Full textThe fundamental question of the thesis is the causes of the persistence, rootedness and diffusion of Pentecostalism in many popular urban sectors of Peru, especially among the poorest. There are new answers to this old question centered on the role that the body and emotions have in the centrality that Pentecostalism gives to the individual in this religious system. Ritual practices, beliefs, discourses, forms of integration, participation and other elements of the Pentecostal system act on the symbolic mechanisms of individuation to redefine the perceptions, conceptions and relations of the Pentecostals with respect to their own bodies. It is argued that as a result of a process of "transformation”, rather than "conversion", the Pentecostal consciously and unconsciously makes the body a fundamental center of its new religious identity and identity, legitimizing it through baptism in the spirit and its production of charismatic gifts that sacralizes its corporeality, and sustaining it through the rigorous and nourished system of ethical norms for the care and control of the conduct, body and person in daily life. The efficacy of the Pentecostal ethic lies in its strong emotional and moral dimension, while the fear of returning to the old social and religious condition of origin, give to the care of the body, "spiritual temple", a central role in personal and social life. This is a functional condition to sectors that find in Pentecostal change a way of promotion and social "improvement”. The thesis shows that, in fact Pentecostalism's opposition to peruvian catholicism and popular culture is relative, since both religious cultures share symbols and emotions on which they construct their imaginaries. Beliefs such as the devil, ghosts, specters, among others, are extremely important in the construction of Pentecostal culture and are also part of the link between Pentecostalism and popular Catholicism. Such beliefs have a social and political meaning that reflect the social worlds in opposition and dispute. It is concluded that the success of Pentecostalism in the sectors that assume it lies in its capacity of symbolic articulation of two social worlds in tension, through the Pentecostal culture that focuses on the individual and gives centrality to the body in the process of religious change. The research describes and analyzes the process of emergence, development and transformation of a Pentecostal church in the popular district of San Juan de Lurigancho where this complex individual transformation of the Pentecostals is observed. Other districts and popular areas have also been considered for comparison purposes. The method used has been the ethnographic with participant observation and its approach is fundamentally qualitative, centered on narratives and life histories, in-depth interviews, questionnaires and surveys

Full textThis thesis describes the factors that contribute to capabilities building in disasters risk management for school principals and teachers from the Lurigancho-Chosica district, under the multisectoral program for Disasters Vulnerability Reduction and Emergency Assistance (PREVAED - Programa de Reducción de la Vulnerabilidad y Atención de Emergencias por Desastres), known in the education sector as: PREVAED Escuela Segura. The general objective of the research is to find out if the implementation of the PREVAED Escuela Segura program has contributed to strengthen the capacities of the principals and teachers in disaster risk management and prevention culture, to propose improvement measures that strengthen the program implementation. This is a qualitative investigation for which the following activities were conducted: semistructure interviews, focus groups, direct observation, documentary reviews, analysis of the participatory development of risk management instruments process as essential tools for schools, indicators of participation and commitment of the disaster risk management committees of the schools selected for this research. Among the relevant findings for Social Management, it is worth highlighting that the capacity building workshops, the technical assistance sessions and pedagogical support have made it possible to sensitize the main actors of the educational community to a large extent and have laid the foundations for building a culture for disaster risk prevention. Among the evidences found we can point out that schools have managed to incorporate risk management in their planning processes and management tools such as risk management plans for each school, as well as contingency plans for high intensity earthquakes and mudslides. The relevance of this research for Social Management lies in, firstly: recognizing the importance of capacity building to achieve the construction of a culture of disaster risk prevention in the educational community. Secondly, to show that there are limitations in the schools for the implementation of PREVAED Escuela Segura.

Full textThe aim of this research thesis is to explore the representations of masculinity within a group of single mothers from San Juan de Lurigancho, one of the biggest districts in Lima, Peru. The design is qualitative, using a case study perspective, which allowed us to understand the construction of representations of masculinity. The main technique used for data recollection was deep interview by means of conversational systems introduced by Gonzales Rey (2007). Based on the narratives shared by these women, a qualitative analysis allowed us to extract the central mainstay and its corresponding categories, which allowed to realize the important aspects in the representations. The results were interpreted using a psychoanalytic and social perspective. It is expected that this information may be useful for future intervention programs among the population.

Full textThe Project focuses on being a place that promotes the social inclusión of people with disabilities in Northeast Lima. In order to do this, the architecture is developed to be a rehabilitation space, both for people who acquired the disability and for the community in wich they seek to reinsert themselves. A research and analysis on architecture and rehabilitation was carried out, deepening in the applied theories of healthcare design, accesible design, and integral rehabilitation programs. In this way, the functional packages are organized according to the spatial needs of each phase that the patient goes through, developing the project from the inside out, generating a sequence of spaces with functions that go from the most private to the most public, and that go hand in hand with the patient in the stages of rehabilitation. In order to determine the best placing for the project, different principles were analyzed at the macro (district) and micro (terrain) levels, defining as best place the land located at Agua Marina St. in SJL. Due to the importance of the community, the project seeks to have a correct relationship with its context, solving problems of the place, maintaining axes and urban morphology, respecting the surrounding materials and their composition, mimicking the context and generating accessible public spaces that, besides being able to be enjoyed by the neighbors, promote in them the inclusion of this sector of the population and break the thought that disability is incapacity. The project aims to reduce all barriers (physical, psychological, urban, architectural and social) that arise before a person who acquires a disability, through the formal design of their spaces, its programming of functional packages, its location and its relationship with the context and the community.

Full textThe present research work has its origin in the initial analysis that we carried out regarding the manufacturing industries that have had worse performances because of the slowdown on the economy in recent years. Precisely, one of the sectors that caught our attention was the one that corresponded to the ISIC code: 1071, "Manufacture of Bakery Products", since we observed an accumulated decrease of 28.5% during the past twelve months. Subsequently, based on our descriptive and explanatory research and searching through primary and secondary sources, we found that in recent years, some of the baking businesses (apparently with a greater affluence of consumers), had extended their offer of products and services, encompassing the commercialization of grocery store products and even services such as the cafeteria. This to our concept had the characteristics of an innovation in business models in the Mypes of the baking industry. Hence, we set out to prove if this corresponded to any innovation model and if it objectively had a measurable impact in the economic and financial level. For this reason, we selected the district of San Juan de Lurigancho for statistical and budgetary reasons, in order to make it the object of gathering the necessary comparative data regarding its financial statements and management indicators. Finally, we found that businesses that were innovative in their models, offering more products and services, achieved better results.
