Abstract:
AbstractRe-actualization of the 19th and 20th Century Photographic Printing Technology: The Case of KOPPI Student Activity Group. The sophistication of digital photography technology does not satisfy some photographers, especially those who tend towards art photography. Instead, they looked back at old techniques, such as those of the 19th-century based on chemical principles, including cyanotype, salt print, vandyke print, and gum bichromate print. Most of the printing techniques are re-actualized by a number of photographers with different orientations. This paper examines how Old Photographic Processes Student Activity Group of ISI Yogyakarta(KOPPI) did more than just technical reconstruction, They used these unique media for conveying messages of personal and cultural issue. Participatory observation techniques were used during the four processes of creation: introduction, exploration, experimentation, and presentation. The finding showed that in using the old photo printing technique the participants had to negotiate three aspects, namely the technical understanding, materials, and cultural concepts. After they reached a sufficient technical and material understanding, the participants began to explore cultural issues. Cultural issues about deviations of society’s behavior, sadness, and society’s response to every day life have been raised to be the themes of the work through the old photo printing technique. Members of KOPPI take advantage of the old-fashioned impressions and flexibility of print media to realize these things.

Abstract:
A contactless label-free method using a diamagnetophoretic ink to rapidly print three-dimensional (3D) scaffold-free multicellular structures is described. The inks consist of MCF-7 cells that are suspended in a culture medium to which a paramagnetic salt, diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid gadolinium (III) dihydrogen salt hydrate (Gd-DTPA), is added. When a magnetic field is applied, the host fluid containing the paramagnetic salt is attracted towards regions of high magnetic field gradient, displacing the ink towards regions with a low gradient. Using this method, 3D structures are printed on ultra-low attachment (ULA) surfaces. On a tissue culture treated (TCT) surface, a 3D printed spheroid coexists with a two-dimensional (2D) cell monolayer, where the composite is termed as a 2.5D structure. The 3D structures can be magnetically printed within 6 hours in a medium containing 25 mM Gd-DTPA. The influence of the paramagnetic salt on MCF-7 cell viability, cell morphology, and ability of cells to adhere to each other to stabilize the printed structures on both ULA and TCT surfaces is investigated. Gene expressions of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF1α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) allow comparison of the relative stresses for the printed 3D and 2.5D cell geometries with those for 3D spheroids formed without magnetic assistance. This magnetic printing method can be potentially scaled to a higher throughput to rapidly print cells into 3D heterogeneous cell structures with variable geometries with repeatable dimensions for applications such as tissue engineering and tumour formation for drug discovery.

Abstract:
Concurrent administration of more than one drug is a common practice in medical science and in such case one drug may affect the pharmacology of another drug. Ciprofloxacin is a commonly used antibiotic in Bangladesh and frequently prescribed with paracetamol and zinc salt for concomitant use in patients suffering from infections. Therefore, the interaction of ciprofloxacin with paracetamol and zinc salt was studied in vitro at pH 1.2, 6.8 and 7.4 which are related to gastric, intestinal juices and blood, respectively. Analysis of drug-drug and drug-metal complexation was carried out by using UV/VIS spectrophotometer as well as the conductometric titration. It was observed that ciprofloxacin formed complex with paracetamol and zinc at pH 1.2.© 2012 JSR Publications. ISSN: 2070-0237 (Print); 2070-0245 (Online). A new type of solid state solar cell is produced by using Fe2O3 (working electrode) and SiC as a hole collector (counter electrode). Two molten salts, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (EMICl) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide (BMII) were used as crystal growth inhibitors with a SiC film. It was found that BMII shows about 10 times higher efficiency compared to an EMICI-based SiC film solar cell. Keywords: Fe2O3; SiC; Solid state solar cell; Molten salt. © 2009 JSR Publications. Abstract:
A series of polyimide (PI)-organically modified clay nanocomposites were made to enhance tensile modulus, thermal stability of PI. PI was made from 3, 3', 4, 4'-biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), p-phenylediamine (PDA). Montmorillonite (MMT), one type of layered clay, was treated by dodecylamine salt. XRD indicated that organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) layers were exfoliated and dispersed into PI-film. Tensile measurements indicated that small amount of OMMT (up to 3%) increased tensile modulus nicely. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the nano-composites are higher than those of pristine PI. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that nanocomposites have higher decomposition temperatures in comparison with the original PI. Abstract:
In 2010, 193 Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) endorsed World Health Assembly Resolution WHA63.14 to restrict the marketing of food and beverage products high in fat, sugar and salt (HFSS) to children to prevent obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). No study has examined HFSS marketing policies across the WHO regional office countries in the Americas. Between 2018 and 2019, a transdisciplinary team examined policies to restrict HFSS food and beverage product marketing to children to develop a responsible policy index (RESPI) that provides a quality score based on policy characteristics and marketing techniques. After designing the RESPI, we conducted a comprehensive literature review through October 2019 to examine policies in 14 countries in the WHO Americans Region. We categorized policies (n = 38) as either self-regulatory or statutory and calculated the RESPI scores, ranked from 0 (lowest) to 10 (highest). Results showed Brazil, Canada, Chile, and Uruguay had the highest RESPI scores associated with statutory policies that restricted point of sale, cartoon, licensed media characters and celebrities; and HFSS products in schools and child care settings, and broadcast and print media. Policymakers can use the RESPI tool to evaluate marketing policies within and across geopolitical boundaries to protect children’s diet and health.

Abstract:
Abstract The salt print is an important part of photography, both in its historic value and in the tonal range it can provide. This tonal range is greater than any other photographic printing process available to date attributed to the inherent masking ability of the metallic silver. However the intrinsic production problems have made it a 'forgotten' process. There are five key problems. 1. The difficulties in achieving the potential extensive tonal range. 2. The varying colour of the print. 3. Staining that appears in the print, during and after processing. 4. Instability and longevity of the salt print. 5. Contradictory and inaccurate information in material published on the salt print. Although the emphasis of the research is on exploring and controlling the colour and tonal range, the staining problems and stability of the print are also addressed. The materials used for contact negatives today vary in both capture and output, from analogue film processed in the traditional wet darkroom to a variety of transparent film printed from digital files. Inadequate density and tonal range can affect all types of negatives. To provide sufficient exposure time for the salt prints extended tonal range adjustments to the negative were necessary. These long exposures then converted sufficient silver salts to the image making metallic silver, utilising the intrinsic self-masking process. Ultimately this research has uncovered ways to control colour and tonal range and certain aesthetic qualities of the salt print, while simultaneously resolving some of the conflicts in published information. Accurate and consistent methods of processing eliminate staining, providing some stability to the print. The activities and steps carried out to make a salt print are manual; precise duplication is therefore almost unattainable. Nevertheless, although tests on a densitometer may display numeric differences, visual differences are barely noticeable.

Abstract:
In the last decades the demand for reading has increased significantly in our society. Reading is required to access the information transmitted by the most various ways such as billboards, magazines, newspapers, books and the internet. In a way, consumers, including the teenagers, are being daily bombed by the advertisements conveyed by the means of communication. The print advertising was chosen for this work of reading in the classroom with secondary school students because it is a discursive way constituted of very rich elements. The general objective of this research is to develop the secondary school students reading skills, particularly developing a print advertising reading project in the Portuguese Language classes, aiming at forming more proficient and critical readers of this type of discourse. Therefore, it was developed an action-research in two secondary school classrooms (grades 2 and 3), in a state school of a town in the Vale do Paraíba region, in the second bimester of 2011. The theoretical foundation for the analysis of the data obtained during the action-research refers to the reading socio-cognitive approach, to the Bakhtins concept of language and types of discourse, and to studies on print advertising. The analysis of the results of the activities developed in the classroom is done in a qualitative way, based on theoretical presuppositions elected as adequate for the research. This study enabled to carry out a work with the reading skills of the print advertising discursive way for a greater development of the students critical sense while reading this type of discourse. The proposed analysis of advertisements from reading procedures resulted in a level of knowledge of this kind of reading that might not otherwise succeed.

This research presents the main concepts and survey practices as an educational principle in Science Teaching in Basic Education in Brazilian contexts. The question that guided this study was: What are the conceptions and survey practices as an educational principle in Science Teaching, in Basic Education in Brazil? Therefore, the general purpose it is to understand the research as an educational principle in the Science Teaching in Basic Education in Brazilian contexts. This is a theoretical study with a qualitative approach, whose survey?s method consists in a Literature Systematic Review (LSR). The work consisted in the identification of Brazilian PhDs researchers, with at least two productions, in the period from 2000 to 2015. The key-words, in addition, should mention the expression " Sciences teaching ", referring also expressions such as: "educating by the research", "survey in the classroom", "investigation in the classroom", "teaching by survey", "research in school", "education through research," "classroom with research," "investigative classes", " investigative class ", "teaching by investigation" and "learning by survey". Therefore, it was found 88 researchers from several regions of the country, with the exception of the North Region. Examina as prerrogativas concedidas ?

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractIn 1969, members of Grupo Espeleológico Edelweiss discovered the Sala and Galerías de las Huellas in Ojo Guareña Cave system (Burgos, Spain). These contained hundreds of ancient human footprints, preserved in the soft sediment on the floor. These footprints represent the tracks of a small group of people who walked barefoot through these complex passages in the cave. Owing to the difficult compatibility of the documentation and preservation of these prints, it was not possible to study them before the development of new non-invasive remote sensing techniques. However, since 2012 optical laser scanning and digital photogrammetry have been used in Galerías de las Huellas, in combination with GIS techniques, to obtain a model of the cave floor, where the footprints and their internal morphology can be observed in detail. We have identified over 1000 prehistoric human footprints and at least 18 distinct trackways through the passages, which could have been left by around 8–10 individuals. Since 2016, an archaeological field study has been conducted in this sector, in order to determine and explore its surrounding area and find other archaeological evidence that may be directly associated with these tracks. Numerous remains of torches are preserved on the walls and floor in the immediate surroundings of the footprint sites. Some of them have been dated, which has revealed the intensive use of this underground landscape from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Mesolithic-Neolithic. However, the remains in Sala and Galerías de las Huellas date solely to the Chalcolithic, around 4300 calBP.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the license agreements imposed by IP rights holders that redefine transactions and strip consumers of ownership even after an apparent sale. Despite their importance, consumers seldom read these license agreements because of their length and complexity. In response, IP rights holders produce highly uniform license terms that impose restrictions on the rights acquired by consumers. There are two approaches of interpreting license agreements: one treating them as contracts that require the mutual consent to be effective, while the other construing license agreements as expression of permission that does not require agreement to be effective. Many courts rely on license agreements to determine whether consumers enjoy ownership over the things they purchase. The better approach, however, should be to look at the economic reality of a transaction.

Abstract:
Conventional DNA analysis techniques include cleavage of DNA by restriction enzymes, fragment electrophoresis, Southern transfer, probe labeling, probegenomic fragment hybridization, and print detection (Cawood 1989, Sambrook 1989, Berger 1987). Details of the assay conditions may vary considerably depending on the specific probes hybridized. Endonuclease digestion, electrophoresis, and Southern transfer are not required with simple dot-blot procedures. The quality of the final result can be no greater than the quality of the input DNA specimen and the attention of the analyst to assay details. The format of the analysis blot must be carefully considered to include control specimens and a broad range of size markers. The analyst must also be certain about the sizes of the profile fragments to accurately determine if matches exist between crime evidence and suspect specimen or offspring and putative parent specimens and to calculate the match probabilities. Restriction enzymes cleave DNA at specific recognition base sequences. It is important to choose an enzyme with sites flanking the repeats when fragments consisting of different numbers of tandem repeats are to be characterized for DNA profiling. Cleavage within a repeat sequence will result in the production of small fragments that may be unresolvable. The choice of enzyme, in this respect, is accomplished either by trial and error or by knowledge of the base sequence of the fragment flanking regions. The optimum reaction conditions vary for each enzyme; consequently, suppliers usually provide information sheets for the user. Digestion temperature and buffer salt concentration are the critical features. The reaction mixture can be overlaid with a few drops of paraffin oil to prevent vapor formation and changes in the buffer concentration. This applies mainly to enzymes such as Taq I that require high reaction temperatures (65°C in this example). Unless specifically indicated otherwise, three different strength ionic buffers will accommodate most enzymes.

This chapter unearths an untaken path of experimental film history. In the mid-1960s, Stan Brakhage, Bruce Conner, and Jonas Mekas were deeply invested in the possibility that 16mm experimental films might be made into 8mm reduction prints and made available for sale to home collectors. This chapter relates this little-known historical episode and questions what relevance this prioritization of access over quality might have for us in the contemporary moment, when these terms are once again embroiled in a fierce battle.

Abstract:
Abstract Traditional air filtration systems for Gas Turbine Naval applications consist of 3 stages: 1st vane separator + pocket filter + 2nd vane separator. The 2nd vane separator is required to drain out droplets formed by the traditional pocket filter during its coalescing function. Further to technological advancements in the water repellency of filter media, as well as leak-free techniques, it is now possible to implement a pocket filter that avoids leaching water droplets downstream. This enables the elimination of the 3rd stage vane separator in the air filtration system. The result is a suitable 2-stage air filtration system. The elimination of the 3rd stage vane separator provides the obvious following advantages: • Reduced pressure drop • Reduced weight • Reduced foot-print • Reduced cost Latest technological advancements in water repellency and high efficiency melt-blown media also allow the attainment of higher performance such as: • Increased efficiency against water droplet and salt in wet state • Increased efficiency against dry salt and dust This results in higher cleanliness of the Gas Turbines with benefits in terms of compressor fouling, compressor blades corrosion and turbine blades hot erosion. Higher performance also results in simplified maintenance as technicians need only focus on the replacement of the elements as opposed to the cleaning and overhauling of the intake duct. The paper goes through the engineering challenges of evolving from a 3-stage to 2-stage filtration system. The paper provides data from testing at independent laboratories with results that back the claims. Abstract:
Several methods are being attempted to improve the performance of PEM Fuel cell electrodes so that the cost of the overall system can be brought down. The performance can be improved if the utilization of the catalyst in the electrode increases. One of the early successful method was to add a proton conducting polymer, such as NafionR to the catalyst layer. However there is a limit to the amount of NafionR that can be added as too much NafionR affect the gas diffusion. The other method is to increase the surface area of the catalyst used which has also been adequately demonstrated. Alternative methods for providing increased proton conductivity and catalyst utilization are thus of great interest, and a number of them have been investigated in the literature. One method that is being extensively investigated is to introduce the catalyst onto the polymer electrolyte membrane followed by lamination with gas diffusion electrode. In the present work, we have carried out two methods i) screen print the catalyst ink on the NafionR membrane ii) catalyze the NafionR membranes by reducing a suitable platinum salt on the membrane. Standard gas diffusion electrodes were then laminated onto this membrane. The performances of Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) prepared by these routes have been compared with the commercially available Gore catalysed membrane. It was observed that catalysed NafionR membranes show a better performance compared to the catalyst ink screen printed on the NafionR membrane and commercial Gore membrane under identical operating conditions. However MEAs with Gore membrane give a better performance in the iR region compared to the other MEAs prepared using NafionR membrane. The lesser performance with Gore membrane is probably due to the limitations in the lamination method employed.
