC) with Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal (FLC) SCE13 (Merck) on the top. The system forms a 8×8 crossbar.
