Abstract:
When a car is parked under the sunlight for a long period of time, solar radiation enters the vehicle through the car glass and becomes trapped inside the car. This causes the cabin interior air temperature to increase and this is especially noticeable in tropical countries with hot and humid climates that are situated near the equator like Brunei Darussalam. Aside from causing thermal discomfort to the passengers inside the car, degradation of the surfaces of the car interior may also be accelerated. This paper aims to demonstrate the severity of the heat by recording a number of temperature measurements in a certain period of time for two different types of cars, under three different conditions for each car and comparing them to the ambient temperature. It is observed that the interior temperature depends on the design of the car. We experimented temperature measurements for two types of car models, i.e., saloon and SUV models. Saloon car is design such as way that its interior volumes space is smaller than the SUV designed car. The smaller interior volume spaced Saloon car exhibits higher maximum temperature of 68.7°C whereas the larger interior volume spaced SUV car exhibits maximum temperature of 59.4°C under fully exposed to sun with same environmental conditions.

Abstract:
In a car CFD simulation, different types of mesh could change the output of the simulation and may differ with the results gathered using wind tunnel experiment. Therefore, adjusting and getting the best mesh for the simulated car model is an important step in a CFD simulation. This study investigated the effect of the different number of elements on a saloon car CFD simulation. The elements themselves have a similar mesh quality, but the number of elements ranged from just over a couple hundred thousand to over 3 million elements. The results show that with this number of mesh, the accuracy did not increase significantly even though the elements multiplied in amount. It is suggested that simulation with higher number of elements might be the best choice if the facilities are supportive. It is also shown that the lower number of elements could be an alternative because the accuracy is sufficient.

Abstract:
This paper deals with simulation results of a planar passenger car model, supposed to simulate a ‘standard European saloon car’, with simple linear cushioned seats and a seated human model, which accounts for variation in the body weight. As excitation a short harmonic undulation (so called ‘rollete’) is used, sometimes encountered ahead of traffic-light-controlled road crossings. The simulation results indicate some dependence of the respective frequency response characteristics on the stipulated driver's and passenger's weights. Further large vertical acceleration values at axle hop frequencies are observed, which may under circumstances even exceed the standard gravity acceleration. These decrease with increased traversing velocity, say, above 50 km/h to bearable values. Further it is illustrated that the visibility of lights or signs may be momentarily impaired when accelerating from standstill at a road crossing with a large ‘rollete’ directly before the crossing.

Abstract:
This paper describes the control of automotive active engine mounts, consisting of a conventional passive hydraulic mount and an internal electromagnetic actuator. The actuator generates a force dependent on a control signal from an algorithm implemented in real time. The filtered- x least-mean-square (FXLMS) adaptive filter is applied to a system of two active mounts fitted to a saloon car equipped with a four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The steady state and transient performance of the active system is experimentally evaluated, and is found to typically reduce chassis vibration by 50 per cent to 90 per cent under normal driving conditions.

Abstract:
Owing to the advantages of weight loss and security, duplex steel plate has been the priority for the saloon car body instead of ordinary one among a majority of engine factories. While there are undesirable phenomena because of its high strength at normal temperature, such as its formability is worsened dramatically, and failure and fracture always occur in the stamping. So hot stamping process must be adopted to make the formability available. Based on the Bumper chain of Beijing Hyundai Reina and taken DP600 high strength steel as research object, this paper analyzes the distributions of stress, strain and thickness changes during the process of sheet metal forming by using eta/DYNAFORM software, simulates the spring-back quantity after hot stamping forming, and the numerical simulation of the temperature field distribution with time during stamping process was done. The result shows that duplex steel plate can meet the performance requirements of automotive chain forming, which offers theory basis for the production of such parts.

Abstract:
Thesis (M. Tech. ( Business administration )) - Central University of technology, Free State, 2012
Proliferation of the hair salon business in the Bophirima region has led to intense competition for customers and this can have unfortunate consequences for hair salon’s competitiveness hence survival and economic performance. The only choice left for hair salons in the words of owner/managers who were informally interviewed is to obtain accurate information on market trends and customer preferences so as to tailor products and services to meet customer preferences. From a strategic management perspective, it makes perfect sense that in the highly competitive arena that hair salons in the Bophirima find themselves, research on industry environment to obtain accurate information on market trends and customer preferences so as to tailor products and services that meet customer preferences is a must if they are to prosper. In other words, hair salons in the Bophirima region need to conduct marketing research if they must prosper. Conceptually, it is argued in this study that market research will reveal variables such as market demand, market opportunities, market threats, etc. which if scientifically analysed can produce information that can aid management in making informed decision that can lead to superior business performance. Unfortunately, there is the perception among the few hair salon operators informally interviewed in the Bophirima region that for small businesses such as hair salons, engaging in marketing research will be too expensive, cumbersome, and time consuming hence unnecessary. However, this perception may not be true as normative assertions and research evidence elsewhere suggests that for service organisations, regardless of size, marketing research leads to superior performance. The purpose of this study was to determine the status of marketing research within the hair salons in the Bophirima region and the impact that hair salon’s engagement in generally accepted (conventional) elements of marketing research activities have on the economic performance (as measured by profitability). Analysis of data obtained from 118 owner managers suggest that marketing research may not be something they engage in although they are very much aware of the business benefits of engaging in marketing research. The findings also suggest possible positive link between marketing research activity and profitability. Details of the research as well as conclusions and recommendations are presented and discussed in the report that follows.

Abstract:
AbstractIn the context of vulnerable tourist attractions, it is often the case that tourists cannot be allowed the enter all the premises of the attraction, which potentially has a negative impact on the visitors’ experience. Virtual reality technologies are available for presenting the attraction for tourists in these cases, but the use of augmented reality (AR) also seems to have a role in certain use cases. The current paper presents our first experiment of using a walk-in augmented reality model to present an attraction to visitors near the original attraction. The tourist attraction visualized using AR was Mannerheim’s Saloon Car dating back to World War II. Nine participants used a tablet-based AR application to examine a realistically sized three-dimensional (3D) model of the saloon car in the close vicinity of the actual tourist attraction and filled in a questionnaire, which probed their user experience, spatial situation model, and spatial presence when using the system. These early results suggested that viewing a 3D model of the attraction using tablet-based AR provided a positive user experience for the participants and that the tablet-based AR implementation was successful in supporting the participants’ formation of a spatial situation model of the saloon car. The participants also gave relatively high ratings for spatial presence while viewing the 3D model using tablet-based AR.

Abstract:
African beauty salons are important institutions in African and African American communities and can be found in nearly every city and community where African immigrants live. This study utilizes case study to explore the pathways to African women's entrepreneurship and business sustainability in hair braiding within the care industry. While social exchange theory and standpoint theory help to illuminate the “non-choice” of salon entrepreneurship for educated African immigrant women, Lave and Wenger's (1991) notion of communities of practice further discloses how the salon space becomes dedicated to more than service delivery. In general, the study shows the efforts of one entrepreneur to fit the unique exigencies of hair braiding to local (western) business requirements. The study identifies how more accommodation of those exigencies would less inhibit this form of African women's entrepreneurship in general and thus benefit local communities at large through more sustainable service delivery, increased revenue flow, and infrastructural support for immigrants in general.

Abstract:
It was stated that the use of urban wastewater in food production in the 1970s and 1980s may lead to the development of alternative farming systems in the future. Fish fed with wastewater are grown in Asian countries. However, due to the mixing of domestic wastewater with industrial wastewater, many toxic micro-polluting wastewaters affect fish farming even more. The objectives of this study were to investigate the suitability of fish for human food consumption in terms of metals, to provide a basis for the development of a standard on the concentration of heavy metals in reclaimed water used for fish aquaculture, and to search the possibilities of technical improvement of the system in terms of more efficient wastewater treatment. This study will be useful in terms of precautions and disadvantages that can be taken against food shortages that may be experienced with the effect of climate change.

Abstract:
<em>Abstract.</em>—Studies have documented density-dependent growth of salmon in the ocean during early and late marine stages in response to competition between species. However, key questions remain as to whether competition and reduced growth at sea translate to lower survival of salmon, and whether changes in ocean regimes can alter this relationship. Few studies have tested these questions, in part, because the capacity of the ocean to support salmon is dynamic and smaller adult size has been associated with high abundance, which infers high overall survival. In support of salmon management activities in the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim (AYK) region, we review evidence from recent studies suggesting that competition at sea can lead to reduced salmon growth and survival and to potentially lower reproductive potential of survivors. Climate change may, however, also affect prey availability and therefore influence the magnitude of competition. Salmon growth (and survival) responses to competition and climate shifts can vary with season and life stage of salmon. We conclude that growth of salmon is key to their survival and that competition at sea is an important, yet often elusive mechanism affecting salmon population dynamics.

Abstract:
Olfaction is the most primitive and important chemosensory system for detecting a wide variety of environmental changes and is involved in various functions required for survival. Salmon have an efficient olfactory system; their olfactory abilities are inferior to those of dogs but superior to those of humans. Salmon olfactory systems can discriminate seasonally and yearly stable compositions of dissolved free amino acids in their natal streams produced by biofilms in the riverbed, and salmon can imprint on single amino acids before and during smoltification and discriminate these amino acids in the spawning season several years later. This chapter describes the structure and functions of the olfactory systems in salmon, previous olfactory hypotheses for salmon homing, properties of natal stream odorants, and biochemical and molecular biological studies on salmon olfactory functions.

Abstract:
The push towards creative and active learning in higher education has gained momentum in recent years, creating opportunities for innovative, student focused approaches. The Covid-19 pandemic shifted the educational landscape to the online world, propelling the need to create compelling learning activities for students. While also fostering a sense of community and facilitating both peer relationships and peer learning. This paper presents the development and initial implementation of an innovative teaching tool, The Virtual Shoe Salon, which is based on creative pedagogies and experiential learning. The Virtual Shoe Salon has been implemented to embed stronger skills in research and data analysis within the curriculum of our fashion business courses. As a teaching method it can embrace both online and face to face environments. Drawing from a theoretical foundation of material culture, combined with an adaptation of the photovoice research approach, this salon takes the ordinary, but expressive objects of shoes to engage students in research and analysis through collaboration, conversation and peer to peer learning. The paper presents the rationale for the Virtual Shoe Salon, and findings from its implementation with 250 students. Subsequent evaluation and reflection with both students and staff have evidenced the positive role of the Virtual Shoe Salon in facilitating active and collaborative learning around research and data analysis. While it has actively encouraged a dynamic and collaborative learning environment, the Virtual Shoe Salon has initiated a shared space underpinned by the sense of community and belonging for students that Covid-19 had eroded .

Abstract:
This study explores the average flow field inside and around stocked Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) fish cages. Laboratory tests and field measurements were conducted to study the effects of biofouling and especially fish behaviour on the flow patterns around and through fish cages. Currents were measured around an empty and a stocked fish cage in a fjord to verify the results obtained from laboratory tests without fish and to study the effects of fish swimming in the cage. Fluorescein, a non-toxic, fluorescent dye, was released inside a stocked fish cage for visualization of 3-dimensional flow patterns inside the cage. Atlantic salmon tend to form a torus shaped school and swim in a circular path, following the net during the daytime. Current measurements around an empty and a stocked fish cage show a strong influence of fish swimming in this circular pattern: while most of the oncoming water mass passes through the empty cage, significantly more water is pushed around the stocked fish cage. Dye experiments show that surface water inside stocked fish cages converges towards the center, where it sinks and spreads out of the cage at the depth of maximum biomass. Furthermore, the converging surface water swirled in the direction of the swimming fish. In order to achieve a circular motion, fish must accelerate towards the center of the cage. This inward-directed force must be balanced by an outward force that pushes the water out of the cage, resulting in a low pressure area in the center of the rotational motion of the fish. Thus, water is pulled from above and below the fish swimming depth. The laboratory tests with empty cages agree well with field measurements around empty fish cages, and give a good starting point for further laboratory tests including the effect of fish-induced currents inside the cage to document the details of the flow patterns inside and adjacent to stocked fish cages. The results of such experiments can be used as benchmarks for numerical models to simulate the water flow in and around net pens, and model the oxygen supply and the spreading of wastes in the near wake of stocked fish farms.

Abstract:
Infection with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious illness in people who are more vulnerable to infection, and hospitalisation and death can occur in serious cases. There are several factors that make people more vulnerable to infection with this bacteria, such as: pregnancy (where infection may lead to miscarriage or illness in newly born babies) ageing (as the immune system weakens with age, older adults - usually defined as those who are aged 65 and over - can be more susceptible to listeriosis compared with the general population) people who are considered immunocompromised due to a medical condition or treatment Certain ready-to-eat foods (foods that are not expected to undergo cooking) can allow the survival and growth of Listeria monocytogenes. Ready-to-eat smoked fish (such as smoked salmon and trout) is recognised as one of these foods. This risk assessment was requested to provide evidence to support a review of the advice for vulnerable consumers on the risk of eating ready-to-eat smoked fish.

Abstract:

Nosova, Olga. Structural Changes and the Ukrainian Labour Market Organisation. Publishing House - Vilnius Business College, June 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.57005/ab.2023.1.1.

Abstract:
The article aims to analyze the structural changes and the Ukrainian labor market organization in the condition of military aggression against Ukraine. The Ukrainian economy encounters the devastating destructions and losses of economic entities, enormous capital, and labor under the effect of military aggression. Structural changes include a change in the industrial structure of production, the destruction of large enterprises, and supply chains, the loss of part of the labor force, and fluctuations between skilled and unskilled jobs. Thus, SMEs in the service sector suffer due to the reduction of the population in cities, which causes both a reduction in demand for certain types of services (hotel and restaurant business, beauty salons, providers of extracurricular educational services, etc.) and a reduction in the supply of highly qualified specialists (IT sector, experts in financial, design and consulting services). Small business because of the war feels caught between the minimum possible sale of their products and reduced demand. The basic research questions are identifying and estimating the urgent needs of the labor market and capital. It will be directed to define sectors that can speed up the process of rebuilding the economy. Diversifying the economy, increasing product/service sophistication, using comparative advantages and transfer of resources (both labor and capital) leads to more productive activities and a rise in well-being.

Abstract:

Sessa, Guido, and Gregory Martin. MAP kinase cascades activated by SlMAPKKKε and their involvement in tomato resistance to bacterial pathogens. United States Department of Agriculture, January 2012. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2012.7699834.bard.

Full text
Abstract:
The research problem: Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato (Pst) and Xanthomonas campestrispv. vesicatoria (Xcv) are the causal agents of tomato bacterial speck and spot diseases, respectively. These pathogens colonize the aerial parts of the plant and cause economically important losses to tomato yield worldwide. Control of speck and spot diseases by cultural practices or chemicals is not effective and genetic sources of resistance are very limited. In previous research supported by BARD, by gene expression profiling we identified signaling components involved in resistance to Xcvstrains. Follow up experiments revealed that a tomato gene encoding a MAP kinase kinase kinase (MAPKKKe) is required for resistance to Xcvand Pststrains. Goals: Central goal of this research was to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which MAPKKKεand associated MAP kinase cascades regulate host resistance. Specific objectives were to: 1. Determine whether MAPKKKεplays a broad role in defense signaling in plants; 2. Identify components of MAP kinase cascades acting downstream of MAPKKKε; 3. Determine the role of phosphorylation-related events in the function of MAPKKKε; 4. Isolate proteins directly activated by MAPKKKε-associatedMAPK modules. Our main achievements during this research program are in the following major areas: 1. Characterization of MAPKKKεas a positive regulator of cell death and dissection of downstream MAP kinase cascades (Melech-Bonfil et al., 2010; Melech-Bonfil and Sessa, 2011). The MAPKKKεgene was found to be required for tomato resistance to Xcvand Pstbacterial strains and for hypersensitive response cell death triggered by different R gene/effector gene pairs. In addition, overexpression analysis demonstrated that MAPKKKεis a positive regulator of cell death, whose activity depends on an intact kinase catalytic domain. Epistatic experiments delineated a signaling cascade downstream of MAPKKKεand identified SIPKK as a negative regulator of MAPKKKε-mediated cell death. Finally, genes encoding MAP kinase components downstream of MAPKKKεwere shown to contribute to tomato resistance to Xcv. 2. Identification of tomato proteins that interact with MAPKKKεand play a role in plant immunity (Oh et al., 2011). We identified proteins that interact with MAPKKKε. Among them, the 14-3-3 protein TFT7 was required for cell death mediated by several R proteins. In addition, TFT7 interacted with the MAPKK SlMKK2 and formed homodimersin vivo. Thus, TFT7 is proposed to recruit SlMKK2 and MAPKKK client proteins for efficient signal transfer. 3. Development of a chemical genetic approach to identify substrates of MAPKKKε-activated MAP kinase cascades (Salomon et al., 2009, 2011). This approach is based on engineering the kinase of interest to accept unnatural ATP analogs. For its implementation to identify substrates of MAPKKKε-activated MAP kinase modules, we sensitized the tomato MAP kinase SlMPK3 to ATP analogs and verified its ability to use them as phosphodonors. By using the sensitized SlMPK3 and radiolabeled N6(benzyl)ATP it should be possible to tag direct substrates of this kinase. 4. Development of methods to study immunity triggered by pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) in tomato and N. benthamiana plants (Kim et al., 2009; Nguyen et al. 2010). We developed protocols for measuring various PTI-associatedphenotypes, including bacterial populations after pretreatment of leaves with PAMPs, induction of reporter genes, callose deposition at the cell wall, activation of MAP kinases, and a luciferase-based reporter system for use in protoplasts. Scientific and agricultural significance: Our research activities discovered and characterized a signal transduction pathway mediating plant immunity to bacterial pathogens. Increased understanding of molecular mechanisms of immunity will allow them to be manipulated by both molecular breeding and genetic engineering to produce plants with enhanced natural defense against disease. In addition, we successfully developed new biochemical and molecular methods that can be implemented in the study of plant immunity and other aspects of plant biology.
