Abstract:
This book focuses primarily on Charles Sanders Peirce's realism, pragmatism, and theism, with attention to his tychism and synechism. It is a collection of the author's essays on Peirce. The essays run counter to many selective readings of Peirce, including those encouraged by his friend and champion, William James. The influence of Bernard Lonergan and John E. Smith on the author is clear throughout. In the book, the author brought several distinctive assets to his scholarship. First, his appreciation and understanding of medieval philosophy enriched his discussion of John Duns Scotus's influence on Peirce's “scholastic realism.” Second, a background in the history of science and mathematics generated careful discussions of Peirce's analysis of probability in physics and of the continuum in mathematics. Finally, knowledge of theology yielded fruitful explorations of Peirce's argument of God's reality as vaguely like a man.

Abstract:
This chapter covers the late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century shift toward a new brand of postassimilatory and postfeminist joke-work. It highlights select material by celebrity Jewish female comics from the 1990s though the present. An “appropriative license” of select comic material conjoins the reappropriative and misappropriative effects of women performing Jewishly in a zeitgeist of American comedy. Self-ironizing performances by Sandra Bernhard, Sarah Silverman, and Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer illustrate how comics slide among race, gender, and sex identities to play up their progressive politics and white guilt in an era of newfound access to mainstream comedy.

Abstract:
Today, the trend towards digitalisation has become commonplace everywhere and is changing expectations and goals. Organisations involved in welfare management and the social economy are having to take this development into account as far as their resources and above all their employees are concerned. More than ever, it is becoming clear that digitalisation no longer represents a future trend but is dominating the present, as its effects can already be observed in companies and organisations or in welfare management and the social economy and beyond. The diverse and testing challenges posed by digitalisation are clear. This publication emphasises the importance of dealing with this complex subject comprehensively and, so to speak, systematically in tandem with an experienced-based focus. Abstract:
The chapters in this edited volume include a vibrant mix of scholars from political science, sociology, criminology, law, and practical experiences. This volume is the first of its kind in German-speaking countries addressing the complex issue of ‘drugs, darknet and organized crime’. The multidisciplinary approaches to the new phenomenon demonstrate that cryptomarkets poses a multi-layered challenge. Classical concepts like ‘organized crime’ need to be expanded and call for new explanatory approaches. Organisational structures of anonymous online drug markets must be reassessed. Likewise, the development of cryptomarkets has implications for drug policy regarding drug prevention, drug counselling, criminal investigation and the judiciary. Finally, the question arises how to best regulate both offline and online drug markets. In view of those challenges, the various contributions in this reader deal with actors, underlying structures and economic transactions on drug markets in the Internet.
