Abstract:
Domestic violence is a serious social problem in Samoa. Some studies have suggested that nearly half of Samoan women have been subject to abuse by intimate partners or parents. The increase in cases of domestic violence in Samoa is slowly raising the public’s awareness of its impacts on the victims, who are overwhelmingly women and children. The growing number of named cases of domestic violence, and many other cases, which are not reported, should make domestic violence a priority issue in theological reflection. This article explores how this pressing issue of domestic violence in Samoa may be seen as a case study for an Oceanic public theology.

Abstract:
This study discusses one of the dance arts in Pandeglang Banten, namely the Dhikr Saman dance. This dance is one culture that is able to carry Islamic values. The emergence of the Dhikr Saman dance culture is from a tarekat called Samaniyah brought by Sheikh Muhammad bin Abd Karim al-Samman from Aceh in the 18th century, by modifying the teachings of the Khalwiyat, Qadiriyah, Naqsabandiyah and Syadziliyah orders. This study aims to reveal how the role of the Dhikr Saman dance uses the structural functional theory analysis tool proposed by Talcot Parsons. The results of this study reveal that the Dhikr Saman Dance art is able to give a role in spreading Islamic values in the Pandeglang community in the aspects of religion and culture, but after 2009 the Dhikr Saman Dance no longer has an important role in the Society due to more modern thought changes brought by Muhammadiyah, which suggests that Islamic values contained in the Dhikr Saman dance are impure teachings.Keywords: Influence, Islamic Culture, Dhikr Saman, Pandeglang Studi ini membahas tentang salah satu seni budaya Tari di Pandeg¬lang Banten yaitu tari Zikir Saman. Seni tari ini merupakan salah satu budaya yang mampu membawa nilai-nilai Islam. Munculnya budaya tari Zikir Saman yaitu dari sebuah tarekat yang bernama Samaniyah yang dibawa oleh Syekh Muhammad bin Abd Karim al-Samman dari Aceh pada abad ke-18 M, dengan cara memodifikasi ajaran tarekat Khalwiyat, Qadiriyah, Naqsabandiyah dan Syadziliyah. Studi ini bertujuan meng¬ungkap bagaimana peran seni tari Zikir Saman dengan menggunakan alat analisis teori fungsionalisme struktural yang dikemukakan oleh Talcot Parsons. Hasil dari studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa seni tari Zikir Saman mampu memberikan peran dalam menyebarkan nilai-nilai Islam di kalangan Masyarakat Pandeglang dalam aspek agama dan budaya, akan tetapi setelah tahun 2009 tari Zikir Saman tidak lagi mempunyai peran penting dalam Masyarakat karena adanya perubahan pemikiran yang lebih modern yang dibawa oleh Muhammadiyah, yang menggap bahwa nilai-nilai Islam yang terkandung dalam seni tari Zikir Saman merupakan ajaran yang sudah tidak murni.Kata Kunci: Pengaruh, Seni Budaya Islam, Zikir Saman, Pandeglang

Abstract Faridah Binti Mat Saman is a prominent figure among Quranic reciters in Malaysia and has won the competition of Quran recitation whether in national or international level for eight times. She has also been able to positively influence the Quranic institutions all over Kelantan and further embed her salutary impact towards the development of Tarannum studies in Malaysia starting from the year 1948 until 2018. This study is a qualitative research design using data collection methods through interviews, document analysis and declaration from Faridah Binti Mat Saman. The results show that the credibility of Faridah Binti Mat Saman has inspired Kelantan institutions through her morale, knowledge, expertise and skills which has resulted to favourable outcomes towards the institutions and the growth of Quranic tarannum studies in the state and Malaysia in general.

Religious intolerance is a topic that has attracted the attention of researchers especially in relation to african-brazilian religions. In Paraiba, these studies are still incipient and thus this study aimed to identify manifestations of intolerance and reactions that have been engendered in the cities of Joao Pessoa, Sape, Guarabira and Alagoa Grande. To account for the theoretical support of the research came from the symbolic interactionism of weberian concepts and bourdianos, and authors who study the field of african-brazilian religions. The qualitative research made use of the techniques of field observation and interviews in order to favor their own data in the search field and by the agents themselves religious. In this theoretical part were visited twenty-three yards, and selected and contacted twenty-three religious leaders. After interviewing the twenty-three leaders, nine were chosen to interact in the interview technique with depth, resulting sometimes in more than two interviews with the same person. From the thematic readings and field work defined the field of religious african-brazilian religions in Paraiba. Religious intolerance was approached conceptually and empirically allowing the understanding that legitimacy in its social sense is a condition not yet achieved by these religions in spite of legal legitimacy. In search of social acceptance of the construction of legitimacy is a process that is being developed through the development of mechanisms called, from the contribution of concepts berger: cognitive, normative and cognitive-normative.
A intolerância religiosa é uma temática que vem atraindo a atenção de pesquisadores sobretudo, com relação às religiões afro-brasileiras. Na Paraíba, esses estudos ainda são incipientes e assim este trabalho objetivou identificar as manifestações de intolerância e as reações que vêm sendo engendradas nas cidades de João Pessoa, Sapé, Guarabira e Alagoa Grande. Para dar conta da pesquisa os apoios teóricos vieram do interacionismo simbólico, de conceitos weberianos e bourdianos, além de autores que estudam o campo das religiões afro-brasileiras. A pesquisa de natureza qualitativa se valeu das técnicas de observação em campo e entrevista a fim de privilegiar dados no próprio campo de pesquisa e pelos próprios agentes religiosos. Nessa parte metodológica foram visitados vinte e três terreiros e, selecionadas e contatadas vinte e três lideranças religiosas. Após entrevistar as vinte e três lideranças, nove foram escolhidas para interagirem sob a técnica da entrevista com profundidade, o que resultou, algumas vezes, em mais de duas entrevistas com a mesma pessoa. A partir das leituras temáticas e do trabalho de campo foi definido o campo religioso das religiões afro-brasileiras na Paraíba. A intolerância religiosa foi abordada conceitualmente e empiricamente possibilitando a compreensão de que a legitimidade na sua acepção social é uma condição ainda não atingida por parte dessas religiões apesar de haver a legitimidade jurídica. Em busca da aceitação social a construção da legitimação é um processo que vem sendo desenvolvido mediante o empreendimento de mecanismos denominados, a partir da contribuição bergeriana: cognitivo, normativo e cognitivo-normativo.

Abstract:

Enligt G. Granberg kan skogsråföreställningen vara en avspegling av nordbornas psyke vid vissa natur och näringsförhållanden. Dock går inte skogsråföreställningens utformning i Norden att förklara på ovanstående sätt då finnarna samt många av de slaviska folkens skogsråföreställning på många sätt är annorlunda än den svenska/norska föreställningen. Detta trots att naturen samt näringsförhållanden är mycket lika och borde uppvisa liknande föreställningar rörande skogsrået.

Det Svenska/norska skogsrået är unikt i jämförelse med andra länder runt om, vilkas skogsråföreställningar liknar varandra. Danmark har ellekvinnor som i viss mån påminner om skogsrået. Men ellekvinnan verkar vanligtvis i grupp, ofta tillsammans med män och barn av ellefolket.

Skogsrået beskrivs uppkommit först efter religionsskiftet. Exakt när sägnerna om skogsrået börjar och blir till ett mytiskt väsen finns det inga uppgifter om, men Odens jakt är en gammal fornnordisk myt vilken någon gång efter religionsskiftet började innefatta Freyja för att sedan vidareutvecklades till sägnen om Odens jakt på skogsrået.

Freyja med den amorösa karaktären och fruktbarhetsfunktionerna, blev en av de mest anstötliga fornnordiska gudomarna efter religionsskiftet. Freyja blev (tillsammans med de andra fornnordiska gudomarna) demoniserad av de kristna. Asarna Oden och Tor hade inte samma amorösa karaktär som Freyja. På grund av detta förmådde troligtvis Oden och Tor behålla en stor del av sin ursprungliga karaktär trots demoniseringen. Freyja, vilken hade en påtaglig sexuell funktion, försvann till största delen ur människornas liv, men levde kvar, enligt mig, i en nyvunnen skogsråhamn. I rollen som skogsrå kan jag se Freyja transformerad till ett amoröst fruktbarhetsväsen vilkens områden inte bara är fruktbarhet och erotik, utan även kärlek, styrka och förgörelse.

Om skogsrået är en avspegling av Freyja, vore det inte helt omöjligt att tänka sig Freyjas bror Freyj i skogsmannens gestalt, men då endast som Freyjas partner.

Med ovanstående redovisat, vill jag mena att skogsrået kan uppfylla kriterierna för att vara arvtagerska till fruktbarhetsgudinnan Freyja.

Alla människor drabbas förr eller senare av kris och/eller förlust. Hur vi hanterar svårigheter varierar dock från person till person och tillvägagångssätten är många. I denna studie undersöktes den funktion och betydelse som en tro/religiös uppfattning kan ha för den drabbade i samband med krisupplevelser. Syftet var att undersöka på vilka sätt en tro kan fungera som resurs och/eller hinder för människor i samband med kris och förlust. Studiens syfte uppfylldes genom intervjuer med tolv personer, fyra män och åtta kvinnor i åldrarna 22-63 år, som alla hade erfarenheter av kris och/eller förlust. Det var alltså informanternas egna uppfattningar och erfarenheter av tro som resurs och hinder som uppsatsen utgick ifrån. Resultatet visar att en tro till största del fungerar som en resurs för människor i samband med svårigheter. En tro kan uppfylla önskningar eller andra behov genom en omedelbar verkan eller på längre sikt. Den kan också exempelvis medföra hopp, tröst och trygghet för den drabbade. En tro kan även vara ett problem på så sätt att den hindrar den drabbade från att sörja och bearbeta de känslor som uppkommer. Den kan även medföra känslor av ångest, övergivenhet och svek. Det visar sig att innehållet i tron är mindre betydande i sammanhanget. Det mest väsentliga för att man i huvudsak ska uppleva tron som en resurs är att den passar in på ens personlighet och att individen känner sig trygg och tillfreds med den.

Abstract:
Religion, both indigenous and colonial, is an important aspect of Samoa’s cultural legacy.  This thesis examines aspects of the religious lives of Samoan women as shaped by that legacy.  Using data gained during fieldwork, along with historical and cultural insights, I have shown how religion in Samoa can both empower and constrain Samoan women.  To inform this study I have used feminist methodologies and have suggested that a feminist theory of religion, which acknowledges human agency, is necessary so that the complex reality of women’s religious lives can be examined more sympathetically.  Through an interdisciplinary approach, this study seeks to demonstrate that Samoan women have created meaningful religious spaces for themselves, despite the fact that limitations do exist within the various religious and cultural milieu of Samoa. The religious environment in Samoa is heterogeneous despite claims to the contrary.  The religions/denominations selected for study demonstrate that heterogeneity, these are; the vestiges of the Samoan indigenous religion; the Congregationalist, Methodist, Catholic and Charismatic Christian Churches; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Bahá’í Faith.  Individual chapters discuss specific aspects of the religion/denomination as highlighted by Samoan women.

Abstract:

Denna uppsats huvudsyfte var att studera debatten i den kyrkliga pressen i samband med separationen mellan kyrka och stat år 2000.  Undersökningen har visat att  genomförandet av separationen mellan kyrka och stat tillsammans med de organisatoriska och juridiska förändringar som detta innebar orsakade en stundtals kraftig debatt i kyrkopressen. I min undersökning har jag följt debatten kring fyra av de hetaste debattfrågorna och även belyst en av de konflikter som uppstod genom det utbredda missnöjet mot kyrkordningen. Studien har visat att det uppstod splittringar inom kyrkan mellan prästerskapet och kyrkans högre ledning, framförallt kyrkomötet, och att missnöjet mot separationsbeslutet och kyrkoordningen var utbrett bland denna grupp. Uppsatsen har även visat att kyrkan tiden efter undersökningens spektrum har drabbats av en del av de svårigheter och motgångar, främst genom minskat medlemsantal och försämrad ekonomi, som förutspåddes bland en del av debattörerna under debatten 1995-2000.

Studien ämnar undersöka sambandet mellan paranormal tro och välbefinnande, något tidigare forskning nedprioriterat för att istället fokusera på vad som predicerar paranormal tro. Forskning tyder på positiva hälsoeffekter av religiös tro, samt ger svaga indikationer på att samma kan gälla andra former av paranormal tro. Studiens frågeställningarna ämnar att undersöka ifall bakgrundsvariabler och dimensioner av paranormal tro relaterar till välbefinnande. Deltagarna bestod av 138 individer och data samlades in via enkäter. En Pearsons korrelationsanalys visade att utbildning samt civilstånd hade positiva samband med samtliga dimensioner av välbefinnande, övriga bakgrundsvariabler uppvisade samband med minst en dimension. Paranormal tro tenderade att korrelera negativt med välbefinnande, mest framträdande i dimensionen fysiskt välbefinnande. En hierarkisk regressionsanalys visade att bakgrundsvariablerna signifikant kunde förklara varians i kriterievariablerna, detsamma gällde dock inte för dimensionerna av paranormal tro. En svaghet med studien gäller val av deltagare, framtida forskning med mer jämförbara urvalsgrupper föreslås.

Författaren till denna uppsats har ett brett allmänt intresse av alla tänkbara relationer mellan hällbilder och runor ur ett vitt spektrum av aspekter såsom kronologiska, kulturella, epokmässiga, geografiska, semiotiska, språkfunktionella och skrifthistoriska. Särskilt intressant vore att kartlägga och analysera, hur hällbilder och runor kan symboliskt uttrycka religiösa, rituella, kosmologiska och livsåskådningsmässiga föreställningar och ideal. Andra viktiga faktorer, som måste beaktas, är kulturkontinuitet och hur forntidens människor såg på sina ännu äldre föregångares kultur, föreställningar och livsföring. Uppsatsen måste dock begränsa sig att främst behandla två specialområden dels lokaler med överlappande förekomster av hällristningar och runor, dels en jämförelse mellan runnamnens semantiska sfärer och symboliseringar av väsentliga delar i livsvärlden hos de mest frekventa skandinaviska hällbildsfigurstyperna. De frågor uppsatsen vill besvara är primärt: 1/ Vilka samlokaliseringar av hällbilder och runor finns det? 2/ Verkar runinskrifterna på dessa samlokaliseringar kommentera eller anspela på hällbilderna och i så fall hur? 3/ Vilka semantiska sfärer representerar runnamnen och vilka komponenter i de dåtida människornas levnadsvärld refererar de till? 4/ Finns det hällbildsfigurer, som rimligen kan sägas symbolisera samma levnadsvärldskomponenter som runorna? För att besvara dessa frågor presenteras: A/ fem samlokaliseringar av hällbilder och runor; B/ tolkningar av samspelet mellan de fem lokalernas hällbilder och runor; C/ en genomgång av de äldre runnamnens betydelser; D/ förslag på hällbildsfigurer, som symboliskt skulle motsvara runnamnen.  En angenäm effekt av denna uppsats vore, om den kunde leda till en rekategorisering av hällbildernas motiv och symboler utifrån runsystemets förutsatta levnadsvärld och kosmologi..
The author of this thesis has a broad general interest in all imaginable relations between rock art and runes out of a wide spectrum of aspects such as cronological, cultural, epochic, geografic, semiotic, linguistic and the history of writing. It would be specially interesting to describe (map down) and analyse how rock art and runes in a symbolic way can express beliefs and ideals out of a religious, ritual and cosmological  conception of life. Other important considerations are continuity of culture and how ancient people looked at the culture, beliefs, ideas and living of their ancesters. This thesis has to be limited to deal with two areas, firstly lokacations with overlapping occurrence of rock art and runes and secondly a comparison of the semantic sphere of the names of the runes and symbolizations of important parts of life that can be seen in the most frequently occurring Scandinavian types of rock art figures. The thesis primarily wants to answer the following questions: 1) Which common localisations of rock art and runes are there? 2) Do the runes in these colocalization seem to comment or allude to the rock art? If so, in what way? 3) Which semantic spheres do the names of the runes represent and to which components in the life world of the ancient people do they refere? 4) Are there rock art figures who probably can be said to symbolize the same components of life world as the runes? To answer these questions I will present: A) five common lokalisations of rock art and runes. B) interpretations of the interaction of the rock art and runes in these five lokalisations. C) a catalogue of the meanings of the names of the older runes. D) proposals concerning rock art figures which in a symbolic way could correspond the rune names. A pleasant effect of this thesis would be, if it could leed to a recategorization of the motives and symbols of rock art from the provided life world and cosmology of the runes.

This essay reframes the Bible as both a Caribbean text and a rhythmic text. It argues, moreover, that the Bible, in its illimitable capacity to affect and be affected, is also what Gregory Seigworth, Melissa Gregg, and Kathleen Stewart would term an affective bloom-space, an exceedingly fertile concept. The essay proceeds to assemble a Rastafari hermeneutic that effectuates a rhythmic reasoning whereby the resonances of Glissantian orality and Deleuzian affect throb together upon the pulsating pages of the biblical Samson story. Orality as musicality meets affect theory in the essay’s reactivation of the Samson story, a reading acutely attentive to rhythm and to the intra-action of narrative and interpretive bodies in/as ambient affective assemblage.

This chapter examines Lydia Huntley Sigourney’s early writing (Moral Pieces in Prose and Verse and Sketch of Connecticut) and her life writing to understand her projects of affiliating with Connecticut Federalism and narrating continuity between Connecticut Federalism its political successors after the War of 1812. It examines her historical portrayal of conflicts over social class, religion, and government, including the Hartford Convention and the state watershed election of 1818, Congregationalism and religious toleration, and Mohegan evangelism and Samson Occum, as well as Sigourney’s autobiographical portrayal of her own shifting position in these conflicts. This analysis complicates two scholarly tendencies: to portray Sigourney as a democratic, working-class poet and to oppose mass market sentimental piety with the old order of New England Puritanism and established religion. It shows instead that Sigourney represented herself as a Federalist daughter harkening back to and adapting the vision of a classically republican organic society. Her treatment of religious tolerance is shown to be central to this project insofar as it was both a means to deflect criticism of the Federalists and to adapt arguments for state religion to a new era of religious privatization.

The Tonaia or “binding” on Samos has traditionally been interpreted as a pre- marriage ceremony (e.g., Varro ap. Lactant. Div. inst. 1.17.8) or, more recently, as a New Year’s ritual in which the normally chained cult image was set free. This article argues that a dichotomy between autochthonous and colonial narratives can recontextualize these theories. According to Menodotus of Samos (BNJ 541 F 1 ap. Ath. 15.672), the celebrants of the Tonaia bring the statue of Hera to the beach, purify her and then reenthrone her in her temple. This ritual is a reflection of the myth where Argive pirates attempted to steal the image of Hera (ἁρπάσαι τὸ βρέτας), and the superstitious, barbarian Karians could not trust that the goddess did not leave of her own free will (αὐτόματον) so they fastened her tight to a mat of willow shoots (πρός τι λύγου θωράκιον ἀπερείσασθαι). The performance of the Tonaia mediated the complex relationship between the belief in the autochthonous ori- gin of the Heraion, the Argive ancestry of the cult of Hera, and the inclusion of the Karian population from the Ionian coast. The removal, binding and final loosening and reconsecra- tion of her bretas represented the possibility of the goddess’ forcible theft or repatriation back to Argos, as well as the aition for the Karian’s marginal status in the festival.

Abstract Samson Occom and his son-in-law, Joseph Johnson, were arguably two of the most enmeshed Indigenous figures of early New England’s missionary circles and produced radically nativist spaces and languages within and beside the discourses of White evangelical religion. Highly visible through their writings and their relationships with prominent evangelical figures, this chapter explores the deep investments Occom and Johnson made in education, religion, and politics in New and Old England while also gesturing toward the silences obscuring Indigenous peoples in English records and in the colonial imagination. Passionately convinced that Christianity had something real and important to offer their Native kin, these Mohegan men spent their lives traversing the Northeast, the Atlantic world, and the precarious terrain between Native and colonial spaces. By foregrounding these Indigenous figures rather than the Euro-American religious leaders and missionaries in religious histories of the Northeast especially among Native nations, the authors propose a reorientation for New England’s evangelical movement, putting Indigeneity and the Indigenous figures who left an indelible mark on the Native and colonial religious landscape of the eighteenth century at the center.

The Introduction lays out the subject matter, problem, and plan of the book. A central theme is the emergence of middle-class German Judaism and the fraught dynamics of German Jews’ quest for legal and social equality. The connection between Bible translation and a “Jewish Reformation” and the importance of Protestant categories of religion are investigated. Three forms of bourgeois, middle-class German Judaism are explored: Moses Mendelssohn’s Haskalah, Leopold Zunz’s moderate Reform, and Samson Raphael Hirsch’s Neo-Orthodoxy. It is argued that bourgeois German Judaism is best understood as a spiritual enterprise where social and economic advancement are means to religious development and ethical responsibility.

Tulisan ini bertujuan menjelaskan kepercayaan Kaharingan sebagai salah satu kepercayaan leluhur yang masih berlangsung pada kehidupan orang Dayak di Kalimantan. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan etnoarkeologi. Data tulisan ini diperoleh dari penelitian Balai Arkeologi Kalimantan Selatan antara tahun 2006 hingga 2019 yang didukung dengan kajian literatur. Kepercayaan terhadap roh leluhur sebagai jejak Austornesia diwujudkan dalam bentuk perahu arwah. Tradisi tersebut bertahan karena konsep religi yang sudah kuat mengakar berkaitan dengan sejarah leluhur dan telah menjelma menjadi semangat. Namun demikian, seiring dengan perkembangan zaman, tradisi tersebut kini terancam punah.

U radu se analizira specifična politička matrica nacionalne države uspostavljene na demokratskim principima. Pasivno i aktivno biračko pravo je temelj na kojem je izgrađena savremena (demokratska) država. Međutim, u Bosni i Hercegovini egzistira anomalija koju je vrlo teško dovesti u pravne okvire. Većina država svijeta su nacionalne države gdje je nacija produkt određene političke ideologije, sa druge strane u BiH nacija/e su temeljene na organskim idejama kakva je religija – gdje je politička praksa, odnosne, prozeletizam. Problem nastaje u činjenici da je demokratija ustvari, prije svega, kategorija emancipacije a tek onda pitanje prava i politike. Politika je zadnja o ovom nizu, ali u Bosni i Hercegovini postoji samo politika, emancipacija i pravo su shvaćeni kao produkti politike. Autori, u radu, raspravljaju o posebnom političkom saglasju oko određenih društvenih kategorija koje će biti platforma budućeg izbornog zakona. Ovdje se predlaže ponovna uspostava redoslijeda: emancipacija, pravo i politika jer je to jedini način opstanka „organski“ heterogene društvene zajednice koja želi da živi u demokratskim okvirima

Den här litteraturöversikten fokuserar på missgynnande och diskriminering på hyresbostadsmarknaden och deras respektive kopplingar till etableringshinder på arbetsmarknaden. Genom en scoping review genomfördes sex intervjuer med forskare knutna till fältet, 1100 artiklar identifierades i en initial litteratursökning och 32 artiklar ansågs uppfylla kriterierna för litteraturöversikten. Av översikten kan vi dra slutsatsen att missgynnande och diskriminering förekommer på hyresbostadsmarknaden och utgör etableringshinder som i förlängningen försvårar arbetsmarknadsetablering. Det rör sig såväl om direkt diskriminering i ansökningsprocesser som om missgynnande till följd av socioekonomisk ojämlikhet och effekter av policyer. Vidare framkommer att det saknas forskning på direkt diskriminering på grund av religion, könsidentitet, ålder eller funktionsnedsättning. Även adresseffekter måste anses vara ett outforskat område i Sverige.
