Abstract:
Abstract. We suggest that the LBV mechanism is an essential step to “force” massive stars (M(ZAMS) ≥ 40M⊙) to finally enter the Wolf-Rayet (W-R) domain in the Hertzsprung-Russel diagram (HRD). Just as massive supergiants showincreasingvariability as theyapproachthe Humphreys-Davidson (H-D)instability limit (horizontally in the HRD diagram), so the W-R stars showdecreasingvariability as theyrecede fromthe H-D limit (at first horizontally into the WNL domain, then, with their high mass loss rates, plunging irreversably downwards as ever hotter, smaller and fainter, strong-line W-R stars). Among the W-R stars, the luminous WNL subtypes (especially WN8) are the most variable, probably as a consequence of blob ejection in the wind. The underlying mechanism which triggers this ejection is possibly related to wind instabilities and may thus be quite different from the source of variability in luminous supergiants or LBV’s in quiescence, where photospheric effects dominate.

Abstract:
Wallace became a full-time naturalist in 1848, the year when he and Bates set out on their journey to South America. Wallace was twenty-five at the time and over half of his life had been spent in various parts of Wales, the land of his birth. Commentators have tended to gloss over or ignore any formative influences from this early period of his life or even to dismiss them as non-existent. This is surprising as it was during the eight or so years in Wales leading up to 1848 that Wallace's interest in natural history emerged. ‘The importance of this early period in Wallace's life can scarcely be over-emphasized’ wrote Durant in his account of the development of the Wallace personality, but he omitted any specific reference to the significance of the early period in Wales. Those seeking a simple unitary cause for Wallace's conversion to natural history usually locate this in his visit to Leicester in 1844 and his meeting there with H. W. Bates. ‘The odyssey began … in 1844, in Leicester’ wrote Brooks, adding that ‘the more remote parts of … southern Wales had offered little reading material…’ This, and similar claims, are presumably founded primarily on Wallace's belief—expressed sixty years later—that it was at Leicester that he first familiarized himself with Malthus' Essay on the Principles of Population and Humboldt's Personal Narrative of Travels in South America. There is, however, evidence that Wallace was probably familiar with at least one of these books some time before his visit to Leicester and that it was during his period in southern Wales that his interest in natural history emerged and developed.

The research goal is to explore images of Poles in the experience of immigrant women from post-Soviet countries, as well as to understand the subjective sense of their well-being in the situation of migration. The basis of the analysis are data from long observation of social media, scientific publications, reports, blogs. I pay special attention to the view of Belarusian women living in Poland, also because of the small number of thematic scientific publications from the perspective of this social group. The characteristics of Poles that immigrants from Belarus, Ukraine and Russia consider to be typical are presented. Abstract:
Christie's and Sotheby's auction houses have adapted their way of working to a digitally progressive and globally expanding market, where the Internet, during the past two decades, has become an increasingly integral part of almost every aspect of current western culture.  This thesis examines and demonstrates how, and why, the two auction houses have adapted their work to be published through their digital and physical channels.  This thesis also examines and analyzes how Christie’s and Sotheby’s have customized their way of presenting their auction lots to potential costumers, and how they use technological innovations to visualize materiality.  Intermediate presentations of four auction lots, available through Christie's and Sotheby's Instagram accounts, websites and physical auction catalogs, are the main focus of this thesis.  The historical and contextual information, on an increasingly technologically innovative and digitally focused art and auction market, together with predominantly Roland Barthe’s semiotic theoretical framework regarding picture’s denoted and connoted messages, are being analyzed with Anne D’Alleva’s formal and contextual methodology for pictorial analysis.

Abstract:
L’obiettivo principale del presente elaborato è di presentare una proposta di sottotitolaggio in italiano per il film “E ora dove andiamo?” (ar. وهلأ لوين؟)

Abstract:
Proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in securitizing discourse of the USA and Russia: Role in the process of security policy formation of nuclear-armed states Abstract This master thesis deals with a political usage of securitization of weapons of mass destruction by presidents of the two most important nuclear powers - USA and Russian Federation. For this purpose, discursive analysis of speeches of both presidents during their first terms is performed, with a goal to identify and interpret the securitizational discourse. Result is the analysis of most common type of usage of WMD securitization for legitimization of foreign-political steps and goals of these states, and their comparison. Results of the analysis shows that in the case of the US, WMD securitization was being used mainly for legitimization of politics of active formation of international situation so it would fit the US interests. In the case of Russia on the other hand, analysed discourse was being used mainly for preservation of international status quo in as stable form as possible, due to priority of domestic situation. In both cases however, predominantly economical motivations for the use of analysed discourse can be argued.

Abstract:
The authors of the article analyze the view of the World-system of I. Wallerstein, the F. Fukuyama concept of the “end of history” and the W. Beck concept of globalization. The authors focus not only on the concept and essence of globalization, but also on the problem of opposition of modern nation states to globalization processes that negatively affect the statehood and culture of sovereign states. The process of globalization is objective, but the loss of the country's sovereignty threatens to destroy its original culture. The authors show that globalization also carries threats that must be neutralized if we want to survive as a country and as a people. These are threats associated with the widespread dissemination of Western values (Westernization), models of upbringing and education, with Western sanctions against Russia. The neoliberal reforms of the 90s brought our country to its knees. Over the past twenty years, something has been corrected. The authors show that in the current situation it is necessary to make efforts to ensure the sovereignty and defense of the country, its economic growth and protection of the original values of our civilization.

Abstract:
In this publication the author analyzes the interpretations of the events of the Ukrainian- Polish-Russian war in 1920 by its participants. The Polish direction of Russian-Bolshevik propaganda in this war is also being explored. Sources of the study – a collection of Ukrainian agitation editions and Russian-Bolshevik leaflets published in Polish. These editions are stored in the Vernadsky National Libraryʼs Department of Old Books (Viddil starodrukiv Nacionalnoji biblioteky imeni V. Vernadsʼkoho). The Bolshevik propaganda involved the creation of a new social consciousness in which the world of good and evil changed places, and the policy of Russian-Bolshevik expansion was presented as the liberation of peoples. The propaganda methods used by Soviet Russia involved the manipulation of consciousness not only through the traditional means of misinformation, inciting controversy, destroying the enemy's reputation, but also special techniques, which are defined as the methods of the overturned pyramid, absolute clarity, and the formation of controlled cognitive choice. Keywords: Ukrainian-Polish-Russian war, UNR Army, Polish Commonwealth Army, Red Army, Russian-Bolshevik propaganda, propaganda methods, manipulation of consciousness.

Abstract:
The article deals with the problem of utilizing steelmaking slag from the production of rapid hardening composition in Izhstal, CJSC (Izhevsk, Russia), determining its physical and mechanical characteristics, and applying its properties for renovation and reconstruction. The physical and mechanical characteristics of the developed mortar exceed the existing analogues in many parameters (setting speed, strength). Dry mortar has a short setting time (the end of setting occurs 3,5 minutes after mixing with water at W/S = 0,3), its strength being 66,8 MPa after 28 days of normal hardening. The results show this mortar can be used for emergency renovation work to stop leaks in concrete, stone and brick structures. The studies were conducted using the methods of physical and chemical study of the structure and properties of the produced composition. The developed composition helps reduce the environmental pressure in places of electric steelmaking slag dump.

Abstract:
The local heat flux measurements are limited by low working temperature of the gradient heat flux sensors (GHFS) [1–3]. The novel heterogeneous sensors (HGHFS) made from metal-metal or metal-semiconductor layered composites (so-called anisotropic thermoelements) have high temperature level of 1300 K and more. Theory of the HGHFS allows to choose thickness and angle of inclination for the layers of composite, and to forecast volt-watt sensitivity. The sensitivity of metal-metal sensors is typically on the order of 0.02 to 0.5 mV/W, and it is much beyond when semiconductors are used. HGHFS are used for a first time for heat flux measurements in the furnace of the industrial boiler which is in operating of the Thermal Power Plant (fossil fuel power plant) in the city of Kirov (Russia). The local heat flux at the surface of refractory-faced water wall is measured in different regimes of operating. It is also shown that HGHFS may be used as indicator of furnace slugging. Small sizes (minimally 2×2×0.1 mm) and high working temperature of the HGHFS are useful for heat transfer investigations.

Abstract:
Abstract Although realistic complex structures are usually difficult to model theoretically, fuzzy structure theory enables one to produce such a model without a detailed knowledge of the entire structure. Using the theory established by Pierce et al. [A. D. Pierce, V. W. Sparrow, and D. A. Russell, J. Vib. Acoust. (to be published), also ASME 93-WA/NCA-17.] regarding fundamental structural-acoustic idealizations for structures with imprecisely known or fuzzy internals, the effects that fuzzy attachments have on different wave types in a primary (or master) structure are examined in this paper. In the theory by Pierce et al., the primary structure that undergoes vibrations is a thin plate mounted in an infinite baffle. On one side of the plate are fuzzy attachments, represented as an array of attached mass-spring-dashpot systems, which are excited by an incident plane pulse. This known theory explains the effects of these attachments on bending waves in the plate. In this paper, the theory is extended to isolated compressional and shear waves in a plate. While studying this new problem, it is discovered that coupling effects occur when the plate and attachment properties are not uniform in the direction perpendicular to the wave propagation. Hence, unlike the bending wave theory which models a finite thin plate with point attached oscillators, the new wave type theory uses a thin plate infinite in one direction with line attached oscillators also infinite in the same direction. For both the compressional and shear waves, it is found that the fuzzy attachments add an apparent frequency dependent mass and damping to the plate. These results are similar to those for the bending wave theory.

Though urban morphology has typically addressed studies of form in cities, with emphasis on historical cases, diachronic comparative studies are still relatively rare, especially those based on quantitative analysis. As a result, we are still far from laying the ground for a comprehensive understanding of the urban form’s model of change. However, developing such understanding is extremely relevant as the cross-scale interlink between the spatial and social-economic dynamics in cities are increasingly recognized to play a major role in the complex functioning of urban systems and quality of life. We study the urban form of San Pedro de Ate, an informal settlement in Lima, Peru, along its entire cycle of development over the last seventy years. Our study, conducted through a four-months on-site field research, is based on the idea that informal settlements would change according to patterns similar to those of pre-modern cities, though at a much faster pace of growth, yet giving the opportunity to observe the evolution of an urban organism in a limited time span. To do so we first digitalize aerial photographs of five different time periods (from 1944 to 2013), to then conduct a typo-morphological analysis at five scales: a) unit, b) building, c) plot, d) block, and e) settlement (comprehensive of public spaces and street network). We identify and classify patterns of change in the settlement’s urban structure using recognised literature on pre-modern cities, thus supporting our original hypothesis. We then suggest a unitary model of analysis that we name Temporal Settlement Matrix (TSM). Reference List Caniggia, G., & Maffei, G. L. (2008). Lettura dell’edilizia di base (Vol. 215).
