Abstract:
The Bulletin of the Institute of Natural Sciences of the Federal University of Santa Maria was a scientific journal, pub lished between 1962 and 1968. It represented a vehicle for research carried out at the Institute of Natural Sciences of the newly created Federal University of Santa Maria. The articles published addressed mainly the phytogeography and paleontology of the region. The main contributor and mentor of the journal was Prof. Romeu Beltrão, man of multiple interests. He was a doctor, historian, high school teacher, professor, writer, botanist, paleontologist. The pioneering "Bulletin" is discussed within the evolution of research and pos-graduate studies at the university in which it arises. We also discussed the potential of this material to address the Nature of Science, and how scientific development is tied to the social and historical conditions in which it is embedded.

Abstract:
Considering the organizational practices and financing of strict post-graduate studies existing in Germany this article intends to prepare an alignment proposal in the areas of research that the Postgraduate Program in Industrial Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Maria/RS (PPGEP-UFSM) can adopt to stimulate regional industries to fund research on the course. Therefore, they analyzed 29 companies that are part of the Regional Development Council region and has Santa Maria/RS as county seat. Data were collected by the Registry of the Industrial Federation of Industries of Rio Grande do Sul State, Economy and Statistics Foundation and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. To adopt a graduate of the financing model similar to that practiced in Germany, it is recommended that the PPGEP-UFSM seek greater affinity between their lines of research and production activities of regional industries. It is suggested that the program develops research in machinery compatible with that produced in the region for the production of food production technologies and also to improve the handling and processing of grain and meat, thus enabling local industries an improvement in conditions competitiveness.

Abstract:
The porticoes, together with medieval masonry towers, are the architectural element which mainly characterizes the city of Bologna, northern Italy. These porticoes, which extend all inside the city centre for a total length of almost 40 kilometres, have a high artistic and cultural relevance at the point that they are candidates as “Unesco World Heritage Site”. One of portico of highest heritage value is that next to the church of Santa Maria dei Servi, which is suffering important structural pathologies requiring urgent strengthening interventions. The ones strictly necessary to preserve the stability have been already implemented. It is known that for historical constructions appropriate strategies of interventions are to be adopted with special attention in the aspects related to the compatibility, durability, integrity of the original configuration. The aim of this paper is to identify the main criticalities and priorities of interventions. Based on the identified criticalities and priorities possible strategies of interventions are finally identified. A possible cause of the actual bad state of conservation could be related to the continues vibrations induced by the traffic. For this reason, measurements noises have been recently conducted by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in order to quantify their influence of the stress levels of the columns of the portico.

Abstract:
This study aimed to evaluate the degree of satisfaction of users of the subunits of the Health Sciences Center of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). To achieve this objective, an evaluation survey instrument based on the SERVQUAL model was used, in order to assess the quality of services and it was applied to users of services provided by the board of the center. In data analysis, there was a considerably high level of satisfaction perceived by users. In addition, it was found that for most respondents, the working hours of the center were satisfactory and they consider that the board staff treats people politely. It was also pointed out that users agreed that the members of the board demonstrated to have knowledge of the administrative routines of UFSM. On the other hand, it was clear that respondents do not consider that bureaucracy contributes to improve the quality of services and that the center´s management provides individualized services to the subunits. Moreover, it is noteworthy that one of the main weaknesses, which should be given more attention by the managers of the Health Sciences Center, is related to the infrastructure of the unit, since the aspects related to this issue are among the least positively evaluated. The survey also revealed that there was a difference in the evaluation between the gender of the respondents regarding some aspects related to quality and that those teachers who hold management positions, staff with over ten years of experience in UFSM and those with more than three years in the position tended to evaluate more negatively several quality attributes.

Abstract:
Varinder K. Aggarwal of the University of Bristol described (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2010, 49, 6673) the conversion of the Sharpless-derived epoxide 1 into the cyclopropane 2. Christopher D. Bray of Queen Mary University of London established (Chem. Commun. 2010, 46, 5867) that the related conversion of 3 to 5 proceeded with high diastereocontrol. Javier Read de Alaniz of the University of California, Santa Barbara, extended (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2010, 49, 9484) the Piancatelli rearrangement of a furyl carbinol 6 to allow inclusion of an amine 7, to give 8. Issa Yavari of Tarbiat Modares University described (Synlett 2010, 2293) the dimerization of 9 with an amine to give 10. Jeremy E. Wulff of the University of Victoria condensed (J. Org. Chem. 2010, 75, 6312) the dienone 11 with the commercial butadiene sulfone 12 to give the highly substituted cyclopentane 13. Robert M. Williams of Colorado State University showed (Tetrahedron Lett. 2010, 51, 6557) that the condensation of 14 with formaldehyde delivered the cyclopentanone 15 with high diastereocontrol. D. Srinivasa Reddy of Advinus Therapeutics devised (Tetrahedron Lett. 2010, 51, 5291) conditions for the tandem conjugate addition/intramolecular alkylation conversion of 16 to 17. Marie E. Krafft of Florida State University reported (Synlett 2010, 2583) a related intramolecular alkylation protocol. Takao Ikariya of the Tokyo Institute of Technology effected (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 11414) the enantioselective Ru-mediated hydrogenation of bicyclic imides such as 18. This transformation worked equally well for three-, four-, five-, six-, and seven-membered rings. Stefan France of the Georgia Institute of Technology developed (Org. Lett. 2010, 12, 5684) a catalytic protocol for the homo-Nazarov rearrangement of the doubly activated cyclopropane 20 to the cyclohexanone 21. Richard P. Hsung of the University of Wisconsin effected (Org. Lett. 2010, 12, 5768) the highly diastereoselective rearrangement of the triene 22 to the cyclohexadiene 23. Strategies for polycyclic construction are also important. Sylvain Canesi of the Université de Québec devised (Org. Lett. 2010, 12, 4368) the oxidative cyclization of 24 to 25.

Abstract:

Diagonal, 649. 08028 Barcelona E-mail: bissolati27@hotmail.it Keywords (3-5): Territorial city, territorial grid, accumulation process, relief of innovative elements. Conference topics and scale: City transformations The crisis of the traditional city, with its morphological characteristics, has been largely debated. The new urban phenomenon has almost always been described as antithetical; by contrary this article interrogates the possibility of reading a continuity between the traditional and the contemporary city. The article brings forth the concept that the territory can be described as an urban phenomenon result of a change of scale of the city, and offers the definition of the contemporary city as Territorial City (Città-Territorio). The article recovers this term introduced in the 70’s by the Italian morphological school, to emphasize the continuity with the European traditional morphological schools, taking advantage of its learnings, to compare the traditional city, with the contemporary city. The relevance of a morphological approach in the study of the contemporary Territorial City is discussed through an excursus of the main European schools’ contributions, with a particular schematization due to geographical areas. From the synthesis of these references emerges a basis for the definition of a Taxonomy organised around tree main elements that constitute the urban grid. Moreover, the article proposes a methodology for the analysis of the Territorial City that use the Taxonomy as reading tool; this method, illustrated through his experimentation on the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona, is of particular relevance towards the interpretation of the dynamics that have characterised the morphology of the current urban phenomenon, describing its aggregation logics and decomposing the historical-procedural continuum. Abstract:
