The present thesis for a PhD in Education has the Human Sciences as its study focus. The study seeks to answer the following problem: What are the sense effects provoked by some discourses of Education nowadays, taken as a Human Science? Using particularly the studies of Nietzsche and Foucault as theoretical reference, four doctorate thesis defended in the Post Graduation Program in Education of Unisinos in 2006 and 2007 were analyzed. With this research I tried to point out features of the modern episteme that, even today, serves as positive ground for the composition of knowledge and moral operated by Education. It is about the relations with the ways of thinking the education and the research, especially in teaching, where what is being discussed is a certain regime of production of truths. Beyond that, I take Equality, Fraternity and Liberty, flags of the French Revolution, as emblematic figures of the modern episteme, which sustains the production of a certain moral subject. Going through these effects I

Full textThe topic of this Ph. D. thesis is the latest discovery of virtue ethics in Germany, developed in the frame of that moral philosophy Renaissance called Rehabilitierung der praktischen Philosophie. I use as a model the latest Anselm Müller's work. The first part of my work describes this context, whose cause is the requirement of giving back to ethics its ability to lead action. Observing political philosophy and hermeneutic school, we can discover their common origin: Heidegger's interpretation of Aristotle's ethics. German virtue ethics (Tugendethik), which is the main topic of the second part, is based on practical Neoaristotelism. Tugendethik can be a possible answer to the difficulty of moral philosophy that Rehabilitierung has shown. At first, I have highlighted the differences from the largest Anglo-American virtue ethics; then I have exposed the main concepts of this ethics model: virtue, wisdom, good life – as total human fulfilment and flourishing, allowed by virtues - and character – as a permanent changing fabric, woven by a continuous practice of virtuous or vicious acts. The main influence of every action is, in fact, not external, but internal: its target is the agent's personality. Therefore virtue ethics is a “first person-ethic”, because it cares more about the person who acts than about his singular actions.

Full textThe purpose of this report is to reflect upon the relevance of education in general and the coexistence of two subjects, Education for Citizenship and Catholic Moral and Religious Education, which focus on the concern for the formation of the citizen as an integral part of a democratic society with an active role. With globalization and the presence of different cultures, new challenges are imposed both on school and on education itself, considering that it must be multicultural and multireligious, aiming at establishing a certain social harmony. The role of education is therefore to help to understand the world and the other, as well as to cultivate the sense of belonging to a community. Bearing in mind that everyone has the right to education, one has to include in this reflection the pungent testimonial and the unusual persistence of a girl named Malala from Pakistan, who shows us how school and education play an active role in society and how both constitute basic instruments in the construction of an identity, which is currently defined as being technocratic and individualistic. In this regard, the State is responsible for providing all citizens with access to education and ensuring that all are able to participate actively in the society they live in. For this reason, the focus on education for citizenship is made clear, since it is a concern that comes from ancient times. In today’s society, it is extremely important to call for the need for citizens to be proactive and to have the ability to reflect critically about social problems, trying to avoid individualism, which results from the technocracy in our society today. However, the subject of Catholic Moral and Religious Education plays a very important role in shaping the character of citizens. If, on the one hand, Citizenship Education is concerned with active participation in the society of the citizen, the other subject, on the other hand, is concerned with the Integral Training, trying to help the individual on how to integrate with the others and develop the sense of selflessness.
