Abstract:
Charlotte Salomon's 1942 series of paintings, Life? or Theatre?, into which she incorporates elements of music and drama, wonders whether life and theatre are polar opposites or an engaged dialectic. Salomon anticipated the advent of performance theory by insisting on the performative qualities of her paintings. Her art exists in the unstable, ever-changing space between past and future, fact and fiction, life and death.

Abstract:
U ovom članku autori analiziraju slavnu presudu kralja Salomona.

Pounders, Lisa A. "Transformation through art: exploring Jung's view of art and the relevance of Charlotte Salomon's Life? or Theater?" International Journal of Jungian Studies 8, no. 2 (May 3, 2016): 110–26. http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/19409052.2016.1140065.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThis paper explores Jung's concepts regarding art, the significant role of creativity in his notion of individuation, and art's relationship to transformation. As an illustration, it introduces Charlotte Salomon – a German Jewish artist who was murdered in the gas chambers at Auschwitz in 1943 – and her unique surviving opus, Life? or Theater? – a fictionalized autobiographical play-like work of art combining painted images, written words, and music. Applying Jung's theories as a lens, it broadly analyzes Salomon's work and considers it in light of Jung's distinction between psychological and visionary creative modes. In the process I reveal a potential material connection between Salomon and Jung, and argue that Life? or Theater? is not only artistically but also historically relevant to Jungian theory. By exploring Life? or Theater? in this way, my paper proposes that Jungian theory is a potent critical lens which can reveal a work of art's transformative nature and cultural significance.

Abstract:
This article is the first part of a longer essay, which is divided into two parts. The Book of Wisdom is a special book in the Bible. It is the youngest book of the Old Testament, but Canon Muratori enlists it among the New Testament books. Many manuscripts and old translations call this book the Wisdom of Salomonos, because Salomon seemed to be the author of this work (cf. Wis 7–9). Strong arguments exclude his authorship, but it is sure, that an Israelite must have been the author. Although there are many hypotheses about the date of its birth, Sitz im Leben and the wording defend the view that the text must have been written while the Romans ruled in Egypt.

Abstract:
Abstract Charlotte Salomon's painted life history took shape in an extremely gruesome period: World War II. But Salomon's personal family history is also excep-tional: Almost her whole family committed suicide. This article explores the question of whether it is meaningful, or even legitimate, to refer to a work emerging from such a violent reality as a work of art. The article focuses on the many self-reflective passages in the images and text that deal with the function of art and the ways it is made. It is argued that Salomon did not provide the fate of her family and the horrible war with a deeper meaning in order to liberate herself from their horror. She did not write a realistic account of her reality, nor did she create an alternative world for it. Rather, her life history is a performance in the strictest sense: doing the work of working through her reality. (History; art criticism) A "life-testimony" is not simply a testimony to a private life, but a point of conflation between text and life, a textual testimony which can penetrate us like an actual life. Abstract:
This paper proposes a conversation between Charlotte Salomon (1917–43) and Edvard Munch that is premised on a reading of Charlotte Salomon’s monumental project of 784 paintings forming a single work Leben? oder Theater? (1941–42) as itself a reading of potentialities for painting, as a staging of subjectivity in the work of Edvard Munch, notably in his assembling paintings to form the Frieze of Life. Drawing on both Mieke Bal’s critical concept of “preposterous history” and my own project of “the virtual feminist museum” as a framework for tracing resonances that are never influences or descent in conventional art historical terms, this paper traces creative links between the serial paintings of these two artists across the shared thematic of loneliness and psychological extremity mediated by the legacy of Friedrich Nietzsche.

Abstract:
The aim of the article is to examine the figure of an artist in the novel Charlotte by David Foenkinos. With his text, he desires to pay homage to Charlotte Salomon, a Jewish painter murdered at age twenty-six in Auschwitz. The Salomon’s biography and works became famous thanks to the novel by Foenkinos. The great merit of his book is to make the painter recognizable to a wide public. The interpretation of the text in which central figure is a painter should include a question about the generic status of the novel, thus the reflection about the Künstlerroman, and about the status of the image in the text, the narrative processes used to make the text more plastic, the ekphrasis, etc. The problem seems interesting because Charlotte does not correspond with the traditional definition of the Künstlerroman. The narrator refers the reader to the extradégétique reality in order to make a connection between the reader and Charlotte’s painting; therefore, he focuses his story on the conception of the image and not on the image itself.

Holland, Sophie-Christin. "Studien zur lateinischen Sapientia Salomonis." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/21680.

Full text
Abstract:
The dissertation entitled "Studies on the Latin Wisdom of Solomon" deals with textual criticism, textual history and the comparison of texts, namely with regard to the Vulgate tradition but also with regard to the other Latin traditions of Wis. First, it is brought out to what extent and why the three modern critical editions of the Vulgate text of Wis differ in their reconstructions of its archetype. Moreover, the differing readings in the respective recension lines are evaluated. Subsequently, the question is addressed for which reason a qualitatively rather deficient Latin text form of Wis has found its way into the Biblia Vulgata. Initially, the Vulgate tradition of Wis is shown to have emerged in the fifth century AD in Rome; based on this, the success of this text form is ascribed not to a purposeful decision but to an interdependence and an interrelation between the use of this text by catholics in Rome and the Roman book production. Eventually, by means of the translation of the Greek terms athanasía, aphtharsía, dikaiosýne and nómos and their corresponding adjectives, the Vulgate text of Wis is demonstrated to affiliate to its Greek and Latin model texts closely but to feature peculiarities due to its translation method as well. In the Vulgate text, textual references are dissolved in comparison to the Greek text, and the eschatological sketches of the Greek text appear to be somewhat reduced in the Vulgate text of Wis. In addition, it becomes apparent that the Vulgate text of Wis has arisen – unlike the original Greek text – not from a Jewish but from a Christian milieu. All in all, a better contextualisation of the Vulgate tradition of Wis regarding the other Latin traditions, its historical environment and its Greek Vorlage is achieved.

Ketterer, Hobbis Stephanie. "An ethnographic study of the State in rural Solomon Islands (Lau, North Malaita) : a quest for autonomy in global dependencies." Paris, EHESS, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016EHES0709.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is based on ethnographic fieldwork in Solomon Islands capital, Honiara (four months), and in the rural Lau Lagoon, Malaita Province (eight months). It examines how the Solomon Islands state, marked by a recent history of civil conflict and foreign military intervention, becomes visible in the everyday lives of rural and, to a lesser degree, urban non-elites; and how this visibility affects non-elite perceptions of the state as legitimate, dominant governing system. I propose that to understand to what extent and how the Solomon Islands state is integrated into everyday routines it is necessary to focus on mundane encounters with the state, its infrastructures and representatives as well as available alternatives; and to do so by prioritizing the perspective of the non-elites rather than the perspective of the disciplining state and state-focused members of (an urban) civil society. My findings highlight that the Solomon Islands state is visible as a disruptive force. As a result non-elites continue to defy state-based unification and instead seek relative autonomy from the state by emphasizing the dominance and legitimacy of village-centric governance. This quest for autonomy is, however, increasingly curtailed by dependency on foreign foods and goods, and therein by a dependency on the state as primary globally-recognized legitimate mediator of economic relations

Abstract:

Abstract:
The main focus of this deliverable is testing and benchmarking the available infrastructure using the execution frameworks PyCOMPSs and HyperLoom. A selected benchmark employing the Multi Level Monte Carlo (MLMC) algorithm was run on two systems: TIER-0 (MareNostrum4) and TIER-1 (Salomon) supercomputers. In both systems, good performance scalability was achieved.
