Abstract:
Les K. pneumoniae productrices de carbapénémase (CPKp) sont une menace mondiale, avec des taux de mortalité élevés. Les souches cliniques de CPKp présentent une résistance (R) et une hétérorésistance (HR) variables aux carbapénèmes, notamment à l'imipénème. L’HR est visualisée par les colonies à l'intérieur du halo d'inhibition de l’antibiotique. Malgré son importance clinique, les mécanismes de l’HR chez les CPKp sont inconnus. Mon projet de doctorat visait à élucider les bases de l’HR parmi les isolats cliniques de CPKp. La R et l’HR aux carbapénèmes ont été définies pour 82 isolats. Certains isolats présentaient des colonies d’aspect hétérogène résultant de la perte de la capsule par mutation dans l'opéron capsulaire avec un impact sur la formation de biofilms, l'auto-agrégation et la sensibilité aux carbapénèmes. Un lien convaincant avec l’HR n'a pas pu être établi. J'ai montré que l’HR à l'imipénème prévaut chez les K. pneumoniae produisant la carbapénémase KPC (KPC-Kp). Le système ScanLag m’a permis de mettre en évidence, une hétérogénéité de survie des colonies à de fortes concentrations d'imipénème. Le séquençage du génome et le phénotypage des colonies ont révélé la complexité de l’HR de KPC-Kp, qui résulterait d'au moins trois phénomènes : la tolérance, pour les colonies émergeantes précocement, la persistance, pour les colonies apparaissant tardivement et la résistance due à des mutations. La diversité des mutations identifiées dans différents processus biologiques ouvre la voie à de futures recherches sur leur contribution à l'évolution de la résistance et à la survie chez l'hôte et élargissent nos connaissances sur le résistome intrinsèque de K. pneumoniae<br>Carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae (CPKp) represent a global threat, with significant mortality rates. CPKp show variable resistance (R) to carbapenems and heteroresistance (HR), particularly to imipenem. HR is visualized by the colonies within the inhibition halo of the drug. Despite its clinical importance, mechanisms of HR in CPKp are unknown. My PhD project aimed at elucidating the bases of HR among CPKp clinical isolates. Carbapenem R and HR were first defined for a collection of 82 CPKp isolates. Some isolates exhibited a heterogeneous colony aspect resulted from the loss of capsule due to diverse mutations in the capsule operon. Capsule loss had an impact on biofilm formation, autoaggregation and carbapenem susceptibility. Yet, a convincing link with HR could not be established. I showed that imipenem HR prevails across K. pneumoniae producing the KPC carbapenemase (KPC-Kp) and it is associated with heterogeneous survival to high concentrations of imipenem at single colony level, as assessed by using the ScanLag setup. Whole genome sequencing and phenotyping of surviving colonies revealed the complexity of HR in KPC-Kp, which arises from at least three different phenomena: tolerance, corresponding to the colonies emerging early, persistence, corresponding to the late appearing colonies and resistance due to mutations. The diversity of mutations identified in different biological processes paves the way for future research on their contribution to resistance evolution and survival within the host, and expand our knowledge of K. pneumoniae intrinsic resistome

Abstract:
<p>This report is the result of a master thesis at Linköping University - Institute of Technology and Uppsala University at the request of the chassi workshop at Scania CV AB in Södertälje. Since the beginning of the 90's, Scania CV AB has had a close cooperation with Toyota from which, among other things, the Scania Production System (SPS) has evolved. SPS explains Scanias' values, principles and priorities. The Technician department (MST) at Scania Chassi in Södertälje believes that SPS can streamline the technicians work and help them become a more homogeneous group.</p><p> </p><p>The purpose of this master thesis is to initiate an implementation of SPS within MST through two pilot projects involving both the product and process technicians. The SPS principle <em>Normal Situation - Standardised working method </em>was required to be implemented within one work task each for the two groups of technicians with special attention on the three subprinciples <em>Standardisation, Takt </em>and <em>Balanced flow</em>.</p><p> </p><p>The master thesis fulfilled its purpose as the two pilot projects initiated the implementation of SPS within MST and the three sub-principles <em>Standardisation, Takt </em>and <em>Balanced flow </em>were implemented within the two chosen work tasks. An improvement of the new work procedure for the work tasks was also noted.</p><p> </p><p>Following the completion of the thesis, it could be established that SPS can be implemented on almost all of the technicians work tasks, and therefore the chances are good for continuous implementations of SPS within MST.</p><p> </p><br><p>Föreliggande rapport är resultatet av ett examensarbete vid Linköpings tekniska högskola och Uppsala universitet utfört på uppdrag av Chassimonteringen vid Scania CV AB i Södertälje.</p><p> </p><p>Scania har sedan början av nittiotalet haft ett nära samarbete med Toyota ur vilket bland annat filosofin Scanias Produktionssystem (SPS) har utvecklats, som beskriver Scanias värderingar, principer och prioriteringar. SPS anses vara en av Scanias konkurrensfördelar och har visat sig öka effektiviteten och produktiviteten i produktionen, dit monteringsverksamheten vid Chassi inkluderas. Teknikorganisationen (MST) har som uppgift att stötta monteringsverksamheten och tror att en implementering av SPS kan hjälpa även dem att effektiviseras och skapa en mer homogen organisation.</p><p> </p><p>Syftet med examensarbetet är att påbörja en implementering av SPS inom MST genom varsitt pilotprojekt för produkt- respektive processteknikerna. SPS-principen <em>Normalläge - Standardiserat arbetssätt </em>ska implementeras inom varsin arbetsuppgift för respektive teknikergrupp och speciellt fokus ska läggas på underprinciperna <em>Standardisering, Takt </em>och <em>Balanserat flöde</em>.</p><p> </p><p>En lyckad implementering av SPS inom teknikernas arbete krävde en förankring bland teknikerna för att skapa en egen vilja hos dem att förändra sitt arbetssätt. Detta uppnåddes genom att vid ett seminarium förklara examensarbetets syfte och fördelar med att arbeta enligt SPS samt genom att engagera teknikerna så mycket som möjligt under implementeringens gång. Exempelvis valde teknikerna själva ut inom vilken arbetsuppgift SPS skulle implementeras, skrev sina egna standarder och förbättrade det nya arbetssättet när problem uppstod. Examensarbetet skapade även förbättringsgruppmöten, vilka fungerade som ett forum för teknikerna att ta upp och genomföra förbättringsförslag.</p><p> </p><p>Examensarbetet uppfyllde sitt syfte då varsitt pilotprojekt för produkt- respektive processteknikerna påbörjade en implementering av SPS inom MST och underprinciperna till <em>Normalläge - Standardiserat arbetssätt </em>implementerades inom de utvalda arbetsuppgifterna. Speciellt fokus lades på underprinciperna <em>Standardisering</em>, <em>Takt </em>och <em>Balanserat flöde</em>. Det kunde även konstateras att förbättringar hade skett för de två utvalda arbetsuppgifterna då dels de inom examensarbetet utförda mätningarna visade att teknikerna upplevde att deras arbete överensstämde mer med SPS efter implementeringen, dels det faktum att det nya arbetssättet uppfyllde alla principer och värderingar i SPS.</p><p> </p><p>Avslutningsvis kan det, utifrån examensarbetet, konstateras att det finns möjlighet att implementera SPS inom nästan alla arbetsuppgifter för en tekniker och därmed finns det goda förutsättningar för Scania Chassi att fortsätta implementera SPS inom MST.</p><p> </p>

Abstract:
Bakgrund och problem: Denna studie handlar om ett boxförråd på Scanias hyttfabrik i Oskarshamn. Studien grundades sig i ett uppdrag från en logistikutvecklare på Scania. Boxförrådsprocessen hade inte i någon vidare bemärkelse studerats tidigare då tanken var att ett automatiserat boxförråd skulle installeras, men då detta blev för dyrt så lades projektet ner. Nedläggningen av projektet innebar att Scania var tvungna att tänka om gällande boxförrådet och effektivisera boxförrådsprocessen i dess nuvarande form. I ett tillverkande företag likt Scania blir det nödvändigt att ha olika typer av lager och förråd. Inom lager och förråd är materialflöden en central del vilket innebär hur företaget flyttar och hanterar sitt material. Effektiva materialflöden som sker på ett kostnadseffektivt sätt i lager och förråd kan skapa konkurrensfördelar gentemot sina konkurrenter. Med detta i åtanke blir det viktigt för ett företag att ständigt utvärdera och utveckla sina materialflöden. Detta kan ske genom utveckling av befintliga tekniker och principer, men även vid utveckling av nya. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att titta på Scania i Oskarshamns boxförrådsprocess för att identifiera slöserier och problem. En del av syftet var också att efter identifieringen av slöserier och problem finna förbättringsmöjligheter vilket skulle öka effektiviteten i boxförrådsprocessen. Studien skall resultera i en grund för Scania kring hur de kan arbeta med att förbättra boxförrådsprocessen. Metod: En kvalitativ fallstudiedesign har genomförts där inslag av både kvalitativ och kvantitativ forskningsmetod har applicerats. Genom intervjuer av formatet ostrukturerade och semi-strukturerade samt icke-deltagande observationer har den empiriska datan samlats in. Befintlig litteratur och artiklar har legat till grund för utformandet av teorin. Slutsats: I Scanias boxförrådsprocess har en rad olika slöserier och problem identifierats. För dessa slöserier och problem har olika förbättringsmöjligheter och möjliga arbetssätt tagits fram, vilka skulle kunna reducera dessa och skapa en effektivare boxförrådsprocess.<br>Background and problem: This study is about a box store at Scania's cabin factory in Oskarshamn. The study was based on an assignment from a logistics developer at Scania. The box storage process had not been studied in any further sense before when the idea was to install an automated box store, but when this became too expensive, the project was scrapped. The closure of the project meant that Scania had to rethink the existing box store and find efficient solutions to the current box store process instead. In a manufacturing company like Scania, it becomes necessary to have different types of stocks and stores. In stocks and stores, material flows are a central part, which means how the company moves and manages its material. Efficient material flows that occur in a cost-effective way in stocks and stores can create competitive advantages over their competitors. With this in mind, it becomes important for a company to constantly evaluate and develop its material flows. This can be achieved through the development of existing techniques and principles, but also through the development of new ones. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to look at Scania in Oskarshamn's box storage process to identify wastes and problems. Part of the purpose was also to find opportunities for improvement after the identification of wastes and problems which would increase the efficiency of the box storage process. The study will result in a basis for Scania on how they can work on improving the box storage process. Method: A qualitative case study design has been carried out where elements of both qualitative and quantitative research method has been applied. By means of unstructured and semi-structured interviews as well as non-participant observations, the empirical data has been gathered. Existing literature and articles have formed the basis of the theory. Conclusion: In Scania's box storage process, a number of different wastes and problems have been identified. For these wastes and problems, various opportunities for improvement and possible working methods have been developed, which could reduce these and create a more efficient box storage process.

Denna rapport är uppdelad i två delar. Den första delen undersöker, med data från drygt 16 000 lastbilar, om Scanias Grönt Kort-avtal minskar risken att få föreläggande vid besiktning. Utifrån dessa data undersöks även vilken typ av bilar som har Grönt Kort-avtal. Regressionsanalys görs med hjälp av logitmodeller. Resultatet tyder på att Grönt Kort-avtalet minskar risken för föreläggande. Resultatet visar även vilka faktorer som ökar sannolikheten att en kund har Grönt Kort-avtal. Den andra delen av rapporten undersöker hur Scania-Bilar Stockholm kan använda Grönt Kort-avtal för att förbättra sina kundrelationer, förbättra kundnyttan och därmed öka merförsäljningen av lastbilar och avtal. Detta görs genom intervjuer som kopplas till en litteraturstudie och mynnar ut i ett antal rekommendationer.<br>This report is divided into two parts. With data from more than 16,000 trucks, the first part examines if Scania's Green Card agreement reduces the risk of getting an injunction at inspection. Based on these data this report also examines what kinds of trucks have Green Card agreement. Regression analysis is done by using logit models. The result suggests that the Green Card agreement reduces the risk of injunction. The result also shows the factors that increase the likelihood for a customer to have the Green Card agreement. The second part of the report examines how Scania-Bilar Stockholm can use the Green Card agreement to enhance their customer relationships, enhance customer value and thereby increasing sales of trucks and agreements. This is done through interviews linked to a literature study and culminates in a number of recommendations.

Scania AB är en av Sveriges största exportföretag och därför är en stor del av Sveriges ekonomi. Deras tillverkning av lastbilar går globalt men det stannar inte där utan Scania letar alltid efter att utveckla och förbättra deras produktion. Detta vare sig det är själva lastbilen man förbättrar eller produktionens effektivitet och hållbarhet som man förbättrar så letar de alltid efter en utvecklingsmöjlighet med hjälp av underhåll. För att allt ska gå som det ska i Scania och produktionen skall rulla så smidigt som den bara kan har man ett bra elnät som ser till att produktionen fortsätter hålla den höga kvaliteten samt kvantiteten i produkter, men detta elnät är inte perfekt och får därför defekter. Dessa defekter kommer i form av vad de kallar för spänningsdippar. Dessa spänningsdippar kan orsaka att maskiner i produktionen stannar helt och därmed innebär detta att det blir en stor förlust i pengar för företaget. Därför har vi fått i uppdrag från Scania att skriva denna rapport som beskriver och förklarar vad elnät är i en så grundläggande form för läsaren samt hur just Scanias elnät fungerar. Denna rapport försöker också hitta samband mellan dessa så kallade spänningsdippar och maskinerna som stannar i produktionen. Sedan kommer denna rapport att försöka jämföra Scanias elnät och problem, med andra företag som Elforsk för att se hur de framförallt sammanställer status och störningar på andra industrinät. Detta är intressant då Scania kanske kan ta del av den informationen för att fixa sitt elnät till det bättre. Scania vill också att vi försöker gräva fram information om hur andra företag jobbar på att minska produktionsstörningar som uppstår med störningar i det externa nätet, alltså det nätet som nätbolagen har ansvar över. Slutligen kommer denna rapport försöka ta fram en lösning eller idé för Scania AB och denna idé skall kunna följa upp dessa spänningsdippar under en längre period.<br>Today Scania has the biggest swedish export brand and the cause of this accolade is having great products but also great electronik networks. So the reason why we are writing this projekt is because Scania in recent years have found that their network is not performing in the level they hoped because of disturbans like voltage dips. It is our work to try and explain these disturbans in this report and hopefully come to a conclusion. What you will find in this report is that these voltage dips does have an effect on the production line but there are also different electric problems that can occur, as we will explain in the report. The methodology we will try to use is scientific articles, but mostly this report will use the information that comes from the source of the problem which is Scania. They will send us weekly reports on their system for us to examine, analyse and then try to find a solutions. We will also be using the office package such as word, powerpoint and excel to present our solutions. There will also be a lot of theoretical information that has been brought is from scientific articles just for Scania to maybe use as a option they never thougt about. In conclusion, this report will use help from inside of Scania and outside to find solutions for the questions that have been asked from Scania and the questions will be stated further down in the report.

Abstract:
70 % of the worlds most expensive wildfireshas occurred since year 2003. This is a clear example of that wildfires arean increasingly growing problem which demands new solutions. Some of the most prominent problems of fighting wildfires are the harsh terrainand limited accessibility, the lack of communication and difficulties in creating an overview off the scene and predict how the wildfire will develop. These problems are all factors which I have tried to focus on in my degree project, the Trition. By doing thoroughly research about wildfires and by gathering information and inspiration from other areas, such as the military, it was possible to see the problems of wildfires in a more problem solving perspective. Ideas and forms were generated through unrestrictive sketching and created sketch models.The Trition is a terrain fire truck that serves as a response vehicle, with exceptionally good off-road mobility and that always can be first at the scene. The Trition also serves as a command central which can organise the enormous operations that big fires demands. By having a mobile and multifunctional command central it is possible to always have the latest data about the scene and plan the wildfire fighting in the most efficient way.The Trition is equipped with a drone on its roof. The drone can take off and sweep the area, collecting data which gives the firefighters a good overview and that help to predict the wildfire, such as wind speed and the terrain incline. The drone also has an important preventing function. By regularly sweeping inhabitant areas, the drones infrared camera can detect wildfires earlyon and alert the Trition for an early intervention.

Abstract:
The recent financial crisis of 2008 - caused by uncontrolled speculation on derivatives and a strong financial deregulation started almost thirty years ago in the United States - has shown the fragility and the rotten inside the worldwide financial sector. In 2012, the Libor Scandal highlighted the fact that after this crisis, nothing has changed in the mentality and in the behavior of financial regulators. Libor is related to a huge number of financial contracts for trillions of dollars every year and it is defined as the London Inter-Bank Offered Rate, which is considered one of the most important rates in the financial markets. Besides the value of transactions, this rate has a huge worth since it is a sort of benchmark for the evaluation of mortgages, loans, inter-bank lending and at the same time represents a key indicator of trust and health inside the financial sector. This is the reason why, a manipulated settlement of the rate can lead investors to believe in wrong data and information generating several disruptive effects in the market. The problem is that this is what really happened in 2012; in fact, the major banks listed in the London Stock Exchange like Barclays, JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank and UBS manipulated the process by which the rate was used to be estimated. After the scandal, the English government decided to review the financial regulation regarding the Libor, changing the rules of the process for its determination and increasing the number of criminal sanctions in case of market manipulation. The aim of this work is to understand from a historical and ethnostatistic point of view, in which ways the banks involved have manipulated the rate and which were the incentives that pushed to this irresponsible behavior. Clearly, this scandal led to different negative impacts on the economy. First, the disguised interest rate pushed many private investors to invest in bad financial products even if they were guaranteed as profitable and safe, causing huge losses for the entire system. On the other hand, the “level of trust in finance” of the entire business community decreased dramatically, reaching the lowest level in the last ten years. In business, trust has a strong degree of interconnection with the reputation of the different actors involved and generally this level changes when we consider different sector of the economic system; in the next chapters it will be analyzed how possible is to increase or decrease this level in the financial sector. Considering the aim of the ethnostatistical approach, this work will also take into analysis the level of responsibility of the main banks involved and of the British government and the phenomenon of using the regulation for increasing the level of reputation in the economic sector. Finally, there will be a deep analysis of how often in the last years many banks and financial institutions have changed the real meaning of data in order to achieve goals, which were far from the promises of the application of an ethical and social view in their activities. In addition, the analysis presented in this work shows in a deep way, which are the limits and the possible adjustments that the governments have to put in action with the strict collaboration of the financial regulators, in order to reduce and prevent corruption and market manipulation.

Abstract:
<p>Det här arbetet sammanfattar resultatet av ett examensarbete med syfte att utvärdera produktionsplaneringssystemet som används på vissa av linerna vid Scania CV AB:s motorbearbetningsavdelning, även kallat DM, i Södertälje, och att bedöma systemets potential. DM består av ett gjuteri och flera bearbetningsverkstäder. Den största kunden är Scanias motormontering i Södertälje, dit leveranser sker flera gånger dagligen.</p><p>DM lider generellt av långa ledtider genom produktionen, långa omställningstider och framförallt en väldig stor variation i produktmixen. För att kunna hantera detta bättre infördes under 2008 ett nytt planeringssystem på kamaxelline, och senare även på vevaxelline, vevstakeline och cylinderfoderline. Systemet bygger på cyklisk planering, där kundernas behov jämnas ut under en arbetsvecka och visualiseras i början av varje line. Planen styrs genom att variera antalet rigg, det vill säga omställningar i produktion, till att oavsett efterfråga belägga linerna nära beläggningsmax i syfte att skapa en utmanande plan för att tydligt visualisera avvikelser, i enighet med Scanias Produktionssystem, SPS. På tiden som inte beläggs planeras tid för förbättringsarbete in. Mycket tanke har lagts på införandet av buffertar i flödet för att förkorta ledtider och koppla isär flöden, medan andra buffertar kopplar ihop flöden med hjälp av regelverk. Vad som har uppnåtts och ytterligare potential för metoden är dock inte helt klarlagt varför Scania, som ett led i strävan efter ständiga förbättringar, vill utvärdera infört planeringssystem och kartlägga dess potential.</p><p>Genom att studera litteratur och genomföra flera intervjuer med personer i olika befattningar, kopplade direkt och indirekt till produktionsplaneringssystemet, evaluerades systemet på ett objektiv sätt, med hjälp av en framtagen plan för utvärdering. Utvärderingen genomfördes ur ett helhetsperspektiv med stöd av en plan där de fyra områdena styrsätt, framtagning av plan, operativt arbete samt buffertar fokuserades. Genom utvärderingen som genomförts kan slutsatsen dras att produktionsplaneringssystemet enligt teorin inte passar rådande förutsättningar på DM. Detta eftersom grundförutsättningar för att cyklisk planering ska fungera enligt teorin är jämna kunduttag och en stabil produktionsmix. Dock är det sagt att den cykliska planen på DM regelbundet ska uppdateras. Detta i kombination med påkopplandet av SPS-parametrar såsom utjämnande av plan och arbete med ständiga förbättringar gör att systemet trots allt kan ses som passande för DM. Dock kan vi genom utvärderingen påvisa att flera viktiga faktorer drar ner systemets fulla potential. Bland annat följer inte vissa liner uppsatta regler, varför förankringsarbete är viktig – att få linen att inse grundtankarna med systemet, vilka fördelar det skapar och varför reglerna är viktiga. Vidare används inte den cykliska planen som den är tänkt eftersom den inte uppdateras ofta nog. Produktionsmässiga hinder finns i form av långa riggtiderna, vilket medför att antalet artiklar som ryms i en cykel är begränsat. Den konkreta körplaneringen försvåras vidare av tekniska förutsättningar gällande hantering av artiklar i parallella flöden.</p><p>Slutsatsen för rapporten besvaras av den genomförda utvärdering och framtagande av potentialerna för att förbättra systemet ytterligare. Genom utvärderingen kunde vi konstatera att mycket av aktuell teori inom området produktionsplanering berör ekonomiska mått. Vi har genom vår utvärdering visat att tekniska hinder, tillsammans med personalaspekter, visualisering och hantering av riggtider, är viktiga faktorer som ett produktionsplaneringssystem måste ta hänsyn till, vilket saknas i teorin för närvarande.</p><br><p>This study concludes the results of a master thesis with the objective to evaluate the production planning system used on some of the production lines at Scania CV AB's motor processing department, also known as DM, in Södertälje. Furthermore the system's potential is to be assessed. DM consists of a foundry and several processing workshops. The largest customer is the engine mounting Scania in Södertälje, where deliveries are made several times per day.</p><p>DM generally suffers from long lead times in production, in addition to long switching times and above all, a very large variation in product mix. To handle this better a new planning system was introduced in 2008 on the cam shaft line, and later on the crank shaft line, conrod line and cylinder liners line. The system is based on pattern planning, where customer demands are smoothed out over a week and visualized at the beginning of each line. The plan is governed by varying the number of rigs, regardless of current demand, and always occupy each line close to production limit in order to create a challenging plan to clearly visualize abnormalities, in agreement with Scania Production System, SPS. Such time that is not scheduled for production is planned as time for improvements. Much thought has been put into the inclusion of buffers in the flow in order to shorten lead times and uncouple flows, while other buffers pair flows through regulations. What has been achieved and further potential of the method is not entirely clear why Scania, as part of the quest for continuous improvement, want to evaluate the implemented planning system and determine its potential.</p><p>By studying the literature and conduct several interviews with people in various positions, linked directly and indirectly to the production planning system, the system was evaluated in an objective manner, with the help of a developed plan for evaluation. From the evaluation carried out can be concluded that the production planning system according to the theory does not fit the prevailing conditions on DM. This is because the basic conditions for pattern planning according to theory are regular customer withdrawals and a stable production mix. However, it is said that the cyclical perspective of DM to be regularly updated. This combined with connecting the SPS parameters such as smoothing the demand and work with continuous improvements, the system can nevertheless be regarded as suitable for DM. However, we can demonstrate through the evaluation that several important factors pull down the system's full potential. Among other things, certain rules are not being followed, why anchoring job is important - to get the line to realize the basic ideas of the system, what benefits it provides and why rules are important. Further, the pattern plan is not used as it is meant to be because of not being updated frequently enough. Production-related barriers exist in the form of long rig time, which means that the number of items contained within a cycle is limited. The actual production planning is further hampered by the technical conditions concerning the handling of articles in parallel flows.</p><p>The conclusion of the report is answered by the evaluation undertaken and the development of potentials for improving the system further. Through the evaluation we found that much of current theory in the field of production planning involve economic dimensions. We have shown with our evaluation that technical barriers, together with the personnel aspects, visualization and management of rig time, are important factors for a production planning system to take into account, which is lacking in theory at present.</p>

Detta examensarbete utfördes på uppdrag av Scania CV AB, som tillverkar lastbilar och bussar för tunga transporter samt industri- och marinmotorer. Syftet med arbetet har varit att undersöka möjligheten att integrera en ”onboard”-navigator i datorenheten C200. C200 har huvuduppgiften att fungera som kommunikationslänk mellan fordonet och omvärlden via Internet, d.v.s. är fordonets kommunikator. Med ”onboard”-navigator menas det att kartmaterial och annan information som behövs för navigering finns förinstallerad på navigatorenheten. Scania tillverkar sedan tidigare navigatorer som används i deras fordon. I och med lanseringen av den nya kommunikationsenheten, C200, öppnas möjligheterna för en billigare navigator. Examensarbetet har genomförts, dels genom att utreda vilka krav en ”onboard”-navigator ställer på hårdvaran samt mjukvaran, och dels genom att utveckla en demonstrator som kan påvisa att ett sådant system är möjligt att integreras i C200. I rapporten beskrivs systemets underliggande teknologier, och de resultat som har uppnåtts för en alternativ navigator i C200. The term onboard-navigator refers a unit where the maps and other information needed for navigation are pre-installed. In the past Scania has manufactured several navigators, which have been used in their vehicles. However, with the new communication device, C200, there will be possibilities for a cheaper navigation unit. The thesis work has been carried out partly by studying the requirements put forth by an onboard-navigator on the hardware as well as the software. This was partly made by developing a demonstration system that is possible to integrate on C200. This report describes the system’s underlying technologies, and the results that have been achieved for an alternative navigator on C200. The results show that an onboard-navigator in such a system is not possible to be implemented on C200, because of its limited storage capacity for map data and unavailability of a navigation software with SDK integration which can run on its Linux-based platform. SDK is a designation of a development tool that enables software developers to build applications against a specific program package. During the current year a navigation software with SDK integration will be available which can be implemented in C200. This leaves only the requirements of upgrading the memory capacity of C200 and the functionality of the chosen screen (ICL2 Color Plus), to achieve a useful navigator on Scania’s communicator.

Syftet med denna rapport är att kartlägga Scania Production System (SPS), hur det motiverades och implementerades inom Scanias organisation samt dra kopplingar mellan tidigare reformer och SPS. Vi vill ta reda på hur Scania lyckats skapa ett eget skräddarsytt produktionssystem som visat sig vara så framgångsrikt och hur detta infördes inom hela organisationen. SPS är ett resultat av Toyota och deras Toyota Production System (TPS) efter ett nära samarbete mellan Scania och Toyota sedan början av nittiotalet. Scanias värderingar, principer och prioriteringar beskrivs av SPS och har visat sig vara en av företagets konkurrensfördelar genom ökad effektivitet samt produktivitet inom produktionen. TPS fick mycket av sin inspiration av de tidigare reformerna Taylorismen och Fordismen ur rationaliseringsrörelsen. Detta genom Taylors idéer om standardisering och Fords löpandebands-princip. Toyota var även bland dem första att utforma och tillämpa de logistiska reformerna Total Quality Management, Lean Production och Just-In-Time i sitt produktionssystem. Reformer som används och är välkända inom många företag inte minst Scania och SPS. Rapporten uppfyllde sitt syfte genom intervjuer och analys av konceptlitteratur för att kunna konstatera att det finns en röd tråd inom företaget och att det finns en tydlig koppling mellan SPS och tidigare reformer. Avslutningsvis lyckades vi även analysera och dra slutsatser om hur SPS utformades, motiverades och implementerades. Utformningen av SPS gick till genom ett nära samarbete mellan ledningar på Scania och Toyota vilken Scania på så sätt kunnat ta inspiration ifrån och kunnat anpassa systemet efter Scanias kultur. Hur sedan SPS motiverades och implanterades föregick i en ledningsprocess som Scania tillämpade inom organisationen. Lösningen kom att bli avgörande för framtiden, ledarskapet. Man tillämpade ett nytt tankesätt genom hela verksamheten vilket har visat sig vara framgångsrikt.<br>The purpose of this report is to map the Scania Production System (SPS), how it was motivated and implemented within Scania's organization, as well as linking previous reforms with SPS. We want to find out how Scania managed to create its own customized production system that proved being successful and how it was introduced throughout the organization. SPS is a result of Toyota and their Toyota Production System (TPS) following a close collaboration between Scania and Toyota since the early 1990s. Scania's values, principles and priorities are described by SPS and have proven to be one of the company's competitive advantages through increased efficiency and productivity in production. TPS received much inspiration from the earlier reforms of Taylorism and Fordism from the rationalization movement. This through Taylor's ideas about standardization and Ford's running band principle. Toyota was also one of the first to design and apply the logistics theory’s Total Quality Management, Lean Production and Just-In-Time in its production system. Reforms used and well known in many companies, not least Scania and SPS. The report fulfilled its purpose through interviews and analysis of conceptual literature to find that there is a red thread within the company and that there is a clear link between SPS and previous reforms. In conclusion, we also managed to analyse and draw conclusions about how the SPS was designed, motivated and implemented. The design of SPS was achieved through close collaboration between Scania and Toyota wires, which enabled Scania to inspire and adapt the system to Scania's culture. The way in which SPS was motivated and implanted preceded a management process that Scania applied to within the organization. The solution came to be decisive for the future, leadership. A new way of thinking was applied throughout the business, which has proved to be successful.

<p>Bakgrund: Investeringar har olika syfte för verksamheter och det är vikigt att investera för överlevnad på marknaden samt att skapa konkurrensfördelar. Företag investerar till stor del för att följa sin strategi och uppnå sina mål. På grund av begränsade resurser pågår hela tiden en avvägning mellan vilka investeringar som ska genomföras och för att kunna genomföra dessa krävs det att vissa rutiner efterföljs, dessutom är även planering av investeringar av stor vikt för att investeringsprocessen ska vara effektiv och väl fungerande. De olika stegen i investeringsprocessen ska vara sammankopplade och då även de personer som är involverade i investeringsarbetet.</p><p>Syfte: Syftet med denna uppsats är att beskriva Scania Oskarshamns investeringsprocess och utifrån detta undersöka hur den är kopplad till verksamhetens strategi samt ta reda på om de olika delarna i investeringsprocessen är integrerade med varandra.</p><p>Avgränsningar: Vi har begränsat oss till att enbart använda Scania Oskarshamn som underlag till vår undersökning då den annars skulle bli allt för omfattande och därmed följer det att vi inte fokuserar på Scania som koncern.</p><p>Metod: Vi har valt en kvalitativ metod i form av en enfallsstudie. I denna studie har vi haft ett beskrivande och ett utforskande forskningsintresse, detta på grund av att vi dels har beskrivit investeringsprocessen på Scania Oskarshamn, dels utrett hur den är kopplad till strategi samt hur stegen är kopplade till varandra. I uppsatsen genomförde vi semistrukturerade intervjuer vilket innebär att vi gav plats för övriga frågor som dök upp under intervjuns gång.</p><p>Avslutning: Vi har identifierat följande steg i Scania Oskarshamns investeringsprocess: initiering, framtagande av beslutsunderlag, framdrivning mot beslut, beslut, inför genomförande, genomförande, uppföljning. Vi har dragit slutsatsen att investeringar genomförs i enlighet med Scanias strategi utifrån de tre kärnvärdena, dessutom är styrelsen involverad i både strategi och beslutsfattande och på så sätt kopplas investeringar till strategi än en gång. Det finns en naturlig övergång mellan de olika faserna, dock brister denna i uppföljningen. Många personer i investeringsprocessen är integrerade, däremot är inte Ekonomiavdelningen lika delaktig som den bör i investeringsarbetet.</p><p>Framtida forskning: Vi tycker att det skulle vara intressant att se hur investeringsprocessen är kopplad till hur företaget arbetar med ständiga förbättringar. Ett annat förslag till framtida forskning är att studera hur investeringsprocessen är kopplad till Scanias Produktionssystem eftersom detta härstammar från ”lean production”.</p>

Scania provides a fleet management system for hauliers who want to control their fleets in an efficient way. The system includes an onboard computer with touch screen called Scania Interactor where the driver can access GPS navigation, order support, message service and other functionalities. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a concept for logging the user interaction on the Interactor and analyze the result which enables further development and optimization of the interface. A demonstration application is designed, implemented and tested for the purpose of showing the possibilities and difficulties with logging of interaction. The result shows that logging is quite easy to implement and that the amount of produced data is small and therefore not expensive to transfer via GPRS to a central server where searching and analysis can be done. On the other hand, the biggest challenge lies in the analysis and interpretation of the logged data and to apply it to the development of the interface. Logging of interaction can not answer questions about the user’s opinions but can at least point out potential flaws and areas that can be improved. Another issue related to logging of interaction is the legal aspect. Two laws have been identified and need consideration before logging can be implemented in reality.<br>Scania tillhandahåller ett system för flottstyrning, kallat Fleet Management System, för åkerier som vill styra sina flottor på ett effektivt sätt. I Scanias system ingår på fordonssidan en fordonsdator med pekskärm kallad Interactor. På den finns ett grafiskt användargränssnitt där chauffören har tillgång till GPS-navigeringsverktyg, orderhantering, meddelandetjänst och andra funktioner för att underlätta i arbetet. Detta examensarbete har gått ut på att ta fram ett koncept för att logga interaktionen som chaufförerna har med Interactorn för att sedan analysera loggen och dra slutsatser som leder till att utvecklingen av Interactorn kan optimeras. En demonstrator har designats, implementerats och testats för att visa på möjligheter och svårigheter med interaktionsloggning. Resultatet visar att det på ett enkelt sätt går att logga interaktion med Interactorn samt att loggen som skapas inte blir särskilt stor och därmed inte så dyr att överföra med GPRS till en central enhet där sökning och analys kan utföras. Däremot ligger det en stor utmaning i att analysera och tolka loggen och sedan applicera det på utvecklingen av Interactorn. Interaktionsloggning kan inte svara på frågor om användarnas uppfattning om Interactorn men kan peka på potentiella brister och områden som kan förbättras. Den lagliga aspekten av interaktionsloggning har också tagits upp där två lagar har identifierats, personuppgiftslagen och lagen om elektronisk kommunikation. Om interaktionsloggning ska implementeras och användas i mer än fältprovsbilar måste dessa lagar tas hänsyn till.

This thesis is about making a support for barcode readers and RFID readers on a computer mounted in heavy vehicles. The computer has several applications designed for heavy vehicles such as an order handling application. The goal was to suggest an architecture to implement a support for the readers. The architecture should be independent of which manufacturer who has made the reader hardware that was connected to the computer. At first a theoretically study was made around RFID technology and standards for the transport and supply sector. Then the architecture was developed and a demo implementation was made. The conclusion of this thesis is to implement support for barcode readers with a wedge application. The wedge application is an application that handles the communication with barcode readers and converts the barcode into key presses from a virtual keyboard. The wedge application is an application that the manufacturer of the barcode reader supplies. The user must install the drivers and wedge application for the reader. On one type of the computers the user is not allowed to install own applications. This is solved by Scania by installing drivers and wedge applications from the largest actors on the barcode reader market. The implementation of RFID readers is not as urgent as for barcode reader. RFID is mostly used in shape of smart labels. Smart labels are a combination of an RFID tag and a barcode and therefore the barcode can be used on smart labels. When and if the implementation of RFID will be made the EPC standard should be used. This is probably he standard that will be used in supply chains. The EPC standard specifies a protocol between the RFID reader and the host computer.<br>Det här examensarbetet handlar om att göra ett stöd för streckkodsläsare och RFID-läsare till en dator monterad i en lastbil. Datorn har flera applikationer gjorda för lastbilar till exempel en orderhanteringsapplikation. Målet var att föreslå en arkitektur för att implementera stöd för läsare. Arkitekturen ska vara oberoende av vilken tillverkare som har gjort hårdvaran som kopplas till datorn. Först gjordes en teoristudie av RFID-teknologin och standarder för transport- och distributionsnätet. Sedan utvecklades arkitekturen och en demo gjordes. Slutsatsen av det här examensarbetet är att implementera stöd för streckkodsläsare med en så kallad wedge-applikation. Wedge-applikationen hanterar kommunikationen med streckkodsläsare och konverterar streckkoden till tangentbordstryckningar från ett virtuellt tangentbord. Wedge-applikationen tillhandahåller tillverkaren av streckkodsläsaren. Användaren måste installera drivrutiner och wedge-aplikationen för sin läsare. På en av datorerna är det inte tillåtet att installera egna applikationer. Detta löses genom att Scania installerar drivrutiner och wedge-applikationer från de största tillverkarna inom streckodsläsarområdet. Implementeringen av RFID-läsare är inte lika brådskande som för streckkodsläsare. RFID används oftast i form av smart labels. Smart labels är en kombination av en RFID-tag och en streckkod och därför kan streckkoden användas på en smart label. Om och när implementeringen av RFID sker så bör EPC-standarden användas. Det är troligvis denna standard som kommer att användas inom distribution. EPC-standarden specificerar ett protokoll som används mellan RFID-läsaren och värddatorn.

Volvo har gjort två försök till förvärv av Scania ochMAN har gjort ett.Volvo gjorde två försök till förvärv först år 1979 och sedan igen år 1999men hindrades då av EU-kommissionen eftersom företagen tillsammansskulle dominera den nordiska marknaden. Man vill på Scania korta utvecklingstiden på sina produkter för att fortsatt kunna vara en av de främsta tillverkarna av lastbilar i världen. För att lyckas med detta måste man hitta nya hjälpmedel och vägar för att öka kunskapen och snabba på utvecklingsarbetet. Oljeflödet i växellådan är ett sådant område där man nu undersökt möjligheterna till att öka kunskaperna genom datorsimuleringar. I detta examensarbete har en modell för datorsimuleringar av oljeflödet genom axlarna i växellådan tagits fram i GT-Suite, som är ett modulbaserat simuleringsprogram i 1D. Modellen kan simulera flödet från oljepumpen, ända bak till solhjulet i planetväxeln och däremellan flödet till lager och synkar. Tanken är att den ska kunna användas vid vidareutveckling av dagens växellådor och i framtiden utvecklingen av nya växellådor. Simuleringarna har validerats mot mätningar som genomförts där flödet till solhjulet har mätts för olika varvtal och uppställningar av växellådan. Simuleringarna har kunnat efterlikna mätningarna på ett tillfredsställande sätt. Det finns goda möjligheter att simulera flödet i GT-Suite och använda programmet som referens vid förändringar och nyutveckling av växellådor. Simuleringar har även för vissa delkomponenter validerats mot CFD-simuleringar i 3D. Fördelen med CFD-simuleringar är att mer kunskap om flödet kan utvinnas även för komplicerade geometrier. Nackdelen är att komplexiteten vid simulering av hela systemet blir för stor varför mestadels delsystem måste studeras. I framtiden kommer säkerligen arbete i form av nya mätningar och simuleringar i CFD-program behövas för att ytterligare förbättra och utveckla modellen. Men redan nu har resultat från simuleringar kunnat öka kunskapen om flödet i växellådan. Detta har i sin tur kunnat hjälpa konstruktörer att lösa utmaningar man haft, samt upptäcka nya som skulle kunna lösas genom att simulera och undersöka vilka förändringar som krävs.<br>At Scania they want to shorten the development time on their products in order to continue being one of the top manufacturers of trucks in the world. To do this they have find new ways and new tools to increase the knowledge and speed up the development of new products. The oil flow in the gearbox is such an area in which they have examined the possibilities to increase the knowledge with the aid of computer simulations. In this thesis work a model for computer simulations of the oil flow through the shafts of the gearbox has been developed in GT-Suite, a module based simulation program in 1D. The model can simulate the flow of oil from the oil pump in the front of the gearbox, all the way back to the sun wheel in the planetary gear and in between the flow to bearings and synchronizers. The aim is to be able to use the model during further development of todays gearboxes and in the future development of new gearboxes. The simulations have been validated against measurements which have been performed in which the oil flow to the sun wheel have been measured for various speeds an configurations of the gearbox. The simulations have been able to replicate the measurements in many ways adequately. GT-Suite is well suited for simulations and to use as a reference when making adjustments to the gearbox and in the future when developing new gearboxes. The result from simulations in GT-Suite have also been validate against CFD-simulations in 3D for some specific components. The advantage of CFD-simulations is that more knowledge of the flow can be obtained even for complicated geometries. The disadvantage is that the complexity when simulating the entire system makes it almost impossible, so mostly subsystems must be studied. In the future more work in form of new measurements and simulations in CFD-programs will be necessary to further improve the model. But already now the results of simulations have been able to increase the knowledge of the oil flow in the gearbox. And this in turn have helped designers to solve some challenges they have had, but also discovered new ones that could be solved by simulations and examine what changes are required.

Målet med examensarbetet har varit att ta fram ett fungerande förslag på befintligt vattensystem mellan motor och retarder, som är billigt, monteringsbart, har låg vikt och lång livslängd i fordon. Retarder är en hjälpbroms och har som främsta uppgift att minska slitage på de ordinarie bromsarna. För att lösa detta gjordes först en nulägesbeskrivning där kylvattenröret kartlades. Därefter intervjuades Scania personalen på Retarder och det resonerades kring tidigare konstruktioner gjorda på området. De teorier som användes var monteringsanpassad konstruktion (DFA), tillverkningsanpassad konstruktion (DFM), miljöanpassad konstruktion (DFE), feleffektanalys (FMEA) och Scania produktions system (SPS). För att säkerställa vilken typ av material och tillverkningsmetod som ska användas i konstruktionen gjordes ett "out of the box" tänkande. Informationen som framkom pekade på att dimensionen borde optimeras, det betydliga materialet ändras och att fästena på kylvattenröret borde elimineras. Detta för att erhåll en billigare, lättare och mer monteringsvänligare konstruktion. Konstruktionsförslaget är ett kylvattenrör med fästen som är av bockad plåt och som monteras på gummirör för att dämpa vibrationerna. Här har jag ersatt de svetsade fästena med monterbara fästen som håller kylvattenröret på plats. Vidare har godstjockleken på kylvattenröret optimerats från 2 mm till 1,5 mm och jag har behållit det befintliga materialet SS-EN 1010216, tryckkärlsstål, då både aluminium och plast inte höll vid de vibrationer som uppkom i fordonet. Dessutom har fästena, som håller upp hela konstruktionen av kylvattenröret mot växellådan, omkonstruerats så att det passar det nya konstruktionen. Dessa fästen monteras på växelhuset med två stycken M10 skruvar i varje fäste. Simuleringar med finita elementmetoden (FEM) genomfördes för att undersöka deformationer och spänningar som uppstod när kylvätskan passerade genom kylvattenröret och då vibrationer uppstod från motorn, pumpen, hjulen eller vägunderlagen. Resultat från analyser med FEM tydde på att de största påkänningarna fanns på de rundfästen som håller upp kylvattenröret. Den högsta statiska spänningen på dessa fästen är 75 MPa med en sträckgräns på 500MPa. Denna anses vara låg och betraktas inte som kritisk. Vid den dynamiska analysen resulterade detta i att egenfrekvens uppkom vid 162 Hz som är över Scanias kritiska intervall, 150 Hz. För att säkerställa att konstruktionen är hållbar bör en prototyp tillverkas och testas. Förslaget presenterades för både chefen och montörerna på monteringsområdet och de var positiv inställda till förslaget av en rad olika anledningar så som lättare montering, kortare monteringstider, ergonomisk montering, kvalitetssäkrad montering samt förmonteringsbar. Dessutom kan bemanningen minimeras till följd av de korta monteringstiderna.<br>The aim of the thesis has been to develop a workable proposal on the existing water system between the engine and retarder that is inexpensive and has adjustable mounting, light weight and long life. A retarder is a helping brake and its main task is to reduce wear on the regular brakes. To solve this, first a description of the present situation was mapped on the cooling tube. Then, Scania staff was interviewed at the Scania Retarder section and we had a discussion about the company’s previous designs. The theories used were Design For Assembly (DFA), Design For Manufacture (DFM), Design For Environment (DFE), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Scania Production System (SPS). To ensure the type of material and the manufacturing process "out of the box thinking" was made in the construction. The information that emerged was that one could optimize the dimension, possibly amending the existing material and eliminate a bracket on the coolant pipe. The aim of this design is not only to obtain a cheaper and lighter construction but it should also be easier to assemble. The design proposal is a Cooling Water Pipe with brackets that are made of bent sheet metal and are mounted on rubber tubes in order to damp vibrations. Here I have replaced the welded brackets with mountable brackets that hold the cooling water pipe in place. Furthermore, the thickness of the cooling water pipe was reduced from 2 mm to 1.5 mm and I have retained the existing material SS-EN 1010216, pressure vessel steel, because both aluminium and plastic are not held at the vibrations that were generated in the vehicle. In addition, brackets which hold up the whole construction of the cooling water pipe against the gearbox were redesigned so that they fit the new structure. These brackets were mounted on the gear housing with two M10 screws on each bracket. Simulations that were made in the Finite Element Method (FEM) were conducted to investigate the deformations and stresses that occur when the coolant passes through the cooling water pipe and when vibrations arise from engine, pump, wheel or road. Results from analyzes, using finite element, indicate that the most critical stresses are on the round brackets who are holding up the cooling water pipe. The maximum static stress on these brackets is 75 MPa with yield strength of 500MPa. This is considered to be low and not critical. However in the dynamic analysis the natural frequency occurred at 162 Hz which is over Scania’s critical range, 150 Hz. To ensure the structural integrity, a prototype should be made and tested in order to authenticate that the safety margin is sufficient and that the natural frequency is within the critical interval. The proposal has been presented to the staff at the assembly department and they were positive about this suggestion due to many reasons such as easier installation, reduced installation time, ergonomic mount ability, quality controlled assembly and ability to pre-mount. In addition, the assemblers thought that this design proposal can minimize staffing as a result of the short assembly times.

Abstract:
This thesis, an exercise in cultural history, puts forwards two main lines of argument. Firstly, I explore the way in which scandal was used by early nineteenth century reformers to argue for the inclusion of a wider range of individuals in political debate. I contrast the approaches of Rousseau and Bentham to publicity, exploring the manner in which the latter became especially useful to radicals after the 1790s, as the former became associated with dangerous Jacobinism. Chapters three and four discuss the interplay between these two ways of thinking about scandal in the Mary Ann Clarke affair (1809) and the Queen Caroline affair (1820-1). I show that while scandal allowed the case for reform to be dramatized in an especially vivid way, encouraging ordinary people to get involved in politics, its attention to particular details could also damage the radical cause by distracting attention away from abstract arguments for reform. The second strand of argument deals with the relationship between publicity and feminism. Scandal did not just entrench the sexual double standard rather, debates about publicity provided a way for early feminists to demand recognition of woman's legal and political identity. However, attitudes amongst women towards the balance to be struck between individual self-determination and social convention varied widely. Germaine de Stael and Geraldine Jewsbury reworked the ideas of Rousseau to argue that a woman's ability to follow her feelings rather than moral conventions signalled her suitability for citizenship, and in the Caroline affair, many ordinary women claimed a right to engage in political debate on the grounds of their feelings of sympathy for the Queen. On the other hand, Maria Edgeworth argued for a rapprochement between reason and social duty, while Rosina Bulwer-Lytton used scandal against her husband in order to press for recognition of woman's separate legal identity.

Scanias nuvarande mjukvaruprocess upplevs, i många fall, vara onödigt lång från det att en idé har genererats tills att den har lanserats på marknaden. För att konkurrera på marknaden är det viktigt att erbjuda nya tjänster och ny avancerad fordonsstyrning som snabbt ska kunna sättas i produktion. För att säkerställa att mjukvaran uppfyller de uppsatta kvalitet- och säkerhetskraven används inarbetade processer däribland den så kallade Embedded Release Process. Dock är denna process inte alltid till hjälp för utvecklingen och kan medföra lång "time-to-market". Syftet med detta examensarbete var att utreda Scanias nuvarande utvecklingsprocess av mjukvara med avseende på ledtider, eftersom det idag råder frågetecken om huruvida processen är tidsmässigt optimerad från idé tills att den når kund. De metoder som har använts för att angripa de uppställda frågeställningarna har bestått mestadels av kvalitativa forskningsmetoder så som litteraturstudie, värdeflödesanalys, fallstudie, benchmarking samt workshop. Såsom ett komplement till den kvalitativa forskningen har statistik tillämpats i fallstudien. Värdeflödesanalysen visade på många överlämningar inom organisationen, centraliserad beslutsfattning samt att flödet sker sekventiellt. Vidare utfördes en fallstudie på två mjukvaruprojekt med olika karaktär. Efter analys av de både projekten identifierades mestadels olikheter, där framgångsfaktorerna för det ena fallet kan tillämpas på framtida projekt. Även ett benchmarkingbesök på företaget Maquet har skett vilket påvisade underlag för att de långa ledtiderna i Scanias mjukvaruutveckling kan reduceras. Slutligen utfördes en omfattande workshop med representanter från olika mjukvaruavdelningar där slöserier inom mjukvaruutvecklingen fastställdes. Examensarbetets forskningsmetoder har sammantaget visat på att det finns inneboende ledtider som är obefogade för rena mjukvaruprojekt. De processer som tillämpas idag är inte behovsstyrda och flexibla som mjukvaruutvecklingen erfordrar. Om dessa ledtider skulle optimerats utifrån examensarbetets rekommendationer skulle de nya funktionerna kunnat nå marknaden tidigare. Companies within the automotive industry nowadays have to deliver advanced automotive control systems in a rapid pace to be able to compete on the market. At Scania, there are well established processes, including the so called Embedded Release Process, ensuring that the original demands for quality and safety are met by the software. However this process seems not to have an approach where the "pull" comes from the demand. The current software development process is questioned whether this process, from its idea until it is launched, is time optimized. The main purpose of this master thesis was therefore to investigate the current software development process focusing on lead times. In order to address the stated issues, in the introduction chapter, the master thesis have utilized mostly qualitative research methods. A selection of the chosen methods and tools have been; literature study, value stream analysis, case study, benchmarking, workshop and statistics. The value stream analysis highlighted several handovers within the organisation of Scania, centralized decision-making and a process based on numerous sequential activities. Further on, the case study was performed on two software development projects with various characteristics. Through the analysis of the specific cases mostly differences were identified, where the success factors for one of the cases could be learned from for the future projects. Furthermore a benchmarking was conducted at the company Maquet which showed on potential improvements regarding the software lead times at Scania. Finally a comprehensive workshop was organised involving representatives from various departments within software development at Scania. The last mentioned resulted in many concrete examples of waste hidden in the current software development process. This master thesis’ research has altogether showed on intrinsic lead times not adapted to software projects exclusively. The nature of software development calls for flexibility and a process that will satisfy the rapidly changing customer needs of today. This has proven not to be the case with the current applied processes. Lastly, an optimization of the intrinsic lead times, based on the recommendations of this report, is believed to result in an earlier market introduction for the software. Questions such as these can be discovered using this classroom tool!<br>This case study provides a real-world example of corporate toxicity to illustrate the toxic triangle model and show how situations like this one come to pass (Padilla, 2013). The primary focus will be on WorldCom/MCI and the events leading to the world famous accounting scandal that came to light in 2003. This case briefly examines the three major triangle elements, (1) the role of the leader, (2) the enabling efforts of colluding and conforming followers, and (3) the conducive nature of the specific organizational context, all in correlation with the eventual destruction of the organization. Identifying these elements provides an opportunity for students to analyze an actual account of corporate toxicity through critical thinking and discussion. Att ta fram ett bra belöningssystem är inte alltid så enkelt och det finns ett antal problem företaget måste ta ställning till. Ska Scania använda sig av individ- eller gruppbaserat belöningssystem och ska man skilja på belöningar mellan personal på olika nivåer då de kan ha annorlunda värderingar på vad som är bra belöningar. Hur har Scania valt att göra och hur motiveras de anställda av detta? Syfte Syftet är att undersöka hur motiverade de anställda i Scania blir av det existerande belöningssystemet och hur systemet skulle kunna förändras för att öka motivationen. Vi har även som mål att ta reda på om synen på belöningssystem skiljer sig på olika nivåer i företaget. Metod</p><p>Undersökningen har genomförts i form av en fallstudie på företaget Scania. Intervjuer har använts för att sammanställa empirikapitlet. Vi har valt att använda oss av sekundärdata till teoriavsnittet i uppsatsen.Resultat I undersökningen framgick det att uppskattning och stimulerande arbetsuppgifter är den största faktorn till motivation hos de anställda på Scania. Scania erbjuder sina anställda en mängd olika förmåner som vi upplevde var mycket uppskattade men de flesta tog det för givet och såg det inte som belöningar. Synen på vad ett bra belöningssystem är skiljde sig åt beroende på vilken lönenivå den anställde hade. Det framgick i undersökningen att de som tjänade bättre inte prioriterade monetära belöningar i samma utsträckning som de med lägre inkomst utan var mer intresserade av andra belöningar och förmåner. De verkstadsanställda hade synpunkter på AV-trappan då de kände sig begränsade inom trappan och efterfrågade en mer individuell lönesättning. Tjänstemännen efterfrågade en mer begriplig lönesättning.</p>

Denna uppsats har valt att utgå från Jeffrey K. Likers (2004) definition i The Toyota Way. Liker delar upp filosofin i fyra stycken sektioner. Uppsatsen fokuserar på två av dessa som behandlar arbetsprocessen och ständiga förbättringar. Scanias produktionssystem bygger till stor del på Toyotas. Är lager en belastning eller en tillgång? Tidigare var det ett sätt att ha bra leveransservice. Idag ser man lager som ett bundet kapital man vill minimera. ScaniaCV AB bildades år 1900 och började tillverka cyklar. Idag är Scania en global tillverkare av tunga lastbilar, bussar samt industriella och marina motorer. Företaget har ett eget emballage som används för produktion och distribution av råvaror, komponenter och reservdelar. Krav på ständiga förbättringar florerar inom Scania, en möjlig förbättring är att se över hur emballagebeställning och emballageflödet fungerar. Syftet med projektet är att kartlägga Scanias emballageflöde och ge förslag på hur materialanskaffning av emballage kan förbättras för att undvika för stora lager. En kvalitativ metod har använts bestående av empiriskt insamling av material samt litteraturstudier för ökad förståelse av ämnet logistik. Observationerna har varit i form av en halv dags rundvandring på tre av företagets många avdelningar, motortillverkning, emballagenedbrytning och emballagepoolen. Våra slutsatser är riktade mot att materialplanerare på Scania måste få bättre information från emballageflödet. Då emballageflödet är enormt och komplext kan ett första steg till förbättring vara att börja förbättra det interna informationsflödet, för att senare utveckla det och förbättra informationsflödet mot leverantörer.<br>Are storage facilities a burden or an asset? In earlier times storage was regarded simply as a means to ensure reliable delivery. Today the additional complexity of being a fixed cost, that must be minimized, has risen. Scania CV AB was founded in 1900 originally as a bicycle manufacturer. It has now evolved to a global heavy duty vehicle and marineengines manufacturer. The company has its own packaging, which is used to facilitateproduction, distribution of goods, components, and spare parts. Striving for continuous improvements is explicitly emphasized in Scania’s mission statement. For packaging, a possible improvement can be achieved by gaining further insight into the companies packaging flow and ordering policies. Hence, the aim of this project is to map Scania’s package flow and to find plausible suggestions for how packaging management can be improved to avoid storage excess. A qualitative method consisting of empirical and literature studies is used to gain a deeper insight of logistics as a subject matter. Observations are made through private guided tours of three departments at Scania, namely engine manufacturing, packaging disposal and the main warehouse. The results show that material and packaging management at Scania must obtain better information flow from each intermediate station in the packaging flow. The packaging flow is vast and complex. Thus, a first step for improvement could most likely be to improve the internal information flow. Subsequently, the improved internal flow should be extended to improve the communication with suppliers.

Scania’s discount rate - the return requirement of investments - refers to Scania’s WACC or weighted average cost of capital. The capital markets return requirement on equity and the credit market interest cost of borrowing is weighted to become the single discount rate, the WACC. The purpose of this study is to investigate which asset pricing model of APT and CAPM Scania should use in their WACC calculations. The company now uses a group WACC of 11 percent which is used in all company levels. The problem with this is that investments in low-risk markets will be discounted by the same factor as high-risk markets, which can result in a misleading NPV. The objective is to create a differentiated WACC which gives an opportunity to compare investments with different risk profiles. The study proposes the best fitting model, given by evaluating APT and CAPM in a Scania context. To achieve a differentiated WACC a new method is created, The JCJ-Method. The method uses an industry index as a benchmark of Scania. The results indicate that APT is the better model for Scania in the differentiating context.<br>Carl-Johan Peel

Abstract:
The introduction of tight regulations on car emissions has posed many problems to carmakers all over the world. The environmental issue has become a fundamental point in an increasing number of board meetings and some managers struggle to find an effective way to solve it. Projecting and creating a low emissions car is not so easy as it could be thought: the engine has to be fixed in order to burn the lower quantity of fuel possible without decreasing the performances; the control unit has to be continuously improved in order to check efficiently the combustion and the exhausts emissions; the exhaust pipe and the other environmental devices installed in the car should work perfectly and last for many years; moreover, lots of other constraints should be taken under consideration. If engineers do not manage to solve all the environmental problems, the easiest way to bypass them is cheating on official tests. The automotive industry has a long history of cheating abortive attempts and the most recent, also called Dieselgate, is the one that involves Volkswagen Group. The German carmaker had intentionally programmed its TDI diesel engines to activate certain emissions controls only during laboratory emissions testing. The central unit programming caused the vehicles' nitrogen oxide (NOx) output to meet U.S. standards only during regulatory testing, but produced up to 40 times higher NOx output in real-world driving. However, further VW's investigations have found that CO2 emissions and fuel consumption figures were also affected by irregularities, increasing the scale of the scandal to other car types. The scandal raised awareness over the higher levels of pollution being emitted by all vehicles built by a wide range of carmakers, which under real world driving conditions are prone to exceed legal emission limits. Software-controlled machinery is generally prone to cheat and the environmental regulatory tests are easily detachable by the control unit, thanks to fixed procedures and long periods without updates or significant changes. Unraveling the knot of internal decision making processes could lead to many interesting insights into this scandal. What are the main incentives for cheating? Did the use of wrong data and manipulated figures help them to obtain advantages in the market place and to manipulate customers’ perceptions? Who is responsible for? Is it a matter of mismanagement or engineers’ misconduct? Why has the two tier organizational structure with a specific independent supervisory board not worked properly? Answering to all these questions is also useful in order to show how companies produce and use statistics for their purpose. Stakeholders must carefully examine all the sources of information provided by organizations around the world. Moreover, this analysis could lead to a deeper understanding of the learning processes inside the companies, which seem not to internalize industry best practices in order to avoid failures.

<p>In Sweden an experimental work of regions is in progress in the regions of Kalmar, Gotland Scania and Västra Götaland since the first of July 1997. The region of Scania was formally found in January 1998. In 1998 the first election to the regional parliament was held. The non-Socialist parties obtained the majority thanks to the support of the right-wing collaboration Skånes väl. The aim of this study is to illustrate the problems concerning the experimental work of the region of Scania, partly by making researches into the formation process, partly through a studie of articles. The study of articles is based on articles that shows the debate and the news coverage of the experimental work of the region of Scania. The subjects that dominates this study are: the public medical service, the non-Socialist parties collaboration with Skånes väl and the debate between the majority and the Opposition. In the concluding chapter the study of articles and the theories are analysed. The study contains theories of structures and agents, implementation and media. Some of the conclusions are that the Moderate party has different opinions about wether to have a regional level or not. The Moderates in Scania are positive while the Moderates on the national level are against. Also the Social democrats are negative. The experimental work of regions also has an inlfuence on the role of agents. The roles of both the county administrative board and the county governor are about to change.</p>

This master thesis was carried out at Scania in Södertälje, Sweden. It investigates the possibility of changing a connector interface that is used when there is a need for splicing the wheel speed sensor and thereby determine the consequences. The problems that exist with the current connector interface occur during assembly, as more time is required to complete a connection in a reliable manner. A complete connection requires joining the male and female connector, insert the connection into a protective retainer and then strap a cable tie on each end of the retainer. This process makes it more time consuming and it requires 20-30 seconds to complete the connection. Solving this problem would save time and enable easier assembly, therefore resulting in economical benefits. This thesis was accomplished through discussions with different sections at Scania, studying available documentations, observations during assembly, writing a requirement specification and contacting suppliers. The aforementioned methods resulted in four connector suggestions, the DT and DTMH connector from Deutsch, MCON connector from TE connectivity and MLK connector from Kostal, each of them compliant with the set demands of the surrounding environment. Finally, the MLK connector from Kostal was decided as the most suitable as it was deemed appropriate by production who found that it has the best feedback. Also, economic wise it saves over 1 000 000 SEK (for 150 000 connections) annually. The suggested connectors need to go through a Scania testing document, TB 1787 before being approved for use. The change of connector affects other components which need to be taken into consideration. The affected components have been mapped out, as well as the sensor variations for trucks, with and without EBS. The conclusion which can be drawn is that it would be beneficial to change the connector interface, as it would save time, money and simplify the assembly process.<br>Detta examensarbete utfördes på Scania i Södertälje, Sverige. Arbetet undersöker möjligheten att byta ett kontaktdonsgränssnitt som används när det finns ett behov för skarvning av hastighetssensor och vilka konsekvenser detta medför. Det problem som finns med nuvarande kontaktdonsgränssnitt är under monteringen då det kräver mer tid för att genomföra en anslutning på ett tillförlitligt sätt. En komplett anslutning kräver koppling av hon- och han kontakt, insättning av anslutningen i en skyddande hållare, varpå två buntband sätts fast på varje ände av hållaren. Detta gör det tidskrävande, det kräver 20-30 sekunder för att slutföra anslutningen. Om detta problem skulle lösas skulle det spara tid och underlättar monteringen, vilket resulterar i ekonomiska fördelar. Examensarbetet realiserades genom diskussioner med olika sektioner på Scania, studier av tillgänglig dokumentation, observationer vid montering, framtagning av kravspecifikation och leverantörskontakt. De ovan nämnda metoderna resulterade i fyra kontaktdonsförslag: DT och DTMH kontakterna från Deutsch, MCON kontakten från TE connectivity och MLK kontakten från Kostal, var och en av dem överensstämmer med de uppsatta kraven som den omgivande miljön ställer. MLK kontakten från Kostal anses vara den bästa kandidaten eftersom den ansågs vara bäst från produktionssidan då den hade den bästa återkopplingen vid kontaktering. Dessutom, ur en ekonomisk synvinkel så sparar den mer än 1 000 000 kronor (för 150 000 anslutningar) årligen. De föreslagna kontakterna behöver gå igenom Scanias testdokument, TB 1787 innan de godkänns för användning. Förändringen av kontakt påverkar andra komponenter som också måste beaktas vid en förändring. Dessa har kartlagts liksom sensorvariationer för lastbilar, med och utan EBS. Den slutsats som kan dras är att det skulle vara fördelaktigt att ändra kontaktdonsgränssnittet, eftersom det skulle spara tid, pengar och förenkla monteringsprocessen.

In a world of fierce competition that is the reality for heavy truck manufacturers, it is important to optimize every step of production to the greatest extent. The Swedish truck manufacturer SCANIA early adopted such ideas and has put great efforts to implement a concept called lean production. As a part of the company’s strive for continuous improvement, all parts of the value adding chain shall be as efficient as possible.  Previously this work has been focused inside the SCANIA organization but as demands on production volume and profit margin increases, focus turns outside the factory premises. A bodywork is fitted as a last step in the completion of many trucks. This is done by external companies called bodybuilders, outside the control of the factory. In this thesis, the bodybuilder induced waste is addressed from a global perspective. The report is entirely based on interviews with people inside SCANIA, SCANIA’s Swedish business unit, bodybuilders in both Sweden and Poland and a Swedish employer’s organization. Through these interviews, the difficulties surrounding the subject have been mapped from different perspectives. As a complement to the interviews, a program that calculates the annual waste related to shortened chassis frames has been developed. The main waste inducing problem areas found in this thesis is: -        Poor communication between seller and bodybuilder before specifying and ordering the chassis. -        Poor communication between factory and bodybuilder regarding existing chassis preparations. -        A high degree of customer involvement in the bodybuilder process on the Swedish market. -        High price sensitivity on the Polish market makes chassis specified without preparations more attractive. -        Highly diverse customer demands on the Swedish market. -        Insufficient ordering tools to meet the customer demands of individually customized vehicles. -        Discrepancies between the global focus at factory and the local nature of the market on which the sellers exist. The costs related to shortened chassis frames alone is estimated to cost SCANIA 5 000 000 SEK annually in terms of reduced chassis frame waste and decreased costs for bound investments when chassis are standing at bodybuilders. In order to go from today’s annual production of 70 000 vehicles to the long-term goal of 150 000 vehicles/year, it will be crucial to reduce waste throughout the whole production chain. This will require better prepared vehicles from factory, better ordering software for the sellers and less rigid customer behaviour on certain markets. The increased communication between seller, bodybuilder and factory will be necessary and could be implemented through cooperation between selected bodybuilders and sellers in a preferred program.

Detta examensarbete gjordes i två syften, att ge Scania teoretiskt underlag till en ny teknik för hantering av personalens från och närvaroplanering, samt implementera den nya tekniken. Scanias dåvarande lösning utnyttjades genom att använda olika Excel-ark, dessa har uppfattats som ineffektiva och krångliga att arbeta med. Detta har lett till en hel del extra administrativt arbete och behovet av en ny lösning definierades till ett examensarbete. Den initiala fasen av projektet handlade om att förstå relevanta processer rörande från och närvaroplanering. Allt eftersom processerna var förstådda definierades krav på den nya lösningen genom kvalitativa metoder och intervjuer med respondenter av olika befattningar från verksamheten. Kraven som erhölls från intervjuerna visade sig vara relativt konsistenta och fastställdes i en kravspecifikation. Kravspecifikationen användes för att utvärdera olika lösningar som valts ut från marknadens utbud. Vidare genomfördes en make or buy analys som gjorde det möjligt att avgöra om lösningen skulle köpas in eller utvecklas internt. Efter interna diskussioner inom Scania, där resultaten från utvärderingen och make or buy analysen analyserades, fattades beslutet att den nya lösningen skulle byggas i en Microsoft SharePoint miljö. Miljön var redan tillgänglig för Scania och implementeringen gjordes i form av en pilotimplementering. Två grupper från Scanias verksamhet fick en förfrågan om de ville agera piloter, i syfte att utvärdera lösningen efter styrkor, svagheter och önskad funktionalitet. Pilotfasen är planerad att starta i början av september 2013.<br>This thesis was done with two-fold purpose, to give Scania a theoretical base for a new technology for management of the personnel presence and absence planning and to implement this new technology. Scanias former solution was utilized by using different Excel sheets and these have been perceived as inefficient and cumbersome to work with. This has led to a lot of additional administrative work and the need for a new solution was defined to this thesis. The initial phase of the project focused on understanding the relevant processes related to the presence and absence planning. When the processes were well understood, requirements on the new system were captured through qualitative methods and interviews with respondents of different positions from the enterprise. The requirements obtained from the interviews proved to be relatively consistent and was defined in a requirement specification. These requirements were used to evaluate different solutions chosen from the commercial stock. In addition, a make or buy analysis were created and made it possible to determine whether the solution would be bought or developed internally. After internal discussions within Scania, where the results from the alternative solution evaluation and the make or buy analysis was considered, it was decided that the new solution would be built in a Microsoft SharePoint environment. The environment was already available for Scania and the implementation was done as a pilot implementation. Two groups from Scanias enterprise was asked to act pilots, in order to evaluate the solution by strengths, weaknesses and desired functionalities. The pilot phase is planned to start in early September 2013.

Vici Industri AB är ett företag som tillverkar vipparmar vilket är en ingående komponent i förbränningsmotorer. Segmentet som företaget verkar inom är den tunga fordonsindustrin och de är leverantör åt bland annat Scania och Volvo. Scanias vipparmar tillverkas i en produktionsprocess som kallas Scania DL. Uppgiften som tilldelades syftade till att undersöka nuvarande kapacitet, ta fram valid simulering för att därigenom påvisa kostnadseffektiva åtgärder. Data som krävdes för att validera simulering fanns inte i dåvarande dagsläge och därför krävdes ett grundligt undersökande av produktionsprocessens kapacitet. Det genomfördes även för att påvisa de brister som fanns i nuläget. Flertalet produktionstekniska verktyg användes till analysering för att nå korrekt rotorsak och utifrån det togs förslag, till åtgärder att tillämpa, fram. Dessutom togs valid simulering fram som användes för att experimentera och påvisa effekten av de framtagna åtgärderna. Genom initial stopptidsuppföljning gick det bland annat att belysa att reaktionstiden stod för cirka 35 % av stopptiden. Dessutom framkom de stopporsaker med högst frekvens som stod för största delen av stopptiden. Efter analysering av orsaker och framtagna åtgärder visades en möjlighet att i genomsnitt öka output med cirka 10 %. Arbetet i sig har gett en möjlighet att lyfta fram de slöserier som förekommer i produktionsprocessen och med hjälp av det framföra förbättringspotential.

With changing market demands such as individualization, volatility and sustainability, the current manufacturing environment at Scania is subject to an increasing need for change. This, together with the availability of more advanced technology and digitalization has sparked the fourth industrial revolution. It has been named Industry 4.0 and considers digitalization in a manufacturing environment. As a result, the purpose of this thesis is to outline the potential of increased digitalization for logistics and manufacturing at Scania Oskarshamn. This will be done by developing a digitalization strategy that encapsulates the core of Industry 4.0 and a roadmap to guide Scania in their development towards a future digitalized manufacturing environment. The study will consider two core functions of Industry 4.0 as the cornerstones of digitalization; consciousness and interoperability. Consciousness focuses on the level of digitalization within the system. With interoperability, integration throughout the whole supply chain and how it relates to the manufacturing environment. As a result, the study is separated into three main parts: Scania today, Scania 2030 and the gap in-between. For all three parts, three areas of focus will be the basis for the analysis. First, the level of digitalization will be analyzed. This is done in regards to the first core function, consciousness. Second, the level of process maturity will be analyzed. This is done in regards to the second core function, interoperability. Third, synergies between logistics and manufacturing will be analyzed. From the conducted analysis of the current state at Scania, the 2030 scenario and the gap inbetween, the digitalization strategy for Scania focuses on the two identified functions. Three key steps has been developed for each function.

Since the earliest days of the American republic, political sex scandals have been a part of the political discourse. Despite the passing of several hundred years, much discussion is still given to political sex scandals by the popular media. Little attention, however, is paid to research into the relationship among political sex scandals, the media reporting of sex scandals, and the ways in which politicians are able to use the media during admissions of sex scandals. This project analyzes the most common characteristics within three major newspapers reporting on five cases of gubernatorial admissions of extramarital affairs. The multiple case studies analysis observes 89 newspaper articles to secure data from the initial speculation of a gubernatorial extramarital affair to the admission of an extramarital affair and the period of time (up to one month) following the admission of an extramarital affair.<br>Master of Arts

Technical products are becoming more and more complex, this means that the drivers, mechanics and service personnel’s need for assistance such as the service literature is increasing. In this degree project the focus is on the technical manuals of Scania’s Workshop Manual. Today, the information in the Workshop Manual consists of collaboration between text and illustrations. Many users of the Workshop Manual are excluded since the information is text-based and some of the users are illiterate. The purpose of this degree project was to develop guidelines for how Scania may, through more visual information, design the Workshop Manual to include all users. I had contact with mechanics at Scania’s internal workshop to customize the design of the information in the Workshop Manual of the target group needs. Through various methods and theories in information design, it turned out that drivers, mechanics and service personnel need two different stages of information in the manuals depending on the level of knowledge. Step 1 is for experienced drivers, mechanics and service personnel who need concise information. Step 2 is for those with less experience who need more support in the form of more detailed information. In common, regardless of skill, the target group wants and needs more image-driven information. From this, I designed a manual in two steps that are tailored to the target group.<br>Tekniska produkter blir mer och mer komplexa och detta gör att förare, mekaniker och servicepersonals behov efter stöd som bland annat servicelitteratur ökar. I detta examensarbete fokuserar jag på tekniska manualer i Scanias Servicehandbok. I dagsläget består informationen i Servicehandbokens manualer av ett samspel mellan text och illustrationer. Detta gör att många av Servicehandbokens användare exkluderas då en stor del anser att manualerna är för textbaserade samt att en del användare har läs- och skrivsvårigheter. Syftet med detta arbete var att ta fram riktlinjer för hur Scania kan, genom mer visuell information, utforma Servicehandboken för att inkludera alla användare. Under arbetets gång har jag haft kontakt med mekaniker på Scanias interna verkstad för att anpassa utformningen av informationen i Servicehandbokens manualer efter målgruppens behov. Genom olika metoder och teorier inom informationsdesign visade det sig att förare, mekaniker och servicepersonal behöver två olika steg i manualerna beroende av kunskapsnivå. Steg 1 är för erfarna förare, mekaniker och servicepersonal som behöver kortfattad information och steg 2 är för de med mindre erfarenhet som behöver mer stöd i form av utförligare information. Gemensamt, oavsett kunskapsnivå, var att målgruppen vill ha och behöver mer bilddriven information. Utifrån detta utformade jag en manual i två steg som är anpassade efter målgruppens behov.

Rapporten presenterar ett antal olika metoder för problemlösning och strategier för att på ett effektivare sätt hantera kvalitetsavvikelser i monteringslinor. De i rapporten huvudsakligen avhandlade strategierna är poka-yoke och In-Process Verification (IPV), som är en strategi för kvalitetsförbättring genom att den minskar behovet av omfattande och i regel ineffektiv End-of-Line Testing genom att den underlättar rotorsaksanalys.För att verifiera strategierna har författarna genomfört ett projekt för Scanias motormontering där ledningen önskar halvera antalet inkomna avvikelserapporter från sina kunder. Baserat på Scanias interna statistik har författarna analyserat nuläget och identifierat områden med störst förbättringspotential och som därefter analyserats vidare. Författarna har därefter föreslagit lösningar baserat på IPV och poka-yoke-principen där det varit möjligt eller presenterat områden som behöver utredas vidare av Scanias personal.Författarna anser att motormonteringen bör avsätta ytterligare resurser för att förbättra arbetet med In-Process Verification för att halvera antalet avvikelser. Målet är realistiskt men för att det ska nås krävs att motormonteringen arbetar med bland annat funktionskontroller av sensorer och kablar för att på så sätt kunna upptäcka var i hanteringen av dessa som avvikelser uppstår. Ytterligare ett förslag är att uppgradera dagens Q-zon i måleriet till en Quality Gate som är en renodlad slutbesiktning av den montering som sker i måleriet.<br>This paper presents a number of different methods and aspects for quality improvement and solving issues regarding quality in assembly lines. The main strategies presented in the paper are poka-qoke and In-Process Verification (IPV), which is a strategy for quality improvement as it decreases the need for extensive and generally ineffective End-of-Line Testing by easing root cause analysis.To verify the presented strategies, the authors have completed a project for the management at Scania’s engine assembly department who aims to cut the number of received deviation reports in half. Using Scania’s internal statistics, the authors have analyzed the present situation and selected areas with the greatest potential for improvement and conducted further analysis. The authors have suggested solutions based on IPV and poka-yoke principles where possible, or presentented areas that need further investigation by Scania’s personnel.The authors suggest that Scania’s engine assembly department should allocate more resources to improve the use of In-Process Verification to be able to halve the number of incoming deviation reports. It is realistic and possible to reach the set goal, but it requires that the engine assembly department implement function tests of sensors and cables, thus discovering where in the process these deviations occur. Another suggestion is to upgrade the current Q-zone in the paint shop to a Quality Gate that is a dedicated final inspection of the parts that are assembled in the paint shop

Fuel Optimization Unit (FOU) is part of an new system for the low pressure fuel circuit (LPFC) designed for Scania’s combustion engines. The system replaces engine mounted, mechanically driven, fuel feed pump and pre filter. One FOU variant (Type 1) pushes fuel through the pre filter using an additional electrical fuel pump and utilizes a small volume of fuel as a buffer, mainly to increase water separation performance. The second variant (Type 3) is similar to a conventional LPFC but uses an electric feed pump. The thesis investigate prerequisites and possible limitations when introducing FOU in Scania’s bus program. The investigation also compare Type 1 with Type 3 to determine if any technology is preferable. Among others, the investigation finds: • Type 1 is because of its size more difficult to house but is because of design less sensitive for placement in the chassis compared to Type 3. • CAN communication with electric fuel pumps risks disturbances due to potentially long cables. • Pressure drop in fuel lines is not identifies as an limitation for Type 1 but length is recommended to minimize on the low pressure side of the feed pump for Type 3. • There is an risk that fuel return temperature decrease between engine and fuel tank causing clogging of pre filter due to wax formation at low temperatures. • Number of start/stops and operating hours is a potential limitation for electrical fuel pumps. • Drainage of engine mounted main filter to the catch tank in FOU Type 1 may work non satisfactory if the fuel lines are routed badly. • The air conducted sound level caused by electrical fuel pumps is not identified as a problem. However, structural conducted sound may cause disturbance for passengers if the attachment is carelessly designed. Comparison between the variants indicates that Type 1 is preferable. Type 1 catch points mainly due to the use of catch tank but loses points mainly related to size, mass and complexity which results in a presumably high cost. Type 3 is similar to present LPFC but holds a number of advantages shared with Type 1. Both Type 1 and Type 3 are identified as clear improvements compared with current LPFC.<br>Fuel Optimization Unit (FOU) är en del av ett nytt lågtrycksbränslesystem avsett för Scanias förbränningsmotorer. Systemet ersätter motormonterad, mekaniskt driven, matarpump och förfilter. FOU utvecklas i två varianter som har gemensamt en chassimonterad elektrisk matarpump och förfilter. Den ena varianten (Typ 1) trycker bränsle genom förfiltret med hjälp av en ytterligare elektrisk bränslepump och utnyttjar en mindre volym bränsle som buffert bl.a. för att förbättra vattenseparering. Den andra varianten (Typ 3) liknar till stor del ett konventionellt lågtrycksbränslesystem men med elektriskt driven matarpump. Examensarbetet utreder förutsättningar och möjliga hinder att introducera FOU på Scanias bussar. I utredningen jämförs även Typ 1 med Typ 3 för att avgöra om någon teknik är att föredra. Utredningen finner bl.a. att:• Typ 1 är pga. sin storlek svårare att bereda plats för men pga. sin konstruktion mindre känslig för placering jämfört Typ 3. • CAN-kommunikation med elektriska pumpar riskerar störningar pga. potentiellt långa ledningslängder. • Tryckfall i bränsleledningar utgör ingen hinder hos Typ 1 men ledningslängderna bör minimeras på matarpumpens sugsida hos Typ 3. • Det föreligger en risk att returbränsletemperaturen svalnar såpass mycket mellan motor och FOU att förfiltret sätts igen av paraffinering vid kall väderlek. • Antal start/stopp och drifttimmar utgör möjligen en begränsning för elektriska pumpar. • Dränering av finfiltret på motorn till catch-tanken i FOU Typ 1 riskerar att fungera otillfredsställande om bränsleledningarna dras ogynnsamt. • Den luftburna ljudnivån från de elektriska bränslepumparna bedöms inte vara oroväckande hög men är beroende på infästning då strukturburet ljud kan vara störande för passagerare. Jämförelse mellan varianterna indikerar att Typ 1 är att föredra. Typ 1 får många pluspoäng i huvudsak förknippade med förekomsten av bufferttank men också med en hel del minuspoäng i huvudsak relaterade till storlek, vikt och komplexitet vilket också resulterar i ett förmodat högt pris. Typ 3 liknar till stor del befintligt lågtrycksbränslesystem men innehar en del tydliga fördelar som den till stor del delar med Typ 1. Både FOU Typ 1 och Typ 3 identifieras som tydliga förbättringar gentemot befintligt lågtrycksbränslesystem.

Abstract:
Blockchain technology emerged in 2009 together with the introduction of Bitcoin, the first virtual currency which enabled nodes in a network, that do not necessarily trust each other, to exchange digital value without the use of trusted intermediaries. Since then, the idea of disintermediation and decentralization has gained traction in a large number of applications outside the world of finance and virtual currencies. This thesis is written in collaboration with Scania, an automotive industry manufacturer, with the purpose of gaining a better understanding of blockchain technology and how it can be used in the transportation industry. This thesis proposes five potential blockchain use cases that aim to either enhance Scania’s existing services or to create new services. Out of these five use cases, one is deemed inappropriate in regards to the use of blockchain technology while the other four have potentials benefits. The common denominator among these use cases is that they are decentralized in nature meaning that the use of intermediaries is mitigated. It is recognized that all use cases could be implemented using traditional, centralized databases and that the use of blockchain boils down to a technology choice with its own trade-offs relative to other potential choices. This thesis concludes that blockchain technology offers a new kind of database architecture, the main benefit of which is that it lets several non-trusting entities agree on a common set of facts, without having a trusted intermediary establishing these facts.

<p>This Master of Science thesis in Information Technology Engineering highlights and investigates some aspects of creating a new Software Development Kit (SDK) for the Scania Interactor using Microsoft .Net.</p><p>The contents of the SDK is specified, and an Interactor Development Kit (IDK), the software components of the SDK, is designed with an architecture that includes a service in order to handle data propagation and initialization, and class libraries for referencing by Interactor applications.</p><p>For the service, the traditional distributed technology .Net Remoting is compared to the new technology Windows Communication Foundation, and .Net Remoting is found to be most appropriate since it supports full type fidelity and can be integrated in the IDK in a flexible way.</p><p>The IDK supports access control in order to provide exclusive access to some of its functionality from applications developed by Scania. Access control is implemented using Microsoft strong names for assemblies, and using strong name access restricted objects, the Remoting call context, and a custom sink for the service. The part of the IDK that manages CAN data propagation is implemented together with a mechanism for parameterized subscriptions of events, something that has been requested by end users.</p><p>A sample application is also implemented that uses a modified version of the IDK, which aquires data through the old SDK instead of a future black box over IP.</p>

Manufacturing companies today experience a more competitive market than ever, with increased demands on customization, quality and shorter life cycles. Shorter life cycles makes time to market for new products a crucial factor in retaining or even gaining market share. Many companies have structured their product development process to have a systematic work method that is integrated with other functions in the company such as production, purchasing and marketing. At Scania this work started during the 1980’s and has been ongoing with continuous improvements ever since. Due to increased demands from a more competitive market the need to structure the participation of the production units in the product development process to shorten the lead time of product development projects. This study aims to investigate how the engine production unit at Scania can be integrated in the product development process as early as possible. By studying literature in the area of product development, a general picture of the product development process has been obtained, as well as some methods for integrating production and design departments during the product development process. A comparative case study has been performed at Scania, Sandvik Coromant and Atlas Copco Rock Drills. Their internal product development processes has been mapped as well as their organizations and roles connected to the development and introduction of new products. The interface between production and design has been investigated with focus on meeting forums, information exchange and other work methods that are established within the companies. As a result some recommendations have been given to Scania on how to improve the participation of the engine production in the product development process. The recommendations start with educating the staff on already existing methods in process planning and the product development process. Secondly the engine manufacturing at Scania must decide to invest time and resources in developing their internal development process. The development of the engine manufacturing internal product development process should start with the general product development process at Scania, secondly it should focus on aligning the activities in process planning with the phases of the general product development process. Finally more detailed activities should be defined under each phase with clear defined responsibilities and lead times. By defining an internal product development process Scania’s engine manufacturing will be better prepared to participate in product development projects. By having defined activities, responsibilities and lead times it will be easier to contribute to the planning of the product development project, aswell as it will be easier to allocate project resources internally. Kortare livscykel gör Time to market för nya produkter till en avgörande faktor för att bibehålla eller till och med vinna marknadsandelar. Många företag har strukturerat sin produktutvecklingsprocess för att ha ett systematiskt arbetssätt där konstruktion är integrerat med andra funktioner inom företaget så som produktion, inköp och marknad. Scania påbörjade sitt arbete med att strukturera produktutvecklingsprocessen under 1980-talet och har utvecklat det med ständiga förbättringar sedan dess. På grund av hårdare krav från en mer konkurrenskraftig marknad har man sett behovet att strukturera hur produktionsenheterna deltar i produktutvecklingsprocessen för att nå kortare ledtider i produktutvecklingsprojekt. Denna studie syftar till att undersöka hur motortillverkningen på Scania kan integreras i produktutvecklingsprocessen så tidigt som möjligt. Genom att studera litteratur inom produktutveckling har en allmän bild av produktutvecklingsprocessen erhållits, dessutom har några metoder för att integrera produktion och konstruktion i produktutvecklingsprocessen. En jämförande fallstudie har genomförts på Scania, Sandvik Coromant och Atlas Copco Rock Drills. Deras interna produktutvecklingsprocesser har kartlagts samt deras organisationer och roller kopplade till utveckling och introduktion av nya produkter. Gränssnittet mellan produktion och konstruktion har undersökts med fokus på mötesforum, informationsutbyte och andra arbetssätt som är etablerade inom företagen. Som ett resultat har rekommendationer getts till Scania på hur man kan förbättra deltagandet från motortillverkningen i produktutvecklingsprocessen. Rekommendationerna inleder med utbildning av personalen i befintliga arbetsmetoder, främst gällande produktionsberedning, men även produktutvecklingsprocessen. Nästa steg som rekommenderas är för motortillverkningen att investera tid och resurser för att utveckla en intern produktutvecklingsprocess. Utvecklingen av en intern produktutvecklingsprocess bör starta med att titta på Scanias globala produktutvecklingsprocess, efter det bör aktiviteterna i produktionsberedningsprocessen linjeras med faserna i produktutvecklingsprocessen. Till slut bör detaljerade aktiviteter i varje fas definieras med tydliga ansvarsfördelningar och ledtider. Genom att definiera en intern produktutvecklingsprocess kommer Scanias motortillverkning vara bättre förberedda för att delta aktivt i produktutvecklingsprojekt. När aktiviteter, ansvarsfördelning och ledtider är definierade blir det lättare att delta aktivt i planeringen av produktutvecklingsprojekt, samtidigt som det även kommer vara lättare att tilldela interna resurser till projektet. Abstract:
Detta examensarbete har genomförts under våren 2016 på uppdrag av Scania Industrial Maintenance AB. Målet med arbetet var att finna en teknisk och ekonomisk lösning för installation av högtempererade komfortkylsystem i Scanias kontorslokaler, anslutna till dagens returledning i fjärrkylanätet. Den tekniska lösningen har funnits genom en serie analyser där tankemetodiken kan sammanfattas som ”nuläge respektive högtempererat läge”. Arbetet behandlar ett pilotprojekt, där en installationslösning för en konkret kontorslokal hos Scania tagits fram. Dessutom har analyser tagits fram för ett fiktivt referenskontor och flertalet kylbatterier med avsikten att underlätta framtida projekteringar.   I arbetet utfördes en analys av komfortkylsystemen på kontorsnivå, där bland annat inomhusklimat, ventilation och kylbaffelsystem innefattades. I denna analys beskrivs utifrån intervjuer med tillverkare vart utvecklingen står kring kylbaffelsystem, samt dess prestanda och dimensionerande parametrar. Det fastslogs i detta arbete att kylbaffelsystem från leverantörerna Halton och Lindab anpassade för högtempererad drift fungerar för drift i Scanias kontorslokaler, och i anslutning till Scanias fjärrkylanät.   Gällandes kylbatterier för kylning av tilluft fastslogs i detta arbete att möjligheterna för konvertering till högtempererad drift är möjlig beroende på hur kylbatteriet dimensionerats i lågtempererat utförande. Eftersom flertalet av Scanias kylbatterier redan idag är underdimensionerade för drift enligt Scanias tekniska riktlinjer VVS, är det generella svaret dock att kylbatteriet i samband med konvertering kommer behöva bytas till en större modell.   Beräkningsmodeller utförda i Microsoft Excel och experimentella körningar av den fjärrkyla-värmeväxlare som förser Scania tekniskt centrum med fjärrkyla visade att integreringen av högtempererade komfortkylsystem medför förbättrade driftförhållanden och en sänkt primärflödesförbrukning i samband med konverteringar av kylsystemen i befintliga kontorslokaler. En bra punkt att hämta returkyla lokaliserades i byggnad 118, som även valdes att studera vidare som ett pilotprojekt.   Om komfortkylbehovet ökar hos Scania så är högtempererad kyla ansluten till fjärrkylans returledning ett bra alternativ till de traditionella lågtempererade systemen. Eftersom fjärrkylnätet idag är nästintill fullt utnyttjat så blir konsekvenserna av ytterligare lågtempererade installationer att kylmaskiner måste köras. Högtempererade komfortkylsystem har ett lägre komponentpris än lågtemperatursystem, men kräver pump- och rörsystem för att förse systemen med returkyla.   I pilotprojektet, lokaliserad i byggnad 118, norra flygeln plan 12 fastslogs att en konvertering till högtempererad kyla är genomförbar. Ett utbyte av kylbafflarna 1:1 medförde att den totala netto kyleffekten till lokalen kunde bibehållas för kylbaffelsystem från Lindab, vid en inomhustemperaturökning från  till . Den totala installationskostnaden för konvertering med kylbaffelsystem från Lindab respektive Halton beräknades till 648 respektive 500 SEK/m2. Pilotprojektet är ett bra sätt att samla erfarenheter samt utvärdera systemen på, bland annat kan det faktiska kylvätskebehovet mätas, vilket är en viktig parameter inför framtida projekteringar.
