Abstract:
Victor Pelevin is one of the most prominent exponents of Russian literary postmodernism. His novel S.N.U.F.F. (2011) is analyzed in this paper. Pelevin’s novel is set in the future (but the book contains many allusions and references to contempo-rary reality). As the aftermath of the collapse of the old world (after apocalyptic events) the earth has been divided into two countries (two nations): Byzantion (Big Byz) with advanced technology (where 3D simulations have almost completely replaced real life) and Urkaine whose inhabitants are called Orks and who are technologically backward. To keep the people of Byzantion entertained, the news companies periodically start wars which are filmed by CINEWS INC. Pelevin focuses our attention on mass media manip-ulation methods and techniques. The writer demonstrates that television manipulates information and produces its “own” versions of events – its “own” version of the war. This self-creation of television (“hyperreality”) has no reference to what is authentic. The aim of this article is to present and discuss relations and connections between “real reality” and “hyperreality” (virtual reality), between real emotions and their simulacra, between a “real” man and a “sura” (a surrogate woman, a human-like doll).

Abstract:
Death and power in anti-utopian literatureIn the article, through the prism of the hero’s peculiar approach to death, Russian anti-utopian literature of the twentieth and twenty-first century is discussed. The author focuses primarily on the novel by Yevgeny Zamyatin We, a short story by Vladimir Makanin Escape Hatch and the work of Vladimir Nabokov Invitation to a Beheading. The author also mentions following publications: S.N.U.F.F. of Viktor Pelevin, Leningrad of Mikhail Kozyrev as well as Moscow 2042 — anti-utopian novel by Vladimir Voinovich and Telluria, a book by Vladimir Sorokin. The researcher emphasizes that the genre structure of the plot in Russian anti-utopian literature is based on two basic pillars: death and power. Those in power manipulate subordinates by threatening them with death, thus maintaining society under their brutal control. Death becomes the best way to escape for the anti-utopian heroes from the “mandatory happiness for all” announced by the authorities. According to the author, the anti-utopian saints and all anti-utopian hagiography demonstrate a sarcastic approach to death and life in this type of society.Śmierć i władza w literaturze antyutopijnejW artykule rosyjska literatura antyutopijna XX i XXI wieku analizowana jest przez pryzmat szczególnego podejścia bohaterów do śmierci. Autor skupia się przede wszystkim na powieści Eugeniusza Zamiatina My, opowiadaniu Władimira Makanina Właz oraz dziele Vladimira Nabokova Zaproszenie na egzekucję. Wspomina również utwory: S.N.U.F.F. Wiktora Pielewina, Leningrad Michaiła Kozyriewa, powieść antyutopijną Moskwa 2042 Władimira Wojnowicza oraz książkę autorstwa Władimira Sorokina zatytułowaną Telluria. Badacz podkreśla, że główna struktura fabuły w rosyjskiej literaturze antyutopijnej opiera się na dwóch podstawowych filarach: śmierci i władzy. Posiadający władzę manipulują podwładnymi, grożąc im śmiercią, utrzymując tym samym społeczeństwo pod swoją brutalną kontrolą. Śmierć staje się jednak najlepszym sposobem ucieczki antyutopijnych bohaterów od ogłoszonego przez władze „obowiązkowego szczęścia dla wszystkich”. Według autora antyutopijni święci oraz cała antyutopijna hagiografia demonstrują sarkastyczne podejście do śmierci i życia w tego typu społeczeństwach.

Abstract:
The article deals with olfactory perception modus comparisons in postmodern literature (on the example of literary text by V. Pelevin: «Omon Ra», «Life of Insects», «Chapaev and Emptiness», «Generation «П», «Numbers» (as a part of «DTP»), «The Sacred Book of the Werewolf», «Empire V », «S.N.U.F.F.»). The aim of the study is to consider the olfactory perception modus comparison features in V. Pelevin's literary texts. During the study the following research methods were applied: theoretical, statistical, distributional analysis, descriptive, the method of continuous sampling. The special feature of postmodernism – the equalization of opposites – has been analyzed. The following peculiarities of olfactory perception modus comparisons in postmodernism – intertextuality, use of various types of comic means, re-thinking, rhizomatics, rejection of hierarchies – have been revealed and analyzed. The names of researchers considering these features of postmodernism are listed below: I.S. Golovanova, E.I. Dashevskaya, T.G. Prokhorova, I.S. Skoropanova. The article identifies features of rhizomatics that are expressed in fragmentation and uncertainty of comparisons. Results. The features of postmodernism manifestation in olfactory comparisons of V. Pelevin's literary texts are given. The rejection of hierarchy feature is represented by the frequency use of axiologically unmarked comparisons, rather than axiologically positively and negatively marked comparisons. The use of different types of comic means is represented by derision, ironization and impersonation of phenomena that are created by introducing comparisons into the text. Intertextuality consists of remembering the smell by a character. The feature of re-thinking the comparison of the olfactory perception modus is represented by a qualitative change in the consciousness of reality facts perception.

Abstract:
<p>The idiom &ldquo;twice two is four&rdquo; along with its variations is seen in the article as a marker of the situation of an &ldquo;underground man&rdquo;. In literature of the twentieth century the &ldquo;underground&rdquo; in its ethical and philosophical aspects has expanded its meaning, becoming the context of a utopian and antiutopian thought, absorbing the tragic experience of Russian culture after Dostoevsky. Of course, the widespread locution &ldquo;as sure as twice two is four&rdquo; does not always point at this variety of meanings, but it can be reached only in combination with the psychological type of the &ldquo;underground man&rdquo;. Thus, the image of Stalin in the novel &ldquo;the First Circle&rdquo; by Alexander Solzhenitsyn is considered as a variation of the &ldquo;underground&rdquo; consciousness. The problems of philosophical, history related to the evolution of this type of consciousness and actualized in this novel, remain important for modern literature. Another version of this philosophical collision is given in Victor Pelevin&rsquo;s anti-utopian novel &ldquo;S.N.U.F.F.&rdquo;. In both of these cases, the situation of the underground person becomes a picture of a psychological and historical catastrophe. The negative development of the analyzed arithmetic formula in Russian literature of the 20th century encourages to look for another pole of tradition outside the &ldquo;main&rdquo; cultural domains. One of the variants of a moral escape from the trap of the &ldquo;underground consciousness&rdquo; can be found in the poetry of Alexander Bashlachev. The mythopoetical plot of the song &ldquo;Verka, Nadka, Lyubka&rdquo; is an exceptional variant of the development of the &ldquo;underground man&rdquo; topic. A starting point of the plot is just the formula &ldquo;twice two is four&rdquo;. The genre shift from lyricism to allegorical epic gives the poet an opportunity to reconstruct the Easter ideal of Russian culture, even if in a tragic and provocative form, close to the tradition of Russian foolishness for Christ.</p>

Целью статьи является описание проявлений игры слов в современном русском романе "S.N.U.F.F." В. Пелевина и анализ передачи этих проявлений в польском переводе. Сначала кратко рассматриваются теоретические вопросы, касающиеся игр слов. Главная часть содержит анализ интереснейших зафиксированных в романе примеров игры слов с пояснением, каким образом достигается игровой эффект. Далее приводятся соответствующие фрагменты польского перевода с описанием и оценкой решений переводчика. В конце статьи находятся итоги анализа всех проявлений игры слов в романе.

Abstract:
The dissertation considers the occasionalisms created by Victor Pelеvin in his dystopia novel «S.N.U.F.F.», their structure, mode of word-building is analyzed. It is proved that the occasional lexicon in the novel is characterized by semantic multilayered and multivariate interpretation. The presented thematic classification of proper names used in the novel shows that the creative dominant of the writer is a high level of play with the word, which requires an appropriate level of intelligence and erudition of the reader.
В магистерской диссертации рассматриваются окказионализмы, созданные Виктором Пелевином в его романе-антиутопии «S.N.U.F.F.», анализируется их структура и способы словообразования. Доказано, что окказиональная лексика в романе характеризуется смысловой многослойностью и многовариантностью толкования. Представленная тематическая классификация имен собственных, используемых в романе, показывает, что креативной доминантой писателя является высокий уровень игры со словом, который требует соответствующего уровня интеллекта и эрудиции читателя.
