Kim, Ki-Hueng, and Kwan-Ryul Lee. "What Are South Korean Consumers’ Concerns When Buying Eco-Friendly Agricultural Products?" Sustainability 11, no. 17 (August 30, 2019): 4740. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/su11174740.

Full text
Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze how perceptions of eco-friendly agricultural products affect food choice criteria, based on a sample of 225 study participants (consumers) in Sejong City, South Korea. We focused on the following criteria: Health, food safety, environmental protection, trust, reputation, nutrition, and taste. We used factor analysis to classify responses into three types of consumer attitude: Organic-minded, pesticide-free focused, and local food-minded. Then, we applied a logit analysis to determine values of agricultural products (dependent variables) and consumer attitudes toward eco-friendly agricultural products (independent variables). We found that South Korean consumers were not motivated by health or environmental protection, nor were they substantially concerned about food safety; their utmost concern was the reputation of organic products. Pesticide-free focused and local food-minded consumers placed a higher value on nutrition and taste, respectively, likely because, in South Korea, organic agriculture is a component of eco-friendly agriculture, leading to the entanglement in consumer perceptions of organic and pesticide-free products. This paper discusses how phased development strategies of organic agriculture, including the eco-friendly agricultural policy, have failed. It is therefore needed to develop and implement new policies for South Korean eco-friendly agriculture.

Aquino, F. "ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS OF A SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM." APPEA Journal 40, no. 1 (2000): 721. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/aj99050.

Full text
Abstract:
A successful Safety Management System is more that just words and numbers on pages. It is the way that human beings cooperate with each other for surviving the hazards around them. The Safety Case concept which arose from the inquiry into Piper Alpha is one of the best attempts made thus far at systematising safety using risk management techniques. Unfortunately the Safety Case and its embedded Safety Management System do not address the basic problem that people are imperfect machines and are wholly unpredictable at a detail level. To counter this, it is essential that managers keep people risk-aware, safety-motivated and improvement-minded. This requires humility, sincerity, good system content, clarity of responsibility, a disinterest in blame, an easy- to-use written reporting system, respect for life and unambiguous priorities of safety, quality and money.

Abstract:
The adoption of organic production and usage is highly strong-minded by market demand. Therefore, this is reflected in consumers’ awareness towards organic food products. There is a society hope in every country that food must be safe, in general for most of the people and most of the time, this expectancy is not met. The safety of food at all times cannot be controlled through strict legislation and systems. Much of the accountability for food safety lies with the agricultural sector and the processed food industry to ensure that reliable procedures are being practiced to produce over and over again safe primary produce and processed foods. Against this backdrop, an attempt has been made in this paper to study the consumer awareness with regard to consumption of organic food and also the sources of awareness about organic food product.

Abstract:
Overexertion injuries related to lifting, pushing, pulling, holding, or carrying objects are a leading cause of occupational injury in the construction industry. Although significant research exists on interventions and practices that could reduce the risk for these injuries, adoption by construction employers has been slow. Ergonomics researchers and safety advocates have struggled to effectively promote safer manual materials handling (MMH) in the complex and dynamic environment of construction sites. Our Ergonomics Community of Practice conducted formative research on the extent to which construction contractors are taking action to reduce MMH injuries, the barriers to engaging in safer practices, and how safety-minded contractors successfully overcame common barriers and associated risks on their job sites. These “positive deviants” used similar strategies regardless of their size or trade. Their strategies suggest fresh opportunities for repositioning and promoting safer MMH practices and increasing their use in the construction industry.

Full text
Abstract:
The Lac-Mégantic oil train disaster, July 6, 2013, was not a highly improbable, impossible-to-anticipate event. A number of prior conditions, the product of deliberate regulatory and corporate actions and inactions, contributed to the risk of a major accident. These preconditions include: three decades of railway deregulation under Conservative and Liberal governments under which railways gained increasing freedom to regulate themselves; a weakened, dysfunctional regulator and a flawed safety regime; a negligent company with repeated safety violations and penchant for cutting corners; a regulation-adverse , austerity-minded government indifferent to the growing dangers posed by the increase in the transportation of oil-by-rail; and an industry bent on blocking or weakening potential protective regulations affecting its costs. These preconditions provided the context for a series of mutually reinforcing regulatory failures, which accumulated, and as oil-by-rail grew, so too did the prospects of avoiding an accident diminish, to the point where the question became: when, where and how serious.

Abstract:
Social investment programs are designed to provide opportunities to the less privileged so that they can contribute to the socioeconomic development of society. Stakeholders in social safety net programs (SSNPs) target vulnerable groups, such as the urban poor, women, the unemployed, and the elderly, with initiatives that have a transformative impact. Inadequate policy awareness remains a challenge, resulting in low participation rates in SSNPs. To achieve all-inclusive development, deliberate policies and programs that target this population have to be initiated by government, corporate bodies, and public-minded individuals. Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques could play an important role in improving the managerial decision support and policy-making process of SSNPs and increasing the social resilience of urban populations. To enhance managerial decision-making in social investment programs, we used a Bayesian network to develop an intelligent decision support system called the Social Safety Net Expert System (SSNES). Using the SSNES, we provide an advisory system to stakeholders who make management decisions, which clearly demonstrates the efficacy of SSNPs and inclusive development.

Abstract:
In India we live in a society where men and women have equal rights but as far as it goes these don’t hold up in real life scenarios and practical situations for women. Despite having all these laws and regulations to protect the rights of a woman, they still face problems. Women have grown powerful and are conquering our world’s greatest positions/frontiers but they face issues with our society’s narrow-minded behavior. Every third woman faces physical abuse/harassment in this world. Women Safety is a matter of concern and a smart phone can be used efficiently for personal security and other protection purposes. The existing apps need the user to interact with the interface and follow a sequence of steps to make them work. We are going to solve it by eliminating the user interaction with the app by providing an instant solution.

Abstract:
Wild ungulate species provide a much-needed protein source to many communities in developed and developing countries. Frequently, these game meat animals are slaughtered, and the meat is unknowingly contaminated by microorganisms and released to the unsuspecting public. This review investigates the global usage of organic acids (lactic and acetic acids) as microbial decontamination strategies during slaughter. The results show that there is a more open-minded approach to adopting possible decontamination plans as a tool to improve meat safety during slaughter. Developed countries continue to adopt these strategies, while developing countries are lagging behind. While decontamination of carcasses can lead to a reduction of microbial load on these carcasses, this strategy must not be seen as a replacement of hygiene management during the animals’ slaughter.

Abstract:
Recent developments in understanding the concept of problem in problem-oriented policing denote valuable perspectives but mainly from a substantialist perspective. In this article, the relational perspective in thinking of safety problems was introduced, and some key advancements presented. Exploiting causal and constitutive reasoning and the idea of the complexity of problems, the self-actional, inter-actional, and trans-actional perspectives were used for determining the differences between the substantialist and relationalist perspectives. The concept of problem was analysed from two perspectives. First, in light of initial and recent elaborations of the term. Second, through the actual use of the term. The substantialist ethos dominated through the data analysed and it has both advantages and disadvantages. However, relational thinking calls for a deeper understanding of safety problems. Resigning from the substantialist ethos and asking whether there are pre-given A-s and B-s, and turning towards the idea that there is no A-s without B-s, creates an environment for a more open-minded understanding of problems in policing.

Abstract:
Interruptions caused by frequent smartphone use steals attention away from daily activities, bringing serious implications onto an individual’s health, safety and education. Smartphone Use Questionnaire (SUQ) is a 20-item questionnaire developed to assess the pattern of smartphone use and its effect on attention. This study was done to translate and validate the Malay-language version of the SUQ and to measure the psychometric properties of the Malay-version SUQ to justify its use in Malaysia. A forward and back-translation was done by four individuals, who were three physicians and one linguist. Content and face validity was done involving three experts who were a linguist, psychiatrist and epidemiologist. Psychometric testing was conducted on a sample of 195 individuals proficient in the Malay language. A construct validity test was performed using factor analysis and the internal reliability was tested by calculating for the Cronbach’s Alpha. The age range of the sample was 13-59 years, most of which were female and of the Malay race. Using principal component analysis with direct oblimin rotation, the factor analysis extracted two components similar to the original study: General Use and Absent-Minded Use. However, question number 20 was grouped into General Use component, whereas in the original study it was under the Absent- Minded Use component. The Cronbach’s Alpha for the obtained components was 0.884 and 0.927, respectively. This study found that the Malay-version SUQ was a valid and reliable instrument for use in Malaysia in assessing inattention associated with smartphone use.

Abstract:
Globalization era characterized by increasingly open and integrated commodity markets both between countries and between regions including fishery commodities. This imply that an increasing of product quality through empowering fishing resource is a significant step to be able to enter an era of competition. This study aims to identify the performance of the fisherman resources, a partnership between fishermen and fish entrepreneurs, and formulate alternative development model of fisherman resource with agribusiness minded. The research method is based on the survey method (primary and secondary data). Descriptive methods, descriptive statistics, and methods of the Logical Framework Analysis (LFA) are used to analyse data. The results showed that the fishermen, in general, are in the productive age with the typology of the nuclear family; more than half of the fishermen have junior secondary education level; fishing experience is categorized long enough that 18.26 years; fishermen have the motivation to keep working as a fisherman and a hierarchy of compassion (safety needs) by 60%; technical and managerial skills possessed by fishermen in general is quite good but the managerial aspects of fishing is still not good. Furthermore, most fishermen have high accessibility to the means of fishing, but only a few fishermen who use capital loans of non-formal institutions, mostly fishermen actively looking for information about fishing technology, relationship between the fishermen and fish processors/collectors is a patron client pattern, the market formed in the study area is oligopsonistic market, and net income of fishermen can be categorized enough. There are two alternative models of fisherman resources development with agribusiness minded: training model with a training for impact approach, and education model.Key words: agribusiness, development model, fisherman resources

Abstract:
Assets such as warehouse receipts are important for enterprises, which can be used to pledge in supply chain finance (SCF). However, traditional pledges are performed manually, which inevitably encounters inefficiency and security problems such as multiple pledges. To improve asset security, we propose a blockchain-based digital asset platform (BDAP) with multi-party certification. BDAP not only has a security protocol based on the threshold ECDSA algorithm to make related participants confirm the authenticity of assets but also embeds a Verifiable Byzantine Fault Tolerant (VBFT) mechanism, randomly selecting the consensus nodes and improving the safety of the nodes. Moreover, data stored on the blockchain makes traceability possible. Through a set of experiments, we have verified the functionality and performance of BDAP. When the pressure test reaches 100 concurrent user volume, BDAP’s average response time is 1.441 s, showing a high ability to process transactions. However, now just a few open-minded banks are willing to access BDAP, it might take a long time to change the traditional perception of the participants in supply chain finance.

Abstract:
Over the past 30 years, many national drug regulatory authorities have embarked on a process of gradual harmonization of all the technical aspects of studies, processes, and tests that generate the data necessary to support claims of quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines. This has been mainly a trade-driven process characterized by “region-specific” harmonization initiatives; the less-resourced authorities started this processes much later than the better-resourced ones. The immediate outcome of harmonized requirements is the eliminating of country-specific tests and studies, and the narrowing of gaps in the interpretation of data. This reduced the costs for pharmaceutical companies by enabling them to develop one single set of data and documentation to be submitted to several different countries. In addition, the harmonization processes are beneficial for public health: open-minded technical discussions and the exchange of ideas and experience among regulators of different countries contributes to strengthening the capacity of national authorities to expedite the assessment of priority medicines, and to filter out unsafe or substandard products.

Abstract:
This article describes the formation of the International Pharmacists-as-Immunizers Partnership (IPIP), an international network of pharmacy practice researchers with an interest in pharmacist-administered immunizations. Using funds obtained from a university-sponsored grant, a two-day meeting was held at the University of Waterloo in Canada to discuss published and in-progress research on the topic, identify gaps and priorities for future research, and share implementation strategies used in different jurisdictions. Twelve researchers from five countries attended this initial meeting, identified from both personal networks and from authorship lists from published research. Small- and large-group discussions addressed a number of themes, including: clinical, economic and educational outcomes of the service; the perspectives of pharmacists, patients, and other health professionals; operational and policy factors influencing uptake; safety; and the immunizing pharmacist’s role in disaster preparedness. Feedback on our first meeting and outcomes achieved were evaluated on the basis of participant feedback. Key components of the meeting that were considered successful and important lessons learned are summarized, so that other like-minded researchers with a shared pharmacy practice research interest could consider leveraging funding opportunities to establish other international pharmacy practice research networks.

Abstract:
AbstractTruth-subversion practices, which populist leaders utilize for political domination, are a significant source of current pressure on the Liberal International Order (LIO). Truth-subversion practices include false speak (flagrant lying to subvert the concept of facts), double speak (intentional internal contradictions in speech to erode reason), and flooding (the emission of many messages into the public domain to create confusion). Aiming to destroy liberal truth ideals and practices, truth subversion weakens epistemological security; that is, the experience of orderliness and safety that results from people's and institutions’ shared understandings of their common-sense reality. It privileges baseless claims over fact-based opinions, thus creating communities of the like-minded between which communication becomes impossible. Truth subversion challenges the LIO's three key institutions: democracy, markets, and multilateralism. If truth-subversion practices prevail, societal polarization, inaccurate information, and emotional inflaming strain democracy and human rights protections. Markets that depend for their functioning on accurate information can falter, and multilateralism that relies on communication and reasoned consensus can decay. International relations (IR) scholarship has recognized knowledge production practices as a key feature underlying the LIO, but has not yet identified challenges to those practices as a threat for the LIO. We discuss what the discipline can do to alleviate its blind spots.

Abstract: Indonesia is a state of law based on Pancasila. Natsir, views Pancasila as part of Islamic values, but that does not mean Pancasila is Islam. Islam is wider than the five precepts in the Pancasila. The five precepts only describe a portion of Islamic teachings, it can not represent the full teachings of Islam. For Natsir Pancasila to flourish in the fold of the Qur’an, the Pancasila can be realized or carried out well only in Islamic societies and countries. The State, for Natsir is the tool for Muslims to realize the Divine laws for the safety and tranquility of man. This is where Natsir sees the need for a driving force to realize Islamic laws, so Natsir emphasizes that Islam and the state are two unified relegio-political entities. The state for Natsir is not a goal, but a driving force for realizing Islamic laws, however, to realize those laws, an educated and high-minded society is always needed. For Natsir, a country will progress if its people are educated. According to him education is the most powerful role to advance a nation in lifting or increasing the condition of the people who are immersed in the mud of retardation. Abstract:
ABSTRACT When an oil spill occurs close to land it is highly likely that the cleanup of polluted shorelines is going to be required. Given this need it is somewhat surprising that more emphasis is not put into training personnel for such eventualities. When planning for shoreline cleanup operations a fundamental requirement for a successful response is to have practical-minded people who can take charge of supervising the cleanup of polluted beaches. These people must be clear where they fit into a response organisation, understand their roles and responsibilities, be aware of the importance of timely resource planning, and be good communicators. The skills required for this role include common sense, improvisation, record keeping, and leadership. Safety, waste minimisation, command, and control are among the more important issues to address. This paper describes a 3-day modular training programme specifically developed to focus on the Shoreline Supervisor's role. It identifies the success factors that a Shoreline Supervisor should aspire to and also the tasks that are so vital in the daily planning cycle. Plans work well when the people expected to make them work are given the resources to succeed. Shoreline Supervisor training is one of those essential resources.

Abstract:
National governments worldwide work to improve education and health outcomes for children and youth and influence their behaviours. Also heavily engaged are national non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the voluntary and non-profit sector. While individual agencies and non-profit organisations are often concerned with specific issues of interest related to their charge, constituency or membership, they often develop allegiances with like-minded groups to accomplish broader goals. Two such collaborations in the United States are the focus of this discussion, the National Co-ordinating Committee on School Health and Safety (NCCSHS) and the Friends of School Health (hereafter, "the Friends"). This article reviews these two significant partnerships of public health and education NGOs and outlines successful strategies and lessons learned from the development of these large-scale partnerships. NCCSHS is a collaboration of 64 NGOs and six U.S. government departments representing both the fields of public health and education. Nearly all major NGOs working in fields related to school health are represented, and the six primary governmental agencies all have at least some responsibility for students' health and safety. The group is the primary intersection of NGOs and the Federal government related to school health at the national level. The Friends of School Health ("the Friends") is the primary school health advocacy coalition at the national level in the United States. Sixty-one education and public health NGOs participate. The coalition serves as a communication mechanism and venue for collaborative action on issues before the U.S. Congress and state legislatures that relate to school health. Since the coalition advocates to legislators and other decision makers, no government agencies participate. The paper describes the strategies relating to the initial development of the collaboratives and their ongoing operation. A common theme in development of both of these examples of large-scale partnerships is trust. Like any partnership, the ability to work and grow is dependent on the level of trust among the partners. Both the National Coordinating Committee on School Health and Safety and the Friends of School Health work together successfully within and across their collaborations, to improve health and educational outcomes for children and youth. While both experience challenges, and neither would indicate that its work is near completion, they provide important insight into how these collaboratives can initially develop and subsequently operate productively while providing important contributions to the promotion of healthy schools, and ultimately, healthy nations.

Abstract:
Background: Surgical site infection (SSI) can be defined as an infection that is present up to 30 days after a surgical procedure if no implants are placed and up to one year if an implantable device was placed in the patient. SSI is a significant problem associated with major surgeries and is the 3rd most frequently reported nosocomial infection. This study aims to study the prevalence of SSI in the Department of Surgery, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi. Methods: A retrospective study was undertaken at the Department of General Surgery for a period of one year. Retrospective chart review was conducted from the hospital database. The rate of SSI was studied in relation to its type, the type of surgical procedure and elective vs emergency surgeries. Results: The present study revealed 12.5% prevalence of SSI in Department of General Surgery, RIMS. Among the 3 types, superficial incision SSI was most prevalent followed by deep incisional SSI and finally by organ/space SSI. The surgical procedure most commonly associated with SSI was exploratory laparotomy. An alarming 17.7% of SSI was associated with emergency surgeries as compared to 12.5% of elective surgeries. Conclusions: The consequences of SSIs greatly impact patients and the healthcare systems. Prevention of SSI requires a multifaceted approach targeting pre-, intra-, and postoperative factors. It is imperative that facilities have open-minded management teams, regulatory agencies and medical associations that want to provide the foundation required to generate a culture of patient safety in our health care systems.

Abstract:
IntroductionFor an inmate incarcerated for life we could acknowledge factors contributing to the desire to commit suicide, as social isolation, insensitive discipline, lack of privacy, constant threat of violence, fear, guilt, hopelessness, and depression are prominent in the life imprisonment.AimsTo discuss the ethical issues of prevention suicide in inmates incarcerated for life.MethodsWe performed thorough research of the main medical databases, and web search engines for relevant studies, articles and opinions and reviewed them independently.ResultsPrevalence of mental illness is high among inmates and several common stressors typically herald an inmate's suicide. Suicide is often the single most common cause of death in correctional settings. Even though some suicide victims have consulted a mental health service-provider before their suicide, the majority of suicide victims were not mentally ill. The paradox, particularly for life sentence inmates is that we are trying to persuade an inmate to live within a disciplinary environment, which has as side effect the increase of suicidality of the inmates.ConclusionsPrisons’ inability to protect the health and safety of inmates could raise ethical issues. We have obligation to adequate suicide prevention for all inmates, and we should be more broad minded as the will to die in mentally healthy individuals is beside an free will expression, a sign of serious lack of support and humane living conditions. We should be vigilant not to use the prevention of suicide programs as another way to increase punishment of life long imprisonment.Disclosure of interestThe author has not supplied his declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a loss of clinical clerkship opportunities for medical students. To address this problem while maintaining patient safety, this pilot study explored the feasibility of using a wearable headset to live stream teaching ward rounds to remotely based medical students.MethodsThree live streamed teaching ward rounds were delivered to three groups of medical students (n=53) using the Microsoft HoloLens 2 device and Microsoft Teams software, and results pooled for analysis. Feedback was gathered from students and instructors using the evaluation of technology-enhanced learning materials (ETELM). Patient feedback was gathered using the Communication Assessment Tool to explore any impact on interpersonal communication.ResultsThe response rate for the ETELM-learner perceptions was 58% (31/53), 100% for the ETELM-instructor perceptions. Students strongly agreed that the overall quality of the teaching session and instructors was excellent. However, 32% experienced issues with audio or video quality and one remote student reported cyber sickness. The statement ‘educational activities encouraged engagement with session materials/content’ returned the most varied response. Instructors reported technological problems with delivery while using the HoloLens 2 device and environmental noise in the ward was a disruptive factor. Preparation and skilled facilitation were key to delivering a high-quality teaching session. Patients reacted generally favourably to the technology and no negative effects on interpersonal communication were identified.ConclusionThe experience of live streamed ward rounds was well received by patients, medical students and teaching faculty. However, there remain limitations to the routine use of HoloLens 2 technology in our setting including steep learning curves, hardware costs and environmental factors such as noise and WiFi connectivity. Live streamed ward rounds have potential postpandemic implications for the judicious use of resources, and the possibility for few educationally minded clinicians to teach at scale in a patient-friendly manner.

Abstract:
The article considers the forms of political participation of generation Z in modern Russia and gives an assessment of the prospects for digital forms of this participation. The paper describes the characteristics that distinguish generation Z in terms of the influence of these characteristics on the political behavior of its representatives, as well as possible motives for the political participation of young people. The authors give the results of a study that allow you to get answers to the questions: what features make this or that form of political participation the most attractive for generation Z? Is generation Z really critical and negative about regime? Can digital forms of political participation become mainstream in the country’s political life thanks to youth and the rapid digitalization of society? The paper describes the criteria for the attractiveness of various forms of political participation, such as rallies, actions, demonstrations, strikes, hunger strikes, revolutions, elections, crowdfunding, written appeals to the authorities and petitions, participation in political movements and parties, meetings with political figures. These criteria are: personal safety, speed of implementation of the form, the ability to attract attention and find like-minded persons. According to the results of the study, the authors substantiate the conclusion about the prospects of using digital forms (in particular, online voting) of political participation, primarily due to the speed and security that distinguish digital forms of political participation from traditional ones: it is very convenient to express your civic position from anywhere in the world, while simultaneously doing other things and not fearing negative consequences for participation. In addition, digital forms of political participation are demanded by young people as the most convenient, as they are built into their “natural habitat” – the space of social networks.

Abstract:
Topicality of this work is related to the need to improve the methodology of environmental training of military personnel. The contradiction between the goals and objectives, proclaimed in the system of ecological training and uppbringing in the armed forces of the Russian Federation, and low level of ecological culture and incompetence in issues of ecological safety actually demonstrated by servicemen, is evident. The aim of the article is to develop a model for realising the pedagogic potential of the military ecology course to achieve the goals of environmental training of servicemen. The ones chosen as leading methodological guidelines, include value-minded ones as well as culturological ones in the issues of military ecology course content selection, system-activity and integrative approaches at organisation of teaching and cognitive activity when forming ecological component of military-oriented professional competences; principles of educational environment creation for formation of ecological worldview of the specialist's personality (Aleksandr Ivashchenko, Viktor Panov, Aleksandr Gagarin et al.); integration of professional and environmental education (Aleksandr Gagarin, Yelena Cherdymova et al.) in the context of embedding new knowledge into the existing structure of “cognitive niches” (Helena Knyazeva). What is proposed as the results of the study include the justification of the model of developing a system of training tasks on the example of forming the ecological component of military professional competences. Examples of interconnection of content-activity components at different stages of realisation of pedagogic potential of military ecology course are given; as well as results of pedagogic experiment; methodical recommendations are offered; research prospects are defined. The article is of interest for teachers of military ecology, for pedagogic community of institutions of higher military education, as well as for graduate and post-graduate students developing the issues of their own courses in professional education.

Abstract:
Biomarkers are ubiquitously used within drug development programs in both nonclinical species and in humans to assess safety and efficacy of novel compounds. To routinely apply such novel biomarkers with certainty, a well-defined data package is necessary for review and endorsement by regulatory agencies including the US Food and Drug Administration, European Medicines Agency, and Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency. This type of endorsement is known as regulatory qualification. Novel approaches are being applied to speed the process, lower the resource intensity, and increase the accessibility of biomarker qualification data and it is likely that consortia will continue to play a fundamental role in the qualification process by bringing together like-minded stakeholders focused on specific tools to accelerate drug development. This article will focus on learnings from the previous three nonclinical biomarker qualification projects, as well as discuss the progression of preclinical biomarker projects into the clinical qualification space and the current strategy for the use of nonclinical biomarker data in the translational qualification of clinical biomarkers; much like nonclinical information is used in the approval of drug development candidates. Impact statement This minireview provides an overview of the history of preclinical biomarker qualification by summarizing the three examples of this type of qualification with US Food and Drug Administration, European Medicines Agency, and Japanese Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency. In addition, an overview of the biomarker qualification process is included to educate key stakeholders with links to relevant white papers that provide information on current evidentiary considerations. The manuscript also provides new information on the evolution of the role that preclinical qualification plays in clinical qualification of biomarkers and the novel approaches that are being utilized to improve the process.

Abstract:
This work aims to analyze the relationship between security and peace and their present conditions in Latin America, based on the research of these issues in international publications in various media and data collection indicators available in studies with statistical reliability. There is also the goal of obtaining a set of indicators in the light of existing jobs and new contributions that may show the “state” of present Security and Peace conditions in Latin America and infer about the future of such conditions, with a view to proposing actions between and within countries of the region. The Security-Peace binomial presents us with a fundamental question regarding the relationship of cause and effect - the safety results from the peace or peace is a consequence of security? Independent-minded succeed or not answer this question we have to consider that the two factors have impacts on the wellness of the human being. Equal opportunities and valuing life are fundamental principles that pave the road to full citizenship in Latin America, and without which it won´t make sense any attempt to try to achieve security and peace. The Security Commission Hemispheric of the Organization of American States Permanent Council emphasizes in a recent meeting (March 2000) that among the premises for reformulation of the hemisphere’s security concept are “the need to recognize the close links between security, development and consolidation of democracy as well as the historical relationship between peace and democracy”. We are hence at a very special moment of our historical trajectory, where notorious disrespect for human rights are a frequent threat to populations of Latin American countries. Initiatives to education, focusing on children and youth, with heavy use of art and science, may make all the difference and create today a future of peace and security, based on fraternity among all peoples.

Abstract:
The UN Environment Programme has identified plastic waste as one of the urgent challenges of the 21st century and has set 2024 as the target date for the drafting of an international legally binding agreement on plastic pollution. While the concern for plastic pollution is justified, a workable solution that considers both the role that plastics play in society and the economy, and the scientific and technological challenges involved, will take a major global effort. The six thermoplastics that are most widely used today were not designed to be recycled. Likewise, over 10,000 chemical additives in plastics were not tested for their health and environmental safety. The complexity of plastic waste makes their effective management very difficult and uneconomic. A new system with two types of plastics is proposed: circular plastics that can be chemically reprocessed, and bio-based plastics that are designed for single-use and are biodegradable. This will require R&D into new plastics, as well as new standards and regulations. At the same time, R&D into the conversion of our current plastic waste into environmentally safe products must be undertaken. These will require a multi-sectoral approach which assigns responsibility to all sectors. Industry should institute extended producer responsibility and develop circular plastics. Society should adopt extended consumer responsibility. Government should replace its single-minded focus on GDP as the sole measure of development with the more holistic UN Sustainable Development Goals. This transition will not happen if it is seen only as a technological challenge. This transition will require a multi-sectoral approach which assigns responsibility to all sectors of society. We will not be able to reimagine plastics if we do not reimagine society.

Abstract:
On the 24th of February, 2022, a hostile invasion of the Russian army began on the territory of our country, along the entire length of the common border, from Luhansk to Chernihiv, as well as from the territory of Belarus and the occupied Crimea. The Russian occupiers are destroying our cities terribly and heartlessly. The occupiers continue their attacks, but they are unable to overcome the strong-minded Ukrainians, courageous soldiers - the Armed Forces, who are defending their land. The city of Kharkiv, which was the first capital of Ukraine, was awarded the honorary title of the city of Heroes, due to persistent resistance to the predatory bombing of military and industrial facilities, educational institutions, health care facilities, as well as civilian and residential facilities. As a result, the rapid evacuation of the city's population to more remote cities in Ukraine or abroad began. Peaceful people were forced to leave and leave their homes for safety, taking only essentials. But, unfortunately, the territories of most Ukrainian cities to which people were evacuated are overcrowded and do not have the necessary number of residential buildings that would provide comfortable conditions for temporary shelter for internally displaced persons. Therefore, this article aims to solve the global problem of today, namely, the creation of comfortable living conditions through new urban planning entities - energy-efficient ecological settlements for refugees. This settlement should provide the most rational organization of space, be compact, energy efficient, adapted to the selected area and fast in implementation, thanks to innovative technologies - prefabricated buildings. The aim of this study is to identify optimal ways to organize energy-efficient ecological settlements for refugees by building compact types of buildings that are energy efficient and quick to implement. Based on this goal, various types of compact buildings that are energy efficient and fast to implement, features of design solutions for residential buildings that are environmentally friendly and energy efficient and three-dimensional solutions for the organization of energy efficient environmental settlements for refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Abstract:
Resort to public policy in order to impugn a foreign judgment or to negate the effects of the application of foreign law has correctly been given a narrow compass by the English courts. In the sphere of common law choice of law rules in contract and tort this approach has been encouraged by the in-built forum bias of the rules themselves which reduces significantly the need for circumvention of foreign law. At common law a tort, for example, is never actionable in England unless the cause of action is recognised as a tort by English law.1 The common law choice of law rules in contract, ostensibly less parochial, are so open textured however as to leave a judge minded to apply English law rarely without legal justification for doing so. An increase in the resort by English courts to the safety mechanism of public policy is therefore anticipated by most commentators to be a direct result of placing the choice of law rules in contract and tort on a statutory footing, respectively, by the Contracts (Applicable Law) Act 1990 and the Private International Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1995.2 What was achieved openly through an application of the rules themselves may now be arrived at less ingenuously by more indiscriminate resort to the mechanism of public policy. At one extreme a danger exists that public policy may become a badge of partiality resorted to for no better reason than to protect the perceived innate superiority of the forum's rules. At another, a misplaced desire to promote international comity may lead to an exclusion of public policy where it ought properly to be invoked; a balance must be struck. The delicate question of the correct weight to be accorded to the doctrine of public policy recently fell to be determined by the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands3 in Wheeler v. Wheeler.4

Abstract Introduction Physicians have long held Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) conferences to discuss complications and deaths. The format for these conferences is to lay out the case, discuss the care performed, and generate discussion on areas of opportunity. Physician M&M usually focuses on teaching and the presenter may not be the caregiver. There is not much literature on the use of this teaching methodology in nursing. Due to the strong culture of safety on the unit, it was determined that creating a Nurse M&M could prove beneficial for discussion of complications, deaths, errors, and good catches as they related to nursing care. Methods Nurse M&M is held monthly for one hour. All personnel involved in the cases are informed ahead of time what will be discussed. They are given the opportunity to present the individual case or give personal testimony as to the situation from their point of view. Each case is presented in the same format. The initial slides cover background, history of present illness, and the origin of the report. Next is the pertinent review from the electronic medical record and discussions had with those involved in the case. The floor is then open for discussion. If there was a variation in practice, the policy that relates to the error is reviewed. Topics for Nurse M&M are gathered through many venues. The hospital uses an online reporting system for electronic submission of adverse events, variations in care, and good catches. The entire multidisciplinary team have all individually reported something they wanted discussed at Nurse M&M. If clarification is needed on a case, the question is directed to the appropriate decision maker and followed up on. Results Nurse M&M is the most highly attended, non-mandatory, meeting held on the unit. The nursing staff was surveyed to determine their perceptions on how the addition of Nurse M&M had effected them. The results were overwhelmingly positive. All nurses surveyed rated the statement, “I feel that Nurse M&M has had a positive outcome on the unit’s collective practice”, as agree or strongly agree. Over time, the notes taken have evolved from just the discussion to action items created off the case. The staff have will now self-report events before they are entered into the online system. Conclusions The nursing staff are highly engaged Nurse M&M. The staff are open to discussing errors in a way that fosters educational growth and critical thinking development. If the case being discussed is because of a personal error, more often than not, the person responsible will discuss why they made the decision they did and facilitate the discussion as to what could have been done differently. The nurses’ commitment to being present, engaged, and open minded are strong signs of the healthy work environment present on the unit. Applicability of Research to Practice The format of a nursing M&M conference is applicable to all units. Patient safety and nurse engagement are the top factors effected by Nurse M&M.

Abstract:
The aim of the research is to identify specific of AI in healthcare, its nature, and specifics and to establish complexities of AI implementation in healthcare and to propose ways to eliminate them. Materials and methods: This study was conducted during June-October of 2020. Through a broad literature review, analysis of EU, USA regulation acts, scientific researches and opinions of progressive-minded people in this sphere this paper provide a guide to understanding the essence of AI in healthcare and specifics of its regulation. It is based on dialectical, comparative, analytic, synthetic and comprehensive methods. Results: One of the first broad definitions of AI sounded like “Artificial Intelligence is the study of ideas which enable computers to do the things that make people seem intelligent ... The central goals of Artificial Intelligence are to make computers more useful and to understand the principles which make intelligence possible.” There are two approaches to name this technology - “Artificial intelligence” and “Augmented Intelligence.” We prefer to use a more common category of “Artificial intelligence” rather than “Augmented Intelligence” because the last one, from our point of view, leaves much space for “human supervision” meaning, and that will limit the sense of AI while it will undoubtedly develop in future. AI in current practice is interpreted in three forms, they are: AI as a simple electronic tool without any level of autonomy (like electronic assistant, “calculator”), AI as an entity ith some level of autonomy, but under human control, and AI as an entity with broad autonomy, substituting human's activity wholly or partly, and we have to admit that the first one cannot be considered as AI at all in current conditions of science development. Description of AI often tends to operate with big technological products like DeepMind (by Google), Watson Health (by IBM), Healthcare's Edison (by General Electric), but in fact, a lot of smaller technologies also use AI in the healthcare field – smartphone applications, wearable health devices and other examples of the Internet of Things. At the current stage of development AI in medical practice is existing in three technical forms: software, hardware, and mixed forms using three main scientific-statistical approaches – flowchart method, database method, and decision-making method. All of them are useable, but they are differently suiting for AI implementation. The main issues of AI implementation in healthcare are connected with the nature of technology in itself, complexities of legal support in terms of safety and efficiency, privacy, ethical and liability concerns. Conclusion: The conducted analysis makes it possible to admit a number of pros and cons in the field of AI using in healthcare. Undoubtedly this is a promising area with a lot of gaps and grey zones to fill in. Furthermore, the main challenge is not on technology itself, which is rapidly growing, evolving, and uncovering new areas of its use, but rather on the legal framework that is clearly lacking appropriate regulations and some political, ethical, and financial transformations. Thus, the core questions regarding is this technology by its nature is suitable for healthcare at all? Is the current legislative framework looking appropriate to regulate AI in terms of safety, efficiency, premarket, and postmarked monitoring? How the model of liability with connection to AI technology using in healthcare should be constructed? How to ensure privacy without the restriction of AI technology use? Should intellectual privacy rights prevail over public health concerns? Many questions to address in order to move in line with technology development and to get the benefits of its practical implementation.

Abstract:
Safety regulations are too often disproportional in the sense that their costs outweigh the benefits. Although this is well known, years of trying to reduce safety related regulatory pressure has not resulted in much success. Two important causes for this have not received much attention up to now. One of these is a faulty perception of how the general public regards risk. We argue that the intractable citizen's behaviour needs better understanding. The second cause is the single-mindedness of risk experts which calls for specific instruments to be harnessed.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed daily life; with more than 303 million infections contracted globally and over 43.4 Million people infected in India, the pandemic's toll continues to rise. At the end of 2020, the good news was on the horizon that COVID-19 vaccines had been developed. Growing attention has been paid recently all over the countries to control the COVID-19 pandemic. College students are one of the populations for vaccination as they are the pillars of the future. More understanding is needed in the aspects of willingness to take vaccination and factors influencing their vaccination intention, thereby contributing to developing and implementing effective strategies to promote COVID-19 vaccine uptake among this population. Background: All counties were facing an unprecedented public health challenge of the global pandemic The only way to block the spread of the disease is through vaccine administration, like how other vaccine-preventable diseases like smallpox, Poliomyelitis, and measles were controlled or even eradicated. Research also has proven evidence for the safety and scientific validity of COVID 19 vaccines based on trials that presented a promising effective way to control the transmission of the dreadful disease. Although older people are at more significant infection fatality risks for COVID-19, the Younger generation is more vulnerable to COVID-19 infection, and the transmission rate is higher comparatively than the older population, especially those engaged in activities with a higher risk for exposure. College students can be affected by campus outbreaks and the spread of COVID when they return home or go out for social activities. Therefore, students could be an ideal population to investigate their view on COVID-19 since they are well educated and open-minded and supposed to be the active spreader of the current pandemic Methods: An online or web literature review or articles review of 31 articles related to Covid-19 and Vaccination was conducted through Pub Med/Google Scholar and BMJ and NIH databases published during the years from January 2018 to April 2022. Results: The coronavirus pandemic has left a distinctive marking worldwide, and the changes are continuing in all aspects of human life, work, education, and recreational activities. Along with the other preventive strategies, Vaccination uptake is one of the essential preventive strategies to protect people from COVID-19 Infection. This literature review studied attitude and perception related to vaccination uptake, hesitancy, and influential factors related to COVID-19 vaccine administration and the theories related to Vaccination. Most college students intend to accept vaccinations despite differences in attitudes toward vaccination uptake globally. Psychologists believed that motives drove belief in conspiracy theories to understand one's environment, safe environment and maintain a positive self-image and social group. The first two were what people needed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The responsibility lies in government institutions where they should implement strategies to eliminate the concerns about the COVID-19 Vaccines. Conclusion: The article search found that in all the selected literature reviews, a significant proportion of college students have a positive attitude towards vaccine administration to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Correct knowledge of COVID-19, trust, good conceptions and social behaviour were important factors or determinants in students' willingness to vaccinate. The information on social media significantly impacted vaccine acceptance among college students. Government should strengthen creditability and convey trusted communication with the influence of social media, and improvement in vaccination services are critical in provoking college students to be vaccinated at the earliest Keywords: COVID-19 pandemic, Attitude and perception towards Vaccination hesitancy, influencing factors, theories associated with COVID-19 vaccine, college students.

Several distinguished scholars have contributed previously to this debate and I have been privileged to consider their arguments. In doing so, I have been mindful that the realities of life frequently pierce the armor of high-minded principles. An important caveat on my views is that the debate is about senior officer resignation in the U.S. armed forces. A distant observer might therefore miss some of the important nuances at play, but it is difficult not to conclude that the U.S. armed forces exercise significant political influence in their own right and collectively through the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They are certainly major cogs in the formidably complex machinery of both government and politics.

Abstract:
Students often arrive at university producing stilted and passive conversations based on patterns learned from junior high school onwards. While grammatically correct, these patterns are often completely divorced from the reality of serious communication. Speaking classes for first-year students therefore present a golden opportunity for students to start asking themselves critically, “Does it make sense for me to say this?” Functioning with a degree of pragmatic competence is an essential step for learners in becoming skilled English users, equally comfortable communicating overseas or with non-Japanese at home. This article proposes (a) a conversation model as a safety net for novice speakers, (b) conversation strategies to correct five common pragmatic errors such as introducing topics at the wrong time, failure to announce topic change, ineffective listening leading to inappropriate questions, the policeman interview, the spotlight performance, and failure to end conversations appropriately, and (c) functions of conversation that generate student content and stay away from junior high school level topics. We also provide examples of real exchanges that took place in the classroom to show how pragmatic competence develops.

Abstract:
Why would politicians recruit soldiers for military coups d’état? The civil–military relations literature assumes politicians aspire to supremacy over the military; enabling praetorianism would risk their future rule. While civil–military relations widely recognizes the empirical fact of civilian participation in military takeovers, no study specifies or theorizes the topic. This essay examines the conditions in which politicians recruit soldiers to seize power by investigating the understudied processes of military takeovers. Using British Foreign Office documents, Arabic language memoirs, and Polity data, I find that civilian statesmen in Iraq (1936) and Syria (1951) could not tolerate their civilian rivals’ incumbency but were unable to challenge them peacefully, so they recruited like-minded officers for coups. This suggests that while politicians do not necessarily want the army in the chambers, they sometimes favor praetorianism to the continued rule of their civilian opponents.

Abstract:
How do people think they should prepare for tornadoes? To answer this question, we surveyed 340 people in six states in tornado alley and presented eight severe weather preparation choice sets that varied short and long-term benefits and costs with benefits or to the individual or to the community. Fifty-six percent of respondents preferred tornado preparations for the long-term that benefit individuals rather than the community. Correlations between personal characteristics, future expectations, and an individual’s preferred preparation strategy show that being married, expecting stronger tornados, and having an individualistic worldview significantly increased the choice of individual preparation options. Past tornado experience and one’s current protection level were not significantly related to individual-minded preparation choices. Out of 18 independent variables analyzed, individual worldview was the best predictor of a person’s preferences. Individual worldview by itself had better predictive power than a regression model that included an individual’s socioeconomic status, past severe weather experience, expectations about future tornados, and current protective measures for severe weather by itself. These findings can inform elected officials considering public policies for natural disaster preparedness and deciding between tradeoffs for keeping government costs low or providing benefits for everyone in the community. Our results are useful for planners and emergency managers who develop strategies to encourage tornado preparation by citizens in the community. For example, emergency managers can replicate the study with options specific to their community to determine what government communications or actions could prompt individuals to put protective measures in place.

Abstract On 8 March 2017, International Women’s Day, Brazil adopted a two-year National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) with a clear commitment by the government for integrating gender perspectives in peace and security policies. With this decision, Brazil responded to the UN Security Council’s call for all Member States to develop national strategies to allow for successful implementation of Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000). Considering that it took almost two decades for Brazil to consider adopting its own plan, the driving forces behind this decision beg further exploration. This article draws on the concept of gender entrepreneurs to argue that the emergence of the Brazilian NAP was the result of an informal network of like-minded women, positioned inside and outside the government’s structures, who teamed up to harness political opportunities for change and push for the adoption of WPS global norms into a formal national commitment.

Abstract:
The last two years have been incredibly challenging for the domestic and international hospitality industry. To gain insights from New Zealand hospitality professionals who are also AUT alumni, Lizzy Coughlan, Human Resource Manager of the Hotel Britomart, Auckland, was interviewed by AUT’s Associate Professor Tracy Harkison. When Coughlan was asked about working in hospitality, she responded: I love hospitality because daily you encounter so many different types of people, it is a family feel industry. You meet people from around the world, so it gives you so much exposure to different life experiences. I am a people person, and it has been an industry I have loved ever since I started at AUT. I wanted to be in an industry where people are the main subject, and hospitality is that industry to a tee. When asked about the unique aspects of the New Zealand hospitality industry, she explained: We have a lot of history. Hotels are learning more about Māori heritage and incorporating it into their establishments. New Zealand is a unique travel destination, from the mountains and snow in Queenstown to the big city feel in Auckland. With such diversity we appeal to a wide range of travellers world-wide. When Coughlan was asked why someone should start a career in hospitality and what advice she would give, her view was that: People often don’t realise that within hospitality it’s not just the operational roles you can do, it’s everything from revenue management through to HR. There are so many different things you can be exposed to within hospitality. It’s not just waiting tables, cleaning dishes and being a chef; careers wise you can move up very quickly in hospitality into a different field that you may not have thought of before. Coughlan stressed the importance of starting from the entry level. Start in the industry at an entry position. It gives you the understanding of how a hotel operates; you can go through lots of different departments. It gives you the skills that you need in a management role, as you understand the facets of the business and you can be a very effective leader. Studying and gaining a degree will serve your career very well. My best piece of advice is to just get in the door and work your way from there. When Coughlan was asked about her greatest leadership challenge, the COVID-19 situation, and what she would change about the industry, she emphasised passion and being agile: In hospitality you have a lot of very passionate people, and everyone has very different leadership styles. So, it is about understanding how best to lead when you have different personalities and styles to content with. So, my greatest leadership challenge has been understanding all the different leadership styles and then trying to figure out how to work with them, especially within a HR function role, because it can be challenging at times. But the more you understand them, the more you learn, and the easier it gets. For COVID-19 our biggest decision was first and foremost the health and safety of our team and our guests. We took the stance that we need to take care of our people first, and then we made the business decisions from there. One thing remained throughout lockdown – taking care of our team and making sure they were supported. It was also about being really agile, as things were changing daily, and you have got to have a Plan A and a Plan B. So being agile and take it from there. However, she also warned of the dangers of the industry, advising of ways to preserve one’s work-life balance. The industry is going through a huge transformation with a new generation of workers coming through. We are seeing a lot more people wanting, and rightfully so, more fair pay, more flexibility, more work life balance. Within traditional hospitality there is the mentality that you sometimes work long hours, so industry really needs to become more agile and open minded to different ways. We can approach work life balance by working from home, but within the parameters of an operational business, that is what I would like to see more of.

Abstract:
Abstract Understanding and promoting the CSR is an important societal issue, and circumstances force modern-minded management to abandon the classical model of only the necessary fulfilment of legally set obligations. There has been a lot of study done on employee perceptions of CSR in the workplace, but very little has been done on how employees comprehend CSR and how they received it at their work-place in chosen countries. Research was carried out based on a questionnaire survey with data collection from September 2020 to March 2021, with a total of 1103 respondents. The aim of the article is to describe the CSR concept among employees meaning in selected countries: Zimbwabwe, Czech Republic, Poland. The measuring instrument used in the study was the questionnaire method, in which the research tool is a questionnaire CAWI - Computer Assisted Web Interview. It was shown that enterprises apply CSR activities, but they are not fully aware of the CSR benefits.

Abstract:
Throughout the many years of accelerated life testing (ALT) development, colleagues have found numerous ways to take advantage of the interaction of stress and failure mechanisms.[1-14] In an ideal situation, the reliability engineer will have ample time, samples, test resources, and knowledge to conduct ALT. However, this is often not the case. Trading off the risks in conducting ALT and meeting the myriad constraints and expectations is a challenge. Understanding the basics of ALT approaches and associated assumptions permits test designers to select the ALT method that will provide meaningful results in time for technical and business decisions while meeting budgetary and risk-tolerance limits. There is no single way to design ALT for a specific set of conditions, but clearly articulating the tradeoffs involved permits the entire design team to fully understand the test results. The "best" ALT is a method that adds value to the design process. The most accurate results would involve testing all the production units in customer use until all units have failed. Although this is clearly not practical, neither is the simple-minded approach of guessing at the results. In between these two extremes lies an optimal approach: the most efficient ALT that provides meaningful results. When the results provide information to make design or program decisions, ALT adds value. Reducing ALT costs by reducing sample size or test duration is possible, but doing so may significantly increase uncertainty of the results. Running the test longer to achieve more accurate results is often constrained by the timeline to make decisions. Such tradeoffs force reliability engineers to carefully design each ALT and determine the best path forward.

Abstract:
Farmers’ physical labor and debt are reduced as a result of agricultural automation, which emphasizes efficient and effective use of various machines in farming operations with the purpose of reducing physical labor and debt. It is a revolutionary idea in agriculture to create custom hiring centers, which are intended to make it easier for like-minded farmers to embrace technology/machinery for enhanced resource management practices. The study in question examines the significance of tool renting and sharing in the workplace. Rental and sharing equipment are two approaches that might be used to enable farmers to borrow equipment at a cheaper cost than they would otherwise have to pay for it. The following is a manual pilot study of 562 farmers in India to address the numerous challenges farmers face when looking for tools and equipment, as well as to determine their strong interest in the process of renting and sharing equipment. The study was conducted to address the numerous challenges farmers face when looking for tools and equipment and to determine their strong interest in the process of renting and sharing equipment. Farmers are divided into three groups according to the results of this poll: small, moderate, and large. Training and testing splits were used on the same data set in order to get a better understanding of the target variables. The data set for the survey was standardized in order to remove ambiguity. In this research, three different machine learning models were utilized: nearest neighbors, logistic regression, and decision trees. K-nearest neighbors was the most often used model, followed by logistic regression and decision trees. In order to get the best possible result, a comparison of the aforementioned algorithm models was carried out, which revealed that the decision tree is the better model among the others in this regard. Because the decision tree model is completely reliant on a large number of input factors, such as the kind of crop, the time/month of harvest, and the type of equipment necessary for the crops, it has the potential to have a social and economic impact on farmers and their livelihoods.
