Abstract:
This paper proposes the synthesis of single length cycle, single attractor cellular automata (SACAs) for arbitrary length. The n-cell single length cycle, single attractor cellular automaton (SACA), synthesized in linear time O(n), generates a pattern and finally settles to a point state called the single length cycle attractor state. An analytical framework is developed around the graph-based tool referred to as the next state transition diagram to explore the properties of SACA rules for three-neighborhood, one-dimensional cellular automata. This enables synthesis of an (n+1)-cell SACA from the available configuration of an n-cell SACA in constant time and an (n+m)-cell SACA from the available configuration of n-cell and m-cell SACAs also in constant time.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The main purpose of the study was to investigate the library needs and library usage of external students in remote areas. The study emphasised external students' perception of their own library needs. Four distinct areas of research evolved from the purpose of the study: to identify the library service needs of external students; to identify library use by external students; to identify external students' perceptions of library needs; and to identify student status in relation to library use. Information was collected by an interview with former external students, a questionnaire to the libraries involved in the study and by Nominal Group Technique (NGT) sessions with external students. The primary instrument was a questionnaire to the external students in the population under investigation requesting information of their library usage and needs. The population under investigation were external students enrolledin the South Australian College of Advanced Education (SACAE) and resident in Whyalla, South Australia. It was decided to survey the total population rather than a sample because of the small numbers involved. Thirty-five responses were received out of a population of 52, representing a response rate of 69 percent. The results of the survey were analysed using a Statview SE statistical package and a spreadsheet and graphics package, Excel. Frequency distributions were computed to determine the number of respondents who selected each option. The study found that the external students who used libraries tended to use a variety of libraries. Students used not only their own institution's library, but the a range of libraries accessible to them in Whyalla. The study concludes by identifying issues, recommending possible solutions, and identifying areas for further research.

Abstract:
The newest station in the South African National Antarctic Expedition, the SANAE IV, hostsnumerous research programmes. One is AMIGO which aims to establish the correlationbetween the solar wind and the magnetosphere. A magnetometer, located at a geographicposition of2.83°W, 71.67°S, consisting of two perpendicular coil sensors is installed to detectgeomagnetic field motions, also known as pulsations, in the North-South and East-Westdirections. ([7])The data, treated in this report, cover the years 2003 and 2004 with the exception of the 20first days in January 2003 and another randomly scattered 22 dates during both 2003 and2004 when the data are corrupt or simply just nonexistent. The data consist of detected pulses that are recorded as a voltage, unit m V, which aretransformed into corresponding magnetic flux density amplitudes. The interesting pulsationfrequencies are extracted from the respective powerspectra for certain time intervals. Toconduct this operation a MA TLAB-program that extracts these frequencies is later used toproduce statistics to provide a graspable view of the frequency distribution. The statistics show that the pulsations within the Pc4 range, and specifically the ones close toPc5, are most represented in the data, closely followed by the Pc5 and with a small but yetsignificant representation of frequencies from the Pc3 range. Pc 1 and Pc2 frequencies aredetected sporadically but their existence is negligible at the whole. It is also established that the daytime pulsations are scattered over a wider frequency spectrumthan during evening or morning, with the widest spectrum somewhere around noon ± 2 hours. Some of the results are in acceptable correlation with the theoretical assumptions such aswhere and when the different sources set up the pulsations.

Abstract:

Abstract:
All the desires to escape the cruel world of the reality in order to reach a spiritual and ideal world, all the desires of the absolute and the divine can be found at a very high level in Leconte de Lisle. In order to understand the impassibility of Leconte de Lisle and his haughty look, we must see him as he imagines him self, a poet priest. Leconte de Lisle founded a new religion of his, and by it be wished deeply become and immortal as a god and to take ages by his gospel which is his poetry. In this new religion, we turne back on the present, and we bury in the study of the dist ant past, and we will seeking for the formal beauty, in the origines of the primitives humanity. The poet, the priest of this new religion has a superior function, in the bosom of the humanity, that is to work as martyr of the present for the posterity. It’s also ralising the beauty, because, beauty of the artistic work makes its truth and its morality. In the new religion we offer sacrifices, because pain and suffering deify the man. We sacrifice our passions and love in order to die "from having loved too much". Also we glorify blood, who draws us the way of the absolute and the eternity. We glorify force, pride and virility. At last death is the ultimate end, the most sure way to win immortality and divinity. The holy book of this religion is an artistic work, a perfect poems and verses written after meditation and with measure

Hiyadutuje, Alicreance. "Ionospheric disturbances during magnetic storms at SANAE." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/54956.

Full text
Abstract:
The coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and solar flares associated with extreme solar activity may strike the Earth's magnetosphere and give rise to geomagnetic storms. During geomagnetic storms, the polar plasma dynamics may influence the middle and low-latitude ionosphere via travelling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs). These are wave-like electron density disturbances caused by atmospheric gravity waves propagating in the ionosphere. TIDs focus and defocus SuperDARN signals producing a characteristic pattern of ground backscattered power (Samson et al., 1989). Geomagnetic storms may cause a decrease of total electron content (TEC), i.e. a negative storm effect, or/and an increase of TEC, i.e. a positive storm effect. The aim of this project was to investigate the ionospheric response to strong storms (Dst < -100 nT) between 2011 and 2015, using TEC and scintillation measurements derived from GPS receivers as well as SuperDARN power, Doppler velocity and convection maps. In this study the ionosphere's response to geomagnetic storms is determined by the magnitude and time of occurrence of the geomagnetic storm. The ionospheric TEC results of this study show that most of the storm effects observed were a combination of both negative and positive per storm per station (77.8%), and only 8.9% and 13.3% of effects on TEC were negative and positive respectively. The highest number of storm effects occurred in autumn (36.4%), while 31.6%, 28.4% and 3.6% occurred in winter, spring and summer respectively. During the storms studied, 71.4% had phase scintillation in the range of 0.7 - 1 radians, and only 14.3% of the storms had amplitude scintillations near 0.4. The storms studied at SANAE station generated TIDs with periods of less than an hour and amplitudes in the range 0.2 - 5 TECU. These TIDs were found to originate from the high-velocity plasma flows, some of which are visible in SuperDARN convection maps. Early studies concluded that likely sources of these disturbances correspond to ionospheric current surges (Bristow et al., 1994) in the dayside auroral zone (Huang et al., 1998).
