Full textTaking part in an adequate level of physical activity represents a very important behaviour for the maintaining and the improvement of people's health. For this reason, among others, physical education is present in schools curricula worldwide, with the aim to help young people to value the importance of an active lifestyle. Nevertheless, in the transition from high school to university, a decrease in physical activity has been often been observed. Moreover, there are young people that are physically inactive during high school, and these are more at risk for a sedentary behaviour during the university years. It can be useful, for the end of improving the health and the wellbeing of university students, to implement interventions for the promotion of physical activity. The present dissertation describes the planning and the evaluation of an educational program to promote the adoption and the maintaining of a physically active lifestyle among university students. The aim is to provide a project for the creation of a service for the promotion of physical activity offered by the university to the students. The dissertation is composed by three main parts, related one each other, but that also represent partly independents researches: 1) A systematic review of the literature regarding controlled trials of interventions aimed at promoting physical activity among university students. In this part of the dissertation, the literature will be critically analysed, to search for strategies that have proved to be effective in promoting physical activity among university students. 2) An explorative survey among the students of the University of Padua. The survey has been carried out to investigate the phenomenon of physical inactivity among the students of the University of Padua, and to analyse the main perceived barriers to physical activity. 3) The planning and e valuation, by means of a pilot study, of a personalised educational intervention for the promotion of physical activity among university students. The planning of the intervention is preceded by the exposition of the anthropological and the pedagogical theoretical frameworks adopted.

Full textIn order to face the changes and new needs that have affected the school systems, it is advisable to enhance human capital, train professionals, and enhance the quality of teaching. The transformations of the traditional methods of professional updating must be based on the renewal of the training device. The training path can be supported through digital technologies, thus contributing to the construction of the role identity of the teacher and the improvement of learning and teaching. In the research project, prominence was attributed to the methodologies of educational research, paying attention to documentary research, to obtain reliable results from the literature and a synthesis of the best evidence on the subject. Several authors value, in their studies, the use of observation of didactic practice to innovate it, as it widens the opportunities for professional development, allows analysis and reflection on practices, favors the observation of contents, events and phenomena connected to professionalism. The literature confirms the usefulness of video analysis in the training of teachers, in order to increase professional standards and encourage the innovation of teaching strategies, thus raising the performance of the school system. In the motor and sports fields, the understanding of health standards, the evaluation of the teaching action, the reconstruction of the methodological profile of the teacher and the reworking of teaching styles can be enhanced, enhanced and modified through video analysis. Specifically, physical education teachers, through video analysis, are able to identify and evaluate the objectives, the learning units, the organizational methods of the contents, the interactions with students and the teaching styles most suitable for the lessons.

Full textIn the last 25 years, the literature has been figuring out how to answer the question, however outlined, on the independent effect that surrounding contexts, together with social contexts, have on individual health. There is no study that has been devoted to studying the link between places and health for the whole Italian territory. The present research wants to demonstrate the existence of the association between daily-living contexts and individual health in Italy. This work is a preliminary exploration of the phenomenon since no information is available for Italy yet. ITA.LI survey collected data from 8,778 subjects belonging to 4,900 families living in 278 municipalities. Individual physical and mental health, measured through the SF-12, is the outcome considered in this study. Essentially, two dependent variables are analysed: one is the Physical Component Summary Scale Score (PCS), and the other one is the Mental Component Summary Scale Score (MCS). In studying the context, reference is made to both subjective measures (social cohesion and neighborhood disorder) and objective measures, both compositional (census data) and contextual (meteorological conditions). Moreover, together with individual characteristics, household-level deprivation is considered. Multilevel analysis is implemented considering a three-level structure in which individuals are nested in families, which are nested in neighbourhoods. Four models are estimated: first a null model, second a random-intercepts model, third a random-slopes model, and finally a cross-level contextual model. Evidence suggests the existence of neighbourhood effects in Italy, especially on mental health conditions. Compositional characteristics such as unemployment and the proportion of rented houses affect individual physical health, while contextual characteristics affect mental health. The subjective perception of social cohesion is essential only to mental health, while neighborhood disorder is related to both mental and physical health. Different results are found between regions and macro-areas.

Full textExercise is a key lifestyle approach to optimize bone health. Physical activity can influence bone physiology through many ways. We studied at cellular level some biochemical mechanisms involved in the action of sclerostin, a cytokine that negatively affect bone growth and metabolism. This study started from the observation that young rhythmic gymnasts have high levels of circulating sclerostin, in spite of a high degree of bone mineralization, suggesting that exercise is able to neutralize the negative effect of sclerostin on bone growth. In order to study some biochemical aspects of sclerostin, we used SaOS2 osteosarcoma cells, which are osteogenic cells with osteoblastic characteristics. In this experimental model we observed that sclerostin inhibited mineralization and induced apoptosis with caspase activation. The proapoptotic effect of sclerostin was inhibited by inducers of autophagy such as the natural polyamine spermidine, suggesting a possible link between sclerostin and polyamines. Furthermore, also activation of AMP activated protein kinase (AMPK) or of the SIRT1 deacetylase led to protection against sclerostin-induced apoptosis. Interestingly, AMPK and SIRT1 are both associated to exercise. These data suggest a new mechanism whereby fisical exercise can modulate osteogenesis and bone remodelling, that are important pocesses associated to bone health.

Esta tese compõe o conjunto de estudos realizados na Universidade Federal da Bahia, a partir do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação, Linha de Pesquisa Educação, Cultura Corporal e Lazer. Insere-se especificamente nos estudos realizados pelo Grupo de Estudo e Pesquisa em Educação Física, Esporte e Lazer (LEPEL/PPGE/FACED/UFBA) e responde a perguntas científicas relacionadas à pesquisa matricial sobre “Problemáticas significativas do Trabalho Pedagógico, da Produção do Conhecimento, das Políticas Públicas e da Formação de Professores de Educação Física e Esporte”. Tem como objeto de estudo o trato com o conhecimento na formação de Professores de Educação Física. Delimita como pergunta de investigação quais as contribuições da Psicologia Histórico-Cultural, da Pedagogia Histórico-Crítica e, da Abordagem Crítico-Superadora do Ensino da Educação Física para enfrentar as contradições presentes no currículo de formação de professores referentes à negação do conhecimento e, o trato com o conhecimento a partir de abordagens biologicistas, naturalistas, mecanicistas, que fragmentam corpo-mente e teoria-prática. A hipótese tratou do enfrentamento do projeto de formação de professores que defende a divisão dos cursos de Educação Física, dando ênfase à questão da saúde, a partir das possíveis contribuições de um conjunto teórico baseado na referência marxista e, da experiência pedagógica no ensino da Biomecânica Aplicada à Educação Física, conteúdo do eixo dos Fundamentos, da área da Saúde relacionado com o Eixo do Conteúdo Específico da Cultura Corporal do Curso de Licenciatura em Educação Física, de caráter ampliado, da Faculdade de Educação da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Os dados levantados e sistematizados foram coletados: (a) na bibliografia sobre os pressupostos teóricos; (b) na legislação, nos bancos de dados do MEC e, em dissertações e teses; (c) in locus, na experiência pedagógica desenvolvida no ensino da disciplina Biomecânica Aplicada à Educação Física na FACED/UFBA. Os procedimentos de investigação foram: análises de conteúdo; descrição densa em relatórios de campo; e elaboração de sínteses estabelecendo nexos e relações que permitiram a conclusão da tese. A tese apresenta como pressupostos, epistemológico a teoria do conhecimento Materialista Histórico Dialético, do desenvolvimento humano a Teoria Histórico Cultural, pedagógico a Teoria Pedagogia Histórico-Crítica e, no ensino da Educação Física, a Abordagem Crítico-Superadora. O objetivo diz respeito às contribuições dos pressupostos teóricos no trato com o conhecimento, em especial da área da saúde, no currículo de formação de professores de Educação Física, na perspectiva da superação de contradições e, de contribuições para consolidar uma consistente formação teórica, fundamentada na teoria do conhecimento do Materialismo Histórico Dialético. Conclui-se, apresentando, a partir dos pressupostos de referência marxista, elementos teórico-práticos, em que destacamos os sistemas de complexos, no trato com o conhecimento, no currículo de formação de professores de Educação Física, no marco de um curso único, de licenciatura ampliada.
ABSTRACT This thesis composes the set of studies performed at the Federal University of Bahia, through the Graduate Program in Education, Research Line on Education, Body Culture and Leisure. It is specifically inserted in the studies performed by the Study and Research Group in Physical Education, Sport and Leisure (LEPEL/PPGE/FACED/UFBA), and answers scientific questions related to the matrix research on “Significant issues on Pedagogical Work, Knowledge Production, Public Policies, and Formation of Physical Education and Sport Teachers”. Its object of study is the treatment of knowledge in the formation of Physical Education Teachers. It delimits as its research question what are the contributions of the Historical-Cultural Psychology, the Historical-Critical Pedagogy, and the Critical-Overcoming Approach of Physical Education Teaching to face the contradictions present in the teacher formation curriculum that refer to the knowledge denial, and the treatment of knowledge through biological, naturalistic, mechanistic approaches that fragment body-mind and theory-practice. The hypothesis dealt with the confrontation of the teacher formation project that defends the division of the Physical Education undergraduate programs, emphasizing the health matter, through the possible contributions of a theoretical set based on the Marxist reference, and the pedagogical experience in the teaching of Biomechanics Applied to Physical Education, subject of the Fundamentals of the Health area axis, related to the Axis of the Specific Content of Body Culture of the Physical Education Undergraduate Program, with extended character, of the College of Education in the Federal University of Bahia. The systematized data were collected: (a) in the bibliography about the theoretical assumptions; (b) in legislation, in the MEC databases, and in dissertations and theses; (c) in locus, in the pedagogical experience developed in the teaching of the Biomechanics Applied to Physical Education course at FACED/UFBA. The investigation procedures were: content analysis; dense description in field reports; and elaboration of syntheses establishing links and relations that allowed the conclusion of the thesis. The thesis presents as its assumptions: epistemologically, the Historical Dialectical Materialism theory of knowledge; on human development, the Cultural Historical Theory; pedagogically, the Historical-Critical Pedagogy Theory; and on the teaching of Physical Education, the Critical-Overcoming Approach. The objective concerns the contributions of the theoretical assumptions to the treatment of the knowledge, especially of the health area, in the curriculum of Physical Education teachers’ formation, with the perspective of overcoming contradictions, and of contributions to consolidate a consistent theoretical formation, based on the Historical and Dialectical Materialism theory of knowledge. It was concluded, presenting, through the assumptions of Marxist reference, theoretical-practical elements, where we highlight the systems of complexes, in the treatment of knowledge, in the curriculum of Physical Education teachers’ formation, within the framework of a single, extended degree.
RESUMEN Esta tesis compone el conjunto de estudios realizados en la Universidad Federal de Bahía, a partir del Programa de Postgrado en Educación, Línea de Investigación Educación, Cultura Corporal y Ocio. Se inserta específicamente en los estudios realizados por el Grupo de Estudio e Investigación en Educación Física, Deporte y Ocio (LEPEL / PPGE / FACED / UFBA) y responde a preguntas científicas relacionadas con la investigación matricial sobre "Problemáticas significativas del trabajo pedagógico, de la producción del conocimiento, de las Políticas Públicas y de la Formación de Profesores de Educación Física y Deporte. Tiene como objeto de estudio el trato con el conocimiento en la formación de Profesores de Educación Física. En el caso de la enseñanza de la educación física, se debe tener en cuenta que las contribuciones de la Pscicología Histórico-Cultural, de la Pedagogía Histórico-Crítica y del Enfoque Crítico-Superadora de la Enseñanza de la Educación Física para enfrentar las contradicciones presentes en el currículo de formación de profesores referentes a la negación del conocimiento y, trato con el conocimiento a partir de enfoques biologicistas, naturalistas, mecanicistas, que fragmentan cuerpo-mente y teoría-práctica. La hipótesis trató del enfrentamiento del proyecto de formación de profesores que defiende la división de los cursos de Educación Física, dando énfasis a la cuestión de la salud, a partir de las posibles contribuciones de un conjunto teórico basado en la referencia marxista y de la experiencia pedagógica en la enseñanza de la Biomecánica Aplicada a la Educación Física, el contenido del eje de los Fundamentos, del área de la Salud relacionado con el Eje del Contenido Específico de la Cultura Corporal del Curso de Licenciatura en Educación Física, de carácter ampliado, de la Facultad de Educación de la Universidad Federal de Bahía. Los datos levantados y sistematizados fueron recolectados: (a) en la bibliografía sobre los presupuestos teóricos; (b) en la legislación, en los bancos de datos del MEC y en disertaciones y tesis; (c) in locus, en la experiencia pedagógica desarrollada en la enseñanza de la disciplina Biomecánica Aplicada a la Educación Física en la FACED/UFBA. Los procedimientos de investigación fueron: análisis de contenido; descripción densa en informes de campo; y elaboración de síntesis estableciendo nexos y relaciones que permitieron la conclusión de la tesis. La tesis presenta como presupuestos, epistemológico la teoría del conocimiento Materialista Histórico Dialéctico, del desarrollo humano la Teoría Histórico Cultural, pedagógica la Teoría Pedagogía Histórico-Crítica y, en la enseñanza de la Educación Física, el Enfoque Crítico-Superadora. El objetivo se refiere a las contribuciones de los presupuestos teóricos en el trato con el conocimiento, en especial del área de la salud, en el currículo de formación de profesores de Educación Física, en la perspectiva de la superación de contradicciones y de contribuciones para consolidar una consistente formación teórica, fundamentada en la teoría del conocimiento del materialismo histórico dialéctico. SOMMARIO Questa tesi compone l'accumulo degli studi effettuati presso l'Università Federale di Bahia, a partire dal Programma Post-Laurea in Educazione, Linea di Ricerca, Educazione, Cultura Corporale e Ricreazione. E 'specificamente inserito nell'analisi del Gruppo di Studio i Ricerca sull'Educazione Fisica, Sport i Ricreazione (LEPEL / PPGE / FACED / UFBA) e risponde a domande scientifiche relative alla ricerca di base su i "Problemi significativi del Lavoro Pedagogico, Produzione della Conoscenza" , delle Politiche Pubbliche e della Formazione degli Insegnanti di Educazione Fisica e Sport ". Ha come oggetto di studio il contatto con la conoscenza nella formazione degli insegnanti di Educazione Fisica. Delimita come una domanda di analisi quali sono i contributi della Psicologia Storico-Culturale, della Pedagogia Storico-Critica e dell'Approccio Critico-Superadora dell'Insegnamento dell'Educazione Fisica per affrontare le contraddizioni presenti nel curriculum di formazione degli insegnanti relativo alla negazione della conoscenza e, al contatto con la conoscenza di approcci biologicisti, naturalistici, meccanicistiche, che frammentano mente-corpo e teoria-pratica. L'ipotesi ha esaminato il confronto del progetto di formazione degli insegnanti che difende la divisione dei corsi di Educazione Fisica, sottolineando il problema della salute, basato sui possibili contributi di uma compilazione teorica basata sul riferimento marxista e, dell'esperienza pedagogica nell'insegnamento della Biomeccanica Applicata all'Educazione Fisica, contenuto dell'asse dei Fondamenti, dell'area della Salute relativa all'Asse del Contenuto Specifico della Cultura Corporale del Corso di Laurea in Educazione Fisica, di carattere estensivo, della Facoltà di Educazione dell'Università Federale di Bahia. I dati raccolti e sistematizzati sono stati ripresi: (a) nella bibliografia sulle ipotesi teoriche; (b) nella legislazione, nelle banche dati MEC, nelle dissertazioni e nelle tesi; (c) in locus, nell'esperienza pedagogica sviluppata nell'insegnamento della disciplina Biomeccanica Applicata all'Educazione Fisic nel FACED/UFBA. Le procedure investigative erano: analisi del contenuto; descrizione spesse negli articoli di campo; ed elaborazione di sintesi che stabiliscono collegamenti e relazioni che hanno permesso la conclusione della tesi. La tesi presenta come presupposti, epistemologici la teoria della conoscenza Materialista Storica-Dialettica, dallo sviluppo umano alla Teoria Storica Culturale, pedagogica alla Teoria Pedagogica Storico-Critica e, nell'insegnamento dell'Educazione Fisica, l'Approccio Critico-Superadora. L'obiettivo è di contribuire ai presupposti teorici nel trattamento della conoscenza, specialmente nell'area della salute, nel curriculum per la formazione degli insegnanti di Educazione Fisica, al fine di superare le contraddizioni e contribuire a consolidare una coerente formazione teórica, basata sulla teoria della conoscenza del Materialismo Storico Dialettico. Si conclude, presentando, basato su presupposti di riferimento marxista, elementi teorico-pratici, in cui si evidenziano i sistemi di complessi, nel trattamento della conoscenza, nel curriculum per la formazione degli insegnanti di Educazione Fisica, nell'ambito di un corso di laurea unico e prolungato.

Full textIntroducción. La practica de actividad física tiene beneficios en el ser humano de forma integral. La transición de la edad adolescente a la edad adulta expone al ser humano a diferentes factores de riesgo que pueden afectar su salud, por tal razón se hace necesario el diseño de estrategias y líneas de investigación para prevenir y/o mitigar los efectos negativos de la exposición a estos factores de riesgo en los adolescentes y adultos jóvenes. Objetivos. El objetivo general de esta tesis fue evaluar los efectos de un programa de actividad física sobre parámetros de salud fisica, salud mental y la variabilidad de la frecuencia cardíaca en estudiantes de primer año de universidad. Se han planteado como subobjetivos específicos: 1) Evaluar parámetros antropométricos: peso, talla, IMC, ICC, ICT; perímetros de cintura, cadera, muslo y pantorrilla; plieges cutáneos bicipital, tricipital, suprailíaco, subescapular; 2) evaluar el nivel de actividad física; 3) evaluar parámetros de salud mental: ansiedad, depresión, estrés y autoestima, y 4) Registrar y analizar la variabilidad de la frecuencia cardíaca. Metodología. La muestra del estudio fueron 106 personas (hombres: 66, mujeres: 40) con una edad entre 16 y 25 años de la Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, de la ciudad de Bogotá. Se utilizó un diseño factorial con dos factores: género (hombres, mujeres) x intervención (control, actividad física) y cuatro grupos: hombres control, mujeres control, hombres intervención y mujeres intervención. La intervención duró 8 semanas y consistió en tres sesiones semanales de actividad de 1 h de duración, los grupos control continuo con su rutina habitual diaria. Todas las variables fueron medidas antes y después de la intervención (PRE-POST). Resultados. La intervención no modificó las diferencias previas de peso y talla que había entre hombres y mujeres y entre los dos grupos de mujeres. No hubo efectos significativos de los factores, ni diferencias entre pares de grupos en el IMC. La intervención no modificó las diferencias previas de pliegues que había entre hombres y mujeres. En la medida de Indice cintura cadera las mujeres tienden a tener valores más bajos que los hombres, en el índice cintura talla las mujeres tienden a tener valores más altos que los hombres, y en ninguno de estos índices hubo efectos de la intervención. Las mujeres tenían puntuaciones superiores en autoestima que los hombres. El grupo de hombres aumentó la puntuación en depresión y residualmente la de ansiedad después de la intervención y las mujeres con intervención tenían puntuaciones en ansiedad inferiores a los hombres con intervención. La intervención aumentó la actividad andar y la actividad moderada en los hombres y la actividad vigorosa en las mujeres, y aumento la actividad fisica total en hombres y mujeres. La intervención disminuyó las frecuencias cardíacas mínima y media en el grupo de mujeres con intervención, y aumentó de manera clara las medidas POST de VFC en su dominio temporal y dominio frecuencial en hombres y mujeres. Conclusiones. La intervención con un programa de ejercicio físico mixto de fuerza – resistencia en estudiantes universitarios tiene efectos positivos en la salud física en actividad física andar y moderada en hombres y vigorosa en mujeres, de igual forma aumenta la variabilidad de la frecuencia cardíaca en hombres y mujeres en las variables de dominio temporal y frecuencial. De este modo se sugiere que intervenciones mediante estos programas son factibles de implementarse en este tipo de población por su aceptación por parte de la muestra y su sostenibilidad en relación a los costos.
Introduction. The physical activity practice has benefits in humans in an integral way. The transition from adolescence to adulthood exposes human beings to different factors risk that can affect their health. For this reason, it is necessary to design strategies and lines of research to prevent and / or mitigate the negative effects of exposure to these risk factors. Objectives. The general objective of this thesis was to evaluate the effects of a physical activity program on parameters of physical health, mental health and heart rate variability in first year university students. The following specific sub-objectives have been proposed: 1) To evaluate anthropometric parameters: weight, height, BMI, ICC, ICT; waist, hip, thigh and calf circumferences; bicipital, tricipital, suprailiac, subscapular skinfolds; 2) to assess the level of physical activity; 3) to evaluate mental health parameters: anxiety, depression, stress and self-esteem, and 4) to record and analyze heart rate variability. Methodology. The study sample consisted of 106 participants (66 men and 40 women) aged between 16 and 25 years from the Francisco José de Caldas District University, in Bogotá city. A factorial design with two factors was used: gender (men, women) x intervention (control, physical activity) and four groups: control men, control women, intervention men and intervention women. The intervention lasted 8 weeks and consisted of three weekly sessions of 1-hour activity, the control groups continued with their usual daily routine. All variables were measured before and after the intervention (PRE-POST). Results. The intervention did not modify the previous differences in weight and height between men and women and between the two groups of women. There were no significant effects of the factors, nor differences between pairs of groups in BMI. The intervention did not modify the previous differences in skinfolds between men and women. Women tended to have lower values than men in the waist-hip index, women tend to have higher values than men in the waist-height index, and in none of those indices appeared any effect of the intervention. Women had higher self-esteem scores than men. The group of men increased depression and residual anxiety scores after the intervention, and women with intervention had lower anxiety scores than men with intervention. The intervention increased walking and moderate activity in men and vigorous activity in women, and increased total physical activity in both of them. The intervention decreased the minimum and mean heart rates in the group of women with intervention, and clearly increased the POST measures of HRV in its time domain and frequency domain parameters in men and women. Conclusions. Intervention with a mixed strength-resistance physical exercise program has positive effects in university students on physical health,walking and moderate physical activity in men and vigorous activity in women, in addition to increase heart rate variability in men and women as measured by time and frequency domain parameters. In this way, it is suggested that interventions through these programs are feasible to be implemented in this type of population due to their acceptance by the sample and their sustainability in relation to the costs.

The use of biological indicators coupled to classic analytical techniques, has allowed the implementation of the information obtained from the chemical-physical point of view. Contrary to the past, the living component of the soil has become crucial to better understand its condition, as it has been recognized as a system closely related to other environmental media, influenced and characterized by all organisms that compose it. Basing on this it was investigated the structure and characteristics of microbial communities, earthworms and ciliated protozoa, the enzymatic activities of the soil, and the genotoxicity of pollutants using clover plants as indicator. We also had the opportunity to apply some of the techniques that are outside the classic monitoring, but that can provide valuable information about the behavior of a substance or an element. These techniques are: the application of isotope dilution to determine the presence of hexavalent chromium in potentially contaminated soils, and bioassays with bioluminescent bacteria to assess the bioavailability of arsenic and mercury in a Site of National Interest.
